Rumor has it that if you ask to swap your dessert for an appetizer on the DDP, some restaurants will accomodate your request. Has anyone found this to be true this year ? Thanks to all who respond !!!

Looking forward to the answer to this question. It would mean the difference in whether we do the DDP again or not, as we always like to get appetizers, and rarely like to get desserts.

I'm interested in knowing the answer to this one, too. I'd much rather have an app. than dessert. DH isn't really into sweets, either.

another who wants to know :)

I read on another board a while back that this would probably not be allowed as the point was to increase turn around in the rest. and if one persno gets an app and one a desert it does not achieve the goal... Now that the yr has actually started I wonder what is happening...
or what if both are willing to swap an app for desert??

I believe this belongs on the DDP board. You might want to check there to see if this topic has already been covered.

moved to the DDP board :)

It would be nice to have a choice, wouldn't it?

I wish that's how it worked... anxious to see if anyone had any success with it :)

We never once ordered dessert last year on the DDP-but we love to start our meal with a salad.... :goodvibes

That would be the deal breaker for us. Right now we don't know what to do seeing we don't eat desserts. (But of course we always seem to find our way to those micky ice cream bars). But they don't count. lol

We had posts at the beginning of the year that said substituting an appetizer for a dessert on the basic DDP was not permitted under any circumstances. One of these posts came from someone who works as a server at a WDW restaurant.

All you can do is ask at the restaurant you are attending.

I don't understand how this would be a deal breaker, if it's not written and some people said they could, but while you were there you were told no wouldn't you be dissapointed?

I agree it would be nice to have a choice, I wouldn't buy the plan, based on the chance it might happen. Unfortunately we love desserts but sometimes would like to have a salad and share a dessert. Pretty sad when sometimes the salad is the only vegtable we have in the meal.....lol.

I'm sorry that you misunderstood.:) We are not buying the ddp, because of the fact that they took the app out, and for us dessert will not work. But if they we're to give you a choice we might reconsider the ddp:goodvibes

I have not seen any reports of this being successful. In fact I saw two posts from different members who were at Disney a week ago. They said that they are diabetic and inquired about making a trade. The CM's did not allow it and they were offered fruit for dessert.

I haven't seen any reports of it working either and this far into the year, I'm sure it would have been posted if people were able to do it.

OMG! isn't fruit an exteremly high source of natural sugars? :confused3
Most diabetics I know can only have a small amount (like 1/2 a banana) and my kids doc say very little fruit juice, even 100% natural due to the sugars... Oh I digress..

I asked to have the cheese soup instead of a dessert at LeC. The server explained that it can't be done due to the way they have to enter the items into the computer. However, she was very sweet and brought our table of 3 the soup at no charge. :goodvibes

Bummer. I had hoped that there might be some chance of switching for an appetizer. I have multiple food allergies and when we're at WDW they are very good about accommodating them for the most part, but dessert is where things get sketchy. Frequently the only thing I could have for dessert was a cup of Tofutti. I'm glad I have the option but it stinks to watch everyone else having great desserts every night and here I am stuck with my little cup of Tofutti yet again

We would have gone DDP if the plan allowed for an appetizer instead of dessert. We are typically not dessert eaters, but love salads &/or appetizers before a meal. DBF said they probably only allow dessert because dessert ingredients are typically cheaper than most appetizers.

I'll be happy to take your dessert if you don't want it. My motto - life is short, eat dessert first!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

dessert is a treat for us so I'm happy to have it.
