Laura,
That is what I am leaning towards doing since the goal is to cut costs, but Iwanted to make sure I was not crazy for giving up the free dining? It seems so wrong! LOL
There are times when the free dining would be hard to pass up. A Mommy with 4 young children at WDW isn't one of them!!! (trust me!!)

Cool! Girl trip, early November 2007! This fall is a little busy. :teeth:
Any other Moms that can take a Guilt Trip?
Hmm, what's the guilt part? Because we're going without kids? I've gone solo before and the funny thing is- not an ounce of guilt while I'm gone. Okay maybe when I'm on the PHONE with them but that's pretty much it- the rest of the time I'm like "oh me oh my I'm in heaven... no mouths to wipe, no picking up after other little people who are SO lazy, no back talking, no referreeing fights, no driving everyone to and fro, no nothing but fun!
Matter of fact- I think I'm about due for another trip like that. LOL The only problem is DH's hours are different now that he's on days instead of rotating shifts. Before I could go anytime I wanted- as long as I worked it around his schedule to when he was off and then going on midday shift where he could take kids to/from school and the youngest was in private preschool and such. NOW his hours are such that he couldn't take them to school nor pick them up! I'd have to find a babysitter for before and after school. And now he doesn't get 5-7 days off in a row, he's lucky to get weekends off sometimes. (Fri-Sun is overtime for him now though). wahhhhhhh I don't foresee any solo trips for me for awhile unless I find a babysitter. That's not likely to happen. We never have a babysitter to do anything without the kids either. :( Haven't for many years.
I'd join ya if I could! How's about a girl trip CRUISE with kids in the club/lab? Will that work? LOL
(as if I could talk DH into staying home while we went on a cruise without him. Not hardly! VERY easy to go to WDW without him as that's not really his thing- but a cruise.. forget it. He'd wanna go)
Amanda- if it were me, I'd stay with the original plan of POP and free dining plan and eat and eat and eat. Can you really feed all of you all those days for under $200 without a major cramp in your time, etc. to do so? Plus you weren't serious about eating ramon noodles every day were you? (although if you were serious- Robert would want to stow away with ya and probably consider that his dream vacation LOL) Can't you bank or rent your points? Did you just join DVC recently or something?
Ps. if you're taking Nathan- you're a better woman than I am. LOL I've gone with the kids by myself before- but the youngest was 4 at the time. (almost 5) When they're that young- dear husband HAS to come to help. LOL Yeah, he called himself "the pack mule" and the description fit him back then. LOL)

Is anyone going to be around during the 28th of Aug thru 09/04? I would love to meet up with
I'm going to miss you by a month :( I'll be at WDW 28th of September until October 5th - this is my annual "Ladies Only" for Food & Wine :woohoo:

I would stay at OKW with no dining plan. (waitlisted for BWV!) The dining plan is great if you want to eat ridiculous amounts of food, but with a little planning, you can eat economically. Have lots of healthy snacks on hand for in between meals.
Just my opinion, for whatever it's worth..... :sunny:
Growning boys can eat a lot :lmao: :lmao:

Our problems at VWL were three fold. First it was a studio for only 2 nights after a cruise.
We check in no problem. Room isn't ready - no big deal - so we head to MK. Come back when we call and the room is ready. Go to the room. It is first floor. Not my favorite but ok. Open the door and someone is sitting on the bed. We think they were the party that checked out that day but left the patio door unlocked so they could get back in. Go into the lobby of the Villas and call the front desk. We were told we had to go back to the Lodge. Walked over and were treated like we were bothering the person to get a new room. Strike #1.
We get a new room - also first floor. Go in, no one is there, kind of dark for my tastes but ok. We unpack and Mark is trying to upload our pictures onto the TV. Needed video inputs. Called and asked if we could get a vcr for that. Was told no problem but no one ever came and when we called back much later was told we couldn't have one. Strike #2.
While Mark was calling the 2nd time I decided to go out on the patio and read (just like I do on a balcony or verandah on vacation). As i go to open the door a snake crosses the patio. Strike #3.
So VWL just isn't for us. I'm very happy with my Boardwalk home, especially when I have a Boardwalk view!
Not sure if I posted here but we had the same thing in May but at the disney resort not DVC, checked in got our room, Tarryn opened the door and there was peoples things, closed the door and called from the passage phone and had to go back to get another room, got to the new room and it was not made - it was a pig sty, the beds were unmade, wet towels on the floor, dirty carpets etc called check in again and they said some-one would be there with a new room key, 40 minutes later a cleaning lady arrived and said she was making the room for us, it was now 11pm so I went back to check in and got a new room - no apology from anyone there, didn't care less that they wasted our whole evening and my kids were exhausted!!!

I am sure we could work out a weekend. I wish you were coming back at the end of July like you have previously. I have an annual Conference at WDW (This year is Contemporary) and we had so much fun with everyone who was there last summer.
Sorry, Sharon! Can't do DL and WDW within a single month! It was fun, though. We need to do all that again. One of these days, all these kids will be grown, you know?

I'm sure it will cost you more than $200 to eat at disney for 4 of you, not like there is cheap there :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
I say stay with the original and save the points!!
you could rent them out fot 880. never done it but you could try!! :lmao: :lmao:
Sorry, I'd stick with OKW. Because I've stayed at a Value resort, and I'd much, much rather stay at OKW. It's nicer, quieter, two queen beds vs. doubles, and you don't have to stand in the aisle every single bus trip.
Did you waitlist a standard view at BWV, Amanda?
Dancind
06-27-2006, 08:21 PM
Amanda -- if it was me and you wanted to conserve on eating out, I would stay at OKW, go with a 1 bedroom so you have a full kitchen and then buy what you need to eat in the room everyday. We usually try to have all of our breakfasts in the room, eat out at lunchtime, then have 3 or 4 meals in the room at dinner time. This has always saved us a lot of money. I did dining plan this year, just because it was available. Don't know how many times I will do that again.
We did it too, for the two nights we spent there before the cruise. Did some meal sharing, so managed to turn our two night sit down dinners into one night at CA Grill (two credits per person), and one at Les Chefs. All I can say is it's a lot of eating, and a lot of sit down dinners. Which could be difficult if it's just you and four kids. I know they are used to behaving in restaurants, but every night?
I'd say check the menus that are available on the internet, figure out what you would be likely to order at different places that you'd choose if you aren't on the dining plan, and decide if it's a good deal. I'm not that big on cooking while on vacation, but we do eat in some just to have a kick back/TV night a couple of times.

Hi folks - a quick post to catch up before I start with more work (i used to be fun, what happened???)
Anyway - all this talk of going to WDW - we will be there soon for a weekend. No parks because our passes are not good...But we can take a break and relax at a hotel. Love those Fla rates and Disney Dining card.
Tried to book a scuba trip at the end of July....HAH - it is mini-lobster season...I never paid attention before. Not a good time to get good rates in the Keys....must go back to the drawing board and see about other times.
WE do have Ameila Island coming up .... and that is a conference so there is an added benefit of a free night if I get my paper completed on time.
All this talk of going to Epcot - Cannot wait until Food and Wine. We have one Party of the Senses Weekend picked...but we need at least 2 trips to satisfy all my tastebuds....could actually use 3 - truth be told...
Amanda - sorry I cannot help with the options...we are only 2 so we have much more flexibility. We take a coffee pot when we stay at Pop Century and don't eat breakfast so that is one meal saved. Course we spend the remaining savings on food and dare I say "beer"....so, not sure that is a good role model for the little ones. There were some good suggestions posted.
Thanks to Sam, the CD is in the mail. I have learned lots about sharing of photos for the do over cruise....
Gotta run.....more work to complete tonight and out of town again tomorrow....Think - "paying for cruise".....
Nightie night all....

I'm going to miss you by a month :( I'll be at WDW 28th of September until October 5th - this is my annual "Ladies Only" for Food & Wine :woohoo:
We (me and kids) were about "this" close to being there exactly during your trip. But then I decided even though it was very hard to give up the free dining- that I just didn't want to go and spend so much (mostly on the flight for us four!) for such a short trip (we'd have to go 28th-2nd only, because of the kids school schedule). I would have had to buy 1 day tickets for us all for the dining plan plus longer (cheaper) 7 or 10 day tickets for 2 of us, plus the flight and ofcourse we'd want to do MNSSHP- it just all added up to over $2000 (closer to 3) and I said nah.... nevermind. LOL
I do hope they do the free dining next year too though- I'll probably want to go again then since we won't be going again (before the cruises) until June 2008. *fingers crossed*

Last year, I took all 4 kids by myself, ages 9 8 5 and 2. My Steve says he doesnt know how I do it. I just do. We are happy there. I would be with them alnoe here at home, so I would rather be with them alone at WDW!

Did you ask that they call you, or did you make it automatic? If the former, they will call and ask if you still want to make the change, and then you have a day or two to call back. If automatic, they just switch you, and send you a new confirmation. It doesn't hurt to call every few weeks to check on it, sometimes there's a cancellation and they just give it to you. Even though they say they don't do that.

Ooh, well then no question- if you're saving $200 AFTER using points and getting the dining plan... then that's a no brainer. I thought you were saying it was $200 cheaper if you go with the points but then you'd have to buy food the entire time! Sorry about the confusion.
LOL about the Amanda WDW fund. Sorry- right now we're contributing to the Shelley/Jeff/Robert/Ruby/Rita WDW/cruise fund. :rotfl: What's up with the toilet paper though? Were you stocked up from a sale or something and ran out? Or just don't want to go to the store? If it's the latter- I'm with you on that. I keep procrastinating doing that- I'm going to have to give in and go grocery/etc. shopping soon. Darnit. LOL
It's the 2yr old that makes me say you're more woman than me. LOL Sure I'd be home with them alone anyway while DH at work but it wouldn't be 24/7 alone- and um, I do less at home than at WDW. LOL When we go to WDW we make the most of our time and not a whole lot of relaxing. (maybe someday when we are DVC members too! LOL)
You must have very well behaved children.. not heathens like mine. :confused3 I do good to keep up with my 3 (only 2 hands yanno!) at older ages much less try it with a wee one added to the mix. LOL Mine are a bit hyper though- atleast the older two are..
Maybe you just have more patience or higher stress threshold than myself or something. Anywho- I bow to you. LOL I can do it- but not with a stroller, diaper clad (atleast my last 2 were at 2yrs old- not sure about Nathan) little one, etc. That's just not my idea of fun. You go girl! :)
Oh and I meant to say earlier- some of your posts had me laughing out loud! Especially the one about the AP temptation to renew/etc. LOL

My name is Theresa. I really didn't meet that many people as I had hoped to on board but if any of you remember a little girl with squeeky shoes, that would be my Maddy Jade. So I would be in close proximity or you can wait for Mark to send out the CD/DVD of pics. Mine should be going out to him today with my $5. I do hope to make it any mini dis meets near me or if we will be close to anybody else out there, so in the mean time I'll just keep dis'ing.

Hey Amanda,
We stayed in a studio at SSR after the cruise. We are not DVC members but rented points from someone on the DIS rent/trade board. As for availability it wasn't reserved until April 3rd, fairly close to our stay. We were in the Paddock bldg - about opposite of the area with DTD views. We probably got what was left 'cause we didn't check in til about 9pm because we did the KSC after disembarking. We did look out over the pool - one of the little pools - not the main one. We didn't use any of the pools. In the building by the pool there was 2 washers and 4 dryers. They have the slots for quarters but you don't have to pay. I'm told the only the 1 and 2 bedrooms have washers and dryers. There was a mini fridge, microwave, small sink, and I think a coffee maker. There were 4 stoneware type mugs, 4 glass drink glasses, and the rest was disposable - 4 sets of plastic silverware, 4 paper bowls and 4 paper plates. You would need more plates and all if you were to eat in the studio much. We only ate in the food court the night we arrived. It was good and there was a bit of variety like someone mentioned (Diane?). Alan and Bryce took the bus over to Epcot once, and Shane and Bryce went from MGM to SSR once. Both times there wasn't much of a wait for the bus to pick them up, just that the bus does take some time to get to your destination of course.
Hope that helps!
Sherry

I've gotten a couple of emails from Bryce. They're nothing like Matts. You can just tell it's killing him to sit still long enough to get two sentences out. I hope his English teachers never see these........anyway, the one this evening said he "forgot" to tell me they went "elevated water entry......". Apparantly that is also knows as cliff jumping :teeth: . The 30 feet of Inspiration Point (hmmmmmmmm) wasn't enough for him so he went higher to 35-40 feet. It's probably a good thing he "forgot" to tell me before hand. Stacey, weren't we just talking about my other son and rumors of cliff jumping at lunch???????
He's also going to be able to get his advanced scuba certification. What a summer this kid is having.

Good Morning All - - itchy to travel again after reading the posts you posted after I signed off.....
Amand a- don't know if I ever told you but we stayed at Boardwalk Villas for my Mother 80's birtday and it was perfect. Of course, it was just the 3 of us. We had a nice room, one huge bedroom and walk in bath with jacuzzi and a living room, with sofa bed and an ever larger walk-in shower. A full kitchen, 2 balconies...Turned out cheaper than 2 rooms the summer of 2000....no rates that year on any hotel. It was a treat!
Mother still wonders who is sleeping in "her" room!!!!
Later...

but...
#2, her (xx) would actually have to be (xxx) b/c it would be over 100 weeks!!! not sure I want to see a number THAT big. :lmao:

Good morning everyone!!
All this talk of a mom's trip to WDW has me wishing I could go. Unfortunately, Charley and I celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary in November 2007 and I need to save up for that. I have been playing with the idea of a Wonder cruise. Even have a secret porthole room selected. Then I started thinking about RCCL. Have always wanted to try them and figure this was a good time since we would be doing a 4 day cruise w/o kids. They only require a $200 deposit on a 4 day and we can get a Junior Suite with a balcony for about $100 less than a cat 10 on DCL. Decisions, Decisions. I have to release the dcl room today.

Ok, not a math genius here, but there are 52 weeks in a year....that means 104 weeks is two years....but we are just less than that....by 3 weeks, which still leaves us at 101 weeks.

Not me. Call me odd man out, but I MUCH prefer vacationing with my family. I'd probably be miserable knowing I was doing something that my family LOVED so much and they'd be stuck at home. Mike and I went to WDW once without the kids (but we did take his mom and her dh) and it just wasn't the same without them....I cried when I saw Snow White in the parade b/c that was KT's favorite and I knew she'd dearly love to have been there.
Guess there will be a time for Mike and I to vacation alone, but it won't be until the kids are grown and gone. And me vacationing by myself? or Mike by himself? Probably will never happen.
So no mom's trip for me.....not like I was invited anyway!! http://dkeddy.com/pictures/1poke.gif :stir:

Hey, OM,
Paul and I were just talking about this possibility....maybe it would work for your family as well...
Go with the family when the "Mom's meet" and meet the Mom's for dinner or a day at a park or....
That way you get the best of both world's...sharing disney with the family as well as the Moms!
We're toying with that since I have some Visa $$ I need to spend before Dec 07. (Took all of my $$ out just before we ended up not going on the cruise.)

Ohminnie...I wouldn't have considered it either, when my kids were younger like yours. Now that they are teenagers, I will take any opportunity to get as far away from them (for a limited amount of time) as possible. It won't be long and they'll be going all sorts of places without me, so I may as well get in a week or two now and then to myself.
My Mom's entire life revolved around us kids. Ever since we all left home (to this very day!) she has had no idea what to do with herself. I'm convinced that the reason she is the way she is (very jealous of any friends I now have, very over-possesive of our time together, etc) is because she made her life all about us kids, and didn't have a life of her own. I guess I'm selfish, but I won't do that to myself. I have spent 24 years HALF MY LIFE! raising kids. I am entitled to some "me" time.
Sorry....having a bad day thanks to one of the kids. Off my soapbox now.

I think in this case, its easier for me because (now, all of you, don't hate me for saying this), but going to Orlando isn't a vacation to me. My kids are used to WDW being a daytrip, not a vacation. Which, honestly DOES have a downside- its a little less 'special' than it was before we lived here. (And we can NEVER justify DVC...)
Guess there will be a time for Mike and I to vacation alone, but it won't be until the kids are grown and gone. And me vacationing by myself? or Mike by himself? Probably will never happen.
Ray and I took our first vacation without kids when Elizabeth was 18 months old. We found it was very good for US, and gave the kids some uninterupted grandparent time. We used to go every year, but it doesn't always work out that way now that we live farther from my parents. Now, he occasionally comes with me when I have a business trip, and it becomes our mini-vacation. But, different things work for different families... my sister and her DH took their first sans-kids vacation last year... and their oldest is 23. (But she and I have cruised together - no kids, no DH's... now THAT was fun!!)

That's why I'm doing a girls' cruise. Two of my 'kids' are grown, and I don't get to see them much. At least once a year we've been taking a 'girls weekend'. We just decided to extend it in 2007, when my older DD will be 30! So I'll have to leave DH and DS home for a week. Besides, with :happytv: , they won't even know that I'm gone.

I want to do PEAK season at Magic Kingdom ;) ;) :lmao:
Part of our problem too is that Mike maxes out his vacation time each year taking family trips. He *technically* is allowed 5 weeks. He usually takes 6, plus various and sundry Fridays or Mondays to extend a weekend (or a vacation) So for him and I to go it would mean decreasing one of our other trips---which no one wants to do. :)
The good thing is, I'm ok with the situation as it is now. Everytime something comes up that sounds interesting, I just remind myself that right now is the season for me to be raising kids. I'm not sad about it. I don't feel deprived. Nor am I resentful of the fact that this is where God wants me right now. :) :) :) So in the words of Colin.....It's all good. :)

Of course you were invited, did you not read "any takers?" That means you! I do understand though. And I can't even claim that it's because Alicia is a teen, because she's a joy to travel with. She's in a "been there, done that" phase, so I might as well take advantage of it and take an opportunity to do some off-season travel that I just can't do with her. The summer trips were really getting tough with the heat and the crowds. We wouldn't leave her here alone, so that means Dad stays too. I've done it plenty of weekends and longer scuba trips so I don't feel guilty, in spite of what I said. Yes, I will miss them, but I expect to be having so much fun that it won't be full time missing. Plus, she will be driving by then so it will be pretty easy for Kevin. It's this September that will just about kill him. But as I said, I've built up quite a credit.

Theresa, thanks for adding your name! Don't worry about crazy internet people, they're all on this thread anyway.
You probably deserve the trip more than most! It is hard when they are little. Kevin and I took two long weekend trips when Alicia was little, my SIL watched her. Alicia got sick both times, just like the first time she went to GS camp. She didn't do well without her Mom and Dad, but I think she would be just fine now! Hee. Problem is, SIL has two kids now with busy schedules, and Alicia's schedule is as bad as both of hers combined. We couldn't do that to anyone. So no couple vacations for us for a while. We have a 20th anniversary in 2008. Whatever we do, we take her along. You don't leave a 17 year old home alone!

I sometimes think that I only have a few years left of family trips. But my brain tells me that this isn't going to happen. She likes travelling with us, especially when we pay! And that won't go away soon, right Virgil? I'm looking forward to that time too, just hoping we can keep paying for it!

Amanda,
The accounts are closed, right? Citibank should be working with you to get those charges cleared. When it happened to me, Chase security and I went over ALL the charges, I told them which ones I had actually made. (those I had to pay!!) All the thieves' charges went on an affidavit which was sent to me, I signed it, and all those charges were taken off my account.
Did you file a police report? If not, you should do that. Nothing they can do for you, but it helps to have it "on the record". Also, notifiy Equifax (they should notify the other 2 credit agencies for you) and put a *fraud alert* on your credit report. This is especially important since your CC's AND your drivers license were stolen. You want a police report and fraud alerts. Unfortunately, I speak from personal experience. If you want any other info from me, email me!

We love it...were last there in 2003....renewed our vows on the beach for 25th Anniversary in Lanai....hiked through the volcano on The Big Island...Tok an eco-tour up to Mauna Kea, camped on Kauai in Waimea canyon...found a great brewery (two actually on same island......).....and much more.
Had a fire every night but once I think on our 2003 trip....Prob.the only folk you know that pack long jons to go to Hawaii.
We also were there twice before....Once we took a three night hike down into the crater in Haleakela (bad with spellings)...Absolutely beautiful....there was no one - birdsong everywhere - starts spectacular.....breathtaking, almost alien landscapes...On that trip we also went to Molokai and Kauai for more hiking - this time the "swamp trail"....
First trip, the tourist trip - the 4 large island, Ohau, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island....Could talk about Hawaii all night....

Then I get a "free" walk-around the park of my choice at times....Had some good evenings that way.....Can only take so much of the convention "meet and greet", if you know what I mean.....

And yes, I said "we"......another change to go to Food and Wine and I can disappear for a while....unless of course the dates you pick in November are when we are diving in St. Thomas......
Ooooo, that's right! Diana, if you schedule the "ladies" trip in the first half of November, we can all do FOOD & WINE!!!! :woohoo:

Sharon and I did a Radisson for our 20th. It is a great memory! No kids, just great food, wine, and service.
Go for it!!!

The Chris (DH) had to turn down a business trip to Hawaii because we were doing the DD Cruise. IT would have been his first time but Disney with the kids was and is more fun. He was very bummed.

Amanda, I was thinking of you last night. I told Madona you said "Hi" - not really, but I would have if I could have :thumbsup2 I only saw a few minutes of the show, but heard it all quite well! She started 45 minutes late - I heard Thursday night too. I'm told Thursday there were some very interesting outfits - quite a few characters (no, not Mickey) at the show. Saturday was kind of mellow. Someone mentioned she'd been starting late all tour. I'm guessing she must get a percentage of the concessions so she holds off starting :teeth: That way everyone is hot from waiting outside to get in, hot from waiting inside where it feels like the air conditioning is turned off, and they are willing to pay big bucks for beverages!

Oh you! HOW did you see the first few minutes of the show??? DId you see her entrance? I had decided, b4 my wallet wa stolen, that to heck with it all and I wma going to the Atlantic City show! Show in about 2 weeks I am off to see the QUEEN! Of course the stolen wallet puts damper in that, as I now feel badly about spending money, but I had booked my airfare b4 it was stoel thru Hotwire on a clearance fair and it is nonrefundable/changeable etc etc ....I am trying to figure out where to stay now.
I have been lucky enough to see her previous 2 tours and she always starts late. Never at ticket time! That hag! haha Gotta love her!

Hi all. HOpe everyone has had a nice day.
Well, all this talk about trips. I do wish I could go, and I do wish my family could go. Unfortunately for us, we have decided not to do any Orlando trips with the family until the cruise in 2008. My kids have had a disney vacation every year since they were very small. Ashley had her first Disneyland trip at 15 months, Dale at 18 months. Since then we have had a vacation at DL or WDW every year. When we went to WDW for our first trip in 1997, Ashley was still free because she wasn't 3 yet and I thought we wouldn't go again for a long, long time. Well, needless to say that didn't happen. Now, here I am thinking about a 4 day cruise out of Orlando for Charley and I. We can only go if my parents will come and stay with the kids, which I am pretty sure they will.
In our 19 years of marriage, Charley and I have had exactly 3 trips together w/o children. We went to WDW for a business trip for Charley for 4 days, for our 15th anniversary for 4 days and then for a conference that I attended in Orlando and Charley came along for 3 days. I went again to Orlando in the spring of this year on a business trip and Charley stayed with the kids. I love traveling with my husband and kids, but with them in school, I hate to pull them out for very long. When Charley and I went for the conference a couple of years ago, we both felt so guilty, that we very quickly planned at 10 day trip to WDW for that summer so we could all go. The kids love it when we surprise them. Last summer, we told them we were spending the week in Albuquerque (Kevin/Diana -- you can imagine their excitement:lmao:) Well, they were blown away when we parked in front of the airport and told them to unpack because we were getting on an airplane.
So, I will try not to feel too guilty about leaving them for a few days so he and I can have a little alone time. We never go out without them at home. I think the only times we have ever even eaten out by ourselves is when both of the kids are doing something with their friends (which doesn't happen very often when they both are doing something on the same night). We are the only couple out of both of our families that are still married to the same person.

It was 605 days or 86 weeks between the first post on this thread and the actual cruise.
Ugh, so long!
But for me this wait is actually "technically" less time than we had to wait for our first cruise- considering we originally booked it in 2003 for Feb 2005 then in 2004 had to postpone it to May 2006! So I can handle this, I can handle this. That will be my mantra..... :rotfl:
Amanda, I can understand being upset to see more charges on there! Actually I'm kinda surprised- for stuff to be showing up at this late a date. You'd think if it was charged on the day you lost it- that it would have shown up by now.. and if charged later, the card would have denied the pymt of that charge. But I suppose the card just was delayed on showing the chg even though it went thru sooner. I'm sure they'll take those charges off. I agree with whoever said to be sure to report this not only to the cc's/etc. but the police and file with credit reports. I'm so sorry this happened to you. :(

Hey, Irene, you are Hedgie's Mom! And Mary is Pooh's Mom, right? Not too mention the breathing furry creatures you may have. When is your St. Thomas trip, is that in 2007 or this year?
Our St. Thomas trip is 2006 - It is my second week of vacation -- the week of 11-11 -- but please do not plan any WDW trip around this as my work schedule is often hectic before vacation, so I may or may not be able to pop up to WDW....When you all set the date, I will certainly plan on it of course.....but you may wish to use the same dates as it has Veterans'Day - which might be a holidy. I like being at WDW for the American pipes and drums on patriotic holidays to hear the military songs....
We are diving and hiking St. John's.....this St. Thomas trip can be attributed to this group....Kevin suggested a dive boat for our November Eastern last year, and we had such a good dive, we are going back. They offer a dive and hotel package and we snatched an low, low air fare.....and a great rate on a rental car....it just all fell into place. I wanted to hike on St. John's but we did not have time after the dive on the Eastern cruise, so another reason to return.
This time, I will have the underwater camera....and take full advantage of all the hints Mark has suggested so I can share pictures better when I return.....
We have one Food and Wine trip planned to WDW for our Anniversary- This year is our 28th.....but we are looking for some other trips - just the weekend....must eat more food, drink more wine.....Gluttony is a sin, ins't it.....I should be ashamed.....

Well, of course. That's why I said early November. Or October, but then there's still a chance of hurricanes. We want NICE weather.
Oh dear, here is my take on hurricanes in early November or October.....With the present weather patterns, early November "should" be a safe bet.....October may not be. October is the BEST time, in my opinion to go to WDW BUT there is a chance of a storm, as the last 2 years showed....From NOAA for October....
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/HAW2/english/basics/images/october.gif
Until recently, Orlando did not have to worry much about storms that came from the west, as the dissappaited as the hit the west coast....BUT, I would still plan on a WDW trip in October because statistically it still should be safe. We do not plan trips that we cannot cancel in October...not because of the hurricane hitting where we may go, but because we may need to stay home to put up shutters on our home and Mother's......
Food and Wine IN October and November with DisMom's --- wheeeee.....

Gotta say, he doesn't GET 6...he takes 6. :) BUT...... for doctors who are not on salary (he's not, he pays all of his own expenses---rent, staff, cost of vaccines he uses, cost of strep tests he orders, etc etc) these are all UNPAID vacations. B/c if he's not seeing patients and generating charges, he doesn't get paid for that time at all. Usually he'll see it 3 or 4 weeks after he gets back.....a big slump in insurance reimbursements b/c he was gone on vacation and therefore isn't getting paid for that time. :(

Between DH, my dad and myself we are available to pick them up and schlep at all the odd camp hours, some days DS has camp from 9 - 1 and then DD has from 10 - 3. I love being able to work and get established after moving here at the age of 28 and being available for my kids.
I take my hat off to stay at home moms cause I think my kids are better off with me working!!!

edited to add, one of the docs he works with takes ONE week of vacation a year b/c he can't stand the fact that he's "losing" money while he's on vacation......besides having to PAY for vacation, he's not MAKING any money back at the office. Just a difference in philosophies, I guess.
So when he dies, are his kids going to want to take a day off for the funeral, or will they be too busy making more money? Priorities ya know... they get passed down from generation to generation.
(My dad, on the other hand, figured out that if he took a bartending job at the Knights of Columbus on Friday nights (where he hung out on Friday nights ANYWAY), he could afford to take us on a cruise every 2 years when we were kids... THANKS DAD!!)
My vacation days will never go unused!

I grew up with my mom always saying that no-one is indespensible - life goes on and you might as well take a couple vacations a year as if you got sick and had to be in hospital for 3 weeks you would have to take the time so you might as well enjoy your life and time with the kids, needles to say all 4 of us kids do a pretty good job at having good vacations every year.
Another thing she always said was ' when you are young you cannot afford to travel and when you are old you don't have the energy to travel'
I guess I am passing this down to my kids!!!
I'm with you on those vacation days!!!

His kids are all grown up now. I think he had 6. One died as a teenager, but he still put 5 through college and a couple of those through medical school. I think part of the reason he works so much is to build up a nest egg b/c he spent it all on school for the kids. Now all of his kids are doing VERY well, and they can thank dad for that. He must have taken more vacations when the kids were younger b/c Mike has told me stories of some of their vacations (real Clark W. Griswold vacations!) :lmao:

it just goes to show what some parents will go through to support their children. We didn't grow up poor but we always family meals and a family vacation even if it was the beach for a day. I will always remember those day of my parents working two jobs so they could provide for me and my three siblings. The DH and I are really lucky he only has to work one job, I get to stay home, and we can afford to take the kids on awesome vacations like the disney cruise. An added bonus we just joined the DVC this last cruise since we've been on two cruises and spent what it would have cost us to join DVC back in 2004 so we took the plunge. I guess the DH will have to wait on that new car and keep this 95 Honda for a little while longer. :)

HA HA. FUnny you should mention that. Mike had me read his last pediascribe as soon as it was posted and he mentioned that..."and hey, a Netflix ad right on that page!" :lmao: :lmao:
But Netflix is good! Last night Mike and I watched Season 1, Disc 1, Episode 1 of LOST (we have never watched it before).....uh....what's the big thing tromping around in the jungle?????? That's scary!
And the kids get lots of educational videos on Netflix. We watched one of the Life of Mammals disks and it was really good. :)

Yesterday was proof positive that I'm blessed to be home. KT and Nick were at acting camp. It's a 25 minute drive into town each way. I was going to leave to pick them up at 2:30, but at 1:50 the phone rings. There is a sad little voice on the other end saying "mom, will you come pick me up, I don't feel well." Awwwwwww. KT was coming down with a fever---chills/headache/yuck. So I walked out of the house and went to get her (sat in the parking lot in the car with her for 45 mintues so Nick could finish)
But driving in to get her I could not help but think how great it is that I have the honor and privledge of staying home with them.
Amen, sister... I'm so with you on that one. I worked when my older two were younger (from babies on up) and I can't tell you how LUCKY I was that they weren't sick often and they tended to get sick on weekends when DH was off on weekends because I sure wasn't off on weekends and my job was such that I could NOT just up and leave work (I was the boss running the place and on one to take my place if I had to leave, no one else who was allowed the key, the responsibility, etc. and it was not a job that I could just close it up to go get my kid if they were sick- it was a restaurant btw). It was a little better when I was over several restaurants and not physically opening/running one store but not much. I was still working TONS of hours each week and on call 24/7 too.
Like I said- very lucky the kids weren't sick needing me to come get them!
I've been a stay at home mom since having my youngest and I'm so glad. Now with 3 kids there is 3 times the chance of one of them needing someone- even when at school. Thankfully still blessed that they aren't sick hardly ever- but you know... they still need things (forgot lunch, spilled food/drink on clothes and need a change, etc. LOL)
And now I get to be involved in all their schools as volunteer, parties, field trips, extra-curricular activities, etc. :)
Honestly I can't imagine how I'd manage to get everything done now, at this point, if I had to work that same type of job again now... I pretty much do everything with the kids and house (except DH is also involved in extra-curricular activities in the evenings with the kids since now he works day!yeah!) and have no idea how I'd do that AND work that same type of job again. Every day I count my blessings that I'm able to be home to *always* be there for them whenever a parent is needed. :) :cloud9:
You know- sometimes I think how things work out just right when you didn't think they would. For instance it took a devastating injustice for this to end up happening for me/us. (DH was terminated from his job of 10yrs with "no reason" so we couldn't file wrongful termination here in Texas since no reason was given. They gave him a glowing recommendation to get another job- we know the reason he was fired is because he had received 100% on evaluations the entire 10yrs and was the highest paid supervisor they'd ever had- they had already hired a young friend of the family to take his place making 1/3 what DH was making before they even fired DH! We found this out later) ANYWHO- it was devastating at the time- we didn't know how we'd make it or how he'd ever find a job making that amount of money/etc. It was rough for a few months (including a miscarriage during that time. :guilty: ) but it turned out for the best! The next job he got turned out to be the best thing for us and now he makes triple what he made previously- something we never dreamed could happen.. and he's been there 7+ yrs now and not only that- but this type of job he LOVES! (previous job was supervising people running the same machines that he used to work also- day after day same thing. This job is FIXING everything- from machines to electrical to computer-etc throughout the entire plant and they didn't call him Mr. Fix it most of his life for nothing! He loooovves fixing things. So this is his dream job- the salary part put aside he'd still love it)
And because of that- I was able to quit working and stay home with #3 (and the other two at that point too, ofcourse LOL). It took a few months of despair and stress and worrying about our future- but it was for the best for us. Funny how things work out like that! :)
Uhoh, I'm rambling. Sorry.

It drove my mother crazy that I never took typing in HS... but it always interfered with honors courses that only met once a day... there was no way I was giving up a 5.0 course for a 3.0 course in my GPA (yeah... back when I still thought that it really MATTERED :rotfl2: )
I ended up in an inside sales job that relied on data entry for my first 7 years out of college... and it was commission-based, so the faster we could enter an order and start another one, the more $$ we made. It still makes my mother crazy to see me type... I use all the wrong fingers, but can keep up with the best of them.

We are really careful with our dog, as Greyhounds are very susceptible to it because of their increased lung capacity... since she retired, she has only been kennelled twice in the 5 years that we've had her.

I had no idea who Matthew Fox was. After seeing Diana's original post about it, I *assumed* that he was the young stud brother to the pedicure girl (Boone, I think his name is.) But I just googled Matthew Fox and it's the doctor. Hmmmm...
Just wait. He gets darker, and broodier, and his voice gets lower as the series goes along. I haven't figured out that last one yet, do you think they do polls? "What do you think of Matthew Fox's voice?"

Hey Scuba... I just heard that VIP has had a bordadella (sp?) outbreak this past week that they are *denying*... my neighbors dog just spent 2 days at the vet (after their 5 day cruise)... the vet guessed where the dog had been before they even told him... eek... is Molly staying there while you're in AK? Hopefully they're germ free by then!
Thanks for the update. I had not heard of this. Yes, Molly and Mickey were planning on staying there.
I may call our Vet to see if she heard of anything happening there.

We can have dueling keyboards then! Everyone at work is amazed at how fast I type and don't have to look at the keyboard. I took typing in high school then worked as a secretary at my uncle's architecture firm in college. My high school typing teacher "hated" our class. It was a class full of band students. He said that they always typed the fastest so we all had lots of free time, which got us in to trouble.
Good luck with your surgery. :wizard:
Ang
Hmm, maybe you're on to something there. I was a band student also- clarinet.. that requires movement of fingers (ofcourse) so I wonder if that has something to do with it?
Oh and btw- y'all are on... it's ON! Deuling keyboards competition is on. LOL
Thanks (about surgery- yes I'm still up. A nightowl canNOT change that especially when they are having surgery oh in about 7.5hrs. *sigh* As if I can relax more than usual and go to bed earlier than usual? Ohwell- I'll be sleeping tomorrow during surgery and afterwards with some good drugs. :rotfl: )
oooh- top with Ang, dueling keyboards, etc. :)

I also took typing in high school. I can't imagine having to look at the keyboard to type. I worked as an assistant to the assistant to the head librarian in college (work-equity) so typed a lot there. Now I type fast, but make more mistakes. I try to type as fast as I can think, but that doesn't work. At least I can hit the backspace key without looking! :) :lmao:
LOL!! Oh yes, I can do backspace and correction in a blink of an eye- because I can't stand things spelled incorrectly. Doesn't bother me when someone else does it- just bothers me when I do it. I have OCD sometimes. LOL

Btw, Shelley, good luck with your surgery!!
I always ask my surgeons and anesthesiologists (sp?) one question before they start my surgery "did you get a good night's sleep last night?"
My dad always asks them his question....he says "how was the party last night?" if they say "what party?" he says "good, that's the answer I wanted to hear!" :lmao: :lmao:
Oh that's good! I'll have to try that party one on my doctor in the morning. He'll get a kick out of it (and he better answer correctly LOL)

They do... but supposedly its like a flu shot... there are resistant strains...
We are really careful with our dog, as Greyhounds are very susceptible to it because of their increased lung capacity... since she retired, she has only been kennelled twice in the 5 years that we've had her.
Once again caught by reading poss backards - a resisent strain - poor puppies..

Instead of the boring "Windows" sound, my computer at work starts its day with the Mickey wakeup call. When a critical question box comes up, the Army Seargant from Toy Story yells, "Code Red, repeat, we are at Code Red", my popup blocker says, "Hey look, I'm Picasso!", and at shutdown, the LGM says "I have been chosen, Farewell my friends, I go on to a better place."

Now, I would be OK with Disney movie sounds on my computer. I generally keep the sound off, because I don't like unexpected noise. Like when you're innocently browsing Ebay auction and one of them starts yelling at you, or playing music really loud.

Just caught up.
A note about my situation. I have worked all my life. Even when my kids were young. I have had periods when I had great bosses and were very understanding. I had a period with one who did not and that was a miserable year. Thank goodness it was only 1 year.
I am very fortunate with the job I have. I get 20 days of vacation, 10 days at Christmas, 5 days for spring break, 2 personal day, 12 sick days and 7 additional holidays. I also have a boss that lets me adjust my schedule as to how I need it. He is a strong family man and is so understanding when it comes to my family. I couldn't ask for a better boss. During the school year, I come in early and leave early so that I can get Ashley to swim practice on the days that Charley can't take her. I drop everything when I need to go to the school because of sickness, etc. I feel so fortunate that I can do those things. I volunteer at the school when I can, made it to almost all of the school parties when they were having them, etc.
If I didn't work, we wouldn't have DVC, we wouldn't go on cruises or nice vacations and I probably wouldn't have any college funds. Oh well. Life is good

Hey, my lucky day.....it's FRIDAY.....FRIDAY KAREOKE!!!
and in honor of our own Diana:
A tweaking of Chicago's "Does Anyone Really Know What Time it is?"
Does Anyone Really Know what YEAR it is?"
As I was walking down the street one day
A man came up to me and asked me what
The time was that was on my watch, yeah...And I said
(I don't) Does anybody really know what year it is
(Care) Does anybody really care (about time)
If so I can't imagine why (Oh no, no)
We've all got time enough to cry
And I was walking down the street one day
A pretty lady looked at me
And said her diamond watch had stopped cold dead...And I said
(I don't) Does anybody really know what year it is
(Care) Does anybody really care (about time)
If so I can't imagine why (Oh no, no)
We've all got time enough to cry
And I was walking down the street one day
Being pushed and shoved by people trying to
Beat the clock, oh, no I just don't know
I don't know, and I said, yes I said
(Background)
People runnin' everywhere
Don't know where to go
Don't know where I am
Can't see past the next step
Don't have time to think past the last mile
Have no time to look around
Just run around, run around and think why
(I don't) Does anybody really know what year it is
(Care) Does anybody really care (about time)
If so I can't imagine why (Oh no, no)
We've all got time enough to die
Everybody's working (I don't) I don't care (About time)
About time (Oh no, no) I don't care

Sorry.
Hey, I'm having surgery tomorrow.. y'all be thinking of me 'kay? I won't be online for awhile atleast... probably... so maybe this long post is just making up for lost time- ahead of time. LOL
BBB,
Wish you the best of luck with your surgery. Hope all went well and you will be able to join us on the DIS boards soon.

Hi all... Asking for some prayers and PD.... Looks like my dad had a stroke today. I'm driving up to Wheeling to check on him tomorrow - but he's weak on his right side and his speech is slightly slurred....
