Howdy fellow cruisers!

I couldn't find a thread for this group yet, so I started one. If there is indeed one already created, can you please post a link here? Thanks a bunch! :thumbsup2

Under "find your cruise meet thread" it's listed as being one for 8/21, but when you click on it it's actually for 8/24, so I'm a bit confused. Actually, I'm not cruising on this one, but one of my best friends and family are. She and DH have cruised DCL on the Wonder before, but this will be the first time with kids! :lovestruc :yay: :woohoo: Her kids are GONNA LOVE IT, as you all know! Her name is Libby, but I'm not sure what screen name she chose, so please look out for her and take good care of her.....I directed her to the DIS for the great info the wonderful folks here provide. :grouphug:

Hello there!

I'm the friend that Holly spoke of, my name is Libby. My family and I will be on this cruise as well! :) This will be my kids 1st cruise, 2nd trip to WDW. This is my husbands and my 2nd cruise. Our first was when I was pregnant with my son, and we loved every second of it...well almost. The last night was REALLY rocky (bad weather) and made us all a little sea sick, but we survived and are ready to go again!! My kids are unbelievably excited!! I have a boy (6) and a girl (4) and this is all they can talk about right now! :)

Yes, we are booked on the August 21st Wonder cruise this summer.

This cruise will be the second leg of our back-to-back Wonder cruises this summer so we'll already be onboard when you guys get on.

We're on the August 17th cruise as well.

It will be me, DH and DS (13) and DD (12).

We have late dinner seating.

Great to hear there will be other DISers on this cruise. I think there is another family who will already be onboard and doing the second leg of their back-to-back cruise like we are.

The link on the main cruise meet page that lists all the thread meets for 2008 needs to be fixed.

I'll alert the DISer who created it and tell him it needs to be fixed.

Otherwise no one will ever find us.

Very true - ask away. We did a three night a year ago.

The best thing I did was print out the latest 3-night Navigators right before we cruise and look over what activities are scheduled when and where then pick out the "must do's".

I will say we didn't get as many character photographs as you get on the longer cruises. That's because we played Bingo every night and saw the shows and there wasn't that much time to get a character photo.

I am really looking forward to the new Toy Story show.

We did stay onboard in Nassau. It allowed the kids to have a lot of time in the clubs and I read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at the adult pool. We had a glorious day that day and it was just heavenly at the adult pool.

One thing I did find out was that people were taking their time getting off the ship at Castaway Cay. On the longer cruises people are getting off the ship in droves right away to get their spot at the family beach.

But on the 3-night cruise, Castaway Cay is the morning after Pirate Night and I think most people slept in after staying up late for the Pirate Party.

I've never seen the family beach so empty at Castaway Cay in the morning. I went swimming and was literally the only one in the water. The water was so clear and it was low tide and I could literally walk all the way out to the far ropes.

That was the most amazing experience I've ever had at CC (other than finding the crabs on the bike path - that was too funny).

Okay, the link on the 2008 Wonder meets page is finally correct!!!!

We had a lovely Easter. Chilly but bountiful sunshine.

Did our last day of skiing the day before Easter. So now thoughts turn to this cruise. Just booked a snorkeling excursion with Stuart Cove in the Nassau. This is a 1/2 day afternoon excursion. Wanted something a little more extensive than the DCL snorkeling excursions.

90 days before sailing date if you are a repeat cruiser. So that's sometime in May for us.

Wow - saw that post about no more jet skiing at Castaway Cay. Boy, I hope they resolve that because its something both kids want to do.

Its 75 days out for 1st time cruisers to book excursions.

Yes, DCL is incredibly addicting. If you rebook for another cruise while onboard (there is a desk where you can make your reservations) you get 10% off your next cruise and a $200 onboard credit. And you can switch around this future reservation and still keep the discounts.

Its funny about rebooking. I was the one who planned our first DCL cruise yet it was DH who suggested we rebook onboard for future cruises.

Hi Mandy,

Welcome....yes, we're a small group right now but I'm sure as we get closer to the beginning of summer that more people will book.

I also think the 4-day cruises with the two stops at Castaway Cay are drawing moe people to the 4-day cruises this summer. The 8/17 cruise is basically sold out (if you book with kids) and has been for quite some time.

I did the 3-night Wonder last summer around this time and the ship didn't "feel" very full. It was a very relaxing atmosphere.

HI again, :wave2:

Nice to meet you guys. I was kind of worried about the amount of people on board. Had visions of it being very busy. Glad to hear that the ship has a relaxed feel to it. I received my cruise vacation guide today, I'm soooo excited. We are staying at Port Orleans from 15th and planning to get a taxi to Port Canaveral from there. Any ideas who would be best to contact for transport?
Also, I don't know what type of clothing to take, is it very formal? I'm not telling my girls about the cruise, they will think we are moving on to our scond hotel until we get to the port. I believe there is a pirate night? Is anyone dressing up or will I be on my own?

Talk soon, thanks for making me feel so welcome!
Mandy.

hi Mandy,
i just got vacation guide in the mail today too! I still have to look over it, all i saw was the reminder about the final payment due on june 7.
i don't know about any taxi service in the area. does'nt the Disney Cruise line shuttle pick up from Port Orleans?? we are taking the Autotrain so we will have our own car. we are staying at Old Key West, but booked the land sepretley from the sea part of the trip.
This will be our 1st Disney cruise, so i don't know much about formal night. i do know about the pirate night, and do plan on dressing up. i don't know if i should by everything before we leave, or shop at the shop near Pirates of The Carribean ride. pirate:
ok, well i'll chat with you soon!!

Yes, DCL busses do run from certain WDW resorts. DB stayed at Port Orleans and used DCL transportation to get to the port.

But I would also price out using a car service as if you have a family of four or more it becomes cheaper to use a town car rather than pay per person on the DCL bus.

We booked with Florida Tours or whomever is sponsor of the DIS boards. I went over to the transportation board and clicked on whoever is the sponsor. You had a choice of towncar, luxury van or limo and you can see the price of each one.

In terms of clothes on the cruise....for the 3-night cruise the first night is cruise casual. That means no jeans/shorts/t-shirts. A nice pair of pants/capris and nice shirt/blouse will do just fine.

The second night is pirate night. We bring the full-blown pirate outfits but we are the exception. Most people buy pirate t-shirts at WDW along with some cute accessories (eye patches, etc). You are given a pirate bandana at dinner.

So any kind of black t-shirt along with some pirate accessories works great. You can definitely wear shorts at dinner on pirate night. It will be extremely hot at the pirate party. I swear I sweated off all the calories I ate at dinner that night.

I will tell you that that the CMs love if you get very dressed up on pirate night. The CMs are all dressed up so they enjoy seeing the passengers dress up.

The third night is "dress up" night. This is not formal night like on the Magic. This just means something dressier than casual night. Women wear skirts/dresses and the men wear a nicer shirt (button down). Some men pair that with a jacket. Some will add a tie but not many.

The key is to mix and match outfits - a nice top can be paired with pants one night and a skirt to make it dressier. For men....tan pants can be paired with a casual top one night and a jacket/button down shirt for dress up night.

ski-and-sea,
thanks for the info about how to dress. this is our 1st short cruise,(well sort of) we did the 1 night cruise to nowhere on NCL Dawn & Spirit for the past 2 years. but other than that we have been on 1 week or longer cruises. so i feel this will be just a tease. i want to see how the kids can handle being at sea,(seasickness). so the next one can be on the Magic!!!

Definitely a good plan. You can rebook onboard and get the discount for the longer cruises.

I know a lot of DISers feel the 3-night cruises aren't worth it but I disagree. My 3-night cruise last summer was one of my most relaxing vacations ever.

Thanks for the info, very much appreciated. I am planning on buying our pirate outfits here, we have some very funky ones in the shops at the moment. I think the pirate outfits at disney will consist of Elizabeth Swan type dresses, which are great but not as piratey as I'd like, oooarrrr, shiver me timbers and all that stuff!! :)

I will def check out the transport as suggested. Because I am trying to keep it a surprise, I think a towncar would prob be the best way to go.

Right I'm off to check all this stuff out, talk again soon,

Mandy.

This is a good plan. Grab what you can now. I agree that the Elizabeth Swann outfits are too dressy (and expensive).

We bought our pirate outfits in pieces and mixed and matched. All of us just wore black pants that we wore at dinner on the other nights.

One thing to mention is that it is extremely hot on deck 9 during the pirate party. The ship has to stop in order to launch the fireworks so you lose the sea breeze. Its fine in the dining rooms but sweaty outside.

This is the first time we're using a car service to take us to the port. We've always used the DCL buses but we're coming in a day early and staying at the port. We are taking the DCL busses back to the airport after the cruise.

Hey everyone!!!!

Got my Wonder travel guide in the mail

And told my TA to pay off the balance (not yay).

But it sure makes the cruise seem more real. And spring has sprung here with the weather even though not much is green outside. My lawn looks horrible. Did spring clean up last weekend and started cleaning out the garage today. Now my back is hurting so I'm off to the chiropractor.

You know the time is going to fly by. Little league season starts next week. I'm taking my Girl Scout troop to a dude ranch next weekend. We've been planning this trip for three years and everyone is so excited.

Then in early May I'm having two surgeries on my left foot to fix some old injuries. Going to broke and fixing everything at once. But that will put me out of commission until the end of June.

That's why I'm glad we're cruising so late in August as my foot will be completely healed by then. Last summer on my Wonder cruise I tried dancing at the pirate party and lasted about five minutes before my foot started to hurt.

I just searched on the web by typing in the words "pirate costume" and then checked out the different places that sell costumes. Some where halloween costume stores and others were more serious costume stores.

Sometimes I looked at stores that sell "Renaissance" clothing.

Then it comes down to who sells it cheapest because some of those costumes can get pricey

You can look on Ebay as well for pirate costumes.

Hi Ski,

You can get the navigators by going on the wdwinfo web site and clicking on Disney Cruie Line and then clicking on "navigators". Then look for 3-night Wonder cruises.

For kids your age the best time to hit the pools is early in the morning or late in the afternoon. The pools are a zoo in the middle of the day and its just too stressful on you.

The best advice I can give with kids that age is to be very flexible. They will be off of their regular routine and can get crabby. I remember one time DD was going to go to the kids club to do an activity and at the last minute changed her mind and wanted to hang out in our room.

Don't be surprised if both kids take an unplanned afternoon nap.

There are some family activites to do in addition to what is offered in the kids clubs.

On the Castaway Cay day, plan on getting off the ship as soon as possible. You have a better choice of beach chairs and the family beach isn't as crowded yet. I believe they start serving lunch at 11:30am. I would eat then and then you can see how tired the kids are after lunch. If the sun is getting to them then just return to the ship. It can get very, very hot at Castaway Cay in August and that sun will zap their energy.

And I always tell everyone - order a drink from the waiters that walk around the family beach. Its a wonderful luxury. What I do is ask that waiter to mix up something special - each CM has their own favorite drink that they like to make. And I usually ask for no alcohol and that's not a problem.

I've had some of the most yummy frozen drinks made by the CMs.....hmmmmm......delicious.

Hallooo,

Well got both dd's outfits sorted, our woolworths (dunno if you have them where you are) have fab cheap pirate outfits for little ones. My eldest daughter is almost into ladies clothes now so I have thrown a few bits together and am planning on sewing a few piratey bits and bobs on to make her feel a bit more special!

Still haven't got myself sorted, but some of the u.s fancy dress sites are awesome! Trouble is, with all the travelling we will be doing, I need a pirate hat that will bounce back into shape if it gets squashed. Either that, or I will look more like captain jack than anyone else on board!:)

We are due to pay on 7th june, :scared:

I am going to book my shore excursions then too, planning to do the dolphin encounter at least. Are the kids programs good during the day? I assume they will spend a fair amount of time inside? Don't want my 2 in the sun too long, but I plan to burn myself to a crisp personally!!!

Don't forget, I'll be the one with illuminous white/lobster red legs by the pool glugging the speciality drinks! Haha. Hey, how does the drink thing work on board? Is it charged to your room or do you pay as you go?

TTFN!

18 WEEKS TILL WE CRUISE!!!!!!
I will win the contest for the whitest legs which will turn cherry red by the end of the cruise.

I'm the one on Castaway Cay that is completely covered with towels on the beach chairs desperately trying to keep out of the sun.

Minniemandy......I like what you did with the pirate outfits. There are definitely some fantastic dressy outfits you can get on the web.

And yes, I know exactly what you mean about the hats getting smooshed. What I do is put the pirate hates in a paper bag and literally carried it onboard the plane.

And worse....I discovered the hard way that you have to be careful how to store the pirate hats at home. I wore my hat at Halloween and discovered it had gotten crushed in the bag in the cloest. Yes, its a felt hat.

The kids programs are generally indoors onboard - sometimes they will go out on the sports deck for 45 minutes. And they do not go in the water either on the ship or on Castaway Cay.

Drinks are charged to your stateroom account. You just pay with your KTTW card. The best deals are the drinks of the day. We've been disappointed with the margarita's they make on the ship. Too sour. We've even asked to put premium tequilla in it instead and that still doesn't help.

The dolphin encounters are great. We did the one in Cozumel.

We are planning on doing the eco-tour on Castaway Cay (aka the jet skis).

Yes, you have to be careful which Atlantis excursion you book. I believe the tour does NOT include access to the pools/beach. You just do the tour.

DCL did introduce an Atlantis excursion that does include full access to the pools/beach (Acquadventure), but its pretty pricey and you're better off booking the day room at Comfort suites.

Did you get your Wonder vacation guide yet? You can see the difference in the three Atlantis excursions.

Yes, the weather has been outstanding. And very dry, too. I'm taking my Girl Scout troop to a dude ranch and we're leaving tonight. We've been planning this trip for three years now. I've got 25 in total coming (moms and younger siblings included).

Everyone is so excited. I've heard nothing but great things about the ranch.

Pierresgirl~ welcome!!! i'm sure you will have a great time on your 1st cruise!!! i just love cruising!! its been 5 years since we had our last real cruise. we wanted to wait for the kids to be old enough so they could participate in the childrens programs. this is our 1st Disney cruise!! i can't wait. we had a room booked at ALK, but switched over to OKW, after we exchanged our timeshare week to stay on Disney property!! i will def. check out your pre-trip report and say hi!!!
~Sue

Well, thank ya! I looked back and saw that your ds is 5, mine too, he'll be 6 in Dec so they'll probably get to play in the kids club together! OKW looks SO pretty, I'd love to stay there one day (mainly for the fact that you can walk to Epcot) I really wanted to stay in the WL but my best friend is doing the land part with us and she wants AKL. She's never been so.... guess I'll be nice and give in ;) Hope to see you on my pretippie! BTW- we are in CT so not too far from you Jersey folks!

Hi Everyone

August 21 is our first cruise ever! DH and I have 3 daughters-- twins age 13 and a 9 year old. They will all be within 1 month of their next birthday. We are all super excited.

I have booked a day room at Comfort Suites. It costs $234 for the 4 of us (myself + girls, DH will stay onboard). Compare that to $155 per person through Disney! (OK, it would be "only" $105 for DD9-- but still!)

We decided not to do any excursions at Castaway Cay. We figured the Atlantis day would be the big outing and at CC we would just enjoy the water & the sand, get floats or something simple like that.

We have pirate hats and pirate-themed T-shirts that we got for PPP in August 07.

Welcome everyone :welcome:

We had a great time at the dude ranch this weekend. The weather was absolutely perfect....sunny skies/low humidity/comfortable temperatures.

DD rode for four hours on Saturday and three hours on Sunday. I rode for two hours on Saturday and one hour on Sunday. My sprained ankle was hurting too much to do more so I stayed with the beginner class. DD rode in the advanced class.

My moms had a great time, too.

The food was excellent. Very much like DCL - you showed up at the dining room at assigned times and sat down to eat. Heavenly.

We are all sore - mostly sore bums.

Lots and lots of wonderful memories. The resort booked us in connecting rooms so the girls had rooms to themselves while us moms were in the connecting rooms. So everyone had their "privacy".

We're already planning our next "big" trip. We talked about doing a cruise but we could only go in the middle of June and that is just too expensive a time for our budget. So I placed a call to the Smugglers' Notch resort in VT and they are working out a price quote for us because June is a "cheap" month for them.

solgent- welcome aboard!!!
wow you booked at comfort suites!! maybe i should look into that, too! since everyone is telling meto do that.

pierresgirl- yes my ds is 5.. so our boys will be hanging out at the oceaniers club, (i think thats what its called)!! my dd (4)l be there also.
my dh, really want to stay at ALK, but when i saw a Disney property on II for an exchange, i just had to jump on the deal-- it's only $139 for the week!! so i saved us a bunch of money!! i guess he really couldn't complain. we will not be spending the full week there, only 5 days... then it's off on the boat!!!
i do have to go on your pre-trip report. which one is it, i see you have 2... opps nevermind i just answered my own question, by scrolling down.. it's to late now, (10 pm). have to get off to watch "gene simmons family jewels" love that show!!

ski- i'm glad you had a good time at the dude ranch, sorry to hear that you are a little sore. wow! you are already looking for another trip, good for you guys!! how fun!!

ok i must go for now!!

welcome all the new cruisers!!

I love that show too! I don't blame you for switching resorts to get the savings! One of the reasons I'm doing this cruise is to get a discount for a 7 day next Aug (providing I like cruising in the first place!) I think I got that special offer in the mail but my best friend wants to do AKL. If she can't go we'll switch to WL.

SO- any one done the Castaway Cay excursions? I can bet my dd and dh will want to do either parasailing of the banana boat. Well, who am I kidding, they'll want both!

The reality show I got a big kick out of was CMT's my Big Redneck Wedding. OMG that show was so funny.

Talk about a different side of life.

The only excursion I've done on CC was the boat snorkeling one. We're going to try for the eco-tour (jet skiing). Hopefully DCL will work out the vendor issues in the meantime.

And yes, I'm in vacation planning mode all the time. Yesterday, I just booked my ski trips for next winter.

Hi Everyone,

Good to see some new cruisers on here, was beginning to think that it would really be the quietest cruise ever!

After a week of hell I'm back! Had my purse stolen last weekend :sad1: so have been unable to do ANYTHING! Cancelled all my cards n stuff, but it's surprising how much information you carry around with you!

Nevermind tho, I have my Disney trip to continue with, that keeps me very busy! (Now that I have my cards back!)

Girls still don't know about the cruise, I can't wait to see thier faces! Maybe we could all plan to meet up at some point? I think it would be good for the kids to meet up with each other so they'll at least know each other in the kids clubs. (That's assuming that everyone is like me and plans to ditch kids and chill!!!!) :lmao:

Anyways, just thought I'd check in n say hi, hope everyone is well.

TTFN, Mandy.

Mandy- OMG i'm so sorry that happened to you! yikes!! i'm glad everything is all settled, but i'll tell uou the nerve some people have!! ugh, that gets me so mad!! make sure you have your credit score checked and all of that stuff.. DH had a problem one year when we went to visit family in GA. someone got his CC # and boom we were charged some crazy stuff!! it was all taken care of though by his CC company.
yes that will be great to to have DIS meet. are you just doing the cruise or are you in the parks too? opps, i don't remember, sorry!!

ski- i know what you mean about planning mode. i am trying to plan our trip to Myrtle Beach. we are going in june right after school gets out. we are only going for 3 days, though. but i have never been there. so ihave to do my research!!

Pierresgirl- i was reading your other trip report, how funny your dd is a Hannah Montana fan. so is my DD. i have to go out today to get some stuff for her b-day party. we have'nt decided if it should be HM or High School Musical. i'm only thinking of HSM, because there will be some boys there. so who knows!!

bye for now

Yep, it's a weird one. Purse was handed in at a police station in Liverpool (dunno if anyone knows it, most people say, "Oh, where the Beatles are from"!) I live over the river from it (a very big, very dirty river!!,"Ferry 'cross the Mersey" as the song goes) So at least I don't have to go through the procedure of getting a new driving licence etc. Y'know, I was more upset about losing a badge I'd gotten from a bar in Amsterdam. It was called the 'Black and White', and I have been going there for years. It played lots of Rock music which I loved, and the people were fab. Anyhoo, it shut down this year, and all I have left is that badge. I will find out if it's still in my purse when I go get it from the police station. What's that all about? I guess my purse had a little vacation of it's own!

Yeah, we are vising parks the week before. Staying at POFQ 15-20, then to cruise, then to Hardrock till 29th! We're gonna be very busy bunnies me thinks!

My eldest LOVES Hannah Montana, and HSM:cheer2: What party did you decide on in the end? Just got her a Hannah Montana game (from U.S) for her Nintendo DS, it's fab, I've been playing it myself! You can play guitar, drums etc, now I'm waffling, doh!

Got our pirate stuff sorted now, Yippee!!! Can't wait. pirate:

OMG, I read a cruise trip report, it was by a guy (Dreamfinder2) on the cruise trip reports, (titled: 3 day wonder - more info than you can possibly stand) it was amazing. He had me addicted, I couldn't wait for the next installment. There is one picture on there though, WOW! It's of the sunrise from aboard the ship, it made my hair stand on end. If you haven't already, you must check it out! I can't post links as I'm too new hence the stuff in brackets.

I'm not a slushy type of person, but some of the stuff on here brought tears to my eyes, seriously!

Ski-and-Sea, dunno when your op is, but good luck! Hope you are ok. :)

Well hope everyone is well and happy, I certainly am.

Talk soon then.

Thanks for sloughing through the other one! Yep, she just got the HM electric guitar yesterday for doing the radio show. It will be aired on Sat morning so I'm really excited! For her bd we had an HM cake with HSM plates and napkins, made it easy!

WOW, you guys really ARE doing alot! The Hard Rock Hotel looks so cool, I've thought of staying there before. We stayed at POFR before and really enjoyed it, it's very prtty, the pool is great and it's a small resort so you don't have to walk far to get anywhere! I read his report yesterday and it was SO good!

I am from the UK too but have lived here most of my life. Born in Southampton, came here at 4 y.o. then went back from 16-20 but lived in High Wycombe. I used to go to the Hard Rock in London ALL the time and I love the fact that my name is on the first page of their menu :thumbsup2 We have one about 10 mins from where I live and I went last week with my sister and were seated next to the Alice Cooper memorabilia so Cooper was all excited! My cousin is coming in a few weeks from S'oton for a visit so I need to put in my shopping list (Cadburys, flakes, Milky Bar, fruit pastilles.... my list could go on!) I go back every 2-3 years, Bella LOVES England and has a hard time deciding between England and Disney

Oh wow! That's so weird! I'm from the Wirral, but my Mum got married when I was 5 and moved to Southampton! (Long story!) I lived there when I was 13, and 16 (Another long story!!):rotfl: , went to Southampton Tech! Haha! I take the girls about 3 times a year to Nanny n Grandads! (They live in a mobile home n I get stuck on couch for a week, ouch!!!)

LOVE Hardrock in London, I'm a die hard, went to the one in Hurghada in Egypt, Amsterdam (My friend named Jude got sat under the "Hey Jude" disc by the Beatles by coincidence!), New York, Manchester will be in June with my All Access Membership Card!!!:cool2: (Are we gonna get told off for being off topic?) How lucky are you with your name on the menu? I suppose if Barry Manilow ever opens a restaurant I'll be in with a chance (OH Mandy!!) (That man caused me a lot of suffering in my early years!!!)

As for the sweets, the grass is greener, I love those Peanut Butter Cups!:cloud9:

U.K n Disney, well I know what I'd choose, but that again is down to the grass being greener!:thumbsup2

so you like Hard Rock too. thats why we are going to Myrtle Beach, SC. in June. so we can go to the Hard Rock theame park!!should be fun, but nothing like DW! well i am also going because i've just dying to go to the KISS cafe!! should be fun!!

Yeah but Leyla by Eric Clapton is far more cool than Barry Manilow, you know it's true! How lucky are you? If you ever manage to get close enough to the person in charge of Hardrock, I will expect a detailed account with photos!!! :lmao: Those chicken thingies sound fab (ok so I can't spell quesedillas!!);)

We can get the PB Cups in Woolworths and Asda here now, they're amazing! We can also get Beef Jerky, I hadn't even heard of that till I went to New York, it's sooo good! (So's the Pastrami on rye at Kats Deli, but that's another story!)

Sue - Spongebob? I didn't see that coming! I hope she has a fab time, and a very happy birthday! The Hardrock, what can I say? Love love love it! The theme park looks amazing, you'll have to tell me all about the Kiss cafe, I wonder if Gene Simmons will pop in? (or Paul, Ace or Peter?) It's so sad that I know all the names!! Such a pity that they're not all together anymore. Kiss are playing a festival in U.K, but it's not the Kiss line up that we all know. I've seen them live twice, the show is amazing. Paul Stanley came in above the crowd on a zip wire!

Soo, anyhoo, the cruise? Anyone up for a cocktail or three while we're on board? :beach:

Hello People!:grouphug: Hey sorry about the radio silence, been hectic!

Hope all is well, welcome mikesmom, so you're a serial cruiser then? I shall definately be plying you for more information!

Hey Sue, I read about the lady on the NCL Dawn, sounds very scary, but I'm sure in true Disney style, everything will be spectacularly safe and lovely. I certainly hope so anyway, I don't wanna spend my cruise worrying about anything!

Ok, so we've had the last of our summer I think, although it lasted rather longer than the last one we had! :rotfl: It's back to socks and cardigans, so my legs that were starting to respond to the sunlight, are now returning to the usual corpse like colour that they were to begin with! (Sorry guys, but my legs are seriously white!)

My head is very disney'd out. I think I've read every book, forum etc. I still gotta work out my specific itinerary, but I can't bring myself to do it just yet. I think once I'm paid up that will kick my behind into doing something. Booked all my disney resort meals etc so that's all good. My girls still don't know anything about this cruise, it's my little secret, and oh so difficult to keep it that way.

Ok, so I'm just about to do all my hoovering before I pick the girls up from school. It's a very interesting life I lead! :lmao: Got my hat by the way, it's funky!pirate:

Well, a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do, :laundy: Yep, I'm definately in need of my hols! Talk soon, bye for now!

Hi Postalcop and Minniemandy

Yes, we love to cruise (just did our 1st Royal Carribbean in January - lots of fun but not Disney) so ask away Minniemandy

Is anyone thinking of doing the excursion to Atlantis? I read somewhere that some Disers rent a room at the Comfort Suites on Paradise Island for the day and they give you passes to go use the facilities at Atlantis. This can be alot cheaper than paying for the escursion via Disney. I checked the rates at the Comfort Suites and it is $188.10 (AAA rate) for one night for one room. We have 6 people in our party so we would need to reserve 2 rooms. We are thinking about it. The Atlantis is supposed to be beautiful.

Hi everyone! I've had a very busy week between work and taking a certification class, it's all good though!

I don't think we are going to do any excursions in Nassau. I'd love to do Atlantis but since it's only a 3 day cruise I want to enjoy the boat. We'll do the straw market (love me those bags :thumbsup2 ) and putz about but that's about it.

On CC my dh and dd want to parasail and maybe we'll do one of those paddle boat things, other than that I'm not sure.... Just enjoy myself basically!

Sorry I've been MIA for the past month but we've had one of those "bad things come in 3's" kind of month.

I had my foot surgery on May 5th. All went well with the surgery. In fact, better than expected because the MRI I had taken a few days before showed way more damage than initially thought.

But it turned out not to be the case. The broken toe was repaired and I now have a metal pin inserted through the tip of my toe. The damaged ligament was cut in half and grafted on itself to shorten and strengthen it. Plus a nearby ligament was cut and grafted onto the shortened ligament to help stabilize the ankle joint.

Needless to say my poor foot has been traumatized.

To be blunt - the recovery has been awful. Way worse than I expected. The first week I was in incredible pain. The toe was the worst - it felt like it was on fire. I could feel where the skin was cut open and how the pin is pushing apart the bones.

I was prescribed pain pills but all that did was make me sleep a lot and then feel groggy and nauseous.

That lasted about five days and then the pain gradually went away.

I'm in a cast up to my knee and am on crutches.

Being on crutches is just horrible.....horrible, horrible, horrible. All your body weight rests on your hands and forearms and those body parts are just not designed to take that kind of weight.

Its exhausting just getting around the house. Plus, you've lost the use of your hands so you can't do things like cook/clean/etc.

Fortunately, my mom stayed with me for the first five days and she did everything for me.

When she left, I went to a medical supply store and rented something called a "kneel walker". It has literally saved my life. It looks something like a razor scooter where I rest my knee on it and just push myself around.

I use the crutches when outdoors. But let me tell you, public places are extremely unfriendly to people on crutches. Doors are too heavy to open, wheel chair ramps are no where near the front doors, curbs are extremely high and steps are everywhere.

I had no idea how important it is to have two working legs. Everything is exhausting. Here I was thinking that I won't be doing much and I'll gain weight and lose my strength because I can't work out.

Wrong!!!! My arms and good leg take all my body weight and I'm so exhausted I don't feel like eating so I'm losing weight.

I cannot wait until this cruise so I can eat and eat and eat and eat.

I've got two more weeks on the crutches then two weeks in a surgical boot.

So we're halfway there.

And just to add to the misery......DD was hurt in a bicycle accident. She and her best friend and DH were riding in our neighborhood when a speeding car came around a corner and didn't see DD. She had to swerve to get out of the way and lost her balance and fell off the bike. This happened on a hill.

She didn't break any bones but she was literally covered in blood from the neck down from road burns and a bad laceration on her arm.

Fortunately, our neighbor is an EMT so DS ran and got him and he came over and cleaned up DD enough so we could take her to the hospital.

No broken bones, no internal injuries and four stitches to the left forearm.

But one of the wounds got infected so back to the doctor and DD got put on antibiotics. That actually helped heal all the wounds a whole lot faster.

It could have been a whole lot worse.

Then last week we discovered DD has Lyme disease. She pulled two ticks out of her a few weeks ago. Then last week she got the bulls-eye rash.

Back to the doctor again. More antibiotics.

So we've had one heck of a time here.

Welcome to everyone who's joined this thread. We're onboard for the 8/17 4-night cruise.

It will be me, DH and DS (13) and DD (12).

In Nassau we're doing a private snorkeling excursion with Stuart Cove. We're visiting two possibly three reefs.

At CC we've book the eco-tour at 10:30am. Its something DD's wanted to do.

I'd love to do a DIS meet on the first day of boarding. The best thing to do is meet at the Promenade Lounge at 3pm. Have a nice chat with each other then head back to our staterooms for the safety drill at 4pm.

DH is a Brit. Grew up in Coventry. Moved here in 1970. But is an avid English football fan.

hi everyone- happy Memorial Day weekend!!

ski&sea- i'm glad your back, i'm sorry to hear about your past month! ouch!! i glad your almost done recovering from surgury. you will feel a little better with the boot on, but it will still be awkward. (i had to use one a few years back when i fell down stairs at work, didnt break anything though.) every so often i have to wear a wrap around my ankle. hopefully you wont have to!!! jeez and sorry to hear about your dd. it must have been freightening for her. (both incidents).

mandy- the end of summer??? yikes, i'm still waiting for ours to begin!! it's been so cold, rainy, etc.. i just can't stand it any more.

Dis meet sounds great!! let me know where and when and we will be there!!!

i have been on the comp. most of today trying to re-schedual my Myrtle Beach trip. we came up with a new itinerary... it just sucks everything was all set up.. we were leaving in 1 month from today, had it all planned, staying on the beach..... then i just found out(today) i am schedualed to take my police exam right in the middle of my vacation. (thank god it wasnt schedualed for when the Dis trip is , god i would not have known what to do!! don't think II ins. would cover that!!)any way we are still going to MB but just staying for 3 nights... and not on the beach!!
oh well .. hope every one has a great weekend!

Sue....thanks for the well wishes. Yes, the doc did say something about wearing a wrap. But I'll admit I was half listening at the time.

When I was planning this surgery I told the doc to fix me for life. I don't want any ankle problems creeping up 10 years from now because fixing it then would be much worse.

Oh how awful to have to reschedule a vacation trip. Glad you are still going. We take a week and vacation at the Jersey shore in late July every year.

It sure doesn't feel like beach weather here in NJ. Amazing how temps in the upper 60s today feels positively hot.

We saw the Narnia movie today. It was very good. Went to an early showing and the theater was empty so I was able to put my foot up on the seat in front of me so I was quite comfortable.

Hi Y'all!

Wow, Ski, you had a mega bad time of it, gosh, well I hope everything is looking up for you now. Coventry is just a couple of hours from here. Have you ever been?

Hey Sue, well we usually get one or two good days during July/August, but this year we've had had a few already, so I did make the most of it while I could. Now it's back to rain, and I've even had to put my heating back on, doh!

And, what's the straw market? We will be doing the dolphin encounter because my eldest will love it.

Anyhoo, we've been to Whitby for the past 4 days. It's where dracula supposedly docked for the first time when he came to England. It's a fab place, but unfortunately for me the fish and chips are rather delicious and I've come back with very tight fitting clothes that were ok before I went!

So I'll be paying up in the next few days, then I'll really believe that I am actually going on DCL! How fabulous!

Righty, I'll sign off for a bit, I'm off to think of some questions that I need to ask. Whenever I get on here, I've always forgotten what I needed to know. I blame the kids for my diminishing brain cells! ;)

Talk soon, Mandy.

hello.....
so, wow we have 1 week left until we book our shore excursions!! i can't beleive it time is just flying by!! i still think we are doing the Atlantis excursion and i think at CC we are just laying on the beach!! finally something nicer than the Jersey shore,(i can say that!!)

Mandy-
the Straw market,(from what i hear, i have never been there), has all of our favorite "designer" purses, wallets, sun glasses, etc... ya know like fake Coach, Prada, Dolce & Gabana, etc.... 2 of my co-workers just recently came back from cruises and said i will LOVE it there. a differenr co-worker said to stay away??? who knows, well i am going to check it out anyway. aparently it right near the dock, and should have no problem seeing it.

ski-&-sea- so how are you feeling? how was the Narnia movie? i didn't even relize it was out in the movies, yet. we have'nt heard much about it. i know we want to go see Indiana Jones before june 6th. that when the Panda movie come out. we like to go to the Dunellen theater. it perfect for us with the kids.have you ever been there?? it's old and dated, but we can bring the kids, have pizza, and a pitcher of beer(or juice). not bad if we can't get a sitter!

Pierresgirl- hope everything is ok?? have'nt heard from you in a while..

does anyone know when we will get our dining rotation, or do we have to wait until we board the ship tha day??

Hey all,

I had a bit of a medical scare on Thursday. Went to see the foot doctor for a check up and it looked like I had a blood clot in the leg. So the cast was cut off and I had a vascular sonogram.

Everything was negative. Looks like the top of the cast was pinching the back of my knee causing pain. So the doctor padded the top of the cast when he put it back on.

Good news is the pin was taken out of my toe. But the toe is painful right now. The toe was twisted the wrong way and now its taped back in the right position so its sore.

Two more weeks in a cast. Then two weeks in a surgical boot.

Well a monkey wrench got thrown into our Nassau plans. Looks like the Wonder is now leaving Nassau at 5pm rather than 7pm. We had a private snorkeling excursion booked that ended at 5:15pm. I got an email from the vendor saying we can no longer do it. :furious:

So the ship is only in Nassau for something like 5 hours. That's really not a long time.

Saw Iron Man last night. What a fantastic movie!!!!! One of the best I've seen in a while. Narnia was very good, too.

My kids only have three more weeks of school. Then they immediately start at a local day camp.

So the camp billl and the cruise bill hit my credit card in the same month. :scared1: :faint:

wow we leave Nassau at 5 pm. now i have to relook at the shore excursions. i want to see if it's worth going to the Atlantis for that short amount of time.
ski- did you find out only because your private tour co. sent you an email- or did you see the info some where else??? i am bad i haven't done to much searching on the net for the cruise. only been checking out info on Old Key West, and the autotrain and Myrtle Beach. guess i should start check out our shore excursions since we have to start booking on the 6th or 7th!!

and wow ski- not so good with your leg jeez i hope you will be well healed by the time the trip comes around!!
well i have to get the kids up and ready for school now! dd last day is the 10th and ds last day is the 18th, would have been the 16th but we had 2 snow days!

Sue,

I found out a couple of ways. Someone mentioned in their trip report that the Wonder left Nassau at 5:15pm. I saw a navigator posted on the web from the first double dip cruise that listed the Wonder leaving Nassau earlier.

And I got an email from Stuart Cove snorkeling saying they cancelled my reservation because they were told the Wonder is leaving Nassau earlier.

Absolutely this impacts the decisions on what to do in Nassau. Is is worth it to go all the way over to Atlantis just for a few hours? Nassau is not like Castaway Cay where you just get off the ship and immediately you're on the beach.

We ended up booking one of the DCL snorkeling excursions that is still listed as saying we get back to the ship at 5:15pm.

We are just heart broken that we had to cancel the Stuart Cove snorkeling trip. We could have switched to their morning snorkeling trip but the Wonder doesn't dock at Nassau until almost 10am.

I mean, if the ship is leaving Nassau earlier in the day then at least they could have docked at Nassau earlier in the morning.

Latest Wonder navigator says we're leaving Nassau at 5pm.

Wow - that departure times seems to be creeping backwards each week!!!!

This really stinks. There had better a really, really good explanation for this. I'm on the 8/17 Wonder as well as people on that cruise meet thread are having to rethink their shore excursions as well.

At the very least, DCL could have sent letters/emails alerting us of the time change.

Well, I hope everyone can figure what to do on Nassau. There is always the option of not getting off at all. We did that last year. The kids stayed in the clubs all day and I had a wonderful time reading the final Harry Potter book at the adult pool. It was heavenly.

well we just saw Indiana Jones it was a good movie, but i never saw any of the original movies, so i guess i will rent them or maybe buy them and watch them on the autotrain on our way down to Fla.

I think if you leave the ship right away you should have enough time at Atlantis to have a good time and not feel rushed.

Of course, it would be better to have those two extra hours but at least its still do-able.

My problem is that my excursion gets back around 6pm and the Wonder doesn't arrive early enough to do the morning version of the excursion.

Did you see the weather forecast for this weekend. :beach:

I am totally dreading Monday because DD has a softball game at a field that has absolutely no shade.

Our plan is to see the Indy movie this weekend. The first one is the best of the original three. The second one was our least favorite. The third one is good as well.

Yikes, we can't get off the ship in Nassau until 10:30am?????

How slow will the ship be sailing from Port Canaveral????

The people on the 8/17 Wonder are beginning to think the rising price of oil has something to do with this.

Yes, I was able to book one of the DCL snorkeling excursions in Nassau. Its an afternoon excursion. Just visiting one reef. But at least we get in some snorkeling.

I'm up for getting together for drinks.

Hello fellow cruisers! I finally found you. Is this cruise underbooked? Is that good for upgrades?

New to this (hence the "novice"). Looking forward to our first cruise. Traveling with DD 20 and DS 16. My kiddies are much older than yours --- I like the way they carry their own luggage.

Have begun countdown until I can online check in. So exciting!!! Glad to have found people who won't mind it when I talk about my upcoming cruise 24/7!

Welcome....:welcome:

The "D" stands for either "dear" or "Disney". I think its unique to the DIS.

Good question on how full this cruise will be. I think more people are doing the 4-night cruises this summer because of the 2 stops to Castaway Cay. My 8/17 cruise has been sold out for a while.

So keeping fingers crossed you get an upgrade.

I did a 3-night last summer in late August and the ship didn't "feel" full at all. In fact, it felt very relaxed.

Absolutely this is the place for all cruising talk all the time.

Thanks all for your warm welcomes!

pierresgirl -- I have read on other posts that the ferry is too time consuming and taxis are the way to go -- $4/pp.

I was nervous about the Nassau time changes so didn't book an excursion there. We will check out the Pirate Museum and anything else people recommend. Then head back to ship for less crowded fun there.

Did book the Extreme Getaway for CC. It seems to have a little bit of everything included in it. DD wants to feed sting rays; DS wants to snorkle. This package makes everybody happy! Got to love it!

I have a question that I haven't seen addressed on the disboards yet ---- what are the chances that my DD 20 will be allowed to go w/ her brother DS 16 to the teen clubs? Will she be banned? He might not join in if he has to go alone.

DCL is very strict with age limits in the kids clubs. So, no, DD would not be allowed in Aloft.

DCL does have a "college" social (it should be listed in the Navigator) where the 18-21 y/o's meet.

My DS is 13 so he will be in the teen club. He's very social and friendly.

I know what you mean about siblings wanting to do things together. My DD & DS are very close.

Off to DD's final softball game. Its 99 degrees outside and we're playing in a park that has zero shade.

If you use DCL transport then you don't have to worry about your luggage. DCL will send you special luggage tags to put on your bags. So you don't have to retrieve your bags at the airport. They will go straight to the Wonder.

You just look for the DCL reps at the airport and they will direct you to the busses.

Wow - the last four days were just brutal. Saturday and Monday were the worst. Temps hit 100 on both days. My kids had baseball/softball games on Saturday and Monday night.

DD's softball game was the worst. Absolutely no shade and a looooong walk from the parking lot to the field (of course the girls' field is the furthest from the parking lot).

I woke up this morning in a lot of pain from heat exhaustion and all the walking from DD's game.

Got a mini massage this morning and feeling better. DD's softball party is tonight.

My cast comes off at 11:00am on Thursday. I'll be in a walking cast for two weeks but at least NO CRUTCHES!!!!

Re the banana boat rides.....DCL has had problems with the vendor in the past and my guess is that they just finally stopped dealing with them for good.

Unfortunately it means we will not know if/when DCL can find another vendor to offer banana boat rides. The vendors come from Abaco Island and are not Disney employees.

Re the drinks onboard......there is a drink "special" of the day that is at a reduced price. Its a different drink each day and I believe its listed in the Navigator. I remember in Cozumel that the drink of the day was a tequila sunrise. It was yummy.

And speaking of drinks....DH and I still cannot find any DCL bartenders that can make a decent margarita. We've even ask to put in more expensive tequilla and the margarita's still don't taste as good as what we can make/buy back home.

Yes, the cast is off!!!!!! Came off Thursday. I now have a surgical boot. I am now extremely sympathetic with the Yankee pitcher who got hurt running the bases a few days ago.

I still have to use the crutches. I can "walk" with the crutches for about an hour a day. I have to ease into putting my body weight onto the foot.

And I wish the doc had mentioned that I would shed skin like a rattlesnake. Sheesh - layers and layers of skin came off like in a horror movie.

And my calf is half the size of the other one. But the foot looks pretty good.

So I've got two weeks in the boot. Then after that I will need physical therapy to learn how to walk again.

But having the ability to put both feet on the ground even for a few minutes is such a relief.

I did do something silly - I badly sunburned the skin that used to be covered by the cast. I was watching DS's playoff baseball game and didn't realize how strong the sun was. The rest of me didn't really burn but the lower leg is lobster red and boy is it sore.

Last week of school for my kids.

FYI.

:surfweb:

I have been following an excellent trip report for the 3 day Wonder.

Not sure how to provide the thread but it's ::::: 6/5/08 3 Night Wonder Trip Report- with Navigators, 20 tips, and 100+ photos!!!

Fun to read and really good info.

Check it out. ::yes::

conecruisin- i will def. check it out. i love reading the TR, esp. the ones with pictures.

sea & ski- i'm glad your cast is off, and its getting some fresh air (finally)!!- nice weather this week, (yeah!!)
thats just horrible with your leg peeling like that, and then getting a burn on top of it! just goes easy on your foot so you wont feel pain when it snows or rains.. just take it easy!

well 1 more day of school. 1/2 day tomorrow! then sat. we are off to Myrtle Beach.

well i want to go and catch up on the Disboards,(and also check out that TR that gonecruisin mentioned) since i have been MIA this past crazy week!

Hi everyone,

We booked the Comfort Suites on Paradise Island - proce was 207.20 pernight and we needed 2 book 2 rooms since there are 7 of us ($419.34). They give you a pass to use all of the facilites at Atlantis. We are going to check in adn get the passes (it is a short walk accross the street to Atlantis)We will probably take a cab there and back. I read alot about cruisers fdoing this so I hope is works out okay (some said they never even checked in the room at all but is was well worth the price to go to Atlantis.

gonecrusin, I am travelling with my DS20 his Dfriend20 and Dniece15 (my kids are more your kids age!)

ski-n-sea, hope you are feeling well and getting around better!

Has anyone had the massage in the cabanas on Castaway Cay? Thinking about it but the price is high - just wondering if it is worth it.

Enjoy your day evrryone!

9 WEEKS TO GO!!!!!!

I have yet to hear anything bad about doing the Comfort Suites day rooms. The only negative is that we have two less hours in Nassau than we usually do. I am still so disappointed that we had to cancel our private snorkeling excursion because the ship arrives too late and departs too early

I have heard good things about the Castaway Cay massage. They are located at the adult beach. Those huts look heavenly and I would definitely do it one time. Indulge yourself. The only funny thing I've read is that they aren't quite as "private" as you think and people can peek in from the adult beach area. So when you remove your top to get the massage just be mindful of "how" you do it.

Today I did my first walking without the crutches. How glorious to be "hands free"!!!!!

Hi Mikesmom.

Good to hear that my kids won't be the only teenagers on board. That will help ease the awkwardness. My kids have never done a DCL and are frightened it'll be like visiting a kindergarten class on steroids. Your kids seem like pros ---- I asked earlier if the 20 y/o got to join w/ their sibs at Aloft and was told no. True? Does your teen spend much time at Aloft?

You'll have to let me know how you make out with the Comfort Inn and Atlantis. I really wanted to do that but being a newbie, was scared of commiting only to get screwed and then the time changes just convinced me that I'd be better off taking it slow.

Do you veterans decorate your doors and dress for pirate's night? I am getting conflicting info from reading various posts. It seems like the 3 night cruise is more laid back. I am already thinking I need to book a 7 night cruise so I don't miss a thing. Amazing how quickly you get addicted to this!!!!

Hi gonecruisin

Yes, the teens have great fun (as long as they are not too shy). They are all in the same place so they are open to making new friends. We didi the Royal Caribeean in January and my DS20 loved having the casino but he is a disney lover - so he is lookign forward to going back on Disney. We are a little leary about the Comfort Suites but I have been reading positive things on this board so I am going to hope for the best. We have 7 travelling and the excursion thru Disney was just too much and the family really wants to see Atlantis.

We decorated our door when we travelled the last time (after we saw how many peopel did it on our 1st Disney cruise). And we have some pirate shirts and such form Disney's pirate and process party so we will dress for that.

Tell the kids it doesn't matter ow old they are on a DIsney cruise - it is fun for all!

And you will definitely book the 7 day after this cruise! it is addictive :)

Yes, its true that not as many on the 3-night cruises dress for pirate night or decorate doors. But the only reason that is true is that many on the 3-night are first-timers and don't know!!!

If more people knew ahead of time to dress up and decorate theirs doors then you would see more of it.

So go ahead and dress up and decorate the doors!!! The CMs and other passengers loved looking at our door and loved that we dressed up for pirate night!!!!

Our stateroom host told us that he got so many comments from people about our door. And every CM we saw on pirate night was so happy that we dressed up. Not just the entertainment staff dresses up but also the entire bar staff. So it really becomes a festive atmosphere when you walk around the ship all dress up. Argh matey pirate:

We don't have the pirate night menu in the dining rooms like on the longer cruises but we still do the conga line during dinner. My kids enjoy that.

BTW.....did you notice that the all aboard time in Nassau is now 5pm!!! Sheesh.

WELCOME-- mpaulin123!!! we just drove back thru VA..oh. my the traffic, but i guess it was more so near DC.- must remember to leave early for autotrain, so we can make it on time!!!

Sue - good luck on the test (and getting up that early).

Well, I am out of the surgical boot and into some kind of heavy duty ankle wrap. Looks pretty high tech with all these straps. But I am 100% on both feet now.

I walk like a drunken sailor - can't walk in a straight line. I drift to the left.

So the doc tells me I need four weeks of physical therapy three times a week. So I start that tomorrow afternoon.

If all goes well I will be 100% recovered by the end of July which is just in time for our week at the Jersey shore.

Got a sad situation with one of the family cats. He's got an obstruction in his intestines because he ate some critter that didn't fully digest. The Vet tried giving him pills and other means of breaking up the blockage but no good.

An extreme measure would be surgery but we don't think the cat would survive and the recovery would be awful. His body is shutting down as it is. He's lost 25% of his body weight. He's not eating/drinking anymore.

We think he's reaching the end of his life (he's an older cat) and let him die peacefully at home surrounded by family.

Onto happier topics.....I did read that TR from the dad about his 3-night cruise. His experience was identical to mine last year and its a great introduction to what awaits for us in two months time.

:cheer2: It's almost July! Which means it'll soon be August and then our cruise will be right around the corner! I am sooo excited! The wait it killing me.

:surfweb: I checked out the status of cabins on the Dis website ---- they only have cats 5,6,7 & 8 left. So the cruise is filling up but our fellow cruisers haven't seemed to made their way to this thread yet.

I still haven't gotten a cabin # and don't expect one until 3 weeks out but am praying for the upgrade fairy to sprinkle some pixie dust my way. pixiedust:

Does anyone here already know their cabin #?

I have started to try to make door magnets. I am off to buy some magnetic paper. If they come out ok, I'll try to post some here. I am a functionally illiterate computer user, so they may be lame and completely unprofessional looking. They will, however, help me find my cabin after too many Bahama Mamas. :ssst:

I'm functionally illiterate on the computer, too. My door signs are about as low-tech as you can get. I'm always impressed at the creativity of some people's door signs.

Yes, we know our cabin number. We're up on deck 8 directly below the Goofy pool. Its a "noisy" cabin. But since we're doing back-to-back cruises and wanted to keep the same room we had little choice on what was available.

Gonecruisin.....keeping fingers crossed for an upgrade. The people I cruised with last year on the 3-night did get upgrades.

let me tell you a little about us. I am a mother of a 8yr old (Isaiah) and 4yr old (Daniel) we travel ever year with my cousin from new york who also has kids the same age. we have been to costa rico and Dominican Republic. we came to disney world when my son was only two months.. and have some great pictures of him in his stroller sleep. Lol

anyway Isaiah and his cousin Ari are celebrating there birthday. They where born a year apart on the same day. what a surprise to find out my closes cousin had her daughter the same day I had my son. I am trying to make the cruise and very memorable experience for all the kids AND MOM. I have read alot about the doors and i have attempted to make a few. after we get off the ship we are staying at animal kingdom lodge, so i will be away from work for two weeks.

Postalcop.....good luck with your test. When do you get the results?

I, too, get my magnetic paper at Staples. I think Walmart has the cheapest prices but Staples is closer to me and with gas prices :scared1: where they are its not worth it to drive farther to save a few pennies.

I've never requested a dining rotation. I know its been said on the DIS boards that DCL does have some method to how families are assigned a rotation but we've been all over the place in our own experience.

I'd be really surprised if everyone does not get a cabin upgrade. You all booked enough in advance so DCL needs to move people around.

Finished my first week of physical therapy. Its all very confusing to me. I'm back to normal doing some things and in extreme pain doing other things. Yet pain is part of the normal healing process. So I have pain from being cut open and pain from being immobilized for 8 weeks.

But the ankle itself is repaired. That's the best news of all.

Both kids are away next week with their camp. I've always joked that if both kids were ever away at camp that I would be drunk for a week. So here comes my chance and I have to go out and do physical therapy three times a week.

I will be so ready to party come cruise time. :cool1:

Hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th of July. How great that it falls on a Friday this year!!!! We're going to see WallE on Friday then my family comes over on Saturday to celebrate DD's birthday.

Our cabin number is 6110 on deck 6, I think it's near to the lift area which is handy!

What's everyone doing about insurance? I've been checking out different policies, but there doesn't seem to be many that cover land and sea.

Well here in the uk it's our usual typical summer. Rain, rain, rain and more rain! Very difficult to make plans or go anywhere, so I'll be well ready for a break by the time it comes!

Hey all,

We won't get our cruise documents until about 10 days before sailing. I know, that's cutting it close. But there really isn't that much to the documents anymore since you register online. Only the luggage tags (if using DCL transport), DCL bus passes and the Bahamas immigration form.

Postalcop.....love the Mickey pirate shirts. They are adorable.

MPaulin123.....great story about life with the kids away. Its so sad when we adults need loads of naps after just one late night. Its very hard to predict who gets seasick. The only time I really felt seasick was when we were sailing around a tropical storm and you could really feel the ship rocking.

Last year on the Wonder I only felt the ship moving on the first night and only when I was in bed. Day time was fine.

To be safe, I'd pack some ginger snaps. But I'd be surprised if you need them.

Last week for four days both DS and DD were at a camp in CT. So I was an empty-nester for three full days. Aaaaaahhh....the house stayed so nice and clean during that time.

I would have definitely done more drinking and partying except that the day before the 4th of July I lost my footing in my driveway and re-sprained the ankle that had the surgery. I went outside to retrieve the garden hose and sprinkler and wasn't wearing my ankle brace and put on a pair of flip flops. I have a gravel driveway and the flip flops slipped on the stone and my ankle buckled.

I was in a panic all 4th of July weekend worrying I had damaged the surgically repaired ligaments.

Last week both my physical therapist and my podiatrist looked at the ankle and said the ligaments are fine - I just slightly sprained the ankle and lost about 10 days worth of physical therapy.

On a happier note......went to our first Mets game at Shea Stadium on Saturday. Usually we drive down to Philly to watch the Mets play since the drive is about the same amount of time and the Phillies play in a new stadium.

We had an absolute blast. But we were five rows from the top of the stadium and my ankle was quite sore by the end of the game from climbing up and down all those steps.

I'm not surprised the 8/17 and 8/21 cruises are selling out. With the Magic out in California, people don't want to spend the $$$ on airfare to get there. Plus those west coast cruises are incredibly expensive. Way better value for your money to take a shorter Wonder cruise.

Wow - five weeks to go!!!! :cool1:

DCL does send their docs awfully close to sailing date - like maybe 10 days before. But I believe if you are staying at WDW beforehand that they do send the docs before your WDW stay (especially if you are using the DCL bus from WDW to the port).

With online registration there really isn't much in the documents anymore. Just the Bahamas immigration form and the DCL bus transfer coupons. Oh, and the DCL airline luggage tags if you are using DCL transportation.

Boy, what wonderful weather we having in NJ lately.

I have overseas in-laws arriving on Monday for a two week stay. We're taking them to the Jersey shore in about 10 days for a week's stay. Really looking forward to that. Can't wait for sun, beach, ocean, tons of seafood and really fresh vegetables.

On the way there and back we stop at a farm stand that makes the BEST homemade pies I've ever had. I look forward to those pies all year. :cloud9:

hey ski- well we leave here on aug.15, and we are taking the auto train, so we will have our car,so we don't need to use the buses. i also did not book the land and sea through DCL. i only have 1 day land booked through Disney co. the other days are an exchange through our time share co.(Interval world). i already have my info from interval . i guess maybe i should call DCL and see if it can be here before the 15th.

well i hope you have fun down the shore- where are you going?? my sister wants to go to Point Pleasent on tuesday. hopefully the weather will be just as nice as this week.

bye for now,

We go all the way down to Cape May county (Avalon). We like the beaches in south Jersey better than the beaches in North Jersey. Though Point Pleasant is a nice beach.

Talk about having beach weather right now. What a great beach forecast for this weekend. My brother and family are heading to Wildwood on Sunday.

We could use some rain - I'm watering my flower beds right now.

Hi guys- when can we do the online reg. forms? I can't believe how fast the cruise is coming up! I've been so bad about reading lately but my summer has been crazier than usual. I've promised myself to be good about my pretrip report so you can click the link and have a read. Dh is more excited about the cruise than Disney and the Nick Hotel, can't say I blame him :thumbsup2 Any ideas on which movies will be shown? Dd said something about the Cheetah Girls movie premiering on Aug. 23rd so I was wondering if they'll show that.

16 of you! wow, that is going to be a great trip!
I figured there were more cruisers out there. We have been waiting for them to make their way here.

Brasey.....welcome...the late August DCL cruises are chock full of NY/NJ'ers so plenty of "loud" company :lmao:

That's great you got a large group to come. I always enjoy seeing the large groups sitting together in the dining room during dinner.

I tried to get my extended family to come but we couldn't agree on a sailing date.

Has someone tried to register online, yet? We might be able to by now. And I read on the main cruise page that the Bahamas immigration form can be done online now.

All new Disney movies are shown on the ship the same day they get released. They can't be shown on the jumbo screen on deck nine since that projector can only play DVDs and new releases come on reel tapes (learned that tidbit from a DCL cruise director).

Just watch out that it can be freezing in the theaters in the ships. Bring a sweater.

Well first hello to all...

welcome to the group brasey! Gonecrusin, i am getting jealous that you have your room information and i am still waiting. we booked our cruise feb 08 for catergory 12 and would love a fairy, angel, gnome, elf.. something to bless me with an upgrade. I think my kids would love to be able to look out of a window, actually mom would really love that too.. but since this is our first cruise.. i will take what i can get. Right now i have alot of jeoulous family members stating "oh must be nice to go on a cruise" i keep telling them i saved money. DONT HATE! I am not going to sit at home and wish i was doing something and let my life just go by. Geesh, what do you do with the complainers? :confused3

I am trying to make sure i get my oldest DS8 his birthday stuff hidden in the suitcase before he realizes it. i did contact DCL and told them he would be celebrating his birthday and they are going to celebrate it the 2nd nite at dinner. i am excited about that. DS will be so surprised and since we have another family traveling from New Rochelle, NY and DC (disney cousin) will be celebrating her 7th birthday on the same day, it should ROCK!

does anybody know how i get a disney birthday button for the ship? i know how to get one when we arrive at the wild animal kingdom resort on that Sunday afternoon, but not sure about the ship. I just wanted to make it know my baby boy who will be 9 is celebrating his birthday. :cheer2:

I filled out the forms for me and dd since I have our passports at home. dh needs to get his and ds today so I can finish it. I did notice that somewhere it said the forms need to be submitted 75 days prior to arrival? Then somewhere else is said 48 hours in advance BUT you can fill forms out when you get to port :confused3 They lost me! So do I just fill them out online, print what I need to do and bring it all?

I need to book our rental car today since we'll be going to the Nick Hotel after the cruise for a night. We booked a cat. 10 so I'm hoping for an upgrade :worship: If I *happen* to get one am I notified by email or phone? How do you find out that the ship is full?

Oh another question.... what is the best time to get there and is that based on what number boarding card you get? I lied, one more ques. popped into my head. I have UK citizenship but dh, dd and ds all have US passports. Think I need to bring anything extra like my Alien Reg. card?

I got my cabin # by checking my reservations on the DCL website (remember how I said I was keeping tabs on the occupancy ratio of the ship? Obsessive, I know. I actually haven't done that in a while. Maybe I'll do it today and report back. :lmao: )

Well, suddenly when I last checked my ressie, there was a cabin # next to stateroom. There had never been a cabin # before. I looked up the cabin # and it was for a cat 9!

Of course being the obsessive person that I am, I had completed online check in 75 days out. That might have something to do with it. They might not assign cabins until you check in. Although this is my first cruise so I really have no idea what I am talking about. ;)

I haven't gotten my cruise docs yet. I don't expect these for at least another week. The 8/17/08 cruise's docs were just sent so they'll be receiving them shortly and we should be next. (Alright, I admit -- I was following their Meet thread to get an idea of when we could expect things to happen cuz I figured we would be a week behind them. :lmao: It's that obsessive thing I keep talking about. I only use my obsessions for the good of my family and others -- oh and my job -- it actually helps that I am so thorough at work. And by work I mean when I am not posting on the Disboards but actually doing work!! :rotfl: )

Now if I could just find a way to get a grip on my new obsession --- trying to forecast the weather at Castaway Cay on August 23, 2008 -- then I could focus on packing --- or is it too soon for that? :rotfl2:

Hey all,

No cruise docs yet for either this cruise or my 8/17 cruise. But they will be shipped to my TA and then she'll have to contact me.

I don't think there's any time limit on when you can register online. I'll try doing it tonight.

The best place to have a DIS meet on the first day is 3pm at the Promenade Lounge. Its a big enough area with chairs and places to sit and its indoors in case its too hot to be outside. We can meet/greet each other then have plenty of time to head back to our staterooms for the lifeboat drill.

I'm not sure when there is an optimal time to get to the port. In the past we've taken DCL transportation so we arrive whenever the bus gets to the port. This year we'll be in Port Canaveral the night before so I think we'll be at the port by 10:30am.

Pierresgirl.....I would bring along your UK passport as well as your alien card just in case since it probably shows your US address.

Gonecruisin.....I'm an obsessive person myself.....so plenty of company on that one.

Brasey....my DD is 12 so she'll be in the 10-12 age group in the clubs.

Oh, you'll all like this one......I'm leaving tomorrow for a week at the Jersey shore. I had ordered some beach chairs that have wheels on them to make it easier to drag back and forth from the beach. The chairs just arrived via UPS a few minutes ago.

Talk about cutting it close.

That's pretty scary about the Wonder cruises being sold out next month. Wow.

Forget to mention about the birthday button......in the past we've gotten the birthday button at dinner on the night when we celebrated the birthday. We got a button as well as a pin plus a birthday cake. And the CMs all gather around the sing happy birthday.

I have a cute photo of the CMs singing to DD when we celebrated her birthday on the Magic. Her face was totally sunburned after a snorkeling excursion that day. :rolleyes1

Well I have done the registering thing, about 10 days ago, hope that my docs arrive before we leave! Got some magnetic tape to make door signs with, having trouble finding disney templates (you know where you can put your names on them and stuff?) Any ideas? :confused3

I'm up for a meet, what ski said sounds good to me. Be good for the kids to all get to know each other, then they won't feel out of place in the clubs.

I feel all jumbled up inside, I can't seem to think about anything other than this trip. It's so stressfull I shall need another holiday when I get home! Is anyone planning on taking any wine/beer onboard? I read in a trip report that it's ok to do that? Anyone have a clue? Not that I'm planning on drinking a lot! :rotfl:

The fish extenders are fabric pockets that DisMeet members put treats/toys/gifts in for fellow cruisers. This is pre-arranged, only the members participating distribute or receive gifts. It seems to be a 7 day cruise thing -- not many of the 3/4 night cruises do it. Too much work for too little time?

Threads that explain it and have pics.

Hi Sue, thanks for the heads up on the door magnet thang, found lotsa great stuff and I've even got into using paint on the pc, always one of those programs that has seemed a little like the holy grail, basically out of reach! But hey, I did our first sign today! Told the girls it is for when we go to Hardrock, and the number 6110 is our room number there! Apparantly, they have less chance of being stolen if your room number is on them! :confused3

My girls are Storm (aged 10) and Teigan (aged 6), they still have no idea about the cruise, omg! I can hardly hold my own water right now!

Gonecruisin, you're right on the money about the lack of time to do "fish extenders"! Sounds complicated, why doesn't everyone just buy themselves a present? I'll have a mojito! ;)

what's going on people. we are so close to our trip and i can't stand it. start packing clothes some and getting all prescriptions filled. Yesterday me and the kids hit the disney store to get sunglasses and mom a shirt that was 75% off. looked around the store for other cool stuff that was marked down and most of it was pajamas and those washclothes where you put in water and they expand to regular size. Only other thing I need to do is find the birthday button for kids to wear on ship ( if they want) and I am done!

Shawn- welcome aboard! congrats on winning a cruise, thats just awsome! boy i wish i could win something, but a cruise, i would have just freaked out!!
anyway.. i work with someone who recentley went on a cruise. he took a water taxi over to Atlantis. he was able to see the aquerium. but that was it. everything else he would have had to pay. he said there are 2 walk ways (one for those who have acces and the other one for people who dont).

Hi all,

My washer/dryer has been running continuously since Saturday night when we got back home from a week at the Jersey shore.

Had an amazing week. The ocean water was freeeezing.....temps in the 50s!!!!. Not joking about that. We had a few days when the temps crept above 60 degrees.

And lots and lots of fog drifting in off the cold ocean.

One afternoon a young girl had to be taken off the beach by the EMTs due to hypothermia.

We were able to swim because we all wore wet suits. In fact, I was wearing three wet suits - reminded me of when I ski and I'm all layered in clothing.

So we are really, really looking forward to warm ocean water at Castaway Cay.

I finally got my cruise docs yesterday. Yes, the first page is torn off. Don't know why DCL does that - it always panics people that something is missing.

Its true that most people on the shorter cruises don't do the fish extenders. You have to really plan that well in advance.

I bought some magnetic paper at Staples and will be working on my door signs this week.

Here's a picture of us on the Wonder last August.

Hi guys! I just got our doc's yesterday and some pirate stuff for the kids to wear. I just thought of something this morning- do the kids clubs have the little graduation ceremony on the 3 nighters? Hopefully they will- I know ds will love it.

Great door signs, Sue!

yikes!! i should be cleaning or something, i know but with 1 week left to go i am obsessed with the Dis boards right now!!

Leyla- yes- i did call the DCL a few times last week, that was 1 of my questions. it starts at 4:30 pm. she didnt know how long the ceremony was, so who know how that will effect us who have 1st seating???

Hi everyone,

We'll hold our DIS meet at the Promenade Lounge. Its on deck 3 on the way to the restaurant. Nice and comfy there and plenty of room.

Yes, you can make the kids' graduation and still make early dinner. The ceremony doesn't last too long. All the kids get a t-shirt and mortar board with Micky ears on them.

Oh, here's one piece of advice about printing out your door magnets. Double check the printer setting if you are printing out the design in landscape mode.

I forgot about that yesterday and wasted a sheet of magnet paper because the printer setting was set for portrait.

Ah laundry....the gift that keeps on giving...:laundy: ...I'm happy that we don't have to wash sheets/beach towels/bath towels when we get home.

Oh, speaking of towels......DCL provides beach towels at Castaway Cay and on their own excursions. The size is bigger than bath towels but not that much. So basically grab two towels for each person. You do go through a lot of towels on Castaway Cay since we're all constantly going in and out of the water.

And if you're snorkeling at Castaway Cay, pack several disposable underwater cameras. Lots and lots to look at in the snorkeling lagoon and you don't want to waste the $$$$ buying disposable cameras on the ship.

The only caution with the disposable underwater cameras is that they don't take great underwater pictures if its cloudy out. Not enough light. If the weather is sunny then you'll have great underwater pictures.

I can hardly believe we are boarding the ship in just two short weeks!! The wait has been painful. I am having a hard time focusing on anything else except the cruise. :worship: Pray for good weather!

Looking forward to the Promenade Lounge meet. I can't wait to see the little ones' excited faces! :)

Believe it or not, I can't think of a single question to ask anymore. The Dis has covered everything from excursions to tips to food porn!! Soooo glad I found the Dis! :thumbsup2

Hope everyone enjoys their pre-cruise vacations! :woohoo:

:cutie: Hello people,

I have been running around like some mad women trying to make sure I have everything that I need or should bring. Neospin, photo mats, fishing license holders, WII game system (okay that is for me, mom has been wanting one for awhile, now i just need the WII fit board, and i am good to go.) popcorn::

The holders are to be used either to hold fast passes when we get back from cruise for the parks . Since we will be parking hopping for 6 days. Not sure what to expect when we arrive at the port and get signed in. what will they give us? I did get some Laynards, to throw around the neck too, but really dont have a clue. I hope I dont forget all the stuff I have purchased in the last 6 months just for the trip. I was thinking about doing the bottle water thing, and then I said I already have two bags and one HUGE suitcase, I dont want to bother with 24 case of water, that nobody will drink that much of. and then i have to carry it back off the ship. :sad2:

my ds boys keep asking me are we leaving this weekend and i tell them, one more week to go and we start our road trip thru hilton head, SC and then to florida. The time is coming up quick.

I will make a note to meet at the promenade lounge to meet and greet.. hope i dont forget. but if not catch me by the pool with kids, because i think that's where i will be with feet in the water.. okay actually whole body in water.. soaking up disney life.

Gonecruisin, you are right.. i have spent more time reading everything on the many boards.. and looking at great pictures.. i really am speechless. Okay have to get back to work..because somebody has to pay the company bills. haha

just curious to know, what is there to do for single people. Even though I am traveling with cousins from New York, I dont want to be the third wheel. And even though I can't hang out late because of the ages of my kids, just wondering what fun i can have. I know there is the pool and the bar, but after reading so many reviews.. can't drink like an all inclusive, and my tan is actually quite nice already. haha

Plenty to do, don't worry.

There are "adult" activities during the day like wine tastings. You have to sign up for those. There are movies playing all the time in the Buena Vista theater plus movies shown on the TV in the stateroom.

The Quiet Cove cafe is a great place to hangout (though bring a sweater, its freezing in there). You can get specialty coffees and teas plus yummy pastries. You have to pay for the drinks.

There are fun family activities like bingo. Bingo is expensive, though.

You will be spending way too much time in Shutters looking through your pictures and deciding which ones to buy. There are also two clothing stores (one for kids/one for adults). There is an art auction as well and the art work is on display for you to look at.

Take time and just walk around the ship. Walk around on decks 4, 9 & 10. There are hidden Mickey's all over the ship.

Visit the rebooking desk so you get the 10% discount off your future cruise.

There is way too much to do on Castaway Cay - one visit per cruise isn't enough.

ski-and-sea,

thanks for the information. i guess i am just so excited to be going on my first cruise.. i can't stand it. I have also packed too many bags and we are driving from Va to orlando. I have the bag with all swimwear, floaters for the little one, etc. then i have my bag full of disney stuff, ie autograph books, pens, photo mats, door signs, and disney uno cards for the kids. then i have my backpack which will consist of all medicines, important paperwork, etc. i am going to try to narrow it down.. but right now even my suitcase is crying.. stop putting more stuff in me. I have packed long sleeve shirts, because this morning in Va the temp is 54 degrees, and we all had on our hoodies leaving the house. Making sure all shoes, flip flops, and sneakers are packed. Was thinking about buying a good book to read, but i am more of a poeple person.. and i dont think i want to read.. i wanna talk and party.

well back to work. p.s. has anybody been to hilton head, sc .. is there something i should really check out while we are there for two days before we hit orlando? also heard when you arrive in florida there is a store/place where you can get non-expensive disney stuff, ie magnets, shirts, etc. does anyone know where that perhaps is?

ok... i think my coutdown clock is way to fast... we leave in 3 days well 2 1/2. i wish it was 1 day!!!

:rotfl: Never heard of that one before :lmao:

Packing for a Disney trip is complicated.....that's why I have to rely on my packing lists. We, too, have a suitcase totally devoted to non-clothes stuff: all our snorkeling equipment, cameras/camcordes, suntan lotion stuff, door signs, etc. And all those darn rechargeable cords....man, I need a case just for that.

Its been on the chilly side here, too. Other than that heat wave in June, we really haven't had a hot summer. It was sweater weather on Monday. And the forecast for the rest of the week is rather cool, too. We could use some rain, though. Other than some sporadic showers, we haven't had a really heavy rain in a while. My lawn is getting yellow.

Its going to be a shock for us landing in Florida and an even bigger shock swimming in very warm ocean waters. Don't mind that kind of shock.

There is a Disney store in the Orlando airport.

Tomorrow I see the foot doctor for a follow up. My foot was very sore and stiff from the week at the Jersey shore. My therapist tortured me last week and today and the ankle is finally starting to loosen up. I anticipate being able to dance with no problems on the ship.

My only concern is that the foot is still swollen enough that I can't fit into my dress shoes. So I'll be the one going around barefoot all the time.

Got a facial today so I'm all set for next week.

We fly out on Saturday.

i hope you ankle will feel ok on both cruises! i know what you mean about shock, with swimming in the water, can't wait for a blue ocean. i thought Myrtle beach was supposed to be nice and clear, but it looked just like the Jersy shore.

Not that these things are perfect, but.. click here:

and then click the 'animate' button..
Thurs 21st through Sun the 24th still a little hard to predict, but as you can see there's this ugly 'red' thing predicted to run through the antilles, puerto rico, cuba.. and, you never know where it might turn (besides, if it really goes where predicted, check out the 26-27th.. new orleans is in trouble!)

But.. i'm sure it'll be fine. It's vacation, so, no matter what I'm going to have fun. =)

Well, I just finished my door signs. I cleaned all our snorkeling goggles. And I just realized DD's flippers may not fit anymore (darn those kids growing - sheesh). We bring all our own snorkeling equipments as we do a lot of snorkeling on our cruises.

Tomorrow I have to take the kids shoe shopping as I realized their dress shoes don't fit anymore. Found that one out at their spring music concert when they went to put their shoes on and both groaned with pain as the shoes were too small.

Regarding the possible hurricane.....the system doesn't even have a name, yet. I think people are counting chickens before the eggs are even laid. Last year at this time we had a large hurricane that looked like it might hit the Bahamas and instead turned south toward Mexico.

So I think its a terrible waste of energy to be worrying about it.

Worst case scenario is that we miss either Nassau or Castaway Cay. Then the ship might sail to Key West instead. But at least we'll be onboard and having a blast no matter where we sail.

I start my packing tomorrow. Wash all the clothes and put them straight into the suitcases.

Car picks us up at 10:30am on Saturday.

But, I think we're gonna be great 21-24th.. nothing on the maps but clear so far

Hey all,

Signing off now. We're leaving in the morning. Mostly everything is packed except for what we need in the morning.

I've triple checked the packing lists and still feel like I've missed something. Oh well.

Yes, good news on tropical storm Fay. Sounds like we'll be in the clear and we'll be sipping our tropical drinks on Castaway Cay as planned.

See you all onboard at the promenade lounge at 3pm on Thursday.

Hi Divep.

Wish you were going on the 8/21 sailing --- the waiting is the hardest part (I think Tom Petty said that! :lmao: )

Unfortunately your meet thread for the 9/14 Wonder is http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1695934. You have a great time. Check back here on 8/25 and we'll give you updates from our cruise and answer any of your questions!

Happy sailing!

Hello?

Has everybody already left for FLA? I know Sea-n-ski, pierresgirl and postalcop have flown the coop already. :sad1:
Anybody still on the boards?

I know booger doesn't leave til Tues. Hope Fay doesn't create any travels probs for you and your family. :wizard:

Looks like I'll be very lonely til embarkment on 8/21.

divep!!! Come back!!!! :rotfl:

Leaving tomorrow morning... hopefully.. 9am flight, which, is certainly playing with Fay.. but, we'll see.

I see the port's closed from Tues noon to reopen Thursday morning.. hopefully there's not a wrench in the plans. Was going to go to NASA Wed, but, will probably miss.. will probably catch it after cruise/before AKV.

booger, safe trip to you and your family. This is nerve wracking, isn't it? Everyone keeps telling me not to worry, but they haven't been anticipating this cruise for 6 months. :sad1:

I'll feel so much better once we're onboard and they set sail.

If ever there was a need for some pixie dust, it's now. pixiedust:

See you on the Wonder!!!!!

We're sittin' here in Port Canaveral at the Residence Inn Marriott... :)

I hope we don't get the boomerang effect on Fay with it going out and coming right back in.. but, I guess we'll see.

The Booger Family made safely it to FLA!!!!! Hip, Hip, Hooray!!

That is good news. I may not be as lucky. My flight leaves 6:30 am on 8/21. SW cancelled lots of flights to MCO today and the forecast doesn't show Fay leaving anytime soon.

I would love for Sea-n-ski to post from the Wonder to see how they are faring.

I have this overwhelming feeling of impending doom. This may be the cruise that wasn't. (sigh)

Nobody's posted recently on the 8/17 wonder trip - i had checked that board just in case, like you said..

We're safe.. thanks much :) :)

Even if the cruise is a wash, we do have a week at AKV afterwards.. so that should be fun at least.. just in time for the 94L invest, I believe too... hahah.. I was just telling the wife that we may have to start making Jun/July travel plans from now on...

We'll see.. like someone else said, I think the biggest part is getting down to MCO.. from there I think they'll get us on the wonder.. be it at Canaveral, or at Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale

Maybe you should check and see if you can get a Wed night flight in just in case?

Well, my friend, your stormrisk website has Fay turning into a cat 1 hurricane Wed evening through Thurs evening. I don't think SW will fly my plane through that to MCO. I am seriously doubting that I will make it to FLA at all. You stay safe. I am going to have a good cry.

I am on the 8/17 Wonder..and also on the 8/21 Wonder. Since our niece is joining us for the second cruise, I have been following the storm closely. We finally decided to go to Guest Services today and inquire on what they were thinking/planning. SO FAR, their information gives them the impression that Fay won't alter our ability to reach Port Canveral or to leave again on Thursday. Also, according to the Southwest website (my niece is flying SW from Buffalo to Orlando on Thur morning), they are expecting to resume service on Wed morning.

I'm doing my best to think good thoughts.

I hope everyone makes it to the ship.

Jess

:surfweb:
MCO is open?
SW hasn't cancelled any flights today?
In fact all of their flights from Prov to MCO have arrived on time.

And now they are saying Fay will not reach hurricane status --- will stay a TS?

AND DCL has assured me that if I get to MCO, they will get me to the Wonder -- no matter where in FLA it is docked.

:rolleyes1 ummmm.... I may have been a little overly dramatic yesterday. Abandoning all hope was really uncalled for. One should never post hysterical comments when in a state of panic. I know that now. Sorry.

So... Guess I can repack that lightup Pirate saber and plastic parrot. :yay:

Tropical Weather Update

As of August 20, 2008

We are currently monitoring Tropical Storm Fay very closely.

Tropical Storm Fay has stalled along the eastern portion of Florida near our homeport of Port Canaveral and its path is uncertain.

For this reason, Port Canaveral has been closed to vessel traffic by the Port Authority and the August 21, 2008 sailing of the Disney Wonder will set sail on its 3-night itinerary from Fort Lauderdale, Florida — Port Everglades.

Other than the departure port change, we do not anticipate any additional changes in the upcoming Disney Wonder itinerary. Transportation will be provided for guests with transfers and those arriving by private vehicle at Port Canaveral. It is important that guests still park at our terminal in Port Canaveral as the ship will be returning there on Sunday, August 24, 2008.

The Disney Magic is currently on a 15-night Panama Canal voyage and is scheduled to return to Port Canaveral on Monday, September 1, 2008.

The safety and security of our guests and crew members is always our top priority, and we monitor the weather very closely. If necessary, our Captains are always prepared to alter the ships' courses or itinerary to navigate away from inclement weather.
