View Full Version : May 30, 2009 - Western Cruise Magic

We will be on the May 30th cruise. I'm getting very excited and nervous. I'd rather not be on a boat for 7 nights! I feel kind of "trapped". Everyone in my family has gone on a disney cruise except myself, and my dd (6) keeps saying, "in one week all your dreams will come true- no cooking and cleaning!".
My ds (2) will probably be wearing "nice" shorts to dinner. I bought two pairs of plaid shorts for the cruise (one red/blue and the other green/blue). With a polo short he looks very good. He is such a boy, and I can't see him in dress pants. I told my husband I'm not going to stress about Liam and his clothes!
You could feel 'trapped', but probably not once you are on the beautiful ship and see how huge it is. There are lots of areas to explore and it always takes me several days to get to know my way around. I have been on two 3-night Cruises on the Wonder and it was just too short. This is my first 7-night on the Magic and I am still wondering if that's enough time to get to do everything that I want to do!!!:lovestruc
Now if my kids come to me every hour or so and want me to entertain them, then it is going to be a long week.
Bring a couple of good books if you like to read and in the evenings, get lost on the deck just looking out into the beauty that God created. I could never get tired of doing that.
I hope that you love it so much that after just one day you will wonder why you were nervous. :cloud9::goodvibes

Has anyone heard who will be our CD?
Also, I just checked and CAT's 4,5, & 6 are showing.
I didn't check to see if they were GTY's or not.

Is there anyway to find out who the afternoon tea will be with ? I thought I read somewhere that it could be either Wendy or Alice?

CD is Brent (this info from Christiaan on our March cruise...we specifically asked). Tea is currently with Alice.
I'm tired...maybe it's a good thing tomorrow is a holiday. My teen were discussing the varieties of potatoes on the ship!?!? I don't get it...but I'm just the mom figure.

You will sign up on the ship at Guest Services. :)
You can also sign up for wine tasting, tequila tasting etc. at guest services.

Tea with Alice will be offered on the sea days. There is limited seating, so a free ticket is required for each member of your party. You can get the tickets at Guest Services after boarding.
OK, they will post an announcement in the Navigator that tickets are available...and they will go really fast after that. SO...go to Guest Services on the first day or so. If the CM won't give you one, swing by another time and ask another person....they may say that they aren't giving them out until whenever...but the right person will hand them to you before the official announcement. You can get one ticket for each member of your party. There are 2 teas--you can attend only one of them.
Also....if you pick up more tickets than you end up using (like dad backs out at the last minute), please turn in the ticket. If 2 people turn in un-used tickets, that's another mom and kid who can attend.

There must be something funny about potatoes and being a teen cause mine mentions them randomly (I think just to be funny). Not sure where this started and it's rather odd, but I'm sure my parents thought the same thing of me when I was teen--LOL. I think it's just to get a laugh or an odd stare from adults- LOL.
Bruce...you sound exactly like the kind of person I would want to spend a 7-day vacation with. Laid back and relaxed. Good thing since we will be stuck on a boat together.:rotfl:
DH wanted to wear shorts too and I told him no since the fashion police seem to be lurking around here...not necessarily on this meet thread though. But then again, I will probably never see any of these people again anyway so what do I really care.
One week to go!!!!!
:cool1:You're all my kind of people. Vacation is time to relax. I left my fashion police g/f at home, so hoping we're all safe :) If any fashion police board without registering their nonofficial fashion police ids with Disney, hopefully they'll get over it, and if they don't, well doesn't sound like my problem. Afterall-- they didn't registered their id upon boarding.:rotfl2:
Also YEAH on the UP! movie -- I've been waiting to see this since I saw previews months ago. popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn:: Yes we'll probably all need our own popcorn since we are all popcorn hogs.

You can pick up a case of water at CVS in Key West too.
Thanks for the wonderful helpful tidbit--definitely going to check it out.
If dining at Topsiders, is it just walk-in or certain times.
For the galley tours and such, when and where do I find out about them and how do I sign up?
Can teens use the workout area?
I'm getting so excited. I packed what I could and still have a few things to get in because DS graduate from Jr Hi Wed. night and he needs to take his dress clothes. So I guess I'll be washing before our flight Thurs since our flight is at 5:30 Thurs. I'm sure I have other questions I haven't even thought of - :rotfl:

There are certain times, but they are quite broad and flexible

Can teens use the workout area? The fitness center is part of the spa--adults only most of the time. There are 2 or 3 one hour sessions on a 7 day cruise when the Stack group goes to the fitness center. This is the only time teens can use it. However, they can use the running track and sports deck at any time.

Hey,
If anyone has a chance, please get an email address for Rodolfo from Chile from the Sessions bar. He is the greatest bartender in the room. Tell hime the "double martini" couple was asking about him from May 16th thru 23rd, he will know who you are talking about.
Thanks

Been offline for several days. We're in Florida. We were able to get a water pump before they closed for the weekend so except for having to pull the pump & 100 ft of plastic pipe in the rain to install a new pipe we were able to stick with our original plan. Otherwise, we'd still be at home in Kansas with no water, waiting for the store to open to get a new pump.
Spent today with DH & his family. Tomorrow is WDW.

As for me, I am sooo excited and can't wait to leave here Friday morning! Bruce will be ready for a week of no work and relaxation after working overtime for way too many days. He will probably be late tonight and tomorrow too. Just be glad to have a week of him without the stress of work. :lovestruc

For all of us who are left here, I just checked the Disney website and as of right now, they have opened all categories! With today being the last day to book the cruise (since they must have your name on a list 3 days prior to sailing), it looks like they are trying to get the ship full.
Most of the categories that I checked are GTY though.
OK just checked my reservation and saw this really wierd thing pop up. I'm not sure what it means, but it scares me a little. I will give it a few minutes and try again.

Hi all,
We are really excited about this cruise too. We have been here in Orlando since the 18th but have had tons of rain. No matter still having a great time. We would love to see some of you on the cruise. My husband is handicapped and will be driving a little red scooter. We are celebrating our 50th anniversary the first day of the cruise, so we will be wearing our 50th anniversary shirts a lot during the cruise so you can tell who we are.

Crazy check in questions :)
I got everybody filled in online...SO I should have 2 things to print right? One cruise contract signatures and Payment Authorization Summary *there is only my name on it needing a signature because I authorized charging?*
Is that all I need from online besides the Oceaneers Club form saying I registered DD online?
THEN...Next question-This your travel booklet that I got from DCL..What do I need from it?We are driving ourselves..so there is no transfer/transportation things needed...What in here do I need to fill out and bring or do I just bring the whole thing with me?
OH I AM SO EXCITED! I won't sleep for days now :)

Congratulations to you both! I hope the rain stops for your sake! We have nothing to ask for compared to you. We always say we are celebrating our anniversary because it seems like we are always on vacation around that time. We are small potatoes compared to you but we had our 13th on Sunday.

Well, the count down has really begun as we leave Thur. night from HI. I wish we had the same weather as here but as they say; a day of rain on vacation is better than a sunny day at work!
I was checking the forecast and it looks like it will be clearing off on Sunday and not a bad start since we will be at Key West. As far as the week it looks like it gets better next Friday in Orlando anyway. Grand Cayman didn't look so hot and Cozumel will have light showers. Have no idea about Castaway Cay but looking at the Bahamas it's not good. Weather forecasts have been wrong so no biggie. I do know this, everyone will have a great time and please say your prayers for nice weather! See you at the PARTY!!!
Aloha!

Hi all,
We are really excited about this cruise too.
Hope everyone has a great trip and tons of fun.
Peg
Congratulations to you both! I hope the rain stops for your sake! We have nothing to ask for compared to you. We always say we are celebrating our anniversary because it seems like we are always on vacation around that time. We are small potatoes compared to you but we had our 13th on Sunday.
Congratulations! We're celebrating our 25th anniversary.
I am all packed (I think) and we are headed out the door right now! Hope we are leaving the rain behind.

Those 2 things are the only things you need that you printed online. The travel booklet you will not need a thing from there since you are driving yourself.

COOL !! Thanks :)
I didn't think there was anything in it I needed but wanted to make sure that I didn't leave it behind and find out I needed something from it.
The packing begins tomorrow!! YAY!!
How do I manage to do this without DD knowing where we are going and what we are doing? PACK WHILE SHE IS SLEEPING ;) That's how..LOL

Just got back to DB's. My feet are killing me!!! We spent yesterday at WDW. Did all 4 parks in one day. Today we did IOA & part of Universal. We figured that it would take us all day to do IOA but there were no people any where but Suess's Landing. We were finished by 1:30 & headed for Universal. Could have done more at Universal but we decided that we're getting too old for too many rollercoasters. We used to love them. That's why we did all 14 rollercoasters at Cedat Point just a few years ago.

Any input, greatly appreciated.

The packing is kinda stessfull. I feel like I'm taking too much but yet I am taking things that are supposed to be helpful as well so...I hope I dont look like a pack horse loaded down.
As for the candy put in a bag of Hershey Kisses that say thank you on word strip, I have heard of others putting in m&ms . I don't think there is anything that would be wrong to put in. I'm driving down in the morning. I can't believe it. My ds6 still doesn't know where we're going. I am still not exactly sure how I'll tell him.

Boarding passes for airplane--Southwest lets you print passes 24 hours in advance.
Promenade Lounge 3 pm is on deck 3 of ship port side between midship and aft. Walk past Lumiere's heading for Parrot Cay and you'll pass it. There is a bar, a dance area, and the internet cafe is next to it. Yes, kids are more than welcome. This is a family area at all hours.

C'est impossible! Other than the sniffles, it was such a wonderful, magical trip and we consider it being the best vacation we ever had. This was our first 7 day, after having done a 4 day in 2005. It was truly wonderful (I know, I already said that).
I'm hoping to do a trip report soon, too. I met Suzanne and the Chase family and others I don't think I could place by name, but it was great meeting so many DIS folks! We rock! :cool1: Having the DIS gang on board, certainly added to our enjoyment.

Hi all. Just dropping in for BibbidyBobbidyBoo got an email from her this morning. She is having internet problems while at WDW. She has not forgot about y'all.
Thanks for posting that for me!!!
What happened is I forgot to pack my paper with all my passwords on it- and couldn't even remember my charter email password (had changed it recently) and online charter wouldn't give me the password or change it with no amount of other proof of who I was BESIDES some numbers off a bill.... as if I'd bring my bill with me on vacation? (stooopid) So i wasn't even able to ask for passwords, like for this board, to be emailed to me since I couldn't get in my email either! The only thing I could get on and remember the password was gmail (the way I reached Shannon) and that's probably because gmail makes you log in occasionally so I have the password memorized instead of just logging me in automatically like on my pc here. LOL
So...... I had 2wks of no internet at all except trying to get password from charter (and being denied) and emailing Shannon about it. LOL
We made it home safely today - ofcourse DH and myself rather exhausted while the kids have lots of energy having slept practically the entire way home yesterday and today. LOL Par for the course. We're having DCL withdrawals ofcourse...... :sad2: :sad1:
I don't think I really saw a lot of you during the cruise- it happens that way sometimes... maybe even passing one another without realizing it? We appreciated all the FE gifts though- so thoughtful, creative, fun, etc. :) :)
I need to have a few days to get over my withdrawal (and unpack, prepare for youngest's birthday party this saturday, etc.) before I can really talk more about the cruise- so I won't get more bummed out that it's over. wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
anyone else having DCL withdrawals? we always do. :(

Lots of withdrawals here :( from all 3 of us.
I think that the people on the ship were MUCH more friendly on the ship than in the parks. So we might cruise more than going to the parks now.
I am blogging about the cruise *I was going to do a TR about it but it is much easier to blog because I have a lot of NON DISNEY friends..LOL who can't read the DIS*
I still have my sea legs and find my self laying in bed and swaying..LOL Which is fine by me because I slept so much better on the boat than at the resort :) Maybe they should put water beds in the resorts!

Unfortunately being a Navy family we couldn't but would have LOVED to rebook.Hubby's schedule doesn't let us look that far into the future. This time I booked and paid April 2nd for the May 30th.And that was still pushing it because we weren't sure if he could get the time off.Lucky for us he did :)
BUT we are talking about saving up and re booking for next year !! I guess if it is last minute we can do that as long as we are on the boat.

Couldn't you still rebook onboard with a "dummy" date like we do? And then just transfer it to the date you want to do later on when you find out when you can go? That's what we do. Granted we do it with more notice, because we can (don't have your situation) and do so to try to get the lowest price- but I don't see why you couldn't do the same -the ony difference is you'd have to book it short notice when you know you can go but you'd still get the 10% off and the onboard credit since you rebooked it onboard... and you can move your dummy dates further and further (to avoid ever losing any money on penalties within the penalty phase) until you can use it- or later on if need be you could cancel it and get all you deposit money back.
We rebooked onboard another room- to go with the one "dummy booking" date we still had (since we always cruise with 2 rooms for our family of 5). We used "dummy dates" transferred to May 30th for this cruise and 2 other dummy dates were transferred to the 2010 transatlantic we're taking- that left one room left booked on dummy date, not yet transferred to any specific date to actually cruise. So we rebooked onboard another date then told our TA to move both rooms to be waitlisted for the Wonder repo to Ca. :)
Our trip home was uneventful- it was atleast better than the drive there (the drive there was rain the entire way thru 4 states... the drive home only had one downpour for about an hour before we got out of Florida) -I may have already said that? But we did lose one cover/casing on the outside of the trailer (hopefully we can replace it. It covers where you can get in the wiring/etc. behind the fridge area! LOL) and then a few hours after we got home (a few hours after my previous post on this thread) the a/c went kaput. so um.... it got hot and I didn't want to unpack in the heat. We slept in the trailer in our backyard since it had a/c and I can't sleep in 90 degree weather sweating to death all night. LOL Had to get an a/c guy out here and pay to get that fixed. I can't go without a/c here in Texas in the summer! No way! So I had to pay to get it fixed even though we're feeling kinda poor righ now after our vacation just about emptied our wallets. LOL
Finally working on unpacking today once it cooled off a bit in here though. Normally I'd let the luggage sit for awhile and get over my blues (from leaving the ship) for a bit but this time -no time for that! First off this time with camping some of the "stuff" we need in the house (cooking stuff/etc.) and Rita is having her birthday (pool) party here this Saturday so I have to get the house **** and span- and the pool was yucky green so I'm working on that too! (and DH went to clean the pump/filter and it has cracks so diametrous- sp?- soil was leaking into the pool plus the rain while we were gone turned it green. He's trying to seal the cracks or else we'll have another big cost to get that replaced!)
Anyway her party was supposed to be Sat the 20th but everyone had plans that weekend it seemed- so it was either have her party THIS saturday or have her party with no one showing up for it! So now I have a bit of a rush to get that done- along with dr appts (physicals for camp) and dentist appts (ones I couldn't get squeezed in before our vacation),etc.- I have a busy week ahead of me!
I would have preferred to just let those bags sit and stew awhile though.... :rotfl: Ohwell... we have our next cruise to look forward to (TA in 2010) -that is if we can afford it by then and I hope we can! :)
ps. we really super mega enjoyed our cat 3 on this cruise... and now what once felt like a once in a lifetime thing- assuming it would always cost too much and this time we just lucked out with the discounted upgrade at the port- is something we're hoping we can do again in the future! It worked out great for us- the extra space, bathrooms, etc. (we kept the one cat 9 for the older two kids too) and bigger verandah, eating in room at our leisure, etc., etc. etc..... it was awesome!!!!! I hope we can cruise cat 3 again in the future!!!!!

Just checking in. We got home last night about 8 pm. It was a VERY long drive!
I really enjoyed meeting some of you on the cruise! Suziepoo was across the hall from us so we ran into her quite often. Missed the onboard meet so we didn't get to meet everyone.
It was a wonderful cruise & I'm ready to go back again! DH wants to do Alaska next, so since Disney doesn't do Alaska we'll have to go with someone else. :sad1: Not sure who yet.

Thank you everyone! THe cruise was great...the FEs were AMAZING, my teens behaved, etc.
We had a long trip home. DD and I were bumped from our direct flight and spent the night in Tampa...arrived home on Sunday afternoon. The Tampa airport is nice--free internet, several decent places to eat. There is a Mariott similar to the situation with the Hyatt in Orlando.
It was great meeting many of you! And yes, we did a rebooking on board for a dummy date.

We got back last night and are trying to return to reality.
So glad we got to meet so many of you and put faces with names and I hope that someday we'll be able to cruise again together sometime. We didn't rebook, but we did join the Disney Vacation Club so there will be lots of Disney vacations in our future.
Thanks to everyone for all the great FE gifts that made this cruise so exceptionally wonderful.

Hi everyone...we've been back since Sat. but it's been absolutely crazy here as my kids still have school left...they're not done til the 17th! We are going through withdrawal...that's for sure!
We loved our 1st Disney cruise and can hardly believe that we go to be the family of the day and be the 1st ones to board. It all went so fast...thank goodness my dh got like a 30 second shot of the terminal as I don't even remember what it looked like since we were only in it for about 20 minutes-lol!
We did re-book while onboard and we've already watched the videos we took as my almost 2 y.o. keeps asking to go on the "Mickey boat". I am soooo happy that we took as much video as we did as he was pasted to the tv screen watching it...and he normally doesn't watch tv. We're not planning to go again until he turns 3 so he can enjoy the kids clubs...he wasn't a big fan of the nursery and only ended up spending 2 hours in it- he wanted to be in the club with his older sister-lol.
Thank you everyone for the FE gifts and thanks to....yikes I can't remember her name...for the Mickey crocs for my oldest son...he's worn them everyday since you left them at our door on the Magic! Even though we only saw a few of you it was so great seeing some friendly faces while onboard.

Shout out to everyone!! Our trip was certainly memorable and meeting a lot of yall made it even more special.
DS lost his wallet in KeyWest and someone (I'll never know who, but sure wish I could find her) turned it in to the Gangway folks and we were so thankful.
I won $100 OBC by default as I was the only one to attend the DVC presentation on Tuesday. :rotfl::thumbsup2
I'm still catching up on my missed sleep, but it was worth it. I think my body is totally confused with how many calories I'm supposed to eat. I've now lost weight since the start of the cruise. :confused3
I especially loved participating in the FE. What a great group!!
Here's hoping we all cruise together again soon.

It was me! Sorry I had to cram the crocs in your FE like that, but we kept going to your room and not finding you there.. and I wanted to give them to you ASAP so he could use them DURING the cruise and not wait till further in the cruise to give them to you. I had no idea when we'd see you again and shoot- we never did see you again! :( I'm so glad he liked them and that they fit!
I took 2 photos of you as you were about to go in first as the family of the day- unfortunately my camera decided to be a patooty head (long story- lots of pictures gone for some reason, the rest with 2005 dates on them when I didn't even have it set to put dates on the photos, etc.) and only one of the photos is still on there. I'll send it to you! :) I was so tickled for you guys that you were chosen family of the day! Did you get any other special treats/treatment other than allowed on first?
we've been in the port before (once- our last cruise was out of Ca) but it was way back in 2006...... and I didn't get to see much of it this time since I was basically just checking in, then in the line for upgrade and then once we upgraded we pretty much only had a few moments before walking on! I only had a few moments to run back over to our "meet area" and try to meet some (and get updates on room # changes). I didn't even set my butt down on the cushioned seats in the port once! LOL
I'm so glad you all enjoyed it and will be cruising again. :) Maybe we'll cruise again together someday! :)

That is so cool about the wallet!
And LOL about the $100 OBC by default! I'm glad you got it- I shoulda gone and then my chances would have been 50/50 to get it! LOL (j/k ofcourse- glad you got it!)
I actually got more sleep on this cruise than any other I've ever taken! I'm not sure why- maybe the bed was more comfortable- I know for sure the pillow was more comfortable! I slept on the memory foam one and at the end of the cruise I asked about buying one (and did)- I have pillow issues even at home and I can fall asleep when my head hits that pillow! LOL Unfortunately I was NOT as lucky as you to lose weight while on the cruise- I never do! I gained weight on the cruise like I always do... I just canNOT lowcarb while on the cruise! so I have to "re-lose" some weight to get back where I was and then continue to try to lose more. LOL
My only regret from this cruise (because it was awesome!!!) was that I didn't see more of you all throughout the cruise! I saw some of you at the port terminal, most of you at the meet at promenade lounge and then saw Kcashner a couple times I think- and that's it! I didn't see any of you the rest of the cruise! I hate when that happens. :( Rita said she never saw Erica except once in the hallway but I was like um Rita- you have to BE in the lab to see her in the lab! (Rita pulled the same stuff as always- wanting to stay with us practically 24/7 and not really wanting to go in the lab much at all LOL)

Alaska was actually mentioned at the Castaway Club Party by Captain Tom as a place people would like to cruise. I also heard from other CM that there are rumors of them possibly going to Alaska during in season once the new ships arrive. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as we'd love to go there too.

My girls lasted in the the club about 5 minutes on the first day and never went back. They enjoyed sticking with us and hanging out in the room with Erica! We did get to meet up with Kim and Natasha in Cozumel and my girls really enjoyed hanging out with Natasha at Mr. Sanchos. We are currently going through withdrawals, I wonder how long that will last as we probably won't cruise until the new ships come out (unless Bruce and Carolyn can convince me otherwise ;) )

My kids spent alot of time with us as well!
My little guy only spent 2 hours at Flounders and my kids were only in their clubs for maybe 5 hours each for the entire cruise! There are so many things to do and so many things clash in the schedules that it was hard for them to decide on what to do...and then the pool areas were big draws for them too!
We loved spending time together as a family although my dd was especially challenging towards the end of the cruise...her and my dh were butting heads:confused3

ohhh, shoulda invited Rita so she wasn't up our hineys the entire then- I guess. LOL She rarely went to the lab- as usual. I can't figure out why. Usually if we like talk her into going- she ends up having a blast doing whatever activity they are doing but then wants to leave when the next activity is about to start. If we were to talk her into staying- she'd enjoy that activity too! Can't really figure out what the deal is- she's outgoing, personable, usually makes friends within seconds of meeting others, not shy at all, etc. She says she "just wants to be with us". Which is fine but you know sometimes I'd like to do something adult or just have a moment without kiddos. I homeschool- she's with me 24/7 at home too! LOL Ah well... we want her to be happy with her vacation too so we don't do much "prodding" to try to get her to go to the lab- and this cruise we did eventually just let her sign herself out. We got tired of taking her and having her page us before we even got back to the room or wherever we were going. So we let her leave and go to the room if she wanted. LOL I really have to make more of an effort for her to "get to know" kids on our cruise- before the cruise- so maybe she'll spend some time around KIDS during the cruise- instead of just with ole mom and dad. :lmao:
Yes, we're having withdrawals too.... and we're not crusing until Sept of next year- barring anything happening where we end up not able to go or can't afford it by then or something, ofcourse. So basically that's tentatively Sept 2010. We usually have to wait up to 2yrs between our cruises- this May 30th cruise right after the Sept repo was a fluke- only because it was such a discount and sooooooooo much cheaper than the Baltic (2010) that we'd originally moved our dates to. Now we're spoiled and wanna cruise every 6mo or something I guess. haha

We had a great time too.
I am having serious withdrawal here, as are the kids and so just sitting here on the DIS boards wishing for a miracle to occur so I could get back on the ship for even just a few days :)
My kiddos made some great friends and are so lucky that some of them live so close they can hang out frequently!
Thanks to everyone for everything, from the great FE gifts to the Crocs for my Bella, to the nice conversations in the hallways and poolside. Was a great time for all and hope to cruise with some of you again in the future!
My plan is to be super sweet to dh and see if he will book me something soon :) He has been working in Illinois and I haven't seen him since we got back from the cruise!

You and me both!
Well I'm not working late- I'm actually killing time playing chuzzle. I played that with the kids in the Lab and Oceanquest and now I'm playing it at home. I think I'm addicted to it. Is there a 12-step program for chuzzle addiction? I may need it! LOL
But I do wish I was back on the cruise! Time warp back a few weeks? Who's with me? hehe

How is everyone?
So hot here in Florida. More than normal hot, lol.
Was wondering if anyone from our May 30th group is going to do the transatlantic crossing in April? I am thinking to book this one for part of my gang (obviously the big kids can't miss school) and wondering if any of our great DIS buddies are planning to be onboard.
Having such bad withdrawal from DCL that we are going on back to back Wonder cruises July 5-12.
Happy thoughts to everyone.

We had rebooked onboard on the Wonder for Nov. 2010 with my in-laws but bumped out to May 22 on the Dream in 2011 as it was cheaper! Plus then we can see POTC 4 while onboard! I actually chose to book GTY11C's in the hopes of getting upgraded again!
