Do what you did when you were 13 - stuff a sock in it! :rotfl:
Grace,
Thanks for the tip! Works like a charm. I used DH's socks as padding.
I'll be calling him Happy Feet all week! :rotfl2:

Last cruise my family was given a tour of the bridge by the Captain. I thought I would share some pictures. Enjoy!

Bridge Wing Starboard. This is one of the two wings that extends over the ship. The Captain stands on it to guide the ship into port.

The Big Guy's Chair. Yes, I did try it out.

Looking out to Sea. Everything looks so far away.

Steering Wheel. It was so small I was surprised.

Mission Control. Fins were out, we were told not to touch anything!

10 Decks Above the Ocean. This was awesome. Glass floor looking down.

Glad I could help :) Don't forget to use fastpass and look at the fastpass when you get it to see when you can get another. A lot of times it is before you actually can use the fastpass. And atleast in the past you can use your fastpass AFTER the stated times on the ticket. Have fun!!!

OK, I've been "thinking" about packing, but...
We don't leave until the 27th...with the two DDs, and the need to do laundry almost daily, I'm thinking our packing will be done on the 26th:scared1:.
Between now and then there are like "a million" things to do (School Orientation, Shopping, house cleaning, lawn care, work).
I feel so insufficient...

Don't worry about it!!!! We leave here on Fri afternoon and will do the bulk of the packing on Thursday.... I would like to get it done earlier, but I just can't. I'll pack our toilitries on Fri Morn after everyone is dressed for the wedding..... I just hope I"m leaving myself enough time. I keep reminding myself we'll be in FL for a week before the cruise, so if I've forogtten anything, I can pick it up there!!!! My biggest fear now is forgetting my FE stuff....

Two quick questions for you veteran Disney cruisers:
1.) Are the "cribs" in the rooms Pack-n-Plays? If so, do they have the top part for small babies to sleep in or is it just open like a playpen?
2.) Are there beach umbrellas on Castaway Cay? If so, are they permanent or do you rent them?
Thanks for the info so far...its really helped a lot :cheer2:

I have not actually seen one but from all the pics I have found the answer is yes

and a DCL rep told me it was a portable crib, then added it is a pack n play

The umbrellas are there when you arrive. There aren't enough for everyone, but if you get off the ship promptly, you'll probably be able to find one. And it's not like Hawaii, where you have to pay a zillion dollars a day to find some shade. They were free in Feb. so I'm assuming they still are. :)

My Geek Confession of the Day: I just got a new camera in the mail today and as I scrolled thru the settings it has I thought about how each one will be used on the cruise. "Fireworks setting? Pirates party of course. Party setting? Will come in handy at Rockin' Bar D. What? OMG! It has a food setting?? Now I have to document every meal for the TR I'm thinking of doing!" Yes... I squeed at a food setting on a camera. Quite loudly in fact.
I haven't even finished packing for the two-day trip I'm taking to New Hampshire tomorrow (departure time 5am) Well, the problem is I have a beer after every item I put in the bag. I'm up to 5. Woo hoo! :woohoo:

Hi everyone! I know I am joining pretty late in the game. Just found this thread and read MOST of the posts. We are first time cruisers. Me 45, DH 46, DD 8.
I booked Palo Sunday (only date left). Does this mean we dress formal or is that just for regular rotation? DH is afraid he will be overdressed in a tux! Looking forward to meeting all of you! DD is nervous about not knowing anyone. Happy packing!

Those pack n' plays do not have the bassinet insert for little babies. Just open like a playpen.

Thanks for telling us about the spa openings! I just booked a couples massage on Friday evening... what a way to end the vacation.
And yes, after driving 1500 miles locked in a car with DH and DD... yea... I could be a little stressed :scared1:
But actually hanging out at my MILs should be great- we get along really well. (My FIL is another story :confused3) They may even watch DD one night so we can hit Icebar- it's a place in Orlando that we saw on the travel channel-- the whole bar is like a walk in freezer set at 32 degrees- beer is served in ice mugs, vodka in ice shot glasses.
Say... does anyone have the times that we leave the different ports handy?

That's it - I have one in Ocean Quest and my recollection from our NYE cruise is that you go with them the first day and sign something at the entrance to OQ and then they are good to go for the rest of the week . . . but nothing to do in advance or at the port.

Got DD all packed. Amazing she kept it to 1 suitcase with room for my clothes as well. I have to double up into her suitcase as DH will have some of his clothes in the bag with the formal stuff that the girls don't know about. I'm getting just a little stressed about picking up DDBF formal clothes and passport without her knowing. I also have to get the forms notorized before we leave as well. We are trying to keep the luggage to 1 per person and I am stuffing the FE's, their B-day gifts, surprise gifts into each. I'm going to have to take the luggage over to Fedex and have them weigh them early next week so if I am over the weight I can adjust them. If I pull this surprise off I will go down in history (with this family) that it was the best kept secret ever.
Now if I can just get DD to finish her reading project before Saturday. She has to get it done or she will be dragging it along with us. She tried out for High School cheer (made Varsity), and has All-Star cheerleading practices doubled up with camps and choreography. With all the extra cheer practices she will need the break.:cheer2:

We're driving from Delaware next Wed. Going to stop on the trip down just North of Savannah to give DH a break, he usually does all the driving, and usually drives straight through, but then he gets grumpy. Definitely don't want a grumpy dh on my vacation!!! My opinion is I have to pack all by myself, so he gets to drive all by himself.;) It should only take us about 14 1/2 to 15 hours total depending on if we hit any traffic. Unfortunately, it only takes about 10 mins for the boys to start arguing over something, so it will be a long 2 days. We figure we'll be poolside at the Radisson, with beers in hand, no later than 2pm on Thursday, with time for a swim before we watch the Wonder set sail later.

This is not the FE LIST, if you do ont want your name on this list, please pm me and I will remove it. It was just easier to cut and paste our current list. To see Final FE List, click on link in my signature below
This is a new list of people on our board that are getting together for the meet. Now others that are not participating in the FE can have their families listed here so we can all get to know one another before our trip. This is going to be known as the DISFRIENDS LIST. If you plan on coming to our meet it is by the Goofy Pool 3pm on Sail Day. If you would like to be added to this list, please pm me your info and I will be happy to add you to our list!
If you would like to get a rubber bracelet, Cigy7 is has some left, you can pick them up at the meet. You do not need to buy the bracelets to be part of the group, if you do want the bracelets, you must pm Cigy7 to order them. I believe they will be around $1.25 each, they are just a way to recognize our fellow disboarders at a glance while onboard.

Joining in late -- we booked our very 1st Disney Cruise about 2 mo ago, just discovered this forum today. Plan to skim through for tips, suggestions, and experiences from previous cruisers.
Our family is

DH 53
DS 7
We're flying down to Orlando from Wash., DC (live in the VA 'burbs) on 8/29 a.m.
We'd like to know more about things for our son, but we're especially interested in things that the 2 of us can do while he spends most of the day at the club. Also, recommendations abt which days/nights are best to do what.
We're doing shore excursions on 2 of the stops, but don't have anything planned for Castaway.
We'll have dinner at Palo on Sunday night.
Lots of stuff was already booked, natch, but we know we'll have a great time doing anything else that's available.
Do you make reservations or just line up for the shows?
Hope to meet some of you while we're on board.

Can you recommend a car service to take us to the port and back? I did call Happy Limo but didn't like the attitude from one of the representative, so I'm looking for another car service.
Thanks for all your help!!

Welcome aboard! No reservations required for shows, and there are plenty of seats as well. If your son will stay with the club on Castaway Cay for at least a few hours, I recommend you and your husband go to Serenity Bay, the adult beach - it's lovely. Check out your navigator when you board the ship and look at some of the adult-oriented things they list - often there are wine and beer tastings, cooking programs, tours of parts of the ship, etc. You also might want to book something in the spa for the two of you. I'm sure all three of you will have a wonderful time!:cool1:

I used Happy Limo last time, got Robert for a driver, and was very happy. However, you could also try another service that I believe I can't post the name of but I will PM to you - I used them in the past with no problems.

If you log onto your reservation at disneycruiseline.com (you need your reservation number and the date of birth of the primary person on the reservation) you should be able to pull up your information, including your cabin number. If it says GTY then it will be assigned at some point before you get to the terminal; otherwise, you will see the actual cabin number - the first number tells you the deck number.
Don't worry about the double posting!:goodvibes

JrZoeLeahMom - We are using Happy Limo too and used them in the past as well as just last week and had a great experience each time. We've also used Tiffany and like them as well, it was just that Happy Limo was mildly cheaper for the WDW-Port-Airport-WDW routes we've been doing recently (sharing the van with another family, hence going to the airport then WDW).

The problem is, Albany Int'l Airport (what a joke) doesn't store equipment overnight. In plain english, planes can't park there. They have to be flown in each morning because the place is too small. Our plane comes from the SWA hub in BWI. My buddy does p.r. for the airport, lucky for me he'll call me the night before with an update.
UGH!!! I just want to get out of New York!! I've been looking forward to this vacation for 11 months. Give a girl a break we've had a tough year. :)

Your flight might be late, due to them having to fly westerly, but you'll get out. The only thing that would cause you a problem is that it changes course and hits BWI.

So it looks like Bill will be far enough out to sea and/or north not to affect our cruise. There is nothing BEHIND Bill yet to worry about, right??? It looks good to me, hoping I am right ;)

It was suggested to me that I ask about putting my youngest DS in the 5-7 year old group in the club so he could be with my other DS (6) but he is JUST 4 (as in today) so I am hesitant to ask. He HATED flounders at 2.5, and I really want him to have a good experience, not to mention some alone adult time! He doesn't like new places (adopted 2 years ago at 25 months) but will go anywhere with his brother. What do you think? He has had a year of preschool.

Here's the latest image from the NHC. Bill is crazy big!!! Thank God he's staying away from land.
Look behind Bill and what do you see??? N.O.T.H.I.N.G
Like I said before, when a storm of Bill's strength moves through the water it makes it difficult for another system to form behind it.
Let's hope it stays that way. It takes two weeks for a storm to develop. I would NOT sound the all clear until Friday the 21st.

It's looking good for the Baker family this morning.
I got 98% of our packing done last night. DH is proud of me, we've never been this prepared before.
I did sit down and check all our documents, good thing, our Magical Express tickets and tags were wrong. Disney was great and fixed everything over the phone!
I also managed to get an early flight, non-stop going home and saved a few bucks! We'll get to fly back with gottolovedisney's family. The kids will love that!
Still so much to do... bank, post office, pay bills! Tonight I'm taking my Mom to the American Idol concert, I got her back stage passes to meet the singers. She loves that show! Tomorrow a relaxing morning at the spa, just what Mommy needs.
Enjoy your day!

I would absolutely sign him in there for the first day and just explain the situation to the staff. If it doesn't work out, you can switch later (we moved my DD out of the younger club last time so she could be with a friend and it was very easy). Good luck!:)

Fingers crossed that you are right:cool1::cool1::cool1:

Backstage passes- how cool is that!! My kids are super jealous!

Actually, I think I would ask for the 6yo to be in the younger group if you don't think he'd mind. If your just turned 4yo doesn't like new places much, and didn't like Flounders last cruise, he might be more comfortable around his own age kids, with his brother there as well. I say this only because last year we cruised with my SIL and her kids were 7yo and turned 5yo on the trip. The 5yo is very shy and would only go to the clubs if his sister went (even though my daughter, his cousin, was there), but didn't really like the 5-7 group because there were a lot of older kids that sort of intimidated him and the activities were a little above his interest level as well. He was in pre-k at the time, so his class at school was mostly 4yos/young 5yos, so I guess that's why he liked the 3-4 group better. His sister just moved down to the 3-4 group often (she was 7yo) and she was fine with it for the most part.

Okay people getting down to the 11th hour with the bracelets. Any one who is anyone will have one or maybe even 2 on. I still have plenty left of both sizes. There was a mix up with the order so I did end up with more adult sizes then I thought. The price is currently at a whooping 1.05 per bracelet. The more we sell the cheaper they get. Spend some of your vacation money early . Best bargain on the ship. Be Cool :cool1::cool1:

I don't know if you can do that. I just took the postcard off the fridge we sent to ourselves last cruise. Yup, I put all kinds of junk on my fridge!
It has 3 Bahamas stamps, 2 for .20 cents, 1 for .10 cents. Did I mention it takes weeks to get the card?!

Like TVEPFOX said, you need Bahamian stamps, so unless you happen to have some on hand, you'll have to wait in line there. If you don't want to wait in line, trek back there mid-day, there's usually no one around then.

I'm not sure how many days you have to do it in advance, but I'm pretty sure that once you get on the ship it is too late (they already have the tickets in your room and have charged them to your account). I would call or go online now and cancel what you don't need.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, we should frame this one. It looks fantastic for us. Yes, there are two very, very small floaters that just blew off the coast of Africa, but they shouldn't amount to anything. It takes 2 weeks for a system to reach the Bahamas, and two weeks from today we'll be slipping cool drinks on CC with our toes in the warm sand.
My family has always cruised this time of year. DH and I have sat up nights watching the wx channel, reading maps and praying for smooth seas. We've been very lucky over the years, only a few curve balls. I'm so happy to say it looks like the God's of the sea are smiling on us again this year. Yipe!
We've got some weather to deal with here in the Northeast for the next few days thanks to Hurricane Bill. Hopefully it will be wheels up for the Baker's Sunday morning. DH, works for FOX Newschannel, he was called yesterday for hurricane duty until Saturday night. He's not a happy camper, but it's his job.
This will be my last weather post unless something unexpected pops up.
Have a great day. We're almost there friends!
Edit: I'm such a sap. When my post went up I saw my countdown clock on 2 days. My eyes filled up with tears!

We made it to FL! I am at my parents near Orlando, so I will have internet until Next Sat morning :) It was an adventurous day getting here. Allegiant Air. Airport is 1 hour from our house, left at 10am. Got on plane at 12:40 for a 1:10 flight, smooth sailing I thought. No way! We sat and sat, they said we needed more fuel. Then we had to get OFF the plane, because, get this. The plane then had TO MUCH FUEL. They had to take a flight to get rid of some fuel, yes that is right. And they had to take some bags off and then fly around and come back for us. We finally got to FL at 6:40, waited forever for our bags, got to my parents at 8pm (after a stop at McDs where they were out of everything). But we are here, it is HOT and HUMID. Already went swimming.
Hopefully everyone gets here soon too. I am so glad the weather is looking good for us :) :) :)

Well, the game plan is to leave at 5am in the morning. Papa and Spencer are in bed but I'm sure I won't be getting there tonight. Most of the car has been packed but I have the electronics charging, checking this thread, and all the last minute things that need to be done.
Everyone have a safe trip and see you on Deck 9 at 3 pm on the 29th.

We're meeting on deck 9, port by the Goofy pool.
That's the left side of the ship facing forward.
I know it's confusing because the right side of the ship is docked at the port.
Here's how I remember it: starboard is on the right hand, port is on the left hand, if I tried to drink a glass of port with my left hand I would spill it on myself.
Wait for it...wait for it... Cigy7 will make some kind of joke!

Oh no! I hope that doesn't last too long! Good luck! I'll do the anti-thunderstorms dance so they will go away! :cool1:
This is the exact time I start to wonder if I messed up by booking same-day flights. What if we miss the sailing due to delays!? I won't be calm from this day forward til I'm actually on the boat. In fact that's why I have my count down timer to 5 pm on the 29th: Once that horn blows, THEN nothing can go wrong!!
Also I have nothing packed, but I have lists of what I need. I have the majority of the FE gifts but I can't put them together yet because I'm afraid they will take up too much room. So they will have to be put together onboard. In happier news I have made my FE (first time ever and with a lot of mistakes, but it's an official FE, and I will drink to it proudly! A lot. Because the drunkeness keeps the mistakes out of focus...)
Also in great news my hubby has arranged someone to come in and clean my house while we are gone so all I have to do is straighten up. That frees up more time for drinking. er, I mean packing. Oh hell, packing while drinking. :drinking1

We are going to the parks tomorrow for the first time. I'm hoping the crowds will be down from this weekend because school starts in Orlando tomorrow:thumbsup2
Not sure where we will go but we want to go early. The rain has been coming in the afternoons.

Since TVEPFOX is now in Vacation Mode, we agreed that I would attempt to fill her shoes while she is incommunicado...
Here is the map...
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo/two_atl.gif (http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo/two_atl.gif)
Here is the close up of the new Low Pressure system...
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo/atl1.gif
The system is about 350 miles east of the Windward Islands, and not very organized. It is moving West-Northwest at 20-25 MPH. At this rate, it will be over the Windward Island in 14-18 hours.
At the rate it's moving, it should be over and past our ports-of-call before we are scheduled to be there, so we should not have any issues making our ports. And there is nothing developing behind it, so once this has moved, we should be in the clear!
Depending on how the system develops and if it keeps it's current pace, we "could" experience some rain and some waves, but at this time, there is a only a very small chance this will develop into anything beyond some rain and thunderstorms. It most likely will be moving West of us as we are heading out to sea.
Anyway, I'll keep an eye on it, in the event there is anyone left here still interested.
See you all soon! :wave2:

:drinking1
We're also flying down 8/29 a.m. from Wash. DC (Dulles) -- also keeping our fingers crossed that there are no delays. We booked our flights and ground transportation thru Disney, so we hope that will give us a little more "wiggle room" if there's a moderate delay. We won't even think about there being a significant delay that would prevent our reaching the Magic before she weighs anchor!
This is our first cruise -- ever -- and we're very excited, especially our 7 yo son. He's in soccer camp this week, so he'll have some distraction to make the days go faster.
Our housecleaners are coming to our house today, so once we're home this evening, we can haul out the suitcases and commence packing!
Hope everyone has a splendid week whether you're already at "the World," in transit, or working your way down the packing list like us.
Look forward to meeting some of you and having the time of our lives during the cruise!

We're in New Port Richey FL at brother and sister in-laws, arrived Saturday afternoon..we survived the 15 1/2 hour drive from PA with very little drama - it was a smooth trip! Sitting poolside with the kids ..life is good! Although, their air conditioning just broke here :faint:..might need to sleep in the pool float tonight:woohoo:

Can finally say everything is packed and ready to go! Need to drop dog to my girlfriend tomorrow, then boys have soccer practice and boyscouts are climbing at the rock wall. DH gets to pack the car, while mom plays taxi driver. We are planning on leaving 9am on Wed morning and will not have access to a computer after that. We are spending the night north of Savannah, then on to the Radisson on Thursday. We still haven't decided between Grills or Fishlips for dinner. Fishlips seems to have a larger selection, but Grills seems to be the place more people go. According to Shirley's thread, if you show your hotel room key you get a discount on dinner at either one, for those of you going that night. They said to be there no later than 4:15 if you want to get a good seat to see the ships going out. We are planning on telling the boys at dinner that night as the Wonder sails past that they will be on the Magic on Saturday! Can't wait to see their expressions, and can't believe I haven't slipped and told them yet.

Well, things to change over time...
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo/two_atl.gif
As you can see, these "unorganized showers and thunderstorms" are now a little more organized and is now moved up to an "Orange" level.
What does this mean for us...well, probably not too much. Again, this cell is moving West-Northwest at 20-25 MPH, and still is a few hundred miles east of the Leeward Islands.
National Hurricane Center is showing an increased risk of this intensifying, but still less than 50%.
It still looks as if this would be well to the West of our ports by the time we sail.

The sun is setting on day two.
We spent the day at MK. OMG is it hot! DD did the pirate league, worth every penny. She loved it. Being a boat ride away from MK is priceless! We come and go as we please.
Crowd.levels are moderate. Wait times about 20 to 30 minutes.
I can't say enough good things about our hotel and concierge service. Everytime we walk into our room there's a surprise for DD.
MN GREAT, GREAT job on the weather! I think your right on the mark. Damn code orange!
One funny story before Wishes. We're getting ready this morning. DH can't find his socks! I'm plowing through six suitcases looking for them on my hands and knees in a panic! I found them in the last bag STUFFED inside my bras!!! LOL!
Tomorrow is AK and MK!
Good Night!

It looks like there is still availability Monday at 10:30 and Thursday at 11:30 if anyone is interested. There are dinner reservations available now too.

Nothing has changed much since this afternoon.
The area of concern remains pretty disorganized. It has not moved much, and is still about 300 miles east of the Leeward Islands.
NHC still says the system is moving West-Northwest at about 25 MPH. At this point, it looks as if the system will pass to the north of both St. Maarten and St. Thomas, regardless of if it develops into something more that just thunderstorms.
I think we should have a better picture by this time tomorrow.
Overall, predictions are still under 50% of this developing into something.

Hello everyone,
I'm checking in partly because I am tryiing to stay awake for the 1:36 a.m. launch of the Space Shuttle:scared1:
I'm in Kissimmee but was told by my timeshare staff that I will have no problem viewing the launch from my room.
I promised the kids that I will wake them up in enough time to view the launch.
On another note we went to AK today and I rode on the Expedition Everest:confused3 I think that's what it's called. It was very fun:thumbsup2
The park had a lot of people but I have seen the crowds much bigger. The Festival of the Lion King show was not full to give you an indication.
Tomorrow we may do Epcot or MK depending on what time the kids get up and get going.
Well that's all for now. Have a great night!

Tomorrow begins that actually packing, I think I have it all now, even got a new dress today. :rolleyes1 The one thing I wanted to find that I haven't is that collapsable cooler so I can roll on some fun stuff for DH and myself. Guess another trip out to look for it won't hurt anything right?! ;)

Thanks SO much for the weather updates MN! They're awesome! :cloud9: We're still here until Wednesday but guessing the people in Florida already would be really jealous if they knew where I was right now---work :rotfl2:
Hi Lark (neighbor)! We're in Leesburg..we're flying out of Dulles as well. We almost flew of BWI on SW b/c it was much cheaper but DH loves the proximity of Dulles to us.
I can't believe there's someone that's been on 3 Disney cruises B2B and now going on this one... It took us over a year to save up for this cruise..
We are so stoked...we packed the last of our pirate costumes last night. pirate: DH is so funny..he had to have every last detail of pirate garb (I guess he's hoping he'll look like Johnny Depp :rotfl:)

I'm with you, I was wondering were all you crazy Disney fans get your money to go over and over again. My money tree in the yard is not producing as fast as I would like.
Whats the deal with the collaspable cooler we guys talk about. What do they look like? Where do you buy them? Does Disney allow these coolers on board or do you pack them with your luggage?

Hi all...
Here is a GFS for about 48 hours from now:
http://moe.met.fsu.edu/tcgengifs/gfs/2009082506/slp8.png
So, based on this model, even if this does develop into something, the center of the activity remains to the east of our planned stops.
It looks in this model that the area is anticipated to be almost due East of Port Canaveral by Thursday.
So, while there is now a greater that 50% chance that this will develop into a cyclone, predictions are that it will continue it's current pace and direction and not impact us or our ports of call.
We will keep an eye open...

Usually tips are passed out the last night of the cruise, so you would just have to find another way to give your tips to the serving staff - other than that, Palo the last night sounds lovely.
Someone had posted recently what movies would be showing - I'm remembering Up, G Force, The Proposal, Hannah Montana movie, Race to Witch Mountain . . . but can't remember them all.

Hi Everyone,
Yes, this is our 3rd week now. We do get off the ship and have to hand in our declaration forms, we then get right back on. The crew is just as great as ever. We did run into a couple of problems and the crew was right there to help us out. I will explain when I meet everyone. I did learn a valuable lesson when doing a back to back.
I will be looking for everyone next week.
We are waiting for the last week to do all the shows that are not the speciality shows. We did a lot of hangin by the pool.
Water is smooth sailing, no waves to talk about. Hope next week is just as smooth.
Proposal, Nature Earth, Bolt (3d), UP (3d) are a few more to add to yourlist odf movies on the ship.
I see there are new selections on the menus. Yum! I have gained about 50 pounds!
There is plenty of construction at Castaway, but still beautiful. ( new ships )
See everyone very soon.

Where are you flying from?
Also, don't worry too much since things can change a lot in this many days -- the storm could slow down and not hit the northeast until Saturday late or even head east and not hit at all . . .
An early flight like yours is also less likely to be delayed as long as the plane made it there the night before - as the day goes on things get more complicated if there is bad weather.

Now to fill that! ;) I love that the weather is cooperating for our plans. Anyone have a rough idea of what post #'s were about the group getting off the boat plans? We haven't booked an excursion yet because we can't make up our mind. I am thinking just the beach and shopping will be perfect though. I was sure I read somewhere about the meeting place each day and the plans at hand.
