Last week I booked an April trip to Universal and Sea World for myself and my daughter - a young woman who has Down Syndrome. We've visited WDW 4 times over the last 15 years and I thought trying new parks would be nice for this vacation.
But as I read the posts here I'm worried. She can't do 'thrill rides' or ones that will bounce her around too much (neck issues); scary, gory venues and very loud noises upset her (and me!). Folks have written that even the rides with stationary seating seem to have drawbacks (too close to the screen etc).
At WDW we enjoy stage/theatre-type shows (Lion King, Muppets, Beauty and the Beast) and the more 'gentle' rides (Spaceship Earth, Safari, Small World, Peter Pan).
I would be grateful for advise from those of you who are familiar with the US/IOA/SW parks and the rides/shows.
Thank you.

Our daughter is 20 and also has Down syndrome. Universal is her favorite. But she is fortunate enough to not have any physical limitations, so she is a thrill ride junkie. However, she was not always that way. She used to be scared of Small World. Now she thinks it lame and much prefers Hulk.

Over on the studios side, she loves the Beetlejuice show, a show with loud rock and roll performed by the classic monsters. However, there are a few bangs in it. There is also the Blues Brothers show which is a fun musical show.

In the kids area, there is the Barney show and ET that is fun and definitely not scary. There is also a very small coaster, which is the coaster we started our daughter out on.

The Jimmy Neutron show would probably be fun. But you might want to try the stationary seats first. It is a simulator ride where you follow Jimmy Neutron through many of the classic Nick cartoons. You visit the Rug Rats house, Sponge Bob, Fairly Odd Parents, etc.

Shrek might also be a good choice. Again, might want to try the stationary seats first and then graduate to the others if your daughter can handle it. Great 3-D movie with the Shrek characters.

The Animal Actors live show might be fun for your daughter. It is a show with different animals performing.

MIB is one of our daughter's favorites. It is kind of like Buzz, but on steroids.

On the IOA side, Suessland is great. You can ride One Fish, Blue Fish - similar to Dumbo, but with the added fun of trying to duck the squirting water. Cat In The Hat is fun, along with the Caro-Suess-el (a merry-go-round with Dr. Suess characters) and the high-in-the-sky trolley - a gentle trolley ride that gives great views of the parks.

The flying Unicorn is also a smaller rollercoaster that is just a tad bigger than the one over in the Studios.

The Jurassic Park discovery center is also great. It is a hands on interactive area where you learn about dinosaurs and can watch a raptor hatch.

I think you will find plenty to keep you busy and entertained at Universal.

And Sea World has lots of fun shows to watch.

Thanks so much for the info. I think we'll start off with the tame experiences and see if we get braver as the days go by!
I wish it was April already!! We woke up to yet another 12" snowfall :-(
If you have any advice about Sea World I'd love to hear it.

At USO You forgot E.T., its one of the tamest and gentle of rides. Curious George should also be pleasing to her, its a water playground. The train in Seussland would also be nice it just goes around Seussland. The Carousel also is nice. I believe that Barney also has a show, never seen it but I assume its tame enough for her. Hope you have a wonderful trip. HTH :thumbsup2
