What brand of air mattresses do you tenters use? I tried out the Coleman queen "high rise" (or whatever you call it) but DH and I just both rolled to the middle. Didn't seem like it would be comfortable so I took it back. I want something durable that won't deflate on us during the night.

We own this one and really like it.

It's easy to adjust the firmness by letting some air out. We've had that "rolling to the middle" situation you describe, and it seems to happen more if there's not enough air in the mattress. We've slept on it a bunch of nights, and it has held the air just fine.

If your petite folks, any well filled matress should be good enough for a week...but if'n youre bigger n'better in da belly.....keep in mind that ya get what ya pay for. The Simmons that Litebrite mentioned is one of the better low cost matresses. It works pretty well for me, although I DO usually have to do a partial refill mid-way through the night.

I prefer cots, myself. It gets you off the ground, doesn't deflate, no rolling. I take some camping mats too, to make it more cushy.

I've only used single air mattresses, so can't comment on the bigger ones.

We don't tent camp but we do use an air mattress in our tt whenever my dd and her dh travels with us. I don't know the name of it but we bought one at Sams Club for about 80.00, it's a high rise queen and I love it, I slept on it at WDW last year the whole 10 days we were there and didn't have to inflate it again once and I'm a plus size women :rolleyes1
It was so comfortable, it was better than the bed, I wish I knew the name of it because it was worth every penny.

My MIL has an Aero that she got on a special (Maybe it was Sam's?) for about the same price. She loves that thing!

My husband doesn't like to tent camp, but he would tolerate it if we used an aerobed, the only air mattresses we've used that don't deflate during the night or get holes after a season. Then my husband got uncomfortable getting up from a low bed so I bought a double aerobed premier comfort zone raised bed and its been great. It was just over $200 w/ a 20% off coupon at Linen's & Things, and it is heavy to carry, but it was well worth it becuase I still get to go camping :)

Ozark Trail Twins XL. We had tried a Queen once but everytime DH would flop over (he never rolls over), I would flop off. After one night of getting constantly bounced off, we purchased the XL Twin size by Ozark Trail at Wal-mart. It's a good height, 19.5". It stayed inflated the whole 9 days we were at the Fort. Thanks everyone! I'm looking at both a queen for DH and me as well as twins for the DD's... These suggestions help a lot!

More info on air mattresses...built-in air pump, ac pump, dc pump, foot pump, or windbag DH or DW? Also, anyone tried the Coleman brand or Target's Greatland brand? Similar to Walmart's or better?

I'm interested in that, too! Also, I just saw one at Sam's that has 2 twins that can be attached to make a king. Anyone try that one or one like it? (It's not a "high rise", btw.)

I set my tents up in my basement to get a look/see as to how much room for mattresses & stuff and now I've got another question. If you folks use the double highs, does it seem to take up more room? Since it's higher, when the tent walls are slanted, I would think you'd need to move the mattress farther away from the sides. Just trying to figure this all out...probably overanalyzing...but that's just me.

We have a queen sized self-inflating air mattress that we purchased when we were living in Australia. We love it! We actually have used it more at our home when we have visitors than we have camping ;)

I love that we don't have to blow it up (or pump it up). It's very comfy to sleep on. The only thing I don't like is that it takes up a lot of space to transport and store.
