thinking about the Canon 40D

I'm thinking about selling my Canon Rebel XT and getting one of the 40D's. what I'm wondering is, will my lenses still work and what about my shutter release switches?
Since they are both Canon DSLR cameras, shouldn't they work? :confused3
my lenses are the Canons 50mm, & 100mm macro, Sigma 18-200 OS and the Tokina 10-17 mm fisheye. thanks for any info. :) Linda

Lenses should all work, remote shutter release probably wont.

I have both the wired and the wireless shutter release switches. I mainly use the wired one and am hoping the inputs are the same on the 40D.
The main thing is my lenses. as long as they will work, all will be okay. :)

I do not think the inputs would be the same, I own the 20D and when shopping for remotes I noticed products for the rebel line and "different" products for the xxD line of cameras.

Anewman is correct...the shutter release cable wont work with the 40D, but you can find a cheap off brand cable that will. There are several online that are much cheaper than there Canon cable and work just as well.

Thanks again. nope, the shutter release switches won't work. no big deal, I'll just add them in when I sell my Rebel. just so glad my lenses will work with the 40D. :banana:

Yes they will work....but....because of the sensor size of the 40 their angle of view will be off.
There is an approximate 1.6 magnification factor. Another words, I have a 24-70 slr lens. When I stick that on my 40D its more like 38-112 roughly.
If I want a wide angle lens that will give me close to the same perspective I will have to go to the 17-55mm which I am looking at.

On another note make sure you give it a good work out taking pics.
I had two kits with two diff problems. First kit got exchanged because the lens stopped communicating with the camera and the second kit went to Canon for focusing issues.

Please dont let my experience deter you from a great camera that has great features. Over on other boards many people have had great experiences with theirs.
I just wanted to give a heads up so that you fully try the camera out if you get it.

Unless I'm mistaken, the xxD and D-Rebel series all have the same sensor size, which means they all have the 1.6x multiplication factor. There should be no difference in your effective "focal lengths" with either camera. If I'm wrong on this (which is certainly possible), I'm sure someone will correct me!

You are correct, the OP will not see a difference going from her current camera to the 40d. She has already been dealing with the 1.6x crop factor, so the fishy-ness of her fish eye lens will be exactly the same as it is currently with her Rebel xt.

I am about thisclose to ordering the 40D.
I wonder if there is a chance the price will drop just a bit after the release of the new XSI? probably not since it is a higher up camera, but if there is a chance it does, I would wait.
