I am Amanda and reintroducing myself as I started posting on here during the Thanksgiving holiday.. I haven't posted on here much this week as things have just been so hectic.
I have two little boys and both are in school... and I don't work but I put in alot of volunteering hours up at the school. RIght now trying to get alot of stuff done before the holiday vacation so I am up there pretty much all day..
So anyway.. I live in Texas near Austin in a small town by the name of Bastrop... I am 30 yrs old... and Stephanie introduced me to this board.. I really enjoy coming on here and posting..

I've done a couple of the exchanges now and have really enjoyed them and have always gotten much more than expected! I agree that I would hate for anyone to give up on exchanges because of the Christmas Card exchange. It just had a lot of problems with it, no one's fault just that it's a busy time of year, the fact that it was anonymous was fun but it does slow down the reporting time of people receiving 'cause they're trying to figure out who the card was from and the fact that some have never reported.

I'm still gonna keep doing the exchanges. I've signed up for two candy exchanges and one Disney exchange. :cool1:

Exactly right Kayla-We have decided that we are moving at the end of August-I get a bonus at my current job and we don't want to lose it-it's a lot of $$$ so we are here til Aug 1st-then we are rushing to Douglasville,GA to find a place to live and get the kids registered for school(I already have the exact area and schools narrowed down)-my life will be crazy til after the kids start school-so any time after that and I'm game :flower:

It did take a little while. But it was something that DH and I had wanted for such a long time that most everything just fell into place because that's what we wanted. I remember when we first moved here I really missed the convenience of running to the store, etc. I would go to town every day. Now I only go to town if I have to work or take A.J. to school. Otherwise I hate to go into town. (Like going into town today to go to the grocery store - I just hated having to leave home and do that!)

It was scary but we're so glad we did it. We spent about 8 months looking for someplace to move. We made 17 trips from FL up to this area. We'd find someplace we liked then DH would look into jobs. Finally he got a job here in November of 1990 and we moved in here on New Years Eve of that year. So many places didn't want to hire him because he was an "outsider." One sheriff even told him that he was more qualified than anyone he had in his department but he knew that the community "wouldn't take to an outsider!" Finally, the sheriff here hired him because he was looking for an outsider, someone nobody knew, because he was looking for someone to work undercover. So DH worked undercover for almost five years!

Exactly right Kayla-We have decided that we are moving at the end of August-I get a bonus at my current job and we don't want to lose it-it's a lot of $$$ so we are here til Aug 1st-then we are rushing to Douglasville,GA to find a place to live and get the kids registered for school(I already have the exact area and schools narrowed down)-my life will be crazy til after the kids start school-so any time after that and I'm game :flower:

That's one of the reasons I quit making them birthday cakes. I would spend all that time on them, which I know the kids appreciated, but then "poof" the cake disappeared, all my work was gone, and the kids probably couldn't have tasted the difference between my cake or a store bought cake. So I started buying their cakes! :rotfl:

Give us all a choice of, let's say, 4 dates.

You know that it's going to be next to impossible for everyone to get together at the same time. So, come up with about 4 choices and then let everyone say yes or no to the dates. Once you get a date that's picked by the majority of the ones that feel they can make it you can then go further with deciding on a place to meet.

How's something like this sound?

My vote would be for kids and hubbies! But that's just me. We could plan get-away time for just us girls but it would also be nice for our kids and hubbies to be able to meet each other and see who we sit here talking to all the time. I know when my DH met Kelli's DH they really seemed to hit it off and they both realized that LTP was about real people.

And I'd have a much better chance of getting there if it was all of us. Being able to get away, just me, takes so much planning and coordination. Since we don't have other family to watch the kids I'd still have to coordinate it with DH's schedule so he'd be here for the kids. So quite possibly he'd have to take some vacation time. And if he has to take vacation time it seems only fair that he should get to go on a "vacation." :goodvibes
