I made a New Year's Resolution that I have finally kept. I am eating right getting daily exercise and I am down 30 lbs since Jan 2... but I think a corn dog on the Boardwalk wouldn't hurt. I'll be in touch later this week with contact info for our meet.

For Fleagle....posted just before the switch over to this thread

Since I have decided to buck all rules and bring the music...FINALLY.....as per my avatar for the moment (until my Andytar comes in), I am prepared for my attempt to relay what you mean to all of us Flea (can't come close to Cato's but here goes)....

You see, just like the diehards here, your heart was so invested in your dream. We initially individually thought it was finally "our" chance. The opportunity to work for the dreammaker. They would see our videos and just know to select us! They would have to KNOW and SEE how perfect we would be......

Then the calls.....as our dreams of being the CMO were ending yours was continuing. You made the cut. You were now able to really believe in the dream. They saw it in you. And you continued to prove you were a kind, funny, creative and sincere force to be reckoned with.

You planned and believed and kept those of us who didn't make Top 20 (and truly believed we would) actually feel a part of the process because "our friend" made it! All of a sudden, our sour grapes were turning. We were excited again! And connected to a process that in any other situation, I am most sure, we would have bagged.

So, my friend, I believe your dream hasn't ended. You have made an impression. You WILL get to the "place where you belong." Maybe not the way we all thought you would.......but you will be a part of the magic of "insert sponsor here." You know how I know? Because you have already brought the magic back to me! And many others here. Diehard fans, who were a bit bruised. YOU REMINDED US of how much we wanted it for ourselves initially and then, wanted it for you!

Thank you for giving of yourself so much over the last few weeks. I have thoroughly enjoyed this and plan to stay around! By the way, it took me WAY MORE than 36 hours of pity party to get past my disappointment (and I had to get smacked around by Haunted a bit), and thanks to you and the others here I was able to vent and share and, ultimately, be able to support the winners in their journey for their dream (bummer we had to have the EXACT SAME DREAM, just sayin')....

There is a song that reminds me of you and your journey. An "insert sponsor here" song from an "insert sponsor here" movie. Here are the lyrics to the song I believe should be your signature song.....You WILL Go the Distance Eric......and, I for one, can't wait to see it all unfold!!!

p.s. I like Roger Bart's version more than Michael Bolton's, and since I am now officially "bringing the music" because it didn't work for me leaving it out.....ut oh.......there's still of touch of resentment left Flea, I am working on it too, see?!

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3533156381445362880&q=go+the+distance&total=4966&start=20&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0

Love and prayers,

Ann an Eric Fan!!! :grouphug:

GO THE DISTANCE

I have often dreamed
Of a far-off place
Where a great warm welcome
Will be waiting for me
Where the crowds will cheer
When they see my face
And a voice keeps saying
This is where I'm meant to be

I will find my way
I can go the distance
I'll be there someday
If I can be strong
I know ev'ry mile
Will be worth my while
I would go most anywhere
to feel like I belong

I am on my way
I can go the distance
I don't care how far
Somehow I'll be strong
I know ev'ry mile
Will be worth my while
I would go most anywhere
to find where I belong

I will beat the odds
I can go the distance
I will face the world
Fearless, proud and strong
I will please the gods
I can go the distance
Till I find my hero's welcome
Right where I belong

Wow Tripp, that's great! And here I thought I was doing well - I started the second week of January and I'm down about 10 lbs. I'm convinced that I'm sticking to it this time - I make much better eating decisions and I've learned to enjoy going to the gym. Crazy, I know . .

Now that we're in a new thread... here's a reminder:

Coverage of Campaign 2008 - The Search for a Chief Magic Official has arrived at http://www.distantcreations.com/insidethemagic

In this week's episode of Inside the Magic (Show #152), you'll hear interviews with 6 of the Top 10 finalists for Chief Magic Official:
Patrick Hurd, Justin Muchoney, Tripp West, David Wotruba, Amy Kate Connolly, and Meggin Weaver

Listen as each answers questions about how they'd make Disney magic and why they're the right person for the job of Chief Magic Official.

The interviews begin around 28 minutes into the show and run for just over an hour.

Again, you can download and listen to the show by visiting http://www.distantcreations.com/insidethemagic

An iPod is not necessary to listen... just a computer or other device capable of playing an MP3 file.

I was posting my reply to Ann and didn't see all of the other posts about me and my pins.

You guys have GOT to do me two favors:

1. Focus on your favorite Top 10 candidates. That's where the real action is... or should be, especially here. After all, you don't hear a lot of Mitt Romney conversation anymore on the news. (Except for how much personal money he spent on his campaign... hey! I'm Mitt Romney*)

2. Don't feel sorry for me. Yep... rough day. Just disappointed. But I'm just on the underside of the pancake (sorry newbies... check page 201 of the old thread) today. It will be better soon.

So, raise your glass to Fleagle one last time and then lets have some fun that doesn't involve feeling bad for me or looking backwards. If you would like a pin, I'll be happy to send you one or 30. Just email your address to egkidwell@mac.com They are cool and come prepackaged with a dose of chagrin and a dash of hubris.

*It should be noted that Mitt Romney dropped out of the campaign with they eye on running again in 2012. So, who knows? What's next Disney?

Just a quick check-in and a GIANT HELLO!!! and a welcome to the newbies!!!! I've seen a few check-in!!!

I guess the flu hit California and half of our office is out! So, I am desperately trying to get work done, so I can leave early for the Disney Dream Suite tour tonight... Whoo hoo!!:cool1:

Fortunately, I am finding time in the late hours for some intense voting sessions....but worth every minute!!!

Also, I still need to pick up my award, (THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO VOTED FOR ME!) It was an absolute thrill!!! I can't begin to explain the joy of being involved with such a fantastic group of people!

EDIT: I just found the following comment on our previous thread:

"Let me share with you -- there was actually a three way tie for this category among the #1 Guy, CalDisney and Paperdolls...and then guess who sent in a late vote herself??? CalDisney voting for paperdolls!"

I thought paperdolls should have won and I'm glad I did it! Did anyone come forward to accept the award?

I will check in later with pictures, I hope!!!!

BTW-Sweet Avatars!!!!! This is awesome fun!!!:yay:

Love to you all, Wendy

Boy, I leave town for a few days... and everyone changes the locks and moves on me! (Brings back memories of my childhood).

Great job everyone on the awards ceremony. Sorry I missed it -- apparently there was some confusion and the limo driver never showed up. Luckily I Tivo'ed it and got a chance to experience it tape delayed (hey we're used to that on the west coast).:happytv:

I still got a lot of after party posts to catch up on...

Okay I just listened to the candidates on the Inside the Magic Podcast and it was so much fun! You guys all did a great job. I was surprised how many of you top 10ers didn't immediately have ideas of things to change in the theme parks. I mean I love the parks too, but it I could change anything...oh boy I'd have a list! :rotfl: There is always room for improvement right?

Anyway great fun guys and let us know if you go on any other podcasts. And I can't wait to hear what everyone is doing to get votes (except right now you are still competitors and probably don't want to reveal all of the tricks up your sleeves). Good luck everyone it was fun to learn more about some of the top ten. And David, I love that you let neighborhood kids drive the Autopia car around your property, too funny.

It really is "A Small World After All."

I had a quick meeting at Starbucks after work, and of course I couldn't let my clients go without a little campaigning since this has consumed my life. I told them all about the contest and how to vote and then we got to talking about Disney. Middway through the conversation, a gentleman walks by and says hello and adds a little to the conversation. I started talking to him and it turns out he is one of the 12 pilots who fly the Disney executives around the country. What are the chances? I talked to him for about 15 minutes and you could tell he loved what he did. I also asked him to put a good word in for me with Iger.

Sorry to have made a cameo appearance then seemed to run off. We had a 4-day visit from our 6 month old granddaughter which required LOTS of our attention.

What an amazing community this is. David's been on MousePlanet for years but it wasn't until we saw Brady's column that we learned of DISboards. I've tried to follow the awards - what fun!!

We know how it feels not to make the cut. Both of us tried out for last year's contest. We didn't make it very far at all, had put a lot of time and energy into it, so pretty disappointed.

In answer to how did David respond when he received the call. He was actually more surprised and excited when he got the call that he was in the top 20. I was outside when he got that one. He came out to tell me with a grin that almost cut his face in half. The top 10 call came to him at work. He's a pharmacist (and family therapist) so his patients probably thought he was taking some of those "happy" pills himself. Ironically, his interview coincided with a trip to DL - that was fun.

Keep the smiles and the silliness. And vote.

Tripp, what was the "waking up tinkerbell" thing that you talked about on the podcast, I have never heard of it?

At MK, if you are the first person to get to Tinkerbell's Treasures, you can ask the CM if you can "wake up Tink." It's located on your left as you walk through the castle into Fantasy land. It's usually a foot race at rope drop. I have never been able to do it with my daughters, but a friend of mine got a chance with his family. He had an early morning ADR at CRT and finished up as the park was opening. Just happened to be in the right place at the right time. He said there was a disappointed family who came running up out of breath and realized as they arrived that it was too late.

No problem. If you explore the DIS, you will find several threads with Tips, Tricks, and Hidden Touches... er...I mean, Hidden Mickey's. The small and often overlooked magical touches of Disney is a topic that I love to research, and check out while I'm at the parks. There is so much there that is so easily missed. Another way to find out some cool info is to strike up a conversation with a CM, especially if that CM has worked for Disney for a while. CM's love to talk to guests. They love to share their own stories but often don't get a chance because us guests are often in such a rush to get from here to there. I had a great conversation with a bus driver one day. I know it doesn't sound safe that I may have been distracting him, but I was the only one on the bus going to Old Key West that afternoon.

I won't be around much tonight. I have to work on our weekend dance mix. I have to get two weekend shows done this week because I am out this weekend and next weekend on vacation. I have a full plate this week with voting and all of my other duties. Why is it always like that? So hectic the week you leave for vacation? Have a great night and keep voting!!!

Seeking clarification on that last comment: Are you suggesting that THE DONALD may post a message on the dreamcmo.com site? (A concession speech, maybe? ...Or, is it too early in the race for that?)

Correction: Ahhh! (Okay, I'm a little slow tonight, but I think I may have answered my own question.) Meaning: Today it's Mickey, but tomorrow -- after the snow -- there may be a new funky snow friend featured in your family photo. You're going to get a visit from The Donald!? )

I honestly am undecided as to who to support in the CMO and I'd like the candidates to provide one sentence telling us why anyone should vote for them.

When I ran for pirate it was to me about interacting with the kids on the island and bringing smiles to their faces. I'll always remember the final autograph being the first autograph for a child. I though about how that kid would remember that pirate for years to come.

What about you? Why do you want to be CMO?

You may want to add some explanation of the links to your siggie (i.e., "Blooper Reel") (Just add the words after the link). That way people will know what the links are and who doesn't like Bloopers?

What about you? Why do you want to be CMO?

You want to hear something interesting? This is the actual "Objective" statement on my business resume: "Apply my theatrical skills in a creative environment to entertain and educate"

I'd change it slightly for the CMO job. If I was printing a resume for this position, I think I might have it read, "Objective: Apply my theatrical skills and huge heart in a magical environment to impart joy and laughter"

Seriously, I feel a responsibility to have others fall in love with Disney the way that I have and have them feel the Disney magic that has been in my heart since I was a little girl. Disney's been instrumental in forming who I am. I want to give back.

ok, there were a few sentences there. you could use the first sentence of my last paragraph as my "platform," i guess.

Okay I love Kenny's Mickey Snowman, Disgeeks Surgeon general warnings and Eric's Pity party. So funny. And HMF I have no idea for a title, sorry- but that is great that you will be one step closer to your "dream job." (even if it's not the CMO job!) Nurses are in high demand right now!

So where are the rest of the top ten? I thought some might discover this thread when they were scouring the internet trying to figure out how to get votes. I hope you guys are wearing buttons and t-shirts wherever you go so if anyone asks you can share the excitement! CMO blogs coming soon? I know Tripp has a nice one set up- I guess the rest of you are spending morning noon and night working on all this kind of stuff. Good Luck!

Oh yeah I wanted to ask- Did they provide anymore information to you guys about exactly what you would be doing once you win CMO? I know you will make appearances at events, but after that it was a little vague (just basically bringing cheer and helping make dreams come true). Do you get to help give away dream squad type prizes and stuff?

If you take a look at my qualifications: Passion For Disney, Knowledge of The Parks, Great Customer Service Provider, Always Putting Others Before Me, Personal Happiness and Fulfillment Comes From Making Others Happy, Love Working With Children of All Ages (We're all big kids at heart, right?), Outgoing Personality, Friendly, Easy To Talk To, and Fun To Be Around, you will see why I should be your CMO. As far as why I want to be CMO? I would love the opportunity to continue to spread my love and passion for Disney in a unique and much larger capacity.

I know this is supposed to only be a sentence but it's so hard to narrow it down. Like Kenny, I have seen first hand how a childs face lights up when they meet their favorite character, or are asked to be in the Pirate Tutorial with Cap'n Jack, or find the key under the mat at Muppet Vision. I have seen the excitement in mom, dad, and kids in the bus line at All-Star Music while they prepare to walk into the Magic Kingdom for the very first time. It's that excitement that I want to carry with me and share with everyone as YOUR CMO!

Thank you so much for your support!

Ok..... so this is totally of topic... but I need some opinions. I'm handing in my admission application today to nursing school. I had to write an essay why I selected nursing as a career, how my strengths will help in school, how I will overcome obstacles, etc... well what I'm trying to decide is if I should title the essay or not. And if I should..... I couldn't really think of a snazzy title.

I would title it: "I want to get a job as a nurse because I need to pay for all my SPONSOR vacations!"

I've not seen Tangela or Jennifer online ever.

THE DONALD finally arrived after a tough flight in last night due to a freak March snowstorm in Southern Okieland. He looks a bit haggard, due to a temperature climb today of 20 degrees (I'm melting, I'm melting!)

An important message from THE DONALD:
Wack, wack, wack, wa, wa, wack, wa, wack-wack, wa-wa-wa.
Translation: I'm very saddened that I've served THE SPONSORS faithfully for so many years and I've been left out in the cold when it comes to the CMO position. Don't worry, you've not heard the last of this duck! I may even join KTP's campaign for Barhillabamacain!

Thanks for the blog props!!! There is so much I want to do, but I am running low on time. And we are leaving for Disney World on Friday (with an over night stop in Savannah to pick up mom).

To my knowledge, the CMO will be in California for at least 2 required press events this year, one being the Grand Opening of Toy Story Mania. They will also be invited to speak at the CareerBuilders.com annual meeting in Chicago the first week of January to share their Dream Job experience. There are also a few more required trips to California in 2009, and a handful of optional trips to Disney World that the CMO will be invited to take this and next year. I have all of the dates written down at home.

The small print:

Of course all dates are subject to change. Tax, tag, and title with approved credit. Batteries not included. One size fits all. Do Not Pass Go. We'll leave the light on for you.

There was actually a second phone call about 10 days ago to go over dates and eligibility. When I saw the 407 area code on the phone, I thought it might be "the call." But... alas, it was just someone setting up a phone appointment for yet another call later in the day.

One of the reasons I had my hopes up a little is that nobody else mentioned the extra call on the message boards. But everyone else was probably thinking what I was thinking: Why would they call all 20 people when they certainly have it narrowed down a bit? I was hoping it was just a crossing of the T's before I got my package in the mail! (I don't want to spoil the ending for you... but I was wrong!) I didn't want to say anything because I didn't want anyone else to be disappointed if they didn't get the same call. Who knows, the rules allowed for a "tiebreaking call." So maybe I was tied and I lost. (I think its more likely that they called everyone... maybe you other folks who got cut can shed more light.)

Anyway... they listed LOTS of dates on the call. Four probable dates and then at least 8 other ones that were "optional." Bear in mind... these will be both the option of the CMO AND of Disney. She mentioned that they were only required to employ the CMO for ONE DAY. I'm sure that's just a legal protection... but they could have the CMO at the parks for a day and then say... "thanks for coming, buh bye!"

Another fun fact... the person who called was a former Disney Ambassador. (and very, very, very nice)

Tripp -- keep your posts coming! You are really starting to come out of your shell and I love it! Your sense of humor is warm and engaging -- I want more!

Fleagle -- thanks for the update on the phone call...will be interesting to see if others were called or not...I wonder if you were <snap> this close to being Top 10 and then 'something' got in the way...I have my speculations on that but as DISGeeks said -- fly on the wall would have been awesome.

HMF -- I think a title would add a creative and organized element to your essay. Just go through your writing and then try to resay the most important point in less than 6 words...what would it be? or what is the number one reason (besides paying for Disney vaca) you want to be a nurse?

Kenny -- love the Donald!

DisGeeks/Kenny -- everytime I see one of your posts with your avatar, it makes me laugh and smile!

Catatigger -- how about "Cat Moving Onward!" (or did you use that one already?)

Ok, think I am caught up...need to work on letter "A" today!

Hi everyone! I'm only here to say hello for a second before I go to my second job today, but I'll come back to play a little this evening!!

Eric, seriously, you're amazing!!

Kenny, I love the Donald. Even if I had the snow, I couldn't create anything that looked that good. My family won't let me sculpt the clay in Cranium.

I got one of those phone calls too, last week. They called it a "screening," and they verified that we would adhere to contest rules and the "Disney Look." I also had to answer a multiple choice question--I guess we all did that? It was stressful, because I had a hard time rating most of the answers in order of importance.

Love to all--I will return....

(Justin, you definitely get the gold star for answering in one sentence. I was going to just write my "objective" post and think about my "one sentence," and instead it all just came right out of me in one long post. bear hug for you!!)

Yeah, I also got a call on Tuesday before the big reveal. Like Fleagle, I was thinking that the call was a good sign. The person I talked to went over the Disney look- no tatoos, no piercings, no facial hair (except a moustache), hair cut above the ears... the last two were things I would have to work on. She was very nice and told me to relax until Friday (the day the package would or would not come in the mail). I was thankful for that and I took her advice. And I'm still "relaxing"- not sitting at my computer 24/7 getting finger cramps. Though I am throwing some votes to my fellow DISers. And I'm throwing some votes to Fleagle on his site (great site!), it's like voting for Huckabee. :woohoo:

What a great time we had last night!!!!! An amazing hotel room!!!! Oooohs and Aaaaahs all around!!!

We were able to take pictures, but no video...boo hoo.

Any suggestions on how I can show the pictures? I could post them one by one with a caption, but there are 25 or 30...yikes. On the other hand, it would probably be like showing home movies....yawn city, so maybe I will sit down tonight and pick the best pics and post them here.

We heard some interesting tidbits from the CM conceirge who works the late shift for the guests who stay over....wow! This is Disney and unfortunately I cannot repeat most of this on the boards...let's just say, when a guest is taking a bath and needs more ummmm shampoo, some do not hesitate to call the CM to take care of that problem:scared: ...my DS14 was laughing hysterically at this...:lmao:

If you wanted to, you could create a mini-Trip Report in the DL trip report section and just post away. if you do this, send us a link. This way you can easily post all the pictures and write up something for some/all of them.

You could add them to your website or photobucket account and give us access.

Or simply post them here (unless we just want to keep this thread on-topic with CMO stuff).

Here's my version circa 1996...this picture of my son and Donald along with my letter made it into the Disney Magazine Winter 97/98...the cover had Robin Williams with Flubber on it...geez it doesn't seem like it was that long ago but Erich is 14 now!!! Time flies!!

Thanks again for the Tips & Tricks "cheat-sheet!" I will get great use out of those. The site came back up, but it is running very slow. Is it because a lot of people are voting? Or is it a server issue? Well, back to work. If I get done early enough, I'll pop back on.

Yeah, I'm hoping it was down earlier today and running so slow at other times because of the overwhelming number of votes coming in for Meggin, Tripp, Patrick, myself, and the other DISers!

We can always dream, right?!

Well, I've gotta turn in for the night. I've had a couple of LONG days at work (as I know many of you have!) and I am whooped. Hopefully I'll catch more of you online tomorrow!

See you soon . . .
