I was kinda sniffling and DH worked really hard to cheer me up by telling me all the fun things we were going to do that day.

AWWWWW!!!

DH leaned over and whispered, “Thank you for all your planning - we have had the perfect trip.”

AWWWWWWW!!!

DH decided we should wish that the honeymoon will never end.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

Looking forward to the next installment!

Caught up again. I can't believe your TR is nearly over. Looking forward to hearing about your at home reception. I'm sorry you are still having problems with the MK photoshoot photos.

Oh and we have the same name, even same spelling!

Hey, cool! Glad you're enjoying the report!

I love your Scooby Doo reference!

Oh I'm so glad you got that - as I was typing I was thinking "Gee, this is going the long way around the barn for a gag...." :cutie:

Carrie, everyone is coming to Disney the last week of September to meet YOU.

Well I hope they like eating, mugging for photos, and more eating, cuz that's what I plan to do! :rotfl:

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

When I saw your post, I remembered how lucky I am to have DH... either that, or he sure is a smoooooth talker! :rotfl2:

Caught up again. I can't believe your TR is nearly over.

Me neither :sad2: Maybe I can make up some "lost" honeymoon adventures to tell about the way authors of book series do when their characters get too old! :thumbsup2

Lurkyloo,

First off, let me say thanks again for providing us your BEO! It was really helpful and gave us some insight on how to, um, "finaggle" things around to keep costs low for our wedding.:thumbsup2

Secondly, after two days of reading here at work, I finally made it through your entire report start to finish. It's fantastic!::yes:: You guys had a beautiful wedding and it looks like a blast on the honeymoon. I hope our wedding will be as wonderful as yours; feel free to bless us with your expertise in our PJ as time goes on! Maybe you should start a separate Disney-Bride consulting side business.;)

Can't wait to hear about the at-home reception. Chocolate frosting....mmm....:hyper: :woohoo:

Carrie! I almost missed this installment! I noticed people talking about things I hadn't heard about yet and went and looked. :scared1:

That would have been criminal!

Cat face! (That caused me to beam too. :lovestruc  )
You two have to be the most photogenic people. Every time I see your smiling faces, I can't help but smile too (and I am the grumpiest person alive, darnit!).

And I know what you mean about cats. I'm always worried about what I'm going to find when I get home. The resentment isn't there. They're around you 24/7 for three or four days, and you're like, Wow! I should go away more often! :D And then it ends.

SOOO Cute! I love Wazzo! But I have to make a confession... I swiped that cat pic from the Internets!!! :guilty: Dr. J would never let me get that close to him with a camera. He knows the sound of it turning on, and he stays really cute till the last possible second, then messes up his pose when then shutter clicks :lmao:

and you're like, Wow! I should go away more often! :D And then it ends.

Totally! I do notice that the longer I'm gone, the longer it lasts. He was nice to me for at least 2 days when we got back from being gone 2 weeks. :cat:

If you'll help plan my vow renewal in 11 years for my 25th! ;)

Deal! :thumbsup2

Totally OT question here, but since a few of you are from the LA area, I'll ask (I'm having no luck with my thread on the community board):

I'm going to a wedding in LA this weekend. My mom is flying in and meeting me there and we'll be on our own. We land about 9pm tonight and we'll be driving from the Burbank airport (Bob Hope) to the Sheraton Universal. It's only a few miles and I have a good sense of direction and am well-traveled. My only question is, every map program I look at tells me to take Cahuega rather than go around on the freeway. Is that a safe neighborhood to drive through at night? I'm not paranoid, just don't know the area. If it's cool, I'll follow the map. If you guys think that's a bad idea, we'll go around.

Sorry for the interruption!

lurkyloo
05-30-2008, 03:31 PM
Follow that map!

The reason they don't put you on the freeway is that you can't get onto the 101 south from the 134 West, which is the way you'd be going. You'd have to keep going on the 134 til you could turn around and might accidentally end up in Ventura! :rotfl:

Cahuenga cuts through North Hollywood, which isn't the most glamourous part of town, but it's a straight shot from Bob Hope and it's not like you're going to be carjacked at a stoplight.

Happy travels! :goodvibes

Draw away! My goal is to demystify the whole process and share the things that worked or didn't work for me to help future brides.
I apologize in advance if the answer to the following question is in your planning journal, but I haven't gotten that far yet. Where did you get your gold shoes? I love them!

That would be cool! It seems like a lot of DISers will be there then (although you get to be there all the time!)...maybe we should organize a meet?

You know thats a good idea... it could be the "meet your favorite bride, lurkyloo" dismeet! :) Anyone interested?

I got them on clearance from www.piperlime.com. Their regular prices are pretty spendy, but they have great sales and free shipping! The shoes were actually silver - but I'm glad they looked gold to you b/c that means they matched my earrings and necklace! :lmao:

The brand is Mia, which I'd never heard of before... I think they make those cheap shoes you get at Delia's and Urban Outfitters, etc.

Oh boy, I'm gonna have to make it good - at this point, eight batches of frosting isn't enough to hang an entire installment of the trippie on.... :rotfl:

I'm going to see if DH feels like doing a little tutorial we can post online. The trick is to get the slits in the right place on the ball cap. Then you just push the metal tabs through and cover them with felt.

More trippie on the way... ! ;)

That would be awesome!

OK, no video tutorial on the mouse ears yet, but I do have....

Gratuitous Rootography Wedding Pix from Japan! :rotfl:

A little birdie told me Wazzo wanted to see a Japan wedding photographed by the Roots, so I dug up a bunch of pictures they took their before our wedding that I haven't posted yet. And I might just throw in a few I have....!

The amazing thing to me is that the gorgeous waterfall in Japan was behind construction walls that day, and they STILL got fabulous pictures!

Oh boy! Glad you liked my desperate attempt to coax more life out of my trip report - er, I mean, glad you liked the photos! :rotfl:

It was very misty that morning, which the Roots said they loved. I guess it makes for good pictures. Originally we had France scheduled for photos, but I cut it cuz I was worried we wouldn't have enough time in Morocco. As it turned out, we had extra time, so now I wish we'd taken pix in France too. I can only imagine how lovely those would have been...:cloud9:

Hi Carrie! I stumbled on your TR and read your whole PJ this week, and am now working on your wedding report. You guys seem like so much fun - Muppets & Jobim are two of my favorite things (my favorite song of all time is Jobim's "Desafinado")! And the colors at your wedding are just gorgeous. I have to admit I spent a big chunk of time looking through the Roots blog as well thanks to your report. I am looking forward to reading more and just wanted to take a moment to tell you have lovely your wedding was, how creative you are and how much I am enjoying your report. (I actually work for a children's television network and have experience with Muppets too - a few weeks ago I met Oscar the Grouch and almost died of excitement).

OK, just to drag this trippie out a little longer, here's what happened on our first day back in the real world!

We got in pretty late Saturday night, so we took Sunday to recover and catch up on everything we'd missed during the 2 weeks we were away. This meant sleeping til we woke up, doing 4 suitcases' worth of laundry, sorting through a HUGE stack of mail, and peeling the cat off us at every turn.

As a testament to the miracles wrought by Patricia LeJeune and Nathan & Jensey Root, here's Lurkyloo before and after....

I just got caught up on your TR and Carrie your pictures are so beautiful in Japan!!! I love the ones in the garden and the squirrel! How come you can't guarentee him there for the rest of us brides?? :rotfl:

Thanks for extending your TR and I look forward to your reception and October TR's!

I know I am so behind everyone else... but can I also get a copy of your BEO? I am trying to plan my budget and I think it could be really helpful. :)

OK, if you are reeeeeeeeally bored and have 61 minutes and 15 seconds of your life to spare, you can now view our entire wedding video online!

The resolution is not the greatest, but I found Blip.tv's to be better than Viddler's, and it let me upload the whole video as one clip.

You can pre-load it by pausing after a few seconds and waiting for the gray bar to extend all the way to the book icon. It takes about 10 or 15 minutes minutes to pre-load, but that way it won't hang up in the middle and you can fast-forward through the boring parts!

I picked all the music for the full-length video, so it's my fault that the processional kinda drags a bit - I insisted that our videographer let the entire song play out for DH and for me, so I'm sure she was like "Great - guess I'll fill the time with crowd shots"! But I'm glad to have the full songs on the video...

Carrie - not sure if I have ever said "hi" but I have been lurking from time to time when I have time. I have just finished watching your video over the past few days, 10 minutes at a time. I got SO addicted to it. Such a beautiful and different wedding. And can I say? You were STUNNING that day!

Things I loved:
- the "old" pics of (someone's mom and dad marrying?) mixed in
- your east coast swing with your DH outside at the attic (we are dancers :) )
- the locket
- the teal jewelry
- the cake
- the chair ribbons
- how absolutely happy and in love you both looked the whole time. So comfortable with each other.

Now, as I am addicted, I have to go back and read the planning journal, then all of this wedding report. I am so looking forward to this little diversion.

At long last.... the account of our at-home reception!

Well I hope the delay in recounting our at-home reception hasn’t built up any hopes that it will be as exciting as our actual wedding! I’m sorry it took me so long to get around to telling the story, but to give you an idea of my priorities, I still haven’t finished our wedding photo album…

Probably from the moment we announced we were getting married at Walt Disney World, we planned to have an at-home reception for those who couldn’t be at the wedding. I think they are a great idea and free you to have the kind of wedding you want while still giving all your friends and family a chance to celebrate with you.

Ours was held in DH’s hometown in the Bay Area of California. He has a huge family, and almost all of them live in Northern California, so the party was basically for them. I know some couples do a full-on reception with bridal attire, catering and a DJ, but after planning our spectacle of a wedding in about 5 months, I was completely uninterested in planning anything else.

So when DH’s parents offered to host it as our wedding gift, we let them do what they wanted – which turned out to be an open house with a sort of potluck. I wore my wedding necklace because so many people had asked to see it, but otherwise it was extremely casual – which was perfect!

The party ran from 1pm to 6pm on a Saturday about 2 months after our wedding, and we sent out combo wedding announcement/reception invites on the day after we got married (a huge etiquette no-no, but man was it convenient!).

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Planning%20Journal/IMG_4960.jpg

We encouraged people to drop in whenever they wanted and stay however long they wanted, so we didn’t really have a schedule other than cutting the cake at some point. It was quite convivial and felt easy and fun rather than “let’s meet the entire fambly” scary!

We had our wedding video playing on a loop in one room, and I was surprised how many people who arrived in the middle sat through the cycle to see the whole thing.

Even guys watched it!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Carriatrickaversary/DSC_0097.jpg

Even more popular were the softcover Blurb books I’d made of our wedding photos. We made one for each grandma and passed them around during the party. Tthe grandmas got their books at the end of the night and proceeded to share them with anyone who crossed their paths: bridge partners, hair dressers, the meter reader... :rotfl: ). People seemed to love being able to look at actual printed photos instead of the ones we had in a slideshow on DH’s laptop, and we had people ask us how to get started using Blurb.

DH’s parents made a few crockpot dishes and put out sandwich fixings, and people brought desserts. We used leftover paper goods from our engagement party, which the hostess bought in our wedding colors – awwww!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/DSC_0091.jpg

My contribution was an attempt at re-creating my parents’ wedding cake, which my aunt made them as a three-tiered version of the popular family birthday cake (a Ghirardelli milk chocolate cake with milk chocolate frosting!). I watched a video about making tiered cakes on YouTube, bought a Martha Stewart cake turntable, ordered all the other supplies I’d need from a professional cake-baking website, and thought I knew all I needed to know….

What eight batches of frosting looks like!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/DSC_0040.jpg

Wheee! This’ll be a piece of cake (yukk, yukk, yukk!)….

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/DSC_0052.jpg

Except, as it turns out, you have to be REEEEEEALLY precise when you cut the cake into layers and stack them, or else you get this:

So…. maybe some of you know how it feels to try to draw a pretty picture you have in your mind when you have absolutely no artistic ability….? It was pretty much just like that.

This was the inspiration…

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/mom6copy.jpg

And this was the cold, harsh reality….

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/DSC_0073.jpg

To add insult to injury, the dang thing actually started collapsing before the party started! We had to spackle over the Grand Canyon with extra frosting…. I guess drinking straws really aren’t a good substitute for wooden dowels when you’re making a layer cake. Fortunately, it tasted really good!

At the party, we used our special wedding cake knife for the cake-cutting and displayed pictures of our parents’ cake-cuttings and the one from our wedding.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Carriatrickaversary/DSC_0111.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Carriatrickaversary/DSC_0112.jpg

One of the really nice things about the party was getting to meet all the family and friends I’d heard DH talk about over the years, including some of his former teachers and even school librarians! They had such glowing things to say about him.

We were shocked, too, by how generous everyone was. In fact, his grandma decided we needed to open gifts right then and there because so many people had brought them. It was really fun, and quite touching to be shown so much love by people I’d never met!

I admit I was a little scared how the at-home reception would turn out without me micromanaging everything, but in the end it was just perfect – a fun, relaxed opportunity to get to know people and share our excitement with them. I highly recommend the idea to anyone having a destination wedding! :thumbsup2

One last story to tag on to the end of my wedding trip report....

Our wedding got two pages in a national bridal magazine!

:hyper: EEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeee! :faint:

We're in the annual issue of Destination Weddings & Honeymoons magazine - a national publication that you can buy in the supermarket and everything! (take THAT, Disney Haters! :cool2: )

It came out Dec. 30 and will be on stands until March 30, 2009. If you can't find a copy, it's because I bought it! :rotfl:

It's been in our family for generations - ever since someone lifted it off the back of a Ghirardelli box. I'll bet it's on the Internet somewhere, but I'll post it here too!

Hayward Chocolate Cake

Preheat oven to 350. Line layer pans with wax paper. Grease sides.

7 Tablespoons Ghirardelli chocolate
5 Tablespoons hot water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3 egg yolks beaten in one at a time
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
3 beaten egg whites

Add ingredients with mixer in order given, except egg whites. Mix well with beaters. Fold in egg whites (beaten stiff) gently, but be sure they are mixed in well.

Bake 25-30 minutes at 350.

Icing

2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine
2/3 cups Ghirardelli chocolate
Hot water – add by drops until creamy

I don't think this makes enough frosting, so I worked out....

Bigger Batch of Icing:

5 cups powdered sugar
2 1/2 sticks butter
1 2/3 cups Ghirardelli chocolate

I think I made eight of those and three batches of batter to make the layer cake. :thumbsup2

First of all, I love this shot, it's hilarious! :rotfl:

Second, did Patrick get this shirt at WDW? I love it! :thumbsup2

Yes! In the Mexico Pavilion, and they still had them when we were there last week! :goodvibes

Oh! That cake! It was so yummy! And now I WANT IT!! I am, alas, to lazy to bake it! Think of a way for me to bribe you into making it for my next visit, will ya? Or a birthday, or something! Make it a good bribe tho, that cake was FAN-tab-ulous!

Also, is it really bad that I want the TR for your latest WDW trip, like now? That's bad, right? I'm asking too much, aren't I?

Yeah, so I went back and watched your wedding video...again! What can I say, I'm a sucker for a romantic movie! My DH was laughing at me for spending an hour watching a wedding video that wasn't ours (we didn't even do a vid!) but, pointed out that he looked swanky...and I agreed, so he stopped thinking me odd!

Our wedding photographers just let us know that the magazine that ran a story about our wedding, Destination Weddings & Honeymoons, is featuring us as "Wedding of the Week" on their website. (Talk about re-purposing content! :lmao:)

The cool part is, they're using pictures and info that they didn't run in the magazine article - 10 pages' worth!

My favorite part is the teaser on the magazine's homepage: "Disney weddings aren't all Mickey Mouse and princess-themed. Check out this colorful and festive affair at Epcot's Morocco Pavilion." :rotfl:

Thank you, Carrie!

First, your video is making me CRY and your mom is so beautiful and you look so much like her! (except for your hair! ;) ) Gorgeous!!

You will forever be the inspiration for

brides who want a Disney wedding and don't want to overspend
brides who want a Disney wedding and want ti give it a personal touch instead of following the usual "themes"
brides who want a Disney wedding but who need to "convince" family members it won't be (as you said) "Mickey marrying you"

I have gotten so many wonderful ideas for decor from you (one lesson I learned: simplify, simplify, simplify - wasn't that Thoreau? hmm) and I have also learned so many practical tips and I am so excited you have it all in a book to share!

My mom stalked every magazine stand until we found your magazine! I will have to post a pic of us all reading it! It is just amazing! And it really got us all "in the mood" for the Disney wedding festivities. Elegant and fun!

Thank you for your gratuitous pictures and your patience in posting every last detail. It is VERY helpful!

Miss you!

Hi Carrie. I loved the wedding video (I'm paused right now halfway through). I'm a sappy romantic type of a guy who loves seeing all things Disney, and I think that was the first wedding video I watched online. What a cool pastor/officiant he was; I really enjoyed watching the ceremony, especially the scripture reading. Tossing the rose pedal up in the air afterwards was funny and a nice touch for the videographer to catch it. :rotfl: Have a great and blessed marriage!

I am staying Concierge and they do offer to book it but I want to make sure its done right!. Thanks

............After the fireworks we dashed downstairs and along the path to the Magic Kingdom to catch SpectroMagic. Neither of us had ever seen it and we’d heard sooo much about it (well, OK, Tour Guide Mike goes on about it constantly). We staked out a spot in Liberty Square and pretended that the CMs pushing carts full of light-up necklaces were the first floats of the parade. While we waited we got a call from the Roots, who wanted to do another photo shoot with us, this time inside the parks. We made plans to meet them in Celebration for breakfast the following Tuesday and then hit Magic Kingdom, and Jensey told us her favorite place to watch SpectroMagic (which isn’t Liberty Square – whoops!).

So the parade came by, and Cinderella pointed to our bride & groom ears and wished us congratulations, but…. I don’t get the big deal (no flames, please). I’m not a huge parade fan, but I guess I thought Spectro would be different cuz of all the lights. Maybe someone can esplain it to me….

I think it's because you're from Disneyland, you must have seen the Main Street Electrical Parade either on Main Street where it belongs or at California Adventure. I'm giving SpectroMagic one last chance in a couple of months, if it doesn't grab me this time, I give up. Heck, I don't even bother to head over to DCA to see the Electrical Parade.

Yes! I booked mine all at once, over the phone, and I asked them to note our honeymoon in every reservation. You can also do this yourself if you book online, but since you have the services of the Concierge, just tell them to note it when they make your ADRs. I have to warn you, though, these days if you want the restaurant to make a big deal about your celebration, you really have to play it up - we wore T-shirts, the buttons, and the ears. Right now everybody is celebrating something, so it's hard to stand out! :rotfl:

:rotfl2: That's exactly it! And I'm the same way - when I'm at Disneyland, I don't want to have to leave to go to DCA just for the Electrical Parade, so I never see it.

Carrie, I'm sure this is in your report somewhere, but who was your officiant, if you don't mind sharing? He looks like he's having a ton of fun in the pictures!!

PS..I LOVED reading all about your wedding. It was beautiful! Stick around, because in a year or two I may need the help!

No problem! Our officiant was DH's childhood pastor - we flew him out to Florida to officiate, and it was one of the best decisions we made. As you noticed, he has a great sense of humor, and the service was so completely personalized - it was wonderful!

That is so awesome! My friend is on his way to the priesthood, and this is the route we would go as well if he's ordained by then! (I just may have to wait! :rotfl:)

2 Haunted Mansions in one day! WoW!!!!

I keep thinking about hitting Hollywood Studios and grabbing the first fast pass possible for Toy Story, then heading out to California Adventure and trying to use it there!

Won't be possible until they extend the hours at California Adventure, but a girl can dream can't she?

for some reason i cant post on your wedding crasher thread... oh well, i will say what i want to say on here!

for the last few weekends, i have been reading through your trippies, and my oh my, you are one funnnneeeeeeeeeeii lady! i have been HOOKED! i esp love the part where you spent a day or two with Jensen, and the photos you too were soo funny! note to myself, when ever reading your trippies i must not have any liquids present- ahem, seeing that photo that you took with the caption that went something like 'this is what i see when i am hungry' - the photo of the cake head man, made me laugh so much, my mouthful of tea was spat through many holes in my face, which ended in a choking fit, mixed with laughter! :rotfl: you look so beautiful in those b&w photos- like the ones with the crazy hat! The shots of you in the shops, the stories of you crashing weddings, taking photos of the carpets, the shots of you in the resturants... all i can say is .... you looked like you had such a blast- if i ever get the chance to meet you one fine day in Disney, then i would jump at the chance to hang out in the parks because you would have me laughing all day long! i love how you write your tr's! you are TOO GOOD- do ya hear me?! TOO GOOD!

Im sure i have written about your wedding trippie too, if i havent- WOW. Enough said!

This is an old thread that hasn't been replied on in quite some time but I just looked at the wedding pics and plans and I had to comment. Your wedding looked SO beautiful. You and your husband look so amazing together and the pictures are everything wedding pictures should be; sweet, classy, and romantic with a splash of fun. Definitely looks like a fairy tale come true which is so refreshing to see! I must say - I am envious and can only hope that some day I have something as magical as you two. CONGRATS!! (Even if it's a couple of years late) and may you have a wonderful life together. I'll definitely be following your other trip reports; you just make it so much fun!

That's a fabulous idea! Oh wait, except they don't have FASTPASS at Toy Story Mania in DCA—d'oh! But you could still do it, even if you had to wait in line, as long as you were in line at park closing.

Well since this thing is still open, I thought you guys might be interested in a few wedding-related updates.

Finished Wedding Album
I finally finished our wedding album at Christmas—yes, almost 2 years after the wedding! I laid it out in Photoshop and uploaded a PDF to Blurb.com. You can see an onscreen preview of the almost the whole dang thing here:

http://www.blurb.com/books/996943

Gown Preservation
I also did a ton of research on how to preserve my dress. I did it myself for just the cost of acid-free tissue and a Sterlite storage box (which I'd read somewhere was the same kind of plastic used by preservationists).

First I had the dress cleaned at my local "green" dry cleaner (not sure how much of that I believe). I got a Sterlite box from the hardware store—you can also use an acid-free cardboard box (with NO printed decorations on it), but I wanted something waterproof.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Gown%20Preservation/IMG_0486.jpg

I wore cotton gloves any time I touched the dress so I wouldn't get oil on it.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Gown%20Preservation/IMG_0488.jpg

I lined the box with acid-free tissue I got from Archival Methods (http://www.archivalmethods.com/).

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Gown%20Preservation/IMG_0489.jpg

Then I laid my dress on a layer of tissue on top of a cotton sheet on the bed, stuffed the bodice with crumpled tissue to preserve its shape (it has boning), and the tucked the end of the train in up near the bodice.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Gown%20Preservation/IMG_0496.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Gown%20Preservation/IMG_0494.jpg

Then I tucked the sides of the skirt in and brought the edges of the tissue up over them.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Gown%20Preservation/IMG_0498.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Gown%20Preservation/IMG_0500.jpg

Then I folded the wrapped dress loosely in thirds so it would fit in the box (basically the only structure in it was the boning in the bodice, so I found a box that would accommodate the dress without bending the boning. There were no sequins or other decoration that would be harmed by folding).

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Gown%20Preservation/IMG_0503.jpg

I set the whole thing in the box with the bodice on top and unfolded, then tucked more tissue around it before I closed it up.

Yes, that's residual dirt on the underside of the hem... sigh...

Great job on the gown preservation! Here are a couple more tips I picked along the way in my museum career:

1. Maybe once a year, or once every other year, you may want to consider re-folding your dress and repacking it, so the creases don't set in one place over time. Maybe it could be a fun excuse to reminisce about your dress on your anniversary each year;

and

2. Since your box is translucent, do try to keep it somewhere out of direct sunlight. I know it's not likely that you would keep a packed-up box where it would get sun, but thought I'd suggest it just as a precaution. Sunlight can fade dark fabrics of course, but it can also discolor white/light ones, especially the parts of the dress nearest the exterior of the box.

Oh yeah; here's another: You know those little packets of dessicant that come inside shoe boxes that keep new shoes dry during shipping? If you collect a few over time, you might want to tuck them into the corners of your storage box. They can help keep humidity at bay! Curators pay big bucks for quantities of that stuff from archival suppliers!

Gee, you make me long for my white glove days when I was a museum curator. I'm doing a stint now as a stay-at-home-mom (SAHM, as I recently learned the online abbreviation for!), but maybe someday...

Thank you so much for those tips! I read so many conflicting opinions online that I wasn't sure I'd chosen the best method. I'll definitely follow your instructions—and I love the idea of re-folding it every year on our anniversary! :thumbsup2

Carrie - I love that you were brave enough to preserve your own gown like this. I may have to try it with mine. It still hasn't been cleaned 9 months later :rolleyes1 and is hanging in the kids closet. Not exactly the safest environment.

I suppose that I will have to get around to cleaning it and I think I am going to try your method!

After brunch we had our parents’ dances. I let my dad pick the song we danced to, since he’s as into music as I am and he did have to dance to it after all. He picked one of his all-time favorite songs, an up-tempo jazz song by David Sanborn. It was really cute – he loves to cut out and send me articles, especially about musicians, so I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised that when we started our sentimental father-daughter dance the first thing he said was, “I just read this great article about David Sanborn!” We had tried practicing once, at Christmas, but I was still a bit nervous because he was a champion cha-cha dancer in high school and I only know swing. Fortunately he has a strong lead, so I think we did OK.

I’m so glad we danced before DH and his mom, because they would have been a tough act to follow. Neither really dances (well, DH can swing!), so they put on the Muppets’ “Movin’ Right Along” and improvised. They brought down the house!

After the dances we asked everyone to put on their mouse ears, and we got a shot of all our guests.

I was ready to cut the cake after that, but my WP said we were a little ahead of schedule so we decided to wait. Waiting for cake is hard. When I couldn’t wait any longer, I asked the servers if we could do it, and my WP magically reappeared to get the ball rolling. Somebody told us where to stand and whose hand was supposed to go where – who knew it was such a production? They handed us our pieces on a plate and I was like, “Uh, where’re the forks?” They found us some forks, and we each ate our own pieces – which got a huge reaction. We didn’t mean for it to be a big statement, we’re just creeped out by the feeding/smashing thing. Later, DH’s grandmother came up to us and said very sincerely, “Thank you for not smashing cake into each other’s faces. I think it’s barbaric!” Then we had to wait for them to cut the real pieces and put the ice cream on. I don’t know if it was the addition of ice cream or the flavors we chose (red velvet with cream cheese and chocolate with peanut butter cup mousse), but the cake disappeared fast!

After the cake cutting we still had an entire hour to hang out with our guests. We were ecstatic to discover that Nathan & Jensey had already put together a slideshow of photo highlights, which we must’ve watched three or four times.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Wedding%20Pix/1334_2904J.jpg

Except for the pastor, who had to catch a plane, everyone stayed till the end of the reception (but that’s prolly because the only way they could leave was on our bus… mwaahahahahahaha!). The staff gathered up our guest book, cake knife, gifts, extra cake and cake topper and put them back in our box by the door. I asked about having bell services schlep our stuff to the Beach Club (I’d read about a bride having them move stuff from Atlantic Dance Hall to BoardWalk Inn) but was told they couldn’t leave the resort, so my in-laws graciously offered to take it to the Beach Club after the bus dropped them at their car. I cast a longing eye on the thousands of remaining unopened sodas, but I didn’t want to make anybody carry all that.

I'm obviously incredibly late to this party, but I just wanted to say I LOVE this last photo- knowing your mom's photo is in your locket just makes this shot so special. Congrats (2 years later!) on your marriage!

THANK YOU for the link. The Glad I did/Wished I'd done was also very helpful.
Quick Question for you, do you feel like you went to Florida early enough before the big day? To early? I'm trying to decide when we should actually arrive.

lurkyloo
06-07-2011, 07:47 PM
I think it was an OK amount of early... The one bad thing was we had to have the tux fitting on a Saturday, with the wedding on a Monday, which meant they couldn't swap out pieces that didn't fit, just alter the hems/cuffs. I don't remember if it would have worked if we'd done the fitting on Friday... maybe not.

So I think the number of days early was good (what was it... 2?), it was just the fact that they fell over a weekend that was a bummer. I could see this also being a consideration if you need to drive to the courthouse to get your license, because they aren't open on the weekends.

But I wanted the bulk of our trip to be *after* the wedding so that it'd be all honeymoon. For me, getting there a week before and going to all the parks and stuff would have made the honeymoon part kind of anticlimactic.
