Hello everyone!

So I've been lurking around for a while, wondering if anyone else was going to be heading out on the May 22, 2008 Wonder Cruise to the Bahamas.

Thought I'd put together this meet thread to see who else would be there.

It will be the first leg of our Disney Honeymoon!

We have an ocean view cabin for our first Disney cruise!

Hope to hear from some fellow cruisers soon!

Cheers,
Josh

I also was wondering if anyone else was cruising on this date. Was just getting ready to post a thread and saw that you had already done so.

My group consists of myself, DH, DD (21), DD (18) and DS (21). We are going on this short cruise for my daughters graduation. DH and myself have cruised before.....both of us were on the 11 nt Southern in 2006 and then I went with friends on the 14 nt WB TransAtlantic Repo last August. We are hoping that we can adjust to this "short" cruise!! :rotfl:

We are in a cat. 4 on deck 8. I have always done fish-extenders and my daughter was hoping we could do the same on this cruise, but there may not be enough DISers going to participate. Cant wait for them to experience their 1st Disney cruise!!

Hopefully others will be cruising with us! Cant wait to meet you and your new wife!! :bride:

Today I was cruising the internet and came along this great forum. Hello everybody, we (Swiss family, me 42, my husband 41 and our daughter 4) will be going on this disney cruise - we are firsttimers and we are soooooooo looking forward to all the fun.

We will be travelling around in Florida the entire month of May and I am sure we will have the time of our lives.

Regards from icecold Switzerland, tomorrow we go skiing, what a difference to our planned holiday in Florida

Hello fellow cruisers,

I've been reading and gathering information for our first Disney cruise, and just decided to register and post up.

I'm going to do my best on getting the abbreviations right (I've got the list up as reference).

So, here goes...

Cruising on this trip from my crew is myself (27) , DW23, my sisters 10 and 19, my father and step-mother.

Alright so I couldn't find abbreviations for most of that but I hope I still did good on my first DIS post.

Cheers!

Hopefully there will be others to join us as time gets closer.

My DW and I will be in Florida for a few days around this sail date. We are trying to decide if we want to go on this cruise. Our flight was already scheduled to arrive on Wednesday 5/21 and we are due to fly home at 12:45pm on Sunday 5/25. If we decide to join you, I'll let you know. Decisions, decisions, decisions...........:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Our DD is going with her school choir/band to Chicago from 5/21-5/25 so the Mrs. and I decided to escape to Florida for a few days. We do have a vacation home about 90 minutes from the port area, we're just trying to decide if we want to spend a few days at our Lake County home, or take the 3 day cruise. It's been a long winter for me, I just want to get away for a few days to rest before our busy summer starts.

Just trying to iron out some details but we may be joining you, too, along with eight family members from PA. (Kaykels and crew)
Our family just moved here to Central Florida six months ago and it's about time we officially take advantage of the FL Resident Rates!!!
It's been 18 long months between cruises... way too long.

:welcome: Tiggerzfan......Here's hoping that things work out so that you and your family can join us. Only 8 weeks until we sail! Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Is anyone else taking a fish extender? This is my kids 1st cruise and they want to take a fish extender. I guess I can always sneak in some lil surprises when they are not looking if all else fails!! :lmao:

HEY VERANDAH MAN! You have to come along with us! You sent me the pay-it-forward postcard from Mickey to my kids about 4 years ago. I'm in the same situation as you. I have airfare to Florida May 21-26. I was planning on visiting the TiggerzFan gang, and then we saw this great Florida Resident rate pop up. I'm supposed to be at a convention near Universal, but the cruise sounds like MUCH more fun! We have a hold on some cabins and we'll be booked by tomorrow for sure. Just figuring out cabin logistics.

Still haven't made a final decision, just yesterday our DD asked if we were going to Florida during the summer. My DW and I are still trying to decide what we want to do.

Well, it's official! Our extended family of 12 is onboard and while we're sure not in our first (or second, or third) pick of stateroom category or location, we were able to take advantage of those nice FL resident rates!:thumbsup2
This is a nice last minute surprise and leaves DSIL (Kaykels) and I just a short period of time to obsessively plan and pack.
So here's a shout out to all of our new cruising friends from Deck 1!! party:

Disney Sweetie
03-26-2008, 09:52 AM
 We need to plan some kind of small DIS meet once we get onboard. Maybe at the sailaway party?? party: I would love to meet everyone before we all get to busy. Let me know what you all think.

I know what you mean about the packing.....I have been so pre-occupied with all my daughters SR activities, getting ready for prom and graduation, that I have not really thought about what we need to be packing.

8 weeks from today and we will be on our way to Orlando!

Can't wait to meet you all!!:wave2:

So luckily we got the FRR when we did. We called, got rates for cat 9 and better, and an hour later they only had cat. 10's left. So we're slumming it on deck 1 inside cabins with the fish and the crew! But as long as I'm ON the ship, who's complaining! The broom closet would even work for the right price. And when we called back a few hours later to make the payment, the FRR's were sold out.
I hope you snagged on Verandah Man.

Cruise meet at the cast off party sounds good to me! How about the bar overlooking the party on deck 10?

Just an FYI to those of you that may be sticking around in FL after our cruise. The Discovery is scheduled to launch from Kennedy Space Center on that Sunday evening around 7:30pm - always a cool sight!

Just this evening The Endeavor came back home. We were lucky enough to get a distant glimpse of it from outside our house as well as hearing the very loud sonic boom.:listen:

Disney Sweetie
03-27-2008, 01:17 PM
I have always wanted to see a space shuttle launch. We have plans to visit friends near Ocala that Sunday after we get off the ship. Can we see it in the air from there? May just have to wait and see our friends later! Being from MS, I can always go back and see them but may not get a chance to see a launch any time soon. Does that sound mean?

Meeting on deck 10 sounds good. Lets say we can meet right after the safety drill??

BPCooper
03-27-2008, 11:25 PM
The launch is going to be delayed a few days past the 25th, NASA announced after the landing last night. May 31 is looking like the probable new "no earlier than" date.

kaykels
03-28-2008, 12:30 PM

TiggerzFan
03-29-2008, 09:03 AM
Thanks for the update, Ben. I was afraid that date would change. Would've been nice for everyone to see a launch.

Rachel (DSIL), I'll be right next to ya with the Mickey Bars! Perhaps we can see the glow of Tickerbell instead of the shuttle.:)

I'm not used to 3 night cruises. We're only on page 2 and we're in the 2 month countdown. The whackos on my last 7 night, 18 months ago, are still chatting. I think they must be on page 8 zillion by now.

TiggerzFan
03-31-2008, 08:39 PM
So, when is everyone doing Palo?

We're a bit confused because we've never done a 3-night cruise and don't really want to miss any of the restaurants. We're leaning towards Parrot Cay simply because we'll have lunch there when we board.

Any thoughts?

We have 5 adults in our group....the youngest is 18 and graduates on May 16 so this is her graduation cruise! Of course my birthday is May 10 so I may decide to make it a "late" gift to myself! :rotfl:

You fill up my Fish Extender, and I'll fill up yours!!! LOL!!!:lmao:

The launch is going to be delayed a few days past the 25th, NASA announced after the landing last night. May 31 is looking like the probable new "no earlier than" date.

I talked to a friend of mine that works at NASA and he said that there is a delay in manufacturing some parts but that it may only affect later launches. So we might still get to see the shuttle take off. :thumbsup2

Are we still going to meet around 4:30pm on deck 10 during the sail-away party? I guess it will be opposite of the big-screen?

Aunt Donna are you going to lick the chocolate souffle bowl again? I'll be licking the bowl after my ice cream sundae at Parrot Cay.
Here is my list of MUST DO's. What are yours? (everybody)

1. See the new Toy Story show
2. Eat lots of cheeseburgers
3. Order more than one dessert everynight (I'm insulin resistant and taking a few days off of my torture diet)
4. Karaoke
5. Get to Castaway Cay early and stay late
6. Remember NOT to wear the sunblock that I'm allergic to and most of all....
7. KEEP MY BATHING SUIT BOTTOMS ON WHEN I'M SNORKELING! Flashing the entire boat in Mexico was the most embarrassing day of my life.
:rolleyes1

For the most part, our family has some pirate-type accessories (vests, t-shirts) from past cruises, so we'll probably bring those, but nothing too crazy.

Disney Sweetie

Personal food favorites for me are:

1) Chocolate Souffle ! There's nothing like it.:cloud9:

2) Filet at Palo.

3) The white chocolate Cinderella slipper dessert with the mousse. FABULOUS.

4) Yep, gotta go with the Burgers on Deck 9. Chicken Fingers, too.

5) ROOM SERVICE - Ya gotta do it. No charge, except for the tip. All Hands on Deck fruit and cheese platter, Cookie of the day and MICKEY BARS.:mickeybar

6) The fresh fruit and wraps on Deck 9, too.

I may have this in reverse, but I'm pretty sure the mango soup is in Parrot Cay at lunch on embarkation day and the strawberry was at one of the dinners (in Tritons/Lumiere's?). Someone correct me (no doubt Kaykels will!)...
but whenever they appear, it's heaven in a bowl.:goodvibes

A warm hello back to everyone, we are just back from our ski holidays in St. Moritz, we had a great time, my little girl won her first race in ski school and is wearing her medall day and night. And the best is, only 4 weeks to go before we fly to Florida for our extended 1-month-holiday. First to Captiva, then Sarasota, then Disney Polynesian and then the Cruise.... to finish we go to Disney Vero beach.

I am really looking forward to see you all and I promise to bring some yummy swiss chocolate for the Sail away get-toghether.

You should see me when I read your postings, first its in english, but then its in Disneyish... I am no DISer and sometimes I really have no clue what you are writting, but hey, I am catching up, and this is my first time on a cruise, let's see in 10 years time....

Hey, TigerzFan, thanks for the tip re Discovery Launch, you just made my husband very lucky, we try to get viewing tickets at the space center, selling beginns this coming Monday.

To you as experienced Cruise mom, I am wondering if my 4 year old girl will be happy at the kids club, she does not speak english at all, but she is a very outgoing and brave girl, therefore I think it could work, what do you and the other moms think?

TiggerzFan
04-05-2008, 11:30 AM
Swissgirl -

MMmmmmmm, swiss chocolate. I can taste it already!!

Wow, it sounds like you're in for a FABULOUS one month visit here to Florida. I've never been to Captiva but I hear it's gorgeous.

As for your little girl, I have no doubt she'll love the kids' clubs. On our last cruise, our older daughter was 4 and she would ask to go frequently. On her registration, I would definitely make note of the language issue. It could very well be that there is a CM (cast member) who speaks the language ... maybe even worth requesting for dining, too. You never know, those Disney folks have pulled many tricks out of their ears! Besides that, I'm sure she'll learn some of the basic words that will be useful.
It would be an interesting question to post to the main board. I'm sure there are many other moms who have been in that situation.

Hmmmm, I think you'll have to teach us all a few basic words and phrases! We have 7,6, 5 and 2 year olds in our group and we can teach them.

We'll probably wear pirate stuff on pirate night, but not a full costume. It's always a good time. Too bad we'll be so full from dinner. It's a nice spread but we're always to full to eat it!

Swiss girl, I'm sure your daughter will have fun in the clubs with the dress up trunk, sliding board, characters, etc. She might be lost during the Disney movies or have to take an extra minute or two to catch on the games they are playing, but I know she will love it.

Can't wait! This is cruise #5 for us but our first 3 nighter so we're trying to figure out how to cram all the fun in really really fast!

Josh, here are some of my favorites!

1. Sail away party is a great starter
2. Make sure you try the cold mango soup or cold strawberry soup at embarkation lunch. YUH-HUM!
3. The shows are awesome! Don't miss them.
4. *If it were my first cruise, on a 3 nighter I would not miss a regular rotation dinner, so if you choose not to do Palo, at least go up there, sit at the bar and have a chocolate souffle. If you the tip the bartender, they won't charge you a cover for dessert. Palo is GREAT!!!! If you go, have them roll you out when you're done eating.
5. Nassua day is going to be a busy one! It's Pirate night and also the Golden Mickey show. Make sure you do both, it's A LOT of fun. And save room for the pirate snacks on deck.
6. When in Nassau, Cable Beach is a great alternative to Atlantis. It's 15.00 pp and you can use the hotel's ammenities. They have a swim up bar, water slide, casino, great beach with lounger and tiki umbrellas, and water sports are available.
7. Not so Newlywed Game (adults only!)
8. The adult comedians are great.
9. Castaway Cay is worth the entire price of the cruise, IMHO. Snorkeling is a must for us! Best beach ever! Get out there early and grab a hammock.
10. For the kids: making FLUBBER in the kids clubs
11. SShh, don't tell anyone... but if you take a late night swim, it's empty up there on deck and so amazing under the stars!

What an awesome place to honeymoon.
My daugher is 14 and is already planning to actually get married on Disney cruise ship. In fact, she already informed us that the guy has to be like you.... a true lover of Disney Magic, no matter how young or old or how many trips under your belt. Keep that magic in your heart and you'll have a long happy marriage.
Good luck and most of alll, HAVE FUN!

Josh and other first time cruisers....

Here's another moment you'll not want to miss...

When you first board, the CM will ask for your last name and then they "announce" your family's arrival onboard. It's a favorite moment of mine, I'm getting goose bumps just thinking about it as I type this. It's when you really know the "Magic" and "Wonder" of it has officially begun.

Also, for everyone, don't forget you can have all (or at least most) of the characters autograph a photo mat (for framing), or a t-shirt, or a pillowcase, etc. just by dropping it off at Guest Services. Put the item in a ziploc bag, with your stateroom number - you can supply your own color fabric markers, too - at the beginning of the cruise and they'll send it up to your room by the last night. Makes a really nice (FREE) souvenier.:)

Looking forward to see you all and I told my husband that we will have to bring a add suitcase, just for the chocolate to all of you. He is a chocolate addict himself and he was not sure, if the goodies will be safe during our 3 weeks trip through florida, the might just disapear :scared1: .

You make my day, everytime I log in and see, that I am not the only one going crazy just by thinking how awesome it will be to experrience the wonders of magic.

Have a great week :yay:

Hey TigerzFan

My Husband logged at sharp 9:00am into the Cape Canaveral Tickets Portal but could not finish his order for tkts and flew out of the system within a minute, when he tried to enter again, the tickets were sold out. Bad luck, but we received information from were the take-off could be seen to.

Thanks anyway and icecold regards, today we had snow again.

Our little group has grown to approx. 25 adults (18 and over) and 13 children!
We plan on meeting at 4:30 on deck 10 directly across from the big screen tv. Unless you would prefer to meet Starboard or Port side?? How will we recognize each other? To bad it is not a much larger group and we could order lanyards or tshirts or some other way to identify each other! Any ideas??

I of course will be the one dancing around cause I will be so happy to be onboard!! My kids will be the ones looking at me like "who is she??" :rotfl:

My family is on this cruise too. My DH and I are having a hard time keeping this a secret from our DD11 and DS6. They have suspicions, but I keep telling them we aren't going. I'm about to explode. This is a good outlet for me.

I've been trying to do tons of research. I have a question for you experienced Disney Cruisers, what time can we board the ship? We are staying at Disney World for 2 nights before and will be driving over that day as soon as we can get on the ship.

Suzy, I pulled that one off once and it was SOOO much fun. My 11 year old doesn't know we're going. We told her, but it didn't sink in. She thinks we mean in 2011 on the new ship. She's a little slow on the giddy-up sometimes. I'm sure she'll figure it out when we're boarding. hee hee.

We'll have to figure out a way to ID ourselves, but I don't think it will be with tiaras and green feather boas! On our last cruise there was a crazy, insane bunch of Dis-ers that actually showed up at the port with the feather boas and tiaras. That was one weird crew. It was similar to a clown convention. Seems like we're cruising with a great bunch this time around. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. I'll be the one with the margarita in one hand the Mickey bar in the other.

WELCOME, SUZI! My, this little group is growing by leaps and bounds!

Hey, I'm in on the "secret" thing, too. My DD6 has no idea we're going. We keep talking about "maybe soon we'll go again". If we don't slip before then, when our family (Kaykels and crew) arrives the night before, THEN we'll tell her. She is going to FREAK OUT!:jumping1:

Hey Rachel, maybe we'll tell Kelsi and Alyssa at the same time!! LOL!:rotfl:

In the meantime, boarding usually starts around 12noon but the Port opens at 10am. Many like to get there early to take advantage of the characters that may appear, registration for the kids' clubs, etc. And, of course, there's the line for boarding.

Suzy....I am trying to figure out how to post a picture of my fish extender from the WB TransAtlantic cruise last August. I will have one on this cruise. You just hang it outside your door on the "fish" and others on the cruise can put little goodies in it. Goodies I have received are candy, pirate trinkets, magnets, postcards from the givers hometown, etc.... Nothing big, just little happies. You just go around whenever you want to and put the gifts in the fish extenders. I think there may be a couple others on our cruise doing this. My kids want to have it (it is there first cruise).

As soon as I can figure it out, I will post a picture.

This is a picture of my fish extender from the WB TransAtlantic cruise. I decorated it to go with the TransAtlantic theme. I was cruising with my friend Laura from Los Angeles so I put our picture on it. The Barcelona or Bust part was a last minute idea and was so true. I missed my connecting flight in NYC to Barcelona and had to spend the night in NYC scared and alone. But thanks to my DIS friends that were already in Barcelona, they got me on another flight the next day and I made it just in time to sail!!

Do you think we should get a list of everyones cabins so we can deliver our goodies to them? or should we just wander the hallways looking for the fish extenders? Even if some do not have a fish extender we can put our goodie by their fish or hang it on the door or something! Good thing about this is that you are not required to have a fish extender to get a goodie.

Let me get this straight... I still have to:
1. Make Disney magnets to decorate my door
2. Make fish extenders
3. Gather some goodies
4. Find my pirate clothes

and while onboard I have to remember to get Rum cake in Nassau and finally get a picture with Jack Sparrow. I missed him by minutes everytime last cruise.

I think it would be great to meet everyone. I would like to get in on the fish extenders if I have the time to make one. My son would be really excited to find a treat in it!
We will be staying at AKL the night before the cruise; I think someone else posted they will be there as well(?). For any of those first time cruisers, remember to put your swim suit in your carry-on so you can get into cruising mode as soon as you board.

I don't know, but I wondered if it was one per person in your family. I also saw one on ebay that had one pocket for mom and dad and then one for each child (2 on that one). I was thinking of making one with 3 or 4. I did see one that only had one pocket, it was more like a tote back with a mickey head on it.

No, not laying by the pool, but I could be. It's mid-80s, sunny skies and the pool is up to 90 degrees!:cool1:

Hey Swiss Girl, I bet the skiing really stinks in the south !!!
At least we have THAT!
We had a touch of spring yesterday and today. It won't last, but I'm enjoying the 70's while it lasts. It'll be back to the 50's by Sunday. Ho hum!

Hey Kaykels, thanks for the support, I can only dream from temperatures in the 70th, we are still in the 50th, last week it was around 32 and no spring in view, my magnolias in the garden didn't make it, they turned brown before they fully opened, because of the snow.

Exact that day one year ago we were celebrating summer in spring with temperatures in the low 90th. The week after we came home from Easter skiing, the kidds were running around naked in the garden and having the time of their lives.

Any luck with the change of your rooms? Is the ship fully booked?

Best regards Andrea

Andrea, think of it this way, at least you'll enjoy and appreciate the warm Florida sunshine most of all !!! I know our taste of spring won't last. April around here can bring snow jackets or shorts. And that can be in a one week stretch!
It maybe cold, but you have the best chocolate in the world and that trumps everything, right?

Nahh, we're still stuck in the basement for now, but still trying to claw my way up.

Suzy here's an update on us.
The rest of my party consist of:

Rachel, Bill, Pop, Kaylee (DD), Kelsi-Jo (DD), and Colby (DS)

also, my brother is joining us
Dan and his (DD) Katelyn. His cabin is 5122,

but he's still on shock when I told him about the matching Disney outfits we're wearing to dinner and a show. He thinks only blind people should wear such an ugly shirt. Then I broke it to him that Donna and I are making tee shirts for embarkation. I think if I tell him he has to get a fish extender it just might throw him over the edge. But hey, as long as it amuses us, right?????????

The Virginia weekend is with my best buddy and my hubby is probably tagging along too, only because he has something he has to do in the area. I hope it's warm!!! It probably won't be beach weather, but I'll be happy with 70's.
I"m getting spring fever in a big way. I work at a baseball stadium in New Jersey (minor league team for the NY Yankees) and the home opener was two nights ago. Although, Philly fans don't like the Yankees, but liking the team is not a job requirement. Anyway, it's been in the 70's and I'm loving it! I'm off to work in a few minutes and I'm going to enjoy the sunshine while it lasts!!!!
Pam, no wonder you landed in the south! I don't blame you. I'm sure you had enough of the cold. The summer's may be rough, but as Donna points out twice a week for the past year, from November to June, you can't beat it ! That's why I'll be in Florida for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Make room Donna, I'm coming.

I just ordered our Fish Extender on EBay. The lady that I ordered mine from had two others that looked very nice. I will bring along the zip ties as suggested to keep the fish extender anchored. What do you use the cut the plastic tie at the end of the cruise? Can you take scissors onboard in checked luggage?

Does anyone know if there are lockers on Cataway Cay? I want to take our video and still camera for photos, but don't want to go all the way back to the ship whenever we get in the water. Maybe I'm paranoid, I would want to believe that everyone there would be honest and not "pick up" something that didn't belong to them... But I'm not willing to risk a couple thousand in camera equipment on that trust. :rolleyes1 Not to mention all of the lost photos. :scared1:

There was another Disboarder from our last cruise that had her camera bag stolen at the end of the cruise in Barcelona on the way to the airport. All of her pictures from the past 11 days were lost. That was worse than losing the camera itself. :guilty:

Needless to say, we've never been to Castaway Cay before.

:welcome: to our growing group!!

If you check the link in my signature line, you can see a list of everyone that is on the cruise with names, ages and cabin numbers. At this point I am not sure exactly who all is participating in the fish extender game. We have between 50 and 60 people listed right now. Maybe Suzy has a better count on the fish extenders. I will be bringing enough gifts for everyone listed and get it to them somehow. If it is small enough to put in a ziploc baggie, you can always put it in that and then attach it to the fish by the door.

Most companies require a minimum order of 100 lanyards so we dont have quite that many people right now. Not sure on the shipping time. Maybe we could make some buttons.....I think that was mentioned earlier. Those would not be to hard to make and we could collect the money at the party. Should be fairly inexpensive to make. If anyone is interested in that idea just let me know and we can get some ideas going on a design....not much time left to do this so we need to hurry!!

Hey Rachel.....I wish you would have kept this cool weather! It was in the 60's today and will be mid 50's tomorrow...:scared1:

Epcot_Va....I always bring a small pair of scissors in my checked luggage to cut the fish extender off at the end of the cruise. I am not sure about the lockers on Castaway Cay.

We are booked for the parasailing at Castaway Cay. About three years ago we did the parasailing at WDW. Although they gave many many warnings that if you took your camera up, it was at your own risk, I did take my video camera up. It was great! :yay: Of course, in WDW you launched from the back of the boat and were recovered the same way. My camera and I stayed dry the whole time. I'm hoping that things are the same at Castaway Cay. I would love to get "aerial footage" of the ship and the island.

We haven't parasailed there. We did swim with the Stingrays last time. That was really neat, especially with the kids. Hmmm, my tips. We never rent tubes etc. By mid day they are scattered all over the place abandoned! It's really nice and clean and quiet. This time we are doing the cabana massage and will find the adult beach. We have not yet left the family beach! Snorkeling is OK. Nothing great. It's just a great end to a trip that you just lay out and relax! They will sell coolers of water and drinks on the beach. We love Castaway Cay!

Castaway Cay is probably my favorite port of any we've been to. We were lucky enough to be on a "double dip" cruise and it was heaven!! I don't have much advice for activities there, our group hasn't ventured far from the Family Beach. We always have a blast there and thankfully haven't had any theft problems. Let's just hope we don't hit any freak currents or bad weather causing us not to be able to go there!!!

princess: Just wanted to share that we were able to capture a little Disney Magic today as we went over to EPCOT to catch the Flower and Garden show. Unfortunately shortly after we got there some intermittent showers started making it just wet enough to make getting around with 2 strollers a bit challenging. So, we didn't get to spend as much time as we would have liked, but what we saw was beautiful. The gardens were gorgeous and the plants/shrubs that they made into giagantic characters were awesome!

And I second Pam - THANKS A BUNCH, Rachel, for this weather. :sad2: It's almost like being back in New England. Saturday was low 90s and sunny (see, I was good and never mentioned it!) and today mid 60s and rainy. Then by Thursday we're back in the 80s. Crazy.

Coffeeguy here is the post about the buttons. I think this is a great, inexpensive, last minute way to identify each other. On the 11 night Southern they passed out our lanyards prior to boarding in the lobby. We met by the big window next to the Mickey Ears. We colud collect money and pass them out before the cruise if you wanted to do it that way.

I'll pack the scissors then. :thumbsup2

We are booked on the 9am parasailing. My DH and I did this for the first time on our last cruise and absolutely loved it. I didnt think about taking my video camera....I just took a disposable camera so if I dropped it I was not out hundreds of dollars!!! They did "dip" our feet into the water before landing us back on the boat but nothing to hurt a camera as long as you hold on to it. Take off and landing was really smooth. Other than that I have not done anything else except enjoy the beautiful island.

Pam received MY fishextender and said it was cute.... hoooo can't wait to see it myself and to hush around in the middle of the night to find and fill yours. My husband thinks I am really overdoing and over the edge with all I am planning just for that 3-day portion of our long vacation. But for me, that planning part and enjoying the time before is just as much fun and doing it then actually. Great having you "nuts" around me.

See you all soon

Absolutely, the planning is half the fun! Especially with all the other DIS nuts to surround yourself with!!:thumbsup2 As for the plane ride, bring a DVD player - with Disney movies, of course! 10 hours is going to be rough no matter what you bring.

I'm not missing, just working. It is actually supposed to be above 60 today, but wind up to 35mph. Gotta love that Nebraska weather.

I agree about the planning. It is half the fun. My husband thinks I'm crazy and actually told my parents I was internet dating, because of my activity on this board. He thinks he's so funny. Thinks key word in that!

My fish extender is almost done. Kids asked what it was and I told them it was a mail/paper sorter for the family. Keeping this a secret is hard work!

Dear fellow cruisers

How does it work with the table seating in the various restaurants. Is it correct that we will always be sitting with the same people at the table and how many people will be sitting at the table with us if we are a group of 3. How do the match groups? Any experience you would like to share?

Pam, thanks again for everything you have done for me with the FE, so curious how it looks, and thanks aswell for all the organisation planning you do for our humble group. And re age, I am a very late mom, so you might even be younger than me, and yes, we are all young at heart, would we otherwise be doing a disney cruise, no way....

Yes you will have the same table mates and servers every night. I know there are tables for 4 and up to 10 or 12 I think. You can ask to be linked with another family if you know you want to sit with someone. Your travel agent or DCL can do that for you. You do need the other families res. # so they can link them.

As far as the age......well I will be turning 44 on May 10!!!

I am enjoying all the planning, but please dont let me take anything away from anyone else that wants to step in. I dont want to seem like a bossy person! Cause really I am shy and quiet.

Good Morning, everyone!

We're finally heading back into the 70s here in Florida, 80s by the end of the week. That was a crazy little cold spell we had. I'll do my best to make sure that doesn't happen when you're all here in May!

Any news from Coffeeguy about buttons? I haven't ordered my FE yet, but have been in touch with a DIS/Ebay seller that I've heard about from the FE thread. She doesn't currently have any listed but is working hard to catch up and will have more soon, so by the end of the week I should be able to order.

And, um, checking in from the 40+ crowd here, too. At 41, with DDs 6 & 2.5, I'll be using Social Security checks to pay for college!:faint:

As for t-shirts, our group always has a set, which the men soooo LOVE! We told them not to whine again this year or we'll make them matching underwear, too!!! :rotfl: This year, DSIL (Rachel) and I are going to attempt to make shirts using a Disney name tag graphic that was nicely made for us by a fellow DISer, Tom. Hmmm, me, a hot iron and transfer paper.... could be scary! As I mentioned before, Tiggers don't sew - or iron!

Speaking of Rachel, I think she's been a bit busy working these past few days. SOMEONE's got to pay for this family cruise! :lmao:

Pam, I just asked gradsymommy if she has made a picture and that very moment when I read her no reply, y ou post this picture, you are an angel, thanks so much.

As mentioned in my last posting, it is funny to talk to you US guys and one big difference really is the kindness and open way of mind, we Europeans, especially the ones further north tend to be a bit "cool" and keep a certain distance.

Wow, really nice of you to offer to do the buttons. That would be super!

We're in Oviedo, Florida (just northwest of Orlando) - though fairly new. We're from the Northeast - Boston and Philly. My husband transferred down here last April and the rest of us joined him August 1. Definitely not the best time to arrive in Florida but, all in all, we're loving it. Wow, I worked for 2 days solid and missed 3 page of chatter. Remember when this thread was dying?
I AM SO HAPPY TO SHARE THE COLD WEATHER! You southerners are FUNNY whining about 60 degree weather. Donna, I remember not-so-long ago when you were in shorts in the 60's, and laughing at your Floridian mother wearing a jacket when it dipped down to 70 at the Magic Kingdom.

Pam - 35 degrees in Mississippi? WOW, that's cold even for Philadelphia! How did that happen? I hope it's short lived.
I have a serious case of spring fever. I've been working at the baseball stadium and the weather has been amazing. It'll hit 80 tomorrow and my cherry blossoms are in full bloom. I love it when it's in the 70's, sunny and not humid yet. I'm enjoying while it lasts. In no time it'll be muggy hot and sticky.

Eww, it's love bug season again? I forgot about that!
Last year I was in Florida over Memorial Day weekend and took a Carnival cruise. We drove from Orlando to the port and had to stop twice to get the love bug goo off of the windshield. OH man, you guys are in for a treat !!!

They are tiny flies and the they are in pairs. The big one is the female and the little one is the male. All of the cars will be covered in them. I remember one year sitting at Blizzard Beach and we couldn't escape them. They were swarming around us. Luckily it only lasts a few weeks. But we'll all be there to ENJOY.

Tom....the quickest way to get a fish extender is going to be on ebay. What you do onboard is bring a small gift to put into everyones fish extender. Some things I have received in the past are magnets(store bought and home-made), postcards from "your" area, small toys for kids, goodie bag full of candy, pirate items, key chains, etc. Just anything you can think of that will be small enough to put in the fish extender and will not take up alot of room in your luggage. It does not have to be expensive, Dollar Tree items are great. It is just fun to go back to your room and see what kind of goodies you might have waiting for you!! This is all for fun, so be creative. You do not have to "give" in order to "receive".

Hope that helps!

Then 5 days Orlando with WDW and Seaworld, we will be staying at the Polynesian and then T H E W O N D E R with all you sweet ones :dance3:

And then Disney Vero Beach for 5 days, and then, hopefully at Cape Canaveral the start of the Space Shuttle (highlight for my husband) and then 2 days Fort Lauderdale before we go home again. :scared:

Any tipps from your side, what are the MUST SEES at the above locations.

Looks like the pins are a go! I finished up the design. Need to make payment and they will ship early next week. I think 100 should do it, no? Does that sound like a good number. I am very pleased with them and can't wait to give them out!

I think 100 will be fine. I count 59 people at this time on our list. If you have extra you can give them to the crew.....they luv little gifts. On the transatlantic Laura and I gave our dining staff and room staff some of the leftover magnets that we had. They loved them!!

So do the 1.5" buttons work or do we want thr 2.25. Keep in mind they will not have our individual names on them so someone might want to take care of something of that nature. A simple ptouch labeler or something like that would work......I think the 1.5 inchers would be fine and un-obtrusive! What do you all think?

1.5" sounds like a good size. Not to big but not to small....and if we put them on lanyards, they will look ok at that size.

Speaking of lanyards. Any suggestions for a good place to get Disney lanyards for the fam?

Not sure about that Suzy. I was in previous large groups that had them made and then repeat cruisers usually get one from DCL. They might have something at WDW....maybe someone else can answer that for you. :confused3

Gruezi mitenand (Swiss German lesson Nr. 6)
(Hello to all of you)

Coffeegirl, thanks ever so much for all the effort with the pins and the lanyards (didn't know that word and had to look it up to know what you are talking about, but of course I know what it is. I am sorry, that I can not help with these things, but you do not get them overhere. So sorry. But I will make it up hopefully with nice Swiss presents.

Yes, this trip means soooooo much to the three of us, my father was very ill and for a long time, we were not sure if we can make it, but last week my father had a big operation and everything went just wonderfully good and now he is on the way up again and we know that we can leave Switzerland without feeling too guilty. We wanted to do that trip before Alena joins Kindergarten in Summer, after that, in Switzerland, it is not allowed to take the kids out of school outside normal holiday time. So we had to do it now.

I have to go now, it is midnight, the time difference is exactely 6 hours, so a good start into the weekend for all of you, I had it already, went to the movies with a girlfriend, had a few margaritas.
