New York in Dec - Book now or wait ??

We want to go for 4 nights on Dec 5th and don't know whether we ought to book now or hang on for better prices.
Are the prices likely to go up or down and how much chance would we have getting a decent late deal as I beleive NY is popular in the Festive period ?

NY in December can get very expensive, I'd have thought the price would only go up.

If the price is good then I would book it now. NY is a very popular destination and the prices do tend to go up towards the last 3 months of the year.

I know you are going to NY but you should give some consideration to Chicago!! It also is very festive and all lit up for the holidays. I have lived here my whole life so I suppose I am a little biased.
