Good morning all!! I'm falling behind again! Can't keep up with you all! It's especially hard with this mal-functioning computer. :badpc:
We're going over to my son, Eric's, later today. He's going to cook for us  and try to fix this computer!
COLD here in Georgia but at least the sun is shining today. :)
Amanda, I love the pictures of your children - sooooo cute!!! PD that your work schedule gets changed back soon. :wizard:
I don't think I'll live long enough to hit 3,000 posts!!! :rotfl: I've been on the boards 3 years now and am barely over 1,000! Guess I'll have to try harder!!

LET'S GO STEELERS!!!
I am SOO in the groove. I have my Steelers hat on, soon be suited up with my T-shirt that Virgil got for me. Making (from scratch) mozzarella sticks, chili, wings(hot & BBQ), lasagna...let's see, what else? Chips, dips, pigs in a blanket, deviled eggs....oh what a feast is in store. Can't wait. Don't know how much I'm going to be able to eat though. Too excited.
Gotta go back to the cooking.

And I do miss dressing them up for Halloween. But when your daughter insists her choices are either Marilyn Monroe or a French Maid, you know she's too old to Trick-Or-Treat!
I helped Elizabeth to be a Movie Star for Halloween... once I was done helping her get ready, I was almost sorry I did... all the boys were waiting out on the porch for her... and here's what she looked like... scary for an 11-year old!!!!

And Lisa has Contilllion this afternoon and it's the one where the parents have to attend. I will be attending her function this afternoon, Superbowl Sunday. :confused3
They talked about it at last class and the teacher announced that if we could not make it we could do a make up which is on Daytona 500 Sunday at 1:00. That may not be a big event in other parts of the world, but the Daytona 500 is a big event in Daytona...let alone you don't want to be on the roads.
Guess I will go today and miss the pre-game.
Lemme guess... Tosha Williams...

Yes, that is my teachers name. I think she is more into dance than sports. She always works her schedule around the Nutcracker Ballet Performances in December. Fortunately, she did not pick any of my Sunday Gymnastic Meet dates for Cotillion.

Love the cute kid pictures & pretty young lady pictures. Kiki, Elizabeth's picture just made me think about the actress in Paper Moon (not Tatum), the one that was talking about "bone structure". Madeline???

I don't think they have a couple of years left (HA HA). I guess those of you with the older teen daughters had better share any advice you have to those of us with pre-teen daughters who think they are older teens!!!! Jim says he will be fine in a few years when Lisa starts dating - I have my sincere doubts about that. Maybe that is why is being so supportive of my taking Lisa to Longwood (45 minuites away) for gymnastics starting this spring for 5 nights a week. I will definetly being taking her out of the social scene for the time being since we will go directly from school to gym each night.

You've already got it. About the only thing you can do, is keep them involved in things....other than boys and parties. Not that there won't be boys and parties...but if they are focused on something else that they enjoy too, they're more likely to stay on the straight and narrow.
Meeting boys at the door with a shotgun in your hands helps, too. ;)

Just woke up from the first nap and am ready for the game. The second nap will happen if the game is slow and boring. It's fun to see the game in Detroit. Both Sharon and I grow up there, got married there, and moved out of there. Better to be in Florida where it is sunny.
Time for the game and a quiet evening in front of the TV with only the family. That is a treat for us and one that I'm enjoying, now that I am awake.

Registered Travelers would still have to clear metal detectors and put carryon bags through X-ray machines. They'd also face the standard additional searches if they were to set off an alarm or were chosen randomly for extra scrutiny.
A test program has run since July at Orlando International Airport, where 13,000 people have paid an annual $80 fee. They spend an average of four seconds in security lines at Orlando, according to Verified Identity Pass, the company that runs the program. Other passengers spent an average of 4 minutes and 16 seconds.
That sounds contradictory... on on EARTH could they put their carryon bags thru the xray machines and go thru the metal detectors (they'd still have to remove things that made it go off- right?) and get all their stuff in 4 seconds? Impossible. They must be only counting the time it takes to walk the few steps thru the detector. LOL

Ps. When Mary gets our pictures up on our website--- it won't really look like us! Atleast some of us. LOL It's the last family photo we took last year but since then:
eldest DD got her hair cut into a short bob
I elected to let my hair grow out and it grows super fast-so now it's MUCH longer and it's also darker as I stopped fighting the fact that my hair is darker now and not blonde anymore... so now it's darker and longer than the photo. Hmm... the rest are pretty much the same. Just saying- so you won't all say hey, you look nothing like the photo! LOL

3rd grade???? The 2nd graders were discussing and trying to practice French kissing last year - some of it was amusing innocence...some  we got the inappropriate language and touch memo last year from school....eeekkkk!!!
La, la, la, la (sticking fingers in ears ... or should it be sticking fingers in eyes?) I'm not listening/reading. Please, oh please, don't tell me I've only got 2 more years of innocence before this starts.
As for 3rd graders & the teasing ... I think that's about when I was teased in elementary school for being so skinny.

The actual party starts right after the lifeboat drill. About 4:45. The Magic usually pulls away at 5 pm and by about 5:30 is out of the channel and on its way. We plan on changing for dinner after the drill and before we go up for the party.
That is another reason why we like to do the DIS meet at 3pm. It is quieter so people can hear each other and it isn't as rush as it would be at sailaway. Plus once everyone has met you can certainly hang out together at sailaway.

Cool beans. Maybe they'll become bestest friends for EVER and EVER (okay kinda morphed into my 5yr old's speech there. LOL)
Oh and btw- I agree on the terrible two's... terribly misleading. All my kids were angels at 2 and I thought *phew* that's over and I had no problems (well atleast with the first one- I learned my lesson after that!). They all hit the "terrible threes" and "frustrating fours" later on... those were their most mischevious/disobedient/etc. years. LOL

Okay, if anyone that didn't make it to scuba dive with the group that is going with XT divers (with tinksdad/etc.) is going scuba diving at Cozumel-- can you please let me know so maybe my DH can hook up with ya on the same dive(s)?
Or if you are looking to book a scuba diving excursion can you let me know and maybe we can start another group? I've contacted a few places recommended by tinksdad and Dive With Martin sounds promising from their reply. It's showing $75 for a 3-tank dive and he said he'd give a 10% discount if it was a group from the cruise rather than just my lone DH. PM me if interested or to let me know which company YOU have decided to dive with so maybe my DH can go with?

got a question for you, HH....
After reading this thread:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1021053&highlight=insulation
I got to thinking about insulation. Our upstairs is pretty cold (doesn't heat rise?) Now, part of it could be that sometimes we have our heat 'n glo on and it is in the same room as our thermostat, so therefore it shuts off the heat pump and forced air is not being...well, FORCED, upstairs.
But even when the heat 'n glo ISN'T on, the upstairs is quite chilly. KT's room, in particular, is just downright cold (doesn't help it's the corner room on the windiest side of the house.)
But, I'm wondering if insulation "wears out." The house we live in was built in the 70's. Chances are, no other owner did anything about anything in the attic (it's a scary place) So, could it be possible that we need to have some more insulation blown in there?
Hmmmmmm....
Depends on the insulation. Most fiberglass batts will stay in place for their lifetime. Cellulose tends to compact and will lose some heat holding capacity as it compacts. The biggest problem most homes have is air infiltration. Under wall plates, around doors and windows and at other penetrations in the "skin" of the home. If there is access to the attic, then an addition of 6"-8" of insulation will help. Don't forget to seal around the doors, windows and other holes....

I was bored when the game first started, so I was playing with my pictures.
The one that Mary has up now is almost a year old, it was taken on the Mexican Riviera cruise. I guess I could dig out the pictures from the NCL cruise in December....but I doubt if I'd like any of them. I never like any picture that has ME in it.

We're back from the Superbowl party at Mike's dad's house. Good game. Good team won (I was rooting for them b/c the ppl who watched the kids while Mike was in the ER were Steeler's fans....and since I don't have a favorite NFL team I told them I'd root for their team)
Anyway, after that commercial was over, Mike's step mom said "I wonder how much Disney had to pay for THAT commercial!!!"

Aw thanks. I think they are pretty darn cute but I'm like. totally. biased.
LOL
I'm the same was as you posted later on btw... I usually only buy VERY few of the photos of all of us and bunches of the ones of the kids together and individually. What's really sad is that I think I look awful even in that picture and think I look even worse now! Gained some weight, hair all dark (now my natural color- don't know what happened to the natural bonde I used to be), etc. I really need to get my butt in gear and lose the weight again.... but I keep cheating! ugh
As for skinny DD's.... I wouldn't call Ruby SKINNY but apparently compared to the majority of other kids she is. She really isn't rail thin (but I'd kill... okay ALMOST kill... for her flat stomach! I don't think mine was ever that flat or atleast I don't remember it LOL) -she has her mom's bubble butt (which I had even when I weighed 95lbs in highschool LOL) and she has muscular thighs just like me- and she's athletic. So I'd say she has a thin athletic build. But she gets teased also that she's "skinny". That's in 6th grade though..
I told her they are just jealous... same as them teasing her about her glasses (That she doesn't have to wear all the time- only in class when needing to see detail which is why you don't see her with glasses in the picture btw). Jealous of her styling glasses and jealous of her bod- period. LOL Well I'm jealous... that's all I can say. LOL
Ps. it's really getting weird how she's almost as tall as me. You can't tell the in picture because they always cram you all and put you on things, sit down/etc. to get you all in the picture. But she's almost as tall as me and quite a bit taller than my son. She's NOT tall though.. I'm just really short. LOL I'm shorter than Jeff than it shows in that picture too... had me standing on a little stool thing. LOL The picture is deceiving of our heights- that's for sure. LOL

Uh yeah ditto! Ditto ditto ditto.
Now she does have a little fat on her behind but that's hereditary. LOL She only weighs 75/80lbs everytime we go to the dr (up from the 65lbs she'd been for like TWO YEARS!) but she still has that hiney. Same as I did even when I was thin when I was younger. Her legs are all muscle and her stomach is flat as can be. Makes me sick. LOL
We also have to try to get her to eat- but that's mostly because of the medication she takes cause her to not have much of an appetite. That's really how I can tell if she forgot to take them or fibbed and said she took them in the morning before school- if she's ravenous then I know. LOL
I have a REALLY hard time finding pants/jeans and shorts for her... whatever fits her butt/thighs are WAY too big at the waist- she's pretty straight without a figure just yet looking from the front but from the side- look out with that hiney. LOL If we find things to fit her waist- they are TIGHT on the butt/thighs- as if to have that size waist you must be rail thin like a pole? She mostly wears boys jeans/shorts because they fit her better. Go figure. LOL
Oh btw my daughter doesn't swim professionally or anything but we go swimming twice a week at the gym, she's majorly into soccer and the running team at school. she's her mother's daughter.. that's for sure. LOL

I just found this thread and saw that you are sailing on the first double dip. John and I and the girls (Rachel & Tessa) are sailing on 6/24/06. Too bad we aren't on the same sailnig again. We really enjoyed your company in October 2003. I can't believe so much time has passed by aready! Hope you and all of your family are well.
Have a great cruise!

Thx. I think we're pretty good, crack wise...
we got all new super duper argon containing, heat mirror windows a few years ago and that REALLY made a difference in the warmth factor of the house. Also a new front door (we used to stand there and FEEL the wind coming through the cracks) Now it's just the upstairs and it's gotten worse over the years. I think we have the cellulose stuff.
Will call someone. Found a good guy on Angie's list. Seems well liked and honest.

When patients sign up to be seen they write their complaint on a sheet of paper that says "Why are you here today?"
Recently, these were the sign in complaints.....

I'm sooo excited and tired. That game drained me. By the time halftime came, I was losing my voice and totally spent. Wasn't the most exciting game, but hey, a win is a win. I'm soooo happy for Bill Cowher. He deserves this one. Now we got one for the finger. Oh yea.....

Yeah, we need a Cotillion report! Jim, when you get up in the morning, take care of that, OK?
Here is a short Cotillion report. I did not break rule number 1.....Don't embarrass Lisa. I did not do that so it was a huge success.
And I did not punch out the little kid that asked her to dance. Another big success.
It was a fine time. It is fun to see all the kids dressed up and acting so proper. We learned a few basic steps so when we go to the ball we won't hurt anyone. We had cookies and punch and all the dads were watching the clock.
She said I was a little loud when I yelled "are you ready for some football" in the parking lot, but hey we were in the parking lot.

We replaced all windows with those in the first 2 years after we moved in. The first thing that I noticed was the quiet. I knew if they were blocking the noise they were also blocking the airflow. But anything was better than having a snowbank on the inside of the windows on the west side of the house. DH was putting up drywall over lath in what's going to be our 'mud room'. We had some insulation that settled over the window and another place in the wall. We got some cans of the foam stuff to fill in. One of us read the label on the cans and one of us didn't. One of us (not me) overfilled behind the lath above the window. It looked like it was alive as it oozed out of the crack and plopped down the wall to the window sill like an army of wall walkers. What a mess for him to clean up.

I hear you talking about your tweens. DS was lamenting that he thinks he'll never get married because 'everyone' in his class (5th grade) has a girlfriend except for him. He went from private school k-2 to public school 3rd - now and got teased a lot in 3rd and 4th grade. 5th grade has been good, though, so far. He's not an athletic type, and we are in a small town sports-is-all-powerful mentality. He knows that he'll never be one of the 'cool' kids. He's liking band, though, and is starting to practice for his first solo contest next month.

Is it worth paying someone to come out to your house to tell you where the "leaks" are? Our bedroom is soooo drafty. I'm convinced that there is no insulation in the walls. DH's closet has no windows. You can stand in there on a winter day & feel a cool breeze. Same for the water closet (or whatever you call the little room where the toilet is.)

Stayed up a lot later than usual watching the game and no way the kids were going to bed with a house full of company (some of their friends, too). So, I let them sleep in a little and drove them to school. Poor things. Now it's my turn to wash all the cookie trays, etc. But, I will do so with a smile on my face knowing my team has won the Super Bowl!!!!

HEY SCUBA DIVERS OUT THERE?
Just wanted to mention that it looks like wdwgoose and my DH are going to be diving with Dive Martin since we missed the boat (quite literally LOL) with the group going with xt divers and their boats are full now. Sounds promising - $75 for 3 tank and they are offering 10% off of that for the group and paying cash. ($20 deposit mailed to waco,Tx address on their website)
They also said they'd take us whenever we wanted or when we got there from the cruise/etc.- instead of having to wait for 1pm (or later) dive if we can't make it at 7:30am first boat departure... that sounds cool to me!
Anyone else want to join us? Up to 6 together. I think we make 3 total so far? PM me or wdwgoose if interested. :)

Our picture on the website is from the Dec. '04 cruise, so it's out of date too. But it's the last time the three of us had a picture made together. If not for cruising, we probably wouldn't have ANY pictures of the three of us. Alicia's eyes look wonky in that picture too (I think it's the scanner). But she looks normal in the meet pictures, so it's OK.
Jim, sounds like a nice afternoon spent with your girl. Does this mean that Lisa will be a debutant someday?

There are companies that do "blower door tests" and infrared camera test which will show how your home is doing and identify the sources of losses. Check out the phone book or check with the local Home Builders Association for some recommendations.
It's amazing what they can come up with. I would say that if you have no idea, then it would be VERY helpful. Check on the prices of the service and you decide.
If the room/area has no insulation, then it might be a good idea to deal with that. Bummer, because the best way is to remove all the interior sheetrock/plaster and install insulation and then replace the finish.

As for skinny DD's.... and she has muscular thighs just like me- and she's athletic. So I'd say she has a thin athletic build. But she gets teased also that she's "skinny". That's in 6th grade though..
Tell her she will be in good company with the other 11/12 year old girls from this group - there are a lot of them. My daughter is a gymnast, so she can relate to the muscular thigh problem. Pants and/or shorts can be an issue because she has a very small waist, but much larger thighs. We have other gymnasts and dancers in this group and they all have this same "problem". And, as tiny as Lisa is, I know of at least two other pre-teens that are smaller than she is (or were last time we saw them.)

Uh yeah ditto! Ditto ditto ditto.
I have a REALLY hard time finding pants/jeans and shorts for her... whatever fits her butt/thighs are WAY too big at the She mostly wears boys jeans/shorts because they fit her better. Go figure. LOL
Yup - Boys pants definetly fit better for Lisa. I learned that secret from a Mom of an older gymnast years ago.

We hate the winter months with my daughter. All of her pants are really too short on her and she hates that. Capris are much better because the length doesn't matter. However, she gets cold so easy, sometimes she has to wear pants. Her capri's that whe wears for part of her uniform are size 7's and she has to wear a belt with those. Her pants are 12 slims, but we have to have them taken in and even then they are too big, but still a little on the short side. Good thing the warm months are coming up and we can go to wearing skorts and capris for school

I didn't see that one during the actual game. Saw it today on the website that someone posted, but didn't quite give the right address. I thought I had to be wiser, but it turns out I had to be weiser!

GOOD QUESTION ??????
DIVER KEVIN can we log a dive there????????????????????
If you are somewhere warm we'll come dive at your place ????????????????
gaRry
You bet!! The commonly accepted loggable dive is at least 20' for 15 min.
Then you get dives like Jim and did off Lauderdale by the Sea that were 20' deep for 100 minutes!!
For the second question; Our local dive spot is 62° year around. Not particularly cold, but not warm either......
If you have a 7mm suit (you could always rent one) then, come on down!! :Pinkbounc

btw, kikiKaren, everyone yesterday was VERY impressed that I knew someone in such an influential person at BUDWISER! :) I wasn't sure of your actual title, so I said C.E.O. :lmao: Actually no...I said you were a big wig in marketing. And they all went ooohhhh. Then I said you were going to get the Clydesdales for us to take us to the port and they all said ahhhhhh. :)
That was, of course, after they asked me a MILLION questions about Scoopie. Who was he? Why did we have him? Where did he start? What has he seen so far? How long did we get to keep him? What have he done with him so far? Would he like to ride the dog? (pictures pending on that one!)

I had so much fun today! Just wishing I'd had the digital camera, but we used Jay's 35mm...now I have to finish the roll.
A guy came in with a restored fire truck...the old-fashioned kind, all shiny and red. And it works. He's going to do exactly what I wish we could do...protect his property when the fires come after all these days of no rain.
Anyway....I got to sit in the driver's seat, pull the cord for the horn that they use when they go through an intersection, and then push the button for the siren!
I felt like a 10 year old boy, I was so excited!! :firefight

Quick question before I catch up on this thread-- what time is breakfast on the ship? Is it staggered certain times based on your dining time? So say if you were late dining and received 8pm late dining time- what time would breakfast be?
Just trying to figure out what DH will do for breakfast before going on a scuba exursion in Cozumel.

Cool!! Glad gaRry, greGg and your hubby were able to get dives scheduled. Dive with Martin a no-frills outfit. But safe and will treat you right. Just basic dive taxi.....
Just make sure that all are within at least 6 months of last dive at the time. It will help!!
Okay hold the horses... what do you mean no-frills outfit and just basic dive taxi? Does that mean they just drive the divers out there and sit and wait for them? No dive master goes with them or shows them where to dive and things to see underwater/etc?
Please let me know because I'm not interested in my husband participating in a dive like that!
Dive within 6mo is not an issue for him but he hasn't logged a TON of dives. Lots of training, not that many dives logged- like he's certified and rescue also but only like 9 dives logged so far I think. He's not mister experienced like enough to just go out in the ocean alone I don't think. LMK

DH is saying that he wants to do a diving course, has mentioned it before so he would love to join but probably not this time around

Ashamed to admit it, but other than the character breakfast, I've only had room service, and one or two breakfasts at Topsider's. So someone can ( and definitely will!) correct me if I'm wrong...but I think breakfast is open seating, no set seating times...except on the last day.

I looked at Martin's website and it says that all their dives include a PADI instructor and divemaster. I don't think you can go out without a divemaster. Well, the guys we go with have done shore dives on their own...but not boat dives.

I don't know what you mean now would be a good time to be the goose. LOL
But if that's all he meant- that's not a problem. Jeff can bring some water and some snacks from room service (like sandwiches or something) if need be. Martin did say that they will "be able to" eat on the beaches in between dives, so I'm assuming that means there are places for him to purchase lunch if need be (or snacks) in the midst of the long 5hr 3 tank dive? Really can't expect drink and snacks for a mere $75 for 3 tank dive- yanno? That's already dirt cheap IMO.
Um, btw- does cozumel accept US currency?

Nope....character breakfast for people eating in Animator's the first night is the next morning...Sunday. For people eating in Lumiere's the first night their character breakfast is Monday morning, and if you eat in Parrot Cay the first night, your character breakfast is Thursday morning. There will be "tickets" in your room telling you when it is.
On the day we get off the ship, people with early dinner go to breakfast at I think 7:00 am...and the late dinner people go to breakfast at 8:00 or somewhere thereabouts.

You are a worry wart aren't you?? http://dkeddy.com/pictures/1poke.gif
Yes, they HAVE to have a Divemaster with the boat. It's required by Cozumel law. He will be fine! All the dives in Coz are drift dives. This means there is a slight current that the divers drift with. Everyone stays together as a group and the goes up when the dive is done. The boat follows the divers bubbles or gets signaled by the DM using a inflatable marker buoy. A very easy, and enjoyable type of dive. A lot better than trying to fight your way back to an anchored boat with current for sure!!
I hope he wouldn't dive alone! That is against the buddy rules of scuba!!
As far as the no frills part. They use small boats, no showers, no heads, no lunches. They do have water or light fruit drinks, but that's all.

Ya know...I never did finish my NCL trip report....but I loved Roatan! I could go stay there for a week or more. I don't think too many of our fellow cruisers were impressed with it (very poor country) but I loved it.
We had hired a guy with a sailboat to take us out. He met us at the pier, and we went to the west side. He stopped at a place that he said made their bread fresh every day, and made the best sandwiches...which we had for lunch on the boat later, and they were GOOD.
I loved the beach out there, on the west side. So pretty.
We were way ahead of the cruise ship crowd when we hit the reef...we were out there nearly half the day all by ourselves, just us and the guide. Lots of eel...and all the typical fishies. Tons of conch, and our guide taught us to pick them up (under the water) and shake them, to see if they had a "conch pearl". No one had ever told us about that before. Later, in the stores, we saw conch pearls....they are expensive! Jay and I both said we wish we'd been looking for them all along....we might have been rich by now! LOL
We had a beautiful day out there. Capt Dusty let Jay drive the sail boat (I was jealous....but I'd had a rum punch and a Honduran beer...which tasted like dirt, ick) so I didn't get to.
Dusty took us to the Cameo Factory on the way back to the pier....fascinating to see them doing such delicate work. I felt that in order to help support this poor country, I should buy at least one cameo....just doing my part! ;)
They had a medium-size market under a large tent, with all the native wears and trinkets...and one very small jewelry store..at the pier area, and that was about all they had there. I think a lot of people went to Tabayana Beach...or to the dolphins at Anthony's Key.
Okay....you can resume your chat now.........

Although Kevin has promised to NEVER cut it that close again, and I would kill him if he did, it could happen on one of these dive excursions.
