Does the level of accommodations you are trying to book influence how easy or hard it is to reserve what you want? For instance, if I wanted to bank points and get a grand villa (SSR, or anywhere) every second year to take the whole family the Sunday through Friday after Thanksgiving, would wanting the big place make it easier or harder (or impossible) to book?

If you do a day-by-day reservation at the 11-month point, you should be fine.

Its not the size of the accommodations per se its the relative supply/demand. For example, standard view studio's at BWV are harder to book than BW view studios.
However, I'd agree with the previous poster that grand villa's are especially hard to book. That's because there are so few of them.

Level of accomodations is not so important as the number of the type of accomodations in the resort. There are only a limited number of GV's and thus those go fast at the 11 month window and day to day reserving is recommended for those. Others that usually require early booking include standard or boardwalk biew at BWV (any size room), concierge at AKV (there are only 5 2BR lock-offs), likely value point cost at AKV because of low number of rooms and lower point cost.
A second issue is when you want to go and the time you note, just after Thanskgiving, happens to be one of the highest DVC demand times of the year and thus reserving 11 months out for almost anything is recommended.

that 2009 will be the last year we can do anything the week after Thanksgiving, anyway, as the two older grandsons will be in school. So it looks like early June, or some other not peak time.

Point requirements go up on June 10, so schedule your stay to end by that date. This is the first year we are staying past June 9, so we are using a few more points this trip.

Early June will be easier to book than the week after Thanskgiving, but you still should book as soon as your window opens.
