I have been reading the boards all night looking for somewhere to post this. We are planning for 2009 but can not decide when to go. These are the important points to us in order. $$$ we want the best value avaiable, weather, hopefully not too hot. Crowds, on a scale from 1-10 10 being highest we would like a 7 or lower. Finally, after Sept 2009 we probably won't want to take our High Schooler out of school. That is a lot of criteria but I am sure there is a month that would fit our bill. Any suggests or help???

Already put down the deposit on 4 night land staying at the Poly and 3 nights DCL. Really excited!!! I have always wanted to stay at the Poly and do the DCL. Early booking rate made it possible.

The only problem is that it is so far away!!!

Jan 10-19th POFQ!!! I can't wait!! I work in the backroom at Target ( I know you are all jealous) and every expiration date I see I think ooh, that is still good when I go to Disney again or that expires before Disney. It's obsessive. We have our plane tix already ($234 from Detroit to Orlando :cool1: ) but haven't booked our package yet. My BIL and MIL are joining us and my BIL and I are already swapping spreadsheets for ADRs and other plans. And of course I check the boards at least once a day! Let's hope time flies!

We're hoping for February school vacation '09. I know, crazy, but the kids will be in 8th and 10th grade then and we don't want to take them out of school and summer is just TOO hot down there (speaking from where we have 6+ inches of snow on the ground right now)

If you don't want hot, stay away from summer.....:lmao:

April and May temp wise was very nice.....

Crowds.....Stay away from holidays, if you can take the kids out of school in the spring...go 4 it! If not, you have Easter Break....We were off the week before Easter 2005 and the crowds were about a "7" but we left the thursday before Easter Friday, so we missed the BIG Crowd. But the weather was PERFECT!!!

I think the Value times are right after New Years until the first of March and the couple weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you can take the heat and humidity, mid August is cheaper than early summer b/c FL schools start back.....

Can anyone else add???

There are ups and downs for both resort....

Themeing is great for both resorts

The Wilderness shares the buses with the Campground
ASMu shares with the other All-Star resorts

Wilderness does not have a food court
ASMu only has a food court

Rooms are smaller at ASMu but unless you have a suite, its not that big of a size difference at Wilderness

Younger kids tend to like the ASMu, while older like the Wilderness (not always the case, just depends on personal preference!)

Taking with DH and we have decided to move up our trip to June 2009 and guess what....We are staying at the POLY!!!!! I am so excited!!!

Our girls get out of school the first week in June, so we talked with DH's mom, who is a teacher and that last week...the kids do not do anything...so we are just going to take them out and fly to Disney for a vacation!!! We thought that this was better than taking them out of school between Thanksgiving and Christmas....

THanks so much! i really dont know what to expect :upsidedow . We were supposed to go this year (would have been our sons first trip) but we booked the trip before we knew we were pregnant (again). Turns out the date we booked for this year is the due date of the new baby! :rolleyes: I hear horror stories but good stories as well. I dont have any expectations but just hoping that we will all have a good time! All I do know is that this year we booked the Poly and I am hoping and wishing it will be available for us next year. Never stayed there and the resort looks amazing... Plus I think the tram will be a big help!

We're going January 17-24, 2009!!!!!!! We will hopefully be doing a split stay between resorts...CSR and then AKL. I tried getting a quote yesterday, but was quoted a ridiculous amount (additional $75 per night at Mod, and additional $115 at a deluxe), so I think I'll wait until the rates are released to make the reservations. There is no way rates can go up that much during a value season, right?

All I do know is that this year we booked the Poly and I am hoping and wishing it will be available for us next year. Never stayed there and the resort looks amazing... Plus I think the tram will be a big help!

Check this upcoming August for 2009 rates and you might want to go ahead and book then too. I called for June of 2009 and the Poly is already half booked....I am saving the deposit $$$ but the way things are going in my life right now I might have to wait until rates come out and put down the $200. So keep you fingers crossed for me.....

The way I understand it is that you can book up to 500 days out. You won't be able to confirm your rates until the 2009 rates are released, but you can make the room reservation and deposit based on 2008 rates.

Staying offsite in a 5 bedroom pool home in Formosa Gardens Estates.
And my 10 day park hoppers came in the mail yesterday!!!

From reading the boards I expect that Memorial Day wknd will be pretty busy at the parks so I am planning on using one of those days to do Discovery Cove. I tried to reserve that too, but they only book a year in advance.

So, in October I conned him into going Thanksgiving 2008 (to see the Christmas decorations was my motive-not really, I missed the mouse). DS and I were having withdrawals. This will be our first trip staying on property and we are staying at the CR-MK View.

So, Easter Sunday we are sitting home bored and aggravated as it was soo cold. He looks at me and says book Spring Break 2009 trip in Florida, part beach and part Disney.:banana: :banana: :banana: :banana:

We are going April 2009 and staying at AK Lodge-Savanna View. I booked the rooms yesterday. I think I am going to get an Annual Pass as it appears to save money. Are there any other perks I need to know about?

We are planning a March 2009 trip and DH has been ok with going, but not thrilled.... We are also hoping to start a family very soon :goodvibes Out of nowhere he tells me today that he wants to do Disney World in March 2009, Land/Sea in February 2010, and Land/Sea in November 2011!!!! He wants to do the 4 night Bahamian cruise and then 7 nights at WDW for the 2010 and 2011 trips.

The only slight downside is that after these three trips he wants to wait until our little one is at least 44 inches tall so that he/she can enjoy most of the rides :) Not a problem with me at all!! I am really super excited!!!

Where can you book for 2009? Disney website?

You can't book beyond Dec '08 on the website, but you can book a room only ressie by phone using "projected" rates. You can always call back later, like August I think, and have actual '09 rates, package rates, or discount rates applied. I wanted to be sure to get the spaces I wanted, so I booked my rooms now, planning to try to get AAA discount when those come out. Probably not necessary to book quite so early, but I'm a little neurotic that way.:crazy:

Very cool!!!!!! We were there during the marathon so it wasn't "empty" but we never waited more than 30-40 minutes for the top rides. I'm sure we could have dodged those lines better but it was our first trip ever, we were just married, and sorta just floating.....

We will be booking with the DVC member around the end of the summer and then we plan to wait to book the package through Disney around Nov-Dec - the package rates will be out by then :)

We have a room at CSR booked Jan 8-11 for the Half Marathon. DH and I are going with our best friends (they have their own room) and no kiddos! Then 1/11-1/15 we are off to Sandals in the Bahamas. Really looking forward to this adventure!

And going in August with my oldest dd. She is turning 12 in August and deal is 12th birthday= Mom and Me trip (nice rule I made up huh?). So we will go I hope the 3rd week of August. DH is off 3rd and 4th weeks each August so he'll be able to be home with the other kids. I hope to go Sunday-Friday or Saturday. Not sure where yet. Would LOVE to do Poly. We'll have to compare some numbers. Won't be booking this one for a little while.

Tokyo Disney is great. I only went to DisneySea but recommend it highly to any Disney fan.

We stayed at AKL for our honeymoon in January and we LOVED it!!!!! We also did DxDDP and LOVED it as well!!!! This time we are taking my mom and dad - they have never been to Disney World before :goodvibes I am so excited to take them!!! My mom had originally wanted to stay at AKL but there was just no way we could afford 7 nights in a savannah view room... Then I discovered DVC point rental :) We are staying Friday and Saturday at POP since DVC points are extremely high for those nights, and then 5 nights at AKV. I am really, really, really excited about this trip! From what I heard the new building at AKL/AKV is to be finished in early 2009 - if all goes according to plan it should be completed and we will be able to request this building!! We will be getting 2 Savannah View Studios :worship:

You can make a room only reservation, you have to put down a one night deposit. I did it through Small World vacations.

(I apologize if this has already been asked) How are all you giving your vacation dates and resorts when the WDW website isn't taking reservations for 2009 yet? Are you just saying where you are planning to make reservations or am I missing something? Thanks!

You can make reservation 500 days out from the last day of yur planed vacation. I just contacted my TA yesterday and I will be booked for my September 09 trip next week-end. At first I thought it was 500 fromt the day you would arrive but its based on your last(check out) day. I hope that explains it for you.

We just booked our May 2-10, 2009 vacation last week. We are not going through a travel agent - we just called Disney and were told that we could go ahead and book "room only" right now (since the 2009 rates aren't out at this time) - we put $133 deposit down per room (staying in 3 rooms at Pop Century) - the packages with the 2009 rates come out in July/August, we were told to call back to "upgrade" to the package at that time, then it will be a $200 per room deposit and our first deposit will be refunded.

So to answer your question, you don't get the 2008 rates if you book now - they just wait and you "upgrade" when the new rates come out. That is okay with us though, I just feel better knowing that we at least have our room reserved at this point.

We did the same thing a couple of weeks ago. Our AAA travel agent said that 2009 prices come out in June but the packages aren't available until August.

Yes we had Mothers Day way back in March and Father's day is the middle of June. DH is pushing to go to the World in May next year as opposed to the end of June...this would mean I get to have 2 Mother's Day's:cool1:

Closer to the end of this year we can start the "Months" Forum for 2009. Those usually have the exact dates that people are going plus where they are staying. It is exciting at that point to see some going the very time time as you as well as who will be at the same resort too.

When I called Disney to book our "room only" the CM told me that you could book 499 days ahead. This was several weeks ago when I called just to get information, at that time they were booking through Sept of 2009.

We'll be there May 4-11th, 2009. We love May-went last May, just came back last week so next year we're doing May again. What's the saying? if it ain't broke don't fix it. We're doing POR for 5 nights and the last 2 at WL. Can't wait, it's our first on-site stay with our girls. Last year hubby and I got away for a 4night/5day getaway for our anniversary and 30th birthday celebration, so this this time we'll all share in more of the Disney magic by staying on property.

Good news for me! We have "up"ed our trip to end of April or first part of
May. We won't be staying a whole week this time but a 5 day trip is still just as nice!:cool1: I am hoping it won't be so hot!:headache:

We could do the week if we went in June but we have to fly to Wisc. the early part of August for a family reunion. I will need a longer break then six weeks between trips. :sad2: ;) So Dh and I talked about it yesterday and thought that end of April or Early May would still be nice weather wise and the girls would only miss three days of school instead of a whole week.

I tell you it made me smile evertime i got a photpass picture taken because I knew I only paid about $20 to get them! :lol: I think I used it more knowing it was prepaid and no matter how they turned out I only spent $20!

DH was happy too because he was dead set against spending $100 for them.

We hit a milestone this week. Our party of 10 booked our vacation home in windsor hills. We chose Mickey's Clubhouse. Getting this part decided on makes the trip seem so much more real. I am itching to do some serious planning, but with our summer schedules, there is not much down time:laundy: I just got on amazon.com and added the 2009 guides to my wish list and most will be released around August or September. I just got back from our first WDW visit and I am HOOKED. I'm planning on going back around Mardi Gras. The schools,my work,and daycare's are closed around here the Monday and Tuesday so I'll just take the rest of the week off and go for an entire week! I can't wait it was SO much fun!!!.
