Awesome first day Carrie!!

I would buy the groom hat. My DH is refusing to wear the top hat with Mickey ears, but he loves baseball caps and would definitely wear that. I, on the other hand do love my headband bridal ears! Despite our cats look at me like I'm an alien when I have them on.

Are you putting them up on ebay?

I love it, your DH did those? Don't sell the idea to Disney, keep it for yourselves and you guys and Caryn could start some "crafty" wedding stuff business. Get an ebay store.

You'd get a ton of business from uncrafty brides or VR's like myself, who want something original.

How did you like the Flying Fish?

Thanks, ladies! I will definitely keep you posted on the outcome - and hopefully I will soon have a link to fixed pictures for you! :)

I'm kinda starting to obsess about this, though, so to get my mind off it, I'll write about...

The Best First Day of a Honeymoon EVER!

The day after the wedding, this is all we did:

Slept in. Spent the morning splashing around at Stormalong Bay. Ate lunch at Beaches & Cream. Spent the afternoon napping by the pool. Walked over to the BoardWalk for dinner at Flying Fish. Activated our APs to watch IllumiNations at Epcot.

The End.

Ah.... good times!

Oh – also, we busted out these babies:

Free-Dessert Magnets
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5947.jpg

How ironic that I refused to wear a veil for my wedding but then spent the next 12 days wearing one everywhere we went! But it was worth it – you wouldn’t believe how many “Congratulations!” we got... or how many free desserts. Toward the end of the trip we felt like celebrities who get recognized when they’re trying to go incognito. We had to be "on" all the time to smile and wave at everyone who said Hi to us, which meant no newlywed spats. :rotfl: But you can bet we were bummed when we stopped wearing them and nobody said anything anymore....

DH made them out of regular Mickey ears, the bride headband and two hats we got on eBay for 10 bucks. We wanted to have hats with brims for shade, and I’m not crazy about headbands. You wouldn’t believe how many people A) asked where we got them, and then B) suggested we sell the idea to Disney when we described how we made them! Watch for them on eBay in the near future....
Sounds like the best first ever to me too!

My DH and your DH have something in common...they both converted Bride and Groom baseball caps to Disney-fied wedding ears! We did that when we got married back in 2002 also. Lots and lots of people stopped us to ask where we got them, etc. We even got attention from CM's about them! Our ears got us freebies too...as well as our own "private" section for viewing Fantasmic! Well, it was two rows...lol...a CM stopped us to chat when we were in MGM and congratulated us on our newlywed status. We talked for about 15 minutes when he asked if we were going to see Fantasmic. Indeed we were and he told us to ask for someone when we got there. He had a gal escort us to the show and helped us find whoever this mysterious CM was. Once we found him, he seated us in one of two rows that were roped off to other guests. He refused to let anyone else sit there as it was our "personal viewing section!" (for the record, as the show was getting closer to starting and the stadium filled, we let folks sit in the row behind us...lol) He made a big production out of the fact that we were one our honeymoon and made sure we were comfortable, etc. It was awesome...

Your wedding looked amazing!! The two of you have such personality and it shines in your pictures! :)

Your hats are awesome! How did he make them? I have seen directions for putting the groom's ears on a hat, since they are just stapled on the top hat, but how did he transfer the bride ears?

OMG! Tell me how to make that groom hat! I have a feeling that the Mickey groom top hat I bought is going to last all of two seconds when we get there. :rotfl:

What gorgeous pictures

:goodvibes Thanks!!

I'm so sorry to hear about your MK photo shoot - I really hope that they can fix things up for you. Sounds like you had a great first day as a married couple - I love your earhats! Staying tuned for more . . .

More to come!

Love the hats Carrie! Your DH did a great job!:thumbsup2 I was thinking about doing something like that for DF because that top hat they have for the grooms just look so uncomfortable.

Yes, it sounds like they hardly fit any guy, and they certainly don't block the sun...

Sorry to hear about the MK shoot. I hope they can straighten in out for you! I'm glad you had a good start to the honeymoon! I love Beaches and Cream...yum! You should sell those hats on E-bay, they are so cute!

I would buy the groom hat. My DH is refusing to wear the top hat with Mickey ears, but he loves baseball caps and would definitely wear that....Are you putting them up on ebay?

We're totally gonna sell 'em - except now his mom wants us to wear them to the at-home reception in April... d'oh! Maybe after the reception?

Can I put in my Order now for a Grooms Hat???

I would definitely buy those hats! they look great!

:rotfl: I told DH about this and he is seriously trying to figure out if it would be possible to make these for other people! The only problem is that the cost of the materials may make the hats end up costing more than people would want to pay - especially the bride hat.

Sound like a dream day! Very relaxing! Great idea for the hats! Continue to keep you mind off the MK issue, which I hope is resolved soon and keep us updated on you TR!:rotfl:

Yes ma'am! ;)

We just might! Flying Fish was good but not as spectacular as we'd been led to believe. I think maybe I should have had the steak everyone always raves about, but - silly me - I got fish!

My DH and your DH have something in common...they both converted Bride and Groom baseball caps to Disney-fied wedding ears! We did that when we got married back in 2002 also. Great minds think alike! That's a great wedding-ear freebie story!

OMG! Tell me how to make that groom hat! I have a feeling that the Mickey groom top hat I bought is going to last all of two seconds when we get there. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

:rotfl: For the groom ears, you actually don't even need the top hat - just buy a cheap-o set of classic black mouse ears. We made slits in the sides of the hat and pushed the metal tabs through, then covered the metal bars with black felt that was affixed using Barge, an industrial-strength adhesive they use to put soles on shoes.

The bride ears were trickier and more spendy, cuz you gotta buy that headband. He removed the ears, trim and veil, and then affixed the ears the same way he did the groom ears. It's harder because of the sequins. Then he used Barge to affix the veil and trim at the top. :thumbsup2

Alas, I wasn't clear enough on my Disney photography experience. The honeymoon pics that we got that were so great weren't photopass; they were the honeymoon shoot that we swapped out for the regular photography (we used Randy on the actual day of). *That's* the guy who we asked about the differences in levels of photography. Photopass guys (and gals!), from what I understand are at completely diferent.

Carrie,

Sorry to hear Flying Fish wasn't up to snuff. I had the potato wrapped snapper(DH even liked it and he's not a fish lover). He had the short ribs which were great. But then again we downed a bottle of Merlot, so anything may have tasted great to us. :thumbsup2

Wanted to let you know one of your wedding day tips has payed off for my sister. She has a dress that is faux wrap and the top keeps gapping open(she's rather modest), so I told her about the tape you used to hold your necklace in place. She bought a roll and :yay: it works and saves her $50 from buying some camisole to wear underneith it.

So here's a big thank you from Hope.:flower3:

Could you just do the same for the bride as for the groom (only painted white with a bit of veil attatched)? It would be a fun and rewarding weekendy hobby for you and Patrick and could fund future trips to Disney! I say you go for it. :thumbsup2 Oh! And you could call your company Smoochtastic Designs! :woohoo: It would totally work.

So much catching up to do...

I am so happy that you had such a wonderful day. Everything looked absolutely amazing and you tell such a great story. I'm looking forward to the rest of your trip.

Love the hats Patrick made. I totally want to do something like that as DF would never put that top hat on his head, ever, plus he loves baseball hats. Headbands don't stay put on my head & I'd rather a baseball hat myself to keep the sun off my head and out of my eyes & ensure a great hair day :rotfl:

So sorry about your MK pics. I hope something works out there pixiedust:

I've been agonizing over this.... I don't want to share the link with anybody yet because we've been trying to work with Disney to get them fixed. And I don't want to write about the MK Shoot experience yet because the whole thing has been ruined by how awful our pictures are.

The problems aren't just a matter of taste - the photographer actually Photoshopped in random lines and bleached out parts of one photo in an attempt to "help" a goofy pose we struck. The other problems include people walking through the back of our shots, the castle being crooked in almost all photos, photos that are blurry or out of focus, giant red exit signs in the photos, and framing that is so bad that 2/3 of the picture is sidewalk or sky, with a tiny castle and tiny us somewhere in the back.

At first I thought I'd just been spoiled by working with the Roots, but when I saw Amanda's pix, I knew that ours were actually bad. Hers include a nice mix of long shots and closeups, and Photoshop work that's actually artistic. About 70% of ours are taken from so far away that you can't see our features, and they include all this other junk in the frame - trash cans, huge expanses of sidewalk, etc. I actually felt sick when I first saw them, considering how much we spent.

When we first brought this to the attention of Disney Photographic, they said our photographer would fix them and reupload them. Well, we looked at them again when they reuploaded them, and they are IDENTICAL! They added in a few extra shots we didn't have before, but the Photoshop problems, the framing - it's all still there. So I sent back a shot-by-shot breakdown of the problems with each picture. I haven't heard anything back yet....

Sorry to write such a rant. I keep hoping we'll hear back and I can post a link to the fixed pictures, but until then... no pictures, folks... :sad1:

Sorry to hear about your Disney pictures--I came out of "lurk-dom" to tell you that my pics were taken in 2002 at MK photoshoot and we were getting ready to hang them in our new house last week-lo and behold, I notice my DH's arm was photoshopped!!! He has no arm and I never noticed in 5 years! OOPS! (Of course, my Mom has a copy and I told her and she said "Oh yeah, we laugh about that everytime we walk by the picture~") ***? Anyway, I contacted Disney Photo and they offered to fix the pics and even gave me their fedex number to send them back...I haven't read all the posts after the above one to see what happened, but I am sure they can do something!
Just thought I'd share.//;)

Wow Carrie, I'm so sorry MK photo shoot turned out poorly -- esp since you have to get up so EARLY for it!!! UGH.

I would actually like to offer up a delicate word of warning to future brides regarding photography.

MK photo shoot --
we actually love our MK photo shoot photos -- even though they look almost like everybody elses! Luckily we made some suggestions (pirate shot, tiki, etc) that our guy went for. (and it is cool to be in the park before it opens.)

But I wonder if Disney photogrpahy isn't really the best -- It's kind of like they are one trick ponies. (although maybe that's not fair -- I don't know all the disney photog's work)

ceremony --
we loved the after ceremony portraits our Disney photogs did... they were pretty traditional but they managed to make me not look so old and fat in some shots, so YAY!

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q49/pintradingwedding/DISNEY%20WEDDING/ADVENTURERS%20CLUB/021073-0158.jpg

reception --
being gentle now, a little disappointed by still shot coverage of the reception. wish there was MORE shots. (those two digital cameras should have been firing away.) wish it was more active -- more photojournalistic style. i mean who wants pictures of people in the food line??! luckily DH had his camera there and that helped flesh out the coverage. but we did LOVE our disney photog's personality though -- super nice and fun to share the day with!

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q49/pintradingwedding/DISNEY%20WEDDING/ADVENTURERS%20CLUB/DSCF9240.jpg

videography --
AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually have never even watched it because DH told me not to. DH literally had to TURN OFF the video because he was so angry at how poorly it was shot. Especially the reception. He wanted to call and get the guy fired!

(guess we'll just have to do a disney vow renewal and hire a better videographer.)

in summary --
we went with disney photog/videography just because 1) it seemed simpler AND mainly 2) because it counted towards the minimum. (my goal was to meet the minimum and not pay a dime more!)

but we REALLY REGRET It now, because our Once In A Lifetime Day was so poorly documented esp. by the videographer.

Do your research, girls (and boys) and spend the money -- then you won't be sorry!

Hate to burst your bubble, :) but renting DVC points is not a secret. The Unofficial WDW guide book mentions it, as do several others, including an ebook by an-ex cast member, who says it's the best way to save money at WDW.

I know a couple of owners who actually have websites and are very professional about it. This is one of those "flame" threads over at DVC boards, people are very pro or anti renting.

Only problem is DVC is trying to stop the "professional" renters(20+ reservations a year trigger a letter sent to the owner). It's even addressed in the new DVC planner this year.

This surprises me as it's very easy and rather hassel free to rent my Starwood ski week in Avon/Beaver Creek CO. I prefer to use my points, as I find it PITA to rent points, much easier to do a yearly transfer to another member who needs more.

They're not a great option for a family, because they (mostly) sleep 4, and there's only one bed at some of the resorts.

Renting points for exactly what you want from someone here is different than the rentals I've seen on ebay or elsewhere online. I don't like the idea of "professional" renters, although I'm not sure why it should bother me.

I think people liked it! The pens didn't smudge or bleed through, and everyone there wrote in it (toward the end we had his mother take it around and insist that everyone write in it. We still have a lot of blank space left - I don't know if it's cuz the book was so big/had too many pages or just cuz we only had 34 guests and many were couples. So we're going to bring it to our at-home reception and give people pens in a different color to use to sign it. :thumbsup2

Glad to hear about the photobook also. I was just going to ask you that question and I go on your report and wonder of wonders, there it is.

We are still going back and forth about using eithe the photobook or one from the Guest Book Store where people write in and answer questions on each page. The main reason I want to go that way is to get a picture of everyone at our wedding.

Honeymoon Day 3

Skipping over Day 2 for the moment, we get to Thursday, Feb. 7, our Epcot Day.

I woke up early and decided to do a little laundry and read until DH woke up (the curse of staying at a DVC resort is that you feel compelled to do laundry constantly because it’s FREE!). I took my book down to my fave common area, the Solarium, but they had the TV on full blast (with nobody in the room) at 7:30am, and I couldn’t figure out how to turn it off. I moved to the Breezeway, but people kept parading through there like it was noon. So I ended up back in the Drawing Room, where we had our meet ‘n’ greet – just right!

DH woke up and had some cereal and then we headed for the park. It was SO nice to be able to walk over to the International Gateway for park opening. Since neither of us had been to Epcot since we were kids (getting married there doesn’t count), we planned a full day to explore. As soon as the rope dropped, we raced off to Test Track while everyone else dashed for Soarin’. We ride Soarin’ Over California all the time at DCA, so that was one crowd magnet we managed to avoid on our trip. Along the way we got tons of congratulations and comments on our hats. Test Track was fun, but my favorite part – the high-speed loop at the end – felt like it was just getting started and then the ride ended. We found that a lot with the thrill rides at WDW (Expedition Everest excepted).

Then we rode the orange side of Mission: Space and didn’t die. Hooray!!! Really, most of my tummy weirdness at the beginning was just fear from all the horror stories I’d heard. Once again, just as things really got interesting and we landed on Mars... the ride ended! DH was bummed that we didn’t get to tool around the surface and explore. From there we went to Spaceship Earth, which I’d never ever been on. I really liked it! I love how many rides with animatronics there are at WDW.

After that, we rode the Seas with Nemo & Friends, which I think really needs to be experienced before you see Disneyland’s version on the submarines. It was kinda boring and short (I don’t mean to be a D-land snob – we found many things at WDW that we think are done way better than at “our” park).

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5222.jpg

Inside the Living Seas we looked at a bunch of unidentified fish and the back of a manatee. We couldn’t figure out why nothing in the exhibits is labeled. Even the tiniest local aquariums tell you what you’re looking at.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5217.jpg

We ate lunch at Sunshine Seasons in the Land cuz I’d heard it had good variety for counter-service spot. The “airport food court” theming is kind of a head-scratcher, though. Didn’t all of us see one of those on the way to WDW? The nice lady at the Spring station told us we could take two cookies from the bakery for being newlyweds, but I also tried the peanut butter chocolate cake – OMG, it was amazing! It was better than our wedding cake! Light, moist and the peanut butter wasn’t gummy and fake-tasting. It became my dessert, the way some people latch on to Norway’s School Bread or the Dole Whips. I’m not sure why I didn’t take a picture....

We couldn’t believe how soon we finished Future World, considering we’d wanted to see it all. The Imagination Pavilion was completely closed, as was the body one, and we decided to save Ellen’s Universe of Energy for when we had 45 minutes of our lives that we never wanted back... Off to the World Showcase!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5233.jpg

Canada was, of course, lovely. The new Circlevision movie was pretty cool, despite Martin Short (he kept the mugging to a minimum), and it made me want to go back to (real) Canada – so I guess they succeeded! DH loved the shop...

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5240.jpg

In England we got dissed by Alice for taking a picture of her as she walked to her picture location – sorry, lady! In France I went on the hunt for perfume, thinking I would get something to remind me of our trip every time I wore it. Unfortunately, they only have a very small selection of exclusive perfumes, and none of them knocked me out. Chanel was debuting some new fragrance at Epcot and passing out samples: It smelled exactly like the soap in the restrooms – ick!

We watched France’s Circlevision film and of course decided we had to go there, too. (This became a theme.) We also lined up to get chocolate mousse at the bakery on the recommendation of a fellow DISer who is obsessed by it. It tasted like it was made from powder, and we ended up pitching it (of course this DISer also eats All-Star food court pizza for every meal – hee hee!).

In Morocco we stopped to marvel at how different everything looked from our wedding day. In fact, it hardly seemed like the same place! One funny thing happened – I began whining about how the Roots hadn’t taken any pictures of us in front of the fountain and how I wished I’d asked for one (this was before we got our discs and saw that they managed to get 1,500 excellent pictures without sticking us in front of the fountain - LOL). So we decided to use some of the leftover foreign coins we’d brought from home to make a wish in the fountain, and DH wished we had a picture in front of the fountain. Just then a couple walked up to us and asked if they could take our picture in front of the fountain cuz they loved our wedding ears!!! It was spooky!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5245.jpg

In Japan we watched the candy lady make a wolf and explored the Mitsukoshi department store. We bought our first souvenirs, two cute stuffed animals (I think they’re from Pokemon - don’t tell anyone...).

In America we were set upon by a very tenacious and slightly annoying cast member who first dragged us over to hear a congratulatory phone call from Mickey and Minnie (apparently Mickey is as enamored of cake as I am!) and then insisted we sit down in the middle of the Rotunda and stay until the Voices of Liberty showed up. I was kinda creeped out by how demanding he was, so we sneaked out, but when he saw us outside, he started freaking out about how we had to come back and sit in that spot. Finally DH said we should humor him, so we ended up with a front-row seat for the Voices of Liberty, and they made a big fuss over us and sang us “When You Wish Upon a Star” – it was really quite moving.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5250.jpg

Then another CM came to get us and took us in an elevator to the American Adventure show. We got to pick out our seats before they let anyone in to the theater – sweet! In Germany we poked around the Biergarten and the shops. I made DH take a picture of the Arribas Brothers’ $37,500 crystal-encrusted castle so we wouldn’t have to buy it.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5251.jpg

We kinda skipped Italy because we were running out of time before our Le Cellier reservation. I was really looking forward to this one because I’d heard so much about the food. Boy was I glad I’d made a reservation 6 months in advance – while we were waiting, we saw them very snottily turn away several groups who walked in without ADRs. In fact, it felt like the whole place had the air of a successful business that doesn’t have to try very hard because the customers will come anyway. As many people have pointed out, the tables are squeezed together to get the maximum number of customers in (why can’t they just expand the building?). The service was perfunctory and each course came out before we finished the previous one – no secret that they were trying to rush us out.

And, the biggest offense, NO FREE DESSERT! Boo! OK, of course we were not entitled to a free dessert just for spending thousands of dollars to marry at WDW (hee hee!), but it sorta underscored the indifferent service. Actually, a bigger bummer was that they no longer serve maple creme brulee, just vanilla. What’s the point? I can get vanilla creme brulee at every restaurant on property... However, all that complaining aside, the food was fantastic and I am a sucker and I totally want to go back!

After dinner we buzzed through China and Mexico, knowing we’d be back to give them a proper look later. We rode the Three Caballeros ride, and DH modeled a sombrero.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5254.jpg

We decided to skip IllumiNations (sacrilege, I know) and get some ice cream at the Beach Club marketplace to take back to our room and eat with cake. We sat on our balcony eating cake, watching Wishes over the Magic Kingdom, and listening to the soundtrack to “Believe... There’s Magic In the Stars” cuz it was the only fireworks music I had on my iPod!

We are still going back and forth about using eithe the photobook or one from the Guest Book Store where people write in and answer questions on each page. The main reason I want to go that way is to get a picture of everyone at our wedding.

I guess my thing was I wanted a coffee table book of our photos that also had our guests' well-wishes. The way we got pix of all our guests was to schedule time with the photographers to take portraits with each guest. It didn't take very long, and now we have great shots of everyone!

Well -- he could always do some photoshopping if you aren't happy with what you see.... :rolleyes1

That was the view from our balcony at the Beach Club Villas - we stayed in a studio that was on the end right around the corner from the elevator on the 5th floor, so it was both convenient and secluded. We later moved to the Contemporary, Animal Kingdom Villas and the Grand, but BCV was my favorite!

OK, sorry to crash your thread with this question, but I'm kinda new here (here since Jan '08)--who's the girl, and what's the story?

If it's inappropriate, or you don't wanna post it in your thread, would you mind PM'ing me? It'll give me some comedy on this extremely cloudy and rainy day.

We don't know too much about her - she was on the DIS a bit during her planning and had some horrible problems with scheduling her reception at a dessert party location in Epcot (this part is in that thread I linked to). When she came back from the wedding she posted that thread and then disappearerd, but I can't say I blame her. For one thing, if she did reach some sort of settlement with Disney, she probably can't talk about it anymore. And if that's not the case, she may just not want to talk about it - I know that sometimes venting my problems here gets me even more worked up about them. Plus, it's a public forum and people have objected to a lot of the dirt dished here... But that's all just conjecture on my part! :thumbsup2

As for the guest book, I designed it on Blurb.com, and, after hassling with MyPublisher's bookmaking software this week, I can wholeheartedly recommend Blurb. There are tons of different styles and layouts and the prices are cheap cheap cheap: For a large-format book. Blurb gives you up to 40 pages for $55, and then it's $10 more for each additional increment of 40 pages.

MyPublisher wants $60 for a 20-page book and charges $3 EACH for additional pages. Plus the book jacket is an extra $9. Considering that MyPublisher's Mac software only contains 4 different (nearly identical) styles and about 6 different page layouts, I will be making all my wedding books in Blurb...

Here's a link to a post with pix of our guest book:

Exactly!

Originally I was going to do MyPublisher books for my dad and DH's parents and then do a big honkin' Blurb book for us, but now that I know the prices, I can do a big honkin' Blurb book for everyone!

The CDs of all our pix were included in our Rootography package. We haven't ordered any prints from them yet, but we did order engagement photo prints, and they are very nice. The quality is far superior to the Shutterfly and Snapfish prints we made.

I'm also considering doing a flush mount album like Caryn was thinking of doing, because - rather than a 4-color-press printed Blurb book - it is like having real photographs bound in a book. However I may run out of steam/enthusiasm/money after a few months and just stick with my Blurb book... :rotfl:

jaclyn sent me a really cheap site for the renn albums,

http://tyndellphotographic.com/renLIB80SQalbum.html

there are about a million different types of albums and mattes on there. i'm going to call them today to ask questions about what i need to order.

i plan on doing one of those and a HUGE blurb book for us, and smaller books for our parents and my sisters!

was the quality of your prints significantly different from the roots than it was from shutterfly/snapfish? i was going to order a 16x20 from them because randy charges a lot for his prints...

If you get a matte-finish print from Shutterfly/Snapfish it looks better than the glossy, but it still looks like you got it at the drugstore.

The Roots recommend www.mpix.com for printing their photos - it's a site used by pro photographers for prints, books, etc. but the print prices are cheaper than the prices I've seen on most photogs' websites (like 19-29 cents for a 4x6!). I think I'll be making my prints through Mpix... I'll keep you posted on the quality. :thumbsup2

OK, I'm still working on the next installment of the honeymoon trippie, but I thought you might get a kick out of the Best Man's wedding toast, which he delivered during our reception in the style of a Jungle Cruise skipper. He even talked through his hand to replicate the tinny microphone sound! (The Best Man is DH's twin, just to set that up for you...)

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Patrick and Carrie's wedding reception, presented by Dole. I'm Sean, and I'll be your best man for the afternoon. Before we get started with the wedding toast, I want to remind you to store your loose articles under your seat. Once they are safely stowed, pull down on your lap bar. Do me a favor and tug on the yellow tag to make sure the lap bar is secure. During the duration of the speech, please remain seated, and keep your hands and arms inside the vehicle at all times — and please watch your children. Off we go — Driver, you're all clear.

Good afternoon, and let’s gets started on our magical wedding adventure. I just want to tell you a little about the couple we are here to celebrate. On the driver’s left is our groom, Patrick. Little known fact, Patrick is twin. When he is fully grown, he can be up to 25 feet tall and weigh up to 5,000 pounds. To the driver’s right is Carrie. Little known fact, she is not a twin. When she is fully grown, she can be up to 25 feet tall and weight up 5,000 pounds.

Patrick and Carrie met at his cousin's birthday party. In fact, hold on a minute—I think I see him now! Don't worry folks, you’re perfectly safe as long as he's not blowing bubbles and wiggling ears. Oh no! [bang, bang]

We hope you enjoyed your visit with us today. If you did, my name is Sean, if not, my name is Patrick. Now before we disembark, gather all your belongings, take small children by the hand, raise your glass, and join me in singing the traditional toast..."

[followed by singing of DH's family toast, a Swedish drinking song]

Have you noticed, Carrie, that the 'nickel' fountain is now blood red? I don't know how long it's been that way - but last time we saw it, it was creepy! It was right around Halloween though, so we weren't sure if it was because of the excessive amounts of pennies in there, or that they dyed it or something to look creepy :rotfl:

(May not be red anymore - we didn't ride it in December so I haven't seen it lately).

Maybe it's even luckier that way? ;)

Bah! Must've been cleaned up or just a Halloween thing. I would've taken a picture, but it was dark :guilty: (It was red, I swear! :rolleyes1)

When are we double datin' to DL?? I need a good excuse to get DB back there :rotfl:

Oh - and more honeymoon pictures, please! :goodvibes

Oh darn Heidi! I didn't realize you were from SoCal. I would have asked you to meet me at DL last weekend. Sunday DBF was at his grandfather's for most of the day (after having spent the morning there on Saturday). I spent the whole day by myself. (Got to do lots of drawings though!)

Hey we're always around! It's a little hard to get DB to go (he hates planning things more than 24 hours ahead of time), and he refuses to go on weekends (too busy for his liking - and our passes are blacked out), but aside from that... :rotfl:

And they say women are too picky! :snooty:

We're sorry, almighty Carrie! :worship: We beseech your forgiveness!

And... wait - there's no cake on the cake stand? You received a perfect excuse to have cake in your house at all times, and there isn't something yummy and cake-y and edible on it??

Just kidding - it's a cute idea :thumbsup2 Reminds me of that company that makes miniature versions of your wedding dress for those kinds of displays.

Friday was supposed to be our first unscheduled day, to give us time to move from Beach Club Villas to the Contemporary and relax before our reservation at California Grill. But in the weeks before our wedding people started getting us all these cool experiences on our Disney Honeymoon Registry, so the free days quickly filled up with activities.

We got up and finished packing, then drove our stuff to the Contemporary and checked in. I’d secretly hoped for a little more honeymoon magic, like a Tower room upgrade or even an early check-in, but they were sold out that night so we got nuthin’ but a baggage claim ticket from Bell Services.

We hopped a monorail to Epcot, where we had reservations for the Behind the Seeds tour of the Land Pavilion. We must be getting old, cuz we loved it! It is what the Land ride should be – educational but fun, interesting and interactive. We got to see all the crazy hydroponic growing systems and ginormous vegetables, plus the fish tanks (where we induced a feeding frenzy with pellets our guide distributed) and parts of the Living with the Land ride from the other side. I highly recommend it!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5319.jpg
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5289.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5276.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5301.jpg

Afterward we took the monorail back to the Contemporary and ate a quick hot dog in our room before our appointment for… parasailing! We met our two, uh, boat dudes at the dock and hopped on a speed boat. It was disconcerting and yet mildly comforting how casual they were about the whole shooting-into-the-air-on-a-parachute thing.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5332.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5345.jpg

They gave us these frighteningly simple harnesses to wear and had us take off our shoes and sit down at the back of the boat as they unfurled the Jolly Roger-bedecked parachute. One minute we’re sitting there chatting about the weather and the next thing we know we’re 300 feet in the air as the boat grows smaller and smaller below us.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5333.jpg

It almost wasn’t scary til I started to think about how our only connection to the tiny boat below was a 2-inch wide cable and the only thing attaching me and DH to the chute was a pair of metal hooks.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5335.jpg

We picked the 600-foot, 12-minute deluxe tandem parasailing package, and we were so glad we’d gone together. I know I would have spent the whole flight trying to memorize every detail so I could tell DH about it when I got back to the boat. When we got up there, DH said, “There’s nobody else I’d rather be up here with than you” – so cute!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5343.jpg

We tried to pick out landmarks (easy to do cuz Florida is so flat!) and wished we had a camera to take pix of the DVC resort they’re not building next to the Contemporary. Originally 12 minutes had sounded kinda short, but it turned out to be just right – and maybe a tad too long!

My feet started to get kinda cold, and I noticed that one of the clasps on my harness looked like it was about to come undone (it wasn’t, but it sure looked that way!). They’d given us a chicken signal to make if we wanted to come in early, but we were trying to be tough so we waited til they reeled us in. Apparently they had been having a party onboard in our absence – the frat rock was cranked way up and all that were missing were the Budweiser Babes…

After that we took a break in our room. We hung out with our duck buddies, who came right up to our patio and then tried to come inside after we fed them Cheetos. (This became our favorite pastime at the Contemporary.)

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5360.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5353.jpg

I used the slooooooow free Internet access to hop on the Boards and read all the nice messages people had posted on my planning journal and check out the preview pix the Roots had posted on their blog (thanks, Heidi!). Here is a picture of me posting a message from my honeymoon, like a dork.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5361.jpg

We got all gussied up and went upstairs to the California Grill for dinner. Originally I’d perfectly timed our reservation so we could catch the second showing of Wishes during the Pirate & Princess Party from our table. But right before our trip they cancelled Wishes during PP and suddenly we were stuck with a 9:30pm dinner reservation. The only time I was able to switch to was 5:50pm, but it turned out to be really nice because it was so uncrowded.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5378.jpg
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5381.jpg

I’d heard horror stories about waiting 45 minutes past your ADR time to be seated, but we got in right away. We had a nice, mellow dinner. I’d had Disney Dining put “honeymoon” on every single ADR, and at this one they’d sprinkled confetti on our table.

DH made this for me!
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5391.jpg

When the waiter made the obligatory sushi pitch, I was like, “We’re from California – we can get sushi at the laundromat,” and he backed off. I had the filet, which cannot be obtained at the laundromat and is delicious (but why the teriyaki sauce on a perfectly fine piece of meat?). DH’s scallops were better than the ones I had at Flying Fish.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5395.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5394.jpg

And we got a free dessert to go! Oh, and speaking of going, I made DH take pix of the Sonoma Room on the way to the bathroom so I could post them on the boards if necessary. Nerd!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5388.jpg

Because we finished dinner so early, we had time to go back to our room and change into warm clothes, then ride the elevator back to the California Grill to watch the regular Wishes from the observation deck. At that point we’d seen them three times, and never from in the hub! After the fireworks we dashed downstairs and along the path to the Magic Kingdom to catch SpectroMagic. Neither of us had ever seen it and we’d heard sooo much about it (well, OK, Tour Guide Mike goes on about it constantly). We staked out a spot in Liberty Square and pretended that the CMs pushing carts full of light-up necklaces were the first floats of the parade. While we waited we got a call from the Roots, who wanted to do another photo shoot with us, this time inside the parks. We made plans to meet them in Celebration for breakfast the following Tuesday and then hit Magic Kingdom, and Jensey told us her favorite place to watch SpectroMagic (which isn’t Liberty Square – whoops!).

So the parade came by, and Cinderella pointed to our bride & groom ears and wished us congratulations, but…. I don’t get the big deal (no flames, please). I’m not a huge parade fan, but I guess I thought Spectro would be different cuz of all the lights. Maybe someone can esplain it to me….

Then we rode Haunted Mansion – whohoo! And then we walked back to our room, back to the ducks pressing their beaks against the glass and quacking “Cheetos! Cheetos!” and pooping all over our patio to thank us.

I wasn't impressed with it either Carrie and neither was my 6 yr old. I about died when the parade started off with the girls with their "glow in the dark" tchotchke(yiddish for inexpensive trinket) carts.

Matthew then spent the rest of that trip, spotting those carts in every park and laughing about the tchotchke carts and when is their parade starting.:rotfl2:

It's one of those things you do once, so you can say "Yes, I've seen Spectromagic".

Love the braids!

My whole family hates parades (and it's nice to be able to skip them guilt free) but I drag them to spectro. I also made them go to the parade for MVMCP and my 7 year old fell asleep in his little sister's stroller! So boring that he slept through the whole thing.

You know, you did get a decent room at the contemp. Lake view, right? The first floor is the best because you get a patio. All of the other floors in that wing have just a door and no where to go. It's not an MK view tower room, but still pretty nice. :) Any more pictures of the room? Or your other rooms?

Yay another update! I'm not a huge fan of parade either. I generally watch them on the way to something else. We caught the one at DLR (after DBF made it to the parks) we were heading up to take the train to Toontown and had a perfect view. We also got to see the Electrical parade in DCA between ToT and Screamin'. I just stood behind the one row of people who were sitting down (near the Bug's Life stuff). It was a great view! After that I made sure that I was hitting the big rides while everyone was watching the parades.

Ok, first I have to say I've been on these boards for a couple years and you have BY FAR the most entertaining Trip Report I've ever read!

Now that the addoration is done, DF loves ducks, squirrels, lizards (small ones)etc. We have more pictures of random wildlife at Disney than we ever have of actual people and things!!! Sadly we'll be at the GF (:yay: ) so we won't have any ducks outside our patio, but I'll be sure to try and find some for him to feed. Hmm, now that I think about it I'd better not tell him that people could feed ducks at WL and the Cont or he'll want to change resorts!! :scared1:

Anyway, great report!!!

Ahhh, the Sonoma room. We went to a reception there and had a great time. I've had the filet there several times and never had teriyaki on it. Is that a change to it?

And I wholeheartedly agree with you about Spectro. I love the music, but the parade does nothing for me. If it's going to be a parade, only the Main Street Electrical Parade will do for me. You've got that on your coast, so you're lucky!

Thanks for sharing!

Day Five:

My journal entry for this day starts: “Another frigging magical day!”

It was Saturday, and we inveterate park tourers decided to sleep in for a change. When we got up, we took the monorail from the Contemporary to the Polynesian for brunch at Kona Café — our first spontaneous, non-ADR meal (gasp!). I made DH order the Tonga Toast because I’d heard so much about it (but don’t eat bananas myself), and I had a delicious (Polynesian) trencherman’s breakfast of eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, macadamia nut pancakes, French toast and home fries. Burp!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5398.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5399.jpg

Afterward we took the monorail to the Grand Floridian to buy soaps at Basin. DH wanted to use a special one during our trip so we could sniff it later and always be reminded of our honeymoon. Awwwww! Coincidentally, the one that smelled the best had a bride and groom in it! (Imagine my dismay when I eventually had to separate them as the soap wore down and pieces began to fall out, including the groom’s head!)

From there we took the monorail to the Magic Kingdom and spent the morning walking up and down Main Street and soaking in all the theming.

The first time we went to the MK (Day 1, description to be added later) I remarked on how loud the music was compared to on Main Street at Disneyland.

“Hey you kids, turn down that $%&@ music!!”
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5410.jpg

This time we figured out that they only blast it when a train pulls in, as if to say, “HOORAY! The train is here! Again! Just like it was 10 minutes ago! Let’s all celebrate by going deaf!!”

“I can tell the train’s a-comin’ cuz my ears are a-bleedin’!”
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5404.jpg

We had time to stop and listen to the Dapper Dans, who sang a lovely song to me and DH and another couple, who were celebrating their 63rd anniversary! You can bet we solicited advice from them…

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5430.jpg

Then we walked back to the Contemporary and freshened up. On the way we discovered a duck nest against the window just inside the door to the Garden wing:

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5434.jpg

While we were in our room, I called about a “bounce-back” offer for returning guests in September. We’re such suckers – when we were in Walt Disney World for our planning session last September, they hooked us with a free-dining bounce-back offer for this September. So on our honeymoon we took advantage of another offer to get a screaming deal on one night at the Polynesian when we go back in September. I have to say, though, that having that September trip planned already REALLY helped ease the post-honeymoon blues…

Next we caught the monorail to Epcot, where we got to sit up front with the driver. It turned out he used to live in SoCal and worked at Disneyland, so we all reminisced about it. He said he wanted to move back.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5436.jpg

In Epcot we hit the attractions we’d missed on our commando day Thursday: Maelstrom (“Please stay for the 5-minute movie, PLEASE! No – wait, where are you going? Did I say 5 minutes? I meant 5 seconds. Pleeeeeeease!!!”), the China movie, and Ellen’s Universe of Energy (“Did we mention this ride is 37 minutes long? That’s right. Thir-ty… se-ven… MINUTES. There are no potty breaks. 37 minutes. All Ellen, all the time. THIRTY SEVEN MINUTES!!!! While you’re on the ride, we’ll be enjoying the delightful film in Norway... 58 times.”)

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5461.jpg

Just so you know, I was purposely sticking my belly out in this picture…
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5464.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5458.jpg

We also got to try out Segways for about 30 seconds each in Innoventions.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5465.jpg

Then we saw a turtle in the murky water between Future World and the World Showcase.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5437.jpg

In the evening we had dinner at Bistro de Paris. The honeymoon note on the ADR worked – we got a table right by the window, where we could see IllumiNations!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5469.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5473.jpg

DH had duck (tastes like Cheetos!) and I had yet another filet. It was good, but not as good a piece of meat as the one at California Grill or Le Cellier.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5470.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5472.jpg

For dessert, which was not free, DH had apple crisp and I had peanut butter chocolate cake I’d smuggled in from Sunshine Seasons. It took forever to get our bill, so we got to watch the park clear out from our perch. Walking out of France toward the monorail was a bit like being in Epcot for our wedding because there was hardly anyone around.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5486.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5489.jpg

But we found everyone eventually – they were all trying to get on the monorail like we were! It took us an hour to get back to the Contemporary, and then we had to pack because the next day we moved to…Animal Kingdom Villas!

TOTALLY! The first day back at work was the longest day of my life. I had all this newfound perpective, like "Why am I sitting in front of a computer for 8 hours when I could be outside enjoying the weather?" and "What do you mean I can't wear jeans?" :lmao:

And you don't eat bananas either?? Are you allergic too?? People think I'm NUTS when I tell 'em that.

Day 6

Today was an “on” day of park touring but felt like an “off” day because Animal Kingdom is easy to see in one day. Everyone tells you this but I didn’t believe it because we like to explore every nook and cranny of every park. But they are right! We had to get up heck-of early to check out of the Contemporary, check into Animal Kingdom Villas and make it to AK in time for rope drop. Not only did we make it, but we were first in line at the turnstiles!

When we checked out of the Contemporary we discovered some people had added more money to our Disney Honeymoon Registry in the last few days – very cool! Checking into AKV was pretty painless, but I was white knuckling it for a bit because non-members can’t talk to Member Services to confirm their room reservations on rented points. So at the back of my mind I had these “what if the reservation didn’t go through and we don’t have anywhere to stay for 5 nights?” thoughts until we actually got our room keys. Of course, the fact that we had a printed confirmation directly from the Disney Vacation Club should have reassured me...

We left our bags with Bell Services and left the O Mobile in the lot, grabbing a bus to AK. When they opened the turnstiles, we hustled past the row of animal wranglers they station just beyond the gates to distract you as you hotfoot it for Everest—or at least the rope to the area closest to Everest. We did the patented Disney “I’m not running” walk-run just so we could all go wait at another rope for the interminable park-opening ceremony with a truckload of characters. FINALLY we got to walk-run behind the cast members to Everest. We grabbed FPs, zipped through the line, and then waited a minute or two to ride upfront.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5571.jpg

Sweet merciful crap, is that ride fun! I know most of the other roller coasters inside and out, so it was fun not to know what was going to happen next. The theming is, of course, amazing, and the ride itself is scary but smooth and it doesn’t feel too short. Anyway – you guys all know this already, but now I’ve caught up! After Everest we hoofed it over to Africa to ride the safari – probably the longest line we waited in on our entire trip at about half an hour. There were a decent number of animals out, but I don’t know how anyone gets good pictures from those jouncy safari vehicles. I liked how long the ride was, and DH liked all the details, like fake tire tracks in the fake mud.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5493.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5506.jpg

When we got off the ride we grabbed FPs for later. I can’t remember when we rode Dinosaur – I think it was next. I was all ready for a fun excursion to see dinosaurs with Claire Huxtable but then some jerky employee of hers sent us to right before the meteor wiped out the dinos so we could bring back a dinosaur for him to profit from. (Why an entire dinosaur? Why not just an egg? Wouldn’t that have been a little easier to carry?).

As we were walking back through DinoLand U.S.A. we ran into a couple with anniversary pins on who congratulated us on being newlyweds, and the husband said “This is what you get to look forward to in 14 years!” I thought that was sweet – and encouraging!

[Can someone tell me why they don’t have boats going around the river at Animal Kingdom anymore? We couldn’t get over what a wasted opportunity it was...]
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5603.jpg

We got to Yak & Yeti a little before they opened. I guess they were still working the kinks out b/c it took them a while to open the doors and a lot of the people ahead of us in line seemed disgruntled about it. We, however, were perfectly gruntled! While we were waiting to be seated we met Pretty In Tink in line, which was really neat, and I think Yearbook50 was there, but I hadn’t met her yet so I didn’t know. It’s a small world after all...

We got to sit upstairs by a window overlooking the front of the restaurant.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5525.jpg

The theming is really neat. The food is... well it isn’t typical Landry’s—it’s better than Rain Forest food—but it’s way overpriced and not particularly authentic. Plus they don’t have a DDE discount and their AP discount is a measly 10% off up to 4 entrees. Boo!

Overpriced Potstickers

Overpriced Fishsticks in Sweet Ketchup
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5530.jpg

At least they had another “stick the mouse ears on a [fill in the blank]” photo op! And we’ll totally eat there again just cuz it’s air conditioned.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5532.jpg

After lunch we hit the day’s most popular, most crowded showing of the “Flights of Wonder” bird show. They had a neat pre-show Q & A with a handler and this owl.
We got seats down toward the front of the stadium on the left. Whenever they asked for volunteers, we were shameless in our grandstanding (“Looky! Lookit us! We just got married!”) and DH got to be in the show!

Here’s what it looks like when you’re sitting on stage and a gianormous bird comes swooping down at you from the back row of the audience and nearly whacks you in the face with its talons:

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5537.jpg

Stoopid slow camera....

I guess some of the birds didn’t do what they were supposed to at this show, but we didn’t care – it was cute! Afterward we got to meet some of the birds. They are too-cool-for-school and won’t sign autographs.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5545.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5548.jpg

After the show we walked all the trails in Africa and rode the train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. I thought it was going to have lots of places to meet and pet animals. I like to pet animals! But all they had was a typical kiddie petting zoo with nothing but goats and donkeys. Boooooooo-ring!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5551.jpg

So back to Asia we went to use our Everest FPs and collect some more. Even on our second go-round we couldn’t figure out if we’d actually gone upside down or not, so we had to embarrass ourselves by asking a CM. Hee hee!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5572.jpg

By then our Safari FPs had opened up, so we went trekking back to Africa (we wore a path between Asia and Africa that day) only to find that the ride was shut down due to “animal difficulties.” When we got back from our honeymoon we learned that one of the safari vehicles caught fire! Luckily no one was seriously injured.

We got some frosty chocolate milkshakes and watched some acrobats outside Tusker House. We poked around Tusker House cuz we’ll never eat there now that it’s a buffet, and then we went to check out the animal trails in Asia. They were GREAT! We loved the theming of the tiger area especially.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5584.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5588.jpg

After our third ride on Everest we poked around the trails at the base of the Tree of Life looking at all the animals carved in it and trying to find the otter exhibit. This turned out to be one of my favorite parts of the day because there were lots of secluded spots for necking!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5604.jpg

The last thing we did was go over to Camp Minnie Mickey so DH could look for dragons. He is a fan of the idea that Animal Kingdom should have a land devoted to fantasy animals, and he heard about how they originally used dragons in some of the signage for the park, so he wanted to look for more dragon clues in what became Camp Minnie Mickey instead of Beastly Kingdom, or whatever it would have been called. I sat on a bench.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5607.jpg
As we walked to catch our bus to AKV, we tried to call and have Bell Services send our luggage up to whatever room we’d been assigned, but they won’t do it unless you’re in the room. Duly noted.

I was disappointed to see that we faced the construction of the new DVC wing—it wasn’t much to look at, and I thought the noise had scared all the animals away from our savannah because we hardly ever saw any (finally, on our last day in the room, we came back in the middle of the day and discovered that’s when all the animals are out).

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5626.jpg

Also, the rooms in the main building are converted hotel rooms, so the studios are not as big as other DVC studios. And, as people have mentioned, there is not a whole lotta storage. Our closet was filled with a portable crib. We just lived out of our suitcases for 5 days.

BUT... you can’t beat having real live giraffes and zebras and ostriches walking around under you balcony!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5609.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5614.jpg

We had the luggage brought up and started getting ready for our dinner at Jiko. I had the not-so-brilliant idea of starting some laundry before dinner so it would be done when we finished. When we called to ask where the free DVC laundry room was, no one seemed to know. We were on hold for 10 minutes before we got directions to a laundry room, but when we got there we found all the machines were coin-operated. So we called from there to ask how DVCers got free laundry and were told just to turn on the machines without putting coins in. That didn’t work, of course, so we called again and were told they’d send a maintenance guy. Ten minutes later he hadn’t arrived, and finally I had to go keep our reservation at Jiko while DH stayed behind to wait. He ended up being 20 minutes late to dinner because it turned out we’d been given directions to the wrong laundry room—there’s a DVC laundry room on the fifth floor.... And we went through all this because I feel compelled to do laundry when it’s free!

Our dinner at Jiko, when we finally got to eat it, was amazing. I’d been waiting years to try the filet with macaroni and cheese, and it was fantastic—but DH’s sturgeon was even better!

Also, they gave us a really sweet card signed by all the servers to congratulate us on our wedding. And we got free pistachio creme brulee. I’m not a big fan of pistachio flavoring so I skipped it and cut into our cake topper for dessert instead. Here’s how it went (note the addition of ice cream!).

I saw you post in another thread and thought to myself, 'self, you haven't wallowed in the smoochtastic goodness that is Carrie and Patrick's weddin in a very long time' so I came over here and viola! I didn't even see the AK stuff when you posted it originally. (For which I will be ashamed for quite some time. )

As always it was great. Ya'll are just so much fun and have such a fabulous time with each other. It's inspiring and lovely and also very informative. Who knew that having a big 'ol bird fly over you looks like a paniced blur? :lmao: Or that the animals at AKL defy all laws of animal viewing and come out in the middle of the dang day? :sad2: Don't they know that's prime animal sleepy time? They should really take a note from my cats; at night you jump around and knock things off counters, the bigger the bang the better, and then around mid-day just sleep like there's no tomorrow because people are awake and waiting for you to do something cute. I mean really.

So you got to look at the National bird of China(construction crane) from your room. I know that DVC'ers have been told that some of the animals will not be let out on some of the savannahs, but I thought that was coming up this spring.

My kids really want to stay at AKV(those darn Samantha Brown shows) but I told them no way until every construction worker and their equipment are off the property. So we're looking at 2009 or 2010, the joy of DVC.:cloud9:

I love you Animal Kingdom Day! I also do love that AK is a one day park! I would much rather spend three days in the Magic Kingdom! LOL The AKL looks wonderful! I am still trying to pick between there and the Wilderness Lodge. We rented points also, and can change resorts in april (we rented at thier home resort of saratoga springs, but it isn't my top choice).

I love Wilderness Lodge! If you want to hit MK heavily VWL is the place for you. You can boat ride over or take the bus(it's about the shortest bus trip at WDW). The bus stop is really close to the villas and at MK Wilderness Lodge is stop #1.

I like SSR for busy times of the year, like Thanksgiving, as the rooms have the best soundproofing, it feels like you're the only one in your building. We like the fact it's close to DTD, we always stay in the Congress Park area and it's about a 10 min walk. We had beautiful weather this Turkey day break and pretty much had the CP quiet pool to ourselves(it's huge) most of the time.

They should really take a note from my cats; at night you jump around and knock things off counters, the bigger the bang the better, and then around mid-day just sleep like there's no tomorrow because people are awake and waiting for you to do something cute. I mean really.

:rotfl: Totally! And don't forget the part where they decide what time you should wake up by meowing and walking on your head (although I don't think I'd like that kind of awakening from, say, a giraffe...)

omg i am so craving your cake right now! that room looks beautiful. i've never stayed at akl before...

The decor is unique, but I think I prefer light and airy to dark and heavy. Of the four places we stayed, Beach Club became my favorite! :cloud9:

The steak and mac and cheese look soooo good!!! Love mac and cheese. Isn't the yeti ride the best!!!! I love that ride!!!!

Yes, but which do you love more? Mac 'n' cheese or Expedition Everest? :lmao:

 I love that show! If you'd like, I can send you an autograph from my parrot (the original Wazzo):

Here he is with his pen, ready to sign for you! ;)

DH cracked up over your pic - we TOTALLY want Wazzo's autograph! :thumbsup2

I want to stay at AKL for my wedding as well.

It's very nice for a honeymoon, especialy with Jiko right there and the romantic(ish) fire pit out back. You could rent DVC points!

I was there at Yak & Yeti, but I wasn't sure if it was you then plus I was behind you in the crowd so Shaun didn't want me to say anything then.

Ah, so you were going all Stealth Bride on me... :rotfl:

I love all of the 'stick the mouse ears on something" pics.

Thanks! It's a great way to not have to be in your own pictures! ;)

I must add the same - how very entertaining your honeymoon TR is :goodvibes Carrie!!! The AKV studios are really neat though; I can't wait to stay in them someday! It does sound like y'all had a blast at AK

Totally - you can stay at AKL and go to AK and almost forget you're in the middle of Florida - it's so nice out there!

So you got to look at the National bird of China(construction crane) from your room.

Hooray for renting points! You know, I think I'll have to agree with Starr - if MK is your fave park, WL is prolly a better bet for most ofyour trip. AKV is so far out there. But it might be good for the last few nights of your trip!

I love all the great pictures from Animal Kingdom. We have been told that they don't run the boats anymore because they had problems with people throwing things in the water that interfered with the animals. Although, I've seen them running several times with Mickey and other characters at various times throughout the day. We saw it most recently when we were eating down by the water near Flaming Tree Barbecue.

Here's a picture. Sorry about the angle, Photobucket is giving me trouble, so I can't copy the rotated image :)

The AK boats - I was apparently one of a small number of people who went to AK soon enough after opening that I did get to ride the boats - you waited in line a while, then got on the boat. As you were on your cruise thru nowhere (before any of Asia was built) some CM's would pull out small animals from carriers and pass them around - snakes, lizards, etc. It was a nice quiet ride, but nothing to see except the small animals. I believe that's why they got rid of it - you waited 20 or 30 min for a 10 min ride to nothing.

Day 7!

Today was Monday… probably… They all blend together at Walt Disney World! It was my first time at MGM Studios, except it wasn’t MGM anymore, it was DHS (which sounds like a discount shoe warehouse). We did the whole get-up-early-and-wait-at-the turnstiles thing, and there were two other brides in the crowd! One turned out to be-Melissa, and the other turned out to be some lucky so-and-so who, along with her groom, got called up to help open the park with the Streetmosphere characters. Secretly, Melissa and I seethed… well, OK, at least I seethed…. After they let us in up to the rope for the stooped opening ceremony that I dinnit want to be a part of anyway, Melissa and I introduced ourselves and DH took a picture of this historic Meeting of the Brides:

Me ‘n’ Meli
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Planning%20Journal/NicoleParis.jpg

When the rope hit the pavement, DH and I were off doing the Disney Speed Walk to Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster. It was exciting to get on another rollercoaster I hadn’t been on yet. I was also excited to see a guy from my all-time favorite sketch comedy group, The State, in the pre-show film with Aerosmith, running the sound board. The ride was, of course, fun. We really liked the take-off into those first loops, but it kinda seemed frontloaded - like it fizzled out at the end.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5629.jpg

Next we dashed over to Tower of Terror and ended up in line with Meli & Shaun again! This was cool because she told us which line was shorter, and we ended up going in that line every time we rode it for the rest of the trip. But I have to ask – is the ride different if you go in the other line?

We only have the lame-o version at California Adventure that doesn’t have the fifth dimension room, but it’s still the only ride left at the Disneyland Resort that can surprise me enough to make me stop breathing (this is a good thing!). So I was excited to try this superior version, and it didn’t disappoint. The up-and-down effect didn’t seem as scary, but the theming was amazing, and I liked how much longer the ride is.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5683.jpg

The exterior of TOT is so pretty, I almost wish we’d done our in-park bridal portrait session at MGM!
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5676.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5677.jpg

OK, everyone always says the Great Movie Ride is lame, but I’d never been on it and I loved the idea of seeing all these great animatronics and scenes from movies. Well… everyone is RIGHT! Oh my goodness – what is up with the actors getting in and out of your car and how slow everything is and just, well, boring? It coulda been so good…. At least we got to walk right up to Grauman’s Chinese Theater without beating a path through tourists and people in ratty superhero costumes selling autographs… (http://www.flickr.com/photos/frankonyc/34635989/)

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5636.jpg

We also had to take a picture of the Carthay Circle Theater cuz we live in the Carthay Circle area of LA, but the theater was torn down long before we moved there. Actually, that was kind of the theme of our trip to MGM – visiting replicas of sites that no longer exist in LA. I love all our old, historic buildings, and it makes me sad that LA doesn’t protect them better. Eating at the Brown Derby in MGM let me imagine for a moment a place I’ll never get to see because it’s now a strip mall.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5630.jpg

Next up was the Backlot Tour – also a big disappointment. Most of the first part (with the water) was them explaining all the stuff we weren’t going to see because it was too cold or windy or something. Whoopee! It was neat to see Walt’s private plane, though!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5638.jpg

I was really looking forward to SciFi Dine-in, and it didn’t disappoint. I love that you get to sit in little cars eating burgers and fries and watching scf-fi trailers – I even saw a few that were spoofed on Mystery Science Theater 3000! We sat in the back of a car with a family in the first two rows, so they called us the hitchhikers. We took advantage of our back-seat location to neck…

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5641.jpg

On our way back to the Lights, Motors Action show we stopped in MuppetLand to look for unique merchandise. Being a puppeteer, DH is of course a huge Muppets fan, and he’d heard that the shop near MuppetVision 3D had stuff you can’t get elsewhere. That turned out not to be entirely true, but it did have the all-time WORST rendering of Animal we’d ever seen:

Uuuuuuuuuuuglyyyyyyyyyy!
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5642.jpg

We didn’t plan very well, so we ended up dashing into LMA right before the show started and getting not-so-great seats. Then we had to run like crazy to make the next showing of the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular.

We are not big on scheduled shows cuz it’s so hard to figure out how to see everything you want to see and we don’t feel like we can play anything by ear – maybe that’s why we were kinda underwhelmed by MGM/DHS. Also, it just felt hot and bare (not enough shade!) and …common. I mean sets and soundstages are just big boxes, after all - it’s not like a jungle river or a fairytale village.

But the Star Wars area was fun! We think they should build an entire Star Wars theme park to counter Universal’s Harry Potter theme park. Just think of all the lands you could have – Tatooine, Hoth, Coruscant… mmmmmmm… Star Warsland…..!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5648.jpg

We checked out the Walt Disney Story exhibit. It was neat to see Walt’s “working” office – we have his “show” office at Disneyland (we lent the working office to Walt Disney World a few years ago).

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5657.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5661.jpg

Also, the models of the various theme park attractions were very cool. It was telling to see the difference in the level of detail between California Adventure’s Grizzly River Run model and that of this area of Tokyo DisneySea:

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5667.jpg

On our way out, we tried to take a picture of the replica of Pixar headquarters they’re building next door:

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5670.jpg

We rode R‘n’R and TOT again, and finally it was time for dinner at the Hollywood Brown Derby – what a treat! I felt like I was stepping back in time. And even better, the food was way better than I expected. I’d say it’s on a par with California Grill, Citrico’s, and even Jiko, for less money. We had the pork belly appetizer and the pork loin – whoops! I wasn’t paying attention when I ordered! No pix – we were so hungry we forgot!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5693.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5690.jpg

The private Bamboo Room can be used for wedding receptions/dinners… but only tiny ones!
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5651.jpg

The plan was for an early dinner (4:30!) followed by Fantasmic!, but we’re not huge Fantasmic! fans (and I’d heard it’s not as good at MGM as at Disneyland…?) so we blew it off to go get sundaes at Ghirardelli and dip our feet in the Jacuzzi back at AKV – fun!

Mecca…
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5699.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5697.jpg

While we were in the Jacuzzi we had some more laundry going (I know! It’s like a sickness!), and afterward we went looking for animals on the main savannah and heard Fantasmic’s fireworks! Then we talked to a nice man at the front desk about getting a map to Celebration for the next day, and then we went to sleep!

Do you know how many times you have to call housekeeping to get this many pillows?!

Yay! Another HM day! Love the pictures, thanks so much for sharing.

Tower of Terror is awesome! Can you share which is the shorter line? I went when on a solo trip and there were no lines. Our kids are still too young but, just like kittens, they do grow up and I'll force them to ride.

I think the Walt exhibit is one of the best things at MGM/DHS. I find that park so difficult to tour, last time we ended up leaving after lunch because it just didn't seem worth fighting the pre-Christmas crowds (our trip was almost over). We did go back at night for the Osborne lights (very cool!) and Fantasmic, which our kids are finally old enough to enjoy without being frightened. They love the music.

We are also not big fans of DHS. In fact, we're skipping it all together this trip. DF is not big on what I call "big kid rides", so I go those by myself, which is usually pretty fast. We hate the LMA show, and that doesn't leave a whole lot else that we really like - we do it all, but we get bored with it. NOw the rest of the parks we do the same rides over and over and love it, just not DHS. We do try to go later and stay for Fantasmic, but we've never seen the one at DLR (I've only been there once on a business trip) so we dont' know we're getting the cheap version! :thumbsup2

Oh my, that's A LOT of pillows! (You'd love my couch, not so much the bed!)

We did MGM on the last day of our Disneymoon in 1997. I guess two days each of Epcot and MK spoiled me, I felt the park was lame. Then again, there wasn't that much to it back then. It helped me form the theory that all new concept Disney parks need five years to hit their stride.

Love the picture of your DH on the speeder, as I've got several of my clan in similar poses. The coolest pictures I have from that park weren't even from my trip, they were from DH's with his friends.

The park had just opened a few months prior and Star Tours had not yet opened. He and his friends were able to snap pictures that make it look like the AT-AT's were about to smoosh them!

So, you didn't share pictures of the meal at Brown Derby. What spectacular food did you have? I've only had one thing from there as a take out item. :lmao: (the Goat Cheese Ravioli, which I think has been removed from the menu again)

Keep those pictures coming!

I thought LMA was OK, but, like the Backlot Tour, they didn't do all the stunts, so maybe I woulda liked it more if I'd seen the whole thing.... And next time you're at DLR, drag your fella to Fantasmic!

Tower of Terror is awesome! Can you share which is the shorter line?

Great MGM day. It is always a 1 day park for us! SO what line in the Tower of Terror!

According to Melissa, the one on the left is the shorter one (I think it kinda goes up some stairs, but I may be misremembering - DCA's goes up a big flight of stairs). :thumbsup2

We are also not big fans of DHS. In fact, we're skipping it all together this trip. ... NOw the rest of the parks we do the same rides over and over and love it, just not DHS.

I know what you mean. I never get tired of the MK rides, but who needs to see the Indy stunt show more than once? ... I think theming and story have a lot to do with it.

I think the only difference in the DLR Fantasmic! is that it's on the Rivers of America and they use the Columbia so it seems more authentic. But I prolly shouldn't get all snooty about ours til I've seen the one at DHS!

Omg :rotfl: I love the massive pile of pillows!

Exactly... or in the case of California Adventure, 10 years! :lmao:

We had the braised pork belly appetizer - sooo delicious, it melts in your mouth - and (because I wasn't thinking about just how much pork I'd ordered) the pork tenderloin. I usually don't order pork in restaurants because it is almost always overcooked, but this was perfect - tender and juicy and really flavorful! I was really impressed by the execution of everything we had at the Brown Derby (we ate there again later in the trip), especially compared to other in-park restaurants, like the Blue Bayou (which I love but which serves chain-restaurant-quality food at fine-dining prices).

Ooh! Ooh! This is fun! OK, let' see...

Fave ride: Oh man, I can't believe I'm saying this, but... Haunted Mansion! Even though Disneyland's Haunted Mansion is my fave ride there, I just love the new stuff at the MK version!

Fave food: That's like asking me who my favorite child is! I guess I'll have to go with our best meal, which was the sturgeon at Jiko, but that peanut-butter-chocolate cake at the Land comes close, as do Ghirardelli sundaes, the pork loin at the Brown Derby, No Way Joses at Beaches & Cream, steak at CA Grill/Artist Point/Yachtsman/etc., Cheetos... the list is endless!

Favorite music: Hearing the music they play on Main Street instantly transports me to the Magic Kingdom, but I'm going to have to go with the old Peoplemover Song...

Favorite Secret Corner: The Carousel of Progress :rotfl: OK, for reals? The semi-secret fireplace sitting area on the third or fourth floor of the Wilderness Lodge, directly above the entrance and looking out over the lobby.

I'm not a big fan of the park formerly known as MGM either. The only reason we end up there is the Star Wars ride, Muppets 3D and Fantasmic. My 11 yr old loves the Movie Ride:headache: . DH thinks Fantasmic is better than Wishes and Illuminations.:headache:. The 6yr old could ride Star Tours all day.:headache:. He also talked about the stunt car show for about a month after we saw it. Luckily we have only sat through that once! :thumbsup2

I think your review of the Brown Derby is one of the few positive ones I've read. We had a "chain" version of the Brown Derby in Cleveland when I was a kid, so I think I may pencil it in on one of our upcoming trips instead of Mama
Melrose.

And yes you can walk back to BCV faster than taking a boat from DHS after Fantasmic.

MGM is a bit of a disappointment but I love TOT and the Beauty and the Beast Show, well Four for a Dollar are the best bit actually so I will always pay it a visit. I prefer Disneyland Fantasmic as well.

Ooh! Ooh! This is fun! OK, let' see...

Favorite music: Hearing the music they play on Main Street instantly transports me to the Magic Kingdom, but I'm going to have to go with the old Peoplemover Song...

:thumbsup2

my favorite food is a classic: chocolate chip cookies on main street, caseys corner hotdogs and anything at starlight ray's cafe. just because i love eating in space.

and there are so many little magic nooks and crannies at disney.

ps. did you guys come across the talking trash can?

Carrie,

I should have said this ages ago but I've been too busy enjoying your TR! :surfweb:  You and Patrick are a magical couple and I can tell that you are truly in love. :lovestruc

Your wedding was the most beautiful wedding I have ever seen. I just goes to show, you do don't need to go all out and over-the-top to have a great wedding. The most important thing is to do something that reflects you both and most importantlt to have fun with your loved ones! I think you guys did that in bucket loads! :dance3:

I hope you are both very happy together for many years to come

That's really interesting, because I usually agree with most of the negative reviews on the Boards... although I eventually stopped reading restaurant reviews on the DIS because it seems like there's always an equal number of positive and negative reviews for every restuarant (except Captain Jack's @ DD :lmao:), so you really just have to try each place for yourself!

Yes - Florida's TOT is clearly superior! :thumbsup2

I just realized I haven't posted yet in your TR...but I've been reading it religiously! I love everything you did...if I was getting married in WDW I would definitely do it in Epcot and your pics really show what a great choice Morocco is! Obviously the Roots are awesome, but you and your DF's energy and creativity really show through in everything! I'm glad you had such a great wedding and honeymoon and thanks for posting all the pics!

PS Did your hipster friends ever venture downtown? ;)

No, and it's starting to bug me.... The contract said we'd get it a month after the wedding, but we told her she could have extra time because we wanted to add in some pictures of my mom, which meant we had to scan and email them to her. Well in a few days it will be two months, and our at-home reception is coming up in about three weeks, so I'm getting antsy.... I'll definitely post here when she puts our demo reel online!

Gee, thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying the trippie!

And yes, I believe our hipster friends did go downtown Saturday night. What is even more amazing - they fell in love with Celebration and went twice, and they decided to spend a day in Epcot and had a blast! I was so happy that they ended up having a great time!

Day 8

The plan for Tuesday was to meet our wedding photographers at the Market Street Cafe in Celebration for brunch. Unfortunately, Jensey got really sick a few days before (and then Nathan got sick a few days later) so we couldn’t meet up. We were really bummed because we had been looking forward to actually having a conversation instead of just striking poses for them! We’d also been looking forward to exploring Celebration, which we’d never seen before, so we decided to go anyway.

Now, just to show you what dorks we are, we wore our bride and groom mouse ears off property to Celebration! We figured it was prolly the only non-Disney place in the world that we could get away with it, and we got lots of nice congratulations. Our brunch at the Market Street Cafe was really good. I think DH had an omelet, and I had chocolate chip pancakes and bacon. We didn’t have room, but I insisted that we split a piece of coconut cream pie for dessert (yes, we had dessert with our breakfast – it was our honeymoon!). It was A-friggin-mazing!

Sorry there are no pictures. I’m not sure why we didn’t take any (oh wait – maybe b/c originally we were gonna let Nathan & Jensey do all the work!). So I borrowed some from the Internets for you...

Market Street Cafe

Not actual Market Street Cafe coconut cream pie, but just as tasty-looking!
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/Coconutcreampie.jpg

After brunch we waddled around Celebration’s lake, where we found this disturbing sign...
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/alligatorssign.jpg

So... there are alligators in Celebration’s lake? Then we sneaked into the residents-only recreation center at the park (not worth the jail time, let me tell ya!) and stopped at the fountain.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/Celebrationfountain.jpg

We struck up a conversation with a family there, and it turned out the dad not only works at Epcot in special events, but he knows our wedding planner! AND he told us they’d just done a scuba wedding in the Living Seas tank! (And our WP thought our wedding was unusual?!). Across the street, next to the movie theater, I discovered the combo fudge/ice cream shop Kilwin’s – be still, my beating heart! Unfortunately, I was too stuffed full of pancakes, pie, etc. to partake, but I vowed to return before we left Florida. It started to rain, so we ducked into these shops...

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/shopsCelebration.jpg

With the rain, we were glad we’d not gone out to the parks to take pictures with the Roots (although it would have been great weather for this “trash the dress” thing all wedding photographers seem to be really into!).

Next we decided to play miniature golf at Winter Summerland. I wore my screaming yellow poncho, which amused DH to no end.

That yellow blob is me in my foxy poncho!
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5706.jpg

The kind gentleman working the register gave us a free round of golf for being newlyweds, so we decided to try the winter course and the summer course. The theming was great, but it seemed like a lot of the effects weren’t working on the winter side.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5704.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5707.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5712.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5714.jpg

Not only did we get the one round free, we also got free Mickey golf balls AND I won both games – hooray! We (OK, I) decided that the loser of the first round had to buy the winner a souvenir, and the winner of the second round had to buy the loser a souvenir, so that meant we each owed each other a prize.

Next up: resort hopping! We started with Coronado Springs cuz it was closest. I was really surprised – I’d always assumed it would be my least favorite Moderate b/c I thought it would be all rocks and dirt and the occasional cactus. But the grounds were quite lush, and the common areas were a lot nicer and a lot less like Taco Bell than I’d imagined. DH was fascinated by the pool...

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5717.jpg

Next we hit Caribbean Beach Resort. Our aunt and uncle honeymooned in Jamaica, and after staying at CBR for our wedding, they declared it very authentic. When I started planning my first trip to WDW as an adult (eight years ago!!), I thought I wanted to stay at CBR, but today, after seeing the food court, I decided another of the Moderates would be my favorite. (Every resort we went to, DH wanted to see the pool and I wanted to see the restaurant/food court). The pool was being rehabbed...

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5719.jpg

We’d seen Old Key West when we met my family there at Olivia’s, but we drove around the grounds a bit to get a feel for it in daylight. Then we went to Port Orleans French Quarter, the Moderate I thought would be my favorite. I was kind of surprised to find I didn’t care for the theming at all. I must’ve thought it would look more like New Orleans Square at Disneyland, but it seemed a lot less detailed and more generic... and kinda ’80s, somehow!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5723.jpg

Now, I thought I’d heard you could get pralines at the food court at POFQ, but nobody knew what I was talking about. So we had beignets and Cheetos (I know – what was up with that? I never eat Cheetos! I think I was turning into a duck...) Talk about messy! I was covered in white powdered sugar and fluorescent orange powdered cheese!

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5725.jpg

Look who’s wearing a doofy poncho NOW!
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5729.jpg

After DH’s narrow escape from the jaws of an alligator, we got in the car and headed for Port Orleans Riverside. I suppose it would be a crummy place to stay if you had to walk everywhere, but we both fell in love with the theming. It seemed much more Disney than the New Orleans-esque overlay feeling of POFQ.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5732.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5731.jpg

We went out back to the water wheel and dashed to the pool through a downpour. While DH explored the pool in the rain, I hung out on the porch of the pool bar, which felt even more quaint and Southern with the rain tapping on the roof. We found our prizes in the POR gift shop – a box of WDW stickers for DH (they were cool – like mini attraction posters and vintage characters and stuff!) and an anime version of Eeyore on a key chain for me. No pix – d’oh!

Next we tried to see Ft. Wilderness but were thwarted by the transportation system there – I hadn’t realized that they make you leave your car and take their internal bus system to get around. This made me grumpy, so we drove straight to Wilderness Lodge, where our dinner reservations were. It was a good thing, too, because it started pouring again as soon as we got inside. Our Artist Point reservation was for 8:30 pm (the only time I could get when I had to rejigger our schedule due to fireworks changes about a month before we left). But they took us at 5pm right when they opened, and we got a lovely seat right by the window.

Our meal was amazing. (Sorry we don’t have pix – I think today was the day we got tired of all the picture taking.) We split the mushroom soup and the salmon, which DH raved about. Afterward we got free berry cobbler for being newlyweds! DH got to eat it all by himself because I don’t like fruit. For my dessert I later decided to try the ginormous brownie they sell at Roaring Forks, on the recommendation of the same fellow DISer who steered us toward the France Pavilion’s chocolate mousse. It was HUGE... and hugely delicious!

After dinner we explored WL. We walked around each level and read about the different rocks and fossils found in each stratum of the Grand Canyon. We “discovered” a little nook on the third or fourth floor directly over the entrance, with a fireplace, comfy chairs and a fantastic view of the lobby.

(Not actual view)
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5733.jpg

We walked down to the DVC wing to check out the Iron Spike Room (wait – I think they just renamed it something else...) and were excited to see on display the train Walt used to ride around his backyard in Holmby Hills.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5736.jpg

I was also excited to see actual families actually sitting in there playing actual games, just like in the DVC ads! (Although the DVC rep we kept running into all over WDW may have been there manipulating this photo op from behind the scenes!). We liked the animal carvings in the beams of the elevator lobby, but there was something about the overall feel of the place that I didn’t like as much as some of the other DVC resorts we’d seen.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Honeymoon/IMG_5739.jpg

We headed back to the main lobby so I could eat my Gigantic Brownie (or 1/3 of it, any way) in our fave nook. We were really sleepy, so we decided to call it a night and return to our resort. But, just like in a Jerry Bruckheimer movie, that turned out to be a false ending...

As we were walking out to the parking lot, we heard the MK fireworks start and caught a few glimpses. I thought maybe we could see them better from the patio at the front of the resort above the entry, so we dashed back inside, ran up the stairs, tripped over the doorsill, and stumbled out onto the patio only to see.... nothing. So we tripped back over the doorsill (I mean really, why is that thing 3 inches high? Isn’t everything supposed to be wheelchair accessible these days?), tumbled down the stairs, and sprinted for the dock. But by the time we got down there, the fireworks were over. However, a boat had just arrived, so on a whim we took it over to the Magic Kingdom and got there 30 minutes before closing time. We went straight to Big Thunder Mountain and got to ride it twice in a row because there was hardly anyone else there!

Then it was back to the boat, back to the Lodge, back to our car, and headed for the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We were really tired. DH was trying to perk me up by making up some silly story about an Indian spirit of the Wilderness Lodge named Panchuto, but I wasn’t having it -- until we got to AKV and were trudging up the stairs from the parking lot, when I tried to exclaim “Praise Panchuto – we’re home!” but couldn’t get past “Praise P--” because this seemed SOOOO funny (Ed. note: This is one of those “you had to be there” stories). We were in hysterics, staggering past the valet stand – I’m sure we looked drunk. But if our honeymoon were a movie, this scene – heck, the whole day – would definitely be in the “having fun together” montage...

And STILL we didn’t go to sleep! Instead we sat on the deck watching the rain and got to see a group of zebras dash by....

Next up: Epcot... again!

Your picture of POFQ reminds me of our local Holiday Inn-French Quarter(built in the 70's) it looks the same. It probably doesn't smell like chlorine from the indoor pool though.

Sorry to say, there are gators EVERYWHERE in Florida! No body of water goes untouched. Except in WDW, where they do their best to scoop 'em out and ship 'em down to the Everglades. But I don't imagine Celebration goes to such lengths; it's really fighting a losing battle, after all.

Great update!

I have always hated Coronado springs in my mind. It sounded huge & full of conventioneers. But we visited last time and it's lovely. The pepper market had great food, but having a server sucked. Ours brought the complicated drinks and then disappeared forever, leaving 2 of us thirsty. We were right next to the soda machine but were scolded when we tried to get our own cokes!

I know I have posted on your boards before and I just wanted to let you know that I have really enjoyed reading all your planning and updates. Your photos are just wonderful

We are getting married in Epcot in Italy this coming November and one of my favorite pictures of your ceremony is the one with the pink flowers on the aisle and the pink flowers being tossed. We just received our floral proposal and as our colors are white and red, I requested red petals for the aisle. My proposal states red rose petal fabric aisle runner for $700.00 - ouch. Is that what yours was only in pink? Are the petals made of fabric or is this a quote for red petals put on a fabric runner? Not sure if you know or not but I was wondering what your petal aisle was considered and if you remember the cost? This seem very high for petals on the aisle. I know we can't bring our own because then we would have to clean them up and I don't want to carry a broom to our ceremony.

Thanks for your help,
Linda

Aisle Petals
One thing I have insisted on this whole time is fuchsia rose petals scattered in the aisle – not mounds and mounds, just a scattering. I think it will look really nice in pictures. Everybody keeps telling me they will blow away before the ceremony, but I don’t care. If I want to throw away 50 bucks on MIA rose petals, I can! [stamps foot]

Ok - I just found the above in your planning journal. Were you charged just $50 for the petals on your aisle? If so, what are they charging me $700 for? I can do $50 or even $100 but $700 is just too much. I am also going to go with getting my petals for the petal toss from them. Like you said $3.50 a bag and they set them out on the chairs for you is fine as opposed to making them myself. I actually already purchased a box of bubbles at Michaels with a 50% off coupon so they were really inexpensive. I haven't returned them yet so I might just do a combo of petals and bubbles.

Thanks,
Linda

HOORAY!!!! :yay: (And I think they're actually worth negative calories when dessert's free!)

I have always hated Coronado springs in my mind. It sounded huge & full of conventioneers.

:rotfl: Yes, there were a lot of conventioneers...

Were you charged just $50 for the petals on your aisle? If so, what are they charging me $700 for?

The $50 was for just rose petals. If I had asked for mounds of rose petals, it would have been more, but I just wanted a scattering. I think the $700 is, as you surmised, for a fabric aisle runner with petals on top of it (which, if they're both red, kinda defeats the purpose of the petals cuz you won't be able to see 'em!). I bet you just need to clarify with your floral planner that all you want is the petals - when they aren't sure, they seem to err on the side of expensive! :lmao:

Also, regarding bubbles, I have to say they just don't seem to show up as well as petals in pictures - if that's important to you. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info on the petals. I am sure I will be able to work this out.

As far as bubbles go - yes after looking at alot of photos I realize you do not see the bubbles as well as the petals. We are definately doing petals and as the package of bubbles I purchased was about 20 I might just bring these also and have a few guests use them. This would combine the petals and bubbles together.

We still need to talk to Sage about some technical glitches with the disc she sent us, but I'll post a full review of how that goes once she's had a chance to fix them....

OK, so, as Boo discovered, Sage has posted a demo of our wedding video on her site. Let me warn you, some of the edits are real head-scratchers (i.e., 40 seconds of buildup to our first look, but no actual first look, just a cut to me on the stairs... ), but the full video hangs together better.

See what you mean about the first look not happening!

I like the bit where the picture changes from black and white to colour - very pretty!

I see what you mean also, but I'm sure once you talk to them, it will be perfect!

And holy crap... I didn't think it was possible for your cake to look even more amazing. They did a phenomenal job shooting it! i may have to get cake right after lunch! They have red velvet in the cafeteria upstairs! Whoo hoo! :yay:

Wow Carrie, your video is absolutely smoochtastic! ;) You two look like movie stars. I can't believe the audacity of that one "fresh" flower petal that tried to dive down your dress as you're walking back down the aisle with DH! :scared1: :lmao: :rotfl: Beautiful demo...the full video must be amazing!

Gorgeous! Your wedding was absolutely beautiful! Morocco was such a great choice!

And I love the friendship boat! I am waiting to hear if we can have one too! She doesnt think they run before the park opens :headache: but is checking on it! (cross your fingers) Thanks to your "first look" we have decided to do the same! :)

I loved your video! It was so awesome! I will be trying to recreate that myself (with help from my MAC) with the vieos taken at our wedding. Your cake was stunning! It was so amazing! I also loved the flower petals! You were a beautiful bride. I do love the locket hanging down your back so much I am going to try to get one for my Mom's picture!

I concur--Definately Smoochtastic!

I laughed as I noticed the rogue rose petal sneaking into the bodice of your dress! :rotfl:

The quality of the video is good, but you're right, the editing needs some work. I was dying to see Patrick's little "so in love" face for the first look. It's so evident in all of your pictures and videos that you two are in love! BIG TIME!

I would love to hang out with you guys, you seem like lots of fun! Too bad we're half way across the country from each other! :rotfl2: It's a little tough to hang out that way!

Great video!

I thought it was wonderful. I noticed the first look but I could overlook that with all the amazing shots I saw. I bet the full version is beyond amazing. I absolutely loved your wedding.

From the location to your dress/flowers to the reception (and red velvet cake) and of course the dessert party.

I'm living vicariously through your reports.

:rotfl2: HIGH-larious - mail me a piece! Yeah, I love that in our pictures and on the video, the cake looks like the colors it was supposed to be, not the colors it actually was!

:rotfl: "Fresh" - I love it!!

If you have a Mac, it'll be easy and turn out great! (OK, I'm a Mac :snooty: )

Well surely one day you'll get tired of WDW (:cutie: ) and decide you need to see Disneyland, and then we can meet! You know you want to try a Monte Cristo sandwich in New Orleans Square....:p

I absolutely loved your wedding. From the location to your dress/flowers to the reception (and red velvet cake) and of course the dessert party. I'm living vicariously through your reports.

Aw, thanks! I will try to get another installment of the report up soon (hint: Cheetos do not make an appearance this time...)

It was so cute to see you both laughing and having a good time then the look of surprise on your face when you realized a petal had fell in your bodice :goodvibes

The video was beautiful (I am at work and alas no sound, so I will have to watch again later.) I do agree it was strange how they left out the first look, I'm sure the full-length version is amazing!

What's funny is that my younger son had just popped the Incredibles DVD in and came running to say "Mom, if you want to watch that movie, I just put it on." Too funny.

Die no longer - it's up! We got the full video yesterday and have already watched it 3 or 4 times - I even watched it on my lunch hour today! I love that it's an entire hour long; we got all the speeches, the entire ceremony, and nice long clips of our first dances!

Well gorsh! I dunno what's up! If I go to the home page (not the wedding page) using Safari or Firefox as my browser, I can see it - it either starts automatically (Safari) or I click play (Firefox). If I go to the Weddings page, it's someone else's video and it doesn't load very well.

Home page: http://www.starfruitprod.com/

I don't have a PC at home to check if it works for Internet Exploder, but I watched it yesterday on a PC and IE yesterday and it loaded fine.

Wowee! That was awesome! I love the music, esp when the ceremony part starts and it gets all jazzy! Also, you guys look awesome on the boat, I gotta figure out a way to incorporate a boat into my wedding, it just looks so classy and romantic. And, nice dance moves! I wonder if there's any way I can talk my DF into dancing lessons? Hmm...

Yes - that jazzy song was the one we played when DH walked down the aisle. It's from "The Incredibles." The third song on the demo was one of the bossa nova tunes we played at the reception.

You should TOTALLY take dance lessons - we took swing, which is fairly easy and lots of fun. Just show DF the movie "Swingers" - he'll see how cool he could look!

We actually had to stop lessons after we got engaged cuz we were too busy planning the wedding, but we remembered enough to put some moves together for our first dance. ...Now dancing the cha cha with my dad was another story... :rotfl:

Do you guys still swing dance at Disneyland, Carrie?

DB went to Mexico during his spring break and came back obsessed with dancing. I don't know what happened to him over there. I told him my new job gives me weekends off, and he said, "Good! Cuz we'll be dancin'!" :rotfl:
