Yes, Atkins puts a lot of emphasis on meat and proteins and red meat is fine, which is against most of what doctors say these days. My husband explained it to me once because I just couldn't comprehend why it would work...Carbs are the first thing that your body works off, then the protein stuff. If you eliminate the carbs from your diet then whenever you exercise or you do anything to burn off the food you've eaten it's going to start burning off those proteins first if you've skipped the carbs. Both Atkins and South Beach are about eliminating the carbs so that your body will burn off the other foods first. And carbs are what make you hungry, too.

You do have to wonder about Atkins, though. He said that all that red meat was fine for you and all the dairy products, all the high fatty foods were great...but the man died from a heart attack??

Yeah that does make you wonder. Well I think I am going to look over South Beach again and start working on my Mom.
I want her to live a long time. And she has already had open heart surgery so she really needs to take care of herself.

Hey Kayla ~ You were right!

Dr Atkins died at New York's Weill-Cornell Medical Center and was surrounded by his wife and close friends, said Richard Rothstein, his spokesman.

He had suffered a severe head injury on 8 April after falling on an icy pavement while walking to his office in New York.

The doctor shot to fame in the early 1970s with his Atkins diet, a low-carbohydrate, high-protein eating regime.

Followers of the Atkins diet are allowed to eat unlimited meat, eggs, fish and shellfish.

But they can only eat small amounts of carbohydrates, such as bread, potatoes and pasta.

All this time I have thought he died of a heart attack. And I'm pretty sure it was my ob/gyn that told me that!

I am going to scream if they don't straighten out DH's work issues soon

The one Boss came back on Monday
said he would fix everything

Now he seems to have "forgotten" and other employees are starting rumors which are untrue but make my DH look bad

I am so tired of it all

DH said he is talking to them today
it is there ( the Boss's ) fault so they better fix it
I hope so if not DH may decide to just look for another job and if that is the case
I wanna look south

Now that you know they'll be keeping you on, how many hours per week will you be working?

the past two weeks I'm only scheduled for ~12 hours. My dream would be a guaranteed 15 hours, but I'll take the 12...

there are two other ladies who are also seasonal who only have 4 hours a week!! I would have to have two part-time jobs if I only had 4 hours a week :confused3

That's why I've been on here more in the past week.. I only work 3 days for 12 hours :goodvibes

How long is he gonna be gone this time? he comes home late tonight....he just went to another island....but we are so used to always being together (our family of four)...and eating dinner together too :( I felt really guilty this morning.

The other day, when I stayed home, I took the kids to school and DS was hanging on me really sad and DD was crying and crying and trying to hang onto me, they didn't want me to drop them off at school, they wanted to stay with me. And then this morning DH tells them that I am picking them up from school and they were so happy, they thought I was coming to get them in five minutes...not at the end of the day :(

I felt really bad, I have this horrible guilt that I work and then when I am home during the week taking care of them or myself I feel guilty about not being at work. I think I inherited this from my mother ;)

Rule Number 1 ~ DON'T FEEL GUILTY!

You and your DH have made choices based on what you want and what you think is best for your family. It's all give and take. You have a little less time with the kids during the weekdays because you are working...but on the other hand your working affords you some luxuries because of the money (whether it be trips, things for the kids, retirement income, or whatever).

My DH and I have gone the other way. I don't work full-time. I really work only enough to meet our bills. This is because we decided long ago that we wanted for one of us to always (okay, now it's almost always :teeth: ) be home with the kids. So our kids have a lot more time with me than your kids might but on the other hand there is usually not much money for extras. Our kids have done without a lot of "things", not as much now as a couple of years ago. (It was a lot harder when DD was growing up than with the boys.)

And DH and I have gone through all the guilt feelings too. And we have finally decided that we've chosen what works best for us and we don't need to feel guilty about it!

So, no guilt, Lyn! You and your DH are doing a great job with your kids and you have a great family. Feel good about that!

trappednabox

So, no guilt, Lyn! You and your DH are doing a great job with your kids and you have a great family. Feel good about that! thanks Kathy and Tracy  I know I shouldn't...but it is hard not too feel bad sometimes. I don't think I would be happy at home full-time, I would probable drive everyone nuts and my kids are in school now too....but too bad I couldn't work 4 days a week instead and have one day to do the shopping and cleaning (so that we could enjoy the weekends and nights more). The other thing is that even if we went to only one income, it would be my DH that would stay home, so I would still be in the same situation or worse if I took a job with more hours :( So, I am lucky we both have flexible jobs....but some days I feel like I just can't win :crazy2:

Won't he be in for a surprise. Did he give into the closet idea for the weekend or are you just springing it on him? :rotfl:

I didn't buy anything just yet. :teeth: He has to work part of the day on Sat. So I might start it on Sat and he can help finish it up on Sunday.

I told him not everything has to be work around here. Somethings can be fun rewarding projects. He called me back later and said that he would enjoy doing a fun project with me.

I also want to paint my bedroom. So that mean alot of moving of furniture and whatnots. I need to get rid of A LOT of stuff. We have a large overstuffed chair in our room and I think I want to get rid of it. I would love to put a smaller chair in there. But that one is pretty comfy. :confused3

I am at the point where I just want to run my arm across everything and dump EVERYTHING in the trash. I am not kidding. It seems like everywhere I look there is something that is NOT supposed to be there.

Trust me there is nothing in there that you would want. I am not even sure Goodwill will take them. :rotfl2:

I do need to double check and make sure I didn't hide any money in them. One time I double checked the zipper part before I got rid of some purses and I found a $50.00 I put away for later. I guess MUCH later. :rotfl2:
