It has been my opinion for a LONG time that WestJet substancially overcharges for their packages. DH actually played around with the latest promo for a colleage at his office yesterday - and by booking the package (MYW promo with free hopper/water parks and dining with Poly stay) and then airfare with WestJet - they saved $566 over booing the so-called adults fly free offer.
I have no idea what WestJet is doing, but I think the problem lies in how they do the ticket pricing. Basically, they give you a pacakge price... and then you have to add on the tickets (which are overpriced, from what I can see). So, all of a sudden their could be a decent price package skyrockets.
Hope this makes sense. Basically, I'm not a fan of WestJet vacations... they are just plain overpriced.

DH wanted me to point something out as an example...
All Star Music
April 2-8th
Ottawa to WDW
2 Adults, 1 Child Aged 2
WestJet Vacations offer from $581.91 CAD incl tax per person
Total $1,745.72+
Now, once they give you the base price... you have to decide what you want to add. Since we normally book with a dining plan, here goes the two options WestJet Vacations offers:
Standard Room 2 Double Beds with Dining Plan
ADD $530.89
Package price includes accommodation & dining plan and must be purchased along with one of the following Walt Disney World Magic Your Way tickets - Base, Parkhopper or Water Park Fun & More .
Tickets must be selected separately before completing your booking.
However if you want to book the "FREE Hopper/Water Parks upgrade", then suddenly the price is jacked up $100.00. Say what?! Thought the upgrade was supposed to be "FREE".
Special Offer Standard Room 2 Double Beds with Dining Plan
ADD $638.06
Package price includes accommodation & dining plan and must be purchased with the following Special Offer FREE upgrade to the Park Hopper Option and Water Park Fun & More Option
Tickets must be selected separately before completing your booking.
Now, once you decide which option you want to take don't forget this pricing above does NOT include the tickets. You have to add that before you can check out! So, suddenly a WestJet vacation package that is supposed to offer a free adult airfare offers nothing of the sort...
Total price for 2 adults, and 1 (2 year old) child following the special offer and taking advantage of the dining plan:
Package Subtotal $2,469.56
Taxes and Fees $381.43
Total Price $2,850.99 CDN
Booking same package with Disney Travel and paying for 2 adult airfares and one child airfare (which is really 1 adult!) on WestJet for same dates. $2554 CDN. So, this really makes me wonder what WestJet is doing with their package prices.

Help me understand.........
Disney website....current promotion....free hopper & water parks
Apr 18-25
8 day base ticket (with hopper & water parks)
All Star Music, standard room
$1751 (approx) + airfare from Halifax (air canada & westjet) approx $2700-$3000 = $4751
Westjet Vacation
Apr 18-25
7 day base ticket (with hopper & water parks)
All Star Music, standard room
round trip non stop flight
$2773
Am I missing anything here?
I could probably get lower airfare by driving to Portland Maine, (14 hours round trip) but would have to fork out for hotel for 2 nights, fuel and food + 2 days additional on each end of the trip.
I'm not trying to convince anyone this looks like a good deal, just want to make sure I'm looking at all the info correctly before making a decision

I found that too when I was booking our WDW vacation. The westjet vacation package was much more expensive!
We ended up actually still booking westjet flights, but we created a custom package through expedia.ca and saved over $1000 for the same thing that westjet was advertising in their package AND we were still flying with westjet! So strange!

Whether this is a good deal will really depend on where you are. From Ontario, probably not due to the airfare. If you have worked out what the same package would be if you went through another travel agency (this is what this is really) and it is cheaper go for it.

I actually found it cheaper to book my flight through Westjet Vacations and get a car with my vacation then booking only the flight through Westjet. I am not going until August but it was less that $2000 for 4 people flight and car rental from NL. I thought this was a great deal, the last time I went 2006 I paid over $2400 just for airline tickets.

It also says on the Westjet Vacations website to call 1 877 737 7001 to book today. Maybe in order to get that deal you need to deal with them directly. I have never flown Westjet so I will see in August. Where I live I am limited to Westjet or Air Canada.

I'll do some more checking......I did check with flight buddy and got airfare for approx $1800 return for 4....using AC & westjet.
So with airfare of $1800 and disney website promotion of approx another $1800, that a total of $3600.
Comparing that to Westjet package of $2773.......it still looks like a deal....flying out of Halifax

DH actually called WestJet Vacations last night. It looks like their target audience for this promo is regions of Canada who do not normally have access to direct or discounted airfares to MCO.
So, I'm guessing for Halifax it looks like you've got yourself a deal. Those of us in Ontario, it's MUCH better to book everything spearately.

I'm trying to convince myself of that too.
Given the chance to go April-May or Aug-Sept, my wife wants to go in April...too hot for her in August....although August may have free dining offered.
We called this morning and the packages are going quick..........we were quoted April 25 - May 2 from halifax for $3248.89 (airfare, hotel and air tax, 7 night Pop century and 7 day MYW with Hopper and water parks).
I've tried several separate bookings for air and room and don't even come close to that total......I hate being under the gun to make a quick decision, but april-may is looking not bad as the kids are off for 3 days during that period and would only miss 3 days of school
I have been wondering this as well...we booked a westjet vacations pkg for 3 families out of calgary in april. The pkg price seemed pretty good, staying at Pop for 7 nights about 2800 per family with taxes in (air and hotel). BUT THEN I hear about these codes and see seatsales, MYW ticket sales and it's stressing me out! So does it sound like we got a good deal, should I just never look now at any other deals?? Just buy my MYW tickets and forget about it?? For you experts out there is it always better to book seperately and through Disney? I phoned disney and they said something is coming in the mail for me but could not say what it was!!! I don't know if I should be happy or not about that!!:confused3 I've checked into cancelling and it's $75 pp. Now I hear about the free add on of water and hopper???!!! We had not bought our MYW tickets yet so I'm wondering if we are able to purchase them at this deal?
FYI I did find westjet to be alot more for the dining plan!! It is $55 (could be 50??) per adult to add onto your package kids are $15. It was seeming that at least the DDP part was fairly consistant as far as price went, I guess not!
THoughts??

Newfie,
You must have really lucked out! I am looking at flights right now from Moncton and Halifax for the last two weeks of August. Westjet, the cheaper one, is over $3300 for four of us! Absolutely outrageous! t looks like we wll be driving to Maine and flying for about $1200-$1600 instead. Another lost customer for a Canadian airline!
I guess I never should have left Mt. Pearl!!!! :goodvibes
I phoned Disney again this morning. Finally got someone willing to tell me the great deal...it was 20% off room rack rate. The same deal my sister got from email when I phoned the first time. The CM from disney couldn't understand why the first CM was so secretive??!!
We were thinking getting a non stop out of calgary was worth a few extra dollars, all the other flights seemed to have a stop...who knows?
I guess I should just stop looking...
Any one have tips on whether I should book myw tickets through westjet vacations with hopefully the WP/PH free add on, or just pay the discounted price on undercover tourist of $309.95 7 day MYW/PH/WP with tax??
Thanks for any tips, I'm feeling completely overwhelmed with this trip!!!

So I am hearing
Scenario 1: book room and passes thru Disney and flight separate is cheaper than
Scenario 2: book all package thru westjet.
Interesting. I am trying to weight out what to do here.
I like the ease of all in one booking. We did try to price out our trip using the CAA $1600 for a family of 4 plus airline tickets via whatever was available and this was about $2000 more than the package deal we got from Nolitours which was via westjet.
Anything to save money would be great - I just keep reading all these posts and still do't know what to do!

Book through Westjet, our package for 10 days at Movies (with the usual stuff included) came to $4400.00 with insurance for 4. Case closed, will always fly Westjet, TONS better than AC or CA whatever it is called now.
Also, we went to CAA because we are members and thinking that we would get a great deal?? Nada, zip it was over 5000. to fly outta Buffalo!!! and weird hours for departure and return too. Nope, we fly from TO straight to DW (and at a decent time, too) and, well, what more is there to say?? The price is nothing compared to the look on their faces. In years to come, you won't remember about the money, but you will remember their faces.:rotfl: :cool1: :rotfl2:

Westjet vacation package:
depart Halifax non-stop return airfare
Arrive: Apr 25
Depart: May 2
Family of 4 (2 adults, 2 juniors ages 13 and 12)
7 nights Pop Century
7 days MYW with free Hopper & Water Parks
$3225 including all taxes
I believe that to be a good deal...........Mousesavers could only get me $1800 (room & tickets)
Flying JetBlue out of Portland Maine for $1300, the total would be $3100 + extra 2 days travel, 2 nights hotel, food and gas it's not such a good deal.
Air Canada wants almost $2500 for airfare......total = $4300
I'm sure in the weeks to come a great deal will present itself and we'll be kicking ourselves for not waiting, but that's what can happen anytime....now we know we're going and can get doen to planning instead of worrying

August 18-28 - 2 adults, 2 kids
Our plan
NWA from Winnipeg to Orlando - 1630 for the 4 of us
Pop - 922.00 for the 10 nights
total = $2552.00
Westjet package - air and hotel - same dates - even with "parents fly free"
total= $3245.64
Total savings doing it our way
$693.64:cheer2:
And with NWA I don't have to fly through TO - which we HATE! The last time we went through Pearson - we missed our connection b/c of the Customs line!
I love being able to clear customs in good old Winnipeg!

Park tickets to add to your package are the same price as the MYW tickets through WDW - they don't save your any money - nor do they cost you more, kwim? Park tickets were NOT included in the westjet price of 3245.00.
We have a few options for tickets.
We have enough airmiles to get 7 day bases for all of us - and then we'll upgrade to extra days when we get there.
If free dining comes out for our dates - and if based on last years dates we'll only get it for half the stay - we may upgrade to a package to get the free dining - we'll have to work it out cost wise.
If there is a good AP rate for the room one of us will upgrade to an AP from the airmiles ticket.
We'll just have to wait it out :)

After seeing this thread, I checked out Westjst Vacation package for my dates Aug 16-23.
I have booked my Westjet flight myself, with Disney World for 7 day park tickets with Park Hopper, dining, Pop Century for 3 adults for $4,076. With Westjet Vacation it would be $5,001 with only 5 day tickets. A savings of over $900 plus more park tickets.

I booked the west jet package from Halifax for 7 people (2 children under 10)
- flight, POP for 7 nights, park hoppers + - it averaged out to $742 pp taxes in. I thought this was a good deal, in fact, since I have already booked a Land and Sea Vacation for August I had no plans for another trip but the could not pass up the deal :) By the way the trip is in April.
Currently I am getting quotes for my August Flights which are more expensive the the entire April package !!!

Be sure to post any deals you find for August:thumbsup2 We are going August 16-30, and the airfare from Halifax or Moncton is abnormally high. It is at least half the price if we drive to Bango or Portland. Maybe Westjet or Air Canada(ugh) will put on a seat sale soon. Otherwise, we'll be driving to Maine.

I called last week for a quote from Toronto. For two adults and two kids (6 and 11), I was quoted around $2600. That included 7 nights at POP, airfare, 7 days of tickets (waterpark and more) and all taxes.
Seems like a good deal to me.
