Good Ol Gal

This may sound odd, but check by/in the fridge and near your house phone. Sometimes, I get distracted by food or when someone calls and I put down whatever I had to pick up food and/or the phone.
our cordless was in the fridge overnight b/c of that one day.

ok.. ok... ok.. I MUST go do something... I don't want to but I must.
:wave2: Hopefully I'll be able to get on here tomorrow sometime.
That does stink
I've never been to Vegas but it's someplace I would love to go to, but without the kids...so it won't happen for awhile. I think it won't be happening for me for a while too...I told DH that I hope his job wants to send him when our kids our grown...that would be a good deal then if they paid for him and I had free airfare from miles or something...I would totally tag along :goodvibes

yup!!!! just about 100%!!! ( I can eat real food again-- good sign!) I was pretty bumbed last weekend that I got sick, but it ended up being nice anyway. It was sunny and in the 80's so inbetween naps and being sick I sat on the patio at CBR in the sunshine. and monday I got to go to AK and MGM for a bit. I'm just sorry that I was passed out and sleeping when Kelli called on Saturday.
Thanks for asking.

We went out to dinner at the mall, picked up sunglasses for DH and then got the kids and took some stuff to the babysitter...then last night, after the kids were in bed we were talking about our plans for the summer when the kids have off (childcare/school stuff), DH's business trip and our upcoming trips (or no trip :) ) so....mostly grown-up talk (which is nice :) )....

I'm in the home stretch for finishing but I've gotten sleepy so I'll finish them tomorrow. Don't know yet what, if any, we'll get back. We usually get some back on federal and have to pay some on state. DH works off duty work and is paid cash and gets a 1099 and this year he made a lot more than the last couple of years. So I doubt we'll get much back if we do get a refund.

we can't have a septic-unless we want to pay 30-40,000!!
Our lot is all backfilled and no natural soul to be found,so it has to be a self contained unit-big big bucks-so it's a holding tank for us :guilty:

yep! I think when you have changes, a good accountant will save you more than what you pay him. I am not sure about your situation and laws....but when you look at the national plumbing code (so not the my state rules) there are some requirements where a property must have enough room in the yard or property to have two full size absorption bed or trenches...in case one fails you have room to build a second..so this must happen quite often in some areas.
I think many times it depends on the soil on the property and what was put into the system....so if the septic system failed, it may not have been the tank itself, which could probable be dug up and replaced...but the absorption areas where the fluid goes is what has failed...so now the soil can't take in anymore liquid and properly drain effluent and clean it. It could be that the organisms that usually digest the fluid don't function anymore or maybe the previous owner dumped cooking oil down the drain too many times :confused3 Replacing your system may involve installing a larger tank and hauling out the old soil and bringing in new soil or installing a special kind of tank. Around here there are many wells that people install, so if you are within 1000 ft of a public well you need an expensive system installed (or more expense than the standard one). Soil with poor drainage qualities also will increase the size of the absortion area and therefore the expense.
sorry, reread your qoute...the septic tank is still seperating the waste (solids and the liquid part) that comes in from your house and then the liquid goes into the holding tank. In your case it sounds like the holding tank is replacing what an absorption field or absorption trenches would normally do....so it isn't the septic tank that failed...it was the soil itself. And so if you took a ton of laundary in a weekend, the water can't drain fast enough and then you would need to have the tank pumped or it would get stinky...is what I am thinking based upon what you said.

sounds about right-our well is in the front yard most likely less than a 1000 feet. And our neighbors system has failed but they keep using it and the ground get saturated-disgusting and if the wind blows the wrong way it's very smelly
and the DNR has been around looking to see who's contaminating the ground water of the ponds below our house and hasn't found it yet-hello just look up the hill there's a path all the way up it where there stupid waste is draining out into the woods
I should report them when we move-it's really a bad situation-raw sewage in the back yard

:thumbsup2 that's it-we found that out when we had a blockage no one could roto-rooter out(snake)
the septic is still intact, although the drainage-like the neighbors has failed
and can you believe when they connected the holding tank to the septic they put a 90 degree bend in the drainage pipe-we had the blockage discovered there and they placed an access pipe for when it happens again
ckckc2000
03-11-2006, 02:10 AM
he told us he wanted us to find the access pipe for the septic-which is buried under our patio blocks-so they could look in there and then pump that out too-we'll try and do that this spring-I think I know where the cover is,so hopefully it will be ok once we uncover the lid :thumbsup2

and you know-the neighbors yard only floods when she does a ton of wash :scratchin
ckckc2000
03-11-2006, 02:19 AM
and it's funny you mentioned it-but one year we had to replace a huge drainage pipe that leads out of the house and into the septic tank and guess what they found blocking it-cooking grease-yuck :scared: and disgusting, who would ever dump/drain their cooking grease down the drain-we use old coffe cans
:thumbsup2 that's it-we found that out when we had a blockage no one could roto-rooter out(snake)

Here, any bend before the septic tank requires a cleanout or access pipe...since before the tank you have solids...after the tank, in theory, there should only be liquids and so bends are allowed without a cleanout.
Now, the part about your neighbor is very disgusting :sad2: have you ever seen a smokestack on a slightly windy day...and the cloud of smoke starts out small at the smokestack and then gets wider and wider the farther away from the smokestack it gets....air is a fluid and so something similar to this is what is happening under the ground...when your neighbor's junk gets absorbed into the ground...it is sort of like a starting contanimination point and it might be flowing into the groundwater table (if it is close to it) and then it spreads out and seeps into the environment. Then, when you have a bunch of wells pumping water out, that suction is pulling the junk toward the wells and widening how far it travels...just my theory based upon no knowledge, no data and no testing :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
But, in any case, I wouldn't drink from the well unless you tested your water. We have a filter on our water, but I think overall it is somewhat clean, it comes from the County system
But, there were studies done at one of our beaches...where many condo have really large cesspools...so the waste goes directly into the ground and they found that some of the male fish were becoming femine...too much estrogen in the water  so, I don't take my kids swimming there anymore :rolleyes1 Almost a year ago, the EPA changed its rules so those large capacity cesspools have to be removed and septics installed.
and you know-the neighbors yard only floods when she does a ton of wash :scratchin
I have a lame joke, that I think is funny.....
whenever a friend talks about fooling around, I say, "If the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, it is becuase the cesspool is overflowing" :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao:

we've had our water tested when we moved in- and it better not be contaminated now-although we do use a water filter for our drinking water and we have a softner hooked in line too-it's down hill from our wells and I'm pretty sure close to a 1000ft away from our well
but it is a disgusting thing they're doing to the environment :guilty:

I bet it is here too-but the guy said it wasn't
but if the septic tank is still intact that makes perfect sense, now if it was only a holding tank-then no, a bend like that wouldn't make any sense
either way there's now a vent pipe in place to access it if it happens again
it's just wrong what some peole dump down their drains :guilty:
I am somewhat bad myself  I use 409, Pinesole, Tide  but, we are very far from the water table...it is probable over a thousand feet down since we are on the side of the mountain and the nearest well is more than a mile away...and that sucker is deep... We put in a system larger than we need to when we did our home ...thank goodness since some weekend I do a ton of laundary...plus I have a dishwasher
I bet it is here too-but the guy said it wasn't

I was just thinking...Kayla is going to wake up, read our postings and think we are  :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I was thinking the same thing about Kayla :rotfl:
-the only reason we have a clean out pipe in place is because it got blocked and it was -30 degrees out they had to bring in a backhoe and dig up the frozen ground-it was a real mess

but it should help in the sale of the house-easy access for whenever it happens again-that was also when the kids where little and put lots of things that didn't belong down the tiolet!!!

it did-it was embrassing to have them come dig out the blockage-I think they found a couple toys in the blockage too-but most of it was pushed thru to the holding tank

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: well, now I work all day in an office  and these waste systems are, by far, not my specialty...I only help people out on occasion...but....
years ago I worked in construction...and one job we had to connect to a live 30" sewerline...the main line that fed one part of town toward the treatment area. Well, normally the water is moving so fast and it churns in the pipe so by the time you actually see it, it is a gray sludge...well, in this instance a business near where we were working connected directly into the line...so you could literally see everything in there and it was fresh...sometimes you could tell what someone had for lunch...and then there was a rat that lived in that area...and my crew spray painted him green and named him  and for the several days we had that thing open the green rat would come by and visit us :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: If you didn't think this was too gross, I have another story :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

well I'm glad we got to talk about the septic tanks and stuff-now I understand ours better and I'm not so scared of the home inspection aspect of our sale now-I thought it would be a big red flag but really it's just a septic tank with a contained drainage bed is all

I just felt bad for the guy it was so cold and there he was standing in our waste nearly up to his ankles til they got the pipe in place and it didn't seem to phase him at all-where I think I would just about lose it

one guy told us-(which I've never done yet) was that we could do as much wash as we wanted that if the tank overflowed it was just waste water and it wouldn't hurt too much-no way the smell would upset me too much

wasn't sure...I freaked you out with the centepede :rolleyes1
Well, I used to work on new subdivision construction too...and until the government accepts the contruction, you aren't supposed to connect to the public utilities..so we had installed all the new infrastucture for a new subdivision and of course the building guys built a couple of model homes....well, the was no water service, so the slaes women that were in the model home during the day would put water in the toilet and then flush (since the water wasn't connected yet). This went on for around a month...and then when the line was accepted we (not me personally) had to go back into the connections and remove the plugs...that is when we found out that what they were doing  so, for a month all this ripe, raw sewage had built up in the pipe :sad2: yuck! Same thing happened last year on another type of project, and the waste was stinking up the place...someone told me that since the plug was at the bottom of the manhole and the manhole was full of waste, they were going to send in the person who screwed up to dive into the manhole and pull out the plug  but, in the end I think they pumped it out and then pulled the plug...that is still gross though :rolleyes2
