Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

5 miles today for me in 59:18!

Cam...congrats on your 4 mile PR! :cool1:

Kristen...welcome!

Angie...I was thinking about that Iron Girl, but decided to skip it because I didn't want to get up that early. I'm doing the Springfest 12K the weekend before down at Palmer Ranch.

Allyson...wtg on the C25K!

Carol...if you're doing 5 miles under one hour, you're already halfway there for the 15K! You'll do great!

Craig...looks like you have lots of votes for your coaching thread. Maybe you could add in something about speedwork too :)

Krista...glad to hear you're both okay. One of my OB docs said he'd put money on Lenna being a boy, based on her heart rate

I still haven't taken an ice bath. Took me 2 years just to work up to the cold water bath :rolleyes1 . I usually don't attempt it until my LR are in double digits. I use the sweatshirt and hot tea approach and sit with just my legs covered until my teeth are chattering uncontrollably, then jump into the hot shower. I have noticed a difference when I do it versus skipping it.

The RaceReady shirt orders are scheduled to go out on Monday. I have a couple people that didn't send me an email address for an invoice. If you're still interested, please let me know!

Good training everyone!

Kristen - One more welcome to add to the stack.

Debra - Great about running Cleveland! We'll have to do an official role call, but I think that makes you and the DOOD, SteveOH, SWDave and his SIL, myself and hopefully DW Kathy. Any other takers?

You just have to promise not to wear any Steelers' gear. SteveOH probably will have that covered so I'll have to assure a safe distance away from him (Browns fans have been known to throw bottles, batteries, dog bones, small children, etc. at the opposition:rolleyes1 ).

As for the ice bath, I'm with the nude DOOD. Seems like it would be worse with a bunch of wet and cold clingy clothes. I am slightly peeved that I didn't know this was a couples activity:confused3 . Although, with the ice water and all, hmmm... probably a waste of good nudeness.

Mel - A cold water bath? In FL? That's barely a luke warm!

I'm on a mission this week. I will closely inspect every one of Carrie's posts in search of the ever elusive "THE" (vs. teh). I couldn't find any last week but I have a good feeling:thumbsup2 .

See ya!

I have a feeling Carrie's keypad has a few letters in the wrong location. Did you get the keyboard from freecycle? LOL.

Off topic: We went to Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore to watch the LPGA's SBS Open. I usually caddy every year, but took too much time off from work to run the Goofy last month. I didn't save enough leave to caddy the two tournaments in Hawaii.

Here are my Princesses who seem to have stole Annika Sorenstam's $165,000.00 winner's check. You would think they would have paid for some of daddy's race registrations. Sadly, it all went to candy!

Good morning WISH warriors.

Looks like more storms coming across the country. I know our northern team mates need some more snow shoveling for their cross training.

I saw a new MP3 player in a magazine that looks interesting. It's an RCA JetStream and it uses a new wireless technology. Has anyone tried it? It also has a stop watch/timer function and a pedometer.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Welcome Kristen, you'll love it here.:goodvibes

Dave - Hope you have a speedy recovery:flower3:

I only walked for 45 mins. yesterday, but hope to walk more today. I haven't been able to snowshoe because it keeps snowing and it's too cold. It's suppose to be nice on Tuesday, so hopefully I can get out.

Hey all!

Hope everyone's doing well. Just popping in with a quick question.

My little brother is interested in running a 5K with us. He's 12 years old. How should we train with him? Is he old enough for a regular C25K plan? I'm so excited that he's interested in giving it a try!

Hoping everyone is having a great Sunday.

Today starts the NASCAR racing season. Today’s winner at Daytona is,

4.25 miles on the TM this morning. The feet are doing pretty well. The left foot is still a little tender where the blister was, but is coming along.

Mel – WTG with the 5 miler!

Cam – Congrats on the PR!

Mel - A cold water bath? In FL? That's barely a luke warm!

Hey, we have cold water down here. :confused3 :rotfl:

Jeff – Aloha! I was stationed at Hickam 1980 - 84. I still miss the islands.

WWDave – Take care of yourself.

Monte – WTG with the 45 minute walk.

TXAng – I say let him go for it.

Good Morning...well...it's lunch time here... Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!!!

I PR'd today!!! As we started out, I told DH I just want to increase my pace to be about a 12-13 minute mile for the Minnie so I'n not so stressed about the sweepers and I've got til the end of April to get that done. I started off a little fast, which I'm sure helped my time, but didn't help my breathing! :goodvibes So...I did 3 miles in 35:46. Yay! :woohoo: (I completed the Jan 5K in 46 minutes...) This is just under a 12 minte mile...right? Now...I just have to try to do this for 6 more miles!

Just need to come and share my success with those that I knew had been there and could appreciate the excitement!!! Thanks guys!!! :grouphug:

Hope to catch up on everyone else tomorrow!!!

Hi all!

I ran 3 miles OUTSIDE yesterday! :cool1: The day started out cold and windy but the wind died down and it was great for running. I really do not like running on the TM but this time of year it is so hard to get in a run outside. Today I was at the gym and did 4.25 miles of cardio and also did some strength work. Felt good.

Stacie: :thumbsup2 on the PR!! Awesome!

Monte: how much snow did you get? I read something in the Rockie Mountain News online that said a number of resorts were closing early. From your snow report I wonder why they are closing early. Well, hope you survive the latest round of snow!

Mike: reading Carrie's typing is like solving an anagram then unscrambling those words!

Carrie: LOVE YA!!!! You know I'm only kidding!!!!

Calcio: :love2:

I'm lucky enough to have tomorrow off for Presiden'ts Day (gotta love those presidents, right? Give us a holiday for them!!!!) I'm gonna wallow in bed until the cats pry me out of bed to feed them. I've decided that when I die I want to be reincarnated as my cat! They have such a soft life. But, I digress. I was hoping to run outside again tomorrow but they are calling for rain. I'll see what transpires.

Happy training everyone!

I made a video of my Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge photos, with run related music, and captions.

WARNING: it's 38 minutes long.

So those of you homebound due to the nasty weather, grab a snack, sit back, and enjoy the show.

TXAng - I used the C25K plan with my 9 yo daughter for the 5K this past Jan. I think he would do fine! That's great that he wants to do that with you. My dd said NO MORE after the Family Safari 5K. Oh, well, at least she tried, and she DID have a good time.

Stacie - Congrats!! :cheer2: :cheer2: I am so happy for you! :thumbsup2 Keep it up girl and you'll breeze right through the Minnie!

Kristen - From one Alabamian to another, I say :welcome: and . I will probably see you at that race. I am hoping to do the 10K, but we'll see. If I chicken out, I'll do the 5K for sure. I have a friend at church who is going to make up a training plan for me.

Jeff, I'll have to check out your video later. DH wants on the computer. Can't wait to watch it! :surfweb:

Storms rolling in, luckily DH and I got out this morning. We ran 3 miles, pace was 10:13. Felt good. :thumbsup2

Mel: Thanks again for the RR shirt orders. You've got a phenomenal turn-around time! And congrats on the 5-miler. I think you should take an ice bath to celebrate! ;)

Mike: We're really looking foward to Cleveland, never been there. The only downside is the race location means DOOD's entourage (i.e. my ILs) will probably make the drive to cheer him on. They're really cool about spectating but aren't quite sure what to make of the need for a shower, nap, and some recovery time; they'll be ready to paint Cleveland yellow and black as soon as he crosses the line! Just kidding--between you and me, DOOD and I aren't quite sure what to make of the Steeler nation. :confused3 We're just too new to Pgh, I guess. (Detroit Lions, though, that's another story.)

AlohaJeff: Your princesses are too cute! I plan to make time to watch your video soon--I'm badly in need of a little Goofy inspiration!

WWDave: Thanks for the info on the wireless MP3; I'd be interested in hearing reviews, too. How's your recovery going?

Monte: I hope the weather cooperates for some outdoor walking or snowshoeing, whichever you'd prefer. Me, I'm just in awe that you like to snowshoe...

TXAng: That's so cool that your brother wants to run a 5K with you. I wish I had advice, but all I've got is a banana dance!

Vic: WTG with the 4.25 miler! I'm glad to hear the food is feeling pretty good. And I don't know my NASCAR at all--only the movie Cars--but I assume the start of the season was exciting?

Stacie: Great news on your PR! You're going to do great at the Minnie!

Martha: Yea for you! It sounds like an outdoor run was just what your spirit needed. More good days are on the way! If your cats let you sleep in I'll be impressed with how well you've "trained" them. Mine have perfected the Snoopy-as-vulture perch on my chest--at at 12+ pounds each, that action does wake me up.

Shan: I hope the storms pass quickly. But congrats on your 3 miler and pace!

As for me: I tried a new yoga class today. I think it's a keeper, a good combination of challenging and relaxing, a knowledgeable instructor, and designed for a variety of experience levels. After the class I was aware that I have a right knee, if that makes any sense, but my knee doesn't hurt per se. I was even able to do circuit training afterwards.

Hi All - just to say I am still alive though manic with work. Runing in short bursts - I'm working on the theory that if you're supposed to take a rest of a day for every mile you run in a race, so technically I wasn't supposed to even don my trainers until Feb 25th or something, so I don't need to go over 30 minutes until after that!!!! Sorry I can't catch up with everyone, haven't read a thread in weeks, but hope everyone is good- Helen

Hi friends

Just reporting in from overseas! I've been walking and trying to find a decent running route but it's going to be tough. Today I just decided to run. I took my Garmin and only put in about 2 miles but it felt so good to be running again. Singapore is so congested and I'm running on sidewalks along some busy roads---I've decided to nickname the course SEF for "sucking exhaust fumes." That can't be good for you, can it? :confused3 So I ultimately have to make the decision to drive in to town for the treadmill (Air Conditioned, no exhaust fumes, but a commute) or run outside here closer to home on the SEF trail. I'm sure it will work out.

We seem to be adjusting well to Singapore. It really is a beautiful place and I'll never complain about the weather (unless it's too hot to run ;) ) We live in an area where there are a number of expats so we've met quite a few folks and everyone is really friendly.

Leana--if you read this, could you pm me the restaurants you were suggesting? I didn't get to write them down. Sorry!

On my run today I was thinking about how I'd be training for the Minnie already if I were back home.:upsidedow I've gotta keep up with you people so I can jump back into a Disney race in a few years!

Happy training!

Hey, all, just stopping by. I've been relaxing since I pulled my neck/shoulder muscles earlier this week. i really should get a massage, but I'm putting aside the massage money for an entry fee into a local 10 mile race (if they are walker friendly!). My longest walk ever yesterday--I'm up to 6.5 miles. I felt good at the end, like I could have continued walking if I needed to. I had some calf soreness after the cooldown yesterday, but that's gone today. I'm more concerned that my hips feel a little sore and stiff--they sometimes pop out of the socket, and I'm hoping that long walks don't make that happen. If anything, I was hoping building the muscles would help whatever holds the hip in place would be stronger and it would happen less. Tomorrow is a moderate walk day (MfM), so we'll see what happens.

Mel- Thank you so much for getting us WISH shirts! I'm so excited to have team WISHwear! Woohoo!

Mike, thanks for the visual on the cold water bath!

Jeff, your princesses are adorable. Did Annika miss the check, or did they cut her in on the candy? And I'll be watching your video during some serious sofa time tomorrow!

Dave, a wifi mp3? :confused3 Sounds like it could be cool. I hadn't thought of one of those.... I am still trying to figure out if i need a flash-memory mp3 player (like a shuffle or a nano) because the classic ipod is so heavy and potentially skippish.... Hope that achilles is feeling better! Stretching is your friend. :)

Monte, snowshoeing? Holy cow! That would be cold! We haven't had any snow to speak of here at the coast this year... I'm not complaining, either! Hope you have better outdoor activity weather of some description soon!

Vic, you've been healing a blister area for a month? :scared1: I worry that I have no idea what I'm in for with this exercise thing.... I never get blisters hanging out on the sofa (although I hear it is possible to get sores if you don't get up to get your snacks occasionally). Keep up the good work--over four miles! :)

Stacie, way to go on the PR!

Martha, you gotta love Presidents' Day! I, too, plan on sleeping in until the dog insists she needs to go out (if you don't make it back as your cat, aim for being my dog--it is also a cushy job). I've been waiting for this four-day weekend since Christmas! Then I just have to wait for spring break... I am worried the rain tomorrow is going to keep me inside--it's supposed to be 60 degrees but rainy. Back to the treadmill, I suppose....

Shan, I'm learning to dislike the treadmill and prefer any time I get to walk outside! Glad you managed to get outside today!

Debra, you are inspiring me to experiment and try to find a yoga class that works for me. I'm competitive with myself and need to see progress, though, so I tend to make the instructors crazy! Glad to hear you found a class that you liked.

Helen, hi! I was reading the post-race section of MfM today and Bingham says whatever you do after the race is right. :) Take your time and stop by soon!

Vicki, how exciting to be in Singapore! Sounds like you are finding your way--although SEF doesn't sound healthy. How fantastic that you found some expats to connect with. And I'm sure when you get back, you'll be in great shape for any Disney race that comes up--at least you'll be ahead of many of us on training in the heat!

Stacie - Great job on the PR!

Martha - Congratulations on running outside. And good luck sleeping in tomorrow. I'm trying for the same thing - am explaining to the dog that she really does NOT need to go out as early as she thinks.

Vicki - Glad you're enjoying Singapore. The SEF trail doesn't sound like much fun!

Vic - Sorry... :sad1: Even though we're Indy fans, we were still pulling for Dale Jr.

DH ran with me yesterday for the first time on a LR. We both finished 10 miles, but ended up walking the last two. My right ankle started hurting like the other one did right before I had the stress fracture, so I thought it might be wise to stop running and take it easy. I'm planning to stay off it for a few days and see how it feels. Apparently I'm not meant to increase mid-week mileage; every time I do I end up injured. :confused3

Hey All - short drive-by; it's been a busy week for the family!

Thoughts to all y'all weathering the storms rolling thru - sounds like Treadmill Time:guilty:

DW Chimera has been cranking out the shirt orders; thanks to everyone for being patient and so quick with the payments! She's been so excited about getting these done; I can't wait to see them when we get 'em in! Yeah, that's right - I get to see them first :woohoo:

Had a late 8-mile run this morning; overslept and should have gone out MUCH earlier than 8:30am, because it was TOASTY and humid. So my time was yuck (an 11:45 pace). But I tried out my new Sansa Clip 2GB MP3 player DW gave me, that made it a bit better!

Have a great week, all!

just popping in real fast....

Did my long run today...I think fastest I've done the 10 mile loop. yay! But I'm sore now. Was inspired to run well after cheering at the local marathon this morning (one of my friends qualified for Boston, several others PR'd). Did a mile for Lily, too.

Stacie...wtg on the PR!

MouseDogMom...I totally hear ya on the stress fracture thing. I had one in my foot a few years ago that cost me an entire summer of triathlon. Was in a boot for over 2 months because initially, I wouldn't stay off of it. So I get it when you feel those twinges again and feel like you have to back off. Hope it gets better with rest!

Everyone else...have a great week! :cool1:

Jeff, Betsy and Stacie - congrats on your runs! Great job!

TXAng - that's cool that your bro wants to run with you. I'm trying to get my 14 y/o nephew to run with me.

Helen - :wave2: Keep in touch.

Lily - Glad to hear your recuperating well.

Monte - I know you're a little ways away from Denver, but what's the weather like there in early April. I'm heading your way (kinda). I'll be in Denver from April 3-7. Bringing some kids out for a sports tournament.

I've been kinda MIA this last week. No training to report. I strained my back earlier this week in work. It's a little better, but I'm still moving gingerly, especially if I sit for any extended period of time and then try to get up and move. Not a fun feeling. So I'll be giving it a few more days to heal up before trying to do anything again.

I haven't been able to access my computer for 24 hours and I'm trying to quickly go through the different threads to catch up.

Stacie: :cheer2: :cheer2: Awesome!

Dave: the MP3 sounds cool.

Vicki: Singapore...Wow! I'm sure there are trials in living there, but I hope you enjoy the experience.

MsMIghtyDuck..Way to go, 6.5 miles and still feeling able to go on is great.

For me, I did 7 miles on the tm Sat. in 1 hr 45 minutes and a nice leisurely 8 miles on the stationary bike today. I read a little more of MfM. I'm really enjoying it but already can see my biggest problem will be rest days. It makes sense, I have just always exercised as many days as I could.

Have a great week!

Everyone seems to have recovered from the flu around here. We were about one day away from visiting the hospital so we were thankful it passed quickly. So much for the flu shots for the kids, they seemed to have gotten it worse than Lynnda or me and we didn't have the shots. :confused3

Billy wants to do a Dino Dash (3k) race next month so I took him out yesterday to see how he would do. He actually went 1.63 miles with a 17 minute pace and almost no complaining that he was too tired. :thumbsup2 Now Lynnda is worried that he may beat her during the race so the challenge is on to keep up with him.

I was able to get a little training in this weekend. Although my ankle felt off at the start of the run so I cut it short in order not to injure it before next weekend. I went biking a little bit that night to make up for it.

Cam - Great job on the PR. You are doing great.

Martha - Glad you were able to get outside for your run. Hope you enjoy your day off.

ms.mightyduck - Great job on your walk. Hope you are able to get over the stiff muscles quickly.

Vic - I think you have the wrong picture there. ;) Someone needs to tell Jr. when the rest of the field goes to the pit, he needs to follow.

Vicki - Glad to hear that things are going well. Hope you are able to find a nice place to run that doesn't involve lots of cars.

Terri - Hope your back feels better soon.

Krista - Glad everything was fine after the little bump. That seems lower than ours for the heartbeat but I could be misremembering things as well.

Craig - Since it has been a while since you had young ones let me remind you. The fast heartbeat when they are young is because they are constantly moving at high rates of speed and no breaks unless they are sleeping. As they enter the teenage years, they tend to slow down and eventually want to stay in bed all the time. Sleeping doesn't need as many beats so overall their heartrate slows down. Then their kids cause the heart to stop several times with all the dumb things they think they can do without any fear.

Jeff - Perhaps you should pay a premium since you are getting the shirts first. :lmao:

Jackie - Hope your ankle is fine. Don't push too hard and get into more problems.

Helen - Hope things calm down for you soon.

Debra - Glad you are able to find a class that you like. Hope it helps out with your running.

Hope everyone has a good week. Perhaps I will do better at keeping up this time. :rolleyes1

For any other asthmatics:
I found a carrier thing-a-ma-bob for my inhaler at CVS. It just has straps that wrap around it and it has a clip. I am excited since I always have a problem making sure a waist pack has enough room for the bulky inhaler. Now I can just clip it to the belt strap. Much easier!

Good morning, team!! Happy Monday! How did every one get lucky enough to have President's Day off? We don't get off for anything at my work! Hines and I walked 4 miles on Saturday, I could have gone another mile or 2, but Hines was getting tired! I took my Garmin with me just so I would know my time and distance, but I didn't pay attention to my pace at all, it was a nice walk--sunny and warm, unfortunately we're back in the 30's this week and are expecting snow showers. I am so ready for spring.

Craig--Not that I know a lot about it, my boss's wife is a labor and delivery nurse, she said the baby's heart rate goes off the mother's, so that's why it's so fast. And when the mother's heart rate is elevated because of nerves or when exercising, then the baby's hr will be elevated too. I would assume the baby's hr becomes normal at birth, but I don't know for sure.

TX Ang--That's cool that your brother is getting interested in running. I think 12 years old is not too young to be doing 5k's. Maybe try getting on the Girls on the Run website, not that he is a girl, but it's a running program for like 8-12 year old girls and they end the "season" with a 5K. They might have some training programs for kids on there. How is your sweet baby boy doing?

Bill--Glad to hear that everyone is getting better at your house. The flu is going around up here like mad. I'm trying to distance myself from everybody, I don't want to deal with that right now! Take care of your ankle!

Jackie--Take care of your ankle too!

Mike--Quit being so mean to my Carrie! ;) ;)

Mel--Thanks again for all of your work on the shirts, I am excited to get mine! After almost 3 years, I'm now an official member of the Wish racing team. ;)

Debra--You definitely need to rock the black and gold in Cleveland!

Kristen--:welcome:!! I have not had the pleasure of meeting your husband, but judging by what Cam and Howard have to say about him, he must be quite the guy!

Angie--Good luck deciding on the next race! And good luck with your marina proposal! :wizard:

I better get off here and get to work, not much motivation today, I'd much rather be curled up in bed with a good book. Oh well, my day is coming!

Good morning, teammates! Neck is still stiff. I really want to schedule a massage today to see if that helps, but I think that may be spending $$, and DH doesn't know that the 10 miler I want to register for costs the same as the massage....

I didn't get up early enough to do my mallwalk this morning (I'm off for the holiday) and it has stopped raining but is still VERY windy (although close to 60!). But I worry that the wind will trigger an asthma attack. That sounds like I'm stuck on the TM again today.

Hope everyone has a great holiday!

Jackie, good that you have pinpointed what is causing the problem. I probably wouldn't have been smart enough to actually stop. Hope that ankle is feeling better soon!

Jeff, if that's a yuck time, I would respectfully ask you not to just see my shirt first, but put whatever pixie dust you're using on my shirt, as well. :) A BIG thanks to you and your family (especially Mel) for getting those shirt orders out for those of us eager to own our first WISH wear! Right about now, I'd be happy to go for a run when it's a little too hot out....

Terri, hope the back is feeling better soon! Take it easy!

SamSam, thanks for the encouragement. Woohoo on the 7 miles! Bingham is pretty clear on the need to take it easy on rest days--I'm hoping that the payoff is that there are fewer injuries as a result.

Bill, thanks for the good vibes. :goodvibes I'm hoping the neck is better soon, too. Sorry to hear about your flu epidemic. I saw on the news yesterday that because the flu vaccine is put together almost a year in advance, this year a new strain of the flu popped up that wasn't expected, so the vaccine only helped about 50% instead of the usual 80%. Personally, I would rather get the vaccine than have no protection--I hate the flu!

A Dino run? That sounds like fun. I love dinosaurs, so if they named a run that up here, I would probably walk it as fast as I could. :)

Kristi, thanks for the info. I always wonder where I should put that inhaler....

Krista, public schools are closed. ;) And we've had no snow days, so it's a welcome day off! Sounds like you had a great walk this weekend--and I'm with you, spring can't come soon enough!

Morning all!
School vacation here so all the cherubs are home. I had hoped to get out and run before DH left for work. Mother Nature has it in for me as it is POURING and windy. I'm not a real runner yet because I am not going out in this, LOL! I am sure many of you would! What is frustrating is that it is supposed to be 57 today too, the only day like that this week, and it is pouring. I guess it will be the Gazelle for me today.

Hope your neck feels better Duckie. Can you call the massage a belated Valentine's Gift?:)

CAtching up from last week....

Debra - Good for you for resting those knees. Hope they're better soon! Please don't push, though. DOn't you just hate being a grown up sometimes?

Kristen - Welcome!!!! So glad you are here!

Ice Baths for Whimps -

Here are some tips from those of us who have issues with putitng their bods into teh cold tub.

1. First, I coall it a cold tub. No ice here, but our tap water is pretty cold.

2. Put on a hoodie and have a hot beverage by your side.

3. Just cover teh bottom of your tub with luke warm water, so that your booty does not eject you instantly. ;)

4. Get in teh luke war water adn turn the faucet to cold. FIll t'til covered. Sit 10 to 15 min.

5. Ice is probably better but even cool to cold water helps.

Shan - I still take a warm to hot shower later. The cold will stillstay in your legs. Shavign may still eb a trick over teh goose bumps, though. May want to do that another day. Ain't bein' a woman grand?

I did my Ice Fst 5K this weekend. Very fun. Got some pretty snow pix. Will try to post on teh report thread. Have a great week everyone!

Good Morning all!

Debra--Good deal on the Yoga! Sounds like fun!!!
Vic--WTG on your 4+ miler!!! Glad the feet are improving!
Ms Mighty Duck--WTG on your walk! Hope your neck improves!!!
Vicki--Singapore! WOW! I missed it...Did work transfer you? I've heard it's a nice place...
Jackie--Hope your ankle heals quickly!
Jeff--Hey there buddy...No need to rub it in that you'll get to see and wear your shirt first!!! :goodvibes

For me...

Ok...Yes, so yesterday was good day, I had a good 3 miler...Today did not start off so well... After the run yesterday, oh, yeah, and it was raining... my shoes were dirty. I took the off on the porch and accidentally left them there. Since we were planning on going straight to the gym tonight, I asked Matt to get them off the porch and I was going to wear them today. It had rained last night and he said the were probably wet. When he came in the house..."They are worse than wet." What??? "A cat SPRAYED on them!" WHAT!!! :scared1: You're kidding me right??? I could not believe this! I was so mad!!! :furious: Where is the "I'm so mad I could spit" smilie??? I just started crying. All the trouble and time it took me to find shoes and now these are all messed up! I don't have the $$$ to go buy new ones, but I don't really want to put these on my feet again! I hate to throw them in the washer because I'm afraid it will mess them up. The last time I did that on a pair of athletic shoes, the rubbed my heal weird... Ugh! We DON"T have any cats!!! Yes, this is partly my fault, I left MY shoes on MY porch, but the cat is NOT mine. We continually have these random cats at our house. When get home from work and we pull in and at least 1 cat per day scatters from under the porch or beside the garage... Our neighbors a few houses down have cats. The continue to procreate and they do nothing about it. The neighbor people say they are not their cats...they just feed them! If you feed them...they are YOURS!!! ugh! Matt so graciously took out the laces and sprayed them w/ febreeze, but they smell to high-heaven. :crazy2: I'm going to have to try to clean them somehow, but honestly, I don't want to put those things back on my feet...

So...this is how my day started off.

Mike & Jeff - Just for you, THE!

OK, the story of how my mother ruined my life and my typing. Mom's friend's ds was not valedictorian in HS, because he got a C in typing. Therefore, my db and I were not allowed to take typing. I am quite fast at my modiefied hunt and peck adn use many of my fingers, but the letters scramble badly. I could make perfect posts and spell check tehm, but I'm lazy and that just ttakes too long and you'd all suffer when I only had time for half teh posts I do now. I just couldn't do that to all of you. :rotfl:

Good luck finding a nice training route in Singapore. In spite of that problem I'm pretty envious of you right now. I've always wanted to visit Singapore and Hong Kong. Isn't the Raffles Hotel where you are supposed to go for a cool drink?

Terri

Denver weather in early April could be anything between 70 sunny degrees or30 degrees and a monster snow storm. Most April days are nice, make that really nice, but if you get a major upslope storm you really could get 2+ feet of snow. The good part, however, is the day after a big storm it's likely to be 60 and sunny.

Have fun, I'm envious of you too. In spite of nearly 11 years in the Boston area, Colorado remains my home.

Allyson

Don't be too self-critical here. I don't run in the rain either, or at least I won't start out when it's raining. If it starts to rain when I'm out that's sort of okay, but I hate stepping out into cold and wet.

Sorry Stacie. Good luck salvaging them.

58 degrees here, and pouring. Luckily today is lifting and biking.

Allyson, I wish I could. However, since DH brought me a dozen long-stemmed roses (despite my spa hints) (which were subtle, I admit, along the lines of, "You know what I really want? A gift certificate to the spa"). Perhaps I can convince him I'll be more fun to live with post-massage (he's studying for a statistics exam and barely knows I'm in the house, though).

Carrie, thanks for the instructions! :) Seems much better (although less entertaining) that the YouTube guy. Oh, and :rotfl2: I love the typing story!

Stacie, that so sucks. I'm so sorry--I would be really, really mad and want to spit, too, at the very least. I wouldn't throw the shoes in the washer, either. Hand wash them with vinegar solution and set them out to dry inside the house. The pet store should also have enzyme cleaner to help out. Good luck!

ironz - Way to go on teh PR!

TiggerJeff - SOrry about the humidity. It was much better upmy way. :rotfl: At least you had a new toy, though. That helps!

Sheryl - Some people can get by w/o rest days. But, you have to listen to your body. If you start sching or feeling pains, you must give yourself a break. Funny, I'd love to have to force myself to take a rest day. No porblem with those fo me. ;)

HIJeff - You kids are adorable! Tansk for th pic!

TXAng - I was running 5-mile races by 11 YO. I think he coudl handle C25K. Just make sure he's haivng ufn, though and don't push teh pace.

DKP - Glad you found a good yoga classs!

Helen - Good to see you!

Tinks - SO sorry about the fues. Ugh. That's a bummer and the crowds and teh new routes...

Duckie - Have you tried alternating hot and cold on your neck? That works for me. I used to pinch my nerve all teh time adn that did wonders. Salonpas patches help too.

Krista - I'm working too. Misery loves company. ;)

Allyson - You're obviously not a real runner, as you have some brain cells left and no better than to go out in a down pour. :rotfl:

Morning Everyone!

The deluge we had last night broke through the eco barriers in some of the undeveloped lots in our neighborhood. Georgia clay is about 10 inches deep in the street today. I feel very sorry for the guys trying to clean it up. Their heavy equipment won't move in it so they are having to clear it with shovels. Talk about some serious heavy lifting.

Question for the team challenge:
Does shopping for bathing suits with 3 kids count as cross training? I am seriously thinking about wearing my heart rate monitor to see how high it goes. First there is the 5"2 78lb fashionista that can fit a child size 6 on her preteen body. It is virtually impossible to find something that fits her and doesn't look like the cover of pedofile weekly. Second is her 9yo sister who is also thin (just not holocaust victim thin) who will take every comment I make to mean that she is fat. Finally there is the little brother who will find a suit in the first three seconds and spend the rest of the day saying "Can we go yet?" Nevermind, I am canceling summer.

Carrie- At my HS you had to pass a typing test to graduate. We took typing in 7th grade and if you didn't pass you took it again 8th etc etc. As a Senior, I was one of the most popular girls in school because I had taken typing with just about everyone!

I'm not a real runner yet because I am not going out in this, LOL! I am sure many of you would! What is frustrating is that it is supposed to be 57 today too, the only day like that this week, and it is pouring. WRONG - Real runners pay a fortune for their running shoes and do not want to get them so wet that they can't use them for the next 4 days. Running in the rain is reserved for races and that occasional panic run in the middle of marathon training when you just know you have to get the miles in. (that is the reason you save your old running shoes.)

Debra, ms. mightyduck, Jackie: I did it! I slept until 8:15 today! DH put the cats in another bedroom and closed all the doors and I put a pillow over my head. Next thing I knew it was 8:15 and they were wailing but by golly I got some sleep! Yippeeeee! I fed them and I went back to bed. Yes, it can be done!!!

Jeff: how was the new MP3 player?

Now, Mike: be kind! Carrie is a wonderful person!! So her typing isn't her strong suit but hey! she's really great at other things. Ahem, so what's the count so far this week?

Bill: great job on Billy's time! I can't remember which person it was who's daughters last year wanted to do a short race. I so enjoyed reading his posts about their training and eventual race. I look forward to hearing about Billy's training!

Krista, Steve: how are things going? What have you bought for the baby so far? When DD was born (2 months premature) all we had was a crib and no mattress and a stroller. We had to buy stuff fast!

Cruella de Mom: ANY shopping with children I consider cross-training! Add the stress of trying on bathing suits and you should get combat pay!!!

Off to run some errands. Have a great day everyone!!

Hi all!

I have been mia on this thread lately. Lots of LTO issues with my dad's health (AGAIN!) which has interfered not only with computer time but also training time (apologies to Herc's Heroes!)

My two friends I got started walk/running are still with me and coming along. They're having a tough time visualizing it ever getting easier. I remember all that and also remember the thrills of all the firsts! I really hope I can keep them going and get them to a 5K in June.

Mike - I really wish I could do the Cleveland Marathon, but it is (of course) a soccer tournament weekend. Of course, the tournament's at the beach so I'm not complaining too much!

Stacie - Congrats on your PR! You will be all set for the Minnie!

Jackie - Take it easy on that ankle! Are you planning on doing the Raleigh half in April?

Duckie - Think of the massage as physical therapy - not a luxury!

Stacie - Gross! I would also be mortified. Wish I had a solution for you. Good luck!

Carrie - Yes it is all you. You need to lower your expectations for the airlines.

Sorry I don't have time to respond to everyone; pd for any injuries/illnesses. Happy training!

Heck, haven't thought about it.

I don't see why we couldn't do it at LTT again this year.

Cool would you do it for us again? It went great.

Who is doing the MNSSHP again this year the friday night before the ToT?

Robert are we having Mini Golf again, I promise to stay out of the darn pond this year if you do. That really wasn't me it was PatsFan Bill ion a Panda suit. I would never act that dumb in public.

Debra and Duckie you guys are fun, I'm going to have to enlist you two in the "YARC", (You Ain't Right Club). Judy is our Queen and ruler. Hence forth, you will be official pretty princesses of the court of "YARC", bow to the Queen and tell your hubbies that you require presents on a regular basis.

Mike, I'm sure we could set up a nude polar bare plunge at the Epcot Lake. Remember it's easier to get forgiveness than permission. Wanna set that up for us. We will of course require Cam and Bill's services for a bit.

Happy Panda:hippie:

Good morning WISHers!

Hoping everyone is having a wonderful Monday.

Martha – WTG with the 3 miler!

Shan – WTG with the 3 miler!

Debra – WTG with the yoga class. Yes, the NASCAR Sprint Cup season officially started yesterday. My DW is not happy.

Vicki – Be careful out there on the SEF course.

ms.mightyduck – WTG with the 6.5 miler! I can’t believe it’s taking so long for my feet to heal up also. I never had blisters until I ran the marathon. They seem to get better every day, but it’s too long for me. Take care of that neck.

Jackie – WTG with the 10 miler! Glad Jr. was able to finish in the top 10. It was a heck of a race.

Jeff – WTG with the 8 miler!

Betsy – WTG with the 10 miler!

Terri – Take care of that back.

SamSam – WTG with the training!

FLBill – Don’t let Billy show you guys up out there. The not pit deal was strategy. Yeah, that’s it, strategy.

I need one of those. So do I ask for an inhaler thing-a-ma-bob carrier thing, or what? ;)

Krista – WTG with the 4 miler! Poor ol Hines.

Stacey – WTG with the 3 miler! Sorry about the shoes.

Allyson – I don’t run in the rain either.

Renee – Sorry about your dad. WTG with getting your friends moving.

In the office here too but with the markets being closed it's way quiet. Figured was good time to stop in here.

Hey teammates--been MIA for a few days due to an IL visit. Was a good visit, but all my spare time was taken up. Did get to the gym today for a run--3.2 miles. Cold is finally gone, now just gotta get my fitness level back to where I want it.

Good Evening!

Big Vic. Let us know how the request for the thing-a-ma-bob goes?:rotfl2:

Carrie. Remember spelling is highly overrated. (Typing is also highly overrated! Why doesn't the DIS have spell check?)

Postesf. So are we setting up a rotation for your DH to come clean? (My coworkers used to get the biggest kick out of Randy calling me every day around 3 to see what I wanted for dinner when I was working in Atlanta. I "lived" with him for a year while I worked here before I finally gave up and mvoed...ANd now I have to cook my own dinner LOL!)

Jeff, even in a stadium the weather looks beautiful. I am jealous. My boss came back today with a tan so it must not have rained TOO much!)

Hope everyone had a good Monday. I am jealous of those of you who got the day off. I had to work!

I went to the Y on the way home planning to do the strech/strength class I did last week. I really liked it. After driving around the parking lot TWICE, I drove home! Changed clothes and did 3 miles outside in 38.50. (Actually I think I wound up doing more the 3 miles, will have to check. I changed the route slightly!) And there were HILLS! YES! I did it! LOL!

I have a NEW question (needy aren't I?) My feet keep falling asleep around mile 2. It's hard to go on these dead things at the bottom of my legs? Any ideas? If I tie the shoes any looser that's going to be a problem.

I decided to do the Minnie 15K, but I am skipping EE. Randy won't make more then one Disney trip a year and it didn't look that fun solo! I am thinking about trying for Race for the Taste however. I also have the Komen here in May....

(Anyone heard anything on Peachtree's mess yet?)

Have a good week!

So, it turns out dh put my yoga mat in the garage and I couldn't find it to take a pilates class. They no longer have workout mats, so I was forced to have a stonker treadmill walk. Ewww. hated it.

I did some research, though: Despite the liquid caramel centers, Godiva chocolates are NOT a good substitute for sports gel. :) Tasted a lot better, but no help in terms of walking performance (hey, someone needed to check, right?).

And for those who read my stream of consciousness recap from last week, I have NO idea who that guy is, but he was there again. I just have to figure out what time he gets there and see him log in!

Carrie, I usually ice during the day and use moist heat before bed. But I'll do both tomorrow! :)

Cruella de Mom, I think it absolutely counts as XT! With a bonus if you found one that fit you! ;) And thanks for the "runner" perspective on the rain issue: now I know when I don't want to go out in bad weather, it is because I am a real athlete! :rotfl2:

Martha, congratulations! I wish it could be repeated tomorrow! Alas, back to work.... :( And the 3 miles is great! You can do it! :cool1:

Renee, I think I did a good job of looking pathetic on the sofa today. DH says I can go ahead and schedule the "therapy." And don't apologize to us! It's a long competition, and I hope you are not too stressed out dealing with LTO. Hope your dad is okay, too. And I bet you are a real inspiration to your friends!

PandaDave, wow! How did you know I ain't right? My students tell me that every day. Thanks for including me! Woohoo!

Vic, thanks for the encouragement! That blister thing is unbelievable--you'd think in a month, your body could have made a whole new foot! Take it easy. Let 'em heal so you are fresh for the next torture, uh, event. :) Oh, and I was going to ask for an inhaler thing-a-ma-bob thingie and see what happens. :)

Stacie, well, congrats on the clean house! :rotfl: Seriously, I can appreciate your point. DH is not taking this training seriously at all. He goes with me to mallwalk before the mall opens, and I'm walking, and he's eating a yogurt. I'm walking, and he's pulling a banana out of his pocket (a REAL banana--that's not a euphemism) and having another snack. I'm walking, he's window shopping. I'm walking, and he's standing in the ticketmaster line to find out what everyone is in line for. I'm walking, he's taking shortcuts to the other side of the mall. :confused3 he's going to be sorry on race day. That's all I can say!

Shan, I hadn't considered that the day off wasn't the same if the kids were home with you. I was just thinking it was nice to get a day off from kids! :rotfl: Hope you had fun with them! And I know you'll do great on the 9-miler!

Jeff, you are a machine! Seems like you have a full racing schedule! Great photo, btw! Thanks for sharing! (it looks like such a nice day there!)

Liz, you walked in 30 degree weather? That's makes you a real runner to me! :cool1: Way to go!

Stephanie, glad you are fine and having too much fun to stop in more often! 3.2 miles sounds like a good start for getting back on track.

CarolA, woohoo! Minnie! DH tells me every day that the Minnie is incompatible with the goals we have outlined for the household this year (which involves a kitchen remodel-$$$). :(

Yeah...He can be supportive by cleaning everyone's house!!! :rotfl: Good DH!!! I got home tonight (after 1.6 miles on the elliptical--30 min and 10.5 miles on the bike--45 min) and house looked good!!! Whew! I was worn out...No way I could have done it! :upsidedow

I'm here, and I'm fine. Actually I was unaware that we had tornadoes yesterday. :confused3 The weather was bad yesterday morning, but ended up being a beautiful sunny day after all. Thanks for "looking" for me.

Stacie - Great job on your PR, but so sorry about those shoes. Maybe try baking soda? Can DH come to my house too? Please, please please. ;)

Carol - Haven't heard a resolution to the Peachtree yet? I need to call mom and ask. Or may have to go look on the website. Hope it get resolved soon.

Helen: It's great to hear from you. Hope all is going well. And running in short bursts is better than not running at all, right?

Vicki: SEF! That's a new training strategy for you--it would make race-day breathing seem much easier. Glad to hear you're adjusting to Singapore & meeting friendly people.

Ms. Duckie: You be careful with those neck and shoulder muscles. Maybe you can con a loved one into giving you a free massage??? (No strings attached, of course.) That is, a home massage in addition to the professional massage that you so deserve. Not to mention the registration fees. You're a YARC princess...you deserve it! And I think you should give that Godiva chocolate as gel another go, just to make sure. :lmao:

Jackie: I hope your ankle is feeling better. Stress fractures are no fun. Hopefully a few days off will make all the difference. (Where's that fingers crossed smilie?)

TiggerJeff: Taunting us with the shirts, eh? Well, then, I'll taunt you with the 25 degree weather I'm having. Take that! :rotfl:

Betsy: WTG with the speed on the 10 miler! It's a good sore, I'll bet.

Terri: Oooh, back injury. Take it easy, if possible. I can't imagine how painful it is. Gee, I hope we don't have a rash of injured WISHers.

SamSam: I know what you mean about rest days; they make intellectual sense, but were hard for me to adopt. I'm a MfM convert now, but I still need to remind myself to let the body recover from time to time. Good job on the 2-miler and sticking to the XT.

Bill: Love the idea of a Dino dash. And the idea of keeping a little friendly competition all within the family. I hope you and your family stay injury and illness-free from here on out.

Krista: Erp, black and gold. I mean to say that. Looks like I'll need your help adjusting/assimilating to the Steeler Nation. Any advice? Oh, and good job wearing out Hines.

Allyson: As everyone else says, real runners run. In a variety of places and conditions. I'm not snow bunny or a rain rabbit. I'm a nice, warm-weather and dry-conditions tortoise.

Carrie: You're obviously a snow bunny. Good job on the 5k! Oh, and I like your typing; it's like a little scavenger hunt for hidden gems. ;) Great news on getting your marathon ressie in, too!

Stacie:  for the shoes. How upsetting! I hope someone has a suggestion about the shoes because I've never had too much success getting rid of cat-pee odor (lovingly bestowed on my shoes by my cats, and I wanted to kill them, so I can't imagine how you feel).

As for your DH, I'll happily take him off your hands. DOOD is a dedicated runner, and so our laundry/cleaning gets done when we're 1) in need of running shorts or 2) looking for running shorts.

Craig: I hope the XT went well. Thanks for your great advice thread, btw.

Cecilia: To my mind, ANYTHING you do with 3 kids counts as XT. Or if not that, hazard pay.

Martha: I definitely need your cats--or your security guard to protect me from my cats. I'm glad you caught some extra zzzzzs. I think you're doing well with the running & biking; it seems like you're over the motivational hump, anyway.

Renee: I'm glad your friends are sticking with the running, even if they're not totally converted yet. You're a good friend; I'm afraid I'd be frustrated.

WWDave: Thank you, oh thank you, Great YARC panda! YARC message passed on to DOOD, who asked me if my Valentine's Day presents count as presents. I reasonably said that my princess status does not cover presents before said status was granted. Hopefully that will get me some swag!

Judy: As per the Panda's decree, I hereby bow to your Queenly YARC self. :worship:

Vic: So long as you're happy with Nascar season (then again, I don't need to live with you.) :rotfl2: Can you argue that since Nascar represents the general spirit of racing, so you need to keep up with things?

Shan: Enjoy the movie. Everyone raves about it! And I know you'll rock your 9-miler!

AlohaJeff: Congrats on the Great Aloha Run & on the pace! :thumbsup2 I really enjoyed your video, btw. Now I can't wait to get on the road again, run the marathon & go the distance, and maybe hang loose with you. (Note for everyone: that sentence makes more sense if you've seen the video; it's well worth watching when you need that "why am I doing this" training boost!)

Liz: Ooooh, ToT and MNSSHP sounds like so much fun. You're all tempting me; now I just need to tempt DOOD.

Stephanie: Congratulations on the good IL visit--I love it when that happens. And WTG on the run, too!

CarolA: Hills! Wow, good for you. Sorry about the stretch/strength class, though; not being able to find parking is always frustrating. I'll be happy when spring arrives and I can bike to my club.

Allie: It's good to know you're okay! :goodvibes

As for me: Don't let anyone tell you that yoga isn't a butt-kicking class. Both DOOD and I woke up with slightly sore arms, core, and legs--that good kind of sore that says you actually have muscles, underdeveloped though they may be. Today was my C25K program and some XT, and I was slightly worried how that might affect my WO, but everything was fine. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's rest day, though.

Stacie – Congrats on the PR! That’s awesome! Sorry about the shoes, though. Yucky!

Shan – WTG on getting that 3-miler in before the storms!

Debra – Glad to hear that you found a good new yoga class. I can’t do yoga, I’m far too uncoordinated.

Vicki – Yay for getting adjusted to living in Singapore! It’s good to have friendly folks around, too.

Betsy – Congrats on the fast 10-mile loop! Was that the AT&T Marathon that you cheered at? We watched the coverage on TV – exciting finish for the full!

Terri – Hope your back feels better quickly!

Bill – Glad y’all are feeling better. The Dino Dash sounds fun!

Krista – Thanks for the website suggestion – I’ll definitely go check that out. Baby boy is doing great – I can’t believe he’s already over a month old! We had to pack away his newborn-sized clothes this week. Boo!! WTG on getting out for the 4-miler! How are you feeling these days?

Duckie – Hope your neck feels better soon.

Carrie – With how slow I am, I’d be willing to bet that little brother will be pushing ME to speed up!

Cruella de Mom – I hate swimsuits. ANYTHING involving swimsuits should count as cross-training.

Renee – Sorry about your dad.

Aloha Jeff – WTG on the race! Sounds like fun.

Thanks everyone for the advice on training with little brother. I thought he'd probably be able to do it, but thought I'd double check with people who know better before just diving on in!

CarolA....could your shoes be too small? I wear a size to size-and-a-half larger in my running shoes than my regular shoes. I don't like that the number is bigger, but I just ignore it, because my feet need to be healthy to keep carrying me. My kinda-BF admitted he has a thing about big feet---turns out he was running in shoes 2 sizes too small, all because of vanity! (no wonder he's had some injuries) :confused3

Good Morning Everyone -

Thanks everyone for commisserating on the whole swimsuit thing. Thank goodness for mix and match suits and the genius that thought of the tankini. AND, no tears the entire time!

Better yet, my fashionista actually found me some clothes that look like I belong in this century. Vanity sizing has gone crazy though: I am now a size 4 even though I haven't lost a pound since size 8. I hate it when they change the sizing and I have to try everything on.

Ironz - I claimed for years that serious spectating was its own sport. Dh never believed me until he cheered me on at a half last year. He said he would have to train to watch me run a full.

CarolA - I agree check your shoe size. Your feet should not be falling asleep at mile 2. Did you have your shoes fitted at a good running store? If new shoes don't fix it then I would head over to see Dr Peebles.

Man, I cannot keep up with this thread.

Cecilia: I have to try on everything. My complaint is that my DD13 wears a 2 and so do I. How is that possible??? When I was done bodybuilding, I weighed 112 pounds and had 12% body fat. At that point I wore a size 3. Today, I weigh about 20 pounds more than that and my body fat is a nice healthy 20% and I wear a 2. Hello.......and different brands are different sizes. In Old Navy, I can wear a 0, yes, a 0.

CarolA: I am going to vote with the rest to check your shoe size. There is also a way to lace your shoes so that you release the pressure on the middle part that I have heard helps also. My feet only fall asleep on the elliptical and it is because I am on my toes too much.

I hope everyone has a great week, keeps moving and on track. :cloud9:

Carol - My feet did that when I first started running. Are your calves feeling tight prior to your feet going numb? That and my shoes being tied too tight throught the middle of my foot. There is a special way you can lace the shoes to help aleviate this. I am sure someone has a link or you can probably Google it. I have been having a problem with my claves getting tight again (after a layoff) and my feet briefly go numb but not as bad as they did.

Stacie - See your DH knew you wouldn't be up to doing the cleaning. How thoughtful of him.

Vic - I am SO happy NASCAR is back!!! Jr did ok (he had a great week!!) At least he got a to 10. My guy ended up 2nd so I am happy (Jr is my DH's driver so he is somewhat my driver too - we aren't competitive so I like his driver (how could you NOT like Jr.) and he likes my driver)

As for me - I was able to get out on Sunday for a walk - I have decided I am adding walking to my training (well my training before training!! LOL) so I walked for 3.1 miles in 45 mins. Then yesterday I came home from work (yep I was one of the "lucky" ones who had to work yesterday. LOL) and I got 2.8 miles in 35 mins. Actually both days I felt good.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Tuesday.

Cecilia

We have checked the shoes and I really think they are the right size. Theres LOTS of room even when the feet are asleep LOL!

I think Tricia has hit it on the head. The running store guys also think it's related to my calf issues. My calfs are VERY tight and they think the muscles are tightening up and restricting the blood flow. They gave me a bunch of new streches to try so we are going to do those for a while and see what happens. They didn't mention lacing so I will cruise the web later today to see what I can find!

Lisa and Cecilia...On the whole clothes thing... I was looking at some old clothes in my closet that i just refuse to throw away because I want to fit in them again... One item was a skort from like 12 years ago...It was a size 10. Compare that to a size 10 jeans I bought 3 years when I was smaller and they are no where near the same size! That skort would be a 4-6 now. CRAZY!!!

During the biking my toes started getting cramps and going numb! I've been batting numb feet when running w/ no walk breaks, but now numb toes... My 2nd toe beside my big toe hurt so bad by 10 miles, I just wanted to chop it off! Ok, not really, but you get the idea.

Hi all! My wife, Kristen (kewz1) clued me in to this thread so I thought I would get in on it as well. I have met a few of you through Howard and Cam but look forward to meeting more of you at the next marathon weekend.
I started back to a consistent running schedule after taking a short break post-Goofy, but I am starting slow and short and am planning a gradual 11 month ramp up to next year's Goofy.
Unfortunately, no running today though. I am currently in Baghdad with the Army and we are in the midst of a pretty good sand storm - breathing, let alone breathing and running, is proving to be difficult. So, I get a "free" night.
I look forward to reading about everyones adventures as they get ready for their spring goals!

I get the numb toe thing, too. Normally big toe and second toe on right foot only. Did have new shoes fitted two weeks ago (are a size larger). Never hurts, just goes numb. Happens when walking usually - occasionally on eliptical, never on bike. Have checked laces over and over to make sure they're not too tight.

Maybe I'll try changing the lacing as well as stretching the calves more.

Stephanie: Yea for you and Scott registering for the 1/2!

Betsy: Thanks for the link. A little inspiration is always a good thing, especially in February.

WWDave: Oh, we're motivated all right... :rotfl: Naw, it's all good. We're getting to know each other better, that's all. Hakuna Matata.

Angie: Wow! That's some class for YOU not to run. Guess that's why they call it Body Attack, huh? Fierce!

Cecilia, Lisa, Stacie: What, you don't buy the whole vanity sizing thing? I sooo enjoy losing sizes without getting off the couch. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around zero as a size. The clothing sizing reminds of me the recent brouhaha over Jennifer Love Hewitt being a size 2. Who cares, as long as you're healthy?

Tricia: WTG on the walking. In decent weather it's one of my favorite things to do!

CarolA: Good luck with the new exercises! In the meantime, maybe you could see it as your body catching a few extra zzzzzs for you when you least expect it! ;)

Carrie: WTG on the 7 miles. What does "anything for a clear bike path" really include? Just curious....

kzmarathon: Welcome, Kevin! We've heard so much about you and I look forward to hearing about your "really going to train this year" training! Take care of yourself and thank you for serving! :)

Liz: See, that's the difference between you and me. On a day with a -15 degree wind chill, all I can think of is hibernating! You're a bold and brave one, you are!

AlohaJeff: Thanks for the shoe-lacing link. You and Mooshu have ordered WISH shirts, right?

Judy: Good luck at the doctor's. I hope it's "only" a sinus infection.

Sandy and Stacie: Thanks for the music links!

xterratri: Good luck with the rotation and your indoor tri!

Hey all... I have been super duper busy. It is beyond my ability to keep up with work at this time!!! :surfweb: We went to High School Musical on Ice this week, totally suprising the girls with it. First we went to Lambeau Field (Go Packers!) for a family fitness thing, then told the girls we had to go across the street to check out the training center. Next to the training center is the ice rink... so we walked that way instead. DD7 FREAKED when she say HSM was there. Great show, the girls LOVED it. The only complaint I have (and it's a big one) is the cost for concessions and souveniers. YOWZERS, a child's t-shirt was $35 (didn't buy one). We did buy a popcorn and 2 drinks for a whopping $30. And you thought WDW was expensive!!!!

Sooo, last night I did some snow shoveling XT'ing. We have so much snow here. I am starting to wonder if I will ever get out on pavement again. Sunday through yesterday afternoon we got another 10 or so inches!!!

Carrie - I hear you on clean paths. Our streets are so narrow from the snow pile up and the sidewalks are ice and built up snow. It is crazy. Last year I did my first spring run around the 2 week of March, I don't think it will happen that early this year. Oh and we are in the negative temps again this week!!!

Judy - Oh, take care. I hate being sick. I have had terrible headaches on and off for 2 weeks!

Stacie - My toes go numb every once in awhile. If I wiggle them frequently it helps. Also, when they go numb keep wiggling them.

OK, gotta go, this took me forever to write!

Unfortunately, no running today though. I am currently in Baghdad with the Army and we are in the midst of a pretty good sand storm - breathing, let alone breathing and running, is proving to be difficult.

Wow. I am so honored to be chatting with one of my heros. Thank you for your service. I just hope we won't sound to whining as we type from our safe and comfortable homes.

Cool beans! I just ordered a new pair of my running shoes at Running Warehouse for $61!!! :woohoo: The last pair of these I bought for $90+ at the store. I used the WISH discount. Fab! Only bad thing is they are on backorder, but it shows them being delivered three weeks before my half. Perfect.

Evening all!

Work certainly takes over during the day so I'm relagated to posting at night. Bummer. Don't those people know what's important!!

Z: WELCOME!! :welcome: Looking forward to meeting you in January 2009. You're running the Goofy? You're a better man than I!!

Judy: hope you get some relief for the sinus infection.

twoWDWfools: :scared1: not a good thing with a wind chill of -15!! I do hope that is not heading our way. Please keep it.

Cecilia: sounds like the shopping went well. Tankini's are good but I should tell you about the surfing lessons I had while wearing a tankini...waves...falling off the board....well, I really need to know you better before I regale you with that. It's worth the story.

Today is a rest day for me. I need it a bit today. IT band is doing a bit better which is good.

Happy training!

Hello, team! Back to work for me today. I love days off. I try to remember that if I didn't work, days off wouldn't be so wonderful. Mostly, it's February, standardized graduation tests are in two weeks, and we're all starting to burn out.

Today is 40 minutes of XT. I'm planning on doing pilates tonight for awhile after dinner (I eat so little during the day--because I'm not hungry--I am starving by the time I get home! So far since 3:30 I've eaten a slice of healthy banana bread (made from scratch this weekend), a can of V8 (I'm an addict--I really need to seek a treatment plan for this), and a "salad" of a soon-to-expire avocado and chick peas. I'll have a little soup (the "golden winter soup" from the cover of this month's Cooking Light) when dh gets home in a little bit.

Now that I'm signed up for the Donald next year, I feel a lot more anxiety about my training than I did before when I was thinking, "I'll start training and see if I can get there." Now I'm locked in!

Thanks to all who sprinkled pixie dust on my neck--it is feeling much better! I have full range of motion once again!

Wish I was in Disney World. My husband has officially declared four more trips in the next year excessive. And NO. Not four. He's negotiating ONE. I can probably get him to agree to more than one, but I suspect the Minnie isn't going to hold up (and probably not ToT, either!). We'll see.

Debra, I would try the Godiva as gel again but...I ate the last piece last night to see if was good for recovery. :rolleyes1 No discernable help, although there was no chocolate ice cream craving to report....

Betsy, thank you so much for sharing that! It made me think that a) I can do this! and b) there's no way I can do this! at the same time. Really well done. Thanks again!

Angie, hey, you certainly put your all into that XT! I hope you are feeling less sore soon. Body Attack?! I guess they did warn you.... Clearly, they weren't kidding about that!

Cecilia, if you found a swimsuit AND other clothes, you had a great shopping expedition! I bet you fit right in with your fashionista now!

Lisa, I agree. When I can put my size 4 butt in a pair of size 0 pants at Old Navy, something is wrong....

Tricia, your training for training is the same as my training training! Great pace!

CarolA, calves so tight they cut off circulation? Sounds hurty! I hope the lacing changes help!

Stacie, my toes get cold and try to curl up when I walk in the cold. I find that if I make an effort to relax my feet and get them warmed up through moderate walking, the feeling comes back. I don't know if that's similar? :confused3 Hope you get better!

Carrie, I can't even imagine what it must be like to try to workout outside in Michigan! We've had no snow accumulation and very little ice here, and it's still not spring enough for me. Here's hoping that spring comes soon!

KZMarathon, you are amazing. :worship: I certainly feel spoiled complaining about some cold. DH spent only 7 months in the Persian Gulf in '03, and he would walk miles to call me every morning before the sun came up and the lines got long at the phones.... I don't think he thought of it as "training." I wish I had thought to spin it that way! :rotfl: We'll keep you in our thoughts for your safe and soon return. :)

Liz, I discovered that same speed work training tip two weeks ago--I walk so much faster if I think I'll be inside sooner! :rotfl:

Jeff, thank you so much for the video! It felt like I was running the Goofy with you! I love the photo as you approach the Contemporary during the Mickey and it looks like the crowd is running off a cliff--the fog makes everyone vanish! You and Marcia look like you know how to have a good time racing!

Judy, sorry to hear about your sinus infection! Fooey! Hope you are successful in your XT and try to have a good week. :)

Sandy, thanks for reminding me about podrunners! I keep meaning to update the work out mix!

Jen, what a special way to surprise the girls! I bet they never forget it (I saw smurfs on ice... I am so old! :rotfl: ). And concession prices are crazy--we went to the movies this weekend and i could not believe what they charge! Good luck getting out of the snow drift!

Shan, I love runners warehouse for that reason! I bought some great seamless-toe socks last week from there (I have been training in a pair of them that I bought at the running store--but that's almost an hour away!). I found a great deal on my running shoes, too, but I was waiting little to buy my second pair (I've only had these for five weeks!).

Martha, I know what you mean about not being able to check in from work--what a bummer! Hope your rest day is restful!

First, thanks so much for what you are doing and here's to you staying safe and look forward to meeting you at WDW in Jan.

Second, my youngest brother was in Saudi during the first Gulf War and swore he was still shaking sand out of things 6 months later! Nasty stuff.

Hopefully it'll let up quickly and you can get out to run.

Hi everyone! After being MIA from this board for a few weeks, hopefully I'll be back on a regular basis and can keep up with these threads :).

I started a new group training program today called "no boundaries". We are training to run/walk or run a 5k in 12 weeks. (seems similar to couch to 5k) There are probably 20+ people participating, and we'll meet 3 times a week. Tonight we did a mile and a half, walking 2 mins and running 1 min. The distance wasn't horrible, being that I haven't been to the gym in sooo long! The cold, on the other hand, was something I'm not used to. I've done most of my jogging/walking on a treadmill, so this is a whole new world. Hopefully the group(which includes my husband who is so sweet and is supporting me by going along) will keep me motivated. :)

I've been working at my new job at Fleet Feet a little over a week now and I am loving it! There is SO much to learn, but it is all really good info, and I'm learning just how important it is to have good running shoes! LOL Have a good day everybody!

One of my friends go to go someplace over there AFTER the first Gulf War.

His job... Cleaning the equipment. He said the sand had caked onto tanks, Humvees etc like Cement and you had to literally chisel it off!!!!

(He did claim it beat being shot at in Vietnam, but not by much!)

Thank you for your service to our country and for making my lifestyle possible!
I just want to let you know that I really appreciate what you are doing and your service to our country.
Aside from that, keep on training so when you are back in the States you can do a 15K, or a 1/2, or a full Marathon. Hopefully with a bunch of WISHERS!

Finally, I've caught up with this week and last week, tho I can't remember anything anyone said so apologies for not sending personal messages (and it's 10pm at night my time so brain no working so well anyway).

So, still doing short bursts, though my 5k time was 3 minutes slower this week than last and I felt like I was dragging an anvil so guess it's time ot up the mileage again. I did book my plane tickets for the half (I guess) I'm doing July 6th, and today when I finished my run (weaing a half marathon shirt) I got accosted by a pregnant lady recruiting runners for a team for the half (raising money for the baby unit at the hospital) I was going to do May 18th - not sureI know enough people in Australia to contribute hugely to her fund, but hey, $20 is $20! so I may do that too.

Hey Judy - guess what, guess what - I went on a pony. 39 years old and never been on a horse - until Valentines Day when Tim surprised me. It was okay - though my horse did have to be on a lead, while Tim was allowed to ride his properly. It wasn't my fault - she got me on the thing, left me there with no reins and told me to scratch his neck to keep him still - sadly horse hadn't had that memo and despite frantic scratching on my part, decided to wander over to tims horse to bite it - and I had nothing to pull to stop it - so after a few muffled squeals and a less muffled expletive I wasn't allowed control of the pony!

So that's my news - this weekend we are going to Canberra to see 'our nations fair capital' - well actually I'm going to look for kangaroos hopping about by the side of the road on the way down, but don't tell anyone..... Helen

I got my run in on Monday and will take it easy leading up to the half on Sunday. Billy got in another 1.7 miles last night with Lynnda and a screaming Timmy. I think Lynnda was ready to drop the kids off at the house and continue walking to her parents house (5-6 miles away) just to get some peace. :lmao: Timmy is definately upset about something and just won't tell us what it is. :confused3 I just wish the kids would quit trying to rotate illnesses.

Helen - If you could ride the kangaroos, then that would be something. Getting accosted by pregnant ladies is something I don't think I would like too much. Lynnda did it to me twice but it was more like why did you do this to me. :rotfl2:

beckyb29 - Great job on your training. Glad you are able to get together with a group who has the same goals.

mightyduck - My retired in-laws feel that everyday off is wonderful and don't want to go back to work again. So I guess you don't have to work all the time for it to feel nice. ;) Good luck in your negotiations on more Disney trips. Although as you said, once you sign up you are locked into doing them. :rolleyes1

Martha - I thought Craig was supposed to pamper you which I would think includes making sure you have enough time at work to Wish. I mean professors just teach 3 hours a day 2-3 times a week at the most and then just sit around doing nothing. :lmao: At least that is what we felt alot did when in college.

Jen117 - Glad you had a good time even with the outrageous costs. As said in the past, we will gladly take your snow here but you have to figure out how to get it down here. ;)

Shan - Great job getting the shoes. Hope they don't take too long to get there.

Judy - Feel free to come on down, just don't expect an immaculate or even semi-immaculate house here. Having two bundles of pure energy doesn't do nice things to a straight house. Make sure your head doesn't explode while down here. I don't want to hear about it on the local news that someone else died at the Mouse House.

Cecilia - You mean you aren't supposed to keep the same swimsuit for 5 years. I guess that could explain why Lynnda keeps encouraging me to get a new one. :rolleyes1

Tricia - Great job on getting outside. Hope you are able to keep up the XT walks.

Carrie - Thsi is for you. ;) We can gang up on Mike with teh typos.

Z - Thanks for serving and we hope that you are able to stay safe over there. :thumbsup2

Hope everyone has a good day.

Helen I feel your pain about the pony. I have nightmares of the time Erica forced me to endure an hour of trail hell on the back of a demon. I saw and even have photo evidence of her confing with said demon before the ride.

This wild beast was supposed to follow along behind the other nice beasts. But NO mine kept wanting to wander off the trail, when I tried to rein it in it attempted to bite me. Were it not for my caution and lightening fast reflexes I would surely have lost a hand.:scared1:

The creature would stop suddenly and drop it's head tring to throw me over. Then it would rub me up against a tree, trying to knock me off. It repeatedly growled at me and when I got off it slapped me with it's briar encrusted tail.

Never again.

Debating whether to go outside or just do the Gazelle again today. It snowed some more last night. Not a ton but the roads are looking a little sloppy on the sides. And it is only 16 right now. I think I might just stay in. I really, really long for spring. I feel like it is so hard to get outside on any kind of consistant basis with this weather.

I think DH and I are taking a wee part of our stimulus plan check when it comes and buying a treadmill. That will be nice to have come November and December when we are faced with this weather issue stuff again.

Jen117--My girls would love that show! Glad yours did too. I hear you on the cost though. We took them to Disney on Ice a few years back and it is outrageous. $10 for Cotton Candy? Times 3 kids? Not happening!

Duckie--Glad the neck is feeling better

Sandy--I use a podcast for the Couch25K and absolutely love it! It is great to have someone tell you when it is time to walk and run and encourage you along

On the subject of horses, my daughters have been riding for 3.5 years now, they are 10 and 8. I have only been on one in Mexico on a trail ride but being around them for all their lessons and such, they really are amazing animals. And if they bite you, yup, it hurts! They ride one particular horse quite a bit named Rydgel and when he is in a mood, look out! Just as you described Panda, he stops shorts, leans forward to try and throw them off. They've gotton good at dealing with him but still makes a mom nervous to see a big beast trying to fling her child off its back!:scared1: They do love these animals though.

I have heard from reliable sources that the "Tag Fairie" is actually one of those half horse fellows. Disney found him in a Korean Bar and traded 3 ducks, a meerkat and a case of cheap scotch for him.

I have to work extra today since we have another manager out sick. So no gym this morning. The achillies is better today. I have been doing the stretching and icing and resting.

Good morning, team! More nasty weather for us, I am  ing winter! The snow started a little after 5 this morning and came down so fast that the salt trucks and snow plows couldn't keep up with it. And it's going to do it again tomorrow night and that time with ice. FUN! I just keep telling myself, this time next year I will be sitting at home and I won't have to deal with it. :thumbsup2

I got in 3 miles on the TM last night, it was alright, super boring though. I can't wait until Spring when I can get back outside. I don't mind running on the TM, but walking sucks.

To The Concession Complainers--Hey, that's my pay check you're complaining about! I work for the world's biggest concession manufacturer and supplier, we need those inflated costs!!! (You would all die if you knew how cheap it is to make cotton candy!!)

Z--:welcome: Stay safe in Iraq!!!

Duck--Glad your neck is feeling better! When you get into upper mileage, make sure you are getting enough calories. You don't want to mess with exercising and low calories.

Shan--Congrats on getting new shoes! That's a great deal.

Judy--Hope you are feeling better soon!!!!!! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Cecilia--Hope you had fun swimsuit shopping. I'm hoping I don't need a swimsuit this summer, I don't know if I can deal with a maternity swimsuit. :scared:

Martha--Sorry you can't keep up with the thread anymore! I have a hard time checking in during the summer, that's our super, busy season when you hardly have time to go to the bathroom! Hope Craig is pampering you!!

Bill--Here's some more :wizard: for little Timmy!!! I hope he is feeling better soon.

Thanks everyone for asking how I'm feeling, I feel fantabulous!!! I'm not nearly as tired as I was before, just getting nice and fat. ;) I think I am officially the heaviest I have ever been in my life. I just hope I don't end up weighing more than Stephen. I've started buying some things for the baby, I got some onesies and gowns last weekend, I just couldn't help myself. :) My mother-in-law bought the baby bedding this past weekend too, we haven't registered for anything yet, but we ran into her at Babies 'R Us, we showed her the bedding we liked and the next thing we knew she had it in her cart! Here's the link if anyone wants to see it: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2266594. Next on my list is getting the bedroom that we are going to use as a nursery cleaned out. It has slowly become a room we use for storage, so that should be fun.

Sorry to talk so much about me!!! I hope everyone has a wonderful day and happy training!!

GOOD MORNING TEAM!!

I just wanted to pop my head in here and say HI!!! :wave2:

Work is crazy!!! Major bad stuff, probably not building a marina, more like looking for another job. Anyway I miss you guys and my back is so ready to really start training again, just need motivation.

I did 2.8 in 27 minutes last night but the whole run was HORRIBLE!!! But I am very excited to run with DH tonight. We haven't been able to do that so much. I will let you guys know how it goes.

Sorry I have not been able to keep up on top of work issues our computer at home DIED so we have to wait for the new one to come.

Back to work now.

Glad to hear you are feeling fantabulous Krista! I just found out one of my friends at work is pregnant w/ #2. She's 9 weeks. The bedding is really cute! Did you mention if you guys decided if you were going to find if it is a boy or girl? I know a couple of folks who decided NOT to find out and wanted to be suprised. I'm too much of a planner for that. If we do decide to have kids...I'd have to find out!

To all you guys nursing injuries... :wizard: Hope you are feeling better soon.

I for one and not a big animal person. Horses kinda intimidate me. My friend's daughter fell off a horse (well, I think he threw her off) and broke her arm... Yep...Think I'll stay away!

Yay for shoes on sale!!! :woohoo:

I'm w/ ya Cecilia on tankinis! One pieces look horrible on me and there's no way I can wear a 2 piece right now! Gotta love the tankini!!!

Bill... Hope Timmy feels better soon!!

Everyone have a great day!!!

I can assure you, and Martha can attest, the only days during the past fall semester I didn't work was the 3 day Tower of Terror Weekend. This semester, thankfully, I'm not so overscheduled.

You are correct about summers, however. 2 days after commencement I'm off for Paris. While you and Lynnda are working and managing your 2 young men this coming May and June, I'll be "An American in Paris." So you got it partly right.

I actually worked in the tech industry for several years after my MBA, before going back to school for the doctorate. When I talk with my students and mention "when I had a real job," they do react to that.

Hope you figure out why Timmy was upset. Perhaps he wants to get out there too and only needs a little pair of Asics to make it happen.

Just look at the price of Euro vs. Dollars, and it makes you responsible :scared1: .

Honestly, I am wondering if this may be the last hurrah if the dollar continues to slide. It's pricey to live in the Boston area, but every time I come back from Europe I think "you know, it's really not too bad here."

Heck, I'd just go for it. Being responsible is boring.

Had yoga last night. I felt about as coordinated as when I "pulled a me" on the TM. Sad, but I feel it this mornning, so I worked something.

Kevin - Welcome back to the boards! Good to see you here again! Thank you for doing what you do.

Duckie - Knowing DIsney's coming is the only way Scott adn i stay off teh couch. It will make your first race so worth while after thinking about it all year.

Becky - Congrats on the gruop. SO much better when you don't go alone.

BillF - :goodvibes tahnsk! FYI - Love Craig's idea about the baby ASICs.

Helen - OMG. Why do I keep thinking this could only happen to you? or me, really. ;) Soudns liek a pony with an attitude, that's for sure.

Jen - Glad you had fun! I saw teh circus in that area a few years ago. I'm no Pake lover, but just seeing Lambo was cool.

Krista - OMG! DId Judy pick out your bedding! I see Pooh things will blend in quite nicely. Good job! I must have missed that you will be a SAHM. We'll have to remind you how happy you are not to travel in teh winter when your little WISH baby is having one of those days. ;)

Greetings Race Team -

Did three miles this morning on the TM. I am so jonesing to get outside! :yay: Thanks for everyone's kind words about my sinus' issue. I actually feel much better today.

Two things I wanted to mention this morning.....

WHERE IS KEVIN WITH MY TRIP REPORT??? I have nothing to read. popcorn::

I was thinking last night..... The fact that I have done not only one but two half marathons now still amazes me. Heck, that I do any races at all is pretty darn incredible! All my first 40-some years I was never even remotely athletic. For my first Half, though, I had Charlie with me. I was a nervous wreck until we passed the start line. For me, that time right before the race is THE most difficult. But what I was thinking about last night was this past January. He was doing the Full on Sunday so even though he did get up with me at 2:30am, I had to leave the room and walk down the AKL hallway, down to the bus, by myself. OK, maybe for most of you this doesn't sound like such a big deal but to me...That took guts. I remember every single step. From closing the door behind me, to walking down to the elevator, coming out into a deserted lobby. That was hard. Really hard for me. I was alone. I had to do it. And I did. I'm pretty proud of that. I don't think I'll ever forget those ten minutes. :goodvibes

OK, you may resume your regularly scheduled unmushy posting. ;)

Z - I too must add my thanks. Stay safe and know your efforts are very much appreciated.

Helen - OMG That's so funny! I mean, not that it didn't go well but that you thought of me! I'm so incredibly touched! That's so sweet! OK, so now...where's the picture??? Come on now, don't tell me no one took a picture of you on that pony?

OriginalBill - Well, thank you! That's the best offer I've had all week! :thumbsup2 I don't know HOW I got a reputation as a neat freak. To tell you the truth, right now we have a Haunted Mansion theming thing going on in our house. Not in my barn, however. That get's dusted every Saturday. The house? Well, not so often. Hey! I have my priorities!

WalkingPanda - In defense of all "hack" horses....meaning the ones found for rent....their lives are almost always awful. They are subject to neglect and abuse. They are usually undernourished, injured or in pain. Not at all loved and cared for. I can never blame them for biting anyone. Their lives are usually so awful. However, this is one of the reasons I will trail ride at Fort Wilderness and no where else. Those horses are all well cared for and seem pretty content. Perhaps you should try a ride there. :rolleyes1

Krista - OMG! :yay: It's HONEY BEE bedding!!!

Angie - Noooo! Oh no! I know how excited you were about that marina.

:goodvibes

That does take huge Courage Judy! You know how proud we are of you! I can't even say that I've done a half alone. I did about 4.5 on my own in a race and feaked out than. You are awesome!:thumbsup2

Hey all... so tickled pink at the moment. We have below zero weather again and I was super grumpy... then our favorite campground had a Beat the Clock promo, so I have been frantically calling to get a site for dirt cheep. GOT IT and a site we have always wanted but is always booked! Problem is that I am giving up a race to go camping in APRIL!!!! Please oh please let the snow be gone by then!!!!

Carrie - I am not a throw it in your face Packer fan. Love the team because they are here and do great things for the community! Lambeau is awesome and I am really sad about missing the marathon there this year. But I am sure I will have fun in Madison with Pat!!!

Angie - So sorry to hear things are not good at work. Hope everything works out for you!!

Krista - You are going be a SAHM? So jealous of that!!!! Sometimes I think my girls forget they have a mom (like in January when I was gone so much!)

WWDave - Sorry to hear that your life has been so rough. Maybe you were harrassing that horse and it was going to show you who was boss! Or it didn't like a panda on it's back? :confused3 My continuing back issues stem from a buck off accident with my own horse. Loved her, but riding bareback finally did me in!!!

Cool beans! I just ordered a new pair of my running shoes at Running Warehouse for $61!!! :woohoo: The last pair of these I bought for $90+ at the store. I used the WISH discount. Fab! Only bad thing is they are on backorder, but it shows them being delivered three weeks before my half. Perfect.

Shan--or anyone else who can tell me What's the WISH discount at Running Warehouse? I haven't seen anything about that yet. And I am feeling like it's time to buy some things to support this "habit". (Well, I already have, but could always use another thing or two--like shorts that make my legs look good!):rotfl:

Me--I can't believe I am already half way through my 12 week plan to make it to the Minnie 15k. I built in lots of extra slack for setbacks, and knock on wood, haven't had to use it yet. So now that I am up to running 4 miles, I"m beginning to think that I may need to do something (a race) in March or April just to test my legs. Thinking about the 10k at the Martian Marathon--Its only about 10 miles away and I see some WISHers are running the 1/2 on Sunday.

BTW, forgive my poor spelling of Lambeau. Too tired to look up the right way today.. Knew you'd know what I meant. I was very close to tryign to fit Madison in. It's 400 miles from the Mackinaw bridge run, though. Not gonna' happen.

Carrie and Jen--Yep, I'm going to be a SAHM, I will be going back to work for a couple of months for insurance reasons, but by this time next year, I should be home full time.

Judy--Maybe I can get like a 11x14 picture of you and hang it above the crib? I think it would be fitting. :) Oh, and I know exactly what you mean about having the guts to start the half marathon by yourself. For my first half at Disney in 2006, I talked my Mom into training and doing the half so I would have someone with me. We didn't run together, but we hung out before the race started and stayed together at the start. You should be very proud of yourself!

Craig--So jealous that you will be Paris this summer. Paris, England, and Germany are on my list of someday trips.

Maura--We get a 15% discount on Running Warehouse's website and free 2nd day shipping. Use WISHD as the team code. I don't think you can use it on Asics or Mizunios though. Congrats on training!!!

You guys are great! Thanks to all for the kind words and the welcomes to the group. The sand has thankfully decreased to a more sane level and I was actually able to get out for a 3 mile run this evening and it felt great. Running has been my sanity over here. I hope I can maintain the discipline when I get back in May and have a real life again! I am looking forward to doing some runs with my wife again (I'm sure she's really pleased to hear that!). :yay:
I will get back in time to run the Cotton Row 10k in Huntsville and was actually excited to sign up for it the other evening. Kristen is running the 5k that morning so we will bring the kids and make a day of it.

Great information about the WISH discount at Running Warehouse - I will due for some new shoes in about a month and will take advantage of that.

Thanks again to all!

Krista - LOVE the bedding! And I have to say, I am very jealous that you are going to get to be a SAHM! I am currently trying to get into the school system in some non-teaching, but school year only capacity. That way I can make some money, and still be home with Zack when he's not in school. Our crazy schedules just aren't cutting it anymore. And sometimes the extra money is really not worth it. I'd rather be home with my kiddo.

Judy - you should have called me - I would have walked down the hall with you!

I am going to try to go to yoga tonight (and not 'pull a Carrie' :lmao: Only kidding - love you!). But I left my yoga bag/mat in the minivan. Which Chad has in Boston with him at work. Argh! This is the issue when you have 3 cars - you always leave what you "need" in another car! I think they have some community mats, if so I will use that. Otherwise, I will bike or something.

This job search thing has me nuts. I haven't looked for a new job in 9 years! :scared1: It is scary but exciting at the same time. It is definately time for me to do something else. I tend to bang my head on the counter (seriously, I do) during the news since they say or do something dumb on air, or the producers & director screw me somehow. Umm, and I might yell some not-so-disney-like words from time to time. ;) But such is the life in a control room. Time to move on. Way too burnt out!

Krista - glad you're doing well and the bedding is adorable!

Craig - Paris will be great I'm sure. DS applied to Manchester Met (yes, Manchester UK) so if he gets accepted for fall term I'll take two weeks to go with, get him settled and do some serious sight-seeing!

Kristi - I'm sure it'll all work out but know it's crazy. DH is currently looking for something new. Is a techie but the place he's at promised advancements that just arent' happening for anyone there. Time to move on.

Thanks for the info on the discount at Running Warehouse. I really need to pick up running pants/tights.

Jen - where do you camp in Wisconsin? We have ressies in the Dells for May. Our April trip will be bit more local - if the snow ever goes away and temps stay above 30.

Doing some core work tonight since it's a rest day.

Have a good one everyone!

Wow - I finally caught up! I'm off from school most of the week (just need to go in once or twice and check on messages), and I'm having a harder time keeping up when I'm NOT working!! Guess I'm missing all those sneaky WISH board check-ins that I do during my work day!

Boy, still no snow here in Philadelphia. While I am not a big fan of winter, as far as I'm concerned snow is one thing that redeems it slightly. Maybe those of you buried in the stuff could just blow it slightly to the south and east. My kids sure would be happy about that!

I've had a pretty good week training-wise. I managed a much better TM workout on Saturday (with thankfully no embarrassing incidents this time :) ), and got outside for a great run yesterday. I also did a ton of walking this week - I was in New York celebrating my daughter's 16th birthday :scared1: and walked all over the place. I got to see the World of Disney Store there which was fun.

Anyway, I hope all of you who are nursing illnesses and injuries feel better soon! I try to get here more regularly so that I can comment to some of you directly.

Evening WISHers! Hope everyone is doing well. To all those with illnesses or injuries, here's some pixiedust: to get better soon!

Lily: so very happy to see you up and around. Don't tire yourself out but I'm so happy to see you!!

KiraG: snow is significantly over-rated! We've got some heading our way on Friday and Saturday that I'd happily send to you but I've got some friends nearby who don't want it. Hope you're able to get some things done despite having the kids home!

twoWDWfools, Kristi1357: hope you both enjoy your workouts tonight! Rest day for me but tomorrow I'll do something.

Z: great job on getting outside for a 3-miler! And add my thanks to all you are doing.

Maura: WTG on getting 1/2 way through your training plan! Yes, a race or two before the Minnie would be a good idea. If you've never run a race you should run one before the Minnie to give yourself some experience with it. You'll do great!

Judy: you are such an inspiration! Thank you for sharing. It takes real courage to do these races and when you face it and conquer it, it really means something.

Rest day for me. My trainer is on vacation this week so I'll do my own workout tomorrow after work. That can be hard but I have to do it.

Have a great evening everyone!!

Becky: Your running group sounds like so much fun! I'm sure you'll enjoy it, maybe even more than your Fleet Feet job. I'm sure you'll get sick of us peppering you with questions.

Helen: I love hearing about your adventures. I haven't been on a horse since I was probably 8 or so, and I can imagine the language I'd use now that I didn't know then! Congrats for adding a couple of halfs to your schedule.

Bill: Good job on the runs for everyone in the family. I wonder if Timmy is just trying to motivate Lynnda to move a bit quicker?? :confused3 :rotfl2:

Allyson: I'm so glad you're making progress on C25K and enjoying the podcasts; they drive me a bit nutters. And I love the plan for the check & TM; I'm trying to convince DOOD that it could go toward another trip to Disney.

WWDave: Too bad about extra work, as it interferes with spending time with us or training, but I'm glad to hear your tendon is better! :thumbsup2

Krista: It's so great to hear that you're feeling well & buying things. (It's called nesting, right?) I love the color combo of the bedding. It's such an exciting time, and I love hearing all the details.

Angie:  on the work situation & on the frustrating run. I hope things get better soon.

Stacie: Another tankini fan here...if you can get me into a bathing suit. :scared1:

Heather: It's good to hear from you--and to know you're keeping on track with your schedule!

Craig: Paris. I'm envious! But you deserve the time, as that academic schedule can really wear you down.

Carrie: Yea on the yoga! I know what you mean about coordination. My instructor kindly kept coming over to me to "guide me" into the correct positions.

Judy: WTG with the 3-miler. And :woohoo: for doing those halfs. I liked reading how just getting to the start can be a challenge--so true! You SHOULD be proud.

Jen: That must be an awesome campsite! It just has to be warm in April because you really deserve it after this winter you've been having.

Maura: You're doing awesome on your training! :cool1: Definitely sign up for something, if for nothing more than to test your race-day strategies out before the Minnie. And I can't believe I'm about to say this to someone on another team, :rotfl: but race miles count double for the challenge!

Z: Good news that you'll be back (relatively) soon & have a race scheduled. Another marker in the Goofy training. I also think it's great that you're making races a family event. :goodvibes

Kristi:  on the job search. I know how challenging and frustrating it can be. I'm sorry to hear you're so burnt out at your current job, too, as that makes your job search even more stressful.

Liz: Core work. *Shudder.* But so necessary.

Kira G.: If it's any consolation, it's snowing in Pgh right now, so maybe you'll get some if it drifts the right way across the state. I'm glad you're having a good training week!

Martha: Good for you for not slacking while your trainer is away. One of the trainers at my club was saying the other day that he breaks up with clients who aren't motivated to work on their own. He'd love you!

As for me: Another day on the TM, etc., but the MOST IMPORTANT news is that last night DOOD tells me we're going away for a 4-day weekend to celebrate my 40th b-day in April...to WDW! He wanted to keep it a surprise but decided he should tell me just enough about it so I don't make other plans. He's making all the arrangements in secret, except for the flight, and just wants me to tell him if there's something special he should add to the mix. DOOD likes Disney all right, but not as much as I do, and he's usually happy to let my type-A-ness take over. So the fact he's planning this whole trip is the best part of the whole b-day celebration. :cloud9:

If only NH and WI were closer....

Debra - that's awesome about the brithday trip to WDW! I had surprised Chad with a quick 2 night trip to WDW when he turned 30. I think I had more fun planning it than we had on the actual trip!

Well, I didn't get to yoga tonight. I am a huge slug today, for real (love ya, Dave! ;) ). I think I am just physically exhausted from my 6 miles Monday and 3 miles yesterday, on top of 5 hours sleep per night. Add to that the stress of starting to job search, and well, I have no excuse. I skipped yoga - it was wicked cold out too! Much easier to go to Uno's for dinner instead! :rotfl:

I will get back to it tomorrow.
Off to see if I can get Zack to bed early, so I can go to bed early...

GOOD EVENING TEAM!!!

Ok so I feel a little better!! Angie & Bobby are back!! :cool1:

The longest run I have had since surgery is 5 miles. We did 4.8 miles tonight and we did not do a very good job of keeping track of our time but we did get that first 2.2 miles - 19 minutes and second 2.4 miles 23 minutes. Didn't get the first .2 anyway... Still got a good average!!! Maybe it's all the pent up frustration from work. :confused3 I always run so much better with DH - we push each other. Gotta go to TECH practice at church, just wanted to share my good news with my TEAM :yay:

The doctor finally said Timmy had an ear infection. He had been clear up till now but that seems to be causing all his pain. I still think it would have been easier for him just to say so but I get glared at with that suggestion. :lmao: Now we have medicine which will start tomorrow (first try with penicilan so have no idea what will happen) so maybe the end is in sight.

I don't think they make Asics that small, although it would probably help if he could walk first. He is still unsure of taking that first step, which is probably a good thing since he is still catchable when on all fours. :lmao:

Craig - I feel the need every now and then to poke a texas (lowercase was intentional) grad and see what happens. ;) After causing a few of my grad professors to hide when they see me coming, I know all too well what they get to put up with and have the utmost respect for them. :thumbsup2 I actually asked one if he ever went home since he was replying to emails at work at 6:00 AM and 11:00 PM the same day. :scared1: Have fun in Paris and just remember that everyone hates Americans or so the media would have us believe.

Judy - So the horses get everything dusted every week and poor Charlie doesn't. Hmmmm, mental note to sleep in Judy's barn if we ever get up that far. ;) At least you didn't make a wrong turn in the lobby and wind up playing with the giraffes or zebras.

Debra - I give up, what is DOOD. I can't figure that one out. Good job with the TM though.

Krista - The bedding looks nice. Now the fun begins in trying to get everything that the bedding is supposed to go on. Congrats on being a SAHM, Lynnda loves it (except when they have earaches and scream all day ;) ) and doesn't want to go back to full time work any time soon. Steve - perfect chance to get more tools to make a crib. :rolleyes1

Angie - Great job on the run tonight. I hope you don't pay for it later.

Kristi - Good luck with the job hunt. I hope something works out for you.

Well, my big exciting news is that I had my 6-week postpartum appointment today, and I'm officially restriction free, so that means I can start running again!!!

Of course, this news comes just as we're having visitors for a week, so I'll probably postpone starting until they're gone. But I'm so excited!

Time for your weekly dose of insanity from thndr "doesn't know when to stop" matt!

Returned last night from our multi day jaunt to Death Valley and Las Vegas. While out in Death Valley enjoying the gorgeous scenery, I completed one of the toughest runs I've managed to date. Prior to going I scouted out google maps and gmap-pedometer to find where I could do a 13 miler for my taper. Initially I was going to run either to/from Badwater (lowest elevation in the US at -282 feet) from our campsite, but that looked like 17 or 18 miles. I decided to involve Dante's View, a peak only a few miles laterally from Badwater, but over a mile in the air. :upsidedow I worked the road that goes up there backward and discovered that right where it meets the main highway that comes up from the valley was the 13 mile mark.

My loving DW was willing to get up with me predawn around 6 and drive me the several miles to the start point. Luckily there was plenty of elevation gain on that drive, and that put the start at 1989 feet. She was in the rental, which due to a really late arrival at LAS was a free upgrade from our reserved compact to a Infinity FX35. Highly recommend flying into LAS late on a Friday of a 3 day weekend with a bunch of conventions going on so you get "whatever is left" for the price of a compact... Same nutrition plan as usual, gatorade at miles 2, 6, 10, and gels with water at 4, 8, and 11.

After the first few miles I was able to mentally make the gradual uphill my "flat" and just treat the steeper portions as hills. From mile 7.5 on though that all went away, as the hill just became constant and relentless. Across and up yet another valley I climbed, straight ahead seemingly making no progress horizontally or vertically for miles. Then I reached the actual mountain range, and it became twisty, turny, switchbacky, and even more steep. My run was probably normal walking speed by then as I struggled to keep one foot in front of the other. I had already been averaging around 11:30mpm instead of my usual 10 or so to compensate for the hills, but soon was in the 12's, and very soon after that in the 13s. I had taken a picture at the bottom of a sign that said "Last 1/4 mile 15% grade" so I knew the worst was yet to come.

Talk about trying to run up a wall, nothing like being 13 miles into a run and hitting a grade people are having trouble driving up. This was the only portion of the run I was forced to walk a few dozen yards, sadly within 1/4 mile of the finish. My calves were on fire and my hamstrings were feelin it too. Then I saw DW waiting at the top though and I managed to wobble my way up to the top. Upon returning home and checking the Garmin, I can confirm the final elevation of 5497 feet. This means...

Total elevation climbed in 13.33 miles and 2:42:45: 3509 feet :scared1:

On a sadder note the various hiking trails and running around Las Vegas trying to catch shows dinner reservations and plane flights has done a real number on my shins, and it looks like I'll be biking only hoping for them to heal prior to the marathon on 3/2. After that I'll probably be laying off the running for a while (likely during my next deployment), hoping that when I start up again it will be pain free.

A belated thank you to all those who have welcomed me to the WISH familly! :grouphug:

I made it to the gym on Monday and did 3 miles. I ran nearly 2 miles of it but not consecutively. I felt like I have a very long way to go but I was happy to have made the attempt. I haven't honestly run -- I mean really run, not just walk with a slight jog thrown in here and there -- in over a year. One step forward...

I have plans to hit the gym today. I figured I should post it so you all can hold me accountable!!

Happy training!

Yeah with gas prices, this summer's trips will be much closer to home.

Greetings -

I did three miles on the TM this morning. I didn't want to get up at 4:15am, since I had an eclipse hangover. Stayed up WAY too late, but it sure was cool. :cool2:

Krista - Oh that would be just plain mean! :scared: Don't scare poor little Judith Anne like that. Have you actually SEEN pictures of me? No no no.

Kristi - My mom was a cafeteria lady so she had the same schedule we did. Of course, this was nothing but mortifiyingly embarrassing for me at first. Until all my friends found out that we could have all the ice cream sandwiches we wanted! :thumbsup2 I'll remember your offer for next January. Although, wait, Charlie will be going Goofy so he will be going with me. OK, maybe we can go volunteering on Sunday together. That didn't make me so nervous, but, well, as you know, I didn't exactly read my instructions and did a lap around WWoS at 3am. Not too bright of me. So, ummm, anything you want to tell me in an email???? popcorn::

Martha - Awww, shucks, thank you mam. Doing the races doesn't scare me nearly as much as coming back here after a year of training and telling you guys I chickened out.

Debra - Oh thank you. :goodvibes I am probably more amazed than proud. OMG how exciting! Yeah, when I turn 40 I want to go to WDW too! :lmao:

Angie - Angie! :woohoo: Angie! :woohoo: Angie! :woohoo: YAY! You go girl! YAY!!

Horsetamer Panda - No, no, I know nothing at all about working for the government. I work in big business. Where everything gets...I can't say it. It would come out like this **********. :rolleyes1

Matt - OMG Matt! You make me laugh! :lmao: Oh my goodness you are funny. Matt, let me just say, it made me nervous even FLYING over Death Valley. You are most definitely THE man! Holy cow am I impressed!!! I'm sorry to hear about your shins, though.

Hello, team!!!!!! So I just signed up for the half marathon, I was going to wait until the last minute, I don't think you can get closer to last minute than 85% full! I just hope I am able to bounce back as quickly as I think I'm going to be able to. I may be in for a rude awakening!! Yesterday was a rest day for me, I'm supposed to go to Gold's tonight and bike, but it's supposed to start snowing around 1:00 and snow through the night, so I don't know if I'll make it or just head home and walk 3 miles on the TM.

Angie--So sorry about the marina project, I know you were really looking forward to that. Nice job getting your miles in, but please, please, please take it easy!!

Martha--You must have a lot of self-discipline to get your work-outs in even though your trainer is on vacation. How is your IT band doing? I know it took me until March before my IT band was completely healed after the marathon last year. It still bothers me from time to time when it's cold out or if I'm running hills. This is very belated but, I take my hat off to you for finishing the marathon with a great time, I know first hand the pain you were in, congrats again!

TX Ang--YAY on getting clearance to run again!!!! :yay: :yay: Is 6 weeks the norm for waiting to start running again? Does that include walking or just running? I'm glad everything is going so great with little Sean.

Kira--Your trip to NYC sounds like it was lots of fun. We're supposed to go to NYC in April (still trying to talk Stephen into it :rolleyes1 ), I'm excited because I have never been there.

Debra--Don't you think my Toddler Terrible Towel will look awesome in the baby's room?? ;) I swear that's not why I picked black and yellow honey bees. :) Congrats on your surprise Disney trip, that sounds so exciting! I wanted to go to WDW for my 30th birthday this year, but since my birthday is 3 weeks before my due date, I don't think that's going to happen!

Bill--I am so glad the doctor finally figured out what was wrong with Timmy! That must be a huge relief. Stephen plans on building shelves in the basement for storage, so between that and putting the baby furniture together, his tools will get quite the workout. ;)

Kristi--Good luck on the job search! Don't sweat missing yoga last night, I've found if you really have no energy to get a work-out in, that's just your body telling you that you need a rest.

Matt--That sounds like quite the run! Wow! I hope you did something extra nice for Cheryl for getting up so early for you. :)

Kristen--Congrats on your 3 mile run! Just put one foot in front of the other and try not to look at the long term too much. You just accomplished something you haven't done in over a year, that is HUGE! :cheer2:

I hope everyone who goes to see The Spirit of the Marathon tonight enjoys it, it's a great movie. Take your tissues! Oh, and I know this was on another thread, but about eating popcorn while watching the movie, I say go for it! I had a Cinnabon pretzel and blue raspberry slushie. Worth the calories! :thumbsup2

Hey all. Just back from a great workout at the gym. Cold and raining/icing this morning, so I hit the treadmill. Got in 4.12 miles in 40:00 (including 5 min warm-up and 5 min cool down) Felt great! Finally getting back to where I want to be about a month post illness.

Angie-Great to hear that your run was so great. But like Craig said, please take care of yourself! Sorry to hear that work isn't going so great, another door will be opened soon, I'm sure of it!

Krista--Be careful in all that snow. And congrats on signing up for the half--that 85% number is what pushed Scott and I to sign up as well. Scary to think the 1/2 might be full before March

Debra--Yay on the surprise trip!:yay: I would love a surprise like that, but, alas, my DH is afraid for some reason that if he plans a surprise trip that he won't get it exactly how I would want it. Hmmmm, guess that means you're not the only one with a type A vacation planning personality (They call me the packing nazi 'round here;) )

Congrats to everyone getting those miles/minutes in. It's been difficult for me, cuz the next race officially on my calendar so far is the 1/2 in January. Must add more......Okay, should go fix DS some lunch. Have a great Thursday all!

Last night I did 40 on the TM. It wa -20 degrees this morning and I am so sick of the COLD!! Tonight I am planning to venture out to Bootcamp, if all works out for me.

Krista - I registered last night also. Since I am gone part of next week, I didn't want it to close while I am gone. Did anyone notice that the transaction fee went way up. I don't remember spending that much just for the convenience! Also, why is it the 1/2 is only $10 less than the full??? Hmmm, sounds like a money scam to me!!!

Matt – Wow! That’s insane! Hope your shins feel better quickly.

Kristen – WTG on running so much of your 3 miles!

Krista – I know they say that the first 6 weeks postpartum you shouldn’t overexert, so I was super careful and didn’t exert at all. Honestly, I’ve felt like I could go out and start a C25K for about two weeks now, but didn’t want to push it without a doctor’s approval. I’m no expert, but I would think that you’ll be fine for the half in January.

Stephanie – Glad you had a good run this morning!

I feel like a million dollars today. We put Sean down to sleep last night at about 9:45, and he slept until 6:10 this morning!! First time he’s slept through the night! :woohoo:

Jen - I didn't realize Madison was a WISH event until after I signed up for Mackinaw. However, it's not without possiblity that we could re-route to ROchester, MN that weekend. Then mayber we could do Madison on teh way home. (DOn't hold your breathe, though)

TXAng - WOo hoo for being aboue to work out again. I think going to the movie is a great way to taper into things! ;) DOn't forget to start taht carb loading for traning again! popcorn::

Matt - :upsidedow

Stephanie - SO glad you finally had a great work out!

Krista - Woo hoo for working out!

Bill & Lynnda - Hope the antibiotics are working. BTW, it would not surprise me if a child of you 2 could run before they walked! ;)

Kinda and Gentle Panda - Yeah, must have forgotten about teh slugs comment. :rotfl:

Kristi: It sounds like you needed a bit more recovery time and a bit of a "mental-health day" to escape the stress of the job hunt. (And for me, mental-health days always involve pizza!) You deserve it!

Angie: Yeah! I'm glad you're feeling better. It's so cool that you and DH push each other--in a good way, not in a War of the Roses way! I hope times just keep getting better and better for you (both race times and your everyday life).

Bill: In an earlier post, I rechristened my DH DOOD, pronounced Dude, and the acronym refers to "Dear One of Debra." What, that wasn't perfectly clear?? :confused3 :rotfl: Anyway, I'm so glad you now have a diagnosis for Timmy and a course of treatment. Hopefully the rest of the season will be illness-free.

TXAng: What a good day for you! You'll get to see Spirit as a prelude to resuming your running--I'll be it's great for your inspiration (not that you need it). And :woohoo: for Sean sleeping through the night.

Matt: THAT's a taper??!!: I am seriously undertraining. :lmao: Wow, that's impressive. WTG! I hope your shins heal soon, though.

Kristen: Great job getting back on course. You're making good progress!!

Judy: I still say you should be proud! Wasn't that eclipse cool? Very colorful and well worth staying up late. :3dglasses I'm impressed that you got up that early to run, too.

Krista: I'm so proud of myself. I actually got that reference to the Terrible Toddler Towel! I say, start the kid out when he or she is young, otherwise they'll end up like me! ;) Yea for signing up for the half--I'll be able to scream team for you!

Stephanie: WTG with your run on the TM! It sounds like you're recovering nicely--now if the weather would just cooperate. I'm so glad to know I'm not the only person whose trip-planning behavior gives their spouse pause. DH proposed to me at WDW, and he was more nervous about planning that trip than the proposal. (Of course, I laughed when he proposed, so what does that say about our relationship?)

Jen: I'll get to scream team for you, too! About those Disney race fees...yeah. They eat into my vacation fund!

Carrie: When and what is the Mackinaw event? That's not tooooo far from my parents' home.

As for me: It was a light, easy day of core work & some flexibility training after yesterdays TM. The knee is liking the gentler, kinder Debra and I'm trying to curb my impatience. My abs? Now, that's a different story. They keep telling me to that they liked me better when I ignored them.

Well, I got in 7 miles tonight. 2 1/2 on the TM and 4 1/2 on the bike. 45 min total. I just get so bored on the TM that I couldn't stomach more than that. Boy it's going to be so hard trying to increase mileage if I get bored at 2 1/2 miles!

To everyone who is recovering from illness or injury, pixiedust:

We are apparently in for snow, sleet, and I swear they are even saying pestilence and frogs with the odd boil thrown in! Super, duper fun!!

Have a lovely evening everyone!!

I have a question about annual passes. We bought the best one last time but this time we are thinking just getting a regular AP. Is the difference just that you don't get free water parks with the regular pass? Can you still do the park hopper thing at the Epcot, Magic, MGM and AK?

We never once went to a water park and the difference is about $150.00 each.

AP Panda...I'm not sure if the water park admission is the only difference, but you certainly can park hop with a regular AP. That's what I have. I figure, if I ever decide to visit a water park (which would be on rare occasion--haven't been in the 3 years I've had an AP), I'll just buy the ticket for it.

and....I have to tell you a funny....I play a Mah-Jonng solitaire type game on the computer when I am just killing time. One of the tile sets has a panda in it, so I always think of you when I see it! ha!:goodvibes

Panda...I *think* the only other thing you don't get with the regular AP vs. the premium version is the access to Pleasure Island. I have one..and should know better....but for the life of me I can't think of anything other than PI and water parks.

Martha...great job getting the workout in tonight :). I'm with you on the treadmill..I really can't stay on the thing for very long. It is just awful! But with all this crazy weather I've had to be on it more than normal. Tomorrow is looking REALLLLLY bad!!!!

Matt....:worship: Incredible run!!!

Krista: Congrats on signing up for the half!!! :) You will be ready..I just know it!

Debra: Glad the knee is feeling better!!!!

Stephanie: Good to hear you're feeling better and had an excellent run!

Kristen: WELCOME and congrats on a great run!!! :thumbsup2

Sorry to the many I missed...it's hard to keep up with this thread LOL!

As for me....Had a busy week and got some great workouts in the books. I'm trying to get a little speedier for the Minnie in May :). So I added a speed workout last Friday...and that actually was fun! I know! Fun?!?! Who knew? It was really nice to mix it up. Today was my Hill Repeat day...that was another interesting workout that turned out to be fun!!! After my warm-up I did 3 hill repeats (working up to 6) and then ran another mile. The shocking thing was that I thought I was running an easy pace...but finished the mile in 8:01 after running those hills. That was really cool :). Now if only I could keep that up!!!!

Tomorrow is going to be a MESS...snow/ice/sleet YUCK! I'm supposed to get another run in the books...we'll see if that happens. I've got the bike trainer all set up in case I have to settle for some in-home exercise!

Panda - yes, the only difference is the water parks. We had a premium one years ago but just get the regular one since we don't go to the water parks more than once a year if that. You do get a discount on tickets for water parks if you do decide to go and still get the 1/2 off mini golf.

Hope everyone nursing an injury or cold gets better soon.
Way to Go for everyone's efforts and accomplishments!

Is DH's bday today so won't be working out tonight. Have dinner ressies and tickets to opera (Baber of Seville - the one that has the music they used in Bugs Bunny cartoon). However Sunday is supposed to be 38 and sunny - heat wave! Will actually be able to do an outside long walk! :woohoo:

Not too much new for me. Matt did get a phone call from the Neurologist yesterday. His EEG and Bloodwork came back looking good. They have now released him to drive short distances (within State) and hopefully when we go back for a follow up next month they will lift all driving restrictions! yay!!! :dance3:

Hi everyone, I'm posting here because I want to be on the WISH Racing Team Roster!

I am not good at keeping track of all the posts on this board - I only have a little time every week to enjoy these boards, and so I don't post very much. But I love that everyone is so supportive of everyone else.

So please add me to the list! I'm doing the 1/2 marathon in 2009 and maybe a few other Disney races this year if it all works out. I've been running a few miles almost daily, but no official "training" plan yet. Just running for fun & stress relief right now!

Thank you princess, that was a very nice thing to say. It's rare for someone to say something nice to me since I was razzing the teams, trying to get them wanting to beat me real bad. Now most of them just want to beat me up. So kinder gentler Panda is only playing nice. The thing about Vic and Mike on the tripple Ds thread was nice.

Amy and Liz thanks for the AP information.

I'm glad that I'll share the half course with you on January 10. I assume that means Steve will be doing the full. If he would push the baby in a jogger, then I might, just might be able to keep up with him for 26.22. Do you suppose the race director would allow this variance?

Kristi

Good luck on your job search. I wish you a smooth process and successful result.

Today is my speed and strength workout. My plan is half mile intervals, easy, fast, repeat, 5-6 miles, with the fast intervals right a 9 mpm, my target Minnie 15K pace. My only issue is I've felt pretty fatigued the last week from my training, and I wonder with 72 days to the race am I pushing too much too soon? I'd hate to peak about April 15 and have nothing in my legs on race day.

Debra

I'm a dude too, or at least I am when I'm on a surf board. In the words of Jimmy, I'm an "old fart middle aged surfer," and a beginner at that, but man is it fun and the hardest work imaginable.

Best to all

Jen and Kristi - By no means would I be any better when mixed with a WISHer. IBesides posting my info, I'd feel the need to discuss it all in person.

DKP - The MAckinaw Bridge run is the Saturday of Memrial day Weekend. It's an awesome race. very small. Hot catered breakfast afterward. It's so different from Disney, but very cool. They give you a tiem for a bs=us and you just start after the bus drops you off (or after you make the last potty stop, as there are no potty stops on teh bridge. lol) You are on it fro sunrise adn it seems liek you have the bridge to yourself.

Stacie -  fro dh's results! That shoudl take a load off you, right?

AP Panda--I have purchased the regular AP when buying. Although the family tries to get to a water park when we go, we are usually not successful (they have fun just playing in the BWV Evil Clown Pool). As to the couple of times we have made it to a water park, there is a DVC discount on water park tickets and I believe there is also a AP discount (but would have to verify). As others have said, you can park hop all you want with the AP (I did 4 parks in one day ToT weekend).

So, I haven't finished catching up on this thread.... Just here to celebrate some non-training related outdoor sports--snow dogs!

We have a snow day today (our first snowfall of the season), so I took my friend, Robin, who is our rescue springer spaniel, outside this morning to make a "snow replica" of us....

Catching up here.... Apologies in advance if I miss someone...

Helen, I hope you see kangaroos, too! And I'm afraid of horses--they have big teeth! And big feet!

Bill, I hope Timmy's ear(s) are feeling better. I hate ear infections.

Allyson, sorry the weather has been keeping you in. Work that gazelle! :)

Krista, I love the bedding! And, like you, I am hating treadmill workouts. I hope spring finds us soon!

Minnie Marathoners, I wish I was joining you! Right now, it doesn't look like we're going to get the flight we need at the price we want to pay...

Craig, I teach high school and every now and then a student will ask me if I have a job. I try to tell myself it's because I make it look easy....:rotfl:

Carrie, I have had many embarrassing moments at yoga classes.... Including falling on my face and knocking other people over. Coordinated I am not.

Judy, I have so much admiration for you. I don't know if I could do it alone. I am bringing dh along because that long walk alone would probably be too overwhelming. You are so strong!

Jen, congrats on the camping spot! Some of my best memories growing up were of the camping trips we took (especially the first year when we didn't know enough which spots NOT to take, and our site was under 2' of water for the weekend! :rotfl:

Z, you'll be in our thoughts--come home safely! (And it's true--after nearly 5 five years, we still have sand in some stuff that dh brought to the gulf!)

Kristi, congrats on the new job! I hate job hunting, and I switched jobs this past year myself. I hope you are happy with your new employment!

Kira, did you get snow today? We have some here at the shore.... It's raining and slushy now, but will turn into snow again later.

Debra, woohoo! A birthday surprise! How exciting! I do all the planning on this end, too, so I can imagine how much fun it would be to be surprised to everyone else!

Matt, you are amazing! :cool1: I also am thankful you are on our team! You keep me moving, Matt. Hard to feel like I've done a workout when I look at your training!

Stephanie, I only have the Donald on my calendar right now, too. I definitely need to add some as well. Glad you are feeling better and back to your workouts!

TXAng, congrats on the sleeping through the night! :cool1: Woohoo!

Martha, how are you holding up? We have the snow, sleet, and rain... no sign of frogs yet.

Panda, we have regular AP passes. DH LOVES Typhoon Lagoon (so much so that we never have made it to Blizzard Beach, but we somehow always have rain on our scheduled water park days, so it wasn't worth it for us. I think that we get $4 off of water park admissions with the AP.... We also have Disney Dining Experience, and I think we get the half-price PI admission for that.

Amy, does the part where the workouts are actually "fun" come eventually for everyone, or just a few? I never have fun. I am sometimes glad I did it, but I haven't felt like anything was "fun" yet. I'm hoping that "fun" shows up at the Donald....

Sunshine Girl, welcome!

Ran my first 9 miler yesterday! :woohoo:
Pace was slower than my 8 miler I did a couple weeks ago, though - 11:11 compared to 10:54. Still, I'm within my goal pace for my half. Fingers crossed...

I was originally gonna run it today, but DH was on call yesterday for some event and home so I decided to run with him instead and change around my schedule.

I felt OK and I did my first ice bath! :scared1: I took all the suggestions and ran the water while I was in it to get accumulated. DH then poured the ice slowly in and was laughing... I think he took some kind of pleasure in it all. :sad2:

I was in pain after my 8 miler before so I thought I'd give it a try. I think it might have helped a tad, knees still both a tad sore along with my right foot, but otherwise I feel pretty good. :thumbsup2 I was WIDE AWAKE last night for some reason, though...

Next week I have to run a 10 miler and my schedule is so crazy I seriously don't know how I'm gonna do it. I can't imagine training for a full.

Last night we went and saw Spirit of the Marathon. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Do I now feel inspired to run a full? No. :lmao: Matter of fact, in the middle of the movie I felt my stomach turn and questioned myself for even running a half. popcorn::

And can someone tell me why after that long run yesterday I get on the scale this morning and I'm a pound heavier? Running is not helping me with my weight.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Martha: Hopefully the boils, pestilence, and frogs will be a quickly passing storm so that you can get off the TM and onto the road! I was trying to think of the appropriate conversion for TM boredom --> road boredom. I'm not coming up with any numbers, though, that accurately convey the difference. Anyone?

Amy: Speed workouts = fun? Hmmm, I'll have to add that to my "must try before I die" list. :lmao: Good news about the hill repeats. Once spring really hits here, instead of this intermittent rain followed by sleet covered by snow, I'll have my choice of the Pgh. hills (and trail running, which I've never done! :woohoo:). Your training sounds great--it's helping you meet your goals & you're having a great time doing it!

Aloha Jeff: That's it. I'm moving to Hawaii. :goodvibes I'm so glad you're enjoying your runs, hot and humid as they may be. And thanks for sending what is apparently virtual sunshine our way!!

Liz: Happy birthday to your DH. I love opera & cartoons, so I can't think of a better combo! Here's hoping for a sunny Sunday for the Windy City!

Stacie: :woohoo: :cheer2: for the doctor's news about DH!

Sunshine Girl: Welcome to the boards. I'll be able to scream team for you at the Disney 1/2! :cheer2: I hope you get a chance to post every once in a while, as we'd love to get to know you before POP!

Craig: Duuuude! I'd love to be a surfer Dude. I have a friend who absolutely love it, says there's nothing like it even if you're a beginner (she is, too).

Carrie: The Mackinaw Bridge Run. Ah, I'd forgotten about that! It sounds like it'll be a great experience. I can't do it this Memorial Weekend, but I'll talk to my brother (a long-time runner) and maybe we can do a family get-together next year. Thanks for the reminder!

Ms. Duckie: Those pics of Robin are so cute. You have good taste in friends, and the fact Robin is a rescue dog is doubly good!

WWDave & Everyone who answered: Thanks for the question and responses on the APs. I haven't had a WDW AP in several years (had a DL one, though!) and we'll need to invest in two during the b-day trip. You're giving me lots of good info! :thumbsup2

Shan: Good job with the 9-miler and your pace. Even better, bolder job with the ice bath. Brrr....I have sympathy goosebumps just thinking about it. Can't answer your question about the scale, but I can say it happens to me, too. I tend to weigh less after rest days, oddly enough. I try to ignore the evil scale.

Kira: Have fun at the gym, not that it can top sledding!

As for me: Strength-training & XT for me today. Tomorrow I get up extra early (for me, on a Saturday) to go the gym to run and XT. Then off to catch the AMC theater's full day of the five films nominated for best picture. I predict I'll be sorer from sitting all day than from a LR. (Not that I've been doing a lot of those recently.)

Debra-

The rescue group we adopted Robin through has a fund-raiser calendar every year. I took those photos for that calendar--I hope it helps someone else find a best dog friend, too! She is a sweet girl--so well-behaved. She is always complemented on her lovely manners when she walks with me.

I hate to say it, but she's much more reliable at walking with me than dh is. She never stops for yogurt or a banana or to shop.... Maybe it's because there's a leash around her neck. I'm sure there's a lesson for me in this somewhere.... ;) :rotfl:

Oh no!!! Dh was right. he said if he had not alrady run a full, it would have scared him off. I was hoping he was wrong. Do not let it scare you!!!! After you finish your half, you will understand more. That I can do anythign feeling will be closer. (I still don'' feel like I can do anything, but I feel like I can take a challenge and break it down and make it work). COngrats on teh 9-miler adn surviving your first ice bath. :thumbsup2

I agree! I saw it last night too and left ready to go run the full 26.2. DD made fun of me cause I had tears in my eyes through the whole thing, but she stopped laughing when they crossed the finish line at the end and she had to wipe the tears from her eyes.

Judy, I have so much admiration for you. I don't know if I could do it alone. I am bringing dh along because that long walk alone would probably be too overwhelming. You are so strong!

My DH got up and walked me to the bus (which was a wonderful surprise), but that was the longest ride and walk to the staging area until I found other WISHers. I admire Judy and everyone who made that long trek alone - it's enough to make someone turn and run back for the safety of the room!

Sunshine Girl - :welcome:

Shan - Congratulations on 9 miles! :cool1:

Amy - Way to go on the workouts!

Stacie - Great news on DH!

DH surprised me at work this week by delivering a shadow box from the Half with the medal inside that he'd ordered marathon weekend without telling me! I was absolutely floored - laughed and cried at the same time - was having a really bad day at work anyway, so it was perfect timing.

Trying to decide now whether to run tomorrow or take a few more days off. The ankle feels pretty good, but every now and then I move wrong and it's really tender. The half that we're scheduled for is 2 weeks from tomorrow - do I take a really long taper or try to continue training?

:) good evening team

I hope you guys will continue to bear with me as I have not found ANY time to catch up individually (computer problems are not helping) Anyway I did rest Thursday after that awesome run Wednesday and then this morning i did the early morning thing again :scared1: but today I just went to Bodypump ( 6 am again -- :scared1:) didn't run.

So tonight I have 9 --- 11 to 13 years olds for DS bday sleepover. Yes I AM CRAZY!!! especially since DH is on duty at fire station. SERIOUSLY WHAT THE HECK!!!!!!!! WAS I THINKING????? There is a light at the end of the tunnel-- DH comes home at 8:30 am to take them paintballing and I go to the gym and then for a pedicure. Belated bday present for myself -- this was our week: Monday - our 13 year Wedding Anniversary. Tuesday -- I turned 34  Wednesday -- DS turned 12  So I guess we have been a little busy :confused3

OK so thank you guys so much for being here, all I have to do is show up.

BTW I don't know what's wrong with me but we saw Spirit of Marathon first time around and it made me sooooooo excited to train for my first full this year :dance3: I have always been a little off :lmao:

Going to Body Attack (aerobics ) in morning!!

Jackie, that is awesome about the shadow box! I would have been so thrilled!

Angie, did you survive the sleepover?

Last night we went and saw Spirit of the Marathon. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Do I now feel inspired to run a full? No. :lmao: Matter of fact, in the middle of the movie I felt my stomach turn and questioned myself for even running a half.

How strange. I was completely inspired. It got me very excited about my race next weekend.

I watched it with a bunch of friends, one of whom is very fast. When he saw all the cups on the ground at one of the water stations he commented that they must be at the last water stop. I laughed and said "Joel, Thats what EVERY water stop looks like for me!" Must be nice to be fast enough not to have to worrry about slipping on cups.

Have a good weekend all!

Cecilia - Ya, I know.
DH was inspired, though. He already is talking about doing the Mickey instead of the Donald in 2010. :lmao: And then here I was just having run 9 miles that morning and thinking it was so far and these people are running almost triple that.

I guess I still don't see myself as a runner. :confused3 And it is like nobody else around me does either. DH was on the phone after we ran our 9 miler together with one of his running buddies and I guess his friend was in disbelief I ran 9 miles that day. :headache:

So at what point will I ever feel like I'm really a runner? As much as I'm determined to do this half, I keep having self doubts. Is this normal? :confused3

Shan - don't give a hoot about what other people think!
YOU ARE A RUNNER!

Speaking of not giving a hoot - I am headed to yoga in a tank top! :scared1: :rotfl:
I only let my flabby arms out in really hot races. I try to keep them covered.
It's just easier to move with a tank top in yoga class, kwim?
I am always fooling around with my shirt, pulling it in this direction and that.
When I should be concentrating on the poses.

Shan - What Kristi said! Seriously, you are a runner. You just ran 9 miles - how many people do you know can say that? Anytime you're having doubts, just come here and we'll remind you that you ARE a runner. But I do understand - there have been many times that I had those same feelings, and had to be reminded by many people here that I am a runner. Even though last summer I'd done runs as long as 18 miles with my group, when it got close to time for the Donald this year I started questioning whether or not I could do it and had a complete meltdown on a 3 mile run with DH one night. But I did finish and was even happy with my time! (Yeah, I'm gonna try to better it in 2 weeks, but for a first attempt I was happy.) So just keep getting out there and putting in the miles, and January will happen.

Kristi - You go girl! Being comfortable trumps vanity any day, at least when working out.

I decided to sleep in this morning - took to heart something Deana Kastor said in the movie about getting lots of rest to help the healing process. It's been a long week at work even though we only worked 4 days, so I figured rest was more important than the 10 miles. I'd planned to get up and do the bike, but sleep won out over that too and I ended up with around 10 hours of sleep for the night! 10 miles, 10 hours, it's all the same, right? Now I've got to go sell some of those high-priced concessions at the hockey game.

In light of yet more freakin' snow in New England, I thought I'd post this - I thought it was funny, and very true!

Forget Rednecks...here is what Jeff Foxworthy has to say about New Englanders:

If your local Dairy Queen is closed from September through May, you live in New England

If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance and they don't work there, you live in New England

If you've worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you live in New England

If you've had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you live in New England

If "Vacation" means going anywhere south of New York City for the weekend, you live in New England :thumbsup2

If you measure distance in hours, you live in New England :thumbsup2

If you know several people who have hit a deer more than once, you live in New England

If you have switched from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day and back again, you live in New England :thumbsup2

If you can drive 75 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard without flinching, you live in New England :thumbsup2

If you carry jumpers in your car and your wife knows how to use them, you live in New England :thumbsup2

If you design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit, you live in New England :thumbsup2

If the speed limit on the highway is 55 mph -- you're going 80 and everybody is passing you, you live in New England :thumbsup2

If driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow, you live in New England

If you know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction, you live in New England

If you have more miles on your snow blower than your car, you live in New England

If you find 10 degrees "a little chilly", you live in New England

If there's a Dunkin Donuts on every corner, you live in New England :thumbsup2

On a training note, just home from 60 mins. fitness yoga.

Good afternoon everyone!

Sounds like most of us are having a good week! I did my 10K this morning. I think it would have been better if I were properly trained. LOL! But I did it and should get a qualifying time for the Peachtree 10K

Shan, they were handing out flyers for the ING. I did not take one!!! The 6.2 miles whipped me. I don't think I am near ready for 13. At least I have until January to get there.

I will be at the ING finish handing out water however!
Have a good weekend everyone!

:lmao: Kristi...WOW...YES...and I did live in New England for a bunch of years (CT). BUT with that said....those rules definitely apply to Northwestern NJ too. Pretty much to a T! Cute post...thanks!

Jackie...The shadow box...that is SO sweet...he's a keeper! :goodvibes

Angie....How did it go with those boys  . You're brave!!! Happy B'day for your boy...12 WOW! How exciting :).

Shan...GREAT JOB on your run. :thumbsup2 You're going to do an amazing job in the half!!!

Debra, Miss Ducky and Carrie: Yeah...the aliens have DEFINITELY taken over when I say a run is FUN LOL! Because running has never been the most fun or easy thing for me to do ;). However, I think that when I'm doing these special workouts it takes my mind away from the run and compartmentalizes it a bit. As for when does it get fun....:confused3 .....there are days when it is and many when it is not.

Deb...OMG...the full day of Oscar films sounds amazing!!!! Have a great time!!!

As for me...managed to get some training in yesterday...couldn't get my run in due to the heavy snow. I managed to do 30 on the bike trainer, 30 on the ski machine and 30 minutes of Pilates. So not too bad, but I really hate missing a run. I'm not sure what I'll do today, since I taught my class this morning, I'd like to do some additional cardio but really not looking forward to jumping on the trainer again. Anyway, tomorrow is my scheduled LR...but the roads are a MESS (sloppy and snow covered). Should be a fun one LOL!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Shan:congrats on running 9 miles! It's 9 miles more than I have ever run....and I completed a marathon! You are so definitely a runner!

Jackie: John and I saw Spirit of the Marathon at Brier Creek with Wendy. We all loved it! I thought it really captured the essence of marathon morning.....I got goose bumps when they got up so early and still had everything so close yet still ahead of them. You must have been at North Hills because we didn't spot you.
Congrats on the shadow box.....which company did you use? I ordered one at the Expo and thought it might have arrived today, but no luck.

Cecilia, OMG, I can so relate to the cup situation. I have NEVER been to a water station that hasn't been strewn with a billion discarded cups. In fact it was so bad during the Mickey that I actually had to slow down considerably to keep from slipping on one. For a back-of-the-packer, that's not a good thing.

If you measure distance in hours, you live in New England :thumbsup2

How true! I remember that from Danvers, MA (where I grew up) to the White Mountains was "two hours"--which seemed like forever to go for vacation.

If you design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit, you live in New England :thumbsup2
.
Which explains the rather weird halloween picture of me dressed as a scarecrow--except you mostly saw the winter coat!

Ah well, time to go have a coffee (DD, of course!)

Carol, I'll wear my WISH hat at the ING. Congrats on your run today! Peachtree here we come! :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone for the kind words! :goodvibes

Today I was trying to talk to my parents about the ING next month and they both kinda got a glazed look in their eyes. I'm so happy to have this place to come to.
