I Just got Gimp

OKAY, well i have NO idea of how to use gimp lol. Can somebody give me some free help on this? All im really going to use gimp for is editing pictures. And i dont mean, " you should check out the help section in gimp " I need help from people who have used gimp before :)

Heres How :

Go to the paintbrush tool. ( third row from the bottom, last icon in row. )
Then go down a bit to where it says Mode. Select the option Color which should be at the bottom of the list of choices. Then select the brush you wanna use. and color. then just paint over the picture.

HELP! How do you change the color in gimp lol. It says use Ctrl to change colors
but it doesn't do anything!

EDIT: Nevermind, I can be so stupid sometimes. XD

I got GIMP around the beginning of December, and I had no idea who to use it.
Just play around with it, you'll get the hang of it. Other than that, I'm not sure what to say.
