It won't be long though. There are some parent's at Alex's games that act like they are playing for a college championship and she is only 11. Alex's coach is very laid back and wants to make sure the girls are having fun and learning about the game and doesn't run plays or anything so Alex's team has lost every game since the other coaches are much more set on winning. I'm not sure which is better because Alex and her team mates are getting discouraged. But she still loves the game.

I was surprised how laid back I was last fall when I coached the football team. I'm usually very competitive (go figure, right) and it didn't come out.

The boys played great together and listened to me when we needed to make changes. I think we just gelled so well, it was an easy time.

Our govenor has decided to cut millions out of the education budget, all the while making comments that he wants to make teachers responsible for what scores their students test at. Unfortunately he doesn't take into consideration the huge migrant population, the even larger EL population, and the special ed population. Doesn't seem fair to me.

We have the small town problem. Everyone knows everyone and positions to get their kid on "the" team. The political who's who is always at play. THe muckety mucks stack their team and put a couple of token, quiet "nobodies" on it to justify themselves. We just try to stay out of the mess and let our DD and DS play. (I know that sounds cynical but it has been happening for years!)

DD is finally old enough to play on the one school teams now. She is decent but always sweats through tryouts. She finds out tomorrow whether she made the softball team. This sounds mean but we keep trying to count girls to see if the cut will go deep enough to get her.:sad1:

NCLB--same boat! While "they" play the numbers testing game, our students suffer. We're currently getting trained on all these new initiatives without the materials to implement. We're afraid that since we're trained the teachers will be blamed when the iniative doesn't work miracles. Our principal is wonderful and gets us what she can, but that's as far as our support goes. (Our last trainer got $6,000 per day plus travel $. I googled her and found out much more about her fancy horse farm than her reading expertise!) :sad2: :guilty: :sad2:

First, thanks to all of you who continue to ask about my dad and Spencer.

My dad is coming home on Saturday! :yay: The nursing home decided that there is nothing further they can do for him and that he has improved enough to come home!!   (And the fact that Medicare won't pay for him to be there anymore). :goodvibes Chuck and Tony are going to set everything up for him tonight. Hospital bed, additional railings for the basement stairs, & walker ramp outside. He is so excited to finally come home. He never thought he'd ever see his house again. Now we just have to get him to move from that lousy neighborhood they live in.

Spencer is also going home on March 11th. :yay: He still has a few problems from the brain injuries but again, Medicade is done paying his way too. He will be on permanent disability too. He has come such a long way and looks so much better. He lost 65 pounds after the accident and put 70 back on since Christmas!! He never wants to ride motorcycle again. The outline of his body is still on the street where the accident happened. They must have used paint instead of chalk. He also said he will NEVER drive past that spot...ever!! He will live with his mom at an apartment (she moved out of her house because of the recent attack/burglary) until July and will move with her to Arizona then.

Thanks again for all your pm's everyone, the thoughts, prayers, and dust stuff and for all of you who contributed to the making of his cd's. He absolutely loved them all. :lovestruc

:grouphug: :grouphug: From us to all of you! :grouphug: :grouphug:

That is all great news. Feel free to pass our info onto Spencer and his mother if they need anything while they are in AZ.

"e" equals mc^2

"pi"r^2= circle area
2"pi"r= circle circumfrence (sp?)

1/2b*h=triangle area

PV=FV/(1+i)^n (present value)
PVA=A/i * [1 - 1/(1+i)^n] (present value of an annuity)
FVA=A * [(1+i)^n - 1]/i (future value of an annuity)

Yeah, and you don't have the luxury of the 0% on the Disney Visa. I probably would have let it slide as well.

You figure we have about 2 more months until it has to be paid. Then at least another month until you have to pay your credit card, so lets call it 3 months.

$60 over 3 months is equal to the interest on approx. $7,400 at 3.25%. If your balance is over that, you're better off holding.

If we figure you could stretch the final payment to the credit card company to 4 months (depending on the timing you cycle and when the pay in full date is), it would only be about $5,500 for the threshold.

As for WDW at Xmas, it depends on who in our family you talk to. If it is Suz, we are on the Definite list.

Although, we will only be doing 1 day in WDW and it will be at the MK.

We'll probably come down for about 5 nights, but I'm looking at the price of hotel ON the beach in Clearwater and they are only about $160+ a night. We may spend a couple nights out there as well.

Plus, we may go in and out of Tampa again. Seems easier than MCO (cheaper too).

We probably won't stay on WDW (unless some DVCers want to sell some points - what are the number of points needed at that time?). We are looking at LBV (DTD) area and I-Drive. I think this will be more so a get some sun and visit with our great DIS friends trip.

What, no tomato soup with that grilled cheese sandwich?

I was just reading an article in our local paper about a restaurant that just opened in Milwaukee that specializes in grilled cheese sandwiches. They make them several different ways. One of their popular ones is grilled cheese with sloppy joe inside (they call it the Cheesy Joe). Looks interesting and a couple of us from work may drive down to it for lunch sometime. For the Milwaukee DISers, it is south of the stadium on Miller Parkway.

The Bucks game and dinner were alot of fun. It was great to see you guys again! Thanks for the tickets and the seats were fine, we could see everything great, it was just fun to be there, especially with such nice company.

Well I think Suz should definitely be the decision maker on the WDW trip!!When I booked our tickets on Midwest Tampa was actually more expensive than Orlando and they didn't have the Fri. afternoon flight that they have into Orlando either. I sure was glad I was able to use frequent flier miles for our tickets! Sorry we don't have any extra DVC points, in fact we are splitting our stay between a 1 bedroom for the first half of the trip and a studio for the second half. The points are low until the 24th and then they jump to the highest point category so we are borrowing from next years points too. I am thinking of getting us annual passes and then going back for our summer trip in June 09. I'm not sure how much time we'll spend in the parks either, I figure we'll start our day there early and see how the crowds are but there is so much other stuff to do as well as just hanging out at the pool and checking out all the Christmas decorations.

WOW WOW! Mind you, the taxes were 70 Euros but still. I don't think we could fly to Saskatchewan for 84 Euros :lmao: Not that I would WANT to fly to Saskatchewan

Hi Shelley Yep we're going, we have our plane tickets, our reservations with DVC and rental car all set already! We have been to WDW in Dec. and the decorations were awesome, but Rachel was too young to even remember them, but we've never been right over Christmas before. I know there will be crowds but I've been doing my research on how best to avoid them. Are you guys thinking of going for Christmas too? Wow this is turning into quite a good sized group of us

Hi everybody

We're back from the hospital..

It was all a bit wierd actually...

They did warn us that the tests are NOT considered accurate but gave an "indication" to which he was allergic to...

Brazil nut came back negative:banana:
Almond came back negative:banana:
Hazelnut came back negative:banana:   .........

Peanut - came back grade 1:confused3 - this is what I dont understand:confused3 ... when he was tested last time (age 3 1/2) he was off the scale and graded as high as you can get... the grades are 1 to 4 - he was considered 4+...now he's a 1:confused3 ... they all told me that he wouldnt grow out of it due to its severity at the other clinic.... I dont see how he could have dropped to such a low grading from as high as it gets to a "minor" allergy in just 3 1/2 years:confused3

I would love to believe the tests but I'm really concerned that they've got it wrong.

Oh, and they didnt test him for cashews:rolleyes: :sad2: - no chinese for me tonight then:sad2:

So, all in all, I'm not sure what to think! Am I being pessimistic and over cautious etc:confused3 , should I believe the new tests:confused3

I'm more confused than ever:sad2: I'm off to search the internet to see if theres something I havent already read:rolleyes: - I doubt it but its worth a try.

 Karen sorry you didn't get more of a clear answer. I was really hoping and praying you would have  Have you learned any more in your research on the internet?

So to top the day off, and this is where I need the KK'ers help. Sean's uncle found Sean's grandmother face down with a thready pulse last night. They took her to the hospital, and her kidneys had failed. So now she is on dialysis. She is in her early 80's and has diabetes, so I have a feeling she wasn't taking her meds the way she should. They are trying to get her stablized right now so they can move her to another facility.
So...if you could say an extra prayer and and a little more pixie dust, I know Sean would appreciate it.

I don't think my 2 sisters that live in the area are too happy with us for planning a trip right over Christmas but our parents are dead as are Al's and we usually get together on Christmas and an additional weekend day sometime around Christmas so we'll just miss the actual Christmas Day gathering if we even continue it. Both my brothers are easy going and they said we'll just get together a different day like we usually do anyways. As my family continues to keep getting bigger as my nieces and nephew get married and have children it is hard to get us all together anyways. There were 33 of us at my sister's this past Christmas and that was with 2 missing because my nephew's baby was sick so his wife stayed home with the baby. It's a good thing my sister has a big house!

Which is better - dollar alamo or budget car rental?

we'd be collecting from mco.

We always rent from Alamo. Dollar usually has better deals but the cars are a lot older and don't seem to be taken care of. Just my opinion though.

We have been renting from Alamo lately too. We used to rent from Avis all the time but the last few times Alamo has had a much better price plus Al likes to be able to pick out what car he wants from the ones that are available, that way he can sit in them and decide which one gives him the best headroom. With Avis they would "assign" you to a specific car.

Not all unpacked yet. Rob had duty on Saturday (7am-7am Sunday) so we weren't able to move around the heavy stuff. Since I'll be here 3 and a half years, I am taking my time to put everything away. I'll even paint some walls, too. The house is bigger than the one I had before and I only have one neighbor as of yet. The other houses are still vacant. Honestly, it's a great house to be in for our last years in military life. It is new and I have NEVER lived in anything other than substandard quarters when it has to do with military housing.

I may look that route then.

There is an Embassy Suites in Lake Buena Vista that has a breakfast each morning and a manager reception (drinks/snack) from 5-7 each night. It is not much more than the Moderates (only about $226) and it would be a two room suite.

I also saw the Hilton. I think that was $269.

If we only plan on 1 day in the parks, I'm thinking I don't need to be in WDW. Although, I've never not stayed in WDW when there.

Our first night in Orlando we are staying off property (we don't get in until after 6) so I have been checking prices. Dreams Unlimited looked like they had some good prices for before Christmas at a number of different Orlando hotles including the Dolphin and Swan and actually for Gaylord Palms too. I am tempted to book Gaylord Palms but for now we I have us booked at a Fairfield Inn on I-Drive so that we accrue more Marriott points.

Yep! Trying to decide when best to go. I am looking at 12/18 - 12/23 or 12/27 -1/2/09. We need to be home for Christmas Eve and Day.

yes I am from the Boston area. yes you need to go to the cape, Christmas tree shop, duck ride, some circle tour. Walt will help me remember what you need to do while there. He is a good tour guide. You are going at the right time. Diane

I loved Boston when we went... we did the duck tour and went into the christmas shop. I was pregnant with Ellis at the time and I bought an ornament of a preganant lady from that shop. We hang it on the tree every year and it reminds us of our great holiday there.

No, ask Karen how many times they each/both screamed/giggled on the phone. I wasn't there, but I'm sure they did.

I told you yesterday....princess: 's dont squeel:goodvibes

Karen I have extra coupons for car rentals from our Entertainment book. If you'd like me to mail them to you just PM me and I'll send them to you if you think they would help.

My quote for 14 days comes to $440 approx for a 4 door basic car. I think thats quite good:confused3 We usually get our car through Virgin the tour op, but we found they were much more expensive so we're sorting out our own to save a few $$

took presents for her but decided not to take any for each other....
sure enough, around xmas day my pop tart says "i want presents"
so i snuck down to the gift shop and bought her a disney holiday watch.

What's better than a Christmas present from Disney while at Disney :thumbsup2

Actually no presents for Al and I is not very hard. We usually say our vacations or some other big thing for the house (like the big screen TV Al finally got for his upcoming birthday next month) are our gifts for each other and then we get something inexpensive that is "from Rachel". I'm just very, very happy to be going to WDW for Christmas this year  Rachel wasn't too happy at first when we told her that this trip is her present, but I'm sure I'll be getting her a few things in addition ;)

Thanks for mentioning these other things Mike! We saw the Osborne lights years ago when they were actually on the backlot. I've heard they're even better now, we can't wait to see them again! We also want to do the Candlelight Processional at EPCOT and see the different "Santas" at all the countries. How about the Animal Kingdom, do they do much for Christmas? I guess we will be in the parks not just in the mornings but at night for some of these things too, more and more I am thinking of getting annual passes. Then it doesn't feel so bad if we just spend part of a day in the parks. Also all the resorts are decorated beautifully so we are planning on doing some resort hopping to check out the decorations.

Tell me about the jump in car rental prices. I can't believe it is $300 for 5 days right after Xmas. Tampa is about $50-$60 less. Oh, and the $300 doesn't include all the crazy taxes and fees they throw on there.

Guess I won't get $5.89 a day before taxes like I did in Feb.

DS LOVES the people mover. He could just sit and ride it all day. I would only hit about a couple big rides and that is it. We'd have to do Buzz for DS, as well as Splash, Big Thunder for me, Haunted Mansion for Suz, and Space if it is not too nuts. I will probably skip Fantasyland rides all together this trip.

I forgot about the Osborne lights and the Epcot decorations. Maybe a second day, going to Epcot during the day to see the different lands and then Studios that night for the Lights. Don't think we'll get on RnR at Studios though. However, if we go to the Studios, get the fast pass for RnR, head over to Epcot to view the decorations and then back to Studios that night, that may work.

I think AK, one of DS's favorites, will be sacrificed this trip. :sad2:

I'll even paint some walls, too. The house is bigger than the one I had before and I only have one neighbor as of yet. The other houses are still vacant. I also purchased Tour Guide Mike to see what kind of tips he gives (there's a link to it on the Theme Park board here on the DIS) I am also thinking of buying a book called Walt Disney World Peak Seasons: Maximizing your Disney Vacation by Scott Donahue It's available from Amazon or Barnes & Noble on the web. When you go to their homepage scroll down towards the bottum and they have a section Orlando hotels near Disney. I'm still tempted to book the Gaylord Palms and see what that is all about. Wow the $268.40 I have for 9 nights is including all the taxes and fees. The only problem I have is I booked the car rental before the tickets on Midwest (they were available earlier and it was a good rate, I'm glad I booked it when I did) and we were originally thinking we'd take the evening flight so I have it reserved that we'd pick the car up at 10:30pm but then we decided to go with the afternoon flight so we'll actually be picking the car up around 6:30pm. When I try and change my reservation on line it looks like it will change the price to what the rates currently are at. I need to call Alamo and see if they can change the time for me without changing my rate. Otherwise we'll have alot of time to kill in the airport that first night.

I feel like I need to book our room now. I am scared of being shut out! I can always cancel it if I have to.

That's why we jumped on it so fast. I would really prefer staying at POFQ, but 15 nights gets rather pricey.

Pop Century will suit our needs just fine. Besides, every time we've gone down at Christmas, we've always found discounts on hotels for passholders prior to leaving. If we come across one, we can always change our reservation.

We'll keep you posted, if we do. :thumbsup2

Lets go to FL

Hi Andy

Hi There Ed----we were scheduled to leave for Florida next week, but Angelina threw such a fit about going that I just cancelled the trip. Hazel and I will be going down in May while Angelina goes to Chicago for five days with her high school band and choir.

We did that a few years ago. Had to split up our stay and had 3 ressies. One before Christmas, one during and one after. Woody said I need to keep it under $200 per night. So we could do either Pop or POFQ.

Right now the price is....

Some nights are $129, some are $139, and Jan. 1, 2, & 3 are $84.

So I figure we'll see a discount between now and then. :goodvibes
