Well off to get ready for work. Hope everyone has a great day!
Jeff get those taxes done, and pay off that cruise! Did you get the email about the $5 per Mexican port they are charging for now? I didn't get it, but I know a KKer that posted it on the darkside page. This is for all cruises that go to a Mexican port, transition, western, and the ones that go to Costa Maya

We always rent from Alamo. Dollar usually has better deals but the cars are a lot older and don't seem to be taken care of. Just my opinion though.
I always thought everyone's cars were about the same age.
Is Dollar onsite at MCO? Maybe it is Thrifty who I'm thinking of that is offsite.

Hello Andy.
Enjoying the weather again today?
We're just posting about the DIS meet in WDW over Xmas this year.
You coming down? If not, can I rent your place? Moderates are $210 and Budgets are $140. Those are usually the prices for Deluxe and Moderates, respectively.
Can you tell I travel off-season?

I'm sure that talk will be a short one. Like I said, you are so there.
Weather here is cloudy too. Suz was saying something about a system coming in from the west that they need to watch the track of. It could be night and day depending on how far north or south it goes. They've missed on the last 3 predictions.
We're at 80.5" of snow for this season so far. 10th snowiest. If we get 3 more inches, we will move all the way up to 4th place.
The snowiest was either 107.9" or 109.7". I can't remember which it was. I don't see us getting that much more.
At least the warm temps over the past couple days (only about 32-40, but warm enough to melt snow), really got rid of a lot of the snow cover.
Spring is around the corner. :cool1:

Yeah, Brett announced this morning. I'm surprised since they would have a shot next year and with the draft being a deep one this year, they could have picked up the people they needed.
Wish I bet the under on the number of wins next year before today. I'm guessing 8-8 at best.

I may look that route then.
There is an Embassy Suites in Lake Buena Vista that has a breakfast each morning and a manager reception (drinks/snack) from 5-7 each night. It is not much more than the Moderates (only about $226) and it would be a two room suite.
I also saw the Hilton. I think that was $269.
If we only plan on 1 day in the parks, I'm thinking I don't need to be in WDW. Although, I've never not stayed in WDW when there.

I'm sure Suz will be all over this one.
I will have to wait on flights. Only Midwest has prices out right now and it is obnoxious (sp?). I will have to wait for AirTran to release their fares. They only have through the 10th of December right now.
When do Air tran release more dates? Our flights are out for Oct 09 already
That's what I'm going to tell Suz - we're cutting back on Xmas presents then.
If you're staying on WDW property, you could start making some door signs. :rotfl: (would just look funny if you're staying off property)
No disney property for us - did it once - Neil wont do it again and we found the rooms at the All stars teeny compared to those on I Drive and LBV

That is a good idea too! We have annual passes to the Anheiser Busch theme parks. And we will ahve annual passes to Disney. It would only cost us air, food, and lodging.
Sadly, those three will cost you a pretty penny compared to the passes. :sad2:

I know! So not fair! I feel that the US is in the stone ages when it comes to holiday leave and maternity leave!
You could always move. :rolleyes1
Maternity leave is 12 weeks - that's 3 months. What do you want, 18 years until they go to college?
Vacation pay comes down to where you work. My company gives 2 weeks for years 0-3, 3 weeks years 3-6, 4 weeks years 6-15, and 5 weeks years 15+. We also get 2 personal days, 2-3 floating holidays (depends on when the holidays fall that we close for. We get 10 total between "hard" and "floating"), and 6 sick days. I then negotiated another 12 days into my comp package.
Just gotta find the right employer. I dont' think anything should be mandated.
Now just wait with your response until I get my flame retardent suit on.

We've stayed at a lot of them on I Drive and 2 in LBV - A good budget in LBV is Fairfield Inn - stayed there last Oct.

Jeff, sorry to correct you, but maternity leave is not always 12 weeks. :sad2:
FMLA gives you 12 weeks of unpaid time off within 1 year for illness or to care for a new child. However, if a mom to be has to be on bedrest, etc. that is included in the 12 weeks.
Also, as with everything else, this is not paid. I got 5 1/2 weeks paid at 60% when DS was born, then took 6 weeks unpaid.
I am having my next child in Norway - 1 year paid maternity leave. ;)

They are even talking about taking our holidays away from us to "better serve our patients" Who wants to have a pap smear on Thanksgiving I ask you! As for maternity leave we get 6-8 wks. I do get 3 wks of vacation but that is because I have been here for 10 years. And you are right about all the holidays shoved in there like July 4th, Memorial & Labor days.
It seems like you have a very nice leave package! Sounds like what Woody is leaving. He will be paid out for 418 hrs of leave in his last paycheck. Who says it has to be paid? The law gives you 12 weeks off. That is the problem with society - they want everything, but don't want to work or pay for it.
Suz took off all 12 weeks. We got bascially nothing for the 9 weeks that the doc signed the note for (she had a c-section), so it wasn't like it was fully paid. The time with our son was more important than the money.
If you are on bedrest and go beyond 12 weeks, which is just shy of 90 days, your Long-term Disability will kick in - if it is medical related.
As for going to Norway for your next kid, like I said, you can always move.

Nice to have those 418 hours paid out. I had 288 (36 days) paid out from my last employer. Unfortunately, when we went to 5 weeks at 15 years here, we took away the 4 week carry-forward of Vacation time. We can only carry 2 weeks forward now. I always liked having a month of time in the bank in case anything happened. I don't know what I will do with all that time. Woody was able to carry over as much as he wanted up to 420 hrs in the bank. He was the same way. Save it for a rainy day. With his new job he can carry 1 wk so that will be ok. Mine is a use it or loose it system. Which sucks for me as I am the only person in my office who does this job and it is impossible to take leave. I made them carry over a week last year because I couldn't get a supervisor to cover me to take the time. My Administrator was not happy. But I should not be penalized for their lack of coverage. I have already put my time in for this year and next! Lets see them try and stop me!! :cool2:

Don't have to tell me how expensive kids are. Daycare alone was $45K for DS up to age 4 1/2. I could have bought 3 or 4 DVC's for that.
That doesn't include all the other cr@p you have to pay for. I think the days of $200k-$250k to raise a kid to age 18 are long gone.

Good Evening Everyone.
Jen so sorry to hear about your basement and plumbing issues, here's some dust that things get fixed real soon.pixiedust:
Shelley I hate days like that. Started out this morning in my office. We are year round so we have year round type summer school. I had 4 classes of it on my side, yet the other office who have 3 full time people, pulled my librarian to help them with the parents at their desk. Meanwhile I have 6 kids, answering the phone, and have teachers asking me questions, all at the same time, and I am by myself. Neither one of us were happy.
So to top the day off, and this is where I need the KK'ers help. Sean's uncle found Sean's grandmother face down with a thready pulse last night. They took her to the hospital, and her kidneys had failed. So now she is on dialysis. She is in her early 80's and has diabetes, so I have a feeling she wasn't taking her meds the way she should. They are trying to get her stablized right now so they can move her to another facility.
So...if you could say an extra prayer and and a little more pixie dust, I know Sean would appreciate it.

We just toured a different camp for DS for this summer. He was at the Y the last two years. Check into that for your DS. It looks like most have a program.
We just wanted to try the Boys and Girls Club camp this year. Closer to home and they teach them stuff as opposed to just "babysitting" them. Their dates usually don't work out for us, but with the Repo in August and us flying in Suz' friend which is like a grandma to him for the first 2 weeks in June, we thought we'd give it a shot.
As for the cost of daycare, I don't care which side of the isle you vote on, they all say they are for the working family. Then why do they cap the daycare reimbursement under Sec 125 at $5,000 and cap the deduction on the 1040 at $6,000 if you have 2 or more kids? Sorry, at $5,000, that is only $96 a week for child care for one child. Like to know who is watching the kid for that kind of money. They haven't moved that amount in well over 10 years if not 20.
Here is the email that was posted on the Darkside
**************************URGENT****************** *******

The daycare DS goes to now (which I love and was a godsend when he was 1-3 especially) does have a summer/before/after school program, but I am also looking at our YMCA. DS is so active, and it looks like they do a lot of sports, swimming, field trips, etc. I picked up a brochure for the Y program this year (just to see, he wouldn't go until next summer) and the cost isn't horrible. $90 per week plus field trips (which range from $6-$20 per week, only 1 week is $20).
All I know is come September, we'll be able to breathe a bit easier....

I will make sure we call sometime when DS is around.
We have a ton of calling cards that work internationally, so maybe one weekend will give you a jingle.

I didn't get any this year :sad2: I happened to have 1 day with willpower, and that's the day the order form went around the office!
My god daughter was selling them and I always have to buy them! Wouldn't want her to not get a patch or anything! She usually is the top seller for her troop. I pass it out in my office as does Woody. What's nice is that my bestfriend brought my office cookies to me. She used to work here and just passed them out and collected the money. Now I have to get Woody's cookies to him. I was a little worried he would be leaving before they came in but everything worked out fine.

Only $90 a week? :scared1: We were paying $196 a week last year for summer camp.

Yes, we paid when the £/$ rate was good. We also booked our car from the airport yesterday, so I think that's about everything done.
We are so far from done. We need Hotel in DL and possible another the night before we sail, car rental, trip insurance, xfers to/from the ports.
Guess I should start doing some of that now that we are inside 6 months.

I know - I thought that was pretty good! That is the member rate, so if you add in the $66/month we pay to belong to the Y....it's still a pretty good deal. I think the daycare is $125/week for the summer program....
Ok, well I really should get back to work. I'll try to log on tonight if anyone's around. If not, I'll be :happytv:

I'm up to 5 weeks vacation, 3 personal days, 13 paid holidays, and I get 15 sick days a year. But what sick time isn't used goes into a sick bank, then the township will bye back 45% of what hours we have in the sick bank when we retire at the rate of pay we are making at retirement. My foreman retired a few years back and got a check for over $14,000 from his sick bank.

Would you fly or drive down?
Once you look at the time to drive and the cost of gas, it may be cheaper even with the inflated airfares.
"If" we come down, we would most likely drive down. I would like to take two weeks and I would need to have my car since we will be about an hour north of the WDW area.

Who the heck schedules classes the week between Xmas and NY's?
Looks like you'll have more time after those classes than before. Unfortunately, unless airfares dictate otherwise, we will be down between the holidays. Although, NYE in FL would be cool. Karen doesn't fly back until the 31st, so maybe coming down on the 28th or 29th would work.

Not sure how my parents did it with 4 kids and only my dad working. Although, my vacations were going to Green Bay and seeing my grandparents.
I didn't get on a plane until I was 23. We never went out of the state either.

Does anyone know, do the hotels right next to Downtown Disney, I believe they are "Good Neighbor" hotels, get transportation to the parks?
Is it WDW transportation?
Could you pick the bus up from DTD or do you have to show a resort KTTW card?
Yes Jeff, Sean and I did this last July. Free bus service to all the parks and Downtown Disney.
Every place has a designated parking/pickup/drop off area.
Can't remember what or if we even showed any card or id to get on?
Buses usually run something like on the 1/4 or 1/2 hour times.
You just have to remember which bus goes to your hotel, there are a few and
the buses look the same.
But we got a great deal through my travel agent and stayed at some hotel by Downtown Disney, it worked out fine and the hotel was great! Sorry I can't remember which one it was.

We can get something coordinated on the BOB site.
It should be fun.
IF we come down, it will only be for a few days. However, I was just looking at the hotel costs for Clearwater and they are pretty reasonable compared to WDW. Might put a couple of nights in over there. Especially if we are flying in and/or out of Tampa.

Hi Robin, I sent that post and was called away to do whatever.
Today is DD 13th birthday. She is at softball tryouts and we are getting ready for the grandparents to stop by for presents and dessert. She is hoping for money toward a laptop. I hope she gets it because I am tired of sharing my work computer.

Only $90 a week? :scared1: We were paying $196 a week last year for summer camp.
They haven't moved that amount in well over 10 years if not 20.
dont forget about rachel!!!

Yeah, Brett announced this morning. I'm surprised since they would have a shot next year and with the draft being a deep one this year, they could have picked up the people they needed.

We actually found flying in and out of Tampa to be cheaper, less headaches and the car rentals are less as well (we always get a car).
We went to Clearwater Beach for DS's first time to FL. We stopped through DTD on the way back to MCO and that is when Suz said she wants to come back to WDW. Well, when we got home, there was an advertisement for the 7 nights for the price of 4. So we went that October 2003. Now we've done something Disney at least twice a year ever since.

It won't be long though. There are some parent's at Alex's games that act like they are playing for a college championship and she is only 11. Alex's coach is very laid back and wants to make sure the girls are having fun and learning about the game and doesn't run plays or anything so Alex's team has lost every game since the other coaches are much more set on winning. I'm not sure which is better because Alex and her team mates are getting discouraged. But she still loves the game.
