Ok I give in. You guys have inspired me to give it a try. The Singer Esteem is on sale at Target for 99.00. Should I get it or save up and get the Brother one from Walmart. I think it's the Brother 6000. Keep in mind that I have no sewing experience. Thanks.

If you intend to do this, I'd say get the Brother. I don't even know the Singer Esteem machine - I know that others have it and love it. I just LOVE my Brother. It's a great machine!

Pumpkin Patch Pictures!!

DS didn't get a custom this time around, but he still had fun. Why do I sew, you ask... DD got half a dozen comments
(at each of the 3 places we went) about her outfit. She was very proud. When we were leaving the pumpkin patch she was holding my hand. She looked up at me and said, "Thanks for my pretty dress mom, I love it!! You're the best, mom!!" That's why I sew!!

I started sewing this summer because of this thread. I bought the Singer Esteem mid-August when it was also on sale. I love it. I believe Aimee also has the same machine and is happy with it.
I guess it all depends on what you want to do and how much use you will get out of it. I went for the Esteem because I wasn't sure I would even like sewing never mind not so sure that I would even be able to sew at all. So I figured why spend more money than absolutely necessary for what could become a dust collector.

These are two of my Thanksgiving outfits. I've loved this pumpkin fabric for a long time, but never knew what I would do with it. Then someone posted a cute outfit on here using the same fabric along with this green and gave me these ideas.

For dd2:

It's finally done!! I'd like to thank fortheluvofpooh for getting the sparkly brown fabric for me. Without her, this dress would have no bottom ruffle. Thank you to all of you wonderfuly sweet women who went to your local WalMart in search of it, too! :grouphug: You're all so great! The outdoor pictures are sort of fuzzy and I don't know why. :confused3 I'd like to point out that this was my first zipper. If you don't look too closely, it doesn't look too bad! I still think Cinderella looks both surprised and suspicious...

See, it was worth the wait, wasn't it! This is EVEN prettier in person! Tessa was just glowing in it yesterday! Of course, she went around telling people (my Mom had a little party, so that's where we were) "My Mommy just LOVES Cinderella!"

On a side note, she also told Brian, my husband, her uncle, "I missed you Uncle Brian, I don't get to see you very often." She is such a little sweetie!

Awww how sweet!!

I sew for all of the above reasons too. But I just made my sewing corner in my bedroom (behind closed doors, I'm a sewing sLoB!) where I have a daycare child napping. Thus, I can't sew till after "work".

I just want to do winter dresses (for Norah and me), hoodies, and sleep pants for the whole family. BUT, I REALLY want to collect fabric to do a Disney Eye-Spy quilt! We should do an exchange of some kind to share our scraps :rolleyes: Heyyyy, there's a great idea! :idea: I vote Heather and Theresa can be in charge of that...

That's the pattern I used for Parker's Barbie Island Princess dress too. I thought the pattern was very easy to follow as well.

BTW, Tessa's dress is gorgeous and you did an amazing job on it as well as all the applique's.

Just out of curiosity, how long did it take you to complete the dress?
I really don't know! I started cutting it out a long time ago. I didn't get to work on it very often and I had a lot or projects going at once for a while. I'm no help here at all. I just don't have a clue how many hours I have into it.

Oh heather I did get some Of my list finished last night. And i got the none slip slipper grip at joanns you can byuy it bty and it's behind the cutting counter with the fusiable webbing and other head bond iteams. I don't know why you have to sew it on. Just ask for it and if they don't have any I have about hald a yard left I could send you.
Yay on getting some stuff finished! I went to bed after I PMed you last night. It was a good thing I did because both of the kids decided to get up earlier than usual. :coffee: I'll look for that non-slip stuff the next time I'm at Joann's. I don't have the fabric for his jammies yet, I'm just thinking I should make him something next.

This is just absolutely adorable! I'm so jealous!! I want one-:thumbsup2
Thank you!! Hey, did you get a new avatar and siggy pic? If so, YAY!!

Congrats on the tag TJ! but it seems to me that we could have some serious sibling rivalry now that you have a tag and your sweet, loving, dedicated sister does not! So.......

Now Heather needs a tag!!!

Hmmmmmm........... I'll bet we can come up with some good ones for her- can't we ladies?

The Challenge is: if YOU were the tag fairy..... what tag would you give Heather???

I'm not sure I like this....

OOOH OOOH OOOH OOH!!!! I HAVE ONE I HAVE ONE!!!!!!!

Once got her behind stuck in the toilet!

That was so funny! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Yep, I KNEW I wouldn't like this!

How about this tag for Heather....

Original designer of the successfully popular "Cinderella surprised, yet suspicious" look clothing

I just about died laughing when I read that!
LOL!!! I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as I did! I gave myself the giggles.

But even though the line was short and there was noone else behind us they would NOT let Lily in.
Glad you're having fun!! But, what kind of mother are you to take your little girl to MK and not make sure she meets Mickey! :sad2: I guess when you get all famous, those kind of things just don't seem so important. :rotfl2:

That's a good one! But, yah know, she totally stolded my whole pumpkin fabric Cinderella dress idea! Little thief! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

This is GORGEOUS! I have to make myself learn to applique.

Has any one ever seen a Snow White peasant's dress? Or a Briar Rose (Aurora) in her drab dress? I wonder things like this when I'm reading to Norah our of her Princess Collection Story book.... OH! maybe a blue Aurora? Untapped market I guess!:confused3

I have been told that (by dd4) I need to make the Briar Rose dress & both of Belle's dresses. I personally think that Snow White's work dress would be really cute, too.

Ok, here's a question for you sewing ladies?????

How bad does it make me that I am sitting here wishing that I could play hooky from Bible study and stay home and sew????????:sad2:

Oh my gosh, is that a ruffle that you used to make the tree?! That is SOO cute!! I love that idea. These are both adorable!

The Christmas tree was done by rouching (no clue how to spell that!). I cut strips of fabric 1.25" and did a rolled edge on each side. Then I gathered it, pinned it to the shirt in the shape that I wanted it and sewed down. It was several steps, but it wasn't hard. I really like how it turned out.

The snowman fabric I purchased at a local sewing machine store that sells lots of quilting fabric. I don't have much of it left at all, so the selvage that I have doesn't have the complete name. All that I can make out of it is "nry fabrics collecion 2004". So my guesss is that it is an Alexander Henry fabric.

Ok, let's vote tnmom in charge of the disney scrap exchange! Let's ask her how to go about this.....;) (just kidding) I would be happy to do it, but we need a plan, which I'm not the greatest at.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's the "givens" to the equation:
1. Bunch of Disboutique(e)rs who live all over the USA, and some beyond. by bunch, I mean X amount, to be exact. :thumbsup2
2. Each of us has a bunch of scraps that would make a groovy Disney quilt, if only we had a big ol' selection of different characters/fabrics.
3. Need a easy, inexpensive way to pass them to everyone in a fair manner.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What if we:

1.sign up so we have a list of participants

1 1/2.sign up what fabric we have to donate x the amount of participants, so there's no duplicates

2. send the fabric that is cut into equal pieces (but not in precise squares) to a trusted and belove-ed thread member liiiiiiiiike, Theresa or Heather etc. :rolleyes1

3. that trusted person divvies it all up and sends it to the participants.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Possible bad things and glitches:
1.Late comers would add expense of mailing if the trusted person already divvied up the fabric and sent it to all the participants.
Possible solution: Have a deadline and stick to it
2.Duplicate fabrics
Possible Solution: put in what fabric you want to use when signing up
3. Newbies feeling left out
Possible solution: Send extra? Do again next year?
4. Too many of one kind, like ALL princesses no general Disney
Possible solution: ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Is anyone interested? Any tips? Thoughts?

DS didn't get a custom this time around, but he still had fun. Why do I sew, you ask... DD got half a dozen comments
(at each of the 3 places we went) about her outfit. She was very proud. When we were leaving the pumpkin patch she was holding my hand. She looked up at me and said, "Thanks for my pretty dress mom, I love it!! You're the best, mom!!" That's why I sew!!

That is the best compliment to a mom ever and that is the reason we all sew. how sweet is she!

I did the snowflake applique in a brushed felt material. It turned out ok, but I will not ever use this fabric again. It was a major pain to deal with!

I love the retro feel of this! Awesome job!!!

Okay, you can't see those nearly well enough, here is at least one big one...

Ok, let's vote tnmom in charge of the disney scrap exchange! Let's ask her how to go about this.....;) (just kidding) I would be happy to do it, but we need a plan, which I'm not the greatest at.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's the "givens" to the equation:
1. Bunch of Disboutique(e)rs who live all over the USA, and some beyond. by bunch, I mean X amount, to be exact. :thumbsup2
2. Each of us has a bunch of scraps that would make a groovy Disney quilt, if only we had a big ol' selection of different characters/fabrics.
3. Need a easy, inexpensive way to pass them to everyone in a fair manner.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Possible bad things and glitches:
1.Late comers would add expense of mailing if the trusted person already divvied up the fabric and sent it to all the participants.
Possible solution: Have a deadline and stick to it
2.Duplicate fabrics
Possible Solution: put in what fabric you want to use when signing up
3. Newbies feeling left out
Possible solution: Send extra? Do again next year?
4. Too many of one kind, like ALL princesses no general Disney
Possible solution: ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Is anyone interested? Any tips? Thoughts?

how about just a basic fabric excange. basically all the fabric we can put into a flat rate priority mailer! 1/2 a yard minimum of each cut. less than a 1/2 and it is hard to combine with something. and all different fabrics, disney, holiday, cottons, sheers, etc. if there is something someone is not willing or able to work with they just put ther exclusions. like - Eeyore3847 - no velvets etc. and in the final exchange we should know if there is boys or girls at the house. hate for a boy to get princess fabric!

Okay, someone's going to need to break this down a little simpler for little 'ol HeatherSue. I gradiated a LONG time ago and I don't know what a fabric exchange entails. So, we stuff fabric in a priority mailer and ship it to whom? Does it all go to one person and they divvy it up? I need more details!

honestly I think the easiest way to do it is to put everyone on a list. pair up 2 people. so if you and I were paired up, I would ship to you and you would ship to me! Just put as much as you can cram into a mailer that is flat rate $9.20 I think it is or so, You can put, uncut patterns, fabric (min 1/2 yard length). just let the other person you are paired up with know your limitations on fabric, so if you can not sew knit or designer weight etc. that way you don't get something you can not use. oh and if you have no boys then no truck fabric etc!
does that make sense?

my*2*angels
10-29-2007, 01:31 PM
Ok I am new here but thought I would make a few suggestions:

1. You would have to send it to one person so that you made sure everyone got a little of something.

2. You would receive the same amount of fabric you sent. For example if you sent 5 different fabrics, you would receive 5 different fabrics.

3. You would probably need to seperate them into to different groups. And by that I mean you could have several different people doing the exchanges. Each person would receive a different group. Like, One person would receive only Disney fabrics, one would receive winter, sheers, etc. That may be easier to sort through than one person trying to do everything!

I don't know these are just ideas! just trying to help!:scared:

wanted to qlarify, it is the fabrics we already have and know we will not have a use for anymore. some of us have amassed a huge collection! Ihave 2 "trunks" and8 huge rubbermaid containers of fabric! it is overwhelming sometimes.

Or the scraps from projects already done. Like I did a purple Ariel outfit and have lots of scraps I can cut up into like 6-10 inch pieces (as long as there's some good images in each piece) and distribute them to others who either want to do a general Disney quilt (like me) or someone who wants to do just girlie disney characters. Or just boyish, or some non Disney fabric. We'd just have to specify when signing up. I guess?

I also never got to a Nemo outfit, so I have tons of Nemo, I can cut up and distribute.

I couldn't find the Disney characters quilted jacket in the photo bucket pages..it was very recent, though. That's what inspired me. It was AMAZING!

We can either send our pieces to one person to distribute or we can send our pieces ourselves to each of the participants. One 10 inch piece of fabric shouldn't add too much postage (times X amount of participants)...it might be kind of fun to check our mail every day to get new pieces!

:confused3

Maybe this can be our January Project??? It'd be fun to work on "together" and show our finished projects. Mine won't have the fancy applique, but I can imagine how creative some of us will get!

Here is Lauren's Halloween strip twirl skirt. This picture was taken a few weeks back when it was freakishly warm here in New England (I think it was close to 85 degrees the second weekend of October). She wore this skirt this AM with an orange shirt decorated with "Halloweeny" things and a light-up skull (the lights flash whenever she moves). Now I have people asking me to make things for them and they will actually pay me for it - WOW!

PS - She always wears sunglasses outside. If she forgets them (or more likely Mommy forgets them) she starts screaming "Too Bright! Too Bright!"

With the fabric exchange, I like the suggestion of groups. I.E. A Disney group, Holiday group, Everyday group, Boy group, etc. Limit each group to 5-10 participants. You could then sign up for which ever, and how many groups you'd be intrested in. (there could always be two groups of the same category if one fills up fast and there is more intrest in that group) I'd suggest fat Quarters. Each participant mails to everyone in thier group. That way everyone gets 5-10 different FQ's for each group they sign up for. Does this make sense? I've done this with borders for scrapbooking before. It's fun seeing what evreyone sends. I'd be happy to try to organize this.

So your little girl's name is Parker? I'm glad to have a name to go with her face because she makes me giggle everytime I see her! She has the best "pose face" that I think I have ever seen. Your pics crack me up because she always has her "cheese" on and it looks like she just stops when you point the camera at her and no matter what she's in the middle of makes her face!!!!

You're gonna have to get her into cheerleading when she is a teenager!

She is a little "cheesy" girl! She loves to be in front of the camera and behind it taking the pictures (sometimes she even takes descent pics).

She would absolutely loooooooooove to be a cheerleader right now. Her brother is playing t-ball right now and flag football is usually playing as well at the same time. She always has to go and watch the cheerleaders!!! I was cheering when I was her age, maybe next year. I would also love for her to be a cheerleader too, something I know a lot about -- I was a cheerleader from the time I was 2 up until age 20 (preschool all the way through my last year of college!)!!

I have the brother and love it!

I have access to some cheap Bambi fabric :flower3:

I like the idea of a fabric exchange. I would love to join.

I am in a "coupon train" that works well. Maybe some of those principles will work for this. It could be like a "fabric train" :cool1: A cool name helps :) My current train has no name, but the first one I was in was "The Buck to Blue Choo Choo" since we mail from Ohio to Michigan and back. My DH thinks I am nuts!

Our train works like this:
We have a list of about 10 people. The first person on the list mails to #2, #2 to #3, #3 to #4 and so on. Eventually the train goes full circle and everyone gets a little bit from each person. What we do is add whatever coupons (in this case we would use fabric cut to a specified size) you do not need. The person who receives your envelope would take what they wanted and replace what they took with at least the same amount. We all mail on Tuesdays so everyone receives an envelope around the same day each week.
To start the train we all mailed to the person below us on the list the first week. We also check in on Tuesday after we mail, so your partner knows to expect something.

After a few weeks it was really fun to see what was coming. I always look forward to my envelope. I usually only get bills, so getting coupons in the mail makes me happy. It doesn’t take much to excite me :laughing: My DH teases me that I am a cheap date since I always have a coupon.

Anyway I think something like this will work if someone could come up with the details and be in charge of the list.

I'm just trying to figure it out. I got a helper, SpongeMommie if it gets too crazy.

What I'm wondering is, should we just send our fabric to each of the participants? Would that be easier?

But, say one person just wants boyish Disney fabric or just girlish, or any Disney, we can kind of custom pick our scraps (or is that too complicated) I know I have lots of characters so I can totally give boy or girl fabric scraps.

Spongie is good at this kind of thing, I'll see what she thinks...she DID willingly volunteer ;)

I thought it would be fun to see what the mail brings each day. How many of us want to do this?
Question for you all! Why do you sew? I guess it sounds totally vain to say that I sew because I want my DD to stand out in the crowd.

Ack! It looked like I ignored your input, sorry! I would love to get cool fabric pieces in the mail (besides bills!) Would the cost get to be too much for the further people as the weight of the package gets bigger as we all add to it?

Is this how it'd be? ((If there was 20 of us who wanted to participate)):
For Example: say I was #1 and I send off my 20 pieces of Nemo fabric to #2. #2 takes one Nemo and adds 20 Minnie Mouse fabric pieces and sends all the rest of the Nemo and Minnie Mouse to #3 who takes one Nemo, One Minnie and adds 20 Tinker Bell fabric pieces and sends the whole thing to #4...Is that what you mean? Then it keeps going around till every one has one of each fabric?

How long would it take if we only mailed once a week? I kinda wanted to get started with this after Christmas.

I'd be in for the exchange. I haven't amassed a huge collection cuz' I just started sewing. But I do have some extra pieces- So I guess I would be in for scraps. I have some cars, nemo, and mickey flannel. I have a ton of snowman fabric that I bought for a quilt that never got made.....
Sounds like fun!!!!

Would You???? I'm not very good at organizing my thoughts! I think we should start a thread for this to sign up. I'd love to help, but not be "in charge of"...

:hug: Thank YOU!!!!!

What if their were groups of say ten and each person sent a piece to each of the others- would that be cheaper?? We could join a group and still have categories- Disney, general boys/girls,groups who want Bigger chunks- 1/2 yard+exchanges & piece groups, winter, spring (dare I say it)..... you get the picture. Kind of like how the photo pass & fridge exchange groups set up.

I didn’t think you ignored me :)

The way we do our coupon train is we add various coupons to the envie. If I take 5 coupons, I replace 5 coupons. If there are 20 people person #1 would mail to person #2, #2 to #3 and it would continue all the way down the list with person #20 mailing to person #1. To start the train we all mailed the first week to the person below us.

As for the type of fabric you could make it specific of just fabric in general. For instance it could require each person to mail at least 10 10X10 squares of the same fabric to the next person on the list. The person who gets the envie can take what they want and will replace those with at least the same amount. Then mail that envie to the next person. The next person takes what they need replaces it again and mails it on. Each person on the train is mailing every week and getting something every week.

As far as costs I am not sure. I guess someone would have to go to the post office and figure out the cheapest option. I have no idea how much it would cost. I guess that would be the biggest factor as to whether this will work.

I hope I explained this so you can understand me. My DD and DS were diagramming sentences today in English and I swear they sucked every ounce of intelligence out of my brain today. Not to mention what it did to my patience :scared1: Let me know if I can clear anything up :)

I am so thrilled that I finished my Halloween sewing in time.

We had a blast at the church carnival last night. I will post picks of the girls outfits later. I forgot to get pics of me and dh in our outfits. Ds wasn't feeling well so he didn't go with us. I will get pics of him on Halloween and pics of dd(10) in her other outfit then too.

I did the snowflake applique in a brushed felt material. It turned out ok, but I will not ever use this fabric again. It was a major pain to deal with!

I love all the christmas stuff! I got some more Christmas fabric today and I guess I better start planning an outfit for DD and bag for me, instead of just shopping!

Okay, you can't see those nearly well enough, here is at least one big one...

We did something like this with doll clothes. We had a "round robin". We started off with a few people mailing an outfit each to person #1. Person #1 could choose as many as three outfits (I think) and then add three outfits they made and mail it to person #2. #2 could choose as many as 3 outfits etc. We limited it to 10 people and you had to mail the package out again within 48 hours. (The goal was to have everyone have a turn within a month) We actually went around a few times and we gave the remaining outfits to charity.

You're the best, mom!!" That's why I sew!!

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa198/2cutekidz/IMG_2278.jpg

That outfit is soo cute!!! And how sweet she is.....definitely makes you want to sew more, doesn't it!!! :goodvibes

click on the multi quote button of each post you want to quote. It's the second button over in the right corner of every post. Then, when you are ready to reply to them all, either hit just quote on the last post you want to quote or reply at the bottom of the page.
Thanks....I think I got it!!!!

When you are reading the posts and see something you want to quote look over in the lower right corner of the posting there is a "+ click on that and it will turn red/orangey. when you are all done reading and ready to post click on post reply and all your quotes will be right there :)

Awww she is too cute!

OK I am going to come back tonight and catch up but here's this past week. The girls were in a costume parade.......no I didnt make their costumes (:rolleyes: fresh off the rack) and then all three girls in their pumpkin skirts (I did make those) at the Octoberfest.

Ok, let's vote tnmom in charge of the disney scrap exchange! Let's ask her how to go about this.....;) (just kidding) I would be happy to do it, but we need a plan, which I'm not the greatest at.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's the "givens" to the equation:
1. Bunch of Disboutique(e)rs who live all over the USA, and some beyond. by bunch, I mean X amount, to be exact. :thumbsup2
2. Each of us has a bunch of scraps that would make a groovy Disney quilt, if only we had a big ol' selection of different characters/fabrics.
3. Need a easy, inexpensive way to pass them to everyone in a fair manner.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Possible bad things and glitches:
1.Late comers would add expense of mailing if the trusted person already divvied up the fabric and sent it to all the participants.
Possible solution: Have a deadline and stick to it
2.Duplicate fabrics
Possible Solution: put in what fabric you want to use when signing up
3. Newbies feeling left out
Possible solution: Send extra? Do again next year?
4. Too many of one kind, like ALL princesses no general Disney
Possible solution: ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Is anyone interested? Any tips? Thoughts?

I have some suggestions if you don't mind!

THis reminds me of the scrapbooking swaps we do over in the Creative Community.

Some things to consider. They have one hostess who is in charge of swapping out.

We categorize i.e. princesses, or Mickey and Friends, Pixar Friends (cars, nemo, bugs life, monsters. inc. etc.)

Everyone signs up and mails to the host, an equal number of items, along with money or stamps for return postage. So for fabric, when you sign up you say you have Mickey gingham or purple princess toile.

THe host distributes them and mails them back to the participants.

So for a fabric swap. We could each mail in a 12 x 12 piece of fabric, then the host swaps it out and mails it back. The more variety of fabric you want, then the more groups you sign up for.

THere should definately be a deadline. Beware though, one swap went terrible wrong and the hostess disappeared with most of the stuff!

Fabulous!!!!

I just PM'd 2CuteKidz in hope's she'd take over :love: Sounds like she wants to categorize too. I hope she'll do it :yay:

Deadlines are a MUST! People procrastinate (me!).

I heard about the non-honest hostess. I also heard once this one mama received donations for her down and out pregnant with twins friend and then put all the donated goods up for auction on e-bay!!!! Can you believe that? I don't think we have anything to worry about in the honesty department.

I think each peice should be 10x10 to 12 x 12 but my quilt squares are usually a finished 5 inch square so if 6 inches is all some can spare, thats fine with me! As long as the actual character is nicely on the piece and not just feet...;)

If this quilt fabric exchange idea is too complicated or not enough people want to do it, I still don't mind sharing what I have if anyone wants to do a quilt of their own. :flower3:

What I'm wondering is, should we just send our fabric to each of the participants? Would that be easier?

But, say one person just wants boyish Disney fabric or just girlish, or any Disney, we can kind of custom pick our scraps (or is that too complicated) I know I have lots of characters so I can totally give boy or girl fabric scraps.

I thought it would be fun to see what the mail brings each day. How many of us want to do this?

I want in on the scraps!!!:jumping1: Another sewers scraps are my treasures. ::yes::

I for one wouldn't want a ton of princess stuff because I have all boys. A princess here or there (esp. Cinderella for Mom) wouldn't hurt, but over all I'd want all types Disney characters.

I love the eye spy quilt concept UMa! :magnify: I had planned on doing a quilt with photo blocks intermixed from Disney trips, but I think just having corner photo blocks like that would be better. Then have all the other sections in various disney! I think they call these "crazy quilts"? :upsidedow

I'm just checking in to say hi to everyone! I've had company and will continue to have company until Thursday so my time here will be limited, but I wanted to stop in and say hello. I'm about 20 pages behind, I can't imagine how many I'll be behind by the time Thursday comes!

Okay, the Disboutique fabric swap is under way!! If anyone is intrested, here's a link.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1623890

We're figuring out all the details. We'll have at least 1 category for yardage instead of the FQ's or squares.

Here's the link to the Disney Fabric Exchange:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1623890

No sign ups yet. We're just getting the interest "out there" to not bog down THIS thread, ya know?

Be thinking of what categories you may want. Like Girls, Boys, All. Or a more specific category like Princesses or Pixar, or Classic Characters, etc. So we can do categories.

:yay: I'm WAYYY too excited for this!

Very funny!! Great minds... The fabric swap is coming along. We should be able to figure out categories tomorrow. There's always more room!! The more that sign up, the more fabric you'll get in the swap! So far we have 20 people intrested!!

I also agree, Love the outfits, Deann! So cute!

And the cinderella dress is awesome!!!!! My daughter would love it! You put a lot of hard work into it, and you can tell, because it turned out great!

I want in on the fabric exchange, I'll go over and post on there in a minute.

I'm still a little loopy from the anesthesia and the vicodin but my oral surgery went pretty well. All 7 teeth are out (apparently both bottom wisdom teeth didn't want to come out) I feel a little beat up, the bottom is more sore than the top. I didn't get any implants today, those will come later. I did end up with two bone graphs.

Here's my new soapbox. Regardless of how afraid you are of the dentist, see him regularly not once every 20 years. Don't be me.

I don't feel nearly as bad as I expected. Hurts far less than having a baby. He was a sweetie and gave me some laughing gas before he even stuck in the iv for sedation.

Barring any complications I have a feeling I'll be feeling better in the next three days. I am, however, already sick of mashed potatoes. I want :cake:!

Ok, well, truth be told, what happened was, we were at Walmart, I saw the pumpkin fabric and said, "Oh this is such cool fabric! Wouldn't this make a cool Cinderella outfit!?" So, actually, the fantastic masterpiece of a dress was all out of Heather's very creative mind! I just planted the seed of an idea, she made it blossom into a beutiful flower!

I am so sappy that everytime someone praises one of Heather's creations, I get so proud!!

So Cute- Where did you get those shoes?? :thumbsup2 I looked all over for tink shoes- and finally ended up with pink beaded shoes- Not really what I wanted but the only thing I could find that I even liked a little. My dd is in a size 4 so she is between the walking and the not walking variety, I don't know if that made a difference- They have lots of 3's & 5's I couldn't find very many 4's. Can you tell I'm still a little obsessed with the dang shoes!!! I just have to let that one go I just don't have any more time to be searching high and low for tink shoes!!!! Ok I fell better now- Off to try and get some sleep. "Good Night Neverland"- I love Hook- that movie has been on alot lately?!?!

That sounds like a really good idea, how many time would it go "around" the mailing list of participants?
What if you don't have much fabric? I only have 2 or 3 choices and minnie dot is one! :confused3
Would you only mail this out once a week ... that would take forever.
But I do think this would definatally work out.

I made the tink shoes myself I was two cheap to buy the store bought ones.:lmao: I used lime green felt I found at a joanns and slipper grip for the bottom of the souls if thats how you spell it. http://www.sewing.org/enthusiast/html/esb_fleece_chinese_slippers.html
OK first of all for the souls I cut out 1 slipper grip 1 felt 1 scrap piece any color fabric for each soul I wanted them to be thick since they were walking around in them all night. The pattern calls for fleece but the stuff I bought strechet too much so I went with lime felt. For the top of the shoes cut out 2 for each shoe it made it more sturdy. Now follow the directions and to finish with a blanket stich around the top of the shoes. then sew a snap on the strap. If you have any questions just pm me. I made two paires in about 2 hours but thats because I had trial and error. I hope this helped.

Hi Everyone!
We just got back from our too short vacation! Now it's time to plan the next one!
Here are a couple of photos. We did Epcot, MK for MNNSHP, and MGM.
The weather was iffy at best all weekend. Yesterday it actually rained all day. Just a drizzle but we were damp all day..Yuck
Anywho, here are a few pictures...

I guess I just saved myself thousands of dollars...LOL
I will post more pictures soon. We all had a great time.

Ds chose not to go. He just got home from camping a couple hours before the carnival wasn't feeling well (cold camping trip). He never chose a bible character any way. Dh was Judace and I was just a peasant woman (didn't get any pics though.)

Cool stuff guys! I am hoping that we get to see lots more costumes Thursday after everyone does their dressing up! I don't really have a very good one picture yet. We've gone to several things, but we've been rushed so much that my pictures have not been very good.

My awesome dh got both of my girls up and off to school this morning so I could sleep in!!!!!! I have a million things that I need to do today, but it's going to be our last nice day (per the weatherman) and I want to stay home and sew with the windows open!!!!!! So............ all the errands will have to wait till tomorrow.

I'm off to my little quilt shop in town to see if I can find one more sock monkey fabric to go with what I have because I am feeling like making something super tacky (you know in the cute way!) today!!!!!!!

And to the sisters: I don't get annoyed by you at all! I have 3 of my own sisters so I honestly don't know if I even notice the difference all that often. You know sisters are always RIGHT THERE:headache: and sisters are alwaysRIGHT THERE:hug: !

OH OK...I'm understanding more now about the button placement and get that but...

I'm going to sound like a dunce now...did you sew the part with the two button holes to the wrong side of the front? Wouldn't that put a rectangle on the front of the dress?

*****
Don't want to sound whiney but I think my question might have gotten lost in the swap discussion....would appreciate any help!

WOW, I spend a day and a half off sewing my last two Halloween costumes and of course I have to play catch up for a couple of hours! I am so in on the fabric exchange! Heading there next...

Great outfits as always, I love the Cinderella outfit Heather it was worth the wait on pictures! All of the new Christmas things are very cute too. I guess I should start on that now, I am putting the finishing touches on my DD Halloween twirl right now, so she will of course only get one use out of it. Hopefully it will still fit her next year...

Just wanted to let you all know that I had to go to JoAnn this morning for some velcro for DS costume and ALL of the Halloween fabric is 70% off!!! I of course picked up 5 yards of the mickey print and 2 yards of minnie orange dot. I only paid $2.39 for the mickey print and less for the orange dot. I couldn't pass it up. I am also HOPEFULLY going to make it to WDW next October so I can make something with it, or just add it to my stash never to be seen again! :lmao:
OT-What are the parks like in late October?(week before Halloween) Are they busy? Last time we went in September and didn't wait in line for anything so I am hoping for low crowds!(I know I could look this up but I know that a few of you guys just got back so I want first hand knowledge!!!!)

as far as MNSSHP crowds go. Earlier in the night they are a little more crowded. You can use your tix to get into the park starting at 4:30 and a lot of ppl w/ tiny tots go early the about 10 the park starts thinning out. We didn't wait for more than 15 minutes on any ride and never have. we walked right onto pirates. But heres the inside scoop on MNSSHP...WDW does a big marketing push locally for MNSSHP so the closer you get to Halloween night the busier it gets Halloween night is almost always sold out. Locals usually go on Fri or Sat nights so kids don't miss school so your better off staying away from those days later in Oct. We've gone as early as the 13th and as late as the 29th and always had a great time. Of course I utulize parade and show times to get in shorter lines, cause I really don't care to stand around to watch a parade. But there are 2 so if you catch one you can use the other as a chance to walk onto some rides close to the parade route. Like if you get to the haunted mansion just before the afternoon parade (on a regular day) you can walk onto the ride cause everone got all excited by the parade set up that they rushed to get a good spot .

And next year our costumes will include sensible shoes. Cause YES, I did wear those pumps all night!!!

hope this helped.

Wow, those are some great outfits!

Castle, I love the EPCOT ball outfit that you made. It's awesome (like anything you make isn't, you rock!)

Surprisingly I'm not in much pain today, I haven't taken a pain pill yet but I'm going to with lunch so I can get a nap in.

DH is going to bring a little desk over from our storage area and I can start getting the new sewing space together. He, of course, decided that I was getting it for him so he could work from home! I said I'd share the space but I wanted it for sewing so I didn't have to take over the dining room on a permanent basis.

My MIL sent me flowers today. I've got to go put them somewhere I can appreciate them and where the three year old can't. :)

I'm going to gather some fabric today, I've got to get moving on a bunch of outfits. I'm bummed I never got around to doing DD's Mickey Halloween twirly shirt, I guess we'll just have the fabric for next year.

I wanted to ask whoever posted the pics of the pillows(sorry I don't remember who but I was frantically trying to catch up on the thread and wasn't reading very well:rolleyes1 ) how they made them! This is a great idea and I was wondering how hard they were and how they were made! IF you could let me know, PLEASE:flower3:! TIA.

I made the pillowcases. The ones I made are travel size. Here are the instructions:

Main fabric: Cut 14 in x 27 in (the 27 in part will be folded in half, with the fold being the top of the pillow)

Accent fabric: Cut 9 1/2 x 27 (this will be doubled over so the finished band is 4 3/4 by 27.

First sew the seam of the accent fabric and then fold in half. You will have a tube that is 4 3/4 x 26.

Put the applique on the pillow and sew in place. Sew the bottom (long side) seam.

Sew the accent fabric to the main fabric (like sewing 2 layers of a twirl skirt).
I top stitch the accent fabric along the seam (or add ric rac).

Sew up the other end of the main fabric (the short side of the finished pillow).

Voila - a pillowcase. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

I'm off to my little quilt shop in town to see if I can find one more sock monkey fabric to go with what I have because I am feeling like making something super tacky (you know in the cute way!) today!!!!!!!

Will you let me know if that quilt shop has any sock monkey fabric left? I may have to make a trip down that way if they stilll have some.

I would like to post a tip that even if your trip is months away, you should start now with your sewing! Our trip felt like so far away for so long and now I'm 11 days out :eek: and feel like I'm never going to get all the projects finished! I have AK outfits finished for both kids but no pics. I do have a pic of a Minnie Tshirt dress.

I plan on adding a bow to the MH, and rickrack to the hem of the skirt.

I really liked how it turned out and plan on making more tshirt dresses for next summer!

We also went to a Halloween party Saturday. I don't have a good pic of the whole family (I'll TRY to get one tomorrow), but the girls were really cute & they're what's important anyway.

We were all Star Wars characters. I was Princess Leia 1st movie white dress. DH was Han Solo. DD1 was Wicket.

DD4 was Princess Leia in the Ewok village.

Dh's goal is to get a pic of all of us in costume with the cat beacuse the cat's name is Chewie. No we aren't ALL Star Wars obsessed, just dh. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Heather, I love your Cinderella dress! So creative and beautiful.

Anyways, I was wondering if it was for your trip in the spring or for Thanksgiving and then I started wondering if you had a pre-trip report for your big family trip?

I think a big family trip would be wonderful for our family so I was wondering if you or Theresa had details about how the planning was going?

Oh yeah and tell us more about the watergate cake? Care to share your recipe?
I would love to do a pre-trip report with Teresa! Our next trip is from May 3-17. So, we were thinking this would be a little bit early to start it. I actually just made Tessa that dress to wear this fall. But, since people mentioned it, maybe she should wear it to the princess meal! We're not going to the castle to eat (I don't think, Teresa is in charge of that), but we're doing Akersush, I believe. As for planning, we set the dates more than a year before hand. We're renting 2 houses in the Orlando area, right across the street from each other. This is a lot cheaper than a hotel for large groups!

I'm just checking in to say hi to everyone! I've had company and will continue to have company until Thursday so my time here will be limited, but I wanted to stop in and say hello. I'm about 20 pages behind, I can't imagine how many I'll be behind by the time Thursday comes!
HI!!

I am so sappy that everytime someone praises one of Heather's creations, I get so proud!!
:hug: I just love you!!:love:

You should be! She does susch a great job on everything she does! ANd, if truth be told, we just love that you BOTH are here on this thread sharing your sisterhood and friendship with us all!! You girls bring a very special feel to this thread... so..... THANKS!
Thank you karebear! :hug: We were talking about you today. All good things!

Every time you post a picture on your deck, I think it's mine! I have the rocking chairs to match that deck furniture. Great job on the costumes!

Love the BIGhttp://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b7ce08b3127ccebe92b1fe575600000025101AZsXLhszbMY

You look great! That costume looks like it would be difficult. Was the blue fabric hard to work with?

And to the sisters: I don't get annoyed by you at all! I have 3 of my own sisters so I honestly don't know if I even notice the difference all that often. You know sisters are always RIGHT THERE:headache: and sisters are alwaysRIGHT THERE:hug: !
Aw thanks! Honestly, there's a LOT more :hug: than :headache: in our relationship!! She's really a great sister!

Does anyone know where Heather is lately????
I'm here, don't get all impatient on me!! I sometimes only have a few minutes to check the boards while Sawyer takes his nap. Some days I stay up WAY too late, just to see what you ladies are up to!

I would like to post a tip that even if your trip is months away, you should start now with your sewing! Our trip felt like so far away for so long and now I'm 11 days out :eek: and feel like I'm never going to get all the projects finished! I have AK outfits finished for both kids but no pics. I do have a pic of a Minnie Tshirt dress.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z124/scrapnmom_wi/Ith_MG_7577.jpg
What a cute dress and what a cutie wearing it! You're right about starting your sewing early. I'm thinking Teresa and I should get started on the ice cream outfits for Beaches and Cream soon!

ETA: I did a search for "Kid's sewing machine" on amazon.com and they have ALL sorts of kid's sewing machines. I guess I never knew these existed anymore!

Hey, look what I saw in the Lillian Vernon catalog yesterday!! It's also on lillianvernon.com These would make the cutest gifts for our kids (ages 8 and up). Too bad Tessa's a little young for these!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v678/hkite/Sewing/020121.jpg
It's $39.98 and here's what it says about it:
The perfect "first" real sewing machine by White handles grown-up chores, too! Made to last with tough plastic exterior, 7 all-metal gears. Large space for guiding fabrics. Locking straight stitch for sewing projects, repairs. Threaded and ready to use, has built-in bobbin winder, foot pedal, 4 metal bobbins (3 with white thread, 1 with black), removable spool holder, how-to's. 4 "AA" batteries are not included, but AC adapter is. Lightweight mini, 8 1/4" x 5 1/4" x 8 3/4" high. Ages 8 and up, adult supervision suggested.

After I saw that, I looked at target.com and they have this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v678/hkite/Sewing/41EWC5TG3SL__SS260_.jpg
This one is pricier at $59.99.
• Great first sewing machine for budding dressmakers
• Features drop-in bobbin, easy lay-in threading and 3 stitch types: straight, zigzag and reverse
• 4-point feed system keeps fabric straight and flat as you sew
• Made of high-impact ABS for extra durability
• 9Hx5Wx11.25L"

GRRR...Okay since we weren't going to be able to go to the parks I thought..well, the AK dress is done (she can wear that to the petting zoo @ Ft. Wilderness, sure) the minnie outfit is done, maybe we'll get to MK one day soon... Epcot outfit, still sitting in my sewing basket (formerly a laundry basket, now home to all fabric, scraps and patterns-though it's clearly overflowing) so why not save the epcot fabric for next year and save some money then....

My inlaws were going to buy us passes for this week but it's been so crappy we've stayed in mostly. But today they decide the weather looks like it'll be decent so we can go to a park on thursday. Hmmm...one day, one park....We did MK for MNSSHP, I hate to buy one day one park tickets to MGM b/c we only like to do a few things there and hate to get one day one park tickets to AK cause their only open 9-5 (my optimal WDW plan includes doing these parks on the same day,one that's a late EMH for MGM) so what park would we go to? Epcot, naturally

GRRR!!!Of course she'll wear her minnie outfit, but still! I mean c'mon can like 1 thing go right on this vacay??
okay enough complaining, We're going to Seaworld tomorrow and hopefully I'll be able to post pics of Lily in her halloween twirl. Epcot on Thursday!!!

I need some advice. I'm having a problem with puckering. Everything is woven, no knits at all. Before when I've appliqued Mickey heads, I don't remember having this trouble. I'll admit, I didn't use stabilizer, but I dodn't really think I needed to since I wasn't using a knit fabric. Could it be the tension? If it is do I need a higher number or a lower (I can't ever remember which way does what).

I use stabilizer on EVERYTHING! I may not need to, but I'm too chicken to try it without it. There may be a more technical answer, but my answer is use stabilizer.

And so the paranoia sets in..... :lmao:

I could use a favor from my boutique friends if it's ok to ask??

As you all know I am gonna be a grandma for the first time in January! :banana: We are all really excited about it here, but yesterday DD called to tell me she was in the hospital. She had been sick all day long and was not able to keep anything down and was dehydrated and just plain run down from this thing! Anyway.... they gave her an IV and hooked her up to a monitor- after which they saw that she was experiencing contractions all the while she was in the hospital! :scared1: NOT GOOD!!! Well, they gave her shot to stop the contractions, and it seems to have worked (although she did continue to have them last night). BUT, I'm just wondering if you all would just remember Alissa in your prayers today? Every little prayer helps.... and we just want to make sure this little guy has every bit of help he can get!

Thanks all!!

I think most fabric needs a stabilizer of some sort. Some denim is heavy enough that it may not be necessary but I use stabilizer on everything. Doing all that stitching takes enough time that I don't want to risk puckering or wavy areas spoiling the effect.

GRRR!!!Of course she'll wear her minnie outfit, but still! I mean c'mon can like 1 thing go right on this vacay??

Hmm, you're at WDW so that's one thing that went right, isn't it? :goodvibes

Soooo cute! The costumes are great too!

I can honestly say that I'm now breathing much easier today. I finally accomplished this horrible McCall's creation, a Prince's costume for Ds(3)!! There were 21 buttons for this thing, corded trim, satin lining, & I used panne velour for the outside. Which I thought was cost effective material compared to real velvet, but man o live-what a pain to work with!!!! Satin & velour right sides together, makes a slippery mess to work with and the edges kept curling on me!!! DH is very impressed, but of course I see all the horrible flaws!

Hi Everyone,

Here are the Thanksgiving outfits I have been working on (thanks to the help from some pixie dust) and would love to ask what you think -
The first out fit is for 3yo Tim - I think its done, do you?
The second outfit is for 1 yo Hannah and the 3rd is for 5yo Elizabeth - what color ruffles would you suggest around the legs of the jeans? I ran out of the matching red and cant find it!!!! Do you think I should do decorative buttons of the top of the jumper or leave it plain? I plan on doing some more ric rack on Elizabeth's jeans, but other than that will a single ruffle do? It would have to be kinda long (like 5-6 inches) cause I had to chop of some decorative stiching at the bottom of the leg - your input is so appreciated!!! Thanks!!

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b88/wendya2J/100_4940.jpg

I was just thinking the other day I might try a turkey applique sweat shirt for my boys! :) Love this idea of the flannel pants with it-how comfy is he going to be on Turkey Day! Where did you get the pattern for it or did you make it up?

I'm going to be applique-ing for the 1st time. Let me clarify, I've appliqued in that I've ironed on characters then "button hole" stitched all around the outsides real neat. I thought that was applique. Here's an example of the my work:
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff76/pv31wife/BDayBarneyOvalls.jpg
From the looks of the hand pieced master pieces 'round these parts I had it all wrong-what a silly girl! :confused3

Any tips on how to hand piece applique turkeys would be appreciated here...:rolleyes1
billwendy: keep up the great work, the jeans & tops are cute also...makes me wish I had a little girl to dress up!

This is in the morning before we left for Epcot.
http://pic1.picturetrail.com/VOL1112/4366414/12451869/285923549.jpg
And this is our hotel hopping day. We spent one day, just exploring the other hotels. And we found that we actually Don't Like the Grand Floridian...LOL.
I guess I just saved myself thousands of dollars...LOL
I will post more pictures soon. We all had a great time.
Lisa, the girls look fantastic! I love that waitress costume! I believe Heather and I are planning a hotel hopping day too! The kids and I did that last year, and it was a lot of fun to dream!
Here is the outfits I made my girls for dress as your favorite bible character. Dd(5) was an angel and dd(20) was Queen Ester.

These are great!!! Just had to post this picture. Looks like our girls would get along:)

Oh, she is so precious! We need to see more (big) pictures of her!

And to the sisters: I don't get annoyed by you at all! I have 3 of my own sisters so I honestly don't know if I even notice the difference all that often. !

Three sisters, that must have been fun! Sisters are something special though, aren't they!

Does anyone know where Heather is lately????
She was at the air zoo. Getting motion sickness on a hot air balloon ride! (no toilet mishaps though!)

And, yep, we were talking about you! Were your ears burning??? (or is that ringing, or is it if your palm itches...................)

Surprisingly I'm not in much pain today, I haven't taken a pain pill yet but I'm going to with lunch so I can get a nap in.

My MIL sent me flowers today. I've got to go put them somewhere I can appreciate them and where the three year old can't.
So glad to hear you aren't in much pain today!!!! How sweet of your MIL to send flowers.

We were all Star Wars characters. I was Princess Leia 1st movie white dress. DH was Han Solo. DD1 was Wicket.
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb55/hrhcalicokitty/Kids%20Clothes/th_wicket.jpg

DD4 was Princess Leia in the Ewok village.
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb55/hrhcalicokitty/Kids%20Clothes/th_endorleia.jpg

Dh's goal is to get a pic of all of us in costume with the cat beacuse the cat's name is Chewie. No we aren't ALL Star Wars obsessed, just dh.

I love Wicket! So adorable! I don't think I have ever seen a Princess Leia in Ewok village costume before! She is beautiful!

Our brother is a big Star Wars fan.

I don't think any of us were reall impressed with the castle, although it was fun last time we ate there. I really liked Aker.....whatever Norway better. Although, it's open for discussion of course! ;) Renting houses is a great way to go with a group. We are paying $550 for the week.

Aw thanks! Honestly, there's a LOT more :hug: than :headache: in our relationship!! She's really a great sister!
Yeah, what she said! :love:

What a cute dress and what a cutie wearing it! You're right about starting your sewing early. I'm thinking Teresa and I should get started on the ice cream outfits for Beaches and Cream soon!
I am waiting for inspiration for the trim on the bottom!

These are so cute! They look like they are made better than the all plastic ones that Lydia and Arminda use. (Lydia's doesn't have a needle, she just pretends). When I was little, I had one that sewed with glue. Very strong glue. I probably lost some brain cells sewing with that!

Oh, you know you are having fun! But, doesn't it just figure the outfit you DON'T make, is the park you go to! She will be adorable in anything though!

And so the paranoia sets in.....

I could use a favor from my boutique friends if it's ok to ask??

As you all know I am gonna be a grandma for the first time in January! We are all really excited about it here, but yesterday DD called to tell me she was in the hospital. She had been sick all day long and was not able to keep anything down and was dehydrated and just plain run down from this thing! Anyway.... they gave her an IV and hooked her up to a monitor- after which they saw that she was experiencing contractions all the while she was in the hospital! NOT GOOD!!!

Oh, how scary! :grouphug: I have started praying for you, Alissa, and the baby. I get so worried when someone has problems when they are pregnant, thank you for sharing with us so we can pray for them.

Well it looks like my pocket book will be a little bit safer. We had our ultrasound today and we are expecting a baby BOY. And most importantly he is healthy party: . Everything look perfect. dd was very upset that she's not getting a sister, but she will come around. I am so excited to find out the gender, and now we get to figure out a name :idea:

That is wonderful! I wasn't able to pick out a good boy name with either of my last two babies, so I can't help you out there! Thank goodness they were girls!

my favorite is Queen Ester also, did you see the movie One Night With the King(story of Ester)? Can't imagine the raw finger tips in sewing all those Ester costumes for that set! They were gorgeous!

What a cutie!!! I'd love to make this one for my niece, who's in an 18 mo.! I'm gonna CASE this!

Cool duds! How genuine & creative are you! Can't wait to see the whole family in a photo!

O, ds told me just after I cut all this fabric out that he didn't want to be a Prince! So, he is now a "King/Dragon Slayer" for those in the know!;) :laughing:
and this is his TShirt he's wearing underneath (created from DIS board designs)
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff76/pv31wife/pcharmingTrang2.jpg

OMG! How cute is that Prince Charming, I mean Very, Very Fierce Dragon Slayer costume! I can see all the fabulous detail you put into it!

I spent a few weeks making a homemade Peter Pan costume for my 3yo DS. Only to be told a few weeks ago that he only wants to be the Incredible Hulk. So he will be rocking a store bought tomorrow night!

Hi there! I don't post much here, but I love reading this thread and you guys have really inspired me. I love all the cute photos and great ideas and information everyone has to share. We just returned from WDW and I wanted to share a few of our customs.

I bought these oufits:

You can see our other trip photos here: http://s222.photobucket.com/albums/dd304/financebrat/

Thanks for looking! Keep the ideas coming!! Amy
Ok, I'm SO incredibly behind in reading this thread, and I'm up at 2:30am on Halloween trying to finish Madison's witch costume, but I just had to comment.

I see that your DISid is AWilliams, and that your name is Amy. My maiden name is Amy Williams, and my oldest DDs name is also Emily.

Heather: I didn't do a whole lot of the sewing- My grammie did most of it. But the Blue taffeta stuff isn't too bad as fas as being slippery. I think the shirt gave the most trouble- the arm holes weren't quite right so we had to fix them. I also decided I had to have an underskirt when the rest of it was done so I had to whip that up!! I need to make a tutu style crinoline thingy to poof it out a little.

Cindy- Your dragon slayer is super handsome- What a great job. Wow on all the little details- 21 buttons!!! and all that trim!!!!

Wendy-(billwendy) I vote red ruffle, but if you can't have that do a double ruffle with orange & turkey print.

Pixie- Congrats on the Boy, Sorry about dd though- I love having a sister. At least she is the oldest- You'll have a helper, Well I bet she already is :) I am 9 yrs. older than my brother and 15 mo. older than my sister so we were little mommies to our bro and changed diapers and fed him, carried him around, dressed him up in crazy clothes- many young girls dream- well at least until you hit the teenage time and then you want to get away as fast as you can :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Karebear- praying for your dd & gb.....
Well good morning everyone- time to go to sleep....zzzzzzzzz...... Counting down the hours now :cool1: :cool1: :yay:

Thanks!!

I think these look fantastic! Great job!

Great oalls! And How adorable is you child!

This is the shirt I've made for my DD for HSM on Ice. I appliqued doing a wider zig zag. I think it works with this and it saved me a ton of time since there are so many letters. 1 down, 1 to go. I'm going to attempt to applique on jeans and rip open the seams. Wish me luck.

I'm thinking it's stabilizer and tension. I had this problem when I made Tessa's Cinderella outfit. I didn't use stabilizer under the appliques on the skirt and it puckered a bit until I reduced the tension. I should have used stabilizer, but I didn't want it to be too stiff.

Oh Karen, how scary for you guys. :hug: I'll be praying for all of you. Have they picked out a name for the little guy yet? One of my friends had a very similar situation. She was severely dehydrated from not being able to keep anything down. She was hospitalized with an IV and started contracting. They stopped the contractions, etc... She went on to have a healthy, full term little girl.

Well it looks like my pocket book will be a little bit safer. We had our ultrasound today and we are expecting a baby BOYpirate: . And most importantly he is healthy party: . What a fierce King/dragon slayer!! You did a WONDERFUL job on this!! I feel for you with the satin/penne velvet combo. Tessa's costume has a satin lining and is penne velvet on the outside. Talk about SLIPPERY!! I had all the same problems as you with the right sides together. I thought about trashing it and buying her a costume several times!

Congratulations: I am so happy that everything is going well for you! I hear that Jacob is an excellent name for a boy! :thumbsup2
LOL! It is a nice name- just very popular! I was at the dentist yesterday and a guy in there was saying that he has 2 grandkids- Jacob and Emily. I had to chuckle, #1 in popularity for boys and #1 in popularity for girls! They're both very nice names, I guess that's why they're so popular!

Very cute! I always wondered how time consuming it would be to applique a lot of writing. I haven't tried it yet.

Is there a trick to turning fabric tubes? I sewed some long straps and I turned one of them right-side out last night and it took me forever and was very frustrating!
I don't know, but I thought I should ask the last time I was trying to do this! I used a pencil with an eraser on the end to try and draw the fabric through the tube, if that makes any sense. It still took a while.

Ok I did something really stupid! :sad2: I made a Donald Duck outfit for my DD4 and on the shirt I was putting two pieces of fabric, just square pieces and a Donald Duck fabric applique! I was going to stitch around the squares but not the Donald applique. My problem is I accidentally used Ultra Bond on the fabric and now I can't stitch around it and it is so stiff! Is there any way to salvage this mess?:confused3 I really hate to trash it! Someone please help me!

Wow - that is scary. I would like to offer some of my personal experience with early contractions - maybe it will help ease your mind a little. I started having regular contractions at about 30 weeks. I was hospitalized twice to stop them and the second time they kept me on the meds to be safe. They must have just been Braxton Hixs (sp) contractions because when they took me off the meds to start things I didn't go into labor on my own - we waited two weeks then I had to be induced - and then a C-section. I know that dehydration causes contractions so I am praying that it is all fixed now that they hydrated her. :goodvibes

I used Ultra once not realizing how much it gums up the sewing needle. I ended up peeling off the applique pieces and making new ones. The garment I was working on was still usable because I made sure the new appliques covered where the old ones were (some fusible was still on the garment).

If you want to leave it "as is" you can outline the appliques with puffy fabric paint or something else non-sew. That way when it's washed, the edges won't fray or lift.

I was inspired by Lisa (lisazoe) to try making a pettiskirt. I'm skeered! Very, very skeered! I ordered the nylon chiffon (suggested in the YCMT pattern). I was hoping it would take a very, very long time to come in so that I would have an excuse. NO, it's here today! SO, I guess I'm gonna have to give it a try. I've got two sets to finish for customers (very little to do to finish). Then I'm going in! Head first! If you guys don't hear from me in a few days, send someone in after me!

I'm not sure if this place has prints or not. I purchased from
www.murielleroy.com
I did get a slip of paper in my order that says that they're having a sale November 14-16 (15% off) and then again December 3-5 (15% off)
I paid $2.75 a yard, which I don't guess is bad, but with the yardage required for a pettiskirt, I'd love to find a source that may be less.

I think you just helped me solve Kirsta's Xmas or Bday present. She is constantly asking me if she can help, or what she can work on. I have one from when I was kid, it's in the attic somewhere. But it's a nightmare. It's a Singer and did a chain stitch, which always came unraveled.

That's the place I found. The price is pretty good but it does add up with the yardage needed. I used 5.5 yards on Zoe's for her costume and probably would use 6 - 7 to get the fullness I was aiming for.

That turned out fantastic! I would love to see that show myself!
Is there a trick to turning fabric tubes? I sewed some long straps and I turned one of them right-side out last night and it took me forever and was very frustrating!
Get a skinny wooden dowel, and do it about the same way Heather said with the pencil. You put the end of the fabric over the end of the dowel, and then inch the fabric down over the dowel. Once you get it a little way, you can just push the dowel, and the fabric will turn nicely. My Mom always stitched a piece of cording or yarn to the end of the tube, then stitched it inside when she was sewing it up, and pulled that. I could never get that method to work quite right though.

There are also commercial products available. Here is a demonstration of the Dritz tube turner: http://sewlil.blogspot.com/2007/08/dritz-quick-turn-fabric-tube-turners.html

I've never tried that, but it looks like it would make it very easy to do.

Happy Halloween everyone!

Had to share a pic of the kiddos - I've posted the scary princess before, but here's both of them.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y237/lorib587/halloween1.jpg

Now I've got to tell you about my genious albeit cheezy Halloween getup. Some of you may have noticed that I'm an RN (you know, it's been in my signature for what? like 3 whole days or something.) Anyhoo, as I'm getting the kids dressed, I had a lightbulb moment. Caleb was a pirate last year, so I'll just borrow an eyepatch and his pirate hat (yes, I shoved my big ol' head into his pirate hat) wear a pair of scrubs, my stethoscope, and I'll be - are you ready for this - an ARRRRRRRRN. :lmao: I told you it was cheezy!

So, since I dressed up, I made DH dress up also. You know that episode of friends where Joey steals all of Chandler's clothes and wears them all? That was DH tonight! I made him go around saying "I'm Chandler - could I BE wearing anymore clothes?" Needless to say, I don't think anyone got either of our costumes, but we amused ourselves.

Hope everyone had a fun night!

I think you just helped me solve Kirsta's Xmas or Bday present. She is constantly asking me if she can help, or what she can work on. I have one from when I was kid, it's in the attic somewhere. But it's a nightmare. It's a Singer and did a chain stitch, which always came unraveled.
It seems the Singer kid's machines are just as bad as they used to be. I read through the reviews on amazon and from what I can see DON'T buy a Singer kid's sewing machine! The Hello Kitty one had the best reviews. Actually, it was the only one with good reviews.

Just want to pop in a give a big THANK YOU to everyone here that said a little prayer for my DD yesterday. She and baby Robert Henry are doing just fine. She even went back to work today.

It just amazes me how wonderfully supportive and caring you all are here. It sure makes life managable knowing that there are real people that give a stitch about others! And, it's just plain nice that you can come here, share a concern and that people will care enough to do something about it! Why, it makes me feel good about people in general! :hug:
Oh, I'm so glad she's doing all right and the baby is okay, too!! My husband's name is Henry, so I'm rather fond of the baby's name!

I think your costumes were absolutely hilarious!!!! I'm am still giggling about DH's costume! That is one of my two all-time favorite Friends episodes (the other one being the Thanksgiving episode where Joey gets the turkey stuck on his head). Did you have him do lunges in all the clothes, too? :rotfl: ARRRRRRN- TOO funny!!!

LOL, but was DH going "commando" for authenticity? :happytv: I think your costumes were very creative. I like to pick ones that take a little thought. One year I wore black leggings and turtleneck then took a large clear plastic bag, made leg and arm holes in it, filled it with wadded white tissue paper before tying around the neck with raffia... few people guessed that I was dressed as white trash. :rolleyes1

I'm glad you guys "get" our humor. One house obviously did not understand what DH was - as the man was handing out candy to the kids, he looked at DH and said "you'll get your cut later, big guy." And no, DH was not completely "authentic" although he did do a few lunges!

My bestest costume for myself was the year I took a pair of sweatpants, put Smarties candies all over tham and went as a "smarty pants". I tend to be a smarty pants anyway, but that just made it official.

Here are some picture of our festivities tonight. I didn't make Sawyer's costume, but he's so darn cute and I don't get to post pictures of him nearly enough! Tessa was done trick or treating in 1/2 hour. But, when we tried to get Sawyer to let go of the candy bucket, he let out an unearthly screech. :rotfl: So, Henry took him to some more houses while Tessa went inside. When she saw how full her brother's bucket was, she changed her mind. But, it was too late!

Aww, Heather, your little ones are so cute! Love Mickey and the fairy costume is gorgeous! Smarty pants! I would have eaten all the candy, then I would have been just regular pants!

Most people probably think I'm a big ol' geek, but I like having fun with the kids on Halloween. Last year Ella was a goldfish and I dressed up as a fisherman. This was the first year I could get DH to dress up, though. I've got to start brainstorming for next year so maybe I won't have to throw something together at the last minute!

It starred Elmo, telly, the count zoe and abby cadabby (who I only just heard of last week- we only get 1 channel in our house)There were pics w/ telly and the count too but zoe and abby went in after the performance :confused3

I am loving seeing everyone's kiddos dressed for Halloween! I did however wake up this morning very happy that all of the Halloween hoopla is over!!!!! I swear that Halloween is reaching Christmas level celebrations around here! We had 4 parties that the girls dressed up for and I was sooooooo sick of their costumes that I had to force myself to act excited to get them dressed last night.

I am uploading my pics right now. Unofortunately I have dial up so it will be sometime next week before I can share my pics!

So happy to hear that the baby is doing well. I know how scary it is when you have an issue in pregnancy. I hope the mommy (and Gradma) can relax and enjoy just being excited to have baby Robert (was that the name????) in her arms soon!

Wanted to share a pic of the kiddos all dressed up for Trick or Treat. Max's bear costume was from the Land's End outlet way back before he was even born ( MIL bought it) but it was def. warm and comfy! Laila got a lot of comments on her Cowgirl- and she kept tipping her hat at people!!

She actually wore a diff. Halloween outfit everyday- now to start on fall/Thanksgiving!!

Sort of OT- but has anyone had problems with the tulle from the tutus - like condensing and not being nearly as puffy? I used the tulle on a roll from Hobby Lobby and it totally deflated. Do you think ironing the strips on low and spray starching them would bring it back to life?

Ah, all the kids (and costumes) look great! I'm feeling mixed about Halloween being over - I love all the excitement from kids when they get to dress up (with or without candy as incentive) but I'm wiped out from all the activities. I do want to add that I whipped up a simple appliqued ghost sweatshirt for myself yesterday between when Zoe went to school and I went to help with the harvest party.

Now, though, I'm definitely ready to move on to the next holidays. :)

They are tooooo cute! Your little boy is adorable and Tessa looks beautiful as always!

Hello All!

They are tooo cute!

Here are my darlings in their Halloween costumes.

The girls:

The boy (showing off his muscles):

Hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween. Now back away from your kid's Trick or Treat bag. :) (or maybe that's just me).

Love the costumes and your kids are so cute! And no its not just you! :scared:
