If you could add one country, or even a few countries to the World Showcase, which one would it be and why?

Isreal!

I swear when I was a kid (& Epcot was still being built up) we saw signs for this in the park that said it was coming, but it never ended up being built. :guilty:

I think that Isreal would have made a wonderful edition to the World Showcase-the decor would have been beautiful, great music, entertainment, food would have been fantastic!

and what about a Dead Sea mineral spa for a relaxing break while in the park?? :cloud9:

Poland.

My grandma left Poland in the 1940s and never went back. I think it would be kind of cool to take her to see a part of her homeland :)

Swaziland / Mozambique / Zambia - or any other Southern African Nation. Can't you seen a miniature Victoria Falls on the edge of the lagoon???

We were lucky to live in Mozambique for 5 1/2 years and travelled to these other nations several times - their craft, bright colourful artwork, and ingenious uses for what we'd call 'rubbish' (e.g. floor mats knitted from plastic shopping bags) would certainly offer something different to the Epcot experience. Given Africa has a prominent presence in AK I don't think it'll happen though.

So second vote would go to my 'home country' - Australia - but PLEASE not inside a miniature Uluru (Ayers Rock). I dare say there'd have to be a mini Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, but it'd be nice if the natural beauty of the country - the deserts, the rainforests, the mountains, the reef, and our indigenous culture was showcased too. As long as they don't serve Fosters beer - no self respecting Aussie drinks that stuff!!!

I would love to see Switcherland. And then Disney can build an updated, cool version of the Disneyland Matterhorn rollercoaster!

I think a coaster in World Showcase will bring far more crowds into that area of Epcot and really make the area a "must see". Currently, I bet many of the thrill-seeking crowd only stay in Future World riding TT/MS/or Soarin. Oh well - I know a coaster in World Showcase will never happen - but I can dream!

Don't take this the wrong way, but it is Switzerland. The Swiss tend to be precise about such things.

IHEARTNY

Well I am of the thrill seeking variety also but WS is my favorite area, and EPCOT my favorite park...

I do agree that it needs a headliner thrill ride but doesn't EE seem like an updated version of the Matterhorn, IMO.

Australia is where my vote goes. But if I could pick two, the other would either be Brazil or South Africa...

I guess I'm just looking for a little more variety, as much as I love Europe- I've seen enough European WS countries. I would like something different.

I vote again for Australia.
I also vote for Russia.
I know that the Outpost is supposed to have an African theme, but why not "Plus It?" I think Africa could have a cool ride like Pirates, indoor water ride. You could travel in different parts of the country through the different rooms like SE. One room could be a dessert theme, one could be a rainforest (with a hidden Tarzan or George), another could take you through the culture of Egypt, while another could take you through Kenya. There are many. But since AK has Africa, I don't see them spending much money here, but it would be nice to focus on more than the small spectrum of AK
And I would say a small exhibit on Antartica and the studies of the men and women that go there and their purposes.

You know when they had the Millenium Celebration and all the extra countries in that one building I really thought it was going to transform and make them realize we want more countries. I would love to see Israel so that we can visit it and feel safe!! But if I really had to choose I would probably vote for Australia or Greece.

Disney built AK instead of adding an African country to World Showcase, so don't expect Africa (or anything Asia for that matter beyond what is already there).

In fact, I wouldn't expect anything. Seems to me WS is done. Too much demand for thrill rides to spend millions on another "cultural" experience, even if the particular country's tourist authority contributes. Also, I bet the Epcot capital budget has a way to go, yet, before it has recovered from the Mission Space expenditures.

IHEARTNY

I'm not really sure that adding another country in representation at WDW is the reason for building AK  BUT I do see what you mean in that it's a reason for them to NOT build a country from Asia or Africa...

But they have enough to room to add at least three more countries though and I kind of wish they would!!!

Russia could serve cultural, historical and thrill-ical :rotfl2: needs all at the same time. With the interesting culture, the history from the czars to Cold War and after, and then the fact that roller coasters are descendants from "russian mountains" - ice slides created in the cold Russian winters as entertainment. Think of the possibilities!

India, Egypt and Brazil would be good, too.

WHAT IF???

What if there was a Swiss pavilion? Just a thought but Soarin' over California is cool for a future world ride like this but what if there was a Soarin' over the Swiss Alps, or just Alps in general? A Soarin'-eske ride for the WS?

--OR--

Let's say they were able to build two countries right next to each other for example Switzerland and Greece. They could have the coutries presented just like any other in the WS only there would be a ride starting in one of the countries say Switzerland, that takes you on a journey from the Alps to the Greek Isles and the end of the ride ends up in the Greece Pavillion...

I think something different like that would be pretty cool!

Here are my picks in order.

1. Greece
2. Austraila
3. Russia
4. Egypt
5. India

I think that Switerland is nice but that region is already represented by Norway. If you put in switerland than why not holland. I think you have to stick with what has the most atmosphere. Greece would be great, Austraila might be better suited to the AK. Russia with those onion domes would be something. The pyramids of Egypt wow. India I think of the taj mahal( even though it is not there anymore), sari's and that wonderful Indian food. If not for the world showcase then maybe one of these for a new themed resort hotel. One that catered to the moderate crowd that sleeps 5. The choices for people with more than 2 kids is limited.

Something from Asia - could that tie into Mulan?

I also thought I read somewhere about the idea to build an "Australia" in the middle of the lagoon. Kind of a neat idea (but what would happen to Illuminations?)

Egypt and Greece intrigue me also. However, I love the idea of the tropics - something in the caribbean or polynesian islands perhaps -- or does that get a redlight b/c of the hotels?

I remember seeing a video that the World Showcase is built based on if a country wants to contribute financially, historically and food wise. Alot of the countries mentioned did not, therefore they went with the countries you see today. I don't know how much that would change but I too would love to see Greece and Egypt just from the historical standpoints. Unfortunatley, I think Ireland is represented by Raglan Road.

Although, while I appreciate your vote for Scotland :cheer2: we are already represented as we are part of the UK, although we don't have a big presence (in the shop they sell shortbread and pringle jumpers I think). I agree there should be more men in kilts - my husband looks great in his!!!:lovestruc

Oh and I'm not being sarcastic or anything but just for your info Stonehenge is in England right down the very very south of the country. Although they do have a very similar version in Orkney (I think) so you were almost right!

Sorry to 'burst your bubble' but if they do Antartica, all you'll see are penguins & insects (maybe an occassional albatross). :confused3 Polar bears and Caribou are in the Arctic, Penguins in Antarctic. They'll just need to make sure there's a fair bit of land under the ice - if global warming goes to the extremes then the land mass under Antartica may just start to appear (but by then WDW will be under water anyway... )

No offense taken, but I'd assume an Aussie Pavillion would feature more of our indigenous culture than the 'mainstream'. But I would agree with you that we'd probably be a beter fit for AK. A walking trail through the different climatic regions of Oz, all populated with our native wildlife, finishing with an open plain full of kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, emus etc. Maybe they should go in partnership with Australia Zoo on it - and give the whole 'Croc Hunter' experience??? (r.i.p. Steve) Maybe that'd just be a bit OTT though! ;)

No you're not the only one - you just pretty much repeated what I said in my post above yours. ;)

As for there being too many European countries already, thats a shame you think that, especially given that Europe is a continent made up of a group of completely different and diverse nations whose countries would still have loads to offer World Showcase. For example, Greece is so different from the UK and Germany that it could just aswell be included instead of somewhere like Egypt. (Although I do personally think Egypt would be great!)

But anyway, enough of that. I think this is such a great post - can't wait to go back next month.

You seem very keen to correct everyone elses georgraphy so if I were you, I'd look up my own basic georgaphy. The UK actually consists of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. The official name of our country is the United Kingdoms of Great Britain hence the reason why we sometimes get called Britain aswell. You all have great ideas...but there are a few major factors that need to be present....

The big factor....can Disney market the pavilion??

Egypt/India - great architecture...Taj Mahal/Pyramids
Austraila -Sydney opera house
Russia -- St Petersburg Place/Red Square

another factor....food...It will need to have TS & CS
India
Greece
Austraila
These all have recognisable food/dishes

I believe that Egypt is similar to Morocco (not sure)

I know there are other factors too..

Wow! I thought I was pretty well-travelled and cultured - I've been to five different continents (lived on three of them) - but I have no idea what you just said.

I really had no idea how ignorant I was about Australian cuisine (you mean it isn't just like Outback Steakhouse?). Actually, I have heard of Vegemite sandwiches, thanks to Men At Work.

I wonder if the US perception of Aussie Cuisine is a bit like the Aussie perception of US cuisine??? Does this mean I should visit an Outback Steak House when we're in the states next?

OK to explain - Vegemite is a Vitamin B extract used as a sandwich spread (sparingly) - not sure if the states has anything like it, but the UK does have Marmite which is similar. Tim-tams are the yummiest chocolate coated biscuit you'll ever have - two rectangular light and crispy chocolate biscuits with a truffle-like filling between them, and the whole thing dipped in chocolate. Lamingtons (DH's favourite) are a light buttercake or sponge cake, cut into squares, then dipped into a thin chocolate icing (so it seeps into the cake just a little), and then rolled in coconut. Pavlova is like a meringue (made from egg whites and sugar), baked so it is about 2 inches thick, and served with whipped cream and (usually) fruit on top (e.g. passionfruit, sliced strawberries, or my favourite fresh diced mango mixed with passionfruit). HTH

Of course we'd also have to serve Anzac biscuits for a snack too!

Austrailia greece or Russia would be my choices. Put Austrailia in the middle of the lagoon would be great.:thumbsup2

Does the US have a cuisine? It's mostly food from other places. I guess you might say we have hamburgers, hotdogs, fried chicken and barbecue ribs.

I'd love to hear what an Aussie thinks of Outback Steakhouse. I assume there's nothing Aussie about it except for the menu items' names ("Victoria Filet," "Alice Springs Chicken," "Kookaburra Wings," "Walkabout Soup® O' The Day" - you get the picture) and the accent of the guy on their TV ads "No rules, just right."

I vote for Russia! There is a huge wave of Russian immigrants in the US--just come visit NYC if you doubt it. Mm grandparents were from Russia, and I have visited there twice. It would make an AMAZING Disney Experience!!

I think it should go to the highest bidder in either Oceania or South America. Neither area is represented at all right now.

My vote is for Ireland, but Disney may have to place that AWAY from the UK pavillion (don't want any "Troubles" in WDW)! :lmao:

Nothing against the UK, by the way. I have visited both the REAL UK and the pavillion at Epcot and both are wonderful.

I also second Greece and Egypt! :thumbsup2

I think it'd be cool to add an Island Nation out in the middle of the water! Russia and Egypt sound good too. I wish they would add some more to the showcase! We need more rides!!!
