Lyn5
02-26-2006, 12:11 PM
DH's friends are coming over to do archery practice at our place this morning....so I want to walk a mile or so first, shower, clean my kitchen and bake a desert and make the sides for lunch (I already have 6 pounds of ground venison in my slow cooker for lunch :thumbsup2 ). Once that is done, the only other thing I really have is to do the rest of my paperwork (got distracted with the DIS last night :lmao: ) which should be fast...what I have left is stuff for DS to start school...he is going to K

If I am really motivated, I may take our trash to the landfill and sort my recycles....if not I will be back here and sitting on my couch :lmao:

actually, it isn't too bad....I cleaned my home already...usually I would have all that and be folding a mountain of clothes in my living room while the guys eat :crazy2: it is too much work to "hide" 7 loads of towels and clothes. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Once, DS told my Mom, "Grandma, the clothes are in the dryer if you want to fold them " :duck: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

:wave2: have to go. DD wants me to read to her and then I have to get it moving :cool1: talk with you later :wave2:

DH is bummed that they didn't get any of the work started today. He did go out and take some pics even though they didn't get any of the work started. Hopefully one day these will end up being our before pics.

This is part of our back yard. He's gonna have a path/driveway graded out on the left side of this pic so we'll be able to drive down to the greenhouse.

This is the view of the same part of the back yard as the above pic but this is taken from the other edge of our property. The path/driveway will be graded out on the right side of this pic, going toward where the greenhouse will be.

A little dark, but you can still see the grassy area down behind the house. That's where the greenhouse will be going.

This is taken from the road up above our property. Through the trees you can see the grassy area and that's where the greenhouse will go. All of these trees are going to be cleared out and this area is going to be leveled some and we hope to put in a small pond.

Thanks for letting me share with you! :)

ITS QUITE A PROJECT!!! But I know you've been waiting a LONG time for this, So it will be great. I love the pics too.... share often throughout the project ;)

DH has some light systems that he "acquired" years ago.

But believe it or not, he can't get any of those lights that you're "referring" to! They're not allowed to "confiscate" any of the light systems that they get in arrests or raids. It used to be that they would confiscate them as evidence and then after the trial they would be auctioned. Now they have to be destroyed so that they can't be used illegally again. There was a bust a few months ago and DH said he finally had to leave because he said it was driving him nuts watching them destroy these perfectly good light systems!

poor guy, first this and now the paver guy.....

I hope he gets a break soon. pixiedust:

actually, it isn't too bad....I cleaned my home already...usually I would have all that and be folding a mountain of clothes in my living room while the guys eat :crazy2: it is too much work to "hide" 7 loads of towels and clothes.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I LOVE IT..... as if my parents or inlaws needed reminding that something wasn't done at my place!

Hopefully some rest will help you.

Have you tried that product called Airborne. It is made for teacher or by teacher or something like that. It is supposed to stop or help with a cold.

Sick of getting sick? Taken at the first sign of a cold or before entering a crowded or germ-filled environment, Airborne offers hours maximum vitamin and herbal support. This natural formula contains 17 ingredients, including vitamin C and zinc.

Victoria Knight-McDowell holds a glass or her cold remedy Airborne at her office in Carmel, Calif., Jan. 28, 2003.(A.P.)

Out with the cold
Teacher serves up possible remedy

By Rachel Konrad
Associated Press

CARMEL, Calif. -- Victoria Knight-McDowell spent years brewing herbs and swallowing vitamin cocktails to ward off students' bacteria, but the second-grade teacher couldn't vanquish one of the world's most common plagues.
"I'd catch a cold and it would last three months," Knight-McDowell said. "All winter, I'd be sick, from one cold to the next. I decided children's germs must somehow be more virulent than adults' germs."

She refined her herbal-vitamin remedies throughout the early 1990s, experimenting with vitamins C, E and A, as well as zinc, selenium and herbs including forsythia, ginger, isatis root and echinacea.

After nearly two years without a cold, she realized she had come up with the proper proportions for her potion. She called it Airborne and decided others needed a dose.

Knight-McDowell sold the first package of an effervescent cold tablet in January 1997 to a local drug store, Surf & Sand.

Later that year, Knight-McDowell's screenwriter husband, Rider McDowell, received $170,000 for writing and producing a holiday movie, "The Angel of Pennsylvania Avenue." The couple decided not to invest the money in the stock market -- despite the technology boom in nearby Silicon Valley -- but instead in Airborne. They also cashed out their retirement savings.

"Our families thought we had gone round the bend," Knight-McDowell said. "They wanted us to do something responsible, like buy a house. They thought we were mad."

But less than a year later, specialty grocery chain Trader Joe's ordered 300 cases of Airborne -- a $75,000 receipt that forced Knight-McDowell, still teaching second grade, to affix 1,000 package labels every night for several weeks to ship the order on time.

In September 1999, Longs Drugs ordered more, and the company leased a warehouse in nearby Monterey, and order fulfillment centers in Placentia and in Naperville, Ill.

Airborne is now sold at Wal-Mart, Rite Aid and Jewel-Osco, and it's the No. 1 cold and flu remedy at Drugstore.com.

Sales in 2002 increased 300 percent, the owner says. Knight-McDowell Labs, which has expanded into Airborne Jr. and Sore Throat Gummis for kids, is expected to have revenue of more than $10 million for the fiscal year that ends in April.

That's a mere sniffle in the multibillion-dollar pharmaceutical industry, dominated by conglomerates such as Merck & Co. and Pfizer Inc. Neither corporation has anything on the market similar to Airborne, and spokesmen for both companies said researchers were more focused on traditional medicines, such as penicillin and pain killers.

But Airborne's gangbuster growth is nothing to sneeze at, and experts say its success could signal a turning point for the rapidly growing alternative medicine industry. Once considered a niche popular with the yoga and macrobiotics crowd, herbal therapies and preventive remedies are increasingly common among mainstream Americans.

"The goal in Western medicine is to diagnose the situation and eradicate the disease -- kill it with antibacterials, numb it with pain killers," said alternative medicine expert Dr. John Douillard, author of "Body, Mind and Sport" and "The 3-Season Diet." "Alternative medicine is more likely to pose questions about why and how we get the diseases in the first place, and how to prevent them. People are finally realizing that it's easier to prevent sickness than eradicate it once it strikes."

As an herbal remedy that doesn't claim to cure colds once they develop, Airborne didn't need Food and Drug Administration approval before being marketed to consumers, and has never been tested by the FDA.

But an independent study has shown promising results.

GNG Pharmaceutical Services Inc., a testing company based in Sugarloaf, Fla., administered Airborne and a placebo to 120 adults within 24 hours of the onset of the symptoms of an upper respiratory infection.

Researchers classified 47 percent of the Airborne recipients in last year's clinical trial as "full responders" -- people whose symptoms completely or almost completely disappeared after taking Airborne for five days. By contrast, 77 percent of the people who took placebos developed colds, and only 9 percent saw their symptoms completely or almost completely disappear after five days with a phony pill.

GNG Vice President Randy Brown, who said 120 people was an adequate sample size, called the results "outstanding."

"We were pretty surprised to see that the response rate was so high. It blew our minds, to be honest," Brown said from his office in Kansas City, Mo. "They gave me a bunch of samples, so I started using it when I travel. I was stunned to see that it worked on me, too. ... There's no doubt in my mind that the product is efficacious."

OUr church doesn't require us to give up something for lent-it wants us to do something in our daily lives so that we become closer to the Jesus-and then make it a daily habit for life

but it doesn't forbid us either-if it makes us feel closer,so be it. Now if I could just come up with something really good(like giving up swearing) then I wouldn't have to give up anything else-just not my luck so far

Forgive me for not knowing but what religion has lent? Jewish?
I just gave up Mt. Dew for 2 months and had been dranking 4 and 5 a day and had gained from 115 to 165 in less than a year and i am 34. I was told I would lose weight. not one pound!!!! :( :( i had horrible withdrwals , migraines that i could not function with :stir: . so guess what I fell off the band wagon tonight. This is the best dew i ever had. If i can't lose weight getting off no need.

I can say I am broke from having them even though it has only been 2 months. I also know I could have only made it Jessu helping. I had all my friends keep saying go get one it's the best thing for a headach. Even though I am having one I don't feel itt didn't bring me closer to HIM :worship:

It's the Catholic Religion that typically gives up something for Lent(40days) and we don't eat meat on fridays-but they don't require it anymore-not it's just change your life to be more like Jesus-

I tryed giving up swearing-that lasted til I stubbed my toe!!! Just came out!!!!

so I think we might start by saying grace before each meal, something we should be doing, but haven't got into the habit of

You read my mind-I can relate to the insomnia-I have forced sleeplessness-I work nights and pick up a lot of extra shift (all nights) so I end up getting little or no sleep most night-never fun :worried:

It's the Catholic Religion that typically gives up something for Lent(40days) and we don't eat meat on fridays-but they don't require it anymore-not it's just change your life to be more like Jesus-

I tryed giving up swearing-that lasted til I stubbed my toe!!! Just came out!!!!

so I think we might start by saying grace before each meal, something we should be doing, but haven't got into the habit of

I had given up swearing for years even slammed thumb in trunk :thumbsup2 and just calmly said "honey could you pop the trunk". About a year and a half a ago oh no there they were again. I thought what I have done...

I have tried to get in a habit of saying grace and we just seem to last a week or so but wanting to really make it happen.
I thought about always praying at a set time each day no matter what was going on even if we had plans-- stop and say a prayer and Jesus would know I was putting him first. But haven't tried that either.

When does Lent start? Do you not eat meat on Fridays in Lent or all Fridays? Is it all meat or just some kinds. Does you DH actually go along with that? Mine? He would actually think I went mad.

I was raised Catholic but always had questions and issues but hte Catholic Church doesn't allow questions at least not the ones around here

My children are very religious (much stronger faith than I have) and were very unsatisfied with the church
even at 6 Jess would say there has to be something better MOM

so about 6 years ago or so we found a small country Christian Church and never looked back

We found our spot
a place to really worship God and feel the love

some of my Catholic upbringing still infulences my life
I still follow Lent It just seems right

My parents also switched churches and everyone is happier

My one Aunt who is a Devot Catholic doesn't speak to us anymore
but my AUnt who is a CATHOLIC NUN says if we found a place to bring us closer to the Lord than GREAT

I think thats awesome. It really helps when the 2 are agreeable as 1. then you don't have to count on support from others those can just be bonuses. I am Pentecostal but grew up Baptist. I t is different when we change. But as long as we have the same goal as being with Jesus. That's what matters. I may not be Catholic but I think I will try to see if we can go without meat and have another sacrafice. Anything to become closer is always good. I have done a 40 day fast of something before but never start it on a certain day.

Thats sad that it doesn't allow questions. When I changed and when new visitors come in that is what I would think should be expected.

I am sorry about your one aunt, some people are just set in their ways and do not do well with change. The nun seems to be having her heart right where I wish mine would reside.

I was taught a lot of my religious beliefs by a great story teller in our neighborhood who was pentacostal-she was great, she saved me more than she'll ever know!!! She had a weekly meeting at my friends house and it was so comforting-she was truely a gift :)

My grandmother would do that. She would also make sure that any time someone come to see her that we gather in a circle before we left and have prayer. That is another thing I would like to start. We have something like that at our house sometimes our friends just drop by and another of our friends at the sme time, never planned and we fellowship for hours. Even though they only planned to stay for a minute. It is always a blessing.
