I am also going 12/9-12/14, but, um, I think you knew that Mickman since you booked my trip and will be traveling with me!!! :teeth:
(you are wonderful by the way :love2: )
I am soooo excited for this trip and will be doing this :yay: from now until December! Not only does this sound like an amazing opportunity, but I would assume the others on the trip will be huge Disney fans as well (why would you take this trip otherwise?!).
In addition to all the great stuff on the itinerary, it will be great to see Haunted Mansion NBC and Small World Holiday again! Just when you think Disney parks can't be any more magical, they decorate for the holidays!!
I know there was at least one other person on the boards who said they were going this same time frame; Disneygrl36. And hopefully more Disers will soon be joining us!!!
Looking forward to hearing the first trip reports in April!

Yes, I'm booked for the 12/9 Backstage Magic.
Adults-only + holiday stuff = couldn't pass it up. :)
Since one of our "perks" is our own private Turtle Talk, I figured it would be a good opportunity to see if turtles can blush. :stir:

And like boo72, I wanted to see Haunted Mansion Holiday and It's a Small World Holiday, since I haven't done so.

Hi ya'll. My DH & I will be on this trip as well.
I just couldn't resist getting to tour Disney Studios & getting to see Walt's apartment. It sounds like a Disney lovers dream come true.
And I too thought an adult's only trip would be best for us....a couple with no kids.
I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're already going on Southwest Splendors in September (adults only), so we're not going on for our regular pre-Christmas trip to WDW. So I thought, "Let's go to DL for a long weekend. Christmas decorations, Haunted Mansion, Toy Story Mania will be open..."
Then I thought, "Wait, there's this great, dare I say magic AbD tour." And lo, there's an ADULTS ONLY one in December. It is fate.
But my partner then says (with a rather definite tone about him), "One tour is enough."
But I figure we're going to go to Disneyland anyway... We've stayed at the Renaissance at Hollywood & Highland before, and it's a great hotel, great location, and really cool activities.
So, everyone, send some good vibrations out Redmond (Washington) way and perhaps he'll have a change of heart. :worship:
Or I'll just "surprise" him! Wouldn't this make a great Christmas gift? :santa:

Yes, I say surprise him. Who can say "no" to a magical AbD during Christmas-time, especially when it's a gift?? btw, we went on Southwest Splendors last year & you will definitely have a GREAT time!

I am reading along with the first group of Backstage Magicer's & getting more & more excited for our trip.
She is (I hope) referring to my almost complete review of my Backstage Magic experience. It's at MaxTAW.blogspot.com (http://MaxTAW.blogspot.com) for those of you not reading the 4/22 thread.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Bumping us up to see if anyone new is joining us.
Not yet, I guess. ;)
I bit the bullet and forked over some money for my airline ticket. I'm scared that the price is going nowhere other than up. If the price does go down, I'll see if I can get the difference as a credit voucher on a future flight.

Lori,
We did the same thing......I was watching the prices & one day it jumped a hundred bucks & I panicked. Waited a week & it went back down & I pounced on it. I have our pre & post trip reservations made. Still have a figure out a rental car for the first few days. We are flying in to San Diego & staying Sat-Tues & driving up to Hollywood from there to meet the group.
I can't wait. I am driving my DH crazy doing research of all the things I want to do in our free time & in San Diego.

Here!
I paid off my portion of the trip a few days ago. I still have to call ABD and give them my flight info. (I booked first class BOS-LAX roundtrip with Delta Skymiles. Woohoo!)
I'm flying in the night before and am planning to stay at an LAX hotel so that the next afternoon I can just take the shuttle back to the airport to meet up with the ABD greeters.
It's too bad we don't have any more DIS'ers that are on our trip, but perhaps we'll have some cool people touring with us anyway. (keeping my fingers crossed for at least one single guy... or 2... or 3.... ;) )

This will be a great trip. I just got back and had an awesome time. I flew in early and did the WB Studio 5-1/2 hour tour the previous day and it was well worth the time spent.
Afterwards I stayed at GC for 5 extra days and that was awesome also. Spent time with friends and drove all over So. CA. Went to 2 tapings of Price is Right and that is an experience in itself.
We went behind the scenes of Jimmy Kimmel and several people in the group saw the taping for that evening.
The Kodak Theatre and Henson Studios were a very nice part of the tour.
Paramount Studios (owned by Disney) was a great part of the tour also. We went on several sets there.
Disney Archives just took our breath away. We met with Dave Smith and his stories were great. So much history at the Archives. He presented everyone with his book "A to Z", which he signed personally for everyone.
We were kept busy from am until pm each day.
Small World and HM were still closed for remodeling so we didn't get to see either of them and Crush the Turtle was great. We did go behind the scenes of the Fireworks, Soarin' and Indiana Jones. Those 3 behind the scenes were amazing.
Walt's Apartment was marvelous. We spent quite a bit of time there. Everyone was given quite a nice surprise as we were leaving.
It is wonderful to go inside the park before it opens and take pics and not have heads in the bottom of the frame.
We went to a class to learn how to draw Mckey.
We had VIP seatings for the parade and fireworks.
The farewell dinner was sad.......... One of he Disney Animators drew each guest their special character
There were no children on this trip. But then again it was a special DVC tour with extras added, as special for this trip.
Does anyone know how many people are signed up for the 12/9 tour?
I am trying to convince my hubby, he is waivering. I have to see who can take my kids for the week. I will let everyone knoe if I book, the air is ok and everything is falling into place!!! Wish me luck!!!:wizard:

Hopefully you will get yours today! Anyone else get theirs??
Mickey head magnet for countdown: I was at Target looking at the Christmas decorations and they have a magnetic "Christmas countdown" you can put on a frig ($6.99). It comes with a little silver Mickey head magnet (head is open so you can see the countdown number underneath). It will be a while before the 30 day ABD countdown we got in our package starts, but this Mickey head magnet will be perfect for it!! I have a feeling the magnet will forever be on the frig, no Christmas storage for this Mickey!!
I brought the itinerary book we got with me to work today and I have been consumed with reading it even though I have read several trip reports and know what we will be doing! :rotfl:
This is going to be a great trip!!

I am sad we won't get to see the electrical parade but everything I can find looks like they aren't starting it until Dec 19th. But I am so excited about everything else that I think I can get over it.:lmao:

I got my ABD box today! Yippee!!!
I must admit, though, that while the messenger bag looks quite nice (the embroidered logo is great!), it's just too big and heavy to be something I'd actually travel with. I'm only 4'10" and it's just too much bag!
Here's my info:
Name: Amy
Age: 36
Hometown: RI. The state's small enough that I don't need to narrow it down any further. ;)
What I do: health data analytics for a health insurer
First Disney trip: December 1975

Next Disney trip after this ABD: 1/24/09 -- Discovery Down Under! Woohoo!
Favorite Disney character: it used to be Tinker Bell before she got merchandised to death. I'm currently feeling a bit Megarish.

I want to go on the 7 day St. Marteen. It docks on Halloween though, I wonder if they will do anything special the day before? I was originally thinking end of August since it was cheaper because of the more intense hurricane season and it is Labor Day weekend (kids go back to school). If we get back on Halloween, then maybe I could score the Halloween party tickets at MK.

That means they will pick us up at LAX & take us to the hotel as well on Monday night so that will be nice. And we can still use Tues am to do some sight seeing before our Adventure starts. Hey Melanie - I have noticed that as well. I think we are going to do it since we have an extra day. We are not spending the night on Sunday, we are heading off to a friends house (which is cheaper). I hope that we get a couple rides in as well.
Good that will be fun then because we will already know someone on the tour.
I think we are at 36 days today...............:cool1:  :cool1:  :cool1:

Melanie, (and Andrea), did you take Wilton cake classes? I took all three levels last year and it was so much fun! It's amazing to see how the cakes progress -- make sure you take pictures of all your cakes, you will love being able to look back at them!!

Honestly picking one thing will be next to impossible! I really enjoyed the entire trip and looked at each day as building blocks. Each day built on the one before. However, the obvious highlights include Imagineering, the Jim Henson Studios and Walt's apartment.
I probably won't do a trip report just because I have no time! I'm busy at my full time job and my part time jobs leave little time. However like I said in my previous post you guys will have an amazing time, just go with the flow and soak it all in. Half the fun was the surprises they threw at us that we didn't know about.

Check out http://www.weather.com/. Type in Anaheim, CA and then click on the 10-day forecast. I usually use this when we head South to know what clothes to have. When we go the week after the Thanksgiving, the days are usually comfortable. Maybe sweatshirt weather. We have even worn shorts in the past. At night, it cools down. I have gloves and a scarf (mickey of course) that helps. On the other hand, I do tend to have both warm and cold weather shirts along with some shorts just in case.
Getting closer to your fun-fun-fun!!!! :yay:

The excitement is building! I'm so excited for the trip!!! Life has been busy lately and it has kept me, for the most part, from becoming completely fixated on the trip.
I've got some clothes thoughts floating around in my head, but I'm not making any decisions until we are much closer to the 9th. I live in MN and I have also been to WDW many times in December, (when we were there in 2004 was it got down in the 30's at night!), so I know to work the layers. Upper 40's at night isn't bad at all. I just hope for little to no rain . . . .

Maybe some ice cream at the Soda Fountain and a movie at the El Capitan instead of Jimmy Kimmel. Thats what I would like to do next time. We wanted to go to the Soda fountain after the Jimmy Kimmel show and it closes early.

That would be a good plan. Bolt is showing & I would really like some ice cream from the soda fountain.
When we get back from the tour that day, we plan on doing the Graumanns tour. I would then like to check out the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel at the recommendation of a fellow disboarder. It's only like a block away & Marilyn Monroe lived there. We might have a bite to eat there at the burger restaurant 25 degress as she suggested or walk back over to Hollywood & Highlands to eat. Guess, we will play it by ear but I am sure no matter what we do it will be fun.

I'll admit that I was always more of a Jason Priestley fan than a Brian Austin Green fan. However, going to see Jimmy Kimmel Live will be worth it to me just to see... Jimmy Kimmel live. Shhhhhhh.. don't tell him, but I've had a bit of a crush on him ever since Win Ben Stein's Money. :lovestruc

Meh. I'd rather see Brian Austin Green than Tom Cruise. I want to go to the Jimmy Kimmel taping because of the fact that I've never been to a taping of any show since....I was 5 years old at the Bozo the Clown show. I'd really like to see a show in production, especially after touring it that day.
And hey, if you'd rather have ice cream instead of seeing the show, I also won't have to fight you for a ticket.

Just arriving home from Disneyland tonight. You are in for quite the treat on Main Street!
The weather was cool during the day and cooler at night. Today (Friday) was the first day of it actually being warm. When we flew in, earlier in the week, there was fog in our State. Same for flying home tonight in Northern CA. I wore capris, short-sleeved shirts and light hooded sweatshirts during the day. I wore jeans, cotton long-sleeved shirts, a heavier jacket and scarf on at night. (If you forget one, Disneyland has a BUNCH of scarfs out now. Soft chenille and wool-types.) I usually wear gloves there at night, but never took them out this time. The News Reports were saying 70's this week around Anaheim. But, we were told that too and it ended up being in the 60's during the day all week.
Take time to watch Billy Hill and the Hillbillies in Frontierland. They have two different leads and both are not disappointing!
It is also great to see the Sleeping Beauty walk-through in the castle again. Yeh Tony Baxter! (I saw him in the park today!)
I hope Diana is one of your Tour Guides. She is WONDERFUL!!!!
Have the most magical time all of you!!! Take everything in sllooowwwly. :)

Welcome back Melanie!
How was the tour you took?
Andrea-the tour was really pretty good. I already knew alot of the info presented, but it was nice to slow down & take a closer look at the park & the details. Going into club 33 was really cool & hearing that the elevator was something Walt saw in Paris & tried to buy but they wouldn't sell it to him so he sent Imagineers over to sketch it from every angle possible so they could come back & recreate it at Disneyland. I asked the hostess about the list to join & she said it is so full that it is now closed & she said the average wait time to get into the Club once you get on the list is 10 years.

Welcome back everyone! I had a great time meeting you guys. I miss the Clearance Sweatshirt Jacket Brigade already. ;)
Stacy, I told Diana you said hi, and Max, Diana remembered you. I told her I managed to use the "Max Ackerman Technique" because my FP was given back to me on a couple of occasions.
Of course, after we rode Tower of Terror with the group and split up a bit, I rode the Monsters Inc ride with Melanie and Eric (her DH). And what happened at the exit? The Dream Squad awarded us Dream FastPasses.
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
I didn't use it, of course. In fact, I didn't use ANY of the FastPasses given to us that day at all. I did a lot of single rider on Toy Story Mania, and I really didn't feel like doing much of anything but walk around. I had a relaxing solo lunch at Carnation Cafe and found Improvgal in the standby line for the candy canes with Sue and Brian.
It was a great trip, and I would definitely do another Adventures by Disney trip someday.

DIANA!!!!!!! I know that one, and I'm glad she's doing this tour. When I had her, she wasn't actually going to do them. I'm glad someone changed their mind, she's great. As was my other guide, Michael.
See, now you have me remenicing...
I remember when Quinn and Robyn were ABD shadows and the Max Ackerman technique was in its infancy.
See, look what you've done, now I need to go back to Disneyland and see all of them.

We didn't use our dream fast passes either Lori........mine is still all pristine for my SCRAPBOOK!!!!!!!!!
I went back to get my hoodie on Monday & they were all gone. :sad2: That picture of you guys all in your matching hoodies was too cute.
I believe the Disney ambassador that we met was named Liz & she did a great job of welcoming us, but I was hoping to meet Quinn as well.
Diana was the BEST & I about let my mouth hang wide open when we found out it was Kristin's first adventure.......she did a GREAT job.
Got my on-line survey today & gave it EXCELLENT's almost exclusively.
Max, I mentioned you to Diana when we were talking about the blogs. She had fond memories of you guys on the dress rehearsal. Robynn popped by & said hello to us as well as we were having lunch at Cafe Orleans so we met her briefly.

Hi all! I've felt a little lost all week not having our amazing tour guides to tell us where we are going and to have you all to follow around and enjoy the magic with!! :sad1:
I joined the Clearance Sweatshirt Brigade by buying myself one on Sunday evening (couldn't resist). I also bought them for all the girls in my family for Christmas (mom, SIL, niece) :rolleyes1
Any body gotten their Photo Pass info yet? I'm chomping at the bit to get some of those restricted pics that are only on there!
Miss you guys!

Hi everyone: Did Quinn get Ambassador?? I missed it, if he is an Ambassador now. He was great and I sure hope so. I am thinking seriously about doing the Backstage tour again. My family wants to do it also.

kr.....Quinn did get ambassador. Yeah for him.
So that's what happened to all the hoodies huh Mindy.......you stinker. I have to say my only regret is that we did not take enough time to shop. I had a list of things to look for & I really didn't get any of it. So, I need a trip back to Disneyland just for shopping. I am waiting eagerly for the photopass info too. I was going to start trying to narrow things down & print out pics but I will need to see those before deciding which ones go in the album & scrapbook.
Max, I have started a trip report. Link below in my siggie. I promise to post lots of pictures.

This may be spoiling it for others, but I really want to know. Is Club 33 on every ADB tour? I think Walt's Apt is. If so, I really need to to this adventure.

No Club 33 on the ABD tour. Disneygirl did the "Walk in Walt's Footsteps" tour at Disneyland the day after our tour ended and that tour does go into the entryway of Club 33.
You do go to Walt's apt on the ABD tour. You don't just peek in either; you are in there for a while, talking about Walt's time there, looking at the furnishings and pictures and the ABD guides take a group picture. It was a very special and touching experience.
This ABD Backstage Magic tour is well worth it for Disney fans, even though you don't go into Club 33! The tour far exceeded my expecations and it was great to be around others who share the passion of Walt's legacy and the Disney tradition as a whole.
Check out Disneygirl's trip report. She is doing a great job of describing the trip and capturing how I think many of us on the trip felt.

Oh, and I just have to add that:
Melanie, I promise I didn't take all the hoodies!! :confused3 We saw them everywhere! I got most of them at the World of Disney store Downtown, where they had lots in a whole 'clearance' section. I also saw them in different stores at Disneyland and DCA so was able to find other sizes I needed.
I agree though, we needed more time built in to shop!!

Thanks for answering the question about Club 33 Mindy. Also thanks for the plug for my trip report.
I only went to look for the hoodie at the shop in Adventureland where the rest of the girls found it. I honestly did not shop much at all. We went in World of Disney but it was a quick trip through there to look for a scrapbook. I bet I could call Disneyland merchandise & they might be able to hook me up.
I wish I had taken more time on Sun or Mon to shop, but oh well.
