hey there fellow cruisers!! It is only 3 weeks away! :cool1:

We just booked a week or two ago, and I was shocked to find there was not a cruise meets thread yet. :confused3 So here ya go!! :woohoo:

Who is joining me on the Wonder???? Join in here!

I am traveling with DH, DS (4) and DD (2). We've been on several Disney cruises, so we're pretty laid back about everything, just going to relax and have some fun. Oh, and to enjoy enjoy some warm weather!!

Hope to see some DISers joining this thread!! ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

Hello there - I think our paths crossed on another board. DS (8) & I are on this cruise - our second. The rest of the family are away on school trips or work so we are off for some high quality play-time! I can't believe there aren't more postings this close to departure!!!

This is our 4th trip to the Disney & second Disney cruise. We fly out on the 5th so all of the packing gets done next weekend - then the anticipation will really set in.

Hey, guys! This will be our very first cruise and we're so excited!:cool1: My fiance and I are going as part of our annual Spring Break adventure. We just booked on Saturday, having found the great rate! Only 20 days from now and we'll be setting sail on a dream, as they say on the planning DVD!

hi there! Great to see you guys here.

Now that it is less than 3 weeks, time will really fly. I am planning to get the suitcases out this weekend, to start the packing fun. :cool1: It is not like I need any of those warm weather clothes around here. :rotfl:

tuckerx2...I think I did see you on another board. Hi again! Which Disney cruise did you go on last time? How fun to go with just your DS. I hope to do special trips like that with each of my kids someday. Your son will have a blast! But what will you do if he wants to hang out in the Lab? :confused3 :beach: :rolleyes1  I'm sure you'll find something!!

RoyalCinderella, your first cruise?! You're going to have a great time! By day 2 you'll be begging DF to rebook on board. ;) :sail:

:tinker: Sending some pixie dust your way, hope your trips are magical!! pixiedust:

My DH and I just got off the Wonder on 2/17 without the kids and boy were they mad.

My kids think we are mean for going without them in the first place.

However I had a great time, and my DH kinda remembers some of the trip. LOL

Hi everyone! It's great to see our numbers growing. Iowa6 - how cool to be able to set sail again so soon. Our 1st Disney cruise was a 4-day Wonder in Mar 07. This time we are spending a few days at the Pop C prior to departure - playtime! I agree that this is the weekend to start packing.

Iowa6, that is hilarious that you're kids were mad so now you're taking them!:rotfl: I actually have the reverse problem. . .us 'kids' are going on the cruise for the first time to "try it out for the family." If we don't get sick, then we'll take the family at some point in the future, but if we do get queasy, then we know my mom in particular will have a hard time of it, seasickness-wise. So, our parents are mad at us that we're going without them! Just kidding of course, but man parents can ladle on the guilt, can't they?!):rotfl:

I dont know why but Disney has a policy that First Time Cruisers have to buy a drink for anyone they see wearing an IOWA STATE shirt.

I know its a crazy policy, but remember I dont make them I just drink them.

As mentioned above 1st timer..when people use dh, dd, ds I think I know what they are referring to but clarification fot this Texas biy would help. Thanks :confused3

Iowa6

The DD = Disney Daughter (people put the age after to help kids meet kids)
DS = Disney Son
DH = Disney Husband
DW = Disney very good looking Wife

In some languages DH stands for DISNEY WHAT AM I DOING HERE WITH HIM.

And we must not forget the great DBFTDHDNKA. That one is: Disney BoyFriend That Disney Husband Does Not Know About.

I am only joking about the last TWO, however I am telling you the truth on DW. So please dont tell me any different.

Remember to always have fun.

Hmmm....I thought the drink was for those in an OHIO state shirt. :confused3 ;) :rotfl2:

tuckerx2...we were on the Wonder in March 07 as well, maybe we were on the same cruise. :)

Good to see more cruisers checking in...2 weeks from now we'll be enjoying dinner on the Wonder!! :cool1:

Oh, I need me one of those DBFTDHDNKA. :lmao: :lmao:

I would love to hear thoughts on the Nassau excursions. We've done the snorkelling/catamaran & will gladly do it again (it was awesome!) but does anyone have any other recommendations?

I had the best of intentions to have my packing completed over the wknd but all that got done was bits of shopping for my DD who is off on 2 school trips over the next 2 weeks. Will have to buckle down this week! As for packing tips, comfortable walking shoes/hats are a must! We also take a daypack for the gear we need as soon as we board so we don't have to wait for our room. I've taken over-the-door shoe bags on trips in the past that help with organization if that helps anyone. I just roll it up & then hang it up when we arrive at the next stop. Great for toothbrushes, shower gear etc. Also - don't forget the Ohio state shirt - I hear it cut costs!

Jen - we boarded last year on Mar 18th for the 4 night. I can see how this lifestyle can become addictive!

Iowa6
02-26-2008, 02:38 PM
People Please.......

The IOWA STATE SHIRTS get the free drinks. We need them. We have nothing else to cheer for.

The Ohio State people get national championships and heisman winners all the time they dont need to drink.

And as for the Patriot fan: are you kidding me. If you wear that and my husband sees you, he will make you buy him a drink. He says the one good think about having a Patriot on board is at least there will be good video of everyone else's practice, oops I mean VACATION. LOL

sorry that might not be funny to you but he thinks it is hilarious.:rotfl2: :woohoo:

KensJen
02-26-2008, 02:49 PM
You guys are cracking me up!! :rotfl2: I may have to buy you a drink just because of that. LOL

Norma, we were on the Wonder the first week of March last year. It is such a wonderful time, both for weather and the price. I think I want to book again for next year...have to talk DH into that one. ;)

As for Nassau...we aren't getting off the ship. Our kids are still pretty young, and we'll just hang out at the pool a bit and do some things onboard. We did the same last time and it was nice. I was going to suggest a snorkel tour, that is my fave thing there. Something to get you away from the straw market and that whole area. There is so much more to see than shops, etc. :) We did take a water taxi over to Atlantis, this was back before we had kids, and it was fun. DH likes to gamble a bit, and Atlantis is a beautiful property. The aquarium is really nice, too. It is a fun day if you don't want to do water activities. (we did this on our own, not through the disney excursion)

bobbbrick...a Patriots shirt will get you NOTHING!! :rotfl2: Nah, just kidding. Where are you from in MA? We live in MA, too. It is a good time to get away, I'm ready for the sun!!:cool2:

(BTW, OSU fans don't win natl championships all the time, we just get to play in the big game and then CHOKE. :sad2: That is why we NEED to drink.)

I really can't believe we only have a week and a half until we leave. You'd think I'd be more excited, but I am actually thinking of all I need to do before we go...yikes. Must.start.packing.

Hey Iowa6,

My wife and I live in Ames, and we're also sailing on 3/9. We're taking our three daughters, and we're meeting good friends and their two girls. The two women both graduated from Ames High. It'll be like a little Ames reunion (though you might see me in a Hawkeye t-shirt, or Drake this year - I'm for all the Iowa schools). Free drinks, though...

C'ya!

Iowa6

We lived in Ames for a while, back when we only had two kids. My husband and I are both from Altoona.

We are bringing our four children, three of which are daughters ages 6, 9, and 12. What age are your girls?

My DH has actually went to all three of those schools, ISU, Drake, and Iowa. He always says that ISU was the best 7 years of his life.

Hims not to bright upstairs.....

Anyway remember to wear an ISU shirt and lets see how many drinks we can get the rest of the disboard members to buy us. LOL:rotfl2:

I have three daughters - my oldest is 8, and I have identical twins who are 5 1/2. (Someone else posted that the 1/2 really makes a big deal at 5 - I think that is true.) Our friends have two daughters - ages are 6ish and 4ish. I'm sure our girls will run into each other - I'll tell my girls that yours are from Adventureland.

I don't think I can promise an ISU shirt - I don't think I have any warm weather ISU clothing, and I am really more of an Iowa fan. Although I've lived in Ames for 5 years now, I lived a total of 11 years, off and on, in Iowa City. I'll try to bring something to wear that's Iowa related.

This REALTOR from Texas needs some fun time. I have 2 children DD 6 & DS 9 do they really have a good time in the club & lab. DW and I want some us time...Just back from Disneyland at Christmas with party of 13, my 2 sister and their families I need to relax now and have fun. I am going out and buying several new shirts I don't want to miss out on the free drinks..

Anybody going the day before staying at the airport..anything to report on that...

Thanks in advance..:cool1:

Thanks

Hey my DW reminded me to ask has anyone booked their next cruise while on board and is there a true savings or benefit..

Thanks

I do think it is a good deal to book onboard. There really aren't too many savings or discounts on DCL so it is nice to take advantage of this. You will get 10% off and then an on board credit, which is dependent on the length of the cruise. For another 4 day cruise, you would get a $100 OBC.

I think we are going to rebook onboard. At least it will be easier to get off the ship knowing we'll be back!

And Jiminys Friend...do you have any specific questions about packing?? My first general piece of advice is this...after you have everything ready to pack, take out half. Really, the biggest problem is overpacking!! During the day you'll likely be ultra casual, shorts, tees, bathing suits, flip flops. For dinner it is mostly resort casual, no jeans, tee shirts, etc. If you and the DW go to Palo it is a bit dressier, a jacket is recommended for men. Let us know if you have any questions though, happy to help! :goodvibes

We are also in range of March 11, and so far, the weather looks great for the nighttime launch of Endeavor. The NASA website has officially listed the mission as a GO, and they've started the official countdown.

I think I might be more excited about the shuttle launch than the cruise! I asked on the boards, and other DISers have reported that, for night launches, the captain takes the boat as close as he can get back to Port Canaveral. They put the NASA channel on the bigscreen over the pool for the countdown, and it is supposed to be an amazing sight. I'm crossing my fingers that it doesn't get delayed!

hi mom2d&b! How exciting to book a cruise so close to the sail date! DH and I used to do that when we lived in Florida!

And I think it is fun to surprise the kids, you need to get their reaction on video. ;) My DS has been counting down the days, and it has been exciting now that it is down under a week. He loves to hold up 6 fingers and say..."Almost time for the cruise!"

My DS is 4, almost 5, so he should be in the club with your DS. And his middle name is Blake. :goodvibes

Hi all - we take off in 36 hours! I can hardly believe it. I (almost) miss having a little one around to count down the 'sleeps'. They are forecasting snow so fingers crossed we get out & don't get storm stayed en route...

This group has grown over the last couple of weeks - it is sounding like there will be quite a party. Couldn't find an Iowa State shirt although DS found an Ohio State tee in the sports store on the wknd. I resisted the urge to buy it - couldn't remember if it got me anything but if it wasn't for this group, I'd never have given it a thought and instead we shared a chuckle :rotfl:

Thanks for the good info - esp the heads up about the shuttle. It's probably a once in a lifetime event for us so fingers crossed it is a go. To heck with the beauty sleep!

Lisa - good luck with your secret - your kids will be so thrilled!

Now I have to finish packing!!!!

Well, DD8 has over heard enough conversations to guess we are going on a Disney cruise for spring break. We have told her she is incorrect. And reminded her that she will be spending spring break with DH MOM. Technically she is wrong since we are not cruising for her spring break in April.
The kids & I are almost all packed. Since has seen all the stuff being packed, so much mre than we usually pack for a weekend at Grandma's she is a bit suspicious but she is not talking about it.
Last night was hard, I wanted to tell them so bad. Both kids were upset with us because we would not go to a dinner spirit night for the school. The kids kept telling us how we never do what they want and we are so mean. It took everything I had to keep the secret.

OH well off to work to fund my disney hobby.
