OK, so be gentle! This is my FIRST attempt at sewing and using a pattern! My MIL usually does all the sewing, but I have her so loaded down doing other vacation outfits, I thought I'd try a simple on on my own. Nothing fancy AT ALL, but I'm happy that I actually finished it!

Alikat – where did your mom get the mickey hands and head fabric? It looks like that sheet set we were discussing the other day.
Yep, you got it! It's the sheet fabric from Disneyshopping.com.

Okay, any Little Einstein fans out there? This was a long planned, long discussed project for my daughter. The help I got on this was amazing. One of the frequent posters here sewed the jeans and top. Her work is amazing, and I actually got teary eyed when I saw everything. She truly went "above and beyond" to make a little girls 3rd birthday PERFECT!!!

This isn't one of my DDs, but my niece who was "modeling" the finished product before my mom (Nana) sent them to the girls. I was so excited, I just couldn't wait for them to just be mailed!!:lmao:

I don't have a pic of the back, but it has a zipper up the back, with a red/white polka dot tie in the middle of the back. Really cute!

Thank you... that dress is stunning... wow... I simply adore it...

I just wanted to add that I get my striped tights (black/white, orange/black, red/white) tights at Target every year. They are waaay cheaper than the Childrens Place.

Do they usually have them out for Halloween? Are they usually in the Halloween section or just the socks/hosery section? Thanks!

My Local JoAnn's had them last year ... I haven't had time to check again this year yet, but I remember the packages had $2.99 printed on them as this regular price. They were regular thickness, not too thin. :)

These places offer them for $6-8 ... (+shipping?)
http://www.halloweenstreet.com/Accessories/StockingsPantyhoseAndShoeCover/
http://www.welovecolors.com/Shop/KidsTights.htm
http://www.halloweenexpress.com/striped-tights-choices-p-8189.html
Here's the search I made to find those places. (http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0geu6RL2bBGtN8AgwhXNyoA?p=%22HALLOWEE N%22+%22STRIPED+TIGHTS%22&y=Search&fr=yfp-t-501)

When I find seriously groovy tights, that are not in children's sizes = I sometimes use a small adult size tights on my 5yr old ... I just stitch off a bit of the leg/foot&trim ... they fit her just fine, in the legs ... sometimes, they are a bit long in the torso, but manageable. :) good luck.

My DD was two last year. I was able find older girls tights but nothing that would come close to fitting her. Last year she was a 3T. She planned on being Dorothy for Halloween but, when we got to Target she wanted to be the witch instead. She wore a black witch costume, hat, broom, black and white tights and ruby red slippers.

Thanks! I am glad you liked it. I am thinking my girls need them too! Oh well, what is two more shirts. hahaha

Ok, I've been gone all day, and I haven't caught up yet, so I'm not sure if my mom already answer this. Anyway, I think that she did so most of the pirate scarves by hand.
The one thing that is a bit different about these scarves are that they aren't appliqued on, they are more "3D", I guess you could say. I think that she tucked one piece of fabric under the mickey head, then gathered and knotted the fabric and they hand-stitched it all the way around. I'll see if I can take a close up of the pirate mickey head.

Okay, I'm only 70 pages behind now, I must catch up today! :rotfl:

I hit my nearest Joanne's this morning and they must have restocked or something because they had tons of Disney fabrics that I'd never seen in store. Novelty/Licensed fabrics are currently 30% off, but I've spent a fortune in the last month on sewing (including a new machine!) so I didn't buy my usual 3 yards and really tried to by what I "needed." I thought I'd share what I found and my plans, though my next project is another halloween tulle skirt, third time's the charm, right?

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u224/tarazandra/DSC00715.jpg
I plan to do an apron dress for my 8 year old with this one (I got the inspiration from here). I think I'll edge it in white and go for a mod look.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u224/tarazandra/DSC00714.jpg
I was unsure on this one, I'm thinking shorts for the 2 year old with a spaghetti strap top. Nothing too fancy as it seems more casual summer days so I'll probably save it and make it a 3T for next year.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u224/tarazandra/DSC00713.jpg
Another Pooh print. This one I like, but have no idea what to do with it? Any suggestions? I didn't buy a lot, but it's for the 2 year old so I don't really need a lot.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u224/tarazandra/DSC00710.jpg
Last Pooh print. It's really busy and takes getting used to so I'm just going to use it in a bodice for a dress for the 2 year old and then the skirt will be complimenting colors with maybe Easter Eggs appliqued along the edge. Aren't I ambitious, I've yet to applique anything! Obviously this one can wait in my stash for a while.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u224/tarazandra/DSC00711.jpg
Another really busy one. Same plan as above, it will just be used in a bodice, but for my 8 year old and no Easter Eggs since it will just be a summer dress.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u224/tarazandra/DSC00709.jpg
Saw it and grabbed it. I whole heartedly plan to copy the t-shirt and jeans outfit that was shown on this board a while ago. I loved that idea and so will my 8 year old.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u224/tarazandra/DSC00716.jpg
Not Disney, but I  this fabric so much I could not pass it by. I'm thinking apron dress over white capris for the 2 year old.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u224/tarazandra/DSC00708.jpg
Another apron dress, I think. Not sure if the little one or the big one will get it. Can you tell I like that apron dress pattern?

There were other fabrics, 3 more Pooh prints, one of which I have, and 3 other Mickey prints (I have 1), Cars, and 1 or 2 Nemo. I think that's it.

So I'm hoping to be caught up today and then can participate more with the commenting. I just don't want to comment on something that was posted so long ago unless it was directed at me personally. But I have loved everything I've seen and have received loads more inspiration. Thanks again!

LisaZoe : LOVE IT! Wonderful Work! :)

RUFFLE FOOT ATTACHMENT ... Two pieces of fabric go under/through the foot at the same time = literally, Ruffling the Top Layer AND Sewing it to the flat bottom layer, at the same time.
Most are fully adjustable, too = fine gathers or more of a pleated look ...
WONDERFUL INVENTION! Make sure to try it someday! :)
(*Check out those links to the picture tutorials = Very Helpful!)
Have Fun!

I should add that I don't yet ruffle and stitch to the other fabric at the same time. I haven't totally worked out how to adjust my ruffler foot so it gathers at the same rate each time. I run the piece to be gathered through the ruffler first and then pin to the other piece and sometimes need to pull the gathering thread a little to get the two to fit exactly.

I've got to remember this ... hopefully I can find one today and start practicing.

I just got my smiles around the fabric today.. I love it so much I am so afraid to cut it lol.

I'm feeling the same way. Of course I've never sewn an actual OUTFIT, so my fear is pretty strong. Decided to let my daughter (she's three) pick out some fabric and I'm going to practice on a skirt. I have all the pieces cut, just need to brave sewing them together now!

I used to do the double row gathering for years until I finally bought a ruffler foot. It is so nice to have that! It's very noisy and a bit intimidating at first but well worth learning how to use it. Here's a close-up of a skirt I made using the ruffler foot for all gathering.

I do sew the cuffs to the shirts. I measure the shirt cuff, so say if it's 4 inches across, just double that amount, so you have a measurement of 8 inches.(then add a 1/2 for a seam allowance) Then measure how large you want the cuff to be, so say you want a 5 inch cuff, you also double that amount and add 1/2 inch for a seam allowance. So you will have a large rectangle that measures, 8 1/2 by 10 1/2. Fold the fur over on itself and sew the edge to make a sort of tube. Then open it up and fold wrong sides together to make a sort of donut shape. The raw edge will be sewn to the sleeve. I baste the fur first, before I sew it onto the sleeve. I pull the fur donut up and over the sleeve and pull the sleeve through, and match up the edge of the sleeve with the basted edge of the donut, and then stitch and zig-zag, then you just fold down the fur and you can top stitich, but I usually don't. This is something I will be posing pictures of soon. I want to start making these, but want to get through summer vacation first...LOL

Thank you so much for taking the time to give me these directions. I THINK I understand :) So you do not cut the shirt? You leave it the pre-made length, and the fur cuff is over top of it, so the shirt is what is touching her arms? Did I understand that right? I think that makes since, since the fur would be a little warm against the skin. I can't wait to see the pictures. I understand wanting to get through summer. I have a list of things I will do "after summer". It seems like my kids think we have to do something fun everyday. They go to sleep wanting to know what we are doing tomorrow, and the first thing they want to know when they get is up is what we are doing today :confused3 They are driving me nuts!

dreamer - I didn't even notice that was Mickey head fabric until Utah posted it again.
We went to JoAnn's last night and couldn't find any cute disney. :(

I bought it quite a while ago and it is a very bright green. Then I went back and they had the teal green out with the disney fabrics. It matched perfectly and toned down the brightness. Then someone on this thread recommended this pattern and Tada! I had a shirt. I think it would look cute with some tan fabric and animal print on the ruffle. You can also make the pattern without the ruffles. It ties around the waist. I am so glad someone here suggested it I wish I could remember who it was. It is Butterick B4469

Thank you :flower3:

My Joann's doesn't have any more either. I have looked at two other Joann's here around Atlanta for this fabric and another Disney fabric (the one with the dots and Mickey and Minnie) Neither one of them had it either. They sell out quick!

Our Joann's here in town had some tinkerbell and some winnie the pooh. They also had some new flannels.

I am scared they won't have anything new until spring. Hmmm we'll see.

Usually they are in the girls section with the tights and underwear. Every Halloween and Christmas they have them out.

Hope this helps!

What would that be called? Do I need a special foot? Is it just a certain type of stitch?

I am so sorry for all of the questions lately. I have a huge pile of fabric waiting on me to start an outfit for the Wiggles live show. I never found Wiggles fabric, so I ordered appliqués from Australia and I am going to do an apron shirt with the appliqués on the front (ruffles on along the bottom) and I am doing the back in patchwork with all of the wiggles colors. I would love to use the crazy ruffle in the patchwork part. Please help. This will be my first attempt at an entire outfit. I don't want my DD to look silly :) I am also putting the ruffle on the bottom of the capri’s and putting appliqués on the legs. Does that sound cute?

I tried to attach the scarf to the head before I appliqued the Mickey head but I wasn't sure how to applique the Mickey head on after that.

So I thought I would ask.

I call the edge finish a rolled hem and do it on my serger. It's basically just thread wrapped tightly around the edge with the cut part of the fabric rolled under before the stitches are made. (Hope that made sense!) If you have a serger, your instruction book should tell how to set up your machine to do that stitch - it's very simple. Also, I did use the ruffler foot to gather the ruffles I applied to the front of the skirt as well as each tier of the skirt itself. I don't yet gather and sew all at once as I'm not sure I can get my ruffler adjusted correctly.

There is so much going on I just can't keep up while I'm at work, I'm gonna have to get a computer at home.

TOTALLY OT: How many of you, that do custom autograph books, actually use a book and how many of you take clipboards & notecards so you can put them into a more elaborate book later?? Looking for ideas for both ( i have the pdf of the individual character pages)

and back on topic, I found an old mickey mouse twin sheet at good will and since it was $2 HAD to buy it thought I might make myself a dress or a skirt. See, what you've done to me... I'm off to my mom's to make a tank top for me out of a guys oxford shirt to wear out to my DH's gig tomorrow night. I keep wearing the same thing over and over so I decided a reconstruction was in order. I'll keep you posted, though it's not a dis thing.

Thank you everyone for the great comments about the pitare tutu outfit.
basically it is two layers of fabric and in between I sew a gathered layer of tulle. the waist band is a simple one. then I trim edges and sew a closed seam on all the edges to make it all even!

I am the one who made the autograph book pdf. I highly suggest binding it before you go. Since there are so many cards it is easy to keep them together. We used plastice binding so we could remove pages. Each night we removed the autographs we found that day. The book became smaller everyday. Also, when we got home we took out the blank pages. Have fun with your autograph seeking.

It is an adorable outfit. Are the two layers of fabric gathered, or are they circular? How do you figure out the waist size?

I actually use a modified version from YCMT and then I took my kdis measurements and worked from there. the skirts are cirular. two pieces of fabric then sewed together to make a circular skirt. the YCMT skirt is more squared, I found by adding a wast band that was an inch or two bigger than the waist it was easy to make it more fitted. only the tulle is gathered.
does that make any sense?

I bought the ruffler foot about 30 minutes ago. Okay -- now what do I do? I've been learning by watching a video/this board/ on-line sites/ and a book... this foot looks really weird... does it just automatically make the ruffle? Sorry for the maybe stupid & obvious questions.

Oop...trying to PM.....

I know I said it before, but Geez, that is so adorable! I love the cows with bandana fabric. I need a good excuse to buy some little cowgirl boots for my dd.

Makes me want to try something cool like that. I can see that at Hoop dee doo or the Backyard BBQ. Very Fun. :cutie:

OKay, I do believe I have gotten the hidden hem stitch down-pat. I'm thinking that's a great skill to possess. Also, It occurred to me to use a different color bobbin thread than needle thread if sewing layers. I love the "light bulb moments" that are common sense and make life much easier.

And, I have remembered to wash and dry and press my fabric before sewing. Little Sewing 101 hints and tips.

Thanks everyone for posting your creations! I can't tell you how inspired I am from everyone's beautiful work! You inspire me to think outside of my comfort zone and I get a kick out of every tiny improvement!

I love shopping on "that auction site". Am I allowed to share a cool boutique? I think it was called "The Pedal Pushers" or something. She has a good eye for color and lines. I love her pillowcase dresses, and she is for sure a huge Disney fan. Is she one of you? :)

That is the book I bought too. It is really great. I took it to the pool last night. Smocing is just going to an activity that is practiced. I see all of my imperfections and they are driving me crazy!!!

I have learned you have to be really careful about lining up your stitches and you have to keep your needle very straight. It takes a lot of patience. Check to see if they have a pleater at the store. You can get any fabric pleated- even just to practice.

My Tiny Nay plates are still not here. Hopfully they will come soon!!! Here is some of what she has to offer.

I looked up those plates when you posted the link earlier. They're pretty cute.

I have other things going on so I'm not in a rush to practice, I know I won't want to stop when I do. If they don't have any inserts this weekend, I will have them pleat some fabric for me. They do that for a small fee.

I'm so far behind on this thread and so many beautiful outfits have been posted.

Linda, all I can say is fantastic work!!

I'm looking for graphics that I can print off the computer and use to make a book for my kids. They like to name the characters on Playhouse Disney, so I thought I'd print some pictures and make them little flip books of the characters we'll be seeing in September. They'll be almost 2 when we go, so it's important to me that the characters are familiar and not so scary.

I thought someone had posted a link to good graphics a while back, but I don't have time to search back through 500 pages of postings. Any suggestions?

Well, this isn't a set I made for my daughter but here's a better view of the whole thing. I hesitated posting it just because I feel odd sharing a pic of another person's child - even if she sent the photos to me for that kind of thing. I cropped it tight so it's harder to recognize her... but I'll probably delete the image in a few days anyway.

BTW - Thanks to all who have complimented my work! I don't want to ignore those compliments but I also don't want to flood the thread with my posts of thanks. :)

WOW! Lisa, that outfit is just beautiful!!!!! I soooooo wish I could sew like you guys. Well, actually it's not just the sewing. I think eventually I could get all the mechanics down so that I will be able to sew decently. But, I just cannot put together fabrics and pull the whole outfit together like this. Is Jo Jo appliqued? Wal-mart just had some very colorful prints they got with the minnie dot fabric for costumes. I saw it and thought it would be great for JoJo!

Then I came home and there it was. She made the adorable clown costumes for her boys out of it. (I'm sorry I don't remember her name) I leave on Friday or I would go back and search. I have a few more outfits to finish up while my kids are playing with their cousin. Anyways you may like those new fabrics at Wal-Mart.

If putting the fabrics together is really your issue, then just go to a quilt shop. They usually have the fabrics together by collections that are pre-mixed and matched! Plus any lady I ever met in a quilt shop was just itching to help somebody pick out fabrics!!!!!! They live for that! It is a little more $$$ per yard, but the quality is usually excellent and if you just buy the amount you need, you aren't really spending all that much more. I think that most sewers (me especially) probably spend more than they need to by buying too much of a fabric. I always overspend when I go out without specific plans. I just panic and shout out "5 yards"!!!!!!

I am sooo impressed with all of you! I actually got so excited recently seeing everyone's work that for a brief moment I considered going out a buying a sewing machine and teaching myself how to do all this. Then I sat down and smacked myself in the head for being so foolish. We all have our own roles to play, and mine is definitely a BUYER, not a maker!

Anyway, kudos once again and hats off to all the great talents on this thread!:cheer2:

Ahh, it is so nice to deal with Disney fans. When I made this book a few years ago and showed it too my coworkers, they said, "what is the spoon for?" Duh, have you seen the movie? Anyway, the spoon was in a set made by Jolee's. I think it had a fork and knife in it also, but I only used the spoon. I'm sure Barbie borrowed the other utensils!:rotfl:

Hi! Nana to the rescue...TaDa!!! Ok, to get the 3D effect I did tiny little stitches(by hand) along the TOP /sides of the scarf up to the knot. I made sure that the longer stitches ended up in back of the applique head and the tiny stitches in the front, catching only a thread or two of the scarf fabric before going into the back of the appliqued head. then I tacked down the knot but left the "bottom of the scarf loose I thought it looked more 3D that way. Nana:cheer2:

I really liked hers a lot because they are "3 D" I have the Mickey head appliqued onto the shirts already. I studied her pictures and you can't see any of the stitching! I tried to attach the scarf to the head before I appliqued the Mickey head but I wasn't sure how to applique the Mickey head on after that.

So I thought I would ask.

I have the little red scarfs sewn ie hemmed and I did a little half circle to gather it up but I haven't attached them yet. Any tips?

I custom make an autograph book for my DD for every trip. I am truly a scrapbooker, but hang out on this thread because I am also obsessed with custom outfits. The attention my daughter gets from the autograph books is amazing. I have had characters carry it off to show another character their page. It makes my daughter feel special and I am beaming from ear to ear!
Here are a couple of photos.

I handmade custom autograph books for my kids last trip, too. Can you tell me how you made the pages b/f going? Did you leave them pretty general and then embellished later or did you just bring the paper on a clipboard?

I had the characters sign a piece of cardstock that was put w/ temporary adhesive in the pages of the book. Then I took them out to rearrange and add photos. This trip, I thought I'd bring their custom clipboards with cardstock and add them to the book from last year, but now I'm thinking, maybe I should do entire new books!?? I haven't finished the family 12x12 yet, though!! OMg... so much to do!

The first one in the picture is a paper bag album, so I made the clipboard to support it. The second one is made from chipboard, so it was very sturdy. I premake the pages for characters I am fairly sure I will see and then just bring tags for the extra characters. I don;t add pages to the books when I get home. I have only made one page out of 4 books that we never saw the character. But I really plan out what characters we are going to see. Somewhere it is posted with all of the characters and the likely hood of seeing them, along with the best place to find them. Let me know if you have anymore questions!

I put together a tulle tutu skirt, didn't like how it looked. Took it ALL apart to start over. Tried again, took it apart and was about to trash the whole thing. Then I got advice from someone definitely more experienced and thought I knew what to do. I got all my pieces cut (again!) then gathered the tulle and pinned it in place and was just about to stitch it down when I noticed I pinned the entire thing to the wrong side of the fabric :headache:

So, I walked out of my sewing room with it still lying on the floor, locked the door (dgd is visiting and can't understand why Nana won't let her play with pins!) and vowed not to touch it until tomorrow. I'm spending the day with my Granny so she can see dgd and probably criticize every inch of the matching dresses I made today for dd2 and dgd2 to wear. :sad2:

Anyway, I wanted to finish that skirt today, but instead got two dresses done. I will post pics tomorrow after I actually get them on the models.

FYI- if anyone is thinking of using stripe tights for Halloween now is time to start looking. Everywhere on the internet and on land was sold out of black and white stripe tights last year. I ended begging to buy a pair of a website. They cost me $30. Oh well, you cannot be the Wicked Witch of the West without black and white tights!

See, I knew I forgot something...I cut the shirt. I have them put it on, and measure from their underarm to their wrist, and then measure the shirt sleeve to see how much I have to take off....I promise the pictures will be better than me trying to explain it...LOL....

How do you easily thread the thread thru the Q foot?
It's a pain in the rear!
Especially if you have lots of color changes.

Is the Q foot the one with the hole in the bottom...LOL...I get the thread as close as possible and raise the presser foot up the extra little amount it lets you and use tweezers to grab the thread. Yup...it's a pain. It takes me longer to do that than embroider the design...

I love the kitty fabrics sooo sweet. Why are you gathering by hand?

I always run two sets of stitching along the edge with the widest setting a basting stitch and then just pull the strings. It works okay for me. I kind of slide the gathers around until the ruffle is the length you want and then tie them. Then you can slide them around more to make them even.

I think the trick is to only pull one set of strings. I pull the top strings which is the thread from the top of the machine. I don't pull the underside which I think is the thread from the bobbin.

Well, I have saved all DS clothes that seemed like they could pass for DD. I had no big plans for them, then I found you all :) So, I dressed up some 18 month overalls - Maybe she can wear them to CP breakfast in Nov.
My sewing skills are basic and I think I am now better with my seem ripper than almost anything else, but I am happy with the outcome.

I was thinking that I would cover the whole top panel of the overalls with the pooh fabric, but it never worked out for me, is there a secret to that folks? I added the piping (red) to the bib part (second pic) and am thinking of adding it to the pant leg cuff, but I am not sure.

Very cute! I did my overalls the same way. I don't know how you could cover it up because the buttons are in the way.

You did a great job and the piping is pretty.

I'll have to keep that in mind if we find Mary Poppins. I may have to scraplift if you don't mind!

I'll be on the look out for the Jolee's table ware! Is the spoon made of paper?

Oh thank you that helps! Might I ask what color thread looks best? Red like the scarf? Or Black like my Mickey Head? I do have some clear nylon thread too. Any recommendations?

Ok, my name is Aimee and I bought way too much Minnie dot at Walmart. I feel so much better now. Should we also say the serenity prayer!:cutie:

A couple of days ago I bought five yards. I am only planning on doing two pillowcase dresses. Today I went back and asked for five more and when she got to five I said give me it all! 10 yds 20 in. So I have 15 yds 20 in for two pillowcase dresses!!!!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

AIMEE! I just now got a few yards!!! OH NOOOO! It's perfect! AND $2.00 a yard!

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one project at a time;
Or cheat and buy it on "that popular auction site";
Accepting the $78.00 brother from Walmart is good enough for now
Even though I have to make ruffles by hand like a caveman...
Trusting that dd will love anything I make
or wear it anyway;
That I may be reasonably happy with each completed project
and show it off to my new friends
Even if they're WAY better
Amen.

P.S. I 'm so scared to wash the Minnie fabric! What if my white dots turn pink????Then I'll have a nifty valentine's dress!!!!

Since Hancock's 99 cent Mc Calls patterns are probably picked through by now, take your Hancock ad to Walmart! The match ads!!!!! Be sure and get the specific non-excluded McCalls patterns though. Me and Spongie went tonight. I took my DH and he got 5 patterns and I got 5. This calls for a banana dance!

I'm by no means an expert but I'm enjoying the experience of refining my technique. :) I'd say the best way to get good results is practice - sorry, I know that's boring and sounds like a mom. I started with simple shapes, like squares, hearts, daisies, etc. and progressed from there. I finally took the "plunge" in December to try more complex designs. Here's a close-up of a t-shirt I did for my DD this spring. I did as much as possible with my sewing machine, including stitching around all the pieces of the eyes, and then added the finishing details by hand, like the black line and eyelashes on the top edge of each eye and a brown line on the lower edge, the line to show the nose and the eyebrows. I figure if DD wears it a lot, it's successful. :dance3:

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c368/zoe_diva/applique1.jpg

That is awesome! Practice? I really didnt want to hear that. I could practice everyday from now until I leave and still not get this good. Can we just adopt you into the family? That just seems to be a more realistic idea.:rotfl2:

I was tempted to buy those jeans. I might have to buy them now, since I'd be able to wear 2 sizes smaller than normal. Will they print the size on the outside of the pants for me, do you think? ;) Do they fit bigger in the waist, legs, butt, or just all over?

Magic jeans? I want a pair! Leave it to Disney to come up with the idea. Did any of you buy the mickey bathing suit. Holy cow! I never would have believed I could have worn the size I ended up with. It was awesome!:thumbsup2

You did a great job on Ariel's face for it being so small. It's better than what I've been able to do. :thumbsup2

Yes, there are things you just have to do to get those machines to work. :rotfl2:

OK, so be gentle! This is my FIRST attempt at sewing and using a pattern! My MIL usually does all the sewing, but I have her so loaded down doing other vacation outfits, I thought I'd try a simple on on my own. Nothing fancy AT ALL, but I'm happy that I actually finished it!

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y163/hlauburn/greenmickey.jpg

The ruffles are SO bad, but if she moves real fast and you aren't too close up, I think don't anyone will notice! ;)

Wow, for the first time that is fantastic! I love your color choices.

Great job on the fabric with all the hellos on it, and the kitty material. :thumbsup2 And I did buy the whole bolt of that dotted fabric. Okay, I'll admit it. I'm a little obsessed, okay, alot. :rotfl2:
The Serenity prayer? Okay, I will accept that the need for me to purchase material is something I cannot change. Now here's mine;)

Sewing prayer:
Please God, do not let me embarass my children with the clothes I sew and make them wear against their will. Hold tight the seams and do not let them come apart thus scarring my children for life until after our trip is over. And please Lord let them know what to do with the numerous bolts of material that they will inherit instead of the DVC I could have spent the money on. And lastly, do not let the fabric shrink or the color run if we are caught in a freak rain storm since I didn't remember to prewash all my fabrics. Amen

2 down 14 to go.

I just cannot put together fabrics and pull the whole outfit together like this.

Well, I have way too many fabric choices on hand so often late at night I start pulling out some prints to try together. I used to be concerned about putting things together if they didn't match exactly in color so loved when I'd find a line of prints at the fabric store that had a variety of coordinates. I've reached a point now, though, where I try to avoid using too many prints from the same line because they match too well. I know, I'm weird. :rotfl:

Is Jo Jo appliqued? LOVE it. I so wish I had something like this last fall for my dd!

Yes, she is appliqued on the t-shirt. I dabbled in painting on jeans and tees for awhile but finally decided in December to go beyond simple shapes for applique... and wish I'd tried it sooner! Now I just wish my DD had a Disney trip in the future so she could wear all the clothes I've made for her. ;)

I have a dum question for ya. I have a cheapo brother sewing machine Dh got me for my birthday a few years ago. (Apparently he is under the impression that I want expensive things and never use them! :rotfl2: ) Anyway, my question is are most sewing machine feet universal? I am always scared to go into the sewing maching part of the stores. Maybe I am afraid I will walk out with a $4000 serger or something.

The foot on mine just kind of clicks into place. I think I remember the one on my mom's having to kind of screw in. I would love a ruffler foot, some kind of clear or quilting foot for applique and a walking foot. I have no idea what that last one is but it sounds cool. :rotfl:

One more question about the scrapbook embroidered embellishments. I have a TON of them in my scrapbook stash that I'd like to use. How do you attach them? Do you sew through them? You don't just stick them on, right? I would think they would fall off? I'd like to whip those bad boys out and use them!

Don't know if this is right or not -- but I put mine on the heavy heat n bond (the one I bought by mistake for appliques). They have been on for about 6 days and I've tried to pull them off and I can't. I'm hoping they hold. I will wash the pants inside out on my hand wash cycle.

AgentPleakley – What a cute outfit! I’m going to try appliqué this weekend.

Tnmom and others – I haven’t started working with my tulle yet. Don’t scare me!

But last night was NOT fun.
The embroidery bobbin thread that came with the machine kept winding wrong.
I now have some of it stuck on the bobbin holder.
Eek!

Between that and threading the stupid Q foot, I was not pleased. I wanted the embroidery part to be fun! Not tedious.

I also bought some socks and I don’t think I can embroider directly on them.
Has anyone had any luck cutting out the embroidery and attaching it to something else?
Can you do it like an appliqué?

Castle – thanks for letting me know I’m not crazy, it really is as hard as it seems. My mom’s idea was bee’s wax, but I think that will be just one more step and I don’t want it to rub off on what I’m working on.
I definitely need to buy an extra pair of tweezers for my sewing kit.

And we definitely need oversewers anonymous. I can’t concentrate at work!
I’m picturing ways to do a nemo appliqué right now!

Aimee – I only bought 3 yards of the Minnie dot. And I’m scared it’s not enough! I used less than half a yard to make the skirt for Jeanie and I’ll need maybe that much to make shorts/bloomers for my outfit.
But I feel like I should go buy all of it!

Danica – I love the Pooh overalls!!

Utah and Eeyore’s Tiara – I sooo need the prayers!

I wish I lived near Utah and Spongie! But I don’t wanna move to Utah. Why don’t y’all come to Nashville? :)

I made Tammy promise to intervene last night. I am not allowed to buy any more fabric to make Jeanie clothes. She’s not even ours! I have 6 outfits lined up for her plus the costume I bought at party city for MNSSHP (it’s a Cinderella ballerina and it was only $5!).
That’s plenty for our 12 night trip.
So no more!

And I have a confession.
I spent 19 dollars on 2 yards of fabric yesterday.
It has celery on it.
For me to make a shirt for our DIS meet.
How dumb is that?

You girls both crack me up.
I'm now spreading the disease to my girls. I bought them jean shorts the other day and my DD7 asked me what I was going to put on them :cheer2: . I hadn't planned anything but now I might.

I'm afraid when school starts and I can get to the fabric stores by myself what will happen. It won't be pretty.

My mom is a quilter so I'll be inheriting tons of fabric from her, but no DVC, oh well, at least she buys mickey fabric for me when she sees it  .

I'm also thinking about sewing in my sleeping, or wishing i was asleep after my DS comes into bed with us at 1:30am. I will show my sleep creation after I get the shirt done.

I'm sorry I'm so pitifully behind!! I've been busy (sewing and other stuff)

I have a plea....

Does anyone have just ONE YARD of this Mickey fabric?
http://www.tabberone.com/fabrics/d/Mickey/blue_checked_denim_sm.jpg

I decided to use it for a dress, but I'm short the fabric for the huge 'flutter' sleeves. Please tell me someone has some they'd be willing to part with! DH wants me to make the sleeves dark blue but I don't think that would look as good. (samples posted below)

If so, send me a PM please because I don't have a lot of time to read/keep up with this huge thread right now. I glance over posts, but am afraid I'd miss a reply.

Thanks SO much!

I'm not an Amy or a Lisa of any spelling but my name is Tifani and I buy too much fabric. Yes, ever caught in the proverbial "what if I theres not enough" state of mind.

For all of you out there complaining about your basic sewing machines or wishing you had something fancier...Last night I wanted to reconstruct an old mens oxford into a clever tank top for me(liked the thought of mixing the man-ly blue pinstripes w/ something girly)

My MIL has been busy w/ projects of her own. My machine is at my moms. I went to pick it up and she says, really it's acting up I should have it serviced for you- you can't use it now. BUT she has this handy dandy Singer my grand just picked up at a yardsale for 5 bucks ( I don't know it was that cheap but I do KNOW my Grand so I'm sure it wasn't more-it's possible it was free) I look at this ancient NO, WAIT.. IT'S VINTAGE machine and say, yeah but how do I change the stitch..you don't, my mother replies just the size of the stitch. NO zig zag. UM, I can' twork w/ this...SEW'S LIKE BUTTAH!!! and after reading the original 1941 handbook I see that among the 20 crazy attachments I found and have NO CLUE how to hook up- a RUFFLER!!

Now I'm not going to say to hell w/ a satin stitch this is the only machine I need, however I am going to be learning how to attach that darned ruffler!!!

My walmart section has it hanging over the "Buy the yard" ribbon. The coins are on a black trim.

Thanks! I found it, but didn't get any because it was $4 for 4 feet! I'm way too cheap for that! LOL!

The hang-bags will hold APPROX. up to 3-4-5lbs, but that's totally depending on the type of hangers & tape/bags, you use ... It works GREAT for patterns, bits of fabrics, unfinished projects, projects-to-do, etc. ;)
For YARD-S of FABRIC = try the mini-bolts in a stackable tub/bin or on a shelf. ... That should have your area straightened up in no time, and with little cost! Have Fun. :)

The link to the hangbags instructions has been added to the links page that's in my siggy, teresajoy's siggy, and the very first post in this thread. If you find any good links, just PM me or teresajoy and we'll get them added. Thanks!!

I'll keep you posted, though it's not a dis thing.

...t.

I would love to see pics of the tank top when it's done!

I too have found myself looking at used sheets at garage sales and such. I never thought I'd actually do that!

Just got back from Hancock (99 cents McCalls patterns, limit 5...I got back in line!!!)

I wish they were doing that sale online! Either that, or I wish we had a Hancocks around here!

UMama, DD wants that Kitty skirt! Now I will have to see if our WallyWorld has it or not. I think that they are slowly getting rid of the fabric dept., but I did notice some new stuff in there the other day while I was getting some notions!

If you haven't already, make sure you e-mail WalMart and urge them to keep the fabric departments. http://walmartstores.com/GlobalWMStoresWeb/navigate.do?catg=221
You can also call at 1-800-WALMART. Enough people complained about several of our local Walmarts getting rid of fabric, that they brought it back!

Well, I have saved all DS clothes that seemed like they could pass for DD. I had no big plans for them, then I found you all :) So, I dressed up some 18 month overalls - Maybe she can wear them to CP breakfast in Nov.

These turned out really cute! I never would have guessed they belonged to a boy at one time!

:cloud9: sweet dreams of fabric dancing in your heads and outfits to post on tommorows thread.:woohoo:

LOL! I go to bed every night and I can't sleep because the images of my fabric stash and all the possibilities keep going through my head.

It was my great great aunt's. She taught me to sew on it when I was little and left it to me.
I love that thing, but everytime I move, the people helping me hate it!

I just got the Hancock's ad in my e-mail and they have the 99 cent patterns online! Here's the link: http://www.hancockfabrics.com/category/viewAll.x/10/2712.html

They also have free shipping on orders over $25 with coupon code EFSZWD.

I haven't tried to combine the free shipping with the 99 cent patterns yet. But, I fully intend to!

ETA: The patterns pages are loading REEEEALLLY slow. I also realized it's still a limit of 5 patterns/person, so you'd have to find $20.05 in other items to get free shipping.

Wish I was sewing w/ you Elisa.. or that you were doing my sewing maybe. Yeah, that would be better. I still have to add the straps to my tank top and I'm trying to decide if I'm going to add some girly like lace or ruffle or somethin.

Of course once I get out of work I'll be in a mad dash to finish up, cause it's an hour away to where DH is playing. It may be a tube top if I don't have time:rotfl:

I have a plea....

Does anyone have just ONE YARD of this Mickey fabric?
http://www.tabberone.com/fabrics/d/Mickey/blue_checked_denim_sm.jpg

I don't have the fabric but I found this same print on some of those denim patch pieces...I don't know what they are called, but its over with the Heat n Bond, and is used for patching jeans or something, its iron on. Sorry I know it doesn't help but I am pleased to find out there is a possibility of matching fabric.

I love the sewing prayers you guys are posting. Amen!

I was at a local store (Pacific Fabric) looking at fabric and the like and we were all done, had our fabric cut and had paid for it, the kids and I were loading into the van, actually they were both buckled in and I was hearing the "lets go home" chant from my DS4. Then I looked up and saw the sign on the door "Butterrick Patterns .99 cents" and some small print I couldn't quite read. Ahhhhhhhh! I almost unloaded the whole clan to check it out, but I didn't. I could just hear it a double meltdown in the pattern department. So, I am thinking of going back to see what the small print says, and maybe pick up the pattern for that apron top some of you have made.

How do you easily thread the thread thru the Q foot?
It's a pain in the rear!
Especially if you have lots of color changes.
I keep a pair of tweezers right by my machine just for this purpose. It makes it a little bit easier.

My girls and I were looking at pictures from our last week's trip. I said "I loved taking you to the princess breakfast the day when you wore your princess dresses. Do you think that you ever want to do that again?" Both of them said "Yes." So I asked "Which princess do you think you want to be?"

What does my four year-old say? Not "Snow White because she was kind" or "Cinderella because she is my favorite." No, she said "Aurora, because she has the cutest dress."

:rotfl:
That I know of, the ruffle feet are all screw-on attachments. Meaning they screw directly onto the presser foot arm.
Most likely, You can use a screw-on ruffler foot on a snap-on footed machine :)
Look up alittle above the foot, on the presser foot arm / "bar" = you should see the screw to remove the Snap-On-Foot-Attachment part right there. Attach your Ruffler Foot with that screw.

I love the click-on / snap-on feet! and when I switched to all-metal machines, they all had screw-on feet ... + I had all these snap-on feet I could not use all of a sudden. ... :headache:
Then, I found this WIZARD Snap-On Foot "adapter" (*they used to carry them at Wallymart, but you can still get them online & at some other retail stores) ...
It's like a new "top" to put onto your click-on / snap-on feet, to use them on a screw-on-foot machine :)!

See the screw above the presser foot, up that "arm"/"bar" a bit = that's the screw to use to attach the ruffler foot.
Just make sure the needle can pass through the ruffle foot correctly, right before you take off ... :)

See, I knew I'd found kindred spirits when I opened this thread. It was next to the clown fabric in our store too. But I only bought 2 yards! I have no idea what to do with it. I put it in the pile with the giant Minnie dot fabric I bought at JoAnn's and the mini Minnie dot I bought at Hobby Lobby (I have actually been using that one) So I have different size dot fabrics.

I thought the clown fabric would be cute for a JoJo skirt. But I don't have anyone to make one for.

One tip I'd like to give those with a new ruffler foot. Make sure the screw for your sewing needle is as tight as possible. The motion of the ruffler make the whole machine shake a bit and the needle can come loose (and break soon after) if it's not been tightened well. I break enough needles without that happening so I've learned to check the needle screw everytime I get ready to put the ruffler foot on.

I just made this for a friend's 8 year old, for her birthday present.
She does not like "frilly, ruffly" things to wear. :)

It only took about 1-1.5hrs. :)
The fabric's from last year. It's the wall/quilt panel, that came on a yard with 2 pillow panels. It was on clearance at Wallymart, not long back.
I'm not sure it'll fit on a smaller Tshirt or dress, but if you can figure out how to "wrap-it-around" just right, IT MIGHT?! :)
I'm going to add some glittery fabric paint before I give it to her. Gotta have pixie dust!
I suggest HANG DRY ONLY on this one, for easier care/no iron.

I would have loved to applique it onto a SKIRT for her, but I'm not sure she'd wear it.

FOR THOSE THAT DON'T SEW or are NEW-TO-SEWING =
You can make this! Use Under-Wonder to attach the design, and then use clear fabric paint to seal all the edges :) Super Easy & Fun! You can even have the kids help.

This was gonna be my next question! I've had this problem several times this morning - the needle comes completely out! I can't seem to screw it in tight enought. Maybe I need to use pliers or something?

That came out so cute!

Girl - I could kiss you!!! (well, ok maybe not really ;) ) but You are a lifesaver!!!! I ran out to Hancocks and they didn't have cr-- ugh, anything left in the patterns. I'm taking you advice and heading to Wally World as soon as I can get my cranky toddler moving!!! Luckily, DH will be working late so I can also sneak in the many fabrics I bought without having an eye roll from him!

YOU ROCK!!! Not to mention you cracked me up with the prayer!!

OMG! Last night that is what I did! I brought an extra big bag with me. I put all my new fabric treasure in the bag and through two stuffed animals ontop. When I walked in the house the 10 new yards of Minnie dot were not spied!

Although, that does not even come close to when I left the receipt for my full foil highlights on the the front seat of the car. He handed me the receipt and said I do not want to know how much this stuff costs!

See, I knew I'd found kindred spirits when I opened this thread. LOL I knew I had a problem when I was at the cutting counter and before I could tell the woman the length I needed, my then 3yo DD said "We'll take all of it". I realized that too often that's exactly what I'd say myself so I've tried to really scale back. The most I'll buy now is 5 yards unless I have a specific need for more - and I never really do. Still, I know if I added up what I've spent for fabric in my stash, I'd think of it in terms of how many Disney days that would have bought me instead. :thumbsup2 Here's a photo of just some of my stash.

I think I'd always need the one on the bottom of any given pile ;)

That's exactly my problem. The fabric on top of the cubicles are what I use on a regular basis. I did that thinking it would be easier to reach but the stacks have grown so high anytime I try to get fabric out, it's usually near the bottom and I fear an avalanche. I should mention, too, that what's in that photo is probably less than half of what I have in boxes, bins and bolts wherever I could find the space. I'm determined to sell or donate much of the fabric that I probably won't ever use but it's so hard to part with any of it. I'm just sure as soon as I do I'll have an idea for the perfect project for that now departed fabric. :headache:

Keep in mind we are not going for seven months- well six months 29 days. Who's counting. In the last nine months DD grew 5 inches. I am not going to sew the straps in yet. I am goind to wait and do that the week before we leave. That way I can make adjustments.

I bought the green striped St. Judes fabric. I really want to add a ruffle but I do not know if I should. I could take a couple inches off the dress and then do it. Also do you think I should add a tie somewhere in the middle of the dress so I can tighten the waist. She is just do skinny!

when do you all do your sewing. I can only sew a bit at a time. I have 3 children of my own then I sit for 3 others, so the ages in my home are..... 3 mos old, 20 mos old (theese two are sisters I babysit), 2yrs old (mine), 4 yrs old (I babysit), 6 yrs old (mine), and 11 yrs old (mine) :dance3: . The only time I get to sew is about 2 hours at night. That is after quality time with dh. He gets home from work and then the kids go to bed at 8:30, dh goes to bed at 10pm (he leaves for work at 3am). SO I get to sew after 10 pm. UGH. not much time when you are up at 6 am to babysit. I am wondering how you all do it? Am I not managing my time. Please give me all of your advice as to how to sew when the kiddos are awake. Then I think I could get more done. :confused3 . Really I am just so jealous of all of your great work :worship: . I must say though, that I did find time today to tape 4 ziploc bags to hangers today and fill them. :) :woohoo:

Those are BEAUTIFUL! Nice Work!
my girls are skinny, too ...
I sometimes add little ribbon "loops" on the sides, under the arms = so, I can "lace-it-up" on each side, to fit right ... :)
(*little ribbon loops, in two rows, running up & down, about 1-1.5" inches in between each loop, the rows are about 2-4" apart depending on how much bigger it is on her)

These can be added AFTER the garment is finished, or during construction, by placing them inside a small seam ...
Like a mini-version of the loops/eyelets of the corsets, that are so popular now-a-days...
+ makes a spot to add coordinating ribbons = match hair-bows :)

example (not-new-dress) ... click to enlarge
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb57/the-seamstress/th_sidelaceups.jpg (http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb57/the-seamstress/sidelaceups.jpg)

You MIGHT be able to just add two vertical rows of Rick-Rack, to make the loops, too :) ... sew off-center, so they leave lacing gaps/"loops"

Well not now cuz I can't sew for that! Nothing I make for Jeanie (the 2 year old) fits, but my stuff fits fine. :confused3

I love that nemo fabric I have 5 yards of it to make another matching set for me, tammy and jeanie.

Maybe Utah can give you advice. She has 4 kids, babysits 3 or four and still sews.

Thanks!

Oh crap, I can't even sew and I had to run right over to the website to see what I "need".:rotfl:

Great dresses! I think the striped ruffle would look nice on the bottom, but I'm not sure about shortening the green since it appears to be the same width as the top strip. Would that look out of balance? I don't think I'd totally get rid of the green though because I personally like the dark/light contrast. I'm a big help, huh? LOL!

Let's see the camo pattern was Easy Stitch and save by McCalls M5370.

The nemo was See and Sew 3889. That one is so super easy!! I have made a few versions of this dress. For Nemo I used ribbion for the straps instead. The nemo binding is with all the rick rack. They also have Pooh Bear too!

My Joann still has it. I saw it there yesterday, and it's 30% off right now. If you still can't find it I'll be happy to pick up some for you. I'm planning to buy some to put away for future outfits for my girls.

Haircut-$35 dollars
Wash, condition, blowdry $25.00
Tri-tone color job $50.00
Last minute added highlights $35.oo
Tip for stylist $20.00
Not having a husband to complain about how much this stuff costs...
PRICE-LESS!!

Umm, Lisa, I think you have a problem! ;)

Did I mention that photo is from more then 2 months ago and before I added mumble mumble yards of new prints? :scared1: I did sell many yards of fabric during that time but none from the stash shown in the photo. I'm afraid I don't think I have a problem... I KNOW I do. ;)

LOL A lot of the fabric I have that isn't shown was bought for no good reason before kind members of this board encouraged me to try sewing for others. The bulk of the fabric in the photo were purchased since then so I both applaud and blame those members for their encouragement. :rotfl:

They've been downsizing or totally eliminating fabric departments from many stores. I guess it depends on the sales volume for each location what they do. I know ours was reduced in size by half. They don't carry any seasonal prints and mostly just have one section of the wall and the $1 & $2 table.

I take a day off to go the dunes, and look what happens! I am SOOO far behind right now! So, could you all stop posting until I catch up?

WOW! That's is a great bookmarks list!

It's so jammed packed full of GREAT SITES with Tons of Projects, it's taking me awhile to look through it all.
I'm still looking for that free corset pattern, though. :)
THANKS TONS for putting that list together & posting it!!!!!!!

Thanks, my sister, hkite has been helping me try to organize it better. I was looking through it, and I don't see the corset pattern I was talking about. I may have saved it to my personal bookmarks on my computer. I will try to find it and post it on there.

I had firm intentions of being a BOY...even told my first grade teacher my name was "Jo"...*ahem* She thought i was a boy for two weeks thanks to the short hair and overalls...when she found out I was in fact a girl, I was sent along to the psychiatrists office!:rotfl2: This ceased to be an issue when I was enrolled in Our Lady of Sorrows elementary school...uniforms...*sigh*)

Oh my gosh! You made me spit coffee all over the computer reading your post! How funny is that story!!!! And CONGRATULATIONS on getting to the end of the thread!!!!

Here are just a few more of our outfits. The quality of these pictures is not good. I took them with a disposable camera after my digital camera's battery ran out. I forgot to pack the charger! I usually have good luck with those little disposable cameras, but not this time.

My seven year-old wanted a High School Musical outfit to wear to the pep rally. She picked these fabrics and we added appliques. There's a basketball and the words "Go Team" on the back.

Adorable outfits!!! I wouldn't want to take the Crocs off either! I LOVE mine! I don't know what I'm going to do come winter! They need to sell a sneaker style.
my dd's picked out this fabric for their dresses they want me to make them for the county fair...and then i had a great idea afterwards to put the mickey head on them so they could wear to animal kingdom...what do you all think? i have no idea how to applique at all...so when i am ready i will ask for advice on how to do it...

p.s. i am in the process of having a garage sale this weekend so i most likely will not get to this project until sunday at the earliest...

I think that is going to be adorable.

I know this is off topic, but my dd is sick! She's not yet 3 and she was throwing up a couple days ago and has been having fevers off and on. Now she has a measles looking rash alllllll over her body. I don't think it's heat rash. Great! I'm taking her to the kid's Insta Care a little later. I just get so worried when my kids are sick. Goodness only knows what the sam-hill this is. Send a little pixie dust and especially prayers if you want.

I'm not to the end of the thread yet, but I hope Nora is doing better.

Not a Disney outfit, but I had a ton of this material so I gave it a go. I am having a heck of time attaching the skirt to the tshirt material. Even going very slowly - it still bunched up in places. I have gone back and fixed some of it. Any tips to make this easier and look better? BTW, in this picture, the dress is a little crooked, I didn't fix it before I took the picture.

And, I have to add -- you other newbies are doing way better than me. I'll keep trying though!

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x155/agentpleakley/Cowoutfit001.jpg

That's cute, nice job.

Has anyone seen this fabric? The only place I found it, it is out of stock. Grumble grumble.

I love that Sea World dress!

I haven't looked for one @ WallyMart = I dunno if they carry them.
I bought My Ruffle Foot at JoAnn's, a long time ago. (Approx. $15-18 ?)
I've seen them at Hancock & Field's Fabrics, too.
IF the ones you find at those stores don't work for your older machine, then I'd suggest checking the Regular Sewing Centers.
They'll probably either have one instock, or can GET one.
OR just go there first. I'm not sure how much their mark-up is, it might not be much. :)
IT'S TOTALLY WORTH THE TRIP TO THE STORE !!!
After you get used to using it, you won't believe how you ever lived without it :)!
Here's pictures of mine, it's original packaging, and my foot I compared it to. :)
As you can see my machine's not "new", from the 60's or 70's (dunno exact year made).

We saw this at Joanns the other day, it's still $15.

This is the last photo for tonight, I sware...I just found all of these old photos, and I got excited...

This is totally not disney related...This is a great reason to move to Florida...there are tons of these little beachy areas, and the girls love them...and they are just beautiful...this was taken at a place called the Turtle Mounds near Cape Canaveral Seashore...
My husband's friend use to live in Cape Canaveral, he has moved to Titusville now, but I thought this beach looked familiar. I think he has taken us to that same general area before. It's so beautiful!

Here's one I have that's sort of upclose. Does that help any? What part of the closure do you want to see?

I will take some more pics tomorrow. The corset is really not as rigid as I thought it would be, which for DD was good. I was concerned about it being uncomfortable, but it really doesn't look it when its on. It's maybe the thickness of denim  just to give you an idea....it does have some body, but it allows her to bend and move, too. I hope that makes a little sense. :upsidedow

I was wondering if buttonholes would work in place of the metal things (my mind has left me today, and I can't think what they are called!)

Okay, I think I have enough posts under my belt to post a picture. I did this Aurora t-shirt for my best friend's daughter. They just got back from Disney and she was so happy with it, she wore it three times during their five day stay. I'm not in love with it...I think her eyes look a little crazy. But I'm really excited to paint some more.

Ok Tom, fess up! Who are you and why are running around the DISboards masquerading as a beginning sewer???? This is beautiful! I can't wait to see what you come up with next Tom (if your name is in fact "Tom")....

I stayed up way to late smocking last night. This is really going to be a practice makes perfect kind of project. I started practicing cable stitches. The first row is a mess. I figured it out after I finished. Then I did the second row. I was not making my stitches even and tight enough at first.

Then I started the waves. The first wave was not long enough I may end up cropping that row out. The border is for the Mermaid smocking plate that will end up being Ariel!

I think you are doing an amazing job! I would really love to learn to do that.
Okay!

I have been a busy girl planning out my girls outfits. I was going to the fabric store and buying this because it was pretty too much!!!!

Here is the Ohano Breakfast outfit. I am doing it for both girls. I love the Lilly hair bow. These Lilly's were my wedding flower!

Thanks for everyones comments and compliments. I pinned the dress today to make a larger hem. I am probably going to just add a small striped ruffle to the bottom. In the center green tier I am going to open the seems and add a long striped tie on each side. That way I can make the dress a bit more form fitting.

Although I didn't make the outfit you are talking about, I didn't see your question answered (although I may just have missed it in the pages and pages of posts since I went to bed)! :rotfl:

They are embroidered scrapbooking stickers put out by Disney. Here is what the package looks like:

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa198/Keep-Moving-Forward/Disney%20Photomosaic%20Puzzles/misc316.jpg

I saw those today at the Walmart. They had the Minnie dot print and bottle caps too. But since I'm a non-sewer, I resisted buying them. My question is: Do the stickers stay on through washing? They can't go in the dryer, can they?

I would insert the pic, but they aren't my kids and I feel odd about posting it...might be silly, but whats wrong with silly ;)
Anywho, anyone know how to cover the whole bib part? I have this feeling its easier than I am thinking it is....or very very hard ;)

No time to sew today, but DS and I stenciled some t-shirts (non-disney, shhhh don't tell) Its such fun to do that with him. And he loves wearing the shirts we make together. Last night he wore one as a PJ top but we had stenciled a Lg Dump truck on the back (to big for the front, as the shirt has a pocket), well he insisted on wearing the shirt backwards, so the truck was in front. Silly boy - gotta love it.

What a beautiful shirt!

Thank you so much for posting an idea for non-sewers. I've been stressing about how to keep the edges from fraying. My mom said she'd do a zig zag stitch, but I'm scared it will mess the clothes up and I'll be out lots of money. I can't figure out how to explain the little stitch I've seen here around appliques... :confused3 I'll try the clear paint. Thanks again!

when do you all do your sewing. :) :woohoo:

I'm having a hard time finding time too. And I have less children... just two. Although the 1.5 year old is scared by the sound of the sewing machine.... :rotfl:

Hey has anyone used these for a little iron-on bling?

I am thinking it might be fun!

I used the iron on bling to add the skull and cross bones to my daughter's dress:

Wow, I felt like I haven't posted in forever. Love all the new outfits! I just finished a project but my youngest is in the bathtub yelling for me to turn on the water. I'll try to pop back on later.

I was in our other walmart today to get fabric and they don't have any (this is only the 1st time I was in there) I was talking to the girl in crafts and she said ...... get this...... they are in the midst of slowly removing the fabric dept from all walmarts. I said are THEY INSANE!!!! living in the hicktown that I do, walmart is the only place to get fabric. UGH. Has anyone else heard this said anywhere? And seriously, give me your time tips as to how to sew with kids running about. I want to make much more then I have time for.

I know I've already posted this about 4 times (this is the 2nd time today!), so I'm sorry if I'm annoying people. But, if you want to make sure that WalMart keeps their fabric departments, call 1-800-WALMART and send an e-mail to corporate using this link:

http://walmartstores.com/GlobalWMStoresWeb/navigate.do?catg=221

Go ahead and sign the petition that someone posted above too! The employees in our local WalMart fabric dept say that the phone calls and e-mails have really made a difference and that WalMart is listening, at least locally.

If you want to "join the cause", add the "save walmart fabric" logo to your siggy, along with the link to e-mail corporate. Here's the link to the graphic: http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb256/disboutique/fabric%20n%20patterns%20n%20ideas/Savefabricssmall.jpg

I was looking at the iron-on bling on-line today. Did you find them in a store? The site I found had that one and "Queen" with a crown for $5 each.

I found the product list on the manufacturer's website
I saw the following options...
Angel, Bad Girl, Diva, Drama Queen (w/Crown), Guilty, Hot, I Love Nerds (heart for the word love), Perfect 10, Princess (w/Crown), Rock Star they also had a dragon and a sun both images not words.

And they had Halloween ones:
Good Witch, Haunted, Monster, Scary, Spooky, and Wicked

it also looks like you can buy a pack of just letters in gold or silver. Hmmm, the wheels are turning.

the website says they are found at all the usual suspects.
But I haven't seen prices yet... $5 you say?

Oh thank you that helps! Might I ask what color thread looks best? Red like the scarf? Or Black like my Mickey Head? I do have some clear nylon thread too. Any recommendations?
I used the red to match the scarf fabric. Since the back side of the applique is not seen the stitches are not seen and if the stitches on the front end up a little bigger than I intended(getting distracted while I'm sewing ie a good part on TV...I save my hand work for watching TV...I HAVE to be DOING something while watching..LOL) they blend in better....Nana

And, I found this at Hancocks-- I thought it would be great for when we eat at Prime Time Cafe....(now I know I'm freaking out -- making outfits for Disney restaurants) ANY IDEAS ON WHAT I CAN DO WITH IT?

It SCREAMS 50's PrimeTime to me too. Just don't get S'Mores all over it. Or, it can be worn to Sci Fi Drive In? Just brainstormin'....
((great, now I want s'mores))
I absolutely love all the vintage/retro prints you picked out!

Any idea why that Walmart thing is showing up so freakin' big in my signature, even though it's only 100x51 pixels on photobucket?

Nevermind- I fixed it.

Oh! I something similar for $3 each with shipping. It's not as pretty, but it's a great price.

CastleCreations- Welp, I loved it. I didn't even LIKE cows (other than steak ;) ) before that. I can't wait to see what you come up with for Christmas.

And thanks for reminding me to get my roots done! :cool2:
Here's another cow dress for you. Not quite done yet...

Ths fabric coordinates with the one Castlecreations used. Both fabrics are at WALMART! (I think they have the "Moo..." fabric too.)

you've created a fabric collecting addict out of a newbie... I even went to Hancock's today and bought 5 patterns (you would think this is hilarious if you knew me). I also bought some more fabric... (THIS TO ADD TO THE 3 boxes of DISNEY FABRIC)

This was from an online store that I rec'd in the mail today . . . not Disney but cute:

THank you so much for your help! I used red thread and they turned out great! I am getting ready to leave for Disney so I can't post pictures. I will post pictures of my outfits when I get back! I can't wait to share some of my outfits I've been working on.

Now I need to make a few bows. princess:

No -- but now I'm going to have to go check that site out too!! I got all but the diner fabric at Christa's Quilts dot com. (Had a 10% off coupon and from the sites I visited - -her prices were the best -- also I ordered on Monday and rec'd everything today). The diner fabric I got at Hancocks. I just couldn't pass that up.

Well -- now I'm off to visit reprodepot .....

Aimeeg - great job! And your DD seems to like them :)
I was considering the disney blanket binding for that same thing, it turned out wonderfully! Thanks for sharing the pics.

Could someone tell me how you cover the bib of the overalls with material? Specifics :confused3 I'm a beginner sewer. LOL
thanks
tina

I am still curious about this...
Here is a pic from the disboutique photos - such a cute big bro and lil sis.
http://s204.photobucket.com/albums/bb256/disboutique/boys%20disney%20outfits/?action=view&current=WDWOctober20051774.jpg

Silly boy - gotta love it.[/QUOTE]

I wonder if she cut a hole, made it a button hole to finish it off and then stitched it onto the overalls?

If you cut a hole in the fabric and just left it alone it would unravel and fray when you washed it. The only other thing would be to be able take the metal button off and put it back on. :confused3

Those Halloween overalls are really cute.

I like this idea as a sewing alternative. I was thinking about glow in the dark fabric paint...for all those rides that have the black lights, DS loves it when his clothes glow! Actually I do to :thumbsup2 .

I am thinking it might be fun!

I have never used that brand, but have purchased some from Hobby Lobby. They go up to $9.99 but sometimes are 50% off and other times, I just use a coupon. One shirt I did for my daughter has been washed many, many times and (oops) even dried a couple of times. And it still looks great!
Well, here is a picture.

I got a new sewing machine!!!!

This one will magically make me good, I'm thinkin'.

I feel like I've been using a push lawn-mower and have switched over to a ride-on! I haven't really read the instructions ("instructions are for wussies!") but I simply sewed some seam binding onto a bit of fabric, and it sews like a dream!!!!

It's another one from Walmart. The brother CS-6000i computer one. IT THREADS THE NEEDLE! :cloud9:

Happy camper in Utah tonight!

I just got the 4000 one, I love it! I thought about the 6000, but didn't really need the extras I guess. Mine has enough compared to the dinosaur I had (it felt like a dinosaur anyways). Enjoy! I have been a sewing crazy woman since last Saturday!

Can anyone tell me the proper way to attach a ruffle to the bottom of a dress?

I just do a long stitch along the top of the ruffle fabric. Then you pull the thread to gather it and then attach to dress.

:rotfl: My machine does everything but buy and cut the fabric. The absolute bestest thing is the threading! I have to thread it through the tension dealie but it goes through the eye of the needle like a dream.
