Looking through my desk drawer tonight, I found my collection of "keys to the world" cards from all my visits to WDW. So, I am wondering :scratchin what other things DVC'ers collect from their trips. (Things that you don't buy.)

Those cloth DVC tote bags! But not as many as some, I am sure!

Well, I would like to collect some of those expensive pictures/paintings. But I don't have that kind of money. So, I do, like you, collect the room key cards and also Fast Passes to the different rides. Haven't got all of them yet. Some are just too tempting to use instead of collect. :rotfl2:

I am an amusement park junkie and collect from many different parks. One of my treasured possessions is a "Welcome" sign that I won on the Disney Auction site (before they closed the site down). It hung at Space Mountain at Disneyland. It's cool because I fixed the lighting element and so now it lights up exactly like it did on the ride.

We also have a Disney Drawer. But it holds all sorts of vacation memorabilia. AP vouchers (WDW and USF) and MYW passes. We have all sorts of keys to the WDW resorts. It is fun to look back on them. And 4 cruise KTTW cards from DCL and Celebrity. And we collect different Disney prints (many are photos that we took). But I am in my 'purge' stage. My walls are bare and I am slowly putting things back after painting the interior.

PINS, PINS, PINS.........We used to have so much Disney but we sold & gave it all away. The only thing that continues are the pins. I just received 11 in the mail today from Mouse Gears.

Whoops.....Disney ornaments. One of our Christmas trees is mostly Disney.

I too must admit to having a drawer full of Disney key cards, map, old APs and a few special pins. Worst yet I've started buying pictures from the Amination store, I'm running out of wall space. Now what am I going to collect?

funatdisney
02-16-2008, 10:20 PM
I can certain;y understand ACDSNY's lack of wall space. I bought my first Disney framed poster at WDW in 1998 and I'm still collecting from both Disneyland and WDW. Luckily, we moved into a bigger house and there is plenty of wall space. Won't have to move for a while.
I also keep all the AP passes from Disneyland and the day passes from WDW.

If it has Mickey Mouse on it, I collect it! Oh brother...I need help.

The one thing I collect that is "free", are the paper coasters that are in the rooms when you check in. They are so cute and the last three years have been different. They have the DVC logo and an outline of a Mickey head on them. I think 2007 was red and 2006 was yellow but we stayed at POR in 2005 so those were black and white Mickey heads.

Also, we've collected the plastic cups that we got shakes in at MK. We looked for them in 2007 but I think Disney changed their cups to disposable plastic. The ones we were collecting were translucent cups with a silhouette of the castle and a Mickey balloon flying through the sky. I love these cups and would love to know if someone knows where I can get some more! They are the perfect size for my kids and regular resaurant kids' cups lids fit on them too!

I'm sure there is ALOT more but I'm just trying to think of the "free" stuff that most normal people would never think of.

As for "free" souvenirs, I collect park maps. I even laminated a set to use for map activities for my 2nd graders! :)

I'm a scrapbooker so I collect everything. In fact, on our trip last month, our first timer friends who went with us, started handing me their used straws, etc as a joke because they couldn't believe the stuff I was "collecting". I have plastic toothpics with logos, drink stirrers, coasters, napkins, business cards, all kinds of stuff. If it says Disney and it's free, it's coming home in the suitcase.

Apparently, Tote bags too!

But also, pins, DVDs, Christmas ornaments, and recently some paintings/prints. Oh, and inadvertantly we have a nice collection of refillable mugs.

My girls just started collecing charms for their charm necklaces, one per trip. It takes forever to choose the right one.

I have also started buying an ornament for each of them per trip. I want them to be reminded of all our Disney vacations when they are all grown up.

We do bring home popcorn buckets and stuff like that too. The 4 year old has been carrying her markers around in one lately.

It's a purchase, but I always get the new baseball cap specific to the resort.

I lost may favorite VB cap riding on the drachen fire coaster at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg :sad2: What a horrible death for a disney cap. I should have known better. I think about it almost every day. :sad1:

I used to collect alot of stuff..Ebay it off now for vacations :)
I scrapbook, so I guess I collect memories, and I also have everyone trained to save napkins, coasters, etc to jazz up the scrpbook.. Anyone know a good adhesive for sticking down the pressed pennies?

The only 'stuff' I still like is old Disneyland memoribilia.

We keep our room keys and I put them in the scrapbook. I should keep park maps but I usually end up tossing them out.

I keep the resort maps and scrapbook those. We also have a collection of the popcorn buckets. Quite a few, we donated a couple to a Disney gift basket for my kids school auction one year.

We also keep our tickets because they usually have different images on the front, we keep our wristbands from the parties we attend and they go in the scrapbook to.

As for things we buy and collect. I do the pins. Not every pin, but pins that are special to that trip, like the year, resort we stayed at, party pins and things of that nature.

Pins...I resisted until our honeymoon. Then I was hooked. :lmao: We try to keep it under control and only get the ones that are special for that trip ,but it's not easy when you could buy the whole display. Darn those Disney people!

Speaking of "illegal," and Heaven help me  if these Boards are policed by the Authorities... ::cop:

I have always collected "Do Not Disturb" door hangers. The ones from my DVC Home - BWV, are actually pretty generic. But we have one from every DVC resort we have stayed at and from other hotels as well. They all hang on the back of our guest room door, for any of our overnight guests' use or amusement.

I have lots of DVC cardboard coasters, and welcome Home folders.

I don't have much tolerance for collecting things, every so often I throw things out. Imagine how surprised I was when I found a "Honored Guest" button, cardboard which would use adhesive backing from our 1977 trip! This little thing has made it through numerous "trash days" and a move to PA and then a move to Ohio, and really I had no idea it existed. I've put it in a little bank treasure chest that we got on the '05 Members Cruise, one of the few items that I've kept from that great time.

I really like looking at pictures, those are my most valued treasures.

I framed out an area of my living room wall and place Disney license plates ( you know the ones you put on a car)

I get one with the year , my first is 1976 ! I also try for the resort I stay in and then other specific ones like parks and such.

The last couple of years its been getting tougher and tougher to get any plate except for the year plate !

Maps. I have a huge drawer full of them.

Pressed pennies. The family has 4 or 5 books full (not just from Disney though - everywhere we go - they're a great "cheap" souvenir.

Those various plastic things that get put into drinks or sandwiches (dolphins from Coral Reef, the old Epcot multi-circle logo, the MGM watertower, etc). Have a bundh from both WDW and DLR.

I like to get a christmas ordament each year and get the year painted on it.

Big Figs, are Big Figurines or statues. They are usually about 2' tall and are figures of characters or other items. Here is a pic of one of my favorite.

It wasn't intentional, but I seem to have a collection of Disney night shirts. I usually get one while I'm there, and people have been giving me presents of them for several years. My last one was "I don't do mornings" from the AKL gift shop - with a graphic of a leopard sleeping on a limb.

We also seemed to have amassed a number of Disney Christmas ornaments and mugs. And all the ticket/event/resort cards we bring back. And maps. Oh, and a bunch of Disney visors and golf hats. And Disney character golf headcovers. I even have a V&A menu from 1991. And two animations cells from waaay back when you got a "free gift" if you paid for your whole vacation with Amex.

I guess I have a big collection of "Disney Stuff"!

A car door off the tomorrowland transit ride
A stool from Mickeys living room in his house
A set of raceflags from the Indy speedway
A flag that hung inside its a small world
An actual Disney flag that flew over the railroad station at the entrance of the magic kingdom
A peice of the Matterhorn mountain taken from the ride rehab at Disneyland

Bragging, No. Just very proud of my collection.

Some stuff is burried in the garage. Other stuff hangs in my den next to pictures of the rides that the parts were taken off of. Where did I get the stuff? There are actualy 2 companies that claim the to "THE OFFICIAL TRASH COLLECTORS OF WALT DISNEY WORLD". One company has a monorail car in its driveway, I am not sure how much they are asking. When disney retires or refurbishes a ride, these companies remove the "left overs for free and make there money by selling these artfacts to collectors like myself. After the MGM name change there are loads of old CAST MEMBER costumes with the MGM logo for sale. You can even buy rolls of wallpaper from your favorite resort to armoires from the rooms. Both companies even sell whole ride cars. They range from $900 to $5000. One company has the original model of the BEACH AND YACHT CLUB for sale. It can be yours for a mere $15000.00 PM me if anyone wants the link to these two companies. By the way I am not affiliated with them in anyway, just a customer.

Welcome Kits
Park Maps (even the multi language ones)
Christmas Ornaments from each trip (parks and resorts)

For anyone who likes high-end Disney collectibles, Mouse Surplus has (or had) a 1/32 model of the Yacht & Beach Club on ebay for $49,999. That's a little too high-end for me. They also have lots of pins and other stuff. Like a seat from the old Alien ride. Cool, but I have no idea what I'd do with it.
