This week they got their little paws on Paula Creamer's check from the Fields Open at Ko Olina Golf Club. This one is for $195,000.00.

Once again, the DD's didn't offer to pay for any of my race entry fees, instead they spent it on candy. That's it, I'm cutting off their allowance.

Down to just six weeks of rotations left- two more here in ME and then 4 of pediatric pulmonology at home. Training is going well with 4 swims, 3 bikes, and at least 5 runs a week. Really looking forward to being able to bike outdoors but don't see it happening for a while yet.

I have not seen anything about this movie but from the responses here I will definitely have to look into it. Does anybody know if it is out on DVD by any chance? We don't get many (acutally we don't get any) first run movies over here so if its in the theaters I will just have to wait until I get back.

Will finish up a 24 mile week tonight with a 6 mile run at a comfortable pace. We are starting to get a little warmer (sorry all of you with snow up to your armpits) with highs in the upper 70s, lower 80s - very comfortable. I should be leaving about the time it gets to the boiling stage which is a good thing!

Good morning everyone.

I'm still sort of new here and it can be a little overwhelming to try to read all of the long threads, but I'm trying!

I'm very new to running (just started in Jan) and I'm planning to run the Marathon with DH. Things started off well. I worked my way up to 3 miles, 3 times per week and my time, although slow, was improving as well. Last week, my ankle started to hurt while I was running. I cut the run short and walked the rest of the way home. Unfortunately, it hasn't gotten any better, so I haven't run in over a week. :sad2: I know I should probably be icing it and keeping it elevated, but with three kids ranging from 8 yrs to 15 mos, that can be tricky.

I think my shoes may have been part of the problem. I think they're more of a running/walking shoe than a true running shoe, so I went to a store the specializes in helping you find the right shoes. They watch you walk and run and then help you to find the right shoe. The shoes I got feel a lot lighter and bouncier than my old shoes, so I'm hoping that will help. Plus, the shoes are a gray-ish/white color with lime green trim, so that has to be a good sign, right? :rotfl:

I'm really hoping to get to know all of you WISHers better as time goes on.

Good morning Wishers...

Lynne...I pm'd you. Sorry about being a slacker on the hat order!

OK OK OK...will somebody PLEASE come to my house and boot me out the door to run. :p It's frigid cold...and my roads are still covered with snow...so I *KNOW* it's going to be a long, slow, trudging 6 miles. I'm motivated to run...just not in these conditions. And I don't have access to a treadmill this morning...even if I actually did want to use one ;).

Ok...I'm going....honestly....

Happy training everyone.

Oh...and Carol...congrats on the 10K!!! :goodvibes When do you find out about a seeded placement for the P'Tree? What are the cut-offs etc. I know a little about the race from Scott...it sounds awesome! And wtg to Randy...47 is a smokin' fast time! :thumbsup2

Aloha Jeff...AWESOME PICS!!!! Wow...that's so cool :). And your DDs are ADORABLE!

Ok...I'm going now...for real this time ;)

Today I just finished 30 minutes. I did house-walking then stood for some calf raises and other low-stress leg sets and triceps work, sat for some leg extensions, sat for some arm curls, and arm raises. Whew! I'm feeling good with this.

Julie, good for you to listen to your body. Try not to do too much too fast. Build it slow. Yay for those new shoes.

Jeff, great pics and Oh yeah for that check.

Z, the movie was offered to runners via Active.com emails. That first showing was successful enough that they offered a second showing. I too look forward to the DVD version. I enjoyed this movie.

Happy training to all. Hope to "see" everyone more on this week's thread.

Got out for 7 miles this morning, R4/W2. Not a bad pace of 12:47. Even the feet faired well.

AlohaJeff – Great Pics! :thumbsup2

Lynne – Payment sent.

Z – Keep your head down and your powder dry.

Amy – Get out there and run! ::cop:

Julie - :welcome: Hope the new shoes work out for you.

Lily – Glad to see you’re able to get a workout in. Keep it up! :thumbsup2

:welcome: Julie! Let us know how the ankle is doing. Find a good running store and work with them on shoes. Don't go to a sports outlet--they don't typically have the staff to know how to fit people for shoes.

Amy: did you get your butt out there yet?

Vic: 7 miles is great! I did 7 miles today but it was only one of running, one on the eliptical and 5 on the bike. I know, I know, I'm a slacker! If I remember correctly, you are the head honcho this week, is that right? We'll come complain to you when Panda, er, I mean, anyone gets out of hand, right?

Lily: so very happy to hear you are feeling good today! Great job on all the exercises!!! You will so be ready for Minnie.

WWDave: what do you have in store for Vic this week? Got keep him on his toes!!! :rotfl2:

Z: :thumbsup2 on the 24 miles! Can you send some of that warmth to New England? We sure could use it.

Aloha Jeff: so love the pictures.

Yesterday I ran 3 miles of speed work which felt so good. Then today was 7 miles of various cardio and weights for an hour's workout. Also felt good. I will hopefully get some more running in tomorrow before the meat of the week hits. Never can tell.

Happy training everyone!

You'd never believe what I saw on my run today- SURFERS!!!

Why is that so amazing? Because I'm currently in Maine, it was in the low 30s with wind chill in the upper 20s and the water temp in the Atlantic is currently 37 degrees. Maybe it's a new anti-shark tactic:confused3

Did 10.11 miles around Biddeford Pool and along Fortune's Rock and the beach. Beautiful sunny crystal blue skies and the winds were relatively light for the coast. Must have been some decent offshore wind though as it was one of the better sets of waves that I've seen for that beach.

Thanks for the rapid responses. I want to get the order for the hats/visors in by March 3rd so that we'll have them by April. Happy training everyone!

I KNOW I am not going to be seeded, but if you submit ANY "offiical" time you get in at least group 3. Since there are NINE groups that's a great improvment over the potentially random assigment to 8 or 9 LOL!

The first group is "elite" invited runners and folks like that who get paid to run.
Then group 1, I think Randy told me it was under 42?
Then group 1A and 1B. Randy is in 1A.

I think everyone in the 1 groups and "elite" gets chips. The rest of us are on our own. Actually the Minnie will be the first race I have ever done with a chip!

And Julie Welcome to the Party! The Half in January will be my first!

AmyBeth68
02-24-2008, 02:57 PM
Carol...:thumbsup2 ahhh gotcha. I wouldn't get seeded either LOL. Those are some speedy quick times needed. And at least if you get in group 3 you'll have an advantage of a better start time.

Vic and Martha: Ummm...still haven't ran....:guilty: BUT I swear I'm heading out there RIGHT NOW.

Vic: NICE run there chief!:goodvibes

Martha...GREAT job on the workouts!!! Glad you had a successful speed workout!!! :thumbsup2

Lynne....SURFERS???!!!! :faint: I can't imagine a wet suit that would keep me warm in those chilly Maine waters in February!!!! WOW!

Calcio
02-24-2008, 03:13 PM
Lynne

Yes, I knew surfers in thick wet suits hit the breaks in Maine and Ireland of all places. If you watch Riding Giants there is a part about Mavericks in Northern California. An hour long paddle, in ice cold water, sharks in the cold water, surrounded by razor sharp rocks, plus 30 foot tall waves.

Those guys are totally insane dude. My idea of surfing is 4-6 foot waves in Hawaii. Warm water, beautiful mountains and plants above the sand beach, and you only need to wear a rash guard.

If someone can give me posting pictures for dummies, I'll post a pic of me on a board on a break below Diamond Head.

I'm plugging along, did 4.36 miles Friday at 9:10 mpm, including 4 half mile intervals around 8:30 per mile. I had hoped to do that outside, but 1 foot of fresh snow took care of that.

The Minnie 15K is 10 weeks away, and I'm be more than ready for it. I think I'll actually buy some racing flats or super light trainers specifically for that day. My strategy will be to run as fast as I can for as long as I can. Hopefully that will be 9.32 miles.

Best
Craig

I got in a 6 miler today, with DD #1 riding her bike along side. She said she earned her breakfast today. LOL.

What's so funny about seeing surfers in February? I see surfers practically everyday I run. Oh yeah, location, location, location.

Have a great day, and glad everyone enjoyed the photos.

Ok, newbie question coming.......DH told me he might get me a Garmin and an Ipod for my birthday. It's a big one! ;) (I even have a thread about it :rotfl: ) Which Garmin should I get? I'm a new runner, and don't know how far I will go with this. I just would like to know how far I have run without having to carry my handheld Garmin. Also, can I pause the timer if I stop to talk? That happens sometimes when I am out walking the dogs. I just want to keep accurate totals for my team....Go Buzzies!!!!!

Seriously, any input would be helpful. I have looked at the 201 on Amazon. I don't think I want the heart monitor. It would be nice to have, but not a "have" to have. What is the difference in the 201 and 205?

Thanks guys!

Hey guys! My goal for this week is to tri and keep up with this thread. WISH me luck!

Lynne - How do you get all those workouts in? I can get 4 runs, 4 bikes and 2 swims....but that is pushing it...OOOOH and I am so slow on the swim! But I love to run the best!

Amy - So, did you run?

aldisneygrl - Sorry, no advice for the Garmin...I dont have one. Have an Ipod though...but I only use it on the treadmill...don't get me on the soapbox of not using it outside....:)

Thanks guys!I currently own the 205. 205 is supposed to have the reception tweeked a bit so it's supposed to be better in some of the "off" locations than the 201. I so LOVE my Garmin toy. Welcome to the wonderful world of running/walking/wogging--the low-cost sport!

Ms. Duckie: Robin is obviously calendar-girl material. And like you, I can no longer let DOOD walk me--he's too tolerant of my sensitive nose for chocolate or coffee (or both)!

Jackie: Oooh, the shadow box! What a lovely gift and all the better because it's a surprise. About your ankle? I'm tempted to say to go for a really long taper so you're not racing on a tender/injured ankle. Less chance of hurting yourself race day. Good for you for listening to Deana Kastor.

Aloha Jeff: I just have to thank you for always providing useful or fun links! Not to mention I love the pics of your DDs. They always look so excited. They really should pay for your entry fees, though, as it's your racing that's allowing them to meet all these celebs! :rotfl2: Maybe you could count the bike-riding as paying their way, sort of a "Rocky-coach" moment.

Angie: I would go crazy--okay, crazier than I am--with your week's worth of activities. But what fun, what good reasons to celebrate! :cheer2: Keep up the good work and excitement for running (as if you needed to be told that :upsidedow ).

Cecilia: I'm bummed that I missed out on the movie, as it sounds like it would motivate me too.

Shan: Others have said it, I'll just reiterate it: YOU'RE A RUNNER! Heart, body, soul. 'Nuff said? :goodvibes

Kristi: Yoga in a tank top? The idea intimidates me--I hope to get to that level of self-confidence. You rock! :cool1: (I'm working on it, so keep telling the stories till things sink through my thick skull.)

CarolA: WTG on the 10K & qualifying for Peachtree. That must feel really good!

Amy: Your schedule and its variety alternately excites me & wears me out. It's inspiring. You're just an Energizer Bunny, you are! A sloppy run, though, ewwwww. It's a little late to do so, but get yourself on the road, woman! (Do as I say in this weather, not as I do! :rotfl2:)

Jeanne: Same here with the cups at the Mickey. I'm thinking that walking at water stations might be a strategy for me that I (have to) adopt, as I'm clutzy on top of being slow.

xterratri: Thanks for doing all the work on the hats & visors. And congrats on the countdown on rotations, even though it looks like you're going to be pressed for training time in terms of outdoor biking. What happens after your 6 weeks--a break or are you finished? Yea on the 10+ miler, btw, and :faint: for the surfers in that weather. Wow, really hardy people.

Z: Go ahead, taunt me with the good weather. I'm not jealous, not me. Anyway, a big whoo-hoo on the 24 miles this week!

Julie: Welcome! It's great to have another person join us here. Speaking of jealous, I do think I'm more jealous of your lime-green shoes than of Z's weather (cause I'm really very happy for Z, who deserves it). I'm looking forward to hearing about your running progress throughout this year!

Lily: Awesome job with your 30 minutes. You're really doing incredible!

Vic: WTG with the 7-miler! Thanks for starting the thread this week, too! So, what color is your Thursday thong?? :rolleyes1 I'll be waiting eagerly in anticipation of the day. popcorn::

Martha: :cheer2: It sounds like you got some good miles & workouts in this weekend. Yea for the rush it's giving you!

Craig: Your training sounds more than on schedule. Are you going for a new PR. I mean, I know you were really speedy in a "past life," but a PR for this year or this kind of race?

Allie: I don't have a Garmin (yet) so I don't know the numbers, but I'd say get one with a HR monitor. In the long haul I think it will be useful, even if you move to other activities in addition to/instead of running. I love my iPod, though, and have two--a video one & a nano (the nano was a freebie with my Apple purchase). I use them both, even outside (but, shhhhh, don't tell Christa, who's piqued my curiosity).

As for me: Busy, busy, busy movie-going weekend, with the Oscars & all. The AMC all-day Oscar event was fun, but after 12 hours of movie-watching overload, I woke up this morning sore and kind of feeling hangover-ish (not that I've ever had a hangover). The weather was nice enough to be outside, but today is the yoga class I like. So we dragged ourselves to the club, only to find....a substitute instructor. And not just a substitute, the instructor whose class left me feeling worse then when I entered (stressed, angry, etc.) There was NO WAY either of us was taking a class with her again, so we did circuit & XT instead. (We can't really run outside near our club, not safely anyway).

Then we went out for coffee this afternoon & did a little strolling around. It's supposed to be good weather all this week, so keep your fingers crossed that there will be non-TM time in my future.

WISH Team is the Best! I am so crying right now. I am humbled and honored.

Thanks to all for your support. I truly appreciate it and wonder if I can ever be worthy of all that I am given.I want all of our WISH Team to know that I posted this the other day on the thread Howard started where you dedicated your steps/hours in my name. I owe everyone here so much. Thank you.

I'm not putting in distance at this point, I am doing my house-walking and as-able exercising. I will begin logging these as truly I am begining my journey to the Minnie. I see doc this Wednesday. He will remove staples and I am sure advise me further on my recovery toward stepping for the Minnie. I am holding him to his prediction that I will be able to make and participate in the event!

Welcome to all the new Wish-ers and congrats to all those getting their steps in. :wave2:

Me - I've pretty much been a slug since the Goofy. Gave myself the rest of Jan. off. Started back in Feb., then strained my back. Back is feeling good now :goodvibes. But of course life is now taking over. I think I'm gonna give myself this week off to really let the back recover and try to catch up on some things at home and work.
Spring break for school starts next week, so I'll have a little extra time to start back on my workouts.

:cool1: I did run! And it was a pretty good one. I managed 6 hilly miles in 55:57. A decent pace on my tired legs. I've kind of thrashed my quads the past week with spin class, hill repeats and bike trainer work. :faint: So by mile 4 on the hills here, I really started to feel the exhaustion set into my poor legs. What doesn't kill us...as the saying goes ;). I'm hoping this is all going to make me speed up a bit...we'll see! I tried to do some yoga...but my DD started feeling unwell :(. So that curtailed the yoga time. Hopefully this isn't one of those nasty bugs that goes thru the house.

And the chi running book...I'm working my way through it and it really does make a lot of sense! :thumbsup2 Carrie and Deb...are you girls still pounding your way through the book???

Lily...:goodvibes So glad to see you here. I'm in awe of your determination to get strong enough for the Minnie. You set an amazing example for all of us here. Thanks for sharing your journey!!!

Deb...so give us your take on the Oscars tonight...any favorites???. I'm ready to settle in and enjoy the show.

Chi Running IS making more sense, and I'm incorporating some of exercises into my training days. They're not strenuous but I can feel them, if that makes any sense. I'm going to look at Chi Walking, too, as I am a pedestrian commuter & I think it would be great training. I'm glad you're still with it.

As for the Oscars....man, I could go on an on and on. (Anyone surprised?) But I will say that There Will Be Blood *should* take the big awards but I think No Country For Old Men will be the film that actually does take them. (And it's no offense to the Coen Brothers, who I've followed and loved from Blood Simple to The Big Lebowski to Fargo to O Brother, Where Art Thou? It's just that I think There Will Be Blood is the bolder film, which is precisely why I don't think it will sweep. But the Coen Brothers deserve a Best Pic win for their body of work.)

Oh, and Persepolis *should* win for Animated Feature, but the award will probably go to Ratatouille as a more mainstream film that falls within audience expectations for animation.

Off to watch the pre-show now. It should be exciting...for me. :thumbsup2

Happy Sunday, all! I did a 7.5 mile walk yesterday and my hips are still complaining so I took it easy today (it was a scheduled rest day for me). Tomorrow night I have a dental appointment--more old fillings that are being replaced. This time we're doing both the top and bottom on the same side. I won't be working out after that--just resting and waiting to get enough feeling back that I can drink water without it running down my face.

I have to say, now that I've been walking with a schedule for a month, I'm pretty proud of myself. Knowing I have to come here and post miles/minutes pushes me to keep going. I've gotten off my butt after work to drive to the gym, spent time mapping walking routes to get my miles in, and workout out faithfully since that first week when I had the hot cocoa incident. I haven't let that happen again.

Anyway, I'm glad to be here.

Big Vic, thanks for starting this thread this week. I take it for granted sometimes that a new thread will appear to celebrate the start of new week, sometimes. And good job on the miles today!

As for the daily celebrations this week, it's no hats on Tuesday and flip flops on Thursday? :confused3

Mel, thank you for all the weeks you start the thread and I don't notice!

AlohaJeff, your girls are so cute! The big question is, do they SHARE the candy? And I had no idea that the LPGA people were so friendly!

Xterritri, thank you again for the hat order! I can't wait for my limeade hats! Okay, only one is mine, but I had to get one for dh because I won't be able to see mine when I'm wearing it!

And SURFERS? Holy cow. This weekend was polar bear plunge around here (and I didn't participate!).

If I had though, it might take the place of an ice bath!

z, I think Spirit of the Marathon is an indie film that has had two separate performance date in the US. It'll be playing internationally soon enough, but unless your in Germany on the day they decide to show it there (or some similar coincidence), you'll probably need to wait for dvd. It wasn't playing in coastal New Jersey, so I didn't get to see it (although I'm worried now that I would be scared off!). Stay safe! Glad your temps are comfy--enjoy it before the temps soar in a couple months!

Julie, welcome! Take care of that ankle. I just started training last month for the half for next January--I love how supportive everyone is here. Stop by when you can!

Amy, I admire you for getting out there today. I walked across the street to the mailbox an hour ago and it was so cold (and dark, but that's probably because dh waited until an hour ago to take the walk!). I posted here the other night for the same reason--it makes me get moving when I don't feel like it (and that's often). And thanks for the encouragement on the "fun" part of working out!

Lily, so glad to see you are up and around! :goodvibes

Martha, impressive work out schedule! I hope you can get those workouts in before the week takes over!

Kira, I'm with you on the procrastination! Hope you got the workout in.

CarolA, I look forward to seeing you at the finish line next January! I'm still dreaming of the Minnie, but dh seems against it still (as in, he said NO).

Craig, 10 weeks until the Minnie? I want to play! :( Sounds like your training is going really well.

Christa, Good luck keeping up with this thread. Only the first day and I feel hopelessly behind!

Debra, thanks for the laugh about DOOD. DH is the one who wanders off to eat something--not me! If I could put a leash on him.... no, wait. That's just wrong in so many ways.... And thank you for the kind words about Robin. She was in the calendar last year, but I forgot to send in her photos for this year's calendar! And I'll keep good thoughts that we can all get off the TM and get outside this week!

Terri, spring break next week? Wow. Time flies. I have a couple weeks.

Have a great week!

Debra-

I fell behind in my Oscar preparation this year--didn't see There Will Be Blood, Atonement, or Juno. :(

I did think that Tommy Lee Jones was amazing in The Valley of Elah, for certain, better than the performance he did in No Country.

And I read Persepolis a few years ago but didn't see the film. The book was breathtaking--and I was embarrassed to realize how little I knew about life in Iran and the politics of the overthrow. I'm almost the same age as the author, so perhaps that is why is resonated so strongly with me.

That said, I won't be disappointed if they honor Remy. Have you met him yet at Disney? His fur is SO soft!

Unfortunately, I wasted my pop culture time watching the return of SNL with Tina Fey last night. Now I have to go to be early tonight.

It's a school night.

Breaking out of MAJOR lurker mode to check in and say hello this week. I am going to try to participate more here and not just read :)

Thanks Lynne for putting all of the work into our hats/visors order as I know you are one busy woman! The dedication to our WISH team here is what keeps me coming back!!

Lily - so happy to see you hear with optimism in your posts and a bright future ahead. Can't wait for Minnie weekend to give you a big hug in person!!

I was really sick for a couple of weeks but have finally gotten to feeling better enough to get to the gym and plan to get outside soon. Headed to NC this week with the kids for a quick family celebration (my grandparents are both turning 90 this week!) so won't get as much w/o time in as I'd like but once I return I am vowing to get serious again.

Thank you all for continuing to inspire me day after day, week after week, month after month!!

Hey team - Quick post as I have to get the girls to bed. It is still snowy and sloppy here in Wisconsin, but I am happy to say that I went to the Y today and did 5 miles on the indoor track. Quite proud of myself and I haven't been feeling up to it, but my pace was pretty good (for me anyway!!!)

Debra - That is crazy that you did 12 hours of movies. We took the girls yesterday morning and it was all we could to do to stay sane!!!! Oh wait, you didn't have two crazy and crabby kids with you!!! This month and for the next 3 weeks Marcus has this thing called Frosty Flicks, $2.50 admission and a small popcorn. Can't beat that price!

I want to say... WAY TO GO... to everyone that got out there and did their long run!!!! Have a great week all. Mine will be busy for the next 2 days, then I am off for a trip with my mom to a quilting retreat. I am taking my laptop and DVD's so I can get some cross training done in the room. WISH me luck!!!! There is no gym at this little hotel and it's in the middle of Minnesota, so no outdoor running either!!!

Kristi: Yoga in a tank top? The idea intimidates me--I hope to get to that level of self-confidence. You rock! :cool1: (I'm working on it, so keep telling the stories till things sink through my thick skull.)Me? Self confident? :rotfl:
Seriously, I think I am just getting older and not caring what anyone else thinks anymore.
Also, yoga was much easier when I wasn't fiddling with my shirt hanging in my face, or pulling on my arms, etc. :thumbsup2
I have always despised my upper arms.
I think I kind of gave up on them when I was diagnosed lymphodema in the left side.
I am also not allowed to lift more than 10 lbs. with the left arm.
But, umm, I might sometimes do that... :ssst: Downward dog has to count for more than 10lbs., I think.

I am coming down with whatever yucky sickness Zack has. :rolleyes2
I should be doing a "5k race" as training today, but I might go home early from work and hit the sack.
Get this - I was really considering calling out sick today.
But last night I called Chad at work to check the schedule for me, and was I alone this morning.
WELL, the girl that sometimes works with me, didn't know her schedule and came in anyway!
She said since she was here, she'd just stay.
Guess she doesn't care that she is supposed to be doing the day shift today. :confused3
I could have stayed home! I about died when I got here this morning. :sad2:
But since I am here, I might as well stay.

Christa - how's your Mom doing with her treatments?

Kristen & KZ - Y'all are the cutest. Can't wait to meet y'all at the Cotton Row. I'm still training for the 10K.

Kristi- Hope you feel better.

Jen- I think that 5 miles is awesome! :thumbsup2 I did my first 3 mile run yesterday. It wasn't terrible, but at 2.3 miles, I just had to stop and walk. I started running again at 2.5, and ran until I finished at 3. So I am amazed at 5 miles!

Rhonda - :welcome: Everyone here is really nice, so come out more often

That's all I got time for right now. It's time for the bus, and time to walk the dogs. More minutes and miles for the Buzzies! ;)

Just want to let everyone see how great WISHers are, especially Team Ohana!

Greetings from Team Ohana!

Seeing that our fearless leader, Lily, has been under the weather and unable to train on her own behalf, several members of Team Ohana have generously donated a portion of their hours/miles to her. Most of us just donated whatever we did on Monday, but a few that did not workout that day chose another session. Also, there are still a few people who have not yet reported their miles, so the total may increase. Please know that these miles/hours are a true gift and have not been included in our team's total. We gladly offer them to be placed in Lily's account:

15.99 miles, 5hours,54 min (5:54)

Sending best wishes for her speedy recovery from your Team Ohana cousins. :grouphug:

Huge thanks from Walt's Warriors!!! :grouphug: :grouphug:

Good Monday Morning! :wave2:

Hope everyone is well today!!!

Welcome Julie and Rhonda!!!

Way to go Vic on the 7 miler! I'm so jealous of your weather right now!

Jeff...Your girls are so cute! You know..Location, location, location...you really don't have to remind us! :goodvibes

Lily...So happy you are back!!! :flower3:

Lynne...SURFERS??? WOW!

Terri...Glad your back is feeling better!

Amy...Glad you got out there for a good run! :thumbsup2

Me...Oh, nothing new. I got out there yesterday for my 3.5M run. Suprisingly, I ran all of it...SLOW except 10-15 sec there towards the end...STUPID NUMB FEET! ugh! I felt really good and never really needed a walk break which is sooo NOT ME! It was definately a nice change!

So...I'm kinda scared to say this out loud...but...I registered for the 1/2 marathon!!! :faint: I've only done a 5K so far and hope to successfully complete the Minnie in May. My longest run so far was yesterday--3.5M! I'm super nervous, but super excited too!!!! :hyper: WOW! I can't believe I actually registered for it!

Oh yea...why are all the smilies in a different place now??? The ones I used a lot are now in the "more" ugh.

Happy training everyone!

Got out there and moved on to Week 2 of the Couch to 5 K. Loaded the podcast, grabbed my mittens and earwarmer (it is 23 out there) and off I went. I warmed up quickly and it wasn't so bad. It isn't windy so that helps.
Did 2.5 miles, took me 31 minutes and I felt good! I was able to do the Week 2 and that makes me want to smile :cool1: !

I'm signing up for a workshop at teh end og March, though. SO, I will at least have to be done reading by then!

Allyson - WOo hoo! Anythign that makes you smile is awesome!

Julie - DOn't worry about keeping up. It is overwhelming at first. Hope teh new shoes work. Be careful not to ramp up too hard. Overdoing it too soon is the worst thing in teh world for you. SLow and steady is really best for teh first time.

Craig - You need to upload teh pic to teh web. Photobucket.com is free and very easy to use. Once you have your pic uploaded tehre, coly teh line below the pic that atarts with [img.... and paste it in your post where you want your pic.

I did get outside f r6 this weekend anf am hoping to beat teh rain/snow fro my 60 min tonight. My 6-miler made em quite happy. Best pace I've had since probably Minnie training last year. Hada yucky mile 3, but was prooud of myself fo over-coming that and kicking it up again.

Flu bug/other sickness seems to be gone :cool1: , so now back to training for the Minnie.

Lynne, thanks for the hats/visors - sent pymt to you this morning.

Jeff - love the pics - your dd's are adorable, and I sooooo want to be in Hawaii now - we're expecting more snow/sleet tonight into tomorrow. YUCK!!!

Jeff: Absolutely precious girls.
Lynne: Surfers? Oh my. My boys just asked me when they can go tubing in the lake. Currently, there is ice on the lake---it'll be awhile. They just shrug their shoulders and act like I'm the crazy one.:rolleyes2

Did anyone else notice, in the pics of Jeff's girls, that Paula Creamer has an awesome rhinestone pirate belt on? Having all boys, I notice the cute little fashion things.:) When did golf become so fashionable? I love the added bling.
Way to keep moving everyone. I'm off to the TM since it's naptime for the little guy.

I had an eye opener today! (This is especially for those in the Atlanta area.)

DH and I went out to Sope Creek this morning. (Ran 4 miles, decent pace for me - 10:32, although my legs felt like lead! :crazy2: )

Sooo, after we were done we were driving back home on Columns Drive and this lady in front of us was flying (The speed limit is like 25 there?), ran over the curb knocking out a fire hydrant and a massive brick mailbox. Her car flew up in the air! Airbag went off and everything. We pulled over and I ran over to her as she was getting out and told her to sit down.

The homeowner then comes out screaming at DH (He thought he ran into his mailbox.), but then we told him it was the woman. She spoke little English and I felt bad for her, this guy was a real jerk. (Regardless, she shouldn't have been speeding.)

We waited for the police and he told us we could go.

Now Columns Drive has a bike path on both sides and gets alot of runners and bikers. I was thinking about going there this week for my 10 miler. But, now... Don't think so! The neighbor said their mailbox has been knocked over 5 times since they've lived there and his wife said it freaks her out to see all these runners pushing their baby joggers. Matter of fact, a guy had just run past that spot and had turned around to come see if anyone needed help.

Anyway, it opened my eyes! Guess I'll stick to my regular route this week.

Be careful out there WISHers! :grouphug:

Lily: It's great to get more news of your recovery. I bet you can't wait until Wednesday! Tell him that you're holding him to his statements about the Minnie, or that he's doing it for you! :rotfl2:

Terri: Take care of that back! Oh, and enjoy spring break. Can you believe how quickly it has gotten to be that time of year?

Amy: I mean to congratulate you on the the hilly run, not even for finishing it but for starting it. Now, that's dedication. I hope your DD is feeling better & the household is healthy!

Ms. Duckie: :woohoo: on the 7.5 & for taking a well-deserved rest day. As they say in those old Virginia Slims ads, you've come a long way, baby! (Note: this is not product placement nor an endorsement of smoking.)
Leashes & DH...hmm. Any stories you'd like to pass along?

I was fine with Ratatouille getting the Oscar--right now, Brad Bird can do no wrong and he represents hope for Hollywood mainstream animation, so the win was no surprise. I just preferred Persepolis (although, interestingly, I'm cool on the graphic novel and the film's narrative--too much "me" in the memoir for my tastes).

Rhonda: I'm glad to hear you're feeling better and will be on the road again soon. Enjoy your grandparents' birthdays!

Jen: Five miles on an indoor track--that's wonderful! I love your XT plan for the quilting retreat, which sound like a lot of fun for you and your mom. And I can't imagine an afternoon of movie-going with active kids, let alone a full day. DOOD had enough to handle with me and I with him, and we're presumably mature adults.

Kristen: Hi, and I hope your week is successful, too! You and KZ are sweet.

Kristi: Sounds like self-confidence to me! I do hope you're feeling better and that a little rest was all you needed. Take care of yourself.

Stacie: It sounds like a good run for you, although I hope there's not much more numbness in your foot future. And yea! :cool1: for registering for the 1/2!

Allyson: Congrats on completing Week 2 of C25K, and in nippy weather! :thumbsup2

Carrie: You'll definitely need to keep us updated as to your experience with the Chi Running workshop. I hope it will be useful & entertaining. (That's my image of it, anyway.) WTG with your 6-miler's pace, too.

Stacey: I'm glad you're feeling better. I bet you're looking forward to resuming training for the Minnie--not to mention doing the Minnie.

TXBelle: Great job with the TM & XT. I know, February is just flying by. Good thing we have that extra day this year, huh?

Craig: That is an awesome photo op, dude! You ride those waves and hang loose.

Shan: OMG--that must have been a scary sight to see, especially knowing the mailbox might have just as easily been a runner or a baby stroller. I never understand why drivers have to go so fast that they endanger themselves, let alone others.

As for me: I decided to add another XT day into my schedule as my legs & back are still sore from Saturday's movie marathon. In fact, I feel worse today than yesterday. I tried a long warm-up and extra-slow pace, but after a little over a mile my body clearly let me know it wasn't happy. So tonight I'll be slathered in Icy Hot, which DOOD swears to me doesn't smell institutional. When I smelled it, though, I thought, "Oh yeah? Then what's my chances for getting some quality time with you when I'm wearing this?"

We're back from WDW, but I'm not accomplishing anything tonight. I hurt my back last night, get this, bending over to fill the dishwasher with Cascade. One of my patients today told me that sounded lame so we tried to come up with a better story. I'm tied between sky diving accident and alligator wrestling :thumbsup2

DH and I ran from OKW to Cirque on Sat morning and I rode my bike yesterday while DD15 powerwalked 4 miles for her Minnie training. It was her first time trying walking only...she did the 4 in 55 min and didn't have any trouble with her knees!

Vic...thanks for spinning the thread this week!

Craig...righteous surfin' dude!

Lynne...surfers here are a bad sign. Since the Gulf is generally flat we don't see many surfers unless there's a hurricane offshore :scared1:

Rhonda...great to see you around here again! How's the Minnie training going?

Since we didn't get to do our 10th anniversary trip last year and John Bingham was nice enough to send us a discount coupon, DH and I just signed up for the RnR half in Virginia Beach over Labor Day weekend. Now to find some cheap airfare!

Oh and if anyone has any suggestions on what to do in Ohio, we're thinking about heading that way for vacation. My grandfather lives on a farm near Columbus and we'd like to visit there, Cedar Point and maybe Cuyahoga National (State??) Park.

I had to really force myself to go to my Strech and Strength class last night, but I knew I couldn't post on here today if I hadn't done it! So.........

Morning teammates. Sorry I've been MIA. DH's grandmother passed away this weekend, so we've been dealing with that. Did get a great workout in yesterday, shooting for another this morning.

I'm really excited about this weekend, though. I'm going to my first race, not as a participant, but as a volunteer. The Little Rock half/full marathons are on Sunday. I'm volunteering 8 hrs. at the expo on Friday, and then all morning sunday at the finish line. I do have to say, however, that I'm a tad jealous not to be out there running. Our little race must have gotten some great press last year, b/c participation is up almost 100% from last year--expecting almost 9000 participants in the half/full/relay, up from 5000 last year! I think the HUGE finisher's medal and the generous time allowance is a great draw--that and our gracious southern hospitality!

Craig--Dude! That pic is awesome! Never got up the nerve to try surfing when in Hawaii--after freaking out scuba diving there (something about the huge eel), the ocean was much prettier to look at from the beach;)

Okay, need to get DD ready for school. Have a great Tuesday all

That storm was fast and MEAN. The roads all around our house are closed because of downed trees. I think the entire storm lasted 5 minutes and yet it has caused major damage up here! No problems at my house except the leaky window that the builder is scheduled to fix this morning.

Yikes!

I had to stop running a couple of my favorite routes because of close calls with cars. Mostly it was as they were pulling out of parking lots or side streets. Never assume they see you.
The first year time I was training for a marathon my legs would get so tired and achey that I would sometimes fantacise about getting gently bumped by a car. It was a perfect excuse to back out of the marathon and pain meds to boot. I don't feel that way anymore, thankfully. I was just pushing my body too hard too fast back then. Nowadays, my legs seldom ache while I am running until I pass 16 miles.

Wow Shan...That is scarry! OMG!

Mel and Jeff...Glad you guys had a good time at WDW! Mel, I hope your back is feeling better today!

Stephanie...Sorry to hear about your DH's gmom's passing. Hope you have fun volunteering!

For me... I did 9 miles on the stationary bike last night... that was out it...nothing too terribly exciting.

Hope all has a great day!

Debra - GOod for you for listening to your body! SOunds like you coudl use a cold tub, though! ;)

Cecelia - Yeah, I've had those "just hit me" kind of days. I'd have more if there was a cahnce to get hit on a TM. :-p Hope your world gets cleaned up soon!

CHrista - :wizard: for your mom. It's still not an easy journey, but I'm glad she's strong. That makes a world of difference!

Mel - Welcome back! KNowign that you don't like gators bigger than 4', I'd go with teh sky diving thing. lol. SOmeoen asked my dad if he got hurt isn Aspen. lol. He's going witht hat now.

Steph - SO sorry about Scott's grandma. That's hard. Glad you are lookign forward to this weekend, though!

Carol - COngrats! That sounds liek a great pace to me!

Shan - Very scary. How far are you rfom teh SIlver Comet?

Stacie - You go your workout in. Excitement or not, that's a good hting!

I did 50 min on teh TM. We changed our schedules a couple times, so I accidentially started 60 min runs last week. 2 weeks early. :headache: The only thign that's keeping dh from killing me is that doing 50 on teh TM last night sounded like we were gettign a break. ;)

Ya, that storm was bad this morning! Our neighborhood is trashed! (Literally - it is trash morning and everyone's trash cans were tipped over. YUCK! I just got back in from my run and afterward picked up all the wet trash from our yard.)

Yes, I ran in the rain. I know I looked crazy, but after I get off here I've got quite a busy day. You gotta run when you can find the time, right? DH just looked at me and said - now that is dedication. :lmao: Course, my legs still felt like they weigh a ton. I guess all these extra miles is just new to me...

Carrie, the Silver Comet is quite a drive for me. Course, Columns and Sope Creek isn't all that close, either. I have no places to run around me! Supposedly, Cobb has approved and allocated funds for a new trail right by our house! After all is said and done it will be quite a long trail!

Here's a link for anyone interested -

Click on the System Map link to see all the trails Cobb will be eventually getting!

Good morning!

Stephanie -- sorry to hear about your DH's grandmother. Hugs to your family.

Craig -- your picture surfing reminded me of how I looked skiing a few weeks ago. <shudder> Hope you managed to stay on your feet more than I did! :scared1:

Rhonda -- a belated wecome from another newbie!

I'm supposed to run today but I'm a little under the weather. I really need to run since I had ice cream at 9pm last night. Hey! I was carbo-loading! :rolleyes1

Hey gang! Some day when I know you better, and we are face-to-face ('cause the story is better that way), I will tell you about my surfing lessons. And it's so much better when I've had a glass of wine. Suffice it to say that surfing lessons while wearing a 2-piece bathing suite isn't always a good thing. Water can be very powerful especially when you fall off a surf board heading in the same direction that the wave is and well, the results can be shocking.

Enough said.

lenshanem: brings a whole new meaning to the trash day, doesn't it? Hope you enjoyed the run in the rain.

Carrie: glad you got 50 min in. When is the race?

Stephanie: so sorry to hear about DH's grandmother.

WWDave: LOVE the picture! Ha Ha Ha!!! But don't tempt him.

Cruella de mom: be careful out there!!

Happy training everyone!!

Wow! This thread has gone quiet. I'll see if I can mix it up.

Rhonda

As ALWAYS, it is nice to see you. I understand I'll be dining with you on Saturday, May 3. With Martha there you can be sure I'll be on my best behavior, maybe.

Carrie

Already up to 60 minute runs? So what is your target for the Minnie?

Stephanie

Sorry about Scott's grandmother. Have a good time working the finish of the marathon. You may recall I cut chips at a race in Boulder last summer and had a blast. Well, after I dodged the "output" of the kid who came in and immediately cacked all over.

Mel

Cedar Point is remarkable IFF you are a roller coaster person. I haven't been there in many years, but man, do they have coasters!

WWDave

Great pic. It seems unfair that the shark doesn't have to paddle out, get up on the board, and likely fall off. In the film Riding Giants, I'm baffled why anyone would surf Mavericks and it's ice cold water, jagged rocks, long paddle out, and of yes, great white sharks.

Christa

I'm sure your training is going well, and hope your mom is doing well.

Debra

Remember that x-training which makes you sore all over IS GOOD FOR YOU, kind of like castor oil.

Kristen

That was definately one of my better rides. The problem is when you ride it all the way in, you have to paddle all the way out. I'm so un-fit for surfing that after about an hour I can hardly move my arms, especially when the instructor says, "paddle faster!"

Shan

Yes, when you push out the distance your legs really feel it. Be sure to vary the distance and intensity, some easy days to let your legs recover so you'll be fresh when you step out for long days. There is nothing less fun than having fatigued legs in mile 1 of a long run.

Cecilia

I agree, long runs on hard surfaces = just plain, sore legs.

Carol

22 females were behind you! I've passed this information along before, but when I was a freshman in high school on a Tuesday I first put on x-country skis, and on Saturday I entered my first x-c skiing race. 54 males finished the race, and when our coach got on the bus with the results his first words were, "allright Craig finished 45th of 54." Few race results have made me more happy.

Martha calls her surfing lessons in a tankini shocking. Heck, I call them highly amusing and tremendous viewing.

I pounded out 4.8 miles in 48 minutes on the treadmill today, and when I came out it was snowing. Can I get outside one of these days? 10 mpm was a breeze, so I'm feeling good about a nice Minnie. And yes, this will be easy since I haven't run a competitive 15K in many a year, but I'm planning to push the pace all the way to a middle aged PR and set fire to the darn course. A few weeks before the race I'll get me some really light racing flats, preferably in outlandish colors, just to emphasize the point.

:grouphug:

Yikes! :scared1: That's scary. Definitely stick to your regular route.

Hi everyone!

I'm in Dallas for a few days doing a travel agent training, and just thought I would drop by to see how you are all doing. I'm going to try to hit the gym at the hotel tomorrow, but they have us working until dinner time each night so I'm not sure I'll be up to it.:sad1:

Anyway I hope everyone is having a great week! I'll be sending good wishes from the Lone Star State.

Hey WISHERS,

I thought of all of you today while running through Ala Moana Beach park. There were ton's of surfers out, due to the south swell. No sharks, but a few humpback whales way out beyond the break.

I'll have to bring my camera with me soon, to show you the sights of where I train. Or is that just plain torture? LOL.

We cranked out 8.5 miles today. Around the park a few loops, then out to Aloha Tower and back.

Oh yeah, when I got back to my car, there was a hula halau of about 25 were practicing their dance moves in the parking lot. I found it quite distracting trying to cool down and stretch, while seeing all those hips a shakin'. LOL.

Everyone have a great day, and safe running out there amongst all the drivers on their cell phones, or just plain not paying attention.

Hey all - I have five minutes before my next phone call, so thought I'd check in. Have done very little running - though we did walk for hours on Saturday trying to find 7 koala bears in a forest of 7000 trees - failed miserably - but I saw a lot of kangaroos and a platypus.

Last night's running club was also stopped by a lightning storm hitting just as we were about to leave the pub - so we went back into the pub and drank beer instead (is walking to the bar cardio?). I got out tonight for 30 mins though - before another storm.

Got veeerryyy excited this morning - they said on the news that Disney had been looking at property in a place called White Bay here in Sydney, which I can see out of my window - so came straight on here only to find out, they looked, but nothing came of it. It's actually a container port at the moment and I can't see it being big enough for a park - it's a majorly residential area too, so we were thinking something to do with the cruise line.

Anyway, gotta go now as there's a lady sitting in London waiting fo rme to call her - which reminds me, Craig did I see something about you going to Fulham? Tim will be most upset that you're not going to QPR if you are!!! They're only up the road - Helen

I am back and nice and sore. I think I may have to take it easy for a few weeks and see if I can get over all these little injuries.

To catch up on what I remember.

Craig - Nice picture. Not many students actually get to have a cool professor.

Martha - Vic did say it was topless Tuesday so I am going to guess that the story would fit right in. :lmao:

Helen - Sorry you didn't see any koalas out but I would have settled for the kangaroos and platypus myself. I get tired of alligators after a while. :rolleyes1

HawaiiJeff - Great pictures of you daughters. So are they going to start golfing anytime soon.

Shan - That is a little scary. I sometimes worry about some of the roads I am on but just hope that the drivers are a little better than I think.

Mel - Glad you had a good trip. Sorry about the back but since everyone in Florida is supposed to have an alligator in thier back yard, I figure sky diving would be a better story. :rotfl2:

Stepahnie - Sorry to hear about DH grandmother. Have fun volunteering at the marathon.

Debra - Glad you had fun at the movies and hope you can recover quickly. I don't think we could sit that long without a nice recliner. :rolleyes1

Carol - Congrats on the race.

Vic - Thanks for getting this started. So how do you audit operators, make sure they answer the phone when it rings in a certain amount of time.

To all those hit by the latest storm, I hope you made it through safely without any damage to anything.

Hello Helen

Yes indeed, we're off for London on March 13, and have tickets to the Fulham-Everton match on March 16. Everton's keeper is a Yank (the US #1), and Fulham has 4 Yanks. This is Martha's birthday trip, so you can see how good a sport she is that she's coming to the football match with her spouse and offspring.

Man I have to get to Sidney one day, if only for the surf and the pubs.

Bill

I suspect they use the word "eccentric" to describe me.

Take care

Good morning, team! Wow it's quiet around here this week. Where is everybody???? I don't have much to report as far as running goes, I haven't been sleeping well at night and I come home from work exhausted. I'm a belly sleeper and since I really can't do that anymore, I'm having some trouble getting my zzz's. I've looked at those body pillows to sleep with, but I really don't know how Stephen, Hines, a huge pillow, and me can fit in our queen sized bed. I may have to move to my own room. :)

Oh, question for the mommies, what did you run/workout in when you were pregnant? My running clothes are getting too tight and I'm not really sure what to do. Buy bigger and then buy bigger again in a few months? Start wearing Stephen's clothes? Spend the next 5 months on the couch? ;)

Mel--I'm so jealous that you just back got from WDW. I'm having some serious WDW withdrawls and knowing that I won't be back until January 9th isn't helping. Sorry about your back too, that does not sound pleasant. Oh, and I'm kind of mad at you: "what is there to do in Ohio? Hmmmmm, hmmmmm let me think....." How 'bout you come and visit me?????????? :) I'm assuming you guys will be coming in the summer and by then I'll nice and hormonal and grumpy!! Stephen will welcome anyone else to take my rage. ;) We're about 2 hours from Columbus and 4 hours from Cedar Point. And yes, Cedar Point is AWESOME! Stephen and I go there every summer (well, not this summer I guess), we got engaged there on 7/9/99, so that's kind of our special place. When you're over by the Magnum, look out toward Lake Erie, we got engaged on the beach right in front of the Magnum. Millenium Force is hands down my favorite coaster ever and go ahead and ride Top Thrill Dragster, it's not as scary as it looks. If you have any more questions about Cedar Point, PM me or e-mail me, we know just about everything there is to know about that place.

Craig--Awesome picture. I've love to go to Hawaii someday. Very jealous about your Europe trip in a couple of weeks too. Can you adopt me? I promise I don't eat much. :)

Shan--That's scary!! I've almost been hit by a car a few times while running, it's not a good feeling. Oh, and you are most definitely a RUNNER!!!! We know it. Your husband knows it. Now you need to know it.

Christa--:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for your mom!

Stephanie--So sorry to hear about Scott's grandma. Have a good time at the Little Rock marathon and try not to be too jealous! (But trust me, you will be a little bit).

Kristi--Are you feeling better??? How is the great job search coming along?

Martha--Can't wait to hear that story in person!

Helen--That is so wild that you see kangaroos on a regular basis, I can't even imagine! All we see are deer and raccoons. I'd much rather see kangaroos and koala bears.

Rhonda--Good to see you again!

Carrie--Wow, you are really ramping up the training for Minnie! 60 minute runs already? I'm so jealous that I'm missing the Minnie AGAIN! Did you guys get a lot of snow? We didn't, but I heard Cleveland go hit pretty hard.

Aloha Jeff--If Craig and Martha won't adopt me, can you? Living in Hawaii sounds like paradise! Do you actually get any work done or do you just run and surf and play golf all the time? I know I couldn't possibly hold a job while living there. :)

Bill--Take it easy, man! Let your body rest some. How are the boys and Lynnda? Aren't we getting close to Timmy's first birthday?

Cam--I know you're busy, just wanted to say  and

Debra--Wow, you are a movie buff!!! The only Oscar nominated movie I saw was Juno, I really liked it and was rooting hard for it. I think Ellen Page will be doing some great things, she seems like an actor's actor. How is training in the 'burgh coming along?

Carol--Great time on your Peachtree qualifying time. :cheer2:

I know I didn't get everybody, so for those who I missed, sorry and . Talk to you all later!!!

Hello Everyone

I feel really bad doing this again but I can not even begin to get caught up on this thread but I don't like being so AWOL.

So training is going well -- did 6 on Sunday felt great!!! Did 3 last night.

REALLY BAD NEWS: DH did something to his back again
He is not doing Sarasota 1/2 this Sunday obviously and is really upset because he doesn't want to go through this all over again. Deep down we knew it would happen eventually, the surgeon told us he would always have back problems (whether he ran or not) so he has been doing really well till now. The worst part is he is being stubborn and won't make appt w/doc.

Ok I really am sorry, gotta go back to work. Finally got our new computer at home so I will try to catch up tonight.

Having a great time with friends (what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas):lmao:
Haven't been able to do any actual workouts, but I probably walked about 6 miles yesterday. It's start and stop walking so I won't count it towards weekly totals, but it felt good to at least get a little walking done.

Angie - :wizard: to Bobby. How awful. Hav you guys looked at ChiRunning?

Craig & Krista - Actually, I have the Martian Half Marathon first weekend in April. That's what I'm traing for.

Craig - Goal for Minnie? No idea. It'd be worse than my goal last year, so I've had a hard time setting one. NOt to hurt is the first goal, though. *should* be ok there.

Martha - Martian if first weekend in April.

Yoga last night. I'm sore. Felt good though. Very much looking forward to a rest night tonight.

jmasgat
02-27-2008, 12:24 PM
Carrie I see you're doing the Martian 1/2--I have been thinking about doing the 10k, which is on Saturday. Not sure yet.

Craig So I may have to keep you in my sights for the Minnie. Even though it is my first race, I have set some goals: 1) Finish (I think I'm okay with this one) 2) Run the entire way--still working on that! and 3) Finish in 1:45, with a stretch goal (a very GM/corporate thing) of 90 minutes. We'll see.

Training has been alright this week--but I am tired. Did 3 miles yesterday and I felt sorta dead. Shoveled snow (ENOUGH ALREADY!), too. Today I did 45 minutes in the pool (and nuts to the guy next to me who pushed me out of the way. You could have at least asked/clarified what lane I was swimming in! )

Sorry guys, I have been lurking lately. I think I'm finally over the bronchitis thing though and am back to being active. I ran three times last week and now I feel like I'm ready to get on my schedule of 4 runs/week along with Fit Ball for cross training on Mondays. I've signed up for Bikini Boot Camp again, but that will start when Fit Ball ends in mid-April.

Hi everyone!
Been a bit of a crazy week around here between work and home. Started a new position and the bulk of training was "here ya go....have a nice day". Now coming up on month end and people looking for specifics. Wonder if I can just point them to the files and say the same thing....

Had more snow Monday night..argh...Chance of snow again tomorrow night then 46 Sunday. Welcome to Chicago.

Well those new shoes I bought two weeks ago seem to be pushing into the top of my right foot just above my big toe. Wore them for first long outdoors walk this past Sunday, had sore spot on Monday and realized when I put them back on last night for TM time it started to hurt right away. It seems to happen when my foot flexes when pushing off with that foot. Basically where the shoe bends. Not good so going to take them to running store I got them at tomorrow night and see what they can do.

Hope everyone who is sick/injured get better fast and great job to everyone for getting in the time/miles.

Christa: Thanks for the update on your mom. She's one tough cookie, and I'll be thinking of her, you, and your whole family. I'm so glad you all have each other.

Mel: As far as your back story, I go for a sky-diving accident that led you into an alligator wrestling match for your life. In a tankini! Hope you're feeling better!

CarolA: Congrats on your race and your pace, not to mention avoiding the DLF!

Stephanie: I'm sorry to hear about your DH's grandmother. I hope you're all doing as well as you can be, under the circumstances. And thank you for volunteering at a race. 8 hours plus the finish line--I admire your fortitude.

Cecilia: I'm glad you made it through the storm okay and with little damage to the house.

Stacie: I'M excited about your 9 miles on the bike--does that count?

Carrie: Icy baths? I'm not that desperate...yet. ;) I love the way you "found" a break in your training. That's a great spin on a schedule mix-up. I love the yoga soreness, too!

Shan: Your DH is right. Running in the rain IS dedication, especially since you followed it by picking up wet, icky trash.

Kristen: Ice cream carbo-loading. Now that's a program I can really see myself following to a "T." Thanks for the suggestion. :rotfl:

Martha: Sounds like a great story about surfing, very titillating. I'll even buy you the wine! :thumbsup2

Craig: XT as castor oil? That explains a lot. I think I prefer Kristen's carbo-loading plan. Your training program sounds like it's moving right along at a speedy pace. I hope the weather cooperates with you soon.

Kira: You're enjoying your travel agent training, I hope, even if it leave you little time to work out. Do you even get to see any of Dallas?

Aloha Jeff: I'm sort of a masochist, so I'd LOVE to see pics of your training digs and all the scenery. Hey, someone has to live there. If it's not going to be me, it might as well be you. :goodvibes

Helen: Thanks for the news on Disney's interest in White Bay--could it have something to do with Adventures, I wonder? More important, it sounds like you're loving your adventures: kangaroos, platypus (or is that platypi) and beer, oh my!

Bill: It turns out I can't sit that still for that long, either, at least not without having my body protest. Who would have thought it would be harder on my legs than the Goofy? And you take it easy and recover, as it sound like that's what your body is telling you.

Krista: You make a good case for Cedar Point--I haven't been there in years. Training in Pgh is going fine, as long as I take it easy (read: avoid) the hills. It's actually sunny right now! Windy and snowing, but sunny! Hey, did you hear the news that Steelers broadcaster Myron Cope (http://kdka.com/steelers/Myron.Cope.dies.2.663895.html) died? I didn't know who he was, but he sounds like he was quite the Pgh institution.

Angie: I'm glad your training is going well, but I'm so sorry for your DH. I hope he gets over his stubborn streak and goes to the dr. (do as I say, not as I do...:rolleyes1)

SamSam: Vegas, huh? It sounds like you're seeing a little action; if not on a running course than somewhere else. It sounds like you're having fun!

Maura: WTG with the training, especially when it's tough. And a double :woohoo: for all that snow shoveling...ew.

Leana: Yea! You're back and with an awesome plan!!! Just looking at your schedule makes me tired.

Liz: If it's not the Chicago snow, it's the wind....Hope spring is headed your way soon, along with a more relaxed work week and a new pair of comfy shoes. All are much needed.

As for me: :woohoo: for me! Today is the first day in probably two weeks I've run that I've actually felt good doing it! Hopefully that means my knee is on the mend and that I've fine-turned my XT to help me strengthen it. Now if the weather would just cooperate with all my plans....

Hi everyone

Just a quick post to catch up on the weekly thread!

Angie...OMG...sending some PD to your DH that his back flare-up is short lived. He must be so bummed about the race :(. That really stinks...and I know the pain is really brutal too. I agree with Carrie...you guys should check out the Chi Running book. I'm making my way through it right now and hoping it will help resolve my linger hip issues. The book makes a TON of sense :).

Debra...SO glad to hear your knee is feeling better and that you had a good run today. GREAT news!!!

Stacie..WTG with the workouts girl...9 miles on the bike is awesome XT!

Liz..more snow? Geesh..I hope it's not coming our way again. I'm SOOOO over winter. :sunny:

Craig: Rad picture. Thanks for sharing it :). I guess it's not so much of a leap from a parrot head to a surfer ;).

Martha...can't wait to hear the story...you'll be at the Minnie right? LOL!

OK guys...I know I missed a bunch of you...but my brain isn't functioning tonight so I'm so sorry. Hope everyone else is doing great! :goodvibes

As for me....As Betsy pointed out on the tri thread....I did a mini-duathlon today :). I did 20 on the treadie...then ran down and took an hour spin class...then went back to the treadie for a quicker paced 20 minutes. managed to work the heaviness out of my legs...but it took a good 1/2 mile to do so. Tonight I tried a (and I quote) Super Advanced Reformer on the Mat Pilates video. And....drumroll....I found the limit to my core strength :rotfl: . It was more cirque de soleil than pilates IMO....and my body just wasn't cooperating. Anyway...though I'd share. It would have been HILARIOUS to see...fortunately I was alone ;).

Enjoy the rest of your week everyone!

GOOD EVENING TEAM

 YEAH I CAN POST FROM HOME AGAIN!!!!!!

Yes DH is very bummed, which around here means "cranky". For everyone who suggested Chi Running, as you guys had been talking about the book on threads weeks back I kept thinking that it sounded like it would be really good for us.

DH did go to Chiropractor today. One thing about his back issues is before the surgery last year, for years anytime he had a back issue he would go to Chiro for a few sessions and then be fine. So Chiro told him today, we will try a couple of sessions but if that does not help you are going back for MRI.

So I got up this am at 4:45 and went to gym :thumbsup2 and did Bodypump(weights) :yay: - some of you know I AM NOT!!!!! MORNING PERSON.

So I'm thinking I can SOOOO get up and run tomorrow, wrong!!!!! It is going to be 35 degrees here in am, DO YOU KNOW HOW COLD THAT IS FOR A FL GIRL????? :beach: HOW DO YOU PEOPLE UP NORTH DO IT? It literally hurts my chest trying to breathe and run in that.

I am having such a hard time fitting all the training in, hence the 4:45 am morning.

BTW: Shan - the sleepover was a nightmare,:scared1: but thanks for asking and I did SURVIVE. :lmao:

OK so I am off for the evening.

Angie - lots of  for Bobby.

Christa - gald to hear your mom is doing well with treatments! More

Krista - I sent out one resume! :rotfl: It took me 4 hours to get it together. This job thing is exhausting. And do not go the couch potato route that I went! You will regret it later, I promise. (as long as you can still exercise safely of course). Can't help with the sleeping thing as I am a side sleeper anyway. I just remember near the end not being able to get out of bed unless I literally rolled off the side! :lmao: The belly was nice a resting place for a bowl of ice cream though. :thumbsup2

I am feeling better and got in an hour of fitness yoga. I am really liking it. You don't get all crazy sweaty like you do during cardio, and you still feel it the next day. Besides, I bought a mat, bag and 2 new yoga-type outfits, so I have to go, right? ;)

Sorry I missed alot of people - have to get to bed!

Best of luck to Bobby and you with this setback. I know I'd be crabby too.

Good luck with the search. I hope you land precisely what you are looking for.

Krista...one of the first things I wanted to do after both kids was born was sleep on my stomach! I learned to sleep on my side after awhile. I was able to get by with propping up my left leg so I wasn't flat on my stomach but couldn't even do that in the last trimester. If you're up for it, we'd love to see you guys. We're looking at July for vacation so not sure how you'll be feeling then.

Angie...totally agree...I feel like such a wuss complaining about these temps when I see what everyone here has to deal with. But dude, it's cold tonight! Sorry to hear about Bobby's back :wizard:

Just wanted to mention...Betsy has started up a really cool triathlon thread for those that are so inclined to multisport. I'm thinking about some tri or duathlon action since I don't really know anymore how much of this pounding my foot's gonna tolerate.

Lots of new people joining the miles/minutes game...welcome to all our new folks!

Mel--Maybe we can have a birthday celebration in July; you're 40th and my 30th!!! :) Oh, and where does your grandpa have his farm? I went to college about an hour north of Columbus in a large farming community and very close to Amish country. I wonder if he lives near my alma mater.

Angie--:wizard: for Bobby's back!

I better get off here and head to bed, I'm hoping if I stay up until I can't keep my eyes open that I'll be so tired that I won't notice that I'm sleeping on my side. Good night, everyone!

Morning all. Hope all is well. I've been super busy--seems like the work more than doubles with DH out of town. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers re:Scott's grandmother. The funeral is today (he went to Cleveland, I stayed home with the kids), and then he'll be home on Saturday. I've managed 3 really good workouts this week. Gonna try for a LR outside (gasp) on Saturday. I think the last outside run I've done was at disney.

Angie--PD for Bobby's back! Sure hope that it's nothing serious!:wizard:

I'm on the west side now, but I grew up not too far from the proving grounds. Love seeing teh pic at Test Track. We'll have to see if we can go to the expo at a time that wil coincide with the 10K. Let me know if you sign up! Grrrr....to teh guy in the pool

Debra - Woo hoo on teh knee. FYI, I never say ice baths, I say cold tubs. I am a whimp! ;-) BTW, my first cold tubs happened not too long after I finally got the whirlpool tub I had wanted my whole life. That was depressing!

Leana - Glad to hear you're finally feeling better. DOn't push too hard, though. You're gonna' need time to get back to normal again.

Amy - Just eradign about all you do makes me so tiered. Lol about more Cirque than pilates. I think Crique qould still eb too refined for what I'm sure I'd look like. :p

Angie - Forgive me. I live fro 35 degree days. How do I do it? I give up teh ability to be able to run when it's over 65. ;) Yeah, you can't have it all. :upsidedow Hope teh chiro helps. Let us know when you start reading CHiRunning. I'll try to hurry so you don't catch up to me. :rotfl: It does have great stuf fand makes sense, just can't read too much at a time.

Krista - Have you tried one of those long pillow things that are supposed to help? Won't get you on your stomach, but might get you mnore comforatble. :confused3 OK, I know you look 18, but I was sure you were at least in your 30s. Ugh, now I feel old. :sad2:

Kristi - :rotfl: Yoga, another free sport, except the mat and the clothes and the class fees.... I figured I had planty of clothes. Of course, my runnign stuff is mostly baggy and fall teh wrong way when upside down. Need an addition for my fitness wear. BTW, did you get my e-mail? It was big, so don't knwo if it went through.

Mel - Want to read CHiRunnign with us? Supposed to get rid of all that pounding. You could fly up and do the workshop with us, stay 'til the next week an dthen do martian. :teeth: Shhh..don't tell but Scott wants to do a tri adn if I can figure out how to swim on top of th water, I might try too.

I rested last night. My body is still draggging a bit, but I think it's just trying to get out of another TM workout. ;)

Oh, I thought of things this weekend adn wanted to see if tehy count for miles competition:

1. Power Thunderstick usage at teh hockey game.
2. Rocking a baby on you hip as hard as you can to keep them from crying so mom won't take him away.
3. BIL's ower abby burping. My gosh, how hard can you whack a child before it hurts? :scared1: My arms were tired.

Any minutes count Dave? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Good morning WISHers. I don't get over here as often as I'd like. I was thinking last night about how wonderful some of our WISH members are and how good it feels to belong.

Anne is such a joy to be around. To her no one is a stranger, just a friend you haven't met yet. She is love on two feet.

Valentine and her team out there on the marathon route cheering and handing out goodies was such a lift. I had to finish I couldn't let them down.

It was so cool to get those backpacks form John and Karen. Erica still uses hers for her dailey purse, screw the designer stuff, the WISH pack means way more to her.

I could spend all day on this since there are just so many wonderful people on WISH. To everyone of my WISH team mates, thank you, y'all are the best.

Happy Panda:hippie:

Evening all. After a pretty long day, I am getting ready to strap on the shoes and get a couple of miles in before hitting the sack for the evening. We have our monthly 5k around the Embassy compound tomorrow morning - this race has become a good milestone of the passing months and one that I look forward to. Usually a pretty good turnout for the International Zone - around 350 on average. And, more importantly, they give out free t-shirts as well! This will be my 10th t-shirt. They are in Iraqi sizes, so I get the largest shirt available and send them back home for the kids.

Congrats to my wife who called this evening to tell me of her good run for the day - way to go, honey! I love how a good run can make quite a few problems and worries disappear.

Time to hit the perimeter road - nice evening in the low 60s with no wind.

Hi! I'm new here and hope it's okay to jump in. I found this forum while doing a search online for information on the Disneyland Half in Aug. My name is Casey, I live in Las Vegas, I'm a stay at home mom to two kids - a 5 year old and an 8 month old. I started running 4 years ago. I have done many 5 and 10K's but never a half.(I just did my fastest yet 5K race last weekend) I am currently following the beginner half training schedule on Cool Running. Right now I'm doing an average of running 20 miles a week. I reallllly want to do the Disneyland half and will probably be signing up very soon! I've been reading over threads and you all have already helped answer so many questions I've had. :)

You have definitely found a great place for info and support. A lot of WISHers have done DL before, and there's going to be a number more going this year. There's a thread about it, if I was more techno-savvy I'd find it and put in the link, but just keep your eye out and you will see it.

BTW, there are also going to be some of us heading to LV for the half in the beginning of December. Please consider joining us, we are going to have a blast!:cool1:

Welcome, Casey!

The DL 1/2 is great fun...I've done it the last 2 years. Not going back this year, though, due to schedule conflicts.
The middle part of the course is sortof meh, but it's a fun event. Will cross my fingers for you that last year's heat really was a fluke. The weather was perfect in 2006.

Gatorphipps...I hear ya...I've been on the trainer the last few days, too, because it got cold and windy here. ugh. I've seen people out riding in full tights, and jackets, and...ummm..no. :confused3

Leana: I'm sorry your 4-miler was ugly, but yes! You got 'er done.

Amy: Okay, so there's your next career move. Cirque de Soleil needs you to audition! :woohoo: for your mini-duathlon! I love that you're always mixing it up.

Angie: Yea for posting at home again! And a bigger yea for DH's visit with the doctor. It doesn't sound like great news, but at least there's some plans and hope for progress. I don't think I've seen 4:45 a.m. since the marathon weekend--and I haven't missed it. Kudos!

Kristi: Strangely enough, I do find buying the gear and outfits makes me more inclined to go to yoga. Maybe I'm trying to earn my class cred? I'm glad you're enjoying the class and its less-sweaty side benefits. Keep sending those resumes out--I empathize with your search! :thumbsup2

Stephanie:  for keeping all those household balls in the air while Scott is out of town; your family has my sympathies. I'm glad you're taking some time for yourself and are rocking your workouts.

Carrie: I love your brainstorming for ways to earn extra miles/minutes? Can you figure out a way to make shivering in 35-degree days (which I think is warm, but hey!) and cold baths count? Btw, I would have been despondent over the whirlpool/cold bath moment. Life can be cruel.

Z: Good luck with your monthly 5K around the Embassy. That turnout sounds fabulous, and I'm glad the runs work for you as milestones.

Casey: Welcome--we're sooo glad you jumped in. The water's fine, isn't it? Doing the DL 1/2 sounds like a lot of fun, and what incentive to move to the 1/2 distance! I hope you get to hook up with other WISHers.
Congrats on your 5K PR, btw.

Christa: WTG on your swimming (see how cleverly I dodged that one? ;) ) and I hope your weather warms up just for you and in time for your bike ride!

Martha: I second your request. Can it be spring now? Geez, I feel like such a wimp, but I really want to be a FL gal like Angie.

As for me: No real news as it was a light day. I am looking for suggestions on workout DVDs, though. It occurred to me last night that I have a Netflix account where I can circulate through programs without having to keep them, thus freeing up storage space & alleviate boredom. Any and all suggestions are welcome; I'm pretty democratic in that way.

ETA: Oh, yeah. DOOD and I finally registered for the 2009 WDW Marathon. We wanted to save that $15 increased fee by getting signed up before March. We'd been putting off registering, though, to try & keep the budget balanced. But we're officially in. And DOOD even casually mentioned the ToT event. He's coming over to the dark side! :woo hoo:

Debra - I am a big fan of the Leslie Sansone DVDs. Even though it is walking in front of your tv, it is different: side steps, kicks, knee lifts and lots of upper body work while walking with a stretchie band. I also like her walk & Jog DVD. I also have a couple Minna Lessig videos and like them as well for toning.

Martha - I am with you on the snow - it's for the birds! I was not expecting that this morning either as I left for work. The plows hadn't been out much either when I left, so I was late for work.

Thanks for all the well-wishes on the job search, guys! :goodvibes
Now, if I would just send out more than one resume! :rotfl:
The good thing is that I do have a job in the meantime. So, I am not going to be over the top nervous on a job interview thinking it's do or die. If they don't like me, they don't like me. Simple as that. I still have lovely Ch 7! Oh lucky me. :sad2: (and yes, that was hugely sarcastic)

Kristen....Congrats on the good run!! That's always such a great feeling of accomplishment. Way to go girl :).

Kevin...Best of luck on the 5K! Stay safe. :thumbsup2

Debra....If you like Pilates....believe it or not the Pilates for Dummies DVD is actually REALLY good instructional pilates (with both a beginner and intermediate level class). It's very classically taught...which means it's safe and well described. I believe it's available through NetFlix :).

Casey...welcome :goodvibes

Carrie...you guys are doing the Chi Running workshop??? You HAVE to post a review when you get back. There are quite a few opportunities to go to them around here...and I'm very curious. :)

Hi guys...was a busy workout day for me and now I sit here kind of wiped out. I tried to make it to yoga this morning but was 5 minutes late due to traffic :(. As a fellow instructor I just couldn't walk in there late...just wouldn't look good. Clients can walk in late...not instructors...just not cool. SOOOO...I went shopping  . But I did get back to the fitness center a few hours later....and did my speed work on the treadmill! Same as last time...1/2 mile warm up, 1/2 mile at 8:30 mpm, 1/2 mile at 10:00 mpm, 1/2 mile at 8:20 mpm, 1/2 mile at 9:30, 1/2 mile cool down. Overall a solid run! Then tonight I took a yogalates class then taught my fusion flow class. Now I'm exhausted. :faint:

Aloha everyone,

Deb & Kristie asked for photos, so I had to show them my stomping grounds. It was a little hazy out today, due to lack of tradewinds, but it was still in the 80's.

The photos on my link below were taken during my run after work, between 5:15 pm and 6:15 pm. Yes, it's that nice out when I run after work. People are out surfing, swimming, paddling, sunbathing, sailing, volleyball, boogie boarding, biking, snorkeling, and running.

My friend Chi (yeah, as in Chi Running), who trains with me, helped take the pictures of me. We cranked out 7 miles, dodging tourists throughout Waikiki.

Oh yeah, you're not seeing things, those are penguins here in Honolulu. They're at the Hilton Hawaiian Village resort, where we ran through on the way back.

Have a great Friday everyone! Get in your mileage.

Mornign all! I was actually outside yesterday adn it was close to 30 when I started, but it was cold. :confused3 Think it got damp or maybe it's 'cause i was so slow. Maybe I've been on the TM too long. Didn't go well. I was by myself becaue dh was sick. Put on teh yak trax, but they really weren't needed. AFter about a half mile, my foot hurt. Darn, YKs too tight. Then , calf hurt. WTH? Took off teh YKs and was better, but my body just wasn't into it. Almost a minute slower pace on my 50 min run than my 6 miler Saturday. Ugh. Looked at my watch a lot, but then realized it was still only about 1/10th as much as I do on the TM. Did fell bad when I cam home and dh gave me this pitiful, "You went outside." I assured him that it was a very yucky outside run, but I coudl still see it hurt him to the core to be sick on a day you coudl run outside. :guilty:

Got 3" o fanow last night adn due for 3 more. Might be Yak Traxable tomorrow, but not fun for 8 miles. Then again, anything's better than the TM.:upsidedow

I did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yay: :yay: :yay:

I ran my first 10 miler yesterday! :woohoo:

I ran it in 1:49:25 - a 10:56 pace!

It was 23 degrees when I started and I was feeling a little nervous, but I started slow and by mile 2 I knew I was gonna be OK - I was feeling great! I walked twice for about a minute each to eat my Bloks and drink my water, but the rest of the time I ran. Mile 9 I felt my legs get tired, but I just kept on...

Came home and took an ice bath  and was too busy the rest of the day to really pay attention to my knees that were sore, but today I feel fine!

I'm sooo happy. Thank you WISHers for helping me get this far! :thumbsup2

Kristi: Thanks for the suggestions on the Leslie Sansone DVDs. I remember you talking about them on another weekly thread, I think. And thanks for the Minnie Sessig tip, too. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on your job search. How can anyone not like you--we think you're the cat's pajamas. (Although I don't know what that means, exactly.)

Kristen: Great news on having a good run! I think any time you walk away (or should that be run away) feeling you're had a good outing should be celebrated as an accomplishment. Preferably with pizza, of course! :)

Amy: A Pilates DVD. Why am I not surprised? ;) I was looking at the reviews for the Dummies DVDs on Netflix before I got all confused & decided to ask my WISH team. It seems like the whole series is pretty solid. I've never taken a Pilates class, so here is my solemn promise to YOU (and by extension, myself): Before I meet you in person, I will have taken one. Now, I might need to work my way up to it by checking out this DVD first. But I can be taught new tricks! :lmao:

Aloha Jeff: Awwww, I can't get into the photo gallery. It says "Album Not Found." Is it just me and my Mac? The pic in the post is beautiful, though, and it makes me want to tell DOOD we just have to visit!!

Lori: Did you sign up for the 1/2??? I'll be doing the Cleveland 1/2, so maybe we'll meet up. I'll be the one wearing the WISH shirt. :rotfl2: I did most of my training for the Disney weekend on a TM, btw. I was worried about that when I hit the course, but it turned out to be a non-factor for me. (Either that or I had other issues. :upsidedow)

Vic: Nasty WTO. Doesn't your job recognize you have better things to do, like hang with us?

Carrie: I'm sorry your outdoor run was so disappointing and, from the sounds of it, painful. Maybe this means your tomorrow run will be extra-easy. (Oh, how I want to believe things work out like that!)

Shan: YOU ARE SUCH A RUNNER!!!
Great pace, good fueling strategies, an ice bath, and you hit the 10 mile marker! :cheer2:

Anne: pixiedust: for your 5-miler & foot.

As for me: I went to the gym for Circuit training & XT. Fridays are relatively easy at this point, as Saturdays are LRs (relatively speaking) for me. Apparently the weather didn't get the memo that I'd already elevated my HR today, because another snowstorm has arrived. So I felt obligated to try and clear the sidewalk--even though it was, and is, still snowing!! Obviously, my efforts were Quixotic, but hey--it's all good for the challenge, right? Riiiiggggghhhht. I think I prefer Aloha Jeff's digs.

Shan - You go girl! You are definitely a runner. There's something special about hitting double digits. :cool1:

Anne - Good luck on your 5 tomorrow.

Lori - I'm with you on the commitment issue. We haven't decided either!

Jeff - I guess someone has to be lucky enough to have a view like that. Good for you! Thanks for the pix.

Amy - Can I count reading about your day as crosstraining? I get tired, so it seems it should count!

I'm in the middle of a 3-week taper before next week's half marathon. Saw the chiro yesterday for an active release treatment, and he said my ankle injury is purely muscular, not a stress fracture like I'd feared. He did scary things to my foot and calf :scared1: and told me to continue doing nothing until next weekend. It's kinda fun being told not to do anything, but I'm getting really cranky!

Hey WISH Team new folks, Welcome! :welcome:

I am pleased to report that the staples were removed Wednesday, I was given permission to drive Thursday and can walk to my heart's content, no lifting at all, no other weights. So, I did 30 mins of gerbil track at the gym for a 1.7-ish distance and a 17:30-ish pace. It felt soooo good.

Good news Jackie and Tiger Lily! :thumbsup2

Thanks guys for all the congrats. It is just funny to me - I feel like I'm pretending to be a runner. I know, I know - I'm weird. :lmao:

Hey everyone! I know I have been MIA lately - honestly I have been a total slacker!! I took some time off after the goofy and just had a really hard time getting back into it. But I am back to 4 days a week training (slow, no long runs yet). But hey at least I am doing it. Look forward to chatting with everyone again!

Shan - you have become quite the speed demon!!

Lily - so glad to hear you are doing ok!!

Dogcatcher call- has anyone seen or heard from Honeibee?

Good job everyone with your run/walk/wogs!

jeff- I can't see the gallery either but I also have a mac. I need to scope out future routes don't you know? I've ran the Diamond Head loop and around Kapiolani Park but I'll probably mostly run out by Kaneohe where I plan on living.

:) I'm just back from a week trip to see my grandkids in California and fun with friends in Vegas (tough life). :) I went out and did a very interesting 4 miles today. I'm still trying to find my walking/running style, so I take off (to a nearby walking trail) and I think i'm trying race walking when I pass a fellow exerciser (going the opposite direction). We stop for a couple of minutes to chat and I tell him what I'm doing, he says "you were jogging"...hmmm, imagine that :lmao: I think I need to do some more reading and video watching on racewalking. I spent the rest of the miles experimenting with different walking styles; laughing at myself during most of it. :)

Shan - Wow, you are a RUNNER!

Tiger Lily - I'm glad you healing and doing well.

I started on the last page of this thread, so now I'll go back and catch up.

Have a great Weekend!

Good morning WISHers! :surfweb: I'm getting in a little disboard time before heading out to clean the snow off the car and head to the gym. Big flakes and heavy. Oh what fun. But wait! I can add that time to my weekly totals! Oooo, I'd forgotten about that.

Shan: :thumbsup2 WTG on the 10 miler!! Your time was great.

Lily: so very happy to hear you are back on track (pun intended)!! But remember to take it easy. You must be healthy by Minnie.

xterratri: yes, I've heard from Judy. She is doing well but she fell on the ice the other night and wrenched her knee. I do hope she is doing better!

Time to break out the shovel. Happy training everyone!!!

Things I learned on my 5-mile run today.....

Running on snow covered streets is challenging--feet slip, things are bumpy. Clear roads are definitely better--maybe in May!

I'm getting quite adept at "undressing" while running. First the headband comes off, then the gloves, unzip the jacket and shirt a little. I'll feel lost running in the heat of Disney in May in only a singlet and shorts--what will I remove?:rolleyes1

Based on the Minnie 15k course map, I made it nearly to Hollywood Studios.

Sports Beans are yummy! I ate orange as I ran. And it actually passed the time concetrating on chewing and not choking, while giving new meaning to the term "eat and run". (I really feel the mental need to run the entire distance without walking breaks for re-fueliing)

And last of all, the best thing I learned is that I can actually run 5 miles without stopping, or dying. WOOHOO!

Hi and Welcome back, Becky! I don't know if you remember me or not. I was waiting around in the corral with you and your friend for the half. I was asking about your Garmin since I had a Nike Plus. I finally got a Garmin! Anyway, fun to be able to put a face with a name and glad you're back at it. I'm still slow. :)

Hey all! Well, my first shift volunteering for the Little Rock marathon was so much fun. I was in the full marathon packet pickup area for 8 hours! I got to catch up with some old friends and made some new ones--seems I insuated to a group of guys from Illinois that I would be giving out massages after they finished. I kindly directed them over to the finish area map and pointed out the massage tent, which of course, I won't be staffing!:rotfl:

I really hope that everyone, at least once, will volunteer for an event of some kind. I read an article in "Running Times" this month that suggested that for every 3 races run you should volunteer for 1. If that is the case, I definitely need to volunteer more. And the free goodies aren't bad either!

No running since Wed. for me. Had 3 good workouts last week and then LTO. Does cheering for thousands of runners/walkers count toward XT??? If so, than I'm gonna have a huge workout tomorrow! Okay, Scott just got home; need to jet!

Thanks for all the welcomes! :lovestruc I haven't signed up for the Las Vegas half but am definitely considering it. I'm glad to hear that there are others on here doing that event.

I am all signed up now for the Disneyland half for 2008! I'm also doing the Run Away With Cirque du Soleil 5K this month on the 29th. It's a fun event, this will be my 3rd time.
