DD is too young to snorkel, I'm not real interested in any boating, DH is allergic to horses and there is no way I'd risk my life parasailling.....SO.....all I really want to do is hang out on a nice beach and get a little shopping in.
Should we rent a car or take a taxi? Where do you find out where to go and directions if you are driving yourselves? Is there anything you need to know about driving in other countries? I'll admit, it seems a little scary, probaby because DH's driving scares me in the U.S.!

Make your own. I am assuming you are doing eastern carib.? On St. Maarten, there is a beach right near the port, take the water taxi to it.

On St. Thomas, you can take a taxi to several beaches or resorts on your own.

If you are going to Nassau, you can go to Atlantis on your own!

If you do decide to rent a car at one of the islands, the driving's a bit easier at St Maarten than at St Thomas. They drive on the right side of the road at St Maarten, but the left side of the road at St Thomas, and the roads are steeper, narrower, and more twisting at St Thomas. But there are rental car locations at both islands.

I have links to web sites with maps at my web site.
