I agree with this - if you don't want to spend a lot of $$ - you can always find someone on Medrano beach or by the dock to take you out there. That is what we did - we ended up paying less than $15 to have him take us to the "Eye of the World" and the Arch.

. . . Usually pretty safe but I prefer to err on the side of caution - let someone know if your going on your own and who the boat owner is. . . I've had nothing but good experience out there as most rely heavily on tourists to make a living but you can never be too cautious right?
Laura - Thanks for the sound advice.

Great! I'll email you...I think I might have missed something. Who is Mrs. Bennett? Sorry if I should know. I'm a bit slow!
Lisa

I look forward to getting your email.

No, you probably haven't missed anything. I've been going on and on ever since I found and fell in love and lusted after a Chumby. One names one's Chumby. I've ordered one, and I've decided to call it Mrs. Bennett.

My own little planet is a very happy place indeed.

Yup! remember quite well - I was running around trying to get my right angle picture of the arch (I'd forgotten I'd already taken the tour then) But the angle sorta felt like you had a head cold and your ears were stuffed up. There were a couple of people on deck 10 having fun making up scenarios on how the capt was going to get the anchor up - the strongest was that they were going to get some CM's in wet suits and they were going to "unstick" the anchor - hey - we were bored - what can I say?
I'd say too many DODs. (Just kidding!)

wow - now these cameras take two batteries...mine takes 4!

I know.. my old olympus used 4... Make sure that you get the good batteries for electronics!!! This camera ate regular batteries when I used it for my nephew's play last week...

non MAC users....what laptop would you recommend? I would primarily use it for the net, and work - which is excel based and net based....downloading pics, etc.

I think you can get excel on a mac now... anyone???

We've purchased a Mickey vest and tie from the Tuxxman. He is great to deal with!!! :thumbsup2

I sent him an email earlier, asking about his inventory, prices, what he recommends, etc.

The thought of owning my set of tails is even MORE exciting.

I'm sort of picturing myself wearing them to the supermarket, Home Depot (I can just see myself in Home Depot, "My good man, can you recommend a tool belt for a formal occasion?" or the conversations in the supermarket, "No one seems to dress anymore when shopping for dinner.")

I might just start wearing tails, everywhere!

At any rate, I look forward to hearing back from Tuxxman.

Yes, as they were pulling it up they had problems. Kept thinking if they moved the ship in circles and kept tilting us from side to side it might correct itself, but it didn't, so they had to bring in manually. I wonder how many CM's had to hand crank that thing to get the anchor up?

Thank you Angie,

The reality of the situation is that raising my two is no more difficult than raising "normal" kids, just different sets of problems. There are some silverlinings to having my boys too...instead of a college fund, I get to take them on these cruises, :cool1: I don't have to worry about them doing recreational drugs:scared: , and neither has a girlfriend yet!:rotfl2:

Look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Well I think he is in shock! Took him a few minutes even with Brent telling him several times that he was going on the cruise too. Then the "I can't get off in June since I'm off in May and July" started(he thought we were going to Myrtle Beach in May so I had to tell him that my cruise was in June). Once all the facts were out he understood. I'm sure when Brent goes home later I will get more questions. What I think is funny is that Brent needed to tell him so he could discuss some things with him . The things were-that the first thing they are going to do is go down the hall to Beat Street and see the traffic light and then they are going to play shuffleboard. The things a kid thinks are important!

Now to get him on this board!

I have a really small Sony (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8440234&type=product&id=1183160354020) point and shoot and I really love it. Not sure what kind people are looking for but I love mine. It is so light and small you can put it on a lanyard and wear it around your neck when out and about.

Scott and I each have one of these too. We love how small it is and easy to carry around. Takes great pics, but bit of a delay so I miss any action shots unless I do the action mode where it takes 16 pics in 16 seconds. And, last i looked V it came in pink!:thumbsup2 But this takes the memory stick duo's so you would need new memory cards:sad2:

Our friend is over and making our juices for the week. Fasting with juicing will be pretty interesting...started tomorrow. We have two juices:
1) celery, spinach, apple, cucumber and
2) watermelon & apple
Kaylee, are these juices like the ones you do?
We are commited to do it for one week. Our friend has done it for 34 days. Wow!
Lisa

I have done juicing in the past but with our expensive veggie selections and such I don't do it in the winter. What I do is a raw powder that contains fruits, veggies, and nuts that mixes in water. I drink 1 different powder every 2 hours 7x a day. I usually make it about 5 days and then I just miss chewing food too much. I am never hungry and have tons of energy...I just miss the joy of eating food if that makes sense.

Good luck!!!

the canon s5 is $399 is that a good price? is this an up to date camera? I guessI sould head to the photo board....

S5 is the latest V... should be a good choice for the long term - and good to have a good camera for the girls... get good batteries and take out the service plan...

Start the letter then you can fill in the blanks later!

Dear Mr. McAlpin...

I am PISSED....

(more to come...)

I think they really should open more. It just doesn't make sense to tell customers you can sign up before the cruise, but then not have 1 time available....here's wishing you a lot of pixiedust:
Lisa

I think they should have at least one slot open for each person/stateroom on this long a cruise.

& thanks for the pixie dust... us pixies can use all we can get!!!

I want to hear this story.....or do I? :confused3

Woody

Had the nun from HE**... she was bonkers then... abused many children... sold Avon on the side... they put her away eventually but she forced me to eat my brothers lunch instead of letting me go across the hall to change it and from then on... no mustard...

& I hated school until 11th grade because of her...

Don't worry I am hard on electronics also. I had an HP laptop and it started acting up, then I tripped over the cord sending it flying to the floor. It did not survive, so I called my mom crying I had killed my laptop. She bought me my current gateway and the screen flickers on and off.

Last year on the cruise DH dropped my camera, it survived but with some damage. So I got the Canon S5 for christmas.

Our new TV, the DVD player is broken. I obviously was not meant to have electronic devices. Although my IPOD is still alive but only b/c I never use it. I even had to call tech support for my cricut.

Wow- a sister in kind! Do you go through watches like they are smarties? I mentioned earlier that I have 18 that I cleaned out from my drawer. I'm waiting on the Reebok watch/heart monitor to go out - I got it for Christmas - its already acting up! My heartrate goes from 179 to 60 in a matter of 2 seconds - why - its amazing I'm alive!

As for dropping the camera (::yes::) trying dropping it on St Martin back oh - about 8 years ago when they first started going there. DH just looked at me and did :sad2: while the whole boat went :scared1:

At any rate, I look forward to hearing back from Tuxxman.

.

Is he anything like the TUCKS man from long ago? :rolleyes1

Shots Around The Ship - A Stem to Stern Extravaganza

If you are interested in "Shots Around the Ship" (and no, I don't mean tetanus shots) please send me an email and I'll compile a list. We'll do it one evening after all the shows, entertainment, kids in bed, husbands in bed, wives in bed, whatever ...

Just shoot me an email (if you know my email address). If not (since I don't want to post it here), just go to my Mouse Manager site (http://www.mousemanager.com/contact/contact.php) and fill out the contact form.

Let's get this extravaganza going!

PS - Very excited, I just checked UPS, Mrs. Bennett has arrived in Alaska from overseas and is now starting her journey to Chicago.

Nan I am too sorry the day did not go as planned! That really does suck that RPM did not have their act together. If you would like to go there one day lets do a party there. If we have Wilson, Molly Taylor, Jacinda, and i have two other kids who would like it (Annie and Sarene) that is 5 kids. I am sure we could find five others, maybe even Dissers kids who would like to go. We could just split the cost of the party and they get the jr driver trainer cert with it. Could be a fun day. I've done this to my laptop at least 4 times! And Tyler's knocked it off the table at least 3 times! Crazy thing....this laptop keeps going and going! I've had it 3 1/2 years now and I love it because it's only 4 pounds. It's about the cheapest brand out there: Averatec. The only problem I had was the little box part on the middle of the power cord (no idea what it's called) as well as the piece that plugs into the computer kept getting SUPER hot, so hot that it started to melt near where it plugs into the computer. But it was under warranty still, I sent it in, they fixed it, and I had my computer back in about a week and a half. This was about 2 years ago and no more problems since. :thumbsup2

Well I lost my post about the home network when the DIS went bye bye for awhile . . . Carol answered it for you V, I had some more details, but the most important thing was, that I can set this all up for you if you fly me down to Siesta Key and out of this snow and 20 degree weather!

what would I need an slr for?

An SLR is a single lens reflex camera, and the most important thing to know is that what you see through the viewfinder, is what you see through the lens, and is the picture you take. That, and the ability to buy and change lenses. If you are getting more serious about photography, even as a hobby, this is the right camera. Otherwise, a camera like the Canon S5 is a good compromise.

non MAC users....what laptop would you recommend? I would primarily use it for the net, and work - which is excel based and net based....downloading pics, etc.

Macbook, Macbook, Macbook.

John, our local library actually has tons of audio books that you can download onto your home computer for 3 weeks (or renew 3x and have for 9 weeks). We have done almost all of our books through them. The one glitch is that their program doesn't work with apple at the moment so we are using an older MP3 player to listen to those books. But, you can't beat the price!!! I don't know if all libraries are doing this yet...the other county near us doesn't, but it is worth looking into. HTH

My local library . . . only for Windoze users . . . UGH!

Here is what they say . . . Bunch of BS . . .

At this time, OverDrive Media files cannot be used on iPods or Mac computers.

Our media titles, provided by OverDrive, Inc., use DRM (Digital Rights Management) protection technology from Microsoft Corporation. Unfortunately the iPod (and Mac) currently support neither DRM-protected Windows Media Audio (.wma) files nor Windows Media Video (.wmv) files.

OverDrive, along with hundreds of online media providers, is hopeful that Apple and Microsoft can reach an agreement that would enable support for Microsoft-based DRM-protected materials on the iPod/Mac.

To review a list of devices that are compatible with OverDrive Media, click here.

You may also want to check device documentation to determine if a device supports DRM-protected Windows Media content.

I think Dell is a pretty good company. The one thing I learned is go with a basic model if that is all you are really wanting to do with it. We got really fancy laptops 3 years ago and they are monsters now. Computers get outdated so quickly go minimal and you can update more often for less than getting one fancy one! JMHO

See, I was blinded . . . I did not see the word "non". Thought I had another convert!

I am trying to convine DH to switch to MAC. I like my Gateway but the screen blinking on and off is annoying. I sent it off to be fixed but it started again. However the service was very quick.

I read a lot on my blackberry between dances and during breaks. It should be interesting to see if any Palo opens up. It really should. I hope so.

Opinions on Digital Cameras and Memory Cards

I saw some postings on this and am just going to chime in with my opinion here.

I personally do not recommend getting a mammoth 4GB memory card or anything like that. Here's my reasoning why, in my opinion, it is putting all of one's proverbial eggs in one basket (these are the views of the author and do not necessarily represent the views of other on the thread, the DIS, Disney, or this television station).

I have had memory cards go bad on me and become corrupted. While it may be a pain to swap out cards, my feeling are that if anything goes bad, I only lose the photos on that card and not everything.

Also, totally agree about all the eggs, BUT I need a 4 gig card(s) for my Canon Digital Rebel, otherwise I'd only get 100 or so shots on my littler cards. I use the high res, I also have many cards and trade them at will and down load to my laptop. But sometimes you need a big card...

V . . . you really should go to a store like Best Buy and look at similar laptops and see if you really like the size. For some people this is nothing, but to me a 17" laptop is like a barge. That's not what I want a laptop for. That is a desktop replacement. I loved my 12" Powerbook that Amy still uses, and love my 13" Macbook. A 17" laptop is also a lot to lug around, especially on a plane.

I totally agree! Hence the picture of my laptop with my purse. More then a purse full is way too much. If I can't fit it in there that means I have to lug a bigger bag to carry it. Not what I want in something I need to carry around with me. :crazy2: You should hit up Besy Buy and try some on for size it might help in the selection. :thumbsup2

Quick question for anyone out there -- what is the deal with the Lanyards? I got an e-mail from Kelly wanting to know if I wanted to order -- couldn't find info about them.

Holly, no need to be sorry and no need to feel bad! Everytime my situation starts to get to me (and it does every so often as that is normal) I always end up seeing someone else who is in a worse situation from my vantage point and I say, "there but for the grace of G-d, go I" and I remember that my glass is half full and that I should be happy and thankful! Just remember that we are blessed to actually see miricles! (Lord knows when my oldest was finally out of dipers, it truely was a miricle!)

Hang tough and remember you are among friends with whom you can vent and not have to feel guilty about it!

You have said it well. Every parent I believe thinks that what is going on with their child is the worst or hardest there ever has been. And we all struggle with making choices and parenting on a daily basis. We have a neighbor that has a disabled child that takes that child to the park at the end of our street everyday to swing. We have watched this man swing with his child all of Wilson's life (8 years). Paul and I try to tell ourselves when we are down and out on what is happening with our kids, whatever the dilemma of the day might be "there by the grace of God" we could be swinging at the park. I think we know that man is in a good place with his child, as he is swinging with him/her everyday. We are grateful for our child and our childs problems, no matter how big or small they are. We can swing at the park with our child. My hat is off to you. You are a great dad. Both of our glasses are always going to be full (half or more, depends on the time of day) and I will enjoy toasting mine with you on the ship. :thumbsup2

You can't take care of anyone else unless you take care of yourself. I fear MIL is doing exactly what she wants and not thinking any further. Your family comes first. I know DH will feel bad but I'm sure he's been through enough to know what's going on. It's a tough one... :grouphug: :grouphug:

Good Luck To those trying to get on the DCL website tonight for ressies!

Ok, I just checked the ressies and not a whole lot was added for the newbie’s! They are going to have to rush at the desks when they get onboard. I tried to get the Canopy adventure in PV for the boys and I, but there is only one spot open, not 3. Hang in there good people.

:thumbsup2

The mac just doesn't do what a pc does for business apps. They work for different people for different things, not for everyone for everything.:sad2:

I think I will probably bring my tux on this trip, I will also have to let the waist band out a bit in preperation, but it should still look nice. I may even put one of my boys in one of my old tux's, but they are taller than I am so I will have to see if I can let the legs down.

I just noticed you guys are in Burbank - any plans to attend the March or April DL meets?

:rotfl: I was thinking the same thing when I hung up! WOW she is a talker like me, but hey I like that. Always nice to have a friend to talk to.

I know it is a long drive for you all but it would be fun. :drive:

might do the Sac thing again, but right now I'm pissed. They should not have set the expectation that the kids could be waived.

Molly won't drive, ever. She isn't into that stuff. Have you been before, there was one comment from a track dad about them maybe not fitting, being too small to drive. Height issues????

We have other track friends that might want to go, so we could easily have enough for a party. We'll tawlkkkkk:thumbsup2

Does anyone know how the kids clubs work? It looks like the 3-7 year olds are together but they separate the kids into age groups of 3 and 4 and 5-7. So will a 3 and a 5 year old be in the same area doing different activities or in separate areas?

the 3-4 year olds are on one side and the 5 and up are on the other side. I believe they 5 year olds can go to either side. Depending on what they like, parents decide. The 10 and up can go to 5th floor or 2nd floor again, whatever they prefer.

Kaylee's advice is good. HP has good laptops too, and reasonable.

John-DH and I appreciate the plug for HP!!! :thumbsup2 Obviously Mark has had HP laptops for all the years he's worked at HP. He's only had a few (you'd think they'd replace them regularly, not the case). His is on 24/7 and been man-handled many times over, especially on airplanes and has never had problems. Dell used to be a very strong HP competitor but has lost some footing in the past year. People complain most about their customer service, or lack thereof. As with anything...there are lemons to be had. We know that all too well....Mark's new company car has been at the dealer on and off for 30 days since he got it in December. We're on our 3rd rental car. And then he speaks to other HP folks that haven't had one problem with theirs...go figure!

I'm pretty sure they can both be in the other room. Smaller, more preschool toys etc. I would call and ask to be safe. I know my dd was 8 last summer and they let her go to deck 2 where it was supposed to be 10 and up, so I don't think they are tight on the rules.

When we went my youngest was 4 and my oldest was 7. My youngest was pretty shy and she was able to hang around with her sister as much as she wanted. Pretty soon, the younger was out playing and having fun so her sister was able to go off and do her things. My understanding is that they are pretty flexible in most circumstances.

Don't worry...they really do everything so everyone that wants to experience Palo's can. :goodvibes

They move the kids around a lot in the 3-4 and 5-7 groups. Sometimes they are all in the club and have free choice or more structured activities, I don't think I've ever seen them broken in age groups when they are all in the club. Many times the 5-7 kids will go to other parts of the ship, like into the Lab, up on sports deck, etc. I don't think the 3-4s move around much. I think they will let a 5yo choose to move down to the 3-4s but not the 3-4 move up. Things might be looser if there are a lot fewer kids than normal.

Castaway Cay - float rentals and because my mother talked me into it... Parasailing... (oh crap!!!)
Acapulco City Tour w/divers - 12:45 - 5:45
Puerto Vallarta - City Tour - 8:45 - 12:45 (and my nap at 1...:rotfl2: )
Cabo San Lucas - Harbor Cruise & Scenic Tour - 11:30- 3:45

I decided that I will also call the GF spa and book something on the morning of the 8th so I can get in a pedicure for mom and a massage, etc. for me...

Steve:

:thumbsup2

Thank you, Nanette. I look forward to hoisting my mug with all the DISer’s onboard; as long as Captain Tom does not allow me onto the bridge afterwards to take the helm!

Forget about Vista. See if you can get something with XP.

I agree...it's more headache than anything. We have 4 computers (2 are in Mark's office) and of the 4, one has vista...that's the only one that has problems. For example, the boys can't access the Webkinz website from it. I don't have much a problem with anything else, but that's the computer that's in our family room, so it's a hassle because they really want to get on their webkinz. (We usually all sit on the computer upstairs for them to access it...I know more about Webkinz than I care to admit!!!)

I am hoping to get away for the March brunch if I can arrange for a care worker to watch the boys. The April Dinner is the first night of passover, so my parents would shoot me if we were not at Seder that night with them. Both boys will hopefully not figure out that we are cruising again untill we get to MCO and get on the bus.

As a funny, just remember that if Jesus had held his last supper at any other time then Passover, instead of a tasteless flat waffer for communion, you would have a nice piece of egg bread!:rotfl2:

Webkinz don't die...from their site:

In answer to your very important question, no, your Webkinz pet can't die. But if your pet's health dips below 9, it will definitely get sick. When that happens, your pet will have a green face and a thermometer in its mouth and you will have to take your pet to the clinic to visit Dr. Quack to make it feel better. The clinic is in the "Things to Do" menu. Your pet will never run away, either, though it will get very sad if you do not visit it.

Ok good folks, time for me to head to bed too! I checked one last time and the boys and I are still in the lifeboat! You would think by now they would know which rooms are open!! Humm, could it be that I am being upgraded to a suite as the last opening onboard??:rotfl: Will just have to wait and see! Hugs to all:wave2:

Welcome!! At the end of this thread there's a detailed list of info! And since this is about to run out I'm sure it will be on the next thread too!!!

And yes, I'm still watching the fish! No room, No reservations!!!

Great! I'll email you...I think I might have missed something. Who is Mrs. Bennett? Sorry if I should know. I'm a bit slow!
Lisa

I also NEED to know who Mrs. Bennett is. I'm slower than Lisa.:rotfl:

How pretty is Helen Mirrens Dress, she's always so beautiful.

I would like to think I would look like her - only a few years to go and it isn't looking good!

12 minutes in... all excursions booked....

NO PALO!!!

Well done on the excursions. Shame about Palo - hopefully when you board the ship.

Well, not too bad, only 10 minutes to book excursions. We were not able to book anything at Palo. But everything else is done.

Joseph

Not bad at all for excursions. Took 5 hours and a quarter for me to get 1 excursion the other week!:sad2:

I am hoping to get away for the March brunch if I can arrange for a care worker to watch the boys. The April Dinner is the first night of passover, so my parents would shoot me if we were not at Seder that night with them. Both boys will hopefully not figure out that we are cruising again untill we get to MCO and get on the bus.

As a funny, just remember that if Jesus had held his last supper at any other time then Passover, instead of a tasteless flat waffer for communion, you would have a nice piece of egg bread!:rotfl2:

Well, I never thought of that.

Just popped on to the DCL site(still GTY) and there are more spa openings than ther were. I could have picked a few more treatments. Such a shame they didn't open up more Palo reservations though.:sad2:

She can't be too under the weather as she bid on an item I had on my eBay watch list yesterday! :lmao: Oh and no I am not going to bid on it against her. So she can't be feeling bad if she is on eBay maybe just busy with life. I know it sneaks up on me from time to time.
