Yes dear... it is... How foolish of me (Kitty giggles)
I get confused between Colin Firth and Hugh Grant and then I get really screwed up when they appear in BJD!!!
Pack umbrella straws... CHECK....
I hope you know that I was not mocking you. I am really not up on Jane Austen. I think I may have only read one work, Sense and Sensibility. Austin was always considered chick-lit.
I did just reread for the third time a fantastic companion book, "What Jane Austen Ate, What Charles Dickens Knew." It is the essential book for explaining everything there is to know about 19th Century England, from titles to land management, to money, to which fork to pick up at dinner.
I feel it is alway best to prepare for an unexpected rip in the fabric of space and time. One never knows when one might be on the Michigan Avenue bus and unexpectedly be hurled through a time warp into 19th Century Bath.
I like to be prepared for these sorts of emergencies.
Michelle, I'm impressed that you could pick out the names of the houses.

What airline are you flying?
Allegiant Air from ABE (Allentown) to SFB (Orlando). It's from 8am NS to 10:30am for $125 one way. It's on Thurs May 8. Then we pick up the car rental and drive to Cocoa Beach.

Some places around here are starting to go back to paper bags instead of plastic. Some towns have actually banned the use of plastic bags.
There is a store here that charges 5 cents per plastic bag. They have always done that since they opened up. In addition you get the benefit of having to bag your own groceries. They say that it results in savings that they pass on to the consumer, but truthfully I don't find their prices that much cheaper.
OK, back on my soapbox here. Other than for bagging dog poo, I HATE HATE HATE plastic bags. I argued with the people in our company about going to such a high degree with plastic. We still offer a choice, and I don't care what the plastic bag guys say, the plastic bags are impossible to pack well - compared to paper. I could beat the pants off of someone if I was packing paper and they were using plastic. Plus, I bet your bread would not be squished either!
This not even mentioning the environmental impact.

We'll probably leave about 6:00-6:30am......it takes a half an hour to get to the airport and we'll need to be there at least one hour in advance. It's my first plane trip since 911. So all the rules are foreign to me. This should be an experience. I love planes, John hates them and gets sick, which is why we always drive.

Hi,
My son (10) is sitting right here with me. He plays both Pokeman and Yu-gi-oh. He would be open to playing and/or teaching the game, he is considered intermediate. He would be open to some trading. And he will be bringing his cards along.
JosephThat would be awesome...my son will be so happy...he loves games and learns fast...he'll be happy to bring his cards. My DS is 7 hopefully he won't mind..but he's a quick learner. Are you going to any of the miniDIS meets in CA ? We are not sure yet because its the March one we could go to due to their spring break vacation and its a Sunday holiday weekend:confused3

I have a question for the Disneyland regulars...
We are only going to be able to stay over Sun and Mon at Disneyland, and haven't been before. What are the don't want to miss things you suggest?
It's me, DH, and 4 kiddies, ages 12-4. Thanks for any suggestions.I grew up on WDW so was excited to go to DL for the first time...I liked California Adventure though it does not take that long to see most of it....loved the Alladin show there and tried to ride those rides WDW doesn't have or no longer have like Mr. Toad's wild ride and the bobsled ride.....it was fun for us...but I do like WDW better since there is more and its bigger
shouldn't this be Fri the 9th????

John, I think that would be pretty easy to do. I use powerpoint pretty regularly to prepare my class lectures, but I always do the whole thing on one computer...so the only part I don't know about is how much time it will take to add a bunch of pages to one report. I will have my computer on board and it does have powerpoint. I wonder if people can email me that page ahead of time so I can come onboard with that portion already prepared? John, if it was done in powerpoint...would Sophia have the ability to open and use it since it isn't your program of choice?
Sure!
I actually like the new MS Office for the Mac, and unlike the Windoze version, it comes in a cardboard box which was very easy to open!:rotfl2:

Cameron gets along with most kids, as a PK, he has to spend time with children of all ages. We are only able to be at the April "meet", since we are part of morning church services. We will be at WDW on May 7th, and attending the "meet" at DTD on the 9th. If we don't meet up, we will figure out how to get them together. He's excited now that he knows there will be someone else who would like to play.

Just on your ipod or computer. You cannot burn video. You could also watch on an Apple TV.

I have a dog and a cat and six turtles. I'll have a house sitter staying here while we're gone. It's the kid, my husband's adult son who lives on the property with us in his own dwelling. He'll come and stay in our house while we're gone and take care of the pets and the mail and the phone messages, etc. We're not going home for another week after cruise so for us we'll be away for three weeks.....fortunately we have the kid here and don't have to worry about the pets.

Sounds pefect:thumbsup2 Just no Ohio in the winter!!!!:lmao:
Got that right! It is really icy on that driveway right now with all the freeze and thaw.
I did door to door for our levy campaign today, and it was supposed to go into the 40's today, but was REALLY cold! Did not near that - walked several streets with a teacher from our HS who teaches tropical biology and takes her class every year during Spring Break to Costa Rica to study a rainforest.
Going door to door these days can be a real experience, let me tell you.

I am trying to get Brent's babysitter and my dog to get along so she can stay here. My dog picks and chooses who she likes which is few and far between. My dh will only be gone 11 days so if we have to we will board her. We go to Pet Lodge which has been on the travel channel for being one of the top 5 kennels in the states. Except the price, we love it! We go to Mexico for a week and the kennel bill is more than we spend on our trip!

It was amazing and perfect. It was me, DM, and sister and we were only in the MK for one day so we got to do everything. I will find pics and post later if we remimbered to take any. We were very busy.
going to try the spray tan myself this time. My sister just did it yesterday, off to Hawaii today, so I'm getting the info from her upon return next week on how it was. I think I need a week of vacation to get ready for vacation, wax, tan, hair cut, pedicure & packing !!!
I would get the spray tan a few days early. On some people is rubs of on their clothes for a few days. It works different on different people.
Me too - but I wear long sleeves to the beach and snorkel in a skin......too much sun in Florida - but it is nice.....expecially today - we were diving, it is cold underwater on days like today - about 40 minutes at 70 degrees...brrr....
I would love a short wet suit but they cost too much. I wore one at Discovery Cove and didn't get burned and stayed warm in the water

We have two dogs. They used to have to go into boarding which was really pricey. The last 2 week vacation it came out to about $900, but there was no alternative.
I now have someone who comes and stays here while we're gone to take care of the dogs. It comes out to MUCH MUCH less than that. Plus the dogs are happier.
Also there was the whole hassle of getting to the boarding place the day before and dealing with the hours they were open, and then needing to get home on a Saturday before the boarding place closed, otherwise they couldn't be picked up until Monday, which meant more money, taking another day off work, etc. etc.
So this works out well.

The dog is going to a kennel that we trust (one of the store Managers at our company and his wife own the kennel).
The fish - I bought an automatic feeder at the pet store for our last vacation.
The gerbils and the hermit crabs are going either to auntie's house or grandma's house.
Hopefully, no more pets in the next 70 days!

I bought one for DH to snorkel in. I got it online at snorkeldirect.com and only paid $50 for it. I thought that was a good bargain. You can find them on the internet for less. You can do a search or check ebay or just go to snorkeldirect.

When I was teaching, I had a similar deal with the woman who was our aide--if anything happened to me, she was to clean out my classroom. It arose because one of our colleagues died unexpectedly. She was a real pack rat, even for an elementary school teacher!:scared1: She had collections of egg cartons, spools, all that stuff a real teacher KNOWS she'll use for something someday. We couldn't help but have a laugh over the stuff that was uncovered. But after it was all over I made Carol (the aide) promise me that she'd get rid of the really gross stuff right away. Fortunately for Carol, I retired before I could die, so she was spared! I, on the other hand, had to face the music of my years of "collecting"!:lmao:

Hi! I'm Heather and my husband was telling me about a possible group project for 4th graders on the Panama Canal. I would love to help and have our son take part in the project. I was thinking of having our son make a map book on the Panama Canal before we go. He study it in History just a few weeks ago but it was only one lesson and very short. I wanted us to study it a little bit more indepth. So please feel free to contact me.
Thank you, Heather
Sounds great! Seems like there is a lot of interest...it might be good to divide up according to grade. After I get through the fish teams, I don't mind organizing this - I think Fourmcds is thinking about leading this too. More to come!

LOL, I know how you feel Kathy. I think somehow I must be thinking, well, I'm in another country so I must be in another body! I'm doing the Outdoor Adventure and Parasailing, both things I thought I'd never do.....I was just waiting until I was "older" and out of shape I guess:rolleyes: So I have made a commitment to myself to lose 10 lbs and get back in shape before this cruise...we all have to have a dream, right? I just went and got the first in the series of 3 Hep shots last week. My Dr. also said 2 would be enough before the cruise, the 3rd is more of a booster.
Kathe
Ahhh, if only it were ONLY 10 lbs! Still really have 30 to 40 to go, but I have been exercising 3 times a week since last fall... I have really given up on being skinny and am trying to focus on being healthy. Trying to get in all those fruits and veggies, which is a huge struggle as I hate, hate, hate vegetables!
We are not quite adventuresome enough to try the parasailing or the outdoor adventure, snorkeling and hiking is about as crazy as we get!

My little slice of heaven is a lake called Lake Pleasant - it is in the Adirondack Mountains in Upstate NY... Started going there when I was 4 and only missed 2 summers (I wasn't old enough to drive...) I'm hoping to buy my own camp up there this summer so I can go and stay there and never leave if I don't want to!!!
My guess was wrong when I guessed Lake George.
The family of my buddy from High School had a camp on Piseco Lake. Her brother lives there year-round now. LOVELY AREA!!

Another thing I am coming to hate (besides veggies) is plastic bags. Everytime I go to the grocery store I bring back 20 of them. I have quite the collection of them.
DD#1 brought back two Fortino's bags from Hamilton and the grocery stores around here are starting to sell the "lifetime" bags. So a step in the right direction.

Allegiant Air from ABE (Allentown) to SFB (Orlando). It's from 8am NS to 10:30am for $125 one way. It's on Thurs May 8. Then we pick up the car rental and drive to Cocoa Beach.
Have you flown allegiant before? My friend is flying allegiant tomarrow but didn't realize that the airport wasn't in orlando. According to reports it takes about an hour to get to WDW. Is this an easy drive? Is it really that far away?
Edit- I saw you haven't flown in awhile. Has anyone flown Allegiant before?

We'll probably leave about 6:00-6:30am......it takes a half an hour to get to the airport and we'll need to be there at least one hour in advance. It's my first plane trip since 911. So all the rules are foreign to me. This should be an experience. I love planes, John hates them and gets sick, which is why we always drive.
It really can go easily if you are prepared. Wear shoes you can slip off, no metal, empty pockets of change etc. prior to getting in line. If you have a jacket on that has to come off and go into a tray to go thru the scanner. No liquids over 3 oz, meds in a clear quart baggie, take the laptop and the cpap out of their bags and put them in a separate tray to go thru the scanner. You should just zip on thru then. :thumbsup2

Deb, yes put the scissors and nail file in the checked luggage. I think they have lightened up on those kinds of things (i.e nail file and very small nail scissors), but I check them just because I am not sure what is allowed and it just makes it easier to not have to worry.

We went to dinner and an auction for Grad Night fundraising for the high school tonight. We got several items on the silent auction: an outdoor firepit, 2 baseball caps - a Dodge one for DrHug and a Dodge Girl one (pink, very cute) for me, a wooden wine rack and a gift certificate for Dominoes Pizza. It was fun and I think we raised alot of money for the safe, tobacco, alcohol and drug free night of fun for the kids. :thumbsup2 DrHug bid on some barkdust for the flower beds since that is something we need, but was outbid. There was a local monied man there that bid high on lots of stuff. That's ok though, more money for the kids. They did auction a week in Cabo for $475 though. That was a steal! If we had not had this trip planned we would have probably been all over that! Value was $2700.

Tough night here in DC. I was so excited to finally get to see my girls preform in Footloose tonight. It is the 4th of 6 shows. Gretchen made me feel bad for not coming to the first 3 shows.
Well frank has taken another bad turn with 104 fever and high blood pressure. They decided they wanted to run a battery of tests on him tonight and they thought it best if a family member be here at the hospital with him.
Well DH just can't be here cause he is the director and his brother said he is just to busy cleaning tonight (?????) So it looks like me.
My girls are just going to kill me. There are two shows tomorrow... But I really wanted to go tonight.

Oh Lisa you are being asked to do so much at the moment. to you and prayers for strength and grace to keep smiling.
Well some people worry about their underpants being clean and fresh in case of an accident. I worry about my house. What would my family think if they had to come to my house right now and sort through my belongings? Crazy sounding I know but my house being clean makes me happy.
Plus it is so much easier to maintain a clean house then having to spend hours doing a deep clean on a dirty house. Which is why it may sound nuts my kids clean their rooms every night, the fact is they are never really "dirty" so it is not a big deal and not a fight between them and I.
So for me keeping the house clean is the easy way out. :thumbsup2
Now that is how I feel but never manage to attain!:lmao: Well done to you.
Now those assigned didn't get upgrades? My theory maybe since we are not assigned right away its because we are getting an upgrade...wishful thinking:goodvibes
Well we have got to hope haven't we?
I have the same thing with Ray's daughter. I take care of him, attend to his needs, take him to the moseleum every week, pay for all of his expenses at Mrs. Bush, pay part of his monthly bill at Mrs. Bush, pay for his monthly pharmaceutical bill, take him to his doctors appointments, eye care, hearing aid appointments, whatever he needs......he's my step dad, but he's her father. The last time she saw him was about 4 years ago. He talks to her on the phone when he asks to call her at Mrs. Bush.....and I pay for it. No one came from his side of the family to Mom's funeral services. The only ones who are there for him are mom's family, not his own. It's very sad. But I promised my mom I would always take care of him and I do.
The bottom line is that we do what we must because we know that it's the right thing to do. There's no question, we just do it and we know it's right and we can sleep easily at night.
Deb, you're a star.

The fish - I bought an automatic feeder at the pet store for our last vacation.
The gerbils and the hermit crabs are going either to auntie's house or grandma's house.
Hopefully, no more pets in the next 70 days!
We have fish and our neighbour's daughter comes in to feed and check. Fortunately she has had fish herself so we don't worry. WE have discys which are very sensitive fish.:sad2:
what have I missed - skipped a lot of pages.
Oh, loads of plans, arrangements, lists for special events.......!;)
Is there going to be a way we can get addresses and e-mails of everybody?
We coulod all do a little card with our address and/or email on and deliver them to the fish extender those we want to have them.

I'll jump in because I also like the new Mac Office 2008.
They rewrote it an made it universal for the Intel based machines. I think it is more stable and faster.
They also took a Mac approach in design, so it truly feels like a Mac application rather than a Windows application in Mac drag.
It took a tiny bit of getting used to it but I quite like now. I have no problem working on documents that I created at work (on Windows office)

Am I the first one up today (in North America)?
I am heading out soon to work. My second job, leading WW meeting. Three again this morning.
Friday night after work I had to attend a WW staff meeting. Nothing like being in a room with 60 WW employees. Many are part time like me, there are also lots that are full time.
I have to weigh-in at every staff meeting. Actually I have to weigh-in once a month, having it done by another staff member and they sign it. I then have to send my weight slip to my boss who puts it on a report that goes to corporate.
They are having a bit weight loss push to help leaders get back to goal. I signed up for the 12 week contest. It's our territory against another for the biggest loss.
I now have to weigh-in every week for the next 12 weeks and send in my weight.
A little disconcerting because I am wearing business attire. Not the usual shorts and tee shirt like when I was getting to goal.
I wonder if anyone would mind if I stripped down and then weighed in?

I have a question for the Disneyland regulars...
We are only going to be able to stay over Sun and Mon at Disneyland, and haven't been before. What are the don't want to miss things you suggest?
It's me, DH, and 4 kiddies, ages 12-4. Thanks for any suggestions.
Let me get back to you on this one!
You're talking to someone who just did at least 5 weeks of Jane Austen on Masterpiece Theater!!! I do pack P&P for every vacation because just incase I do run out of things to read and I'm stuck somewhere... I can always get a good read out of P&P....
Me too, plus 2 rentals. It's been really fun.
Ahhh, if only it were ONLY 10 lbs! Still really have 30 to 40 to go, but I have been exercising 3 times a week since last fall... I have really given up on being skinny and am trying to focus on being healthy. Trying to get in all those fruits and veggies, which is a huge struggle as I hate, hate, hate vegetables!--Kathy
Kathy, this is the way to lose it - by giving up the words "skinny" and using the positive language of "healthy" You'll feel better inside and in your brain at what ever your size this way.

I got the Olympus Stylus 790 SW recommended by eeyorelvr10 (Thanks Laura!). She posted that the camera was on clearance at Target for half price, $149 instead of $299.
The 790 is 7.1 megapixel, has 3x optical zoom, and is waterproof to 10 feet. Perfect for snorkeling at Castaway Cay.
Today's Ritz Camera ad has the replacement model, the 850, for $299. It is 8.0 megapixel.

I got my info on fish team but just the first email - but not sure what now?
I will do some PM'ing about the Secret Mickey as I thought I signed up for that but never heard back anything further - any news on that part?
I will try to read and catch up - hope everyone has been better than us for the past 2 weeks!
Oh and I am so excited to be off the Champaign Girl waiting list!!!!
Of course we missed you Krisann. Glad to hear the family is feeling better.:grouphug:

:) Thanks! Oh and I forgot to say that my birthday was last Saturday - the day I got so sick and never really got out of bed at all. We had already planned on celebrating birthdays on the cruise because we will all be together (hubby will be in Iraq for everyone's birthday) so we have all selected dates that corespond with our birthdays while on the cruise to "celebrate" so I will still have a special day.
I still have not felt like ipening my gifts yet though.

Are you a Mac user? If so, you can bring it into iMovie and make a movie of it, then send it to iDVD and burn it. John & PJ have probably already answered this and most likely know a better/easier way.
I did not know you could do this Cherie. No need for me as I use Apple TV and iPods.

John,
What's new and different in Office 08? I'm not so eager to pay a bunch of $$$ if it's essentially the same.
Cherie . . .
More like Office '07 for Windows, but the biggest deal for me (and why I got it) is because of the dual binary with Intel support. The old Office '04 ran so sloooow on my MacBook through Rosetta. You can buy the student/home edition for much cheaper than the full edition.
I bought it on Black Friday . . . actually bought another copy of Office '04 that had a $6.99 upgrade to Office '08 with a $100 rebate. So I paid about $55 for Office '08.
If anyone needs the Mac sudent/home edition of Office '04, I have a full version - cheap!

I'll jump in because I also like the new Mac Office 2008.
They rewrote it an made it universal for the Intel based machines. I think it is more stable and faster.
They also took a Mac approach in design, so it truly feels like a Mac application rather than a Windows application in Mac drag.:rotfl2:
It took a tiny bit of getting used to it but I quite like now. I have no problem working on documents that I created at work (on Windows office)
Ian is right about this too. We are still in the stone age at the office where I work (Office '97). I downloaded a trial of Office '07 for Windows and really did not like it. The interface reminds me of something you would set up for a preschooler. The Mac version has a much cleaner interface.
Is it more like the old Appleworks? I still use that for my own documents; it's so easy! Word to me is so cumbersome--hard to find the things I want to use and it does all this stuff on its own that I don't want.
If you want more of an Appleworks feel, you should probably get iWork instead Cherie. It is also cheaper than Office. I have both. I have used Word and Excel so much over the years that I prefer Office. You can play with both on my Macbook in about 70 days if you want.
John said it couldn't be done, this sounds complicated to me but I appreciate the post. I just went ahead and ordered the DVD from History Channel.
John stands corrected. We have one of those portable DVD players sitting in the dustbin. An ipod is so much smaller, and so much easier to use and pack. I found that the screen size makes no difference to Sophia or any of us when you are watching video on the plane or otherwise traveling.
Well, I am going to immerse myself in ATT H### right now. Our internet connection is waaaay too slow for what I am paying for, so I am going to call their tech support. Tried to do it over webchat, but they told me I would have to call due to my setup.
Wish me luck!

So when I bring my brandy new Mac with me on the cruise, I can come and beg for some help???? I'll bring the Fruity drinks....
I wonder if anyone would mind if I stripped down and then weighed in?
.
Don't you love how everyone gets there and strips down to the bare essentials just to weigh in??? I was behind a woman once that took off at LEAST 10 lbs of jewelry... and her shoes... and her belt... and yes, did hit the ladies room twice before weighing in... and no...it wasn't me... I was in my usual tuesday night leggings and tshirt...

:thumbsup2
Wow, that's a lot of new rules.....I'm going to put the bathroom bag and the meds bag in the suitcase to be checked in so I don't have to worry about it. What about my manicure set? It has a nail file and a scissor in it. Can I bring it and leave it in the check in bag? The shoes will be croc flip flops and the laptop will come out of the bag, those will be easy. Thanks for the heads up.

Jill, it's about 45 mins to an hour North of WDW. But since we're going to Cocoa Beach, this isn't an issue for us. I wanted to get the better airfare, so I booked this one.
Edit- I saw you haven't flown in awhile. Has anyone flown Allegiant before?

Not sure about the nail file , but scissors with blades under 4" in length are allowed as are nail clippers.
I wouldn't check your meds as they are not a covered item if stolen (like electronics and jewelry). As long as they aren't liquids there is nothing special you need to do with them.
Don't forget a qt size ziploc to hold all the liquids in your purse - including neosporin, tide laundry pen, inhalers, etc. The ziploc baggie has to be qt size (nothing larger).
You can bring snacks thru security but no drinks.

Deb, yes put the scissors and nail file in the checked luggage. I think they have lightened up on those kinds of things (i.e nail file and very small nail scissors), but I check them just because I am not sure what is allowed and it just makes it easier to not have to worry.
Thank you so much angie. I was worried about my stuff like that. I'll pack them in the makeup bag inside the check in suitcase and hope that all is ok. I'll call the airlines too just to be certain. I would hate for them to have to pull it out and open all my stuff.

You can put whatever you want (almost) in checked. Even weapons, you just have to notify the airlines. We do put our meds in the clear quart bags and throw them in my carryon backpack so that if luggage takes a day or so to find us DrHug would not be without meds. I have only once had a delay with luggage and that was a long time ago, but too much of a risk with his meds.

Going out for a cream tea this afternoon which is a 65th birthday celebration for a friend, then visiting our son and daughter in law for a cuppa tonight. Othrwise a quiet and peaceful day. The sun is shining but there is a very cold wind. Apparently it is going to SNOW overnight!
Sounds like a lovely day Marilyn, enjoy it and celebrate Mom's day to the fullest! You deserve it!

Ok nobody has probably missed me but here is where I have been for the past 2 weeks or so - Strep throat has gone to everyone in my house - including me - and not at the same time. I have been the sickest and am just now getting back onto the computer really. I totally missed part 5 and now most of part 6 - I do not think I will ever get caught up!
Now a couple of things:
I will be updating the Who's doing what when spread sheet with the few that have come in over the past several weeks while I have been sick. If anyone else has their info to send - please PM me with it.
Congratulations on being an official champagne girl now!

I bought it on Black Friday . . . actually bought another copy of Office '04 that had a $6.99 upgrade to Office '08 with a $100 rebate. So I paid about $55 for Office '08.
That was a smart move! The student edition is about $150 with no discount for upgrade, so far as I have found. (I have Office student '04). I'm actually thinking of getting iWork. There's a free trial you can download.
Also, did you guys know that there's a section on the Apple.com website called "Find Out How"? It has a bunch of video tutorials as well as text documents covering OSX, photos, music, movies, web and iWork.

Are you having a Mac fan get together and workshop onboard?
Well, long, long ago (almost a year, probably) I mentioned that I'd love to talk Macs with both John and PJ on the cruise so I've been planning on doing that at some point. Nothing formal was set up. I'm just planning on picking their brains.
But if anyone is interested in hearing about the SUPERIOR machine, I'd be happy to talk to anyone who's interested. PM me and we'll figure out something.

Updates on our plans - feel like it is really getting close!
Well we had planned to come in - stay at a value resort for a few days and do some disney stuff and then transfer over on Friday to the Hyatt so we could take Disney transport from there what ever time we wanted and I did not want to spend the extra $$ on a moderate or above so I was willing to do this extra step.
WELLLLLL I then got to thinking that Friday would be so short and that was really the day to go to MK so I did not want to cut it short with packing and making our way back to the airport but also did not want to wait till the "resort bus" run on Saturday - also having to transport to a resort with our luggage via regular tranporation or taxi.
My solution? We are staying at the All Star Movies - getting there on 7th and checking out on the 10th. We will schedule an early morning Magical Express to take us back to the airport with our luggage - dropping us off close to where we just go and get on a bus to the port! This will allow us best of both worlds I think. The only downside is we will not get to meet up with the Hyatt people on Friday night.
We will be at the Poly for the Lua on Friday night so we will not make the meet in DTD either - kids only asked to do Magic Kingdom and Friday was the best day for us with other things going on.
Is anyone else going early and staying at All Star Movies?
We ended up doing a package with the Disney Dining Deluxe plan for food - so I also have to work on all the ADR's for evertying while we are there. We plan on doing some places we have never eaten at. And I thought making reservations for Palo was exhausting!
On Thursday we are going to one of the water parks - anyone like one over the other more? We love water parks and normally only go to Blizzard Beach because TL is closed when we go in January so we have never been to it.

Angie, I did see your answer about the manicure set. I just had to keep reading. Thanks so much, you really have helped. I had no idea what the new procedures and rules are. This is necessary to know in advance.

Deb-don't put your meds in the checked bag, just in case. You want those w/ you.
I know I usually put them in a carry on, but since it's a nonstop flight, I thought maybe it would be safe enough that my luggage won't get lost.

If you want more of an Appleworks feel, you should probably get iWork instead Cherie. It is also cheaper than Office. I have both. I have used Word and Excel so much over the years that I prefer Office. You can play with both on my Macbook in about 70 days if you want.
Thanks!!! I'd love to! I'd also like to hear about Apple TV.
I'm going to house-and-dog sit for my sister in about 10 days while they go to Hawaii. I'm planning to go to the Apple store as much as I can and immerse myself in their workshops!:lovestruc  :worship:

Not sure about the nail file , but scissors with blades under 4" in length are allowed as are nail clippers.
I wouldn't check your meds as they are not a covered item if stolen (like electronics and jewelry). As long as they aren't liquids there is nothing special you need to do with them.
Don't forget a qt size ziploc to hold all the liquids in your purse - including neosporin, tide laundry pen, inhalers, etc. The ziploc baggie has to be qt size (nothing larger).
You can bring snacks thru security but no drinks.

Is it more like the old Appleworks? I still use that for my own documents; it's so easy! Word to me is so cumbersome--hard to find the things I want to use and it does all this stuff on its own that I don't want.
Now that you mention is, it is a bit more Appleworksy that the former MS Office.
I like it. I certainly think it's more stable and just feels like a Mac app. Stuff is in the right place like preferences under the file menu rather than shoving it under the tools menu in "Options" etc.

I actually ended up wearing a t-shirt under my shirt and gym shorts under my pants. I did strip down for the weight in this morning. It was really early, about 7AM so no members where there, but because I am a leader, my weight did have to be witnessed by another staff person and they had to sign a slip to validate that.
I told my members about in all 3 meetings this morning. They LOVED it. They love the fact that I still face the same challenges they do.

Does it matter if you're flying nonstop vs. changing planes? I'm not sure what a qt. size bag looks like and whether all my meds and John's meds are going to fit in just one bag. Probably not......I can just see me carrying on 5 bags of medicines.

I think they are changing alot of the rules, but then again they can tighten up in a hurry if there is an incident. So, we just put everything in checked that we don't need to have with us.
I think I'll keep my jewelry, my documentation and my electronics with me in the carry on.....not sure about the meds yet, I have to look at the size of a qt. bag before I'll know for sure.....the rest I will pack away in the check in bag.....notice I said only one for me......that's our goal.....one each to check in and one each to carry on and one garmet bag to check in and that's all! Wish me luck, I think I'm going to need it.

Deb- I usually carry a weekly supply of my medicine in my carry on. I have one of those medicine weekly pill containers. I put that in a plastic bag in my purse and just let it go. I put the rest of the medicine in my checked luggage, in a make up kit so it does not look like medicine. I figure if my luggage takes that long to get to me I will call and arrange to get new medicine or get prescriptions faxed. I have quite a few medications that I need and take but I feel that as long as I have a week supply with me the rest should find me in time.

--Kathy
You've got a great attitude, good for you, healthy is definately the focus we should all have. I love veggies and fruit, but I also love bread, pasta, ice cream, cake, wine ;) I need to lose more than 10 lbs, but that's what I'm hoping I can actually lose before May.
But do you have to buy a set for every grocery you go to? Can you use the Kroger bags at HEB? Will the grocery store be offended? Will the sackers take it out on the produce?
I love my bags from Canada, because no one in Texas knows what they are!
--Kathy
We have a chain of grocery stores in Ontario that recently opened a store in Milton that is completely "bagless". Shoppers can purchase plastic reusable bins or bring in and reuse their plastic bags or buy the reuseable cloth ones.

FISH TEAM
Ok! The list is "finalized." If anyone sees an error, or if I forgot to add you to a team and you asked to be on team, please PM. If you are on a team, and no one has started the communication, please PM your team leader. If you are on a team without a team leader, then PM everyone on your team and start the communication. There may be cases where people stated that they will be on a team, but then become MIA. I suggest just moving forward without that member. Due to the amount of teams, I can not act as a "go between." So basically, please keep the communication between your teams. Have fun! And as we have said, you can also give gifts on your own - and deliver them whenever you want. After a couple days, this list will be "final" and any changes/additions will be done directly with each individual team. Thanks!

Everyone's giving you great advice on carrying your meds on the plane, Deb. A couple of years ago I had a friend join me at WDW. She flew direct to MCO from Toronto...and yep, they lost her luggage. She was just newly diagnosed as diabetic and was insulin dependent. It was very lucky she had all her meds on her, it would have been quite a hassle trying to replace them. Instead, we only had to replace clothing , toiletries, etc for her week long stay, as she never did get her luggage:sad2: NOT THAT THAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN TO YOU OF COURSE!

Life throws curves :) - and as long as we are all better for this cruise.
Updates on our plans - feel like it is really getting close!
Is anyone else going early and staying at All Star Movies?
.
Hi Krisann. Happy Belated Birthday :bday: party: Sorry you and your family have been so sick, but glad to hear you're better. I started out with a ressie at CSR from the 8th-10th but when the AP rates came out I decided to change it as I'll really only be sleeping at my resort. I 1st had ASMovies but I could only get a preferred room, decided to change it for an even cheaper AP rate at the ASMusic.(more DOD's on board;) ) I have the same plans as you, to take the ME back to MCO then the DCL bus from there. Maybe we'll be on the same bus to MCO :cool1:

Well, long, long ago (almost a year, probably) I mentioned that I'd love to talk Macs with both John and PJ on the cruise so I've been planning on doing that at some point. Nothing formal was set up. I'm just planning on picking their brains.
But if anyone is interested in hearing about the SUPERIOR machine, I'd be happy to talk to anyone who's interested. PM me and we'll figure out something.
It can be thrown in with a demo of Mouse Manager. Although Mouse Manager runs on both Mac and Windows.

This will actually be my first time flying Allegiant, but John has looked it up on MapQuest. So now we know. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
I am glad it is closer than I realized. They are very cheap flights and you pay per bag which I LOVE.

We will be at the Poly for the Lua on Friday night so we will not make the meet in DTD either - kids only asked to do Magic Kingdom and Friday was the best day for us with other things going on.

Don't forget that night is the Pirate and Princess Party so the park closes at 7pm. We are staying at the Dolphin. I love waterparks and TyphooN Lagoon is awesome but I think we might try Aquatica by Sea World this year. Still haven't decieded yet.

Does it matter if you're flying nonstop vs. changing planes? I'm not sure what a qt. size bag looks like and whether all my meds and John's meds are going to fit in just one bag. Probably not......I can just see me carrying on 5 bags of medicines.
I've never put my meds in baggies. They're in those weekly pill thingys and I just leave them in my carry on. I've never had a problem doing that. But in Jan. when my nephew and I flew to LA to go to DL, I had a bottle of kids' cold medicine in my carry on. I didn't even think about it. I guess they saw it in the X-ray and opened my bag to see what it was. They didn't take it away, just told me I should have kept it out for them to see.

I do not think meds in pill form have to be in the quart bags - only creams or liquids and they can be in a separate one than your "personal liquids" but must be in a bag. We just put our pill meds in the actual bags.

Yes -we are aware (but we are not going) that is part of why we are going because hopefully it will not be as crowded during the day - we have a character breakfast at 8 am in MK so we will already be inside for the park opening at 9 am - we have a ADR at Liberty Tree at 1 to sit back and relax some and then we will hit it again till 7 when we will make our way to the Poly for dinner show. We do Tour Guide Mike so we have our "plan" all set out and ready to make the most of the short day.

FYI Reminder:
If you have added on items to your agenda (flights, hotels, etc.) or changed your dates make sure you adjust your Travel Insurance!
The dates - make sure your start date is the day you actually leave your house to go to airport (like us we are going to airport on the 6th so that is the date we start - not the 7th when we fly out)
It was not much for us to up our policy $2000 to cover our airfare and disney stay before - just an extra $40.
As speaking of someone who has had to use Trip Insurance before - it is worth every penny!

Marr,
I like the term mad money. In my case, considering how much I set aside it was more like lunatic money!
Not quite sure what I was thinking, but if I live up to it, you should all find me passed out in a deck chair for 15 days, surrounded by empty glasses of fruity-fatty-boozy drinks (at least the little umbrellas will provide a form of shade).
Actually I feel much better knowing that it is all taken care of. I just want to really enjoy the cruise and not have sticker shock at the end (and fruity-fatty-boozy drink remorse).
I wonder, how much do people allocate for photos? I haven't set any money aside for them.
.
We usually spend about $200 on photos max - usually less. For some reason I usually like the ones we take ourselves better! But we normally get some stuff to send to the parents and at least one or two for us to keep.

This will be our 4th trip to WDW using Tour Guide Mike - I use it mostly for the days to go to what parks when. I know I usually put them in a carry on, but since it's a nonstop flight, I thought maybe it would be safe enough that my luggage won't get lost.
Do you think I should put them in plastic bags and keep them in my carry on bag still? I have lots and lots of them that are all in one a medicine bag.
What do you think?
Deb...
I take my meds with me all the time and believe me... I'm a walking pharmacy. I keep them in a meds bag in my carry on. In the original containers ESPECIALLY since some of mine are heavy duty pain killers. They can and will confiscate anything that is a narcotic if it is not in it's original container. Also I carry a photo copy with all my rx's just in case something needs to be replaced.
I have never had a problem carrying meds this way.
Depending on what you use for a carry on... I use a rolling back pack for mine and it works well.
Question for those mailing items - since we are spending several days at WDW ahead of time I do not want drag all our stuff to Orlando and was thinking of mailing some things like our snorkle gear and formal clothes - had anyone done this before - if so how far in advance do you send it? And what is the best way to send it? i am going to pack suitcased inside suitcases so I have places for everything to come home :)

Welcome...we are a friendly and chatty bunch!
I pm'd you about the fish team.

:thumbsup2
Don't forget effective January 1, 2008, you may not pack spare lithium batteries in your checked baggage – that is, the baggage you give to the airline for handling.

Back from Church and just had some lovely fresh bread we made in the machine overnight. Yum! Church had a Mother's Day theme and I came home with some daffodills and a bookmark. We are just in the process of changing Church as we left our last one a month or so ago. This one is quite a bit different for us but it is feeling 'right'.

Kathe
That's a great story Kathe, lesson learned. Hard to believe that her luggage could vanish into thin air on a direct flight, but she is living proof that it happened. Thanks for sharing.....I will definitely be carrying on mine and John's meds.

It has a nail file and a scissor in it. Can I bring it and leave it in the check in bag? The shoes will be croc flip flops and the laptop will come out of the bag, those will be easy. Thanks for the heads up.

That's precisely why we moved from the ASMovies to the POFQ. We don't mind getting in a bit later - there was no one in front of us at the lineups at the port and we feel we weren't rushed.
Plus the girls liked the bus ride with the videos and we liked not having to worry about out luggage. It was picked up early that morning and we got it when we got to the ship.
We might have missed all the characters and the fun at the port when we got there, but it was also very nice not to be in a line and just start the relaxing right from the moment we wake up.

I will decide on the MYW return trip on Thursday before the cruise - depending on how we are feeling!
As for the boxes - I want to send them to the cruise - not the resort - can anyone point me to the rules and regs for limitations on the boxes? Thanks.
Got it - will respond to you soon! I too am ready to get started with it! Looking forward to our team!

Deb, I wouldn't pack my meds in the luggage to be checked. If it lost or delayed it could cause real problems for you.
We always carry on our meds. :thumbsup2
Thanks again Cork.....I'm a believer, now how do I convince DH?

That's a great story Kathe, lesson learned. Hard to believe that her luggage could vanish into thin air on a direct flight, but she is living proof that it happened. Thanks for sharing.....I will definitely be carrying on mine and John's meds.
Deb,
I have also had a checked bag come up missing on a direct flight from Ontario, CA to Reno. That is not an easy feat but the airlines are up to it. Be sure to put your Med's in your carry on. I do a lot of flying and have never had any problems with the meds but have lost, had them take, cork screws, small screw drivers, (pocket type) and a small 2" crescent wrench that was on my key chain. Have also had them break the blade, nail file and scissors off of a money clip.:sad2: Just depends on how much of a pain they want to be and if they are on a power trip that day. They do provide the QT. size bags for liquids and paper booties for your feet.

Medications, baby formula and food, breast milk, and juice are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint.
Thank you Cork....wow you are really being very helpful today!

Now I know why I haven't flown since 911.....this is really starting to sound like a nightmare. I'm not the criminal, don't punish me. Make your rules within reason and I'll follow them but it sounds exactly like what you have said.

I think anything can happen, nonstop or not, and I would want my necessary medication with me.

Thanks Lisa, so nice of you to do that and post the link. Now I have to look up the corkscrew that I carry in my make up bag.....I'm always prepared.....can you tell that I like drinking wine and champagne when I'm out travelling.
WE too have a corkscrew, but it is in the outside pocket of our checked luggage with our SkipBo cards....two decks just in case.

Does it matter if you're flying nonstop vs. changing planes? I'm not sure what a qt. size bag looks like and whether all my meds and John's meds are going to fit in just one bag. Probably not......I can just see me carrying on 5 bags of medicines.
Just get the quart size ziplock baggies at the grocery. If you need 2 or 3 that is ok. Just put them in your carryon. They usually don't take them out, they just scan them, but if they do want to examine them they (or you) are not required to dig around through the carryon.

Thanks! I will now find some smaller boxes to mail in and keep them under the 20 pound limit. Not a problem for me - every little thing I can send ahead the better off I am!

Evening all,
Just got caught up...whew...
Air Canada really fouled us up last spring. I had an early morning direct flight to Orlando from Ottawa - arriving at 10:30...and a flight back at 8 pm ...ahhhhh
they changed the early morming one to a late afternoon one , and the one back left Orlando at 7:30 am....so I lost almost 19 hours at WDW..
This time I thought i would be smart and booked Westjet, direct flight to Orlando leaving at 11:30 am ...giving us loads of time to wake up at a decent hour and drive to the airport
You guessed it...my direct flight now connects through Toronto ( I hate that airport) and leaves Ottawa at 7 am....
They always ask you to call them when they make a major change like that, and when I did the young lady at the other end.....just could not grasp the fact I did not want to go through Toronto (she's in Calgary).....it turns out Westjet cancelled all their direct flights from Ottawa and routed them all through Toronto....
I just like clearing US customs in Ottawa and knowing that when i get off the plane...I'll be in MCO
Sorry...just had to vent...
Then of course i just found out my flight back is now 1/2 an hour earlier.....which would not have been soooo bad except for the fact i built in an extra hour in Toronto to clear customs before our connecting flight home....

All of this talk about people staying before the cruise and people staying after the cruise is really bumming me out (yes, that's what I said, I graduated high school in the very early 1970's)
I wish I could either get some time before the cruise or even better, a few days afterwards to go to DL. I could not swing that with work, I haven't asked, but I don't think I could swing it. People are shocked that I'm going to be gone from work for 2 weeks.

We are only getting the few days before - but not after. We had hoped for after at DL but not going to happen - we are on a 1:00 pm flight on the 25th back to Nashville. We had hoped to visit Califorinia since we have not been before where we could visit and enjoy DL and California. Think of it this way - it gives you a reason to make another trip! That is how I am looking at it.

Loved reading about Mrs. Bennett. A Chumby is my DB's future. DD loved it as well and her birthday is in July. :thumbsup2

Another child of the '70s!
I think we should all bring our high school year books and have a time warp party.

We will be staying at Port Orleans from the 7th to the 10th. We will be going to Blizzard Beach on the 8th. We did both water parks two years ago, but son wanted to go back to BB. We are going to AK on the 9th.
