Solo Cruisers

For those of us traveling solo or single parents or anyone who has a spouse that doesn't want to do Palo.

Let's link up for dinner one night. I don't know how to make it happen, but if anyone knows, can you tell me please? I'll also ask around. We might have to wait until we get on the ship. I don't think we can get the private dining room for dinner, but depending on interested maybe we can get 2 or 3 tables of 4??

Anyone interested please PM got2travel (http://www.disboards.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=74963)and she'll keep a list

Non-DCL Shore Excursions in Aruba (” http://thepiratezone.info/mambo/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=35&Itemid=48”), Puerto Vallarta (” http://thepiratezone.info/mambo/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=31&Itemid=51”) and Cartagena

WANT TO DINE WITH THE CAPT or the CREW?

Want to join other pirates for dinner? We are spearheading linking together a large group for Capt’s dining (Early) and for Crew dining (Late). I’m pretty sure we have enough people at Capt’s dining to even fill a whole dining room!!!How cool would that be.

Anyway, in order to accomplish all this….We need your help and some info.

First the easy part: (Your Info)

Note that this info stays with ONLY your PIRATE Dining Coordinator/Wench and ONLY gets shared with DCL Dining Reservations staff when we make our request.

I have volunteered to co-ordinate Capt’s Dining. If you are in capt’s dining, please send your info in an e-mail to me at goofyforlife @ yahoo.com

Cheryl has graciously volunteered to co-ordinate Crew Dining. If you are in crew dining, please send your info in an e-mail to her at micmsecheryl @ yahoo.com

If you are on a dining rotation and are on a wait list. Please let us know….. On previous cruises we were able to get people changed since they were with our group.
Send your info to the rotation you are currently on but let us Dining Wenches know where you are waitlisted to.

Please note that we will try our best to arrange pirates accordingly but be aware that the tables do rotate around the room each night. (ie you will always be near others in your dining station (ie same wait staff) but the next station over may differ from restaurant to restaurant) BUT WHO CARES WE’RE ALL A SCURVY BUNCH!!!!!

Please include the following info in your email:
Subject line : TOAL CAPT’S DINING REQUEST or TOAL CREW DINING REQUEST

DIS ID:
PARTY SIZE:
CABIN #: (if you are currently gty give us your ressie # and then let us know room # as soon as it is assigned.)
KIDS AGES:
Special Requests:
Want one large table or will two smaller tables work or maybe you want to dine alone.
Find people with kids the same age or are you looking for adults only conversations?
Waitlisted? For which sitting?

NOTE: If you have are co-ordinating for multiple cabins we need both cabin #’s (again only for DCL Dining). Also note that I do not believe we will be able to make requests for specific waitstaff or rotations.

DCL has not decided as of yet whether they will have one sitting for each time or the 3 sitting like currently on the Magic. We as a group will be asking for either 6pm for Capt’s Dining or 8pm for Crew Dining.

PS: WE CAN EVEN TAKE REQUESTS FOR CRASH'S GROUP OF 30 (you guys can have your own wait station.

As it was explained to me, the lock will occur when its about 250 pages, maybe a few before or maybe a few after.

The Mods do it manually, so when they catch it close, its locked.

Evening all! I see we are on to part 4.

Hear an interesting rumor today, while doing a GS cookie booth. The other mother I was with, her mom is a CM in WDW. She recently was promoted to another position, but was a character handler. They have been holding auditions for Tink!:tinker: I guess some women were coming out of the audition crying, because they wanted to be the first Tink. When Tink appears she will be located in Toon town in the main tent, where the princesses and other characters are! So here is the chance to meet and greet with Tink and get her autograph! Also got the scoop on Capt Jack. He doesn't sign autographs, because when they first tested it, his line was way too long! Also I guess there have been mixed reviews on the Pirate & Princess parties. DD and I will find out for ourselves on May 2nd, I got us tckets! Interesting what you can find out when working a cookie booth!

We have only seen him at the pirate tutorial. Of course on DCL and Castaway Cay he does. I thought it was interesting. You never know when you are going to bump into another Disney nut! They are also going to be in WDW when our district has a break from 4/28-5/2! DD may actually get to go on a roller coaster and Tower of Terror!

Good evening everyone!

So,I'm excited....my mother wants to surprise my dad (the original disney fanatic in the house) with a surprise weekend in June....wants me to come and she will cover (part of the surprise for dad!)....

We are thinking the Grand Floridian....always wanted to stay but not stay the length we usually do at WDW there..so a mini trip would be great!(this would also mean I have stayed at all MK resorts!)

I know this is our "TOAL cruise" thread but I am sure some of you had to have stayed here...any helpful hints? Also I have never noticed...do all the rooms have balconies? (mom loves them!)

I am soooooooo excited!

Have great night everyone!

Wristband Info

I know we had been talking about wristbands. Here is information on the company I used. I used wristbandconnection.com when I ordered wristbands for dd's school. I got the black/red (school colors) with printing on one side. I went with them because they seemed to be the only company who would give a price break for quantities under 1,000. 500 wristbands cost me $250.00 which is 50 cents each. Free shipping on orders over $50. They were very prompt. I don't know if it even took a week for the order to come. I ordered them last summer. The words were debossed or molded into the band. Sunken lettering. They have a cool font called "Bones"

I emailed them to ask about using own artwork and they will.

They also allow mixing sizes and colors as long as the text stays the same.

So here are the options based on ordering 500 wristbands.

1 Side Text Only-50 cents each
2 Side Text Only-54 cents each
1 Side Text & Pic-55 cents each
2 Side Text & Pic on front-59 cents each

Solve the following by the linear combination method.

3x-y=14
-3x+4y=-6

If I remember what the linear combination method is:

The 3X and -3X should cancel out, the -Y + 4Y would be 3Y, and 14-6+8, so you get the equation 3Y = 8, which means Y = 8/3.

Let me know if that's right.

See next post for the rest!

Then i finished the problem:

Substitute Y=8/3 back in the first equation

3X - 8/3 = 14

solve for X = 50/9

I plugged both answers back into both equations and got what I was supposed to, so I think it's right.

Wow Mike thanks for doing that!

It is exactly what I get & then when you plug in 8/3 & solve for X I get 5.5? But if you plug the numbers in to check your answer it doesn't come out even? :confused3

oops you beat me to it! yep that's exactly what I got & my mistake was trying to reduce that fraction. doh!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I owe you another drink! :flower3:

No problem. That was more fun than studying for my nuclear pharmacy midterm! Actually, I just finished a lab report, which was I happened to be on the laptop instead of studying.

And I think it's me that owes you a drink anyway.

So how's that thesis coming?

I know we have some math experts here so I was wondering if somebody can help DD & I. Her & I both get the same answer...which is wrong! :headache:

Solve the following by the linear combination method.

3x-y=14
-3x+4y=-6

I come up with

x=16.666666/3 which I finally figured equals 50/9
y=8/3

It does work. I wish I could figure out a better answer for 50/3 divided by 3 to give you a better fraction. But my brain isn't working that good right now!

My DD14 helped me as I was helping her with linear equations just a few days ago. Great team work!

PS Does this subscribe me to this thread now?

Thanks again everybody!!! :flower3:

Are you looking for DL souveniers (sp?) or something else? Three or four of the hotels along the strip from HoJos to the main entrance have small gift shops that have Disney merchandise, inlcuding HoJos itself. They have California themed merchandise too. If you have a car, Walmart is a 5-10 minute drive and has the usual Walmart Disney section.

Monica, I'm looking for a variety of stuff. The shops around WDW usually have items (t-shirts, mugs, key-chains, etc.) that are just Florida related as well as Disney stuff that is non-WDW but indicates "Florida" or "Orlando". I'm really looking for a variety of things that I can bring back as souvenirs (sp?) for family and friends without breaking the bank.

Chrissie

Hi Chrissie:yay:
DH and I stayed there last July for our anniversary weekend.
I ordered breakfast to be delivered the first morning and it was very nice to have that on our balcony overlooking the lake:cloud9:
We actually shared one breakfast order because Darren is not much of a breakfast eater. This worked fine for us because we had an early lunch ressie at the Coral Reef.
I've forgot the name of the building we were in but we were right near the pool too. It was nice to have the monorail so close by and to be able to toddle back to our room after Victoria and Alberts (too much good food:rolleyes1 ). We also were able to watch the electric parade of floats from our balcony Saturday night.
The rooms are nice, I'll try to post pics tomorrow:goodvibes

Just for reference, HoJo's is at 1380 S Harbor, the crosswalk to the entrance of DL is at 1544 S Harbor, and an easy walk continuing up Harbor without having to cross another street would end at 1650 S Harbor. I'm bad at estimating mileage, but I'd say 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile from one end to the other.

Have you ever wanted to learn the difference between Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc? Have you wondered whether the rule really is white with fish, red with beef? Does the term “shaken not stirred” mean anything to you other than James Bond :cool2: ? Are you just as confused as I am.....Barley, Hops, Pilsner, Lager, Stout.....:confused3 what does it all mean? “Lick, Slam, Suck” - no it's not x-rated http://www.nearlygood.com/smilies/nono1642.gif (http://www.nearlygood.com/) but do you know what it means?

Come join us for group tastings. We are working on arranging private tastings during our sea days. At this time we do not have specific details, but we are looking for a show of interest. We are requesting Wine, Beer, Tequila, Rum and Martini tastings. No, we will not be tasting all those at the same time. There will be separate sessions planned for each. And for those of you (like me http://www.nearlygood.com/smilies/drink.gif (http://www.nearlygood.com/)) who want to attend them all, they will be scheduled at different times. (And hopefully different days!) These will be exactly like the tastings that DCL regularly schedules, but will be limited to those folks in our group. Each tasting will cost $12-15 per person (subject to DCL's current rates).

If you are interested in signing up, please send an email to Laurie (MrsScooby) at mrsscoobie@yahoo.com (mrsscoobie@yahoo.com) -- take note, Scoobie is spelled differently in the email address. Please provide your Name, DISBoard Name, Tasting preference (or choose LUSH for all tastings :drinking1 ), and how many people for each tasting.

As we get more details we'll let you all know. We are hoping to have the schedule prior to boarding.

CARACAS, Venezuela - President Hugo Chavez ordered tanks and thousands of troops on Sunday to the border with Colombia, accusing it of pushing South America to the brink of war by killing a top rebel leader on Ecuadorean soil.

Ecuador's President Rafael Correa also ordered troops to the Colombian border, saying "Ecuadorean territory has been outraged and bombed by an air attack and the later incursion of (Colombian) troops."

On Saturday, Colombian security forces killed senior rebel leader Raul Reyes and 16 other Colombian guerrillas at a camp across the border in Ecuador.

Correa said on Saturday that Colombian President Alvaro Uribe had informed him of the raid, but later announced that he was misled after Ecuadorean officials inspected a bombed rebel camp.

Colombian officials have long complained that Ecuador's military does not control its sparsely populated border, allowing rebels to take refuge on its territory.

Colombia's government said late Sunday that documents found where Reyes was killed show that the rebel group was in close contact and was deepening relations with Ecuador's president.
Chavez said Venezuela will respond militarily if Colombia violates its border. He ordered Venezuela’s embassy in Bogota closed.

“Mr. Defense Minister, move 10 battalions to the border with Colombia for me, immediately — tank battalions. Deploy the air force,” Chavez said during his weekly TV and radio program. “We don’t want war, but we aren’t going to permit the U.S. empire, which is the master (of Colombia) ... to come divide us.”

Chavez called Colombian President Alvaro Uribe “a criminal,” and branded his government a “terrorist state,” likening it to Israel for its U.S.-backed attacks on militants.

Colombian officials have long complained that Ecuador’s military does not control its sparsely populated border, allowing rebels to take refuge on its territory. The same holds true for Venezuela, where rebel deserters say the guerrillas routinely rest, train, obtain medical care and smuggle drugs.

Chavez denies that his country provides refuge to the FARC.

In protest of Colombia’s raid, Ecuador recalled its ambassador from Bogota but said commercial ties would remain unaffected. A spokesman for Uribe, Cesar Mauricio Velasquez, announced Sunday that Colombia would apologize to Ecuador for the military incursion on its territory.

Ecuador’s president, Rafael Correa, said the rebels were “bombed and massacred as they slept, using precision technology.” He said Colombia’s military violated Ecuador’s airspace and that the camp bombed was 1.2 miles from the border.

Ecuadorean soldiers recovered the bodies of 15 rebels in their jungle camp, and found three wounded guerrillas.

Lt. Col. Jose Nunez told reporters in the remote village of Angostura, where the bodies were found, that officials determined there were two bomb attacks on the camp early Saturday.

Before the Ecuadoreans arrived, Colombian commandos removed the cadavers of Reyes and one other rebel.

Chavez called the raid “cowardly murder, all of it coldly calculated.”

'Could be the start of a war'
“This could be the start of a war in South America,” Chavez said. He warned Uribe: “If it occurs to you to do this in Venezuela, President Uribe, I’ll send some Sukhois” — Russian warplanes recently bought by Venezuela.

He called Uribe a “lapdog” of Washington, saying “Dracula’s fangs (are) are covered in blood.”

Neither Colombia’s foreign minister nor the country’s military leadership would comment on Chavez’s actions when asked by reporters on Sunday in Bogota as they departed a funeral for the lone Colombian soldier killed in Saturday’s raid.

Chavez has increasingly revealed his sympathies for the FARC. In January, Chavez asked that it be struck from lists of terrorist groups internationally.

His Sunday announcement pushes tense relations with Colombia to a new nadir, though cross-border trade, worth some $5 billion annually, has not yet been seriously affected.

It could not be determined whether troops had yet been mobilized for the border. Chavez did not specify how many he was sending. A Venezuelan battalion traditionally has roughly 600 soldiers.

The peasant-based FARC has been fighting Colombia’s government for more than four decades, seeking a more equitable distribution of wealth. It funds itself largely through the cocaine trade and kidnaps for ransom and political ends.

Tina, I have been wondering about you all. Hopefully after you get settled into your new home you can start following the dr.'s orders. I hope Chuck likes his new job. Sounds like you have a busy week ahead of you. Lots of exciting changes going on.:goodvibes

I won't complain about being busy because I am so THANKFUL that we got the house & Chuck got a job.:goodvibes As far as Doctor goes it might be too late for that.:rolleyes1 It's gonna be fun going through security with a metal pin through your toe. :rotfl2:

Speaking of which............My Airtran story............I already got our flights from Orlando to Chicago. They are a Non-Refund airline so the woman on the phone told me a dozen times.:rolleyes1

All I wanted to do was change my flight and I would pay the 30.00 difference. I wasn't even complaining about the 225.00 in cancel fees. They wanted to give me a credit for a future flight, good for one year and they charged me full price for my flight one way flight on March 10th.

What burns me is I cancelled my one flight and created the new flight at the same time because I wanted the adjusted difference. Airtran DOESN'T even fly to Myrtle Beach!!!! I have to fly into Charlston 2 hours away !!!

I finally got it straightened out after being on the phone for an hour and they finally talked with a supervisor. We still don't have flights to LA yet but good news is we decided to drive home from Orlando instead of flying so no dealing with the luggage issues!!!

Sorry so long, needed to vent, did. done and I am over it now.

Oh! Tom (31b),

Is it true that you will be playing the part of Gibbs on the TOAL?

If so, thanks, we really need a Gibbs.

Are you going to grow a set of mutton chops?

It is getting late and I did not have much time for this but could not resist.

OMG! I just read about this in a novel by Michael Crichton called Next . Really scary now that this is posted. The book was listed as fiction but with elements of truth, in it its got a flourescent turtle, an ape that speaks in 3 languages and a talking parrot. Other than that - pretty interesting reading. I have it on cd if anyone is interested. Must read for those with a scientific mind. A bit of fluff for the mind with a dose of humanity in it.

When my DS and BIL did a Panama Cruise a few years ago - they had a scheduled stop in Cartegena. It got changed to a sea day at the last minute due to the political climate. My BIL was really surprised that we had Cartegena as a Port call. I fully intend on us doing a history tour at this Port. Who knows if we'll get a chance to go again.

Drat!

I had been drafting a LONG multi-quote from the old thread... complete with pictures, chuckles and so on... and when I went to PREVIEW the posting it declared the thread had been CLOSED! And I lost everything I had been working on...

DRAT!

At any rate... to make a long multi-quote short - I'll just say thanks for all the kind remarks folks about Alicia being ... (ahem) ... easy on the eyes. I count myself lucky she stayed with me patiently for so long before I proposed. And at that... after hanging around 8 years I went ahead and failed to pop the question with any romance or preparation.

Aside from that... the last 3 days has seen Alicia visiting 8 local Macys' stores at leisure. Monica, you're right that most of the clearance racks were only an extra 30% off... however, there were some racks which had everything already 50% with an EXTRA 50% off for a total of 75% discount... and some racks were marked with 75% off and those had little signs on top declaring an additional 60% off for a total of 90% off.

Last nite at the party Alicia was chatting about her findings with some of the ladies and a couple of them abruptly ducked out of the LONG party to hit a couple local Macy's. Although Alicia found nothing herself at those 2 stores, she shopped with her girlfriends. One of which I know spent $70 getting mostly blouses at a total of 75% off... plus a cute button down sweater with metallic sparkles AND an astonishing imperial purple silk dress which Alicia found for her. Those last two were 90% off and the dress in particular was $12 reduced from $120. I don't recall what the sweaters' value was.

Since my first report on Alicia's shopping she's only added 3 blouses (90% off at $6, $7 and 25% off at $12.50)... and a couple pairs of shoes at 25% off for $20 and $30. Alicia was complaining today that everything was pretty well picked over now. However, she did pick up ONE of those shoes today. Plus she seemed really pleasant in demeanor from the days' wanderings.

It funds itself largely through the cocaine trade and kidnaps for ransom and political ends.:confused3

http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc319/predragpajdic/Orsonclapping.gif

Well...

I'd consider the FARC to be terrorists of the worst kind ... through thier pursuit of the cocaine trade which destroys lives and families all over the world indiscriminately.

Now... on the other hand ... all this posed above is NEWS to me. I won't pretend to be any kind of authority or otherwise possess any special understanding on the affairs of South America. So... if I am spouting off ignorantly... please remember .... I am forever the INNOCENT ONE here.

I think we are back to upside down here...back in Davy Jone's locker.

Lots of hockey this weekend. It was our league tournament for both kids. DS9's team made it to the championship game & played it close through 2 periods (down 2-1 at the end of the 2nd). Then got creamed 7-3. Oh well. It as a great season and 2nd place in the entire DC area isn't a bad thing! DS7's level doesn't keep score - so technically a jamboree, not a tournament, but he has 7 games this weekend. He got a hat trick in the last game!!!!

Hmmm, I love Tink, but I'm not sure I like the 'meet a real person Tink' idea. She's a fairy - much smaller than a small woman. During Wishes she is up in the air, so you can't tell size.

I hate waiting in line for characters, so we've never met Capt Jack. I didn't know he didn't sign. Interesting.

We went and saw Penelope yesterday. It was really cute and had a great message. I was only 90 minutes.

Thanks for doing this Tina! Since you did this for school, I assume there will be kid sizes???

Oops, didn't post sizes. They come in 6", 7" & 8". I bought the adult size the 8" and it is big on dd's wrist. I know we were talking about keeping an eye on the kids so we could get lime green for them! Kristina came up with the text I posted as an example of what could be put on them. Limited to 24 spaces on both sides. As long as the text stays the same , sizes and colors can be mixed and macthed and still get the pricing.

Chrissie

You would love the GF . . . we have been there 3 times, I think. I think all the rooms that are not on ground level have a balcony, except for some of the main lodge rooms. But if you book garden view you will get one of the non-lodge buildings and you could put in a request for a non-ground-level room.

Happy Monday everyone. That was a fast weekend. We did conduct dd's science experiment though. 5 oranges gave up their lives for science! Now to prod dd into writing it up and putting her science board together before this weekend. It's due on the 10th.

Sounds like an interesting project Tina. If Adam had a priject due the 10th, he would have started on it the 9th.

These will be great!

I agree! We were planning that too. We are looking forward to this as well for the history. If something did happen I would hope for another port - rather than another day at sea. Time will tell, I guess!

the conditions there right know just got me wondering what the options were, what might Disney do,etc - is this situation likely to be long term and affect us or to be short lived posturing??? ........."always prepared"!!!!...got to plan, you know!:) :wizard:

Thanks Diane,

I actually had alot of fun making it although my wife thinks I'm nuts!

Hi Roger, Hi Lorri!:)
Peter,
Your talent is AWEsome. I knew you would be into the details. I can't wait to see her in person.

Thanks,

My next project will be Norrington from the first movie. I haven't decided on which rank yet.

Captain of Commodore?

Oh, yes this will be played by Jack, FINCANTIERRI

Which should it be ladies? I think the Captain costume is more dashing.

Laura, just want to make sure that Mark (disneypilot) will not bea wearing the same. Neither Mark or I are doing POTC characters. I just have been so busy actually sewing for work that I am not planning on making costumes. I will probably have to just buy one already made. I wish I could afford the time and money to make some. I love details!!!

Tom, you do a brilliant job with the first post - Thank you.

You can always drive up Harbor to the Disney Outlet. I'll try to get specific directions and/or an address next time I go.

That bunny is just odd. Sounds like a book my DH would like. I'll have to check into it. Thanks! :thumbsup2

Congrats to DS for making it to the championship. Sorry they didn't win! Congrats to your other DS for the hat trick! :thumbsup2

Forgot about that one:
243 Orangefair Mall, Fullerton.

From Mousesavers.com
To get to Disney's Character Warehouse from Disneyland, go north on Harbor Blvd and cross Hwy 91. Make a right at Orangethorpe and another right at Pomona, which is a street that goes right into the Orangefair Marketplace shopping center. A Michael's store is right in front of you; drive toward it and then go left to get to the Character Warehouse, which is at the corner of the building.

Here's a coupon for 10% off http://www.thechamber.net/cgi-bin/foxweb.dll/wlx/dir/wlxcpn?ec=lbyklLsiprtbx4mpmc&ID=HNDgKiGb

Gald I found you!!! I still need to vent!!!!

My washing machine decides to die on Saturday. I went to Sears to buy a new washer with a new dryer to match. Since we only have four years left til we move to Florida... I decide to just go middle of the road price. It took me less than 5 minutes to pick out some. I want to get the 5 year warranty so if they break before I move...I am covered. It was free shipping and 15% discount on top of the sale price. The salesperson rang everything up and forgot to include my 10% discount for the home repair contract. He then proceeded to give me two credits. The rest of the money would come in the form of rebate checks.

I told DH if I buy a third appliance...I get 20% off. I went to but a new vacuum cleaner for $400 but the salesperson said it does not count!! He then told me I had to buy with a Sears CC in order to receive my discount of 15% and my free shipping.

I go back to my original salesperson but he went to lunch. I waited to speak to a store manager for 10 minutes. She apologized and said I could still get my 15% with my Disney Visa and she would just refund my shipping so I got a credit. At this time I have 4 receipts!!!

I thought everything was fine til I went home to enter my receipt to get my 15% cash rebate.:headache: I noticed the salesman put an order down for electric dryer which we never discussed. The gas dryer is $70 more than the electric which I knew about. He also ordered the gas kit to install the electric dryer I could not use.:sad2: I called back the salesperson(we were home by now) and he said it could not be changed over the phone. I said it was his fault and to get it done on the phone. I thought problem was solved again.:flower3:

Later in the evening I received a message from the salesperson stating the order will have to be rung up again and I must come back to the store. He told me that Sears Credit Cards can only be handled over the phone. The store was now closed.:rolleyes1

I called Disney Visa that night(store was closed) and they said the new charge was rejected as fraud as I earlier charged $1400 and now over $1500 was being charged 4 hours later!!! :scared1: It was over a $100 more than I authorized for the gas dryer difference. I got another call from Disney Visa card Sunday morning and was told Sears tried to put through another $100 charge too!!! They put a hold on my credit card til I could straighten out the mess.:confused3 By this time I lost my voice(lucky for Sears).

Too make an even longer story short....The manager from Sears was waiting for me by the door. They gave me the Gas dryer for the same price as the electric dryer $70 less, the salesperson under-charged me $100 for the service contract so they left the lower price. The installation should have been $70 instead of the $35 he charged. It took the store manager over 40 minutes to straigten it out!!! I guess I saved over an extra $200 but all the aggravation was not worth it.:headache: :headache:

Last night we decided after such a horrible weekend to go out to Sweet Tomatoes with some friends. There was no food out for over ten minutes. People were waiting and wating. John could not find me and looked over and saw me talking to the manager!!! He said "oh no here she goes again!" The food was like this almost our entire visit. It took us over two hours to finish eating because of lack of food. The manager came over and voided our receipt and appologized for such a bad experience. I think she should have voided everyone's receipt as we all had the same problems.

Lesson learned!!!! :goodvibes Next weekend I am not leaving the house.;) :rotfl::rotfl:

My Doctor will see me again on the 4th and I will have to find a foot Doctor down in SC where he will transfer records. He took alot of bone out and recovery is still looking like 5 months hopefully not in this BOOT !!!

Congrats on the new house. Enjoy the warmer climate. And take care of that foot!

I really like the idea of customizing our history and shopping tour, but I wonder if it really is best to just book a DCL excursion. Wonder what happens if we set something up with Mr. Emerald and the ship doesn't dock. :confused3

Hmmm, I love Tink, but I'm not sure I like the 'meet a real person Tink' idea. She's a fairy - much smaller than a small woman. During Wishes she is up in the air, so you can't tell size.

The plan is supposed to be for guests to "shrink" as they go through the queue. Not sure exactly how they plan on making that happen, but by the time you get to Tink, you're her size. Again, not sure how the get you back to normal size either.

Laurie had asked about using probiotics to help prevent or reduce the severity of traveler's diarrhea. I e-mailed one of my professors who teaches the natural products course to get some info.

Here is what I e-mailed her:

"I will be going on a cruise that will include some Mexican ports. Someone else on the cruise asked me about using probiotics to help prevent traveler's diarrhea. (We'll be eating while on an excursion in the jungle in Puerto Vallarta.) I tried to find out some info about it, but there's not a whole lot out there.

Do you know if this could help? I guess the theory is more good bacteria makes it harder for the bad bacteria to take hold and multiply. If it is worth taking, is there a particular strain or dosage that you would recommend? "

And here is her reply:

"Several things come to mind. First, the probiotics do
help and should help in this situation. You need LOTS of
bugs, though. I would go to GNC or some such place. They
usually have many formulations. Get a combination of
Lactobacillus acidophilus and some species of
Bifidobacterium. Get the product that has this combination
in the highest concentration. I would take two (tablets or
capsules) three times a day.
I would also do my best to minimize contact with water,
although you may not be able to stay away completely, given
that you are eating on land. Maybe you could take some
bottled water with you on the tour. "

I think we'll be trying this as well. I'll be sure to follow the manufacturer's dosing recommendations, and starting low and building up ahead of the trip.

Thanks so much Monica, Roger and Sara!

I go back to my orginal salesperson but he went to lunch. I waited to speak to a store manager for 10 minutes. She appologized and said I could still get my 15% with my Disney Visa and she would just refund my shipping so I got a credit. At this time I have 4 receipts!!!

I thought everything was fine til I went home to enter my receipt to get my 15% cash rebate.:headache: I noticed the saleman put an order down for electric dryer which we never discussed. The gas dryer is $70 more than the electric which I knew about. He also ordered the gas kit to install the electric dryer I could not use.:sad2: I called back the salesperson(we were home by now) and he said it could not be changed over the phone. I said it wall his fault and to get it done on the phone. I thought problem was solved again.:flower3:

Later in the evening I receive a message from the salesperson stating the order will have to be rung up again and I must come back to the store.

Well, Disney won't go - if it's not safe for the passengers and crew. However, I don't think we need to worry much - DCL will take care of making sure we're not bored.

Doubt we'll stop in Panama due to prebooking the canal transit. What other places are near Aruba that DCL might stop at?

Puerto Limon, Costa Rica? (http://cruises.about.com/cs/caribbeanports/a/puertolimon.htm)

I just happen to know someone who makes curtains. :confused3 I'm just saying....:confused3

Yes, but having to completely re-curtain every window in my house every three years precludes me from going the professional route. What you do is very much worth the price people pay...for most people who change curtains every 10-20-30 years.

I'm so looking forward to my forever house, when the curtain selection process consists of more than "Well, the color and style sort of go with the room and oh, look, $8 a panel!" Heck, Laura, maybe I'll fly you up to Alaska in 6 years and pay you to make my curtains!

Oh and the joy of buying furniture without a huge consideration being "Will it work in the next 4 houses?"

5 years, 2 months and 16 days...but who's counting???

I'll repost it over there. What section do you think it should be in?

Cheryl - I thought things like this only happen to me - but usually the manager doesn't greet me - they run from me. :rotfl2:

As for the free dinner part - the kids are always asking me if I'm going to get my dinner for free - I tell them its not about that - its about making certain the manager knows that the service they were selling didn't go over very well. If in saying this - I get fringe benefits, well then, that's a perk. I just want them to stick up for themselves............

hhhmmmmmm... maybe my plan is going awry - they tend to vent after we get home instead of during the dinner. Oh well, I see we will have to do this in baby steps. I guess that makes me an embarrassment to my kids - although that doesn't stop them from going out to dinner with us. So they are either cheap or fascinated by my actons. Probably a bit of both - more like wishful thinking on my part! :lmao:

I know this was mentioned in the last thread a bit but just wanted to note it again for those of you that missed it.

For those of you wanting to link your reservations together for dining
Do it after the 75 day mark passes

If the reservations are linked together and one person is in the reservation already another person on a different reservation will NOT be able to pull up theirs. This will really mess up anyone trying to book Palo, shore excursions, etc

As I said just reposting it for anyone that missed the information on the last thread

DH called me at work and said, "Call the Realtor and tell her that the washer and dryer are NOT staying with the house, since I'm on my way to buy new ones." I'm going to hope that his purchase experience goes a lot smoother than it seems yours did.

Hope you have an easier time than Cheryl:flower3:

So, not sure if I posted here or not but on the EB TransAtlantic repo I bought the big fig of the Fab Five at CC, well guess what arrived on my doorstep this morning -

AND ONLY 8 MONTHS LATE!!!!!!!!!

Wonder if it was mailed from CC? That would explain the 8 month shipping time.:lmao:

OK. There's some stuff like that around at the hotel gift shops. While I'm taking a walk with the pedometer for Arlene, I'll try to snap some pics of the gift shops. Hopefully they won't think I'm a terrorist.

That would be great! My MIL wants a Minnie sweatshirt and I'm sure I'm gonna have one heck of a time finding one in the middle of August!

Actually no - it was shipped from CC to WDW and a special :tink: then air-freighted it to me. Guess they got tired of my 10 faxes, my umpteenth phone calls and finally my all out threats to say my credit card had been hijacked while onboard ship. Or it could have been my saying I was going to contest ALL the charges on my upcoming 3/4 cruises - :rotfl: Oh well, now I have to play nice -- I do so enjoy playing the villian sometimes. :maleficen

Oh yeah  - "they refunded my charges" or so they say. We'll see when the bill comes in later this month. If they did - :woohoo: if not - oh well, at least I got it - just 8 months late!

The way we get sn*w is so cool. Beautiful white fluffy stuff that melts the exact second it hits the ground. I will try to run out and take pictures if it is still daylight before it gets here. Tonight only 32 and tomorrow in 40's or 50's so it will not stick around long.

Will do Mike later this evening. For some  reason, some idiot (that would be me ::yes::) decided to torture my body for 10 more sessions in the vain attempt to look good for this bunch (and a few others) I am seriously contemplating asking my dd to have a doc check me out. Anyway, my first session starts today in ...ummm.......30 minutes - and guess where I am? In sweats, t -shirt and just ate lunch.

GARWSH! Why do I do this to myself???? Ta Ta for now people - will report back later with pictures! :cutie:

I guess we'll have to make sure we all don't flush the dcl toilets at the same time. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

ok, enough of that stuff- sn*w is COLD!!!!
Good thing it will be gone tomorrow.

And remember the conversation that we had last week about the ice and germs, well I saw several articles in the last couple of days about s*** and bacteria. This one is from the New York Times.

March 4, 2008
Observatory
Prevalence of Bacteria in Making Snowflakes Is Seen as Widespread
By HENRY FOUNTAIN
Raindrops and snowflakes don’t just form by accident. They usually grow on tiny ice crystals, and unless it is supercold, the crystals have to grow on even tinier particles called ice nucleators.

Different particles like dust, soot and sulfate can be nucleators. Bacteria can do the job, too, particularly at temperatures closer to freezing (which is why some ski resorts add benign microbes to snowmaking water).

Scientists have known about bacteria’s role in ice nucleation for 40 years, but not how common it is. A study by Brent C. Christner of Louisiana State University and colleagues now shows that bacterial nucleators are everywhere.

The researchers took fresh snow samples at 19 locations around the globe, including Antarctica, and found DNA-containing cells in all of them. The amounts varied, with the fewest in Antarctica and most in samples from Montana and France. Experiments showed that at relatively warm temperatures as much as 85 percent of the ice nucleators in a sample were bacteria. The findings were reported in Science.

The researchers say the bacteria most probably is associated with plants. Further exploration of the role of microbes in ice formation and precipitation, they add, should aid in understanding how terrestrial vegetation may affect climate.

And you were worried about yellow snow.

I have found the older I get...the less tolerant I am!!!:rolleyes1 If you let people walk on you.....some tend to take a big advantage!! It is not about the free dinner but the principle of what is right and just!!!:flower3:

When things go right or people go out of their way....I tend to give compliments to higher authorities :cloud9: but I also complain when things go wrong.:headache:

My children pay no attention to me....I learned to quietly get my position across with out even raising my voice.:)

Sounds like a VERY FRUSTRATING weekend of trying to give money. That was great that the manager gave you such good service----although it would have been nicer not to have to go back into the store. I'll be hoping for a smooth delivery:goodvibes

The delivery went smooth although the service guys for got to turn my gas back on!!!:rotfl:

I know this was mentioned in the last thread a bit but just wanted to note it again for those of you that missed it.

For those of you wanting to link your reservations together for dining
Do it after the 75 day mark passes

If the reservations are linked together and one person is in the reservation already another person on a different reservation will NOT be able to pull up theirs. This will really mess up anyone trying to book Palo, shore excursions, etc

As I said just reposting it for anyone that missed the information on the last thread

:goodvibes

I just talked to DCL Sunday afternoon. I am linked with several couples for months now. I was told thay everyone will be able to get into their own reservation...however....the entire list of people will show up when you try to book an excursion. Just make sure you unlick the unwanted or just click on the people you are trying to book for!!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
A terrific CM named Jay(Jason) from the Castaway club told me this.:flower3:

I was also told DCL is fully aware fo the problems with booking for the WBPC. :rolleyes1 The IT department is trying to resolve some issues. He is just telling everyone to just be patient while the fish are swimming.:sad2: :sad2:

Do it after the 75 day mark passes

If the reservations are linked together and one person is in the reservation already another person on a different reservation will NOT be able to pull up theirs. This will really mess up anyone trying to book Palo, shore excursions, etc

As I said just reposting it for anyone that missed the information on the last thread

I hope he is right - when I went in to check a clients reservation today it came back with a message that I could not access it because someone else was looking at that or a linked reservation, DCL was looking at a linked reservation.

I would suggest that you give it a trial run, someone you are linked with and yourself should each try to pull up your own reservation at the same time and see if you are able to. Maybe I received the error because DCL was looking at one of the reservations and may work differently if it is individuals pulling them up??

Hi all. I've been watching this and the prior thread on and off for the last couple of weeks. It's hard to keep up, but I saw the news on Colombia today and the state department warnings. Has the safety of this port been discussed before on these threads? If so, does someone have a link to it?

Here's the link to the state department warning in February 2008, before today's news about the conflict with Ecuador and Venezuala.

http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/tw/tw_941.html

I'm not sure I want to get off the boat here even if things improve. Even the Disney tours seem to involve 15 to 30 minutes of shopping alone.

I'll try to keep up more as I'd like to join in and get to know everyone better.

Thanks!

We've discussed it off and on. The consensus is that if DCL keeps the stop in Columbia it will be best to go on a DCL organized tour rather than booking your own tour. There has been no comment from DCL regarding the port.

We had a great time at the Pirate and Princess party last August! i hope you guys will too!

If I remember what the linear combination method is:

The 3X and -3X should cancel out, the -Y + 4Y would be 3Y, and 14-6+8, so you get the equation 3Y = 8, which means Y = 8/3.

Let me know if that's right.

Just being a bit nostalgic but here's some close-ups of the Med Big Fig. I got it on the repo for 1/2 off orig price. But by the time you add on the $50 shipping charge (per Big Fig - do multiple discounts) it was just about the orig price. Oh well, I was the :headache: who bought it - BTW, this one came in 8 weeks. Its sister got delayed - must be the Bahamaian mail service. Finally made it to WDW on Friday and to me today, Monday.

Anyway, close-up of the Med Label on the big fig. If you look at the next picture you can see the real size of it:

http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p241/lauravell/DCLpix/P3030121.jpg

And the whole think - I left some of the foam on it to protect it - I got kids and a nephew who loves to touch all things breakable. Lil Taz is my nickname for him.

I have a totally unrelated question.
I am watching Good Morning America and they have a woman on (May Phay?) that was John Lennon's girlfriend in the late 70's.
They kind of said quickly that this was during the time John was having difficulty in his marriage to Yoko Ono. Did I get this right? John Lennon actually moved in and had an 18 month relationship with another woman while he was married to Yoko Ono?
I guess I am so naive. I had no clue someone could actually get away with moving in w/ the "other woman" and then go back.
I really do not like Yoko Ono so bully for John but did anyone else know this happened?

Math Alert!!!!

Lets see ...I owe DCl about $6000.00 at 5% interest a year(mine is in a CD)that is $300 a year. The interest for a year is $300 divided by 12 equal $25 a month. I have a little over two months to pay it. I will be earning Over $50 interest for those two months. I owe DCL $5.00 a port x 3 ports = $15.00 times 2 people = $30.00. The interest of $50 minus the $30 in port taxes means I am still $20 ahead by not paying off early!!!! I will not be paying my money early.:grouphug:

Just passing through. TOnite at the local Agoura Hills Library they're marking a Dr Seuss birthday of some sort - so I'm taking the kids over to join in group readings, refreshments and games. Then tomorrow I'm planning on taking my older daughter and a girlfriend of hers to see the SpiderWick Chronicles at an IMAX theater.

At any rate, I gotta run now - finish some gardening - cook some supper for the kids and pick them up early so we can make the Dr Seuss thing tonite.

It was Dr. Seuss day at dd's school yesterday. Local officials come and read. DD asked if she had dance class, because of the holiday?:confused3 I said what holiday and she said Dr. Seuss Day. Sorry not a real holiday.

The Government taxes on our cruise have been increased $5.00 per person, per Mexican Port.

Seeing this multiple places. Applies to the WB Carribeans too.

Only $85 more and they get the full $100 PC Tax?

Being that Mark is in Germany, I decided to follow up on the tax thing for us. I just got off the phone with our TA and they confirmed the tax increase of $5 per Mexican port and that the total would be $15.00 per person. So for us it is $90. If we pay in full today then we don't have to pay the tax.
Now I am just waiting for the boss to call me back and let me know how to pay but I think I might be with Cheryl that I make more then that in interest by keeping my $$ where they are for now.
I just wonder how many times we are going to see these little increases between now and sail. I am not the OCD planner in the family and mostly just want to be told where we are going and what to pack so I don't really know much about the details but thanks for posting the information Andy.

Hey Laura :wave2:

That's why I paid. Once they start adding new increases to previously booked cruises, whether paid or not, they will just keep doing it. I could see if it was added to all new ressies, but going back to someone after they booked and add it on is poor customer service. Of course on the bright side, our one share of Disney stock, next years dividen will be 37 cents instead of 35! LOL!

Not to mention the additional hassle if something should run amuck with the trip!

LOL!

Hi Tina,

Started snowing down your way yet????

East Coast = probably not a bad idea to Purell skin after letting snow touch it.... All that midwest power plant coal soot, etc. mixed in

I beg your pardon! :snooty: Like the east coast doesn't generate enough smog and pollution?

Morning Shannon! How are the rugrats treating you today?

afternoon! i LOVE sleeping children!! LOL!!
all my little ones are out cold...and our big kids ended up getting out of school early today...i swear it's ridiculous! some days we have so much snow, and they make them go...today there is a little slush and a "THREAT" of icy conditions, so they come home early! ugh! i can't wait for spring....so there are no more school closings, delays or early dismissals.

so question about transferring a ressie to a diff TA...
has anyone done it? i don't think i got any stateroom credit with my existing TA, and i see dreams unlimited is giving $200 per stateroom? is that right? is it worth it for me to transfer it? or do i have to have a new ressie? any thoughts on this?
and i'll ask again about the excursions...(posted yesterday but didn't get any responses)
what type have others done if you just want to see the sights? should we go with a DCL excursion or try to do something on our own? i want my kids to see each port we stop at...and i want them to learn about them too. any ideas? just do city tours? oldest ds will be 10yrs...and my youngest will be 5. i don't want them to be bored, but i want them to experience the ports.

Oh, it abolutely does, but then add the west to east prevaililing winds/jet stream means we get the benefits of our wonderful congestion/smog and the rest of the countries also.....

I was planning on charging it in April, so the six months means it will almost be paid off when we leave instead of 2/3 .....

And I am glad I paid off in full last year.

Possible if lots of people pay in full, maybe they could assign some Stateroom no's?

I know, just messing with you. I live a 1/4 of a mile away from both the county wastewater facility and a chemical plant. Guess which one I can smell from my house? The chemical plant! We also have a BASF plant on the north end of town, but I don't notice them. The wastewater facility I never smell unless I drive by on my short cut. (In the summer it's really ripe! LOL!) I have even had meetings there and never an oder.

So after my response from DCL about booking problems that was a form letter (others got same), I asked

Will this also address the fact that DCL will have both ships attempting to book excursions at the same time (I don't believe this has happened before).

Today's response:

Dear Tom:

Thank you for your response.

Please know that we continue to monitor all aspects of our guest booking
patterns and will make future adjustments as necessary.

Thank you again for your enthusiasm and support of our product.

To transfer to Dreams or any other TA, you would have to first transfer your ressier from your current TA, to DCL, then do another transfer to the TA of your choice.

You can get some great tours if you book on your own. On the piratezone I posted some info about a tour guide in Puerto Vallarta. He's great and really knows his city well. I lean towards activity tours so I can't help more than that.

Hey Mike - these are for you. Anything to post pictures and yes - before you ask - the figurines are not attached to the base which kinda sucks when you get a hyper-active dog running around the house -

http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p241/lauravell/DCLpix/P3030123.jpg

I love it! But I agree with you that it would be nice if the figures were all attached to the base. Thanks for posting!

Yep,it's all true!

Thanks for clarifying, I was just worried that DCL bumped him or something. That would be awful!

I just got the email from my Travel Agent about the increase in taxes. But, I can't pay off the cruise right now. I have the money for it in a CD and it doesn't come out until mid May. I just hope it earns enough interest to pay the difference...HA! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Gonna cut it close there kiddo! Pay off is what,May 19th?
