I remember reading something about this on the boards before, but can't remember the specifics. Can someone give me the details on it....when it starts, how long it lasts, etc. Thinking about catching it before supper at Kona. Thanks for the info!

When we stayed at the Poly . . .we caught the torch lighting a couple nights . . .although I'm not sure which ones . . .I don't know if it was every night or just certain nights.
They gathered people in the GCH lobby and took us outside. Then there were some drums and singing and then the fire guy came and did a fire dance and then ran around lighting the torches in front . . .
You have to see it at least once . . .my DS loved it!

TLC is at 6:00pm Tues-Sat. Or at least it was in Sept.
Wish Upon A Star explained it well. Its a nice little extra touch to add to the theming of the Poly.

Just returned from the Poly.
Torch lighting ceremony while we were there was a guy in a baseball cap, driving a John Deere gator (like a quad) with a long lighter and he drove from torch to torch, stood up, and lit the torch. Very moving.

The Torch Lighting Ceremony is held Tuesday- Saturday at 6:00 p.m. in the GCH. They light the tourches at the entrance. The rest of the grounds are lit each night by grounds staff.

Ahhh!!! Thanks Tikiman.
I envisioned a tanned, buff, Polynesian man with a ring of leaves on his head wearing nothing but a loin cloth, running around from torch to torch on the property, lighting each one from his torch.
Imagine my surprise when a 50 year old man on a quad shows up wearing a dirty jumpsuit and a basball cap.

travlnman1,
You must have busted up laughing. Maybe I will take a picture of the old guy in the cart and put it under my info for the lighting ceremony:D

In Aug we watched the ceremony one night. It is very short. A Polynesian guy in a small "loin-clothy" thing and a drummer are there. He does a little dance and then runs up and lights torchs near the front entrance. My two kids (6 and 8) were majorly disappointed in the show. I also had thought we'd see more of a show. I wouldn't go out of your way for it, but if you plan to be at the Poly around that time, definitely go watch. -HM
