I didn't take any pictures ... sort of wish I had. There is clean-up progress being made. I didn't see much rebuilding going on yet. There are lots of gutted houses & businesses. As Irene has said about FL, I think the problem now is getting workers to actually do the work to rebuild & repair.

Someone sent me this website. It is from the Biloxi, MS newspaper. Some of the after pictures looked exactly as what we saw this weekend... so not much has changed.

http://www.sunherald.com/mld/sunherald/news/special_packages/renewal/before_after/

I'll have to see if I can find a website that has the same sort of thing for LA.

It's only been over 9 years, 158,000 miles, and many dives trip....but today the dive van got traded in. It's a big day for us, we are without a minivan. :cool1:

I ended up getting the Honda Pilot because it can haul all our dive gear.

It was hard getting rid of the van, but once the head liner started falling down on Sharon I knew it was time.

Love my Pilot and hope I can say that in another 9 years, 150,000 miles later.

Hi there! I'm new to this group, but admittedly have been lurking on and off for awhile! It is intimidating for me to jump right in since you all already have well over 1000 pages to this thread!!!

I'll start off by introducing the fam:
We have my DH Paul :goodvibes , DS1 Adam (15) :music: , and DS2(13):thumbsup2 , as well as myself, Susan  . We live in CT where it is 33 degrees and are looking forward to the May 27th cruise which will be our 2nd DCL cruise.

We have 6pm dining rotation and are linked with MIL & FIL and another family (friends of ours).

We look forward to meeting new friends, so please ask questions and I'd love to know more about all of you---w/o reading every page!!! :surfweb:

We booked the afternoon snorkel on the first CC day, because we figured the kids would not want to get up early their first morning on the ship. And I booked the morning snorkel on our 2nd CC stop, just for Jay & I...no kids.

You know guys, it takes me an hour to read just four pages on this little Treo.....can we PLEASE keep the chatter down to a minimum?? I really am trying to stay caught up by reading at night in bed....but I keep dozing off. Not that y'all are boring......

Welcome "new" Susan and family. I'm Stacey, & cruising with me is my DH, Jay, daughter Jordan who turns 16 in May, son Jared, almost 13 at cruise time, and Jordan's friend Amber, 15.

Mary, will take a look at your site tomorrow, can't keep my eyes open, but it sounds pretty cool.

Congrats on the new car Jim & Sharon!

Oh....btw....Diana DID twist my arm to come on this cruise.......and if you believe that, I've got some oceanfront property in AZ that I'll sell ya.
Weather has been beautiful here...but supposed to get cold again by Sunday, when I leave. Maybe it was me who brought the nice warm weather? And the luck to the Powerball winners. Ha. If I had that kind of power, I'd win the Lotto myself. Take care everyone.....I miss chatting!!!

Good morning all. I've been up since 5:00am which is better than waking up at 1:00am, I guess. I was at my brother's yesterday, it was his birthday and found out that they are going on a cruise next week. They leave on March 5 out of Tampa on RC's Legend of the Sea. They have a stop in Cozumel. I was hoping to get some first-hand info about the island, but when brother found out you had to tender, he wasn't too keen on the idea. I will speak to him again and try to pursuade him to go. They are also stopping at Costa Maya. Anyone have any questions for him or things to check out? This is his and SIL's first cruise. They are very excited especially after I showed them a picture of the Jr. suite that they have booked. They are going with another couple who have 7 cruises under their belts who actually booked the cruise for them. I'm curious to see HOW much they LOVE it.

Gotta go and make DH his lunch.

If we don't leave until after Emily gets out of school on that Fri., I can't see us driving all the way to the port that night & was thinking that staying in JAX area would be an option. If we do leave earlier, we'd probably ask my sister to stay with them so that we could have a brief visit (beside, it's looking like a lot of places at the port are already booked up).

Kevin - the fish you have in your siggy, is that a trigger fish? Really neat no matter what it is. Just curious.
Same family as the trigger. A white spotted Filefish. This one was striking in its color and spot definition. Thanks, I thought it was cool too!

Good morning everyone!! :sunny:

I was wondering...how many are planning on doing a Palo's brunch? On our first 7 day cruise, We had a group of DIS'ers who all had brunch together in the private dining room in Palo's. I'm not sure how it was arranged..I know we gave our cabin number to a lady from the group and she set it up. Does anyone think that is a good idea?? If so..does anyone know how to set it up??

Shiann, you have missed this explanation. But our daughter goes to a Performing Arts HS. The "eligible" girls outnumber the "eligible" boys by about four to one. So she is really, really looking forward to this cruise. As her parents, we are looking forward to this cruise with some trepidation.

The picture is way back on page 1825. Blabbermouths, remember?

Hi Stacey! Hope you're staying warm in NE! Good job on the lottery!

Greetings everyone  ,

I do not know if there is any way that I can keep up with a 27500+ post thread, but I will give it a try!

I wanted to stop in and join the thread and hopefully get to know some of the people who we will be sailing with on the May 27 Double Dip! On the cruise it will be my wife (Beckie - not on the DIS) and myself.

We did the Wonder in January 2001 on our honeymoon, but we were unable to dock at CC because of weather  . I am excited about the double dip, this way we can finally (5+ years later) make it to CC.

Welcome Paul -- We are almost neighbors. Live in El Paso Texas. There is another family here on this thread from Albuquerque as well. Check out this site www.monorailgreen.info (http://www.monorailgreen.info). Mark and Mary have this wonderful website where they are keeping track of everything for us. We will have some custom buttons that Mark and Mary are making, and T-shirts and Excursion Bags we are ordering special for our cruise.

It's easier to go through Jacksonville. The hardest part of the trip is usually getting south of Atlanta -- then we feel like we're "on our way!!" I believe the mileage from our home to the port is 530 - so your's should be comparable.

I was thinking that last night! I've never cruised before so I don't know what it's like to be with a bunch of OTHER DISers. I can't imagine that the experience is quite the same.

Ang

Our November cruise was fun, but as you said different. We were not as chatty as this group. But we had a group that went through Katrina, Rita and Wilma, so we all supported each other.

We ordered green neon bracelets and it was quite fun to see each other at the port.

There was lots of chat about DD and DS and the kids programs....I think we all talked each other into buying new formal wear!!!!!

It was great fun bumping into each other at events on board....

and a trip to Graeters for ice cream....mmmmm

Stopped by the optometrist to see if my glasses were ready yet (I'm becoming blind as a bat and NEED my new glasses) They said "sure, we just need to check them in....have a seat." So I wait 15 minutes and another lady walks by and says "we're almost done checking your dh's glasses, should just be a few mintues...and, btw, yours weren't in yet."

DUH. Why would I want to take dh's home?

So I said "don't they need to fit him to make sure the ear pieces are bent right?"

"yeah"

"duh"

Speaking of the test....

I've thought of this on several occasions. Wouldn't it be fun to have a "pop-quiz" on obscure facts that you have learned about the ppl on this thread?

And the winner gets free dinner at Lumiere's or something???

Ok, Ok, the winner gets *some* token to show they have good memories (or spend way too much time on the DIS!)

They had one for the member cruise....and it was kinda fun hunting down ppl getting information.

Although they'd have to be obscure...things that ppl may or may not remember you sharing. They couldn't be easy like "who meets men from the DIS in Vegas?" and "who is referred to as HH?"

Hmmm.....hmmmm....anyone interested? I'll put it together.

Nope... though my day wasn't any more interesting... certainly wasn't 'celebrating'...

My boss has just opened a new business... high end (read HIGH DOLLAR) deep sea fishing tackle... retail shop just opened this week, and we're in the process of shooting the pics for the online store... I am the default Marketing Director for the new business as well, and, (no)thanks to past experience, am handing the inventory coordination in the computer, and the retail merchandising. Wouldn't you know it, a few days in, the guy running the store (and the only other person who knows the computer) is sick as a dog... so guess who THAT leaves to run the computer and keep the place functioning... Happy Birthday to Me! I have spent most of my 'work' hours there for the past 3 weeks (its 2 buildings down from my office)... so I have gotten very little of my 'real' work done... and today was no different.

(Can't DIS from there either... which is why my post count is dropping like a lead sinker.)

Who else is up for brunch??? party:

Also, I heard that the teens and tweens have their own thread going? How do my boys join????

Thanks.
susan

Hi Susan!

Well, I guess we are going to go whichever day we can get it for. Since there are only 2 sea days..it might be hard to book. We will know on Sun! :)
We haven't really decided on what day to do the dinner..it will probably depend on when we get the brunch. I do like the idea of dinner on Tue night since it is formal night anyway. So if it works out OK, I guess Thurs would be best for brunch. There will be my wife and I and our daughter for both occasions. :goodvibes

WELCOME, WELCOME all of our new people. Seems like it is a busy day with our new folks coming on.

I have a little shirt/bag update -- We should have the order form in by early next week. I have been in training the last two days at work, but have touched bases with the vendor and she is making some changes we requested.

Also, instead of the flat $10 shipping, it is now going to be based on actual costs. I was concerned because we had some people just ordering shirts and others just ordering bags. I hated for the people just ordering shirts to pay $10. Unfortunately, we won't know the actual costs until the packaging is done and weighed and it depends on what zone it will go to. It may be a few dollars less then $10 or it may be a couple $$ more than 10.

We have also changed the deadline date to April 7. I want to have time to get all the orders and go through them to make sure nothing is missing before turning them over to the vendor. Because we can't fit anymore onto the form, if you are having your shirts embroidered, you will need to attach a sheet and print out your name/size for each shirt you want embroidered.

Okay -- any questions, please let me know. I will try to check in this weekend, but it will be very busy with the kids. We have a jazz festival for the older son on Saturday and Ashley has her season swim championships this weekend.

It truly is a small, small world. (lets all sing together...it's a small world after all.... :rockband: )

OK enough of that! It is nice to see that some other people from Albuquerque will be on the cruise.

Kevin, I do not scuba dive unfortunately. I am a distance runner (marathons, 1/2 marathons, etc.), and I am considering taking my running shoes and getting a run in at CC. That could be a lot of fun. I am wondering when (if) I will even find the time to do any snorkeling during the cruise.

We have not decided yet on our excursions/spa treatments. Any recommendations?

We have a DD who is almost 2, but she will not be going on this cruise with us. My in-laws will be taking her to WDW for the week that we are on the cruise. It will be very hard to leave her behind, but I figure that give me the excuse to rebook for another cruise next year!

If I can ever figure out how to post pictures, I will post a picture of my DD. :badpc:

Thanks everyone for the welcomes!

Paul

Okay, PIF and 90 days is coming up. Can

Are the "Ages" on the online excursion booking suggestions or rules? We want to do the dolphin excursion at CM but DS is 4 and the age is 5. (Also have DD7 and DD8)

Same question for CC excursion that includes bike rental. DS4 can ride well with training wheels and won't be happy in a seat behind me.

Mostly plan on doing absolutely nothing on whatever beach we happen to be on but would like to do the above and a little snorkeling.

Always open to suggestions.

Paul, there is no reason why you can do both, scuba and running. I'm just starting the distance running so I am not in your league. I'm hoping to run the Disney 1/2 marathon in January. Possibly the marathon next year.

I've been thinking about a run at CC too, but is it possible to find a place to run that is not full of people?

By all means, bring your shoes. There is always deck 4.

BTW - I just got my new Garmin FR 205.

WELCOME all new our new cruisers. Can't wait to meet y'all. Let me introduce myself & family. I'm Maria, DH-Augie, DS-AJ(10), DS-Anthony(6). We're from NY and this is our first DCL cruise. We are so looking forward to it.

Please don't be intimidated by our post #s. Most of it is fluff. As you can see, it is getting to be mostly cruise related now. Don't forget, if you're interested in getting a T-shirt or bag to check out Mary's (WDWLVR) website for all the info.

Carry on people....

The best thing to do is sign them both up with their own screen names and then point them in this direction (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=866171). Remind them to sign off and then sign on if they change who is writing so their responses don't get confused with the previous poster. Happens ALL the time here..... :rotfl2:

BTW, you might have to clear your cookies too!!

Clear cookies on both the DisBoards and the Internet and you're home free!

Very tired this morning as I was up watching the skating - so sorry to see the falls of everyone, not jst the favourites. But the winner was splendid....I will not about to try to post her name - And Japan has a medal - how wonderful for her as well.

Now that it is over, I will tell - I was rooting for little Kimmie......she seemed so "on" in the short program.

Happy Friday!

McFamily - ages for DCL excursions are firm. They won't go below them. Sorry.

Paul - if you want you can send me the picture of your family along with the rest of your information and I'll add it to the photo gallery on our web page. My e-mail address is marygums@monorailgreen.info The web page can be found by clicking in the link in my signature below. Please put May cruise or 5/27 in the subject line. I'm doing a page for our October cruise as well and need to know which cruise you are on!

If anyone hasn't pm'd about buttons and the mini-navigator there is still time but the earlier we get it done the better. Makes production go faster if we can do most of them at once. Thanks!

Hi Paul! You & my DH Bruce may get along. He's a runner too. He has done 1/2 marathons but is not up to marathons yet. He doesn't DIS. I'll have to see if he plans on bringing any running gear with him. He may not though as that would leave me with alone with DD-5 and DD-3.

Do either of you have a suggestion on a hotel in that area? We'll be coming from I-10. I contacted them -- the are like a hotel and they ony sell the dolphin excursion to their hotel guests. The only way to do the dolphins is to book through the cruise, or at least that is what they tell me. There are two excursion times for the dolphin swim (10 and 11:30 a.m.) as I was told by a Disney CM. If you are in the earlier one, it is more time to spend on the beach (Uvero) I think a lot of people will be trying to book this one. It will be interesting.

YES!!! I got into it last season (with all the controversy over who really "won"!!). This season was even better! Can you believe the legs on Stacy Keebler? 41" - WHOA!! I was rooting for Jerry Rice early on, but it soon became apparent that it would be between Stacy and Drew. OMG - Drew and Cheryl's performances last night were awesome -- and, yes, that freestyle was HOT,HOT,HOT!!!! Sunday night will be interesting because they each have one more performance that the judges will score.

I definitely agree! Lisa started out a bit slow, but by about the 3rd week, you could really see her talent. I think how Jerry stayed in so long is that he had a larger "fan base". :confused3

No... Ray is cooking tonight... we had dinner out with friends from Boston on Monday night and in Jacksonville on Tuesday night... so a good home-cooked meal is in order.

Went to a great place Tuesday night though... new in this part of the country, but I know other places have them... Ted's Montana Grill... mostly buffalo on the menu.... YUM!!!!! The buffalo pot roast was incredible!

One opened up near us recently and I've heard good and bad, is it worth trying??? Having the big buffalo outside looked kinds weird to me to make me go in there and eat him!!!!

Hey Laura & Julia,

When y'all drive down to the port, do you go through Jacksonville or stay on 75 to the turnpike? I'm trying to decide what to do.

Ang

We have done both, I think DH prefers to stay on 75 and we are going to try leave earlier before school is out, we normally stop for something to eat and get to the hotel around 10ish depending.

It's easier to go through Jacksonville. The hardest part of the trip is usually getting south of Atlanta -- then we feel like we're "on our way!!" I believe the mileage from our home to the port is 530 - so your's should be comparable.

We just go with whichever when we get down there depending on how we feel, we are going down the weekend before to Weston so that will be 2 long drives and getting out of Atlanta is the worst!!

Hi-I am Linda from Iowa. I have been reading this thread for approximately 2 months and decided to take the plunge and join in. I have 2 children, DS-John almost 8, and DD-Meighan age 6. I am looking forward to my first official vacation in 10 years-in addition to my first cruise experience ever!! :thumbsup2 I don't have any questions yet-the DIS is a great place to obtain information, and I have learned lots. I wish everyone a great rest of the day!!

Welcome Linda and good luck keeping up with this board - it takes me days to try catch up.

You could probably run on the old runway at CC.

Question for Kikipug or Scuba family or anyone else that may know ... I think I'm going to make a reservation for us to sleep in JAX area the night before the cruise. Do either of you have a suggestion on a hotel in that area? We'll be coming from I-10. I'd prefer that it be close to the interstate ... not dirt cheap but something reasonable ... cleanliness is a must!

Edited to add ... Ok ... where was my mind this morning? Jacksonville ... Daytona ... not quite the same place, huh? :confused3 So neither one of you may have any input for me.

Thanks,
Angie

Angie,
we stayed in Jax on our way down when Frances was blowing here way thru, I booked thru either priceline or hotwire, got a good deal - it may have been a Marriott but not quite sure.

I need to stay home more and keep up with this thread. You guys are moving!

Just made final payment. Yep, waited until the last minute. Bought travel insurance too, we're going with Travelex this time. I sure like that "Insure Your Trip" site.

Loved Drew & Cheryl's routine last night, so cute! Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy. Cute and naughty. They kept saying it was the final, was it the final? Then how does the dance Sunday night count? I'm confused. Yes, I really miss Lisa and Louie. They were so cute together.

Alicia's dance team has a group class every Friday for everyone, all ages. They are having a ballroom class tonight, and we thought Dad should go so she can have a partner. The director told me he's welcome, but they really don't need partners. How do you dance ballroom without a partner? This I gotta see.

I had my first "cruise dream". It wasn't a dream it was more like a nightmare. When I was checking in at the port, they had a different cabin number listed for me. It didn't have a verandah, only a window and they didn't have any more verandahs left and they wouldn't upgrade me. Boy, was I upset.

Hope this doesn't happen in real life!!!! I wonder how many more of these dreams I'll have? :confused3

Gotta go now, DH wants to take the family out for dinner...wwaahhooo!! I love that guy.

Diana,

We went with Travelex too. (thru "insure..." They sent the policy right away.

Last night was the "finals" on Dancing but they're dragging it out a bit. Sunday night the couples perform one last dance that the judges will score. Sounds like they'll tally everything up at that point and declare the winner.
