Hi everyone! I updated the list and tried to re-arrange it by date. It looks like AKV seems to be the popular resort this December.

I may try to move at least part of my trip at the 7 month mark. However, I am also hoping that Kidani opens in Nov or Dec to free up more space. No, I don't have any real facts on it opening this year, just some hope. :lovestruc

Update for you AKVers:
I was talking to my guide this afternoon and I asked her about sold out UYs. She mentioned that there are multiple sold out AKV UYs right now and she doesn't think that the next group of points will be out until this summer.

So, now you asking yourself, why is she posting this on this thread? Well, I am assuming that since Jambo house is all declared, then the next group of points must be from Kidani. If so, maybe there is a chance that it will open up in time for us this December? :banana:

Waitlisted for AKV ST Concierge - 12/6-12/14 (A girl can dream, right??)

We currently have booked AKV ST Sav View 12/6-12/14 (via day-by-day reserving back in Jan).

My wife and I joined DVC two weeks ago while onboard the Disney Magic. Well, we already were planning on an 11 night trip in Dec. 08 before we joined. After, we figured we could use our developer points for this trip. Well, since it's more than 8 months we could only book at our home resort, AKV.

I called MS after we got home and we could not reserve the same room for our whole stay, very annoying. I thought this was supposed to be a slow time of year there, it is "Value" season. Anyway, here is what we have and are waitlisting for:

11/27-12/2 we are confirmed into a Studio SV
12/2-12/4 we are confirmed into a Value Studio; waitlisted for Studio SV
12/4 there are no rooms, so we have a cash reservation at the rack rate and are waitlisted for Studio SV
12/5 -12/7 we are confirmed into a Studio SV
12/7 there are no rooms including cash so we have no reservation; waitlisted for Studio SV

Not too happy about our first booking experience thus far, although the CM was very nice and helpful. Can anyone tell me what is going on to make it so hard to get a room? Every told me not to worry about your home resort, but it appears to me it does matter so I am glad we went with AKV and not SSR.

First of all congratulations on joining DVC! :banana:

I have been a member for less than 1 year and I also own at AKV. In that year, I have booked:
OKW 2br, Oct 07, booked at 3-4 months
AKV Conceirge Studio, May 08, booked at about 9 months
AKV SV 1 BR, Nov 08, booked at 11 months
AKV SV studio, Dec 08, booked at 11 months

Of those the only 1 that I had a problem with was the December one. I have read that December is one of the toughest DVC times due to the low point cost plus Christmas decorations. That being said, based upon the replies to this thread so far, I would say that AKV is having the most problem with December. Once Kidani is finished, AKV will the the 3rd largest resort. So I am assuming that December will get easier in the future.

We have a 1BR SV at BWV for 2-5 Dec. We are wait listed for a studio SV at BWV for the same dates to save some points (but, the more I think about it, I am thinking about just keeping the 1BR).

Funny thing happened with another wait list we had going at BCV for an upcoming APR visit. We had been on the wait list since Nov for just one day (it was to be our last day). I kept checking my reservation on-line to see if our wait list came through and there was no change. I wanted to make airline ressies and I wasn't sure which dates to book so I called MS to check availability (I was thinking about staying elsewhere for the one day). Ironically, the wait list came through when I was on the phone with MS.

I did call yesterday to see how the wait-list was put in, day-by-day or the whole week at once. Just as I suspecteed, the CM put in for the whole week at one. I kindy asked the CM to change to a day-by-day waitlist....she did and while on the phone 2 of the nights popped up. So we now have a SV booked for the nights of Jan 1 & 2, still waitlisted for ANY 1BR the nights of Dec 28-31.

Well, the more this list grows the more discouraged I will be. We only book AKV because it's our home resort and it's all we can book at, but we would like to stay at BWV or BCV, please tell me that at the 7 month mark we will be able to get a room somewhere we want for the 11 nights??

I'm watching this list with great interest. I have passed ROFR on a Boardwalk contract and am awaiting closing. Because the current owners have an April trip planned we cannot close before April 20th.

I'm hoping to close and have my points in the system in time to book my first trip home before the 7 month window opens up. I am hoping for a studio any view for Dec. 7 - 11.

If there is no availability at my home resort I will try for BCV, VWL, AKV, SSR, OKW in that order. It looks like AKV may be the toughest one to book.

I personally have not....I'm still hopful the waitlist will come through for me. Not to mention, DH would not allow us to pay cash for a room at WDW after we've put all this money down on DVC.

I have had cash reservations as a back-up for waitlisted nights in the past. We have always gotten the waitlisted nights, so they must not pass you over just because you have a back-up reservation. -- Suzanne

I haven't yet. I plan (hope) to wait until the 7 month mark and if I can't book something then, I will either do a cash reservation at a DVC resort or maybe get 1 night in a moderate resort.

We did make cash reservations for the waitlist nights. They do not charge anything to your card and if a room comes off of the waitlist they can set it up to automatically cancel the cash room. I wanted to secure the cash discount in case I did have to pay cash for a night or two. I was able to book the front end and back end of my vacation with a wait list for Mon-Thur night. I know these are the hardest to get b/c of the cheaper points but I am hopeful that a couple come through.

You can check your point total to see if it decreases, or your reservation to see if the new days are added, that is what I do. Some people do call;)because we just can't help ourselves, and feel that the early bird gets the worm. Good luck! That is a great week to go!

Right. If I can call at 7 months and get a studio at VWL then I won't have to waitlist. With Dec. being so busy and VWL being so small and beautiful during the holiday season I assume I will have to waitlist. But I do have a ressie at SSR just in case.

Well, I just added another waitlist. I am going to convert my reservation from a studio to a 1 BR at AKV. So I added a waitlist for the last 1/2 of my trip (12/9-14). Actually the last 2 nights were available but I have way too many reservations and waitlists for the 10 nights and I wanted to simplify. So I waitlisted for the entire 5 days in a group. Then when I figure out how I want to simplify the first 5 days, I will change that waitlist also.

Well guys...I will miss you but you can remove me from the waitlist thread. I spent about 45 minutes on the phone with MS and booked a one bedroom instead of the studio at BCV and paid cash for the nights I could not get (2 nights) and I did not have enough points for them anyway. Dec 30 and 31st were the only two night that were not available between Dec 23-Jan 1st in case anyone is wondering about switching over at 7 months.

I feel much better now! I just felt our family would enjoy a one bedroom much more during the holidays (and celebrating our 10 year Anniversary)! I also wanted to quit worrying about the waitlist!

If I were you, I would want to be in Downtown Disney for those off-site days. You will still be able to access the EMH from one of the hotels there. If you aren't planning any park time during those days, then this wouldn't matter. I doubt that there would be AP rates for the 26,27th. That time of year is tough. We are hoping for a good rate on the 27th, our first day before we check in to VWL for the week.:)

Yay! My one bedroom savanna view came through for Dec 2 sometime while we were at WDW last week. I checked yesterday and it was there. Of course, my mom loved going with us last week so much that she wants to go with us in December when we take our other niece and nephew.

Now I am waitlisted for a 2 bedroom savanna view for 12/2. If I get it, great. If not, we can make due with the bedroom, the pullout bed and the sleeper chair for the 5 of us. Mom slept on the sleeper chair in the living room last week and LOVED it, she raved about how comfy it was.

So glad you are trying the Flying Fish. We are eating there twice in June, and did the same twice last June. It is my favorite on property. That's how we feel about SSR. We love staying there, but sometimes you want to go somewhere else. Next we'll try AKV then hopefully CRV

As far as the BCV and BWV, it will probably depend upon how far down the waitlist you are when you call and how many people with existing ressies want to move/and can move.

Well, I decided to add a day to my trip. So I called MS this afternoon and of course, there is nothing available at AKV for 12/3. So I added 12/3 to my waitlist for a 1 BR savanna view.

Also I checked on the 12/7 date that I am still waiting for and the CM told me that AKV is totally sold out for both 12/3 and 12/7.

I'm very new at this. I just received my points and this is my first attempt at a waitlist. I wasn't asked if I wanted to do day by day. Would I be better off doing day by day. I think if I remember correctly she had 1 preferred view studio on the 8th but that was the only studio for those dates. I waitlisted for all 3 categories.

As to which is better, it depends on your back-up plan and how many points you have, especially now that filling the waitlist is automatic. You are much more likely to have your waitlist fulfilled for at least some nights if you waitlist each day separately. For example, if you waitlist separately for a Wed night and someone cancels that one night, you will get that night rather than the person who went on the waitlist before you but wanted both Wed and Thur night together.

The problem with waitlisting for each night separately is that there may be one or more nights for which the waitlist never comes through. The toughest nights seem to be Sun and Thur.

So if you have enough points (without having to borrow), I would book the one available night, waitlist each remaining night separately AND also waitlist for all you nights as a single reservation. Depending on your success rate, you can cancel any extra nights as long as you do it more than 30 days in advance (and if needed, far enough out to allow you to bank the extra points into the next year). Because we fly, we usually have to make a final decision in time to book our air tickets, so we cancel any unfilled waitlists at least 4 months prior to arrival.

If you don't want to move mid-stay and don't have the points to hold more than 1 reservation, then I would not waitlist for each day seperately. Your most likely outcome for an early Dec waitlist not made close to 11 months in advance is that you will get some but not all nights. So if you can book the 8th today, you may be lucky enough to also get the 7th, 9th and 10th, but might still need to move to another resort for the 11th and 12th.

I would guess from this thread, however, that it is possible that a waitlist for the 7th may never come through. So if you need to arrive on the 7th, having the BWV on the 8th, 9th and 10th, but not on the 7th, 11th or 12th, would mean moving more than once.

As you can tell, there usually isn't a simple answer as to which is "better." It depends on many factors. Best of luck to you -- Suzanne

Hi Suzanne, Thanks so much for all of the great info and things to think about. After reading what you had to say and thinking about it I decided to cancel the backup reservation I had for Nov. 16th - Nov. 21 to free up the points for when I really want to go which is in December.

I've never been when the Christmas decorations are up and think this would make a wonderful first trip home. After talking to a wonderful CM at MS this morning I decided to keep all of my studio waitlists for Dec. 7th - Dec. 12th and in addition I booked a preferred view studio for Nov. 30th and Dec. 2nd and waitlisted the nights of Dec. 1st, 3rd and 4th. I have also wailtlisted the entire stay from Nov. 30th until Dec. 5th for both S and BW views. I let the CM know that I only wanted to go one of the weeks and would take whichever waitlist came through first.

I also asked him if he could check for availability at other resorts. He said the only studios available at this time were at OKW and SSR with a smattering of AKL dates during the week of Nov. 30th - Dec. 5th. Of course this could all change once the 7 month window opens.

I was really surprised to hear about the smattering of studios at AKL. He even had a concierge studio available the night of Dec. 5th if anybody out there who owns at AKL is interested. Of course that is a Friday night so it will take more points.

Well, I called MS at just a couple of minutes after 9 this morning and was able to get straight through. Well, the good news is that I was able to book a room for 12/3, the bad news is that I couldn't get BCV or BWV. I was able to BWV.

Also, in talking to the CM, the only resorts with 1 BRs available for 12/3 are SSR and OKW.

I fail to see how any of the dominoes are going to fall if there isn't anywhere for anybody to move to. I booked the nights of Nov. 30th and Dec. 2rd in a BWV PV studio shortly before the 7 month window opened up in hopes I would pick up the night of Dec. 1st when the dominoes started to fall but now I'm wondering if that's ever going to happen.

I went ahead and booked SSR for the night of Dec. 3rd this morning and am remaining on the waitlist for BWV. Tomorrow I will try and grab the night of Dec. 4th at SSR while remaining on the waitlist for that night also. I don't mind moving once but don't want to have to move more than once so I will have to make a decision about whether or not I want to give up the night of Dec. 2nd at the BWV and try and see if I can book Dec. 1st and 2nd at SSR and change my BWV waitilist to Dec. 1st - Dec. 4th. I think that if the days are there, Go for SSR on the 14th! I know that you really want to stay in the Boardwalk area, but if it were me, I would either stick with all SSR, or all BCV, all BWV or only one move. Moving mid-trip is a lot of hassle, but can be nice and something to look forward to. Moving more than once, in our experience, can just be exhausting, and wastes time and you can't really "settle in".
I really hope that you are able to get exactly what you want and have a wonderful time!

I need to start calling tomorrow to get on the waitlist for BCV. I have decided to keep our SSR ressie intact and make a seperate ressie on the waitlist. It is for 12/7-12/12, a 2bdrm and a studio. Is it possible to specify that we would take any room as long as we had 3 total (ie-3 studios)? Or should I just say 2bdrm and a studio and leave it at that?
Also, can I waitlist for each day and also the week as a whole or would it make a difference? As far as the domino effect, we just have to hope that people start canceling their plans, that would make them tumble!;)

Called bright and early this AM to change the first two days of my December trip -- the 4th (Thu) and the 5th (Fri) -- from a value one bedroom at AKV to a studio at either 1. VWL, 2. BWV, or 3. BCV. VWL didn't have anything available, BWV and BCV only had the Friday night. So I'm on the waitlist for all three resorts (any view at BWV).

We'll see what happens! A larger group of us are staying in a 2BR at AKV beginning the 6th, so I thought that staying someplace different with just my older kids (DH and DS1 are joining us later) the first two nights would be kind of fun. Fingers crossed! :goodvibes

When I got a not so nice CM as well when I called on the first day to do day by day. She said there was no point or benefit to calling day by day for a waitlist, because every time you added a day, you'd go back to the bottom of the list. So she told me just to call on the last day.

I called just before the 7 month window opened and discovered there was a BWV studio garden/pool view available for the nights of Nov. 30th and Dec. 2nd and decided to take them and waitlist for the nights of Dec. 1st, 3rd and 4th. NO studios at Saratoga on December 7th.

There are 1 bdrm's available for that week so I figure I'll book the 1bedroom so I have someplace to stay (141pts sun-sat) and then hope for my Animal Kingdom (home resort!) studio waitlist to come through.

Or for 110pts (plus $95 fee) I can book a disney collection moderate- Hmm, don't really need all the room that a 1bdrm has, plus someone would change my towels and make my bed everyday, hmm

I called this am to get on the waitlist for the first day of our day by day calling. I requested a 2bdrm and a studio for 12/7. We are actually staying 12/7-12. The only thing is that the very nice CM I spoke with said that once one of the requested units is filled from the waitlist, the other request would be canceled. :headache: WHAT! I told him we needed both units and couldn't he specify that. He said that no, once one was filled the other was removed.
I even made the request under two seperate names, although both using my points. Now I have to watch very carefully to see if anything comes through, because I will need to call back immediately and get back on the waitlist for the other unit.:mad: This is driving me crazy! Any suggestions?

Yay! :woohoo: Then decided yesterday that I need one more room (1-bedroom), and they only had 11/30-12/3 available, so I am waitlisted for the last two nights for that room. Same availability for a studio. They had one more night available in a 2-bedroom, but I really only need a 1-bedroom, so didn't spend the points to go that route. Sure hope my waitlist comes through.

OK, it's been a while since I updated, but today is the 7th month window for our check-out. I called MS right at 9AM and got a nice CM and explained that this is our first reservation as DVC members and I was hoping to finalize my trip with this call.

I orginally booked back in February to at least get our home resort (AKV). Well, the availability even then was not so much so we had to have partial reservations and waitlists and a cash reservation for the 4th and no reservation for the 7th.

Well, the last couple months (after a waitlist came through) looked like this:

11/27 thru 12/4 AKV Savanna View Studio
12/4 Cash reservation for a Standard View studio (waitlisted for above room)
12/5 thru 12/7 AKV Savanna View Studio
12/7 nothing (waitlisted for above room)

I told the CM that we really didn't want to move and if we had to we only wanted to move once. She looked into the system and had nothing for the whole time, but she could give us a studio at SSR for the 12/5 thru 12/7, but there was nothing available anywhere for 12/7.

I was not happy, but said that we would do it and I guess waitlist for the night of 12/7 at SSR. Then the real twist came for me as I told her, as instructed when I booked back in Feb., that I wanted to use my developer points since we have entered the 7th month window. She put me on hold for a while and then came back and told me that she would have to cancel my current reservation and book a new one with points and I could loose the room. I was not very happy and she understood, but her hands were tied.

I asked to speak to a supervisor and got another CM who told me the same thing. He heard me out as I had a lot to say about the dumbness of the whole thing and how their system is not very customer service friendly. I needed to use these points as I only had a year from February and we can't make any other trips by then. If I used it for the SSR portion of my trip it would only take 55 points of the 160, not good enough.

He put me on hold for a really long time and then came back with nothing really new to add and then I explained that I would use more points, but nothing was available. So he said he would look again at what they had (I've been on the phone 1 hour now) and all of a sudden they had a 1 bedroom at SSR resort from 11/30 thru 12/8. Well, I want to even out the two stays more so we looked at it day by day to add the points close to the 160 and finally settled at the following:

11/27 thru 12/2 - AKV savanna view studio
12/2 thru 12/8 - SSR 1 Bedroom

OP - please update the list.

I was not happy that I was forced to burn more points than I really wanted (it would have cost 176 points for a savanna studio at AKV for 11/27 thru 12/2 and then a studio at SSR from 12/2 thru 12/8; now I am using 254 points for the above scenario). They told me one thing and never fully explained the danger in booking a reservation with intention of using developer points outside of the 7month window. The original CM made it seem very easy to switch the points when we reached the 7 month window.

I must say for a first experince with the DVC, we have not been very pleased with our experience. I truly hope this turns around as it was quite an investment and it already seems more frustrating than the traditional way of booking.

Well our 1/1 2-bedroom just came through. Now we are still waitlisted for 12/29-1/1 but hope to find something when the 7 month window comes. We are hoping for Vero Beach but will take anything to stay in FL!:cool1:

I would like to have 5 nights at one resort but at least as of right now I only have to move once. I can live with that. AZDisneyDan - Did you call your guide? I know when we bought our points our guide told us that if we had any problems making our first reservation, he may be able to intervene and get us a cash room using our points. I haven't had to take him up on it, but it's worth a call.

amandelba - I am so glad that you brought this point up because we signed up to DVC while on a Disney Cruise back in February. Now, there is a long story there that left a very bad taste in our mouth about DVC and my wife chronicled it in her trip report in the cruise trip report thread, so I won't rehash it there. Bottom line: when our "guide" (first time I heard that term was on these boards) finished up his part with us and turned us over to the "quality assurance" person to sign the docs, he gave us no card or said anything about contacting him for anything in the future. So, I have no idea how to contact him and if he is even in fact our guide.

I started my day by dayreservation on Monday, May 5 (from my 1br at OKW :thumbsup2) My SSR reservations were made at the 11 month window for 12/4-12/14

Right now I have OKW Studio 12/4-12/6. Was told that OKW is sold out of studios for 12/7 & 12/8 and SSR is sold out of studios for 12/9. MS CM advised me to wait until May 14 to be put on the waitlist for my remaining dates. Because the waitlist is in the middle of the stay, they could not take off days in the middle. (or something that made a lot more sense yesterday than it does today).

Should I call and still get on the waitlist for 2 days and then start a new reservation at OKW for the remaining dates?

Well, I called today to see if a could move the first 1/2 of my trip to either BCV or BWV, plus get a villa for 12/7 on points. The only resort with a 1 BR available for all nights between 12/4-12/9 was SSR 1 BR. So I changed my AKV savanna view studio over to an SSR 1 BR. Plus I added waitlists for BCV and BWV. The CM asked if I wanted to change my 12/3 reservation over to SSR but I declined because no matter how the waitlist goes, I will get to try out BWV for at least 1 night. I still have an AKV reservation (savanna view studio) for 12/9-12/14. I won't call on that reservation until 5/14. So im summary, my reservations currently are:

We are currently waitlisted for a 1 BR Standard View at AKL for 12/2-12/5. We are booked in a 1BR at SSR, our home resort.

We were able to switch to AKL for 11/28-12/2 right at the 7 month window with no problem, so now we are hopeful this waitlist comes through. We are waitlisted day by day.

We also are waitlisted for Thanksgiving at AKL for a studio. Currently we are booked at POP.

Keeping our fingers and toes crossed as we have never had much luck in the past when waitlisting.

I waitlisted for BWV 1 bedroom preferred view on Dec 10th. When I called (at 9am) there was a BWV 1 bedroom boardwalk view available. The member services lady kept talking and talking. I interrupted and told her to just book the room. She tried and said, "I'm sorry. The room is gone now. That's how fast they go." Arg I wait listed the preferred view because I figure my chances will be better with preferred view vs. boardwalk view.

ARRRGH!!! I just called to change my dates around for next March and while I had MS on the phone, I decided to check my October and December waitlists. MS had the wrong date for December as being waitlisted for me! I need a 2 bedroom for the night of Dec 2 and they had me on a waitlist for Dec 3, the wrong night! It's fixed now but I'm fairly sure at this late date I'll be staying in my one bedroom at AKV and not in a two bedroom for that one night.

I got into SSR for the night at my 7 month window today so at least we have a place to stay if the wait list does not come through. I've had a change of heart. This morning I decided to book a 1 BR at OKW. Plenty of availability and we have never stayed there. I have a 1 BR at OKW for Dec 10-11 and I will call day by day until the 19th.

They did have a one bedroom available for AKV concierge for the night of Dec 11th. I got so excited I asked to book it but I quickly realized I would be switching rooms the next night.

I think I will still try to waitlist at BWV for the last four nights we stay.

I took myself off of the AKV waitlists for any view 1bdrm, stayed on for any view studio.

Just for the heck of it I asked if there were any studios available for Wednesday 12/10 and checking out Saturday 12/13. NOTHING!!! CM says "Oh I'm sure there will be studios at SSR.... oh, um, no there aren't sorry" That made me laugh :)

Well now that that's done all there is left to do is book airfare, buy park tickets, make dining reservations, which MVMCP we're going to, plan which parks to goto which days... yep the hard parts behind me :lmao:

So..I keep changing our reservations/waitlist.

I currently have AKV VV for Nov 30 - Dec 6 since my husband doesn't want to change resorts because our parents are coming with us, I called SSR to try and book our whole trip there. We were booked in there Dec 6 waitlisted for 7 & 8 and then reservations from the 9th to the 12th. We now are waitlisted at SSR for Dec 3,4,7 and 8th, with the rest of our nights booked in a2BR. Because we have the points I kept the original at AKV but will cancel it if SSR comes thru. I also kept our waitlist for AKV Savannah view for our whole trip. We are new members... bear with us!

One reason to call back for availability woudl be if you are on the WL for multiple days but would be happy with individual days at either end of your WL.

For example, one poster has OKW for 4 nights, then SSR for 3 nights and then OKW for another 3 nights. If that person was on the WL for 3 nights at OKW, they would probably still be happy if they got either the 1st night or the last last at OKW, because it adds a night to an exisitng stay at OKW. So calling for availability of a single night might yield results.

Calling will probably not yield results if you need just what you waitlisted for and nothing else will help.

Lower points and decorations has been one of the biggest draws, but even with that I've been able to book this time frame much later. Just seems busier than usual to me.
