Can it possibly be, that somehow I'm the first to start a trip meet thread for this cruise? My forum search did not reveal any others, nor is there one listed in the Irish Cowboy's magical master list :worship: so I guess I'll put this out there and see who else might be on board...

For us it will be our 2nd DCL cruise, first on the Magic, and we've just transferred our ressie to this cruise because it works better with our schedules (and budget) in place of a previously planned summer cruise. However, the original cruise had been a western - which I initially wanted b/c I'm leary of the potentially higher seas that I've seen repeatedly reported on the eastern itineraries...but DW & I are more interested in the eastern ports (we honeymooned in the BVI a few yrs back) and so I've been lured out past the gulfstream yet again...

Anyway, our family group (as indicated below) consists of myself, DW and our 2 DDs...DD1 will be 3.5, and she was with us on our 1st cruise on the Wonder (and she loved it - it was much better than Cats. She wants to do it again and again :rotfl: ) and I guess you could say that DD2 (who will be 1 yr 10 mo at the time of this cruise) was on-board during the last one also, also as DW would say, she didn't have much of a view (somehow I'm sure the porthole in the cat-9 we booked for this one will exceed the "view" looking out from utero - I've never quite figured out how that belly button works as a periscope during pregnancy, but hey, who am I to quibble?) :thumbsup2

Anyway, since I'm not sure if I'm doubling up efforts, let me throw this out there & see who else is planning to spend some time at sea....

Hi there - you are not alone! My dd and I are also sailing - she will be 10 1/2 by then (gulp). This will be our third trip on the Magic. The first was in 2005 to Mexico and we did a Western last spring break. We too hoped to do a Western again, but the timing didn't work. I love the BVI (my then-husband and I sailed for a week yrs ago), but I like the idea of an extra port day because my dd is very, very active. I could go on, but I wont. Who knows, maybe by age 10 she'll think its cool to lay by the pool!! We had a blast on our last cruise and cant wait to go again!

My fiance and I will be on this cruise for our honeymoon! We are really excited as this is his first cruise and probably my 10th or so. I've done Disney Cruise once before with family and friends and can't wait to share it with my "husband"!

:welcome: aboard!

I can't believe how much I'm looking forward to this trip...in fact, DW & I have decided to placate our excitement for next year's Spring Break trip, that we've decided to take the DDs to WDW for this year's Spring Break, and then whisk them off the abacos on our own private vacation during the summer (close enough to think about CC, while we'll be off on Tahiti beach - and not the one by the Poly longhouse)...

I'm sure our real reason for the excitement is that we haven't been back out to the VIs since our honeymoon 5yrs ago, and it will be nice to be back towards those waters....

Now if only we can lure some others along to become "one of us, one of us, one of us..."

We just booked this while on the Magic last week. It was a Western and we didn't get to go ashore at Grand Cayman, so the missing ports isn't an "Eastern" thing only. We booked two connecting Cat 8's on deck 6. We were in two non-connecting 8's on deck 5 for this trip and loved being on deck 5, but none of those are connecting.

It will be me and DH, twin dd's who will turn 15 the day before the cruise, and dd who will turn 12 the week after the cruise. The girls loved Ocean Quest and I'm hoping they will let the twins in since they will just have turned 15 and the cutoff is 14. If not, I'm sure they will make do with the open house hours. Of course, after six months in high school it might not be "cool" to go to Ocean Quest.

Alrighty! More friendly faces to look forward to sharing the ship!
Sorry to hear about your missing a port on your recent cruise...originally DW & I had wanted to do a western (mainly b/c I still have concerns that the seas will be a bit rougher on the eastern), but this one worked better for our schedules (& budget), so we decided to give it a go...and as you've probably picked up, I'm already busy obsessing over this at times, while DW goes about her normal every day life (a/k/a I-sense-I-should-not-mention-the-cruise-every-day-until-we-go)...:hippie:

Anyway, on the OT update on our family...we've booked a house in the abacos for this summer (where hopefully DD1 will get to enjoy some snorkeling if we work that out w/her in the pool during the next 2 mos), and to placate our souls til we're back on board...and just to even the gender oddsd in our household (1 DW, 2 DD, 1 DcatF, 1DguineapigF to little ole' me), we've just added a male collie pup to our mix....he's adorable (and so far so good on the type of training that you don't talk about or you'll curse it & have to clean up lots of messes)...but at least now I can plan on finally getting my Dsis to start paying me back for taking care of their pups whenever they go out of town - so we've got guaranteed pet sitters for the cruise....:woohoo:

Okay, so I impressed myself....I made it almost 2 months without changing something on my ressie...but I couldn't resist....I decided to go ahead and bump us up from a cat-9 to a cat-6 so we'd have a veranda....figured if DW & I are gonna have the kids w/us again (and using the excuse that DW does suffer from claustrophobia) that I should surprise her with the upgrade. :) and yes, I do always have to surprise DW with something, I can't help it, it's what I do.

llp479
04-10-2008, 10:40 PM
Congrats on the upgrade. You'll enjoy the veranda. We had one on the first cruise, but now that the girls are older, the two staterooms wins out over the veranda.

At least you have a male dog, DH has all women - the four humans, two female dogs, a spaniel and a chocolate lab, guinea pig, and turtle!

We will be joining you all on this cruise! We are just back from The Wonder and booked this while onboard. It will be me, (Liz), my DH (Dewey), and our 2 DD's.

My extended family will also be sailing too. My parents, (Austin and BettySue), my Aunt (KrisAnn), my cousin (Denene), her husband (David), and their son (Camrin).

We have been on the Western Magic and the Eastern Magic and are looking forward to seeing St. Croix!

Hi everyone! It great to see more people signing on.. Still a long way to go till we sail, but at least its less than a year now. Winter in colorado has gone on forever this year . . I need a beach! does anyone have any ideas/or heard rumors about St. Croix excursions?

Hi pclaire - I went to cruisecritic . com and did a search on St. Croix. I found there are several interesting things to see and do, apparently there is a great place for snorkeling and diving called Buck Island and there is a Rain Forest, a botanical garden and excursions that include touristy type stuff, seeing local sites and shopping. There is also a casino which my Dad and Husband will surely be stopping in to visit.

I'm looing forward to seeing what Disney's excursions will be when they are posted on the DCL website.

My DD will be 10 too when we cruise next March, she will turn 11 during the cruise.

Hi Everyone! My DH (Joe) and I will be celebrating 25 years of wedded bliss :rotfl: on this cruise. Actual date is March 3 but I have this week off for spring break (I teach first grade). This is our second Eastern. We had been planning a Western but needed to reschedule due to conflicts. Anyway . . . we'll bring the whole gang DS13, DS11, DS9, DMom, DDad, DS and new DDIL, and hopefully DS21 who is in college. So far we have 3 category 9 rooms. We LOVED:lovestruc our first cruise and plan to be regulars, as long as the money holds out. We also rebooked on board but changed dates twice. See everyone in March.

Started pricing airfare for the trip - YIKES! We always do our own and spend a day before and after at WDW. Sure hope I don't have to buy them one ticket at a time in order to get a decent fare.

The dds have an 8th grade graduation dance the end of the month. Hoping whatever I buy for them to wear will work for formal night next trip. Surely they have to stop growing at some point.

Well Add us to the group!

We sailed on the Magic May 3-10 Western & booked this cruise while onboard.

We sailed a Eastern in 2007 & did not like St. Marteen so we are looking forward to going to St. Croix.

We're in connecting Category 6's on Deck 6.

It will be Me, My sister, My dd (7 years old then) & My parents.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone. Had fun meeting the Dis crowd on the last cruise.

Hi All,
We are a family of four from Littleton, CO. This will be our second Disney Cruise. We cruised Disney a little more than 2 years ago and then did RCCL in between.
My girls will be 7 (Turns 7 on the ship) and almost 11 at cruise time. My dad will also be joining us.
At this time I am the most excited but they will all come around!

Okay, so gotta ask the obvious....where in FL? As you can see from my signature, we're over on the west coast....

WELCOME! Glad to hear you'll be joining us - and I can certainly relate to being the most excited member of the group....DW always thinks I spend too much time planning and/or on the DIS, but it's true, so I live with it....:lmao: Anyway, slightly :offtopic: but I'm curious to hear about what you thought about your RCCL cruise, b/c I've been toying with the idea of surprising DW with one for our anniversary this year (last minute, I know)....I already have an adults wknd at WDW planned, but have been debating about doing something that takes us that much "further" away....:rolleyes1

Hi everyone- glad to see there are some more people joining in! Sandi T - my daughter and I live in Lakewood - small world. She'll be 10 1/2 when we cruise and in 5th grade. What school do your kids go to? does anyone else have kids that have been in Ocean Quest? (I think thats the name) My dd was too young last cruise. she's never liked the club or the lab much, so I'm hoping this will excite her. Cant believe summer is finally here - only 2 more days of school . . wish the cruise was next week!

Cobbo,
We LOVED the RCCL cruise. We were on Freedom of the seas with 3000 other people but I have no idea where they were because there was never a wait or crowd for anything! The pools were not crowded and we always found chairs available to us. My family of four actually preferred this to the Disney Cruise but my 86 year old father did not. There was so much for my family to do we did not see my father as much. He preferred the Disney Cruise and since the cruise is his treat, we go with what he says. Although I must say we did love our Disney cruise and I am beyond excited for this one!

P Claire,
My daughter will be in 5th grade as well. She is at Shaffer-Jefferson County. On the last cruise, she was just shy of 8 and spent very little time in the kids club. She was with the 5-7 yr olds and hated it. They offered to move her up as she is rather mature in her demeanor but she is tiny and I was not comfortable to have her with 8 & 9 year olds. In the 10-12 year old group, I think she will have a grand old time. My 6 (turning 7 on the ship) year old is so happy go lucky, she will fit into wherever we put her.
Where does your daughter go? We just spent the weekend in Glenwood Springs. My kids LOVE the pool. We tried to get them to do something else up there but in the end, we spent 6 hours, two days in a row at the pool. :cool1: My kids wanted to go back the last day but my skin could not take it. 85 SPF and still I turned red!

Hi everyone. I was wondering, is anyone planning to do a snorkel trip to St. John's, and if so, what company? Or is it way too early to think about it??!! My dd loves to snorkel, and we'd rather do a smaller excursion than DCL's, but we dont know anything about the different companies I'm thinking that in St. Croix we will do a ship excursion, just because there aren't many reviews of private ones out there, since the cruise ships have just recently gone back to the island. I'm a little nervous going off on our own there, but not in St. Thomas/St. John. anyway, looking forward to hearing about everyone's ideas on excursions.

Sandi, my dd goes to Bear Creek, also in Jeffco - at Kipling and Morrison. Right now she's on vacation with her dad in Durango - doing zip lines and a raft trip. I'm nervous cause the run off is at its peak and the rivers are so high. She's already started rolling her eyes at me when I do the worried mom thing. Imagine when she's 13 . . .

pclaire - I think we will be going to St John this time and we are looking for some snorkling adventures there too. Last time on St Thomas we sailed on the Doubloon and went snorkling with that excursion and had a blast! But, they do not go over to St John. Go to their website Doubloon.com or check out what others are saying on The Dis, this is a super fun snorkling excursion for kids and adults. pirate:

Cobbo - Hi-de-ho Neighbors! We are in Pinellas, Palm Harbor area. Where about in Tampa are you? My DH grew up in the Town and Country area. :thumbsup2

Woo hoo - count us in! My parents 50th Anniversary is 5/31/09 - but my nieces won't be out of school yet. So we're all going on the 3/28 to celebrate their anniversary. It will be me, DH & Becca (22), my brother, sil and 2 nieces - (13 & 11) & of course Mom & Dad. Of course, I'm saying all this and we haven't officially informed my brother yet!!! But he knew it was in the works. Mom & Dad are paying 1/2 so how can you turn that down? I"ve been on the 3 day & the 4 day Wonder - we went last Sept for our 25th anniversary on the 4 day. But I've never been on a week long cruise so I am psyched!!!

My family also did the Doubloon Sail and Snorkel! pirate:
We had a blast. We're looking to snorkel again but at St. John and maybe the rainforest in St. Croix. I would love to do a zip line if they had it there. I can't wait until March.

Hi everyone, glad I found this link!! We will also be on the Magic the week of March 28. It's myself, dh, ds9 and dd who will turn 8 the second day of the cruise.

We've never been on a Disney cruise before, and the kids have never cruised at all (dh and I did one cruise to Alaska in 2006 on Princess).

I don't know what the fish extender thing is, but I'm always up for anything fun, so if someone can explain what it is I'd love to hear about it.

I really have to start researching the Disney crusie to figure out what we want to do. I'm a planner type of person, so I tend to research everything to death.

Hi and Welcome!

The fish extender actually hangs from the fish beside the door. The fish that is there is for staff to leave notes, etc. The extender is sort of like an organizer, although some people have just used gift bags, tote bags, etc. You can do a search a find loads of information. Once I gather the names and room numbers of everyone who wants to participate, I will send them to everyone. Each family will buy or make inexpensive gifts for the other families and deliver and put them in the fish extender. So, when you come back to your room, you will have a surprise. You can also do a search for fish extender gift ideas. People have done magnets, stickers, candy, personalized items, pencils, etc. Some deliver gifts every day and some only do one day. It will be totally up to you. If we have alot of cabins who want to participate, I will probably divide it up so we don't have soooo many to buy for. I read where another group did that. We certainly don't want 100 cabins to have to deliver to! :rotfl:

I am a planner like you, so I have done search after search and now I'm already planning my gifts! I will probably wait until after Christmas to start asking for everyone's information and then close it out a few weeks before so we know exactly how many to buy for. So, your daughter will turn 8 on the 29th?

Also, people make magnets for their door. They are cool! You can find loads of information about them as well. Any questions, just ask and I will be glad to help. This will be our 4th Disney cruise and my 10th cruise total.

Okay, I know I haven't been on this board in a while, and alas, I have somewhat sad news to report - at least for my need to go cruising....after thinking about the newly released cruises for 2010, DW & I decided to push back our ressie on this one to a June 2010 itin so that we could fully enjoy having the DDs in the clubs and not be restricted in our hours with DD2 in Flounders....

Okay, that and we've been guilted into spending this Spring Break out in Utah visiting my baby brother & his wife out there in order get the DDs started on some ski lessons before baby bro, et al, move to NC in June....guess it'll be an extended family time (which is fine for me b/c I want the DDs to learn to snow ski, but DW is not too pleased about trading CC for snow)...:rolleyes1

Oh well, at least we'll have the 2010 cruise to look forward to....guess it's time to reset my trip trackers....

In any event, ya'll have fun & I'll check back in from time to time....*wave*

I know we are over 4 months out, but I am a planner, so......

If you would like to join in on the Fish Extender exchange fun, please pm me the names of everyone in your cabin (first and last), age and sex of your children and cabin number. Once I gather the information from everyone, I will pm a list, by deck, to make the exchange easier on everyone.

No rules...you can deliver gifts as often or as little as you like. We will deliver to all cabins UNLESS we have too many. If that is the case, I will divide us into groups so we aren't running around the whole ship! :)

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to pm me with those as well.:cheer2:

I just thought I would see if there was any activity for our March cruise and gald to see that there is - and really glad to see there is discussion of the FE. We (DH, myself, DD(13) and DS(10)) have been on the Wonder three times but this is our first time on the Magic for 7 nights. We are really looking forward to it and are curious what differences we will find between the activities available between the 4 night and 7 night cruises. We would love to be part of the FE. We booked our cruise a while back through Dreams Unlimited. Does anyone know if we want to get this deal, do we have to cancel our current reservation and re-book using the new code, do we just contact our TA and they add this on, or can we just add it on during the cruise?

DisneyFreak1 -- tried to PM you, but I haven't posted enough to qualify to send PMs. I'd like to join the FE exchange, so send me a PM and I'll see if I can reply.

In the meantime, we're happy to be cruising DCL again! This will be our third cruise, after having done the 7-day western and eastern. Frankly, although the kids and my husband like to get off the ship, I prefer to stay onboard for the duration. It's so peaceful onboard when all you adventurous types head onto the islands! (Actually, I adore Castaway Cay, so I do willingly get off the ship at least once.)

We have three kids who will be in a connecting room. I can't list my husband Andy as a kid, but he'll be a happy traveler, too.
- Maddie is 12 and is our dramatic actress. She's an outgoing, funny girl who loves all things teen-oriented. She's very bright and adventurous.
- Nina will be newly 10 on the cruise. She's funny and clever, but definitely needs her time alone. She loves video games, reading, and planning.
- Sam is 7 and has the mind of a math master. He's outgoing and funny, and enjoys Legos, RV's (no , we don't have one... it's a mystery), and rollercoasters.

We will be sporting Fish Extenders on our doors, but I'm not sure what the design will be yet. I'll be making it myself, so quality will either be excellent or iffy, depending on my mood.

ETA: We'll be on Deck 6 as well! Good company...

Hope you all have a great trip. We won't be sailing this time as my DH will no longer be employed as of 1/16/09. Couldn't justify spending the money given this situation. So, if anyone was waiting for two connecting Cat 8's, you may have gotten lucky today.

May you all be blessed and have a wonderful holiday season and a great cruise!

LLP - I'm so sorry to hear about your husband being laid off. That's such a tough situation regardless of when it happens, and the economy is for sure not making it any easier. I'll cross my fingers that he's able to find something quickly, and hopefully not have any down time.

My family and I will be joining everyone on this cruise

Welcome! Let us know if you're bringing kids along and what their ages are. My three (see a few posts above this one for their names/interests) are so excited for this cruise, and want to know every potential friend that will be on board.

And definitely consider joining our FE exchange. DisneyFreak1 is coordinating it, and she mentioned she has 6 or 7 families signed up so far, although there may be more that I don't know about. I can't tell from your posts whether you've been on a DCL cruise yet. Will this be your first?

There are a bunch of DIS members on Deck 6 for this cruise. We're trying out a new forward location on 6 this year, after two cruises (eastern and western) on 6 midship.

Is there any final word on the change of event nights for this cruise? With Palo reservations opening up in a couple days, I want to make sure I don't accidentally schedule us for Pirate Night. Has anyone been able to verify the theme of each night?

I've posted begging/pleading on the other St. Croix itineraries asking for cruisers to upload Navigators as soon as they return so we can plan for ours.

I have finally PMed our information from the fish extenter activity and can't wait for the cruise. We were on-line checking out excursions for this cruise and was wondering if any veterans of this cruise have any recommendations. We have only been on the Wonder and this is our first 7 night cruise so looking for any insights to this cruise that anyone can pass along. Also, we have a 13 and 10 year old and wonder what the kids do for the three days at sea - any special activities going on for them outside the kids groups?

Got your info! Glad you joined our fish extender exchange! We have been to St. Thomas, but did not do an excursion. St. Thomas is great for shopping! My son is 13 now, but was much younger when we sailed before, so I am not sure what he will do on the sea days. I will be tanning on Deck 10!

I will be the first to admit that I'm a bit high-strung, so my answers may or may not be helpful! As you read parts of my response, you might wonder why I cruise at all, but I assure you that I have a great time on the DCL cruises.

First, you will LOVE the 7-day cruise because you can unpack! I don't like short trips anywhere because I feel like I'm living out of a suitcase. Empty yours when you first board, then give the suitcases to your room steward to stow during the cruise. (I'm not sure what the Wonder does, but this is a standard request on 7-days cruises. They'll even remember to bring them back to you Thursday or Friday.)

The downside to days at sea is that the ship is quite crowded. I don't like crowds, so I tend to hang out at the adult pool (sometimes even that gets too crowded), in the Rainforest (again, potential overcrowding), or in my room reading. The biggest mistake we made on our first cruise was to take the kids to the pool on a sea day for a great family bonding experience. Some parents may find the crowds invigorating, but I ended up really angry at everyone around me for being so disorganized and ridiculous. Some parents were ignoring their horribly-misbehaving kids, and others were nearly abusive to their perfectly-normal kids. I ranted and carried on until my husband sent me away "for the sake of the children." I can't tell you how happy I was to leave!

Also -- and I know this is being picky -- it's REALLY windy on sea days. I have long hair and almost always leave it down, so it was annoying to have it forever flicking me in the eyes or getting stuck in my mouth.

The upside is there are LOTS of activities, and the kids' programming is designed to keep the kids happy ALL day. The shops are open, and usually MUCH less crowded on the early sea days. It's nice to sit in the movie theater on those days (bring a sweater & your favorite movie snacks from home) or just hang out playing Bingo or whatever. There are lectures and organized activities for families.

I usually bring Boggle or cards and play games with my kids in a lobby somewhere with an ocean view. Promenade Lounge and Sessions are great for this during the day. Sure, we could play games in our stateroom, but it's so much fun to find an out-of-the-way place to play!

The days I love to stay on board are the days everyone else goes OFF the ship! I adore Castaway Cay, and look forward to it all week, but for the most part, I prefer to look at the docks and islands from the comfort of the ship.

When the ship is docked, it is a different world! Lunch in Lumiere's is truly a wonderful, relaxed experience. The restaurant is usually only half-full, and you can look out the window at the island mountains. If the family pools are open -- You gotta check! sometimes they're being re-filled or cleaned! -- they are not crowded and the kids can go down the slide without waiting long. The kids' programming is usually only about half-full, so the kids get lots of attention. There are still a handful of organized activities on board, but they're relaxed and low-key. The spa has Port Day Specials, and the Rainforest Room and workout areas are not crowded at all.

And -- just to confirm that I am truly crazy -- I LOVE doing laundry on Port days! I pick the Port day closest to the halfway point, and do 2-3 loads at once. The machines aren't usually busy, and I can pack far less this way. I set my iPod/iPhone to alert me when 30 minutes is up, and I go walk around the deck or sit in the sun or read in the lobby while my laundry is in the machines. It's totally relaxing for me, and I feel organized in a way that I never feel at home.

My kids will be 12, 10 and 7 on the cruise, so the only child I can help you with is your younger one. I would say if he/she is outgoing, the kids' programming is probably spot on! You'll get a good idea of the other activities available if you check a recent Magic navigator. [Go to WDWinfo, click on Disney Cruise Line, click on Planning, click on Navigators.] The Eastern cruise most closely resembles ours. I've left messages on other St. Croix cruise meet forums asking people to post their Navigators asap. Hopefully they'll have a chance to upload them before we take our cruise.

We will also be on this sailing! It will be DH, DS4, DS10 and my mom. We are getting really excited.

I booked our shore excursions, spa treatments and Palo reservations early this morning!

I booked my mom for a manicure and pedicure on Sunday morning.
DH and I are doing the Couple Retreat at the Spa Villas on Monday morning.
On St. Croix we are all doing the Carambola Beach Break.
On St. Thomas we are all doing the Coral World Marine by Land and Sea.
Brunch at Palo without the kids of course on Thursday morning.

Now I am just trying to decide if we want to take DS10 on the Personal Watercraft Eco Tour while at Castaway Cay.

What shore excursions are some of you thinking of doing or have already booked?

Dyanne
12-28-2008, 01:20 PM
We've decided not to sign up for any official excursions yet.

My husband took the kids on the St. Thomas skyride during our last cruise and they all loved the parrot show at the top. It's just a quick walk to the base. He talked me into doing that with everyone this time.

The Butterfly exhibit is not far, either, so we're doing that on our own as well. Our plan is to spend the morning attending both the butterfly and the skyride, then head back to the ship to have lunch. We'll stay on board the rest of the day.

We want to hear more from cruisers about their St. Croix excursions before we make any decisions, but I'll probably stay on board. I'll keep an eye on the Trip Reports to see if anyone gets off at St. Croix. There are two other cruises like ours before we go.

We too are not signing up for much. I went outside of Disney and signed up for a VIP sailing Adventure in St. Thomas. It will just be our family of 5 on a private yacht. They have something like it in St. Croix through Disney and I did inquire about the cost, 1299.00 for 6.5 hours. Exactly double what we are paying for the same time.
I think we will just hit the beach in St. Croix. I was reading about St. Croix and only one cruise ship docks there a day so it is not as crowded as some other ports.
One night at Palo and a pedicure and we are calling it good.

I asked about the 3 night cruise for $99.00 pp and they said there will be paperwork about it in our cabins when we get on the ship.

I also asked if formal night, pirate night etc. were the same as the the other eastern cruises and they did not have that info but hopefully it is the same. I booked Palo for formal night because we just are not the formal type.

88 days and counting!

Our challenge with our kids is they wanted nothing to do with the kids programs - but we have only been on the 4 night cruise which is much different. On the 4 night, the only full day at sea is the last day. Since we always did excursions in the Bahamas and spent the day together at Castaway Cay, the kids never really hooked up with anyone. And they actually had a graduation ceremony during the afternoon on that one day at sea so it was odd to just join and then 'graduate'. So we are certainly hoping that with the days at sea starting us off, they may meet some friends right off!

Family of 4 from Eden Prairie, MN. DW DH, DS6 and DS11. This will be our fourth spring break Eastern cruise on DCL. We had 5 in the past but our oldest will be playing baseball in FL with his HS team.

One thing differrent about this year is that we will be going to St. Croix instead of St. Martin - actually a little bummed as we really liked St. Martin and St. Croix sounds somewhat similar to St. Thomas (but less busy and crowded). For example - will a Buck Island day sail be similar to a St. John/Trunk bay day sail?

If anyone here knows anything about the preferrable St. Croix beachs/itineraries, feel free to share. Also, does anyone know if St. Croix even has private daysails the way St. Thomas has?

In St. Thomas, we have usually chartered our own day sail. We may do that again but it is not for certain.

Just bumping this up.

Is everyone else getting as excited about the cruise as I am? Maybe because this is our first Disney cruise I'm more anxious than others. We were in Disney World over Christmas, and it really has me in the Mickey and Minnie mood.

Has someone posted or does anyone know what the "nights" will be for our trip? For example, formal, semi-formal, Pirates, etc? I would think that if this is not yet published, the current "Eastern" Itinerary would be our best guess - substituting St. Croix for St. Martin....

I read somewhere that this is the order (but I'm not sure if this is right or not):

Saturday - casual
Sunday - Formal
Monday - Casual
Tuesday (St Croix) - Casual
Wednesday (St Thomas) - Pirate night
Thursday - semi formal
Friday (Castaway) casual

There is someone who is on the St. Croix cruise right now (ends tomorrow), who promises to right a trip report and give feedback (on the trip report thread) when she gets home. We can double check it all with her.

OK, reports are starting to trickle in from people who just got done sailing the St. Croix itinerary. The following link contains the "night" information as well as shows, etc. etc.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2055051

Preliminary reports on St. Croix are lukewarm at best - however, we should be able to use these reports and information to pick the best itineraries, excursions - or at least know how to plan our day and what to avoid.

It will be interesting to here how most of us in this thread plan to spend that day.

Hello, everyone!

My name is Yvonne my two children and I will be joining the cruise on March 28th. I am SOOO excited and can hardly contain myself. I have NEVER been on a cruise before. I have always wanted to go so this is a huge treat for us all. My little Princess will be turning 5 on the trip, it is also our Spring Break. I am having a hard time keeping everything to myself. I want to tell my children so bad but I can't. As you other parents know, they will drive me up the wall if I tell them. However, they know something is up as I have clued them in on something magical is about to happen. I really wanted to go to the Western Carribean but was unable to with my travel dates so we are going Eastern. ;) I am so happy typing this post today and look forward to making some great new friends. I have a 100 questions and I will continue to read to see if they have been asked before but please bear with me as I join in a little late. I've read about the fish extenders, can we join? I am a single parent and I am looking forward to the kids having a great time away and some real R&R AND adult time with others. I hope that their are other single parents on the trips as well. One of my BF's just took the Western cruise in October 08 on the Magic so she told me about this board and of course I hooked up with this after I bought everything, I hope I got a great deal?? We are still looking for decent airfare. I found that Airtran has some great fares but it appears that we cannot fly to Florida on their blackout dates which correspond with the trip. YIKES! Any advice would be nice.

Well, tootles! Please write soon.

:cheer2:

Welcome, this is our first Disney cruise also. My daughter will also be celebrating her birthday while we are on the ship, she'll be turning 8. I have a son who is 9.

Can't help you on the airfare. We are from the Cincinnati area, and we've decided to just drive, to save money and to make packing easier (we don't have to worry about weight limits for bags or anything). We drove to Disney this past Christmas and it took about 13 hours driving time, not ideal, but doable, especially since there are two of us to take turns driving.

We've booked the snorkeling trip to Buck Island on our St. Croix day. We are also snorkeling on Buck Island on the St. Thomas day (The Dabloon snorkel). We considered doing the Sprat Hall Reef snorkel in St. Croix, but the one review I read for it said the snorkeling was bad, so I decided to stick with Buck Island. We are also doing the tram ride in St. Thomas. We are just going to enjoy the beach at CC. I think we'll rent bikes for an hour, but other than that, nothing specific planned.

I'm hoping they get some of the kinks worked out of the St. Croix problems by the time we sail.

We are finally getting to go on our very first cruise, and of course it HAS to be Disney. It will be me, DH, DS16,DD11,DS10, grandma and grandpa. So sad that DS20 won't be able to come also. I have had a lot of fun planning and researching. We have decided to book a couple of excursons through Disney, even though they are a bit pricey. We figure, we'd go our first time and get an idea of how it all works. Plus I have an irrational fear of missing the ship! :scared:

We have decided on the Salt River Kayak tour in St Croix and the Buck Island Catamaran/Snorkel excursion at St John/St Thomas.

I was trying to book some parasailing at CC but it won;t let me, I am too tired to mess wiht it tonight. I am either too late or need to break us into smaller groups.

As for Palo--got on the first day I could to make ressies and they were all gone except for our first night. I am hoping that some fairy dust will find me when we get there and I can book on board, really wanted to do a high tea and a brunch also, guess it's all a good reason to go again if it doesn't work out this time

Looking forward to this! Hope you all have a wonderful time.:earsboy:

6mouskateers,
I did not get the Palo reservations I wanted on our first cruise as well but when I got onto the ship I raced over to the area where you make Palo reservations. (I think it was in Beat Street right next to the entrance.) and they had lots of openings. I think the save plenty for when people get on the ship but make sure you go right when you get on, just one person from your party needs to go and it only takes a minute.:yay:

You certainly can join in on the Fish Extender exchange. Email me your names (first and last), ages of your children, and your stateroom number. I also would like to know what day your daughter is turning 5.

It won't let me PM you until I have 10 messages, so I guess I will respond to stuff today so i can start PM'ing people. :)

Palo? I am guessing it's the fancy restaurant and I can go thre to eat at least once but need reservations? Can I do high tea anytime with my daughter? Doesn't everyone get a chance to eat there at least once? I mean we all paid for the cruise? What happens if we don't get a reservation, we're SOL??? What if this is the only cruise I can never afford to do this again? HELP - what should my expectations be?

I can't wait to meet everyone - super greta news!!! I found airfare for roughly $700 bucks round trip from Indianapolis to Orlando 3/27 outbound and returning 4/5 sure I will spend money on the hotel but it was a heck of a lot cheaper than $1500 bucks for all of us plus if we really wanna spend one day at Disney afterwards we can.

Does anyone recommend doing one day at Disney afterwards or are you pretty much pooped from it all???? MY bff went in October and they did 3 days before the cruise and it was well worth it. IDK...I've only done animal kingdom and magic kindgom in the past one day each.

Has someone posted or does anyone know what the "nights" will be for our trip? For example, formal, semi-formal, Pirates, etc? I would think that if this is not yet published, the current "Eastern" Itinerary would be our best guess - substituting St. Croix for St. Martin....

Not sure if you have your answer already but I found great information ion the St Croix thread. A family just returned from the MAgic Cruise there and totally are sharing all the scoop.

Saturday - Cruise Casual

Sunday - Formal

Monday - see Saturday

Tuesday - Pirate pirate:

Wednesday - see Saturday

Thursday - Captain's Gala - lobster night - Semi Formal

Friday - see Saturday

Of course there are different shows and themes each night. I hope this is the question you were asking and I answered it just briefly!!

So excited like 71 days!!! :beach:

Please tell me more about the $99 pp 3 day sailing is this an incentive to get us to come back???!!! Do tell or send me somewhere to find more info.

We booked our cruise a while back through Dreams Unlimited. Does anyone know if we want to get this deal, do we have to cancel our current reservation and re-book using the new code, do we just contact our TA and they add this on, or can we just add it on during the cruise?

Do you know if I can take more than one person on this deal, I know it's limited to availability but can I take ohh 8 people for this price as long as I attend. It sounds like a great fall break 2009 escape!!!!

Thanks in advance for your prompt reply. :beach:

What category did you book? If you booked a category 12, you won't get your cabin number until about 30 days out. If you don't have one, no problem, we are all going to meet once we board so we can get updated cabin numbers in case anyone gets upgraded. Also, it will give all of us a chance to meet each other.

Hi mommavon,

Our kiddos are a bit older, so they will be coming with us. If you are booking through Disney, you can see what the recommended ages are. If you have any doubt about whether or not they would enjoy the excursion, I would opt to enroll them in one of the Kid's clubs that day if they are available on port days or maybe opt for a beach-based snorkel/swim/beach play day with them. Since this is our first cruise, I am not sure how that all works. Someone out there with more experience would probably have some better info about this.

RE: Palo--it is the adult only restaurant 18 years old and up. It is not in the regular dining rotation and requires a reservation and extra charge. They have an Adult only high tea and brunch.

There may be a character tea, but am not sure if that is on our crusie or not. I would look around Disney website and the boards a bit to verify this, or maybe someone here can elaborate for us. There is also a character breakfast one morning and I think we find out what day that is when we get our dining assignments when we get on board. HTH!!!

Mommavon,
Disney will not let your kids go anywhere near the excursion if they are not old enough, even to just sit and watch. You can leave them in the kids clubs while you are on shore.
They are very strict on ages for excursions. Last time my daughter was 1 week from turning 4, the minimum age for an excursion we wanted to do and they would not budge. I had to go outside of disney and make the reservation directly with the company. The company itself was flexible, however it was only because she was one week away and could participate in the activity.

We found it was nice to do at least one excursion without our kids. We did that last time we sailed with Disney and they had a great time in "camp" and we had a great time on shore. We talked about our adventures at dinner and had a great time! I highly recommend it!

You don't really have to use an "official" fish extender. I have seen photos of gift bags, stockings, etc. that people have used. There are numerous threads with photos of fish extenders and the instructions to make them on these boards or you can find them for sale on ebay.

I spoke with DCL as of today the following movies are being shown.

What movies will be playing on our voyage? You can call 888-325-2500, choose the reservations option, then ask what movies will be showing the week you cruise.

Keep in mind if something is a new release we will get to view it as well. Small bags of popcorn will be for sale but it's not like the movie theatre kind and we are allowed to bring in candy, hotdogs, fries anything into the theatre.

Bedtime Stories
Bolt 3D w/the glasses
HSM3
Morning Light
Beverly Hills Chiuhaua
College Road Trip
Swing Vote
Hannah Montana Concert - 3D (?)
Enchanted

Sounds like fun!! We've seen several of these and they are great. Does anyone know if the theatres are COLD!? Dress Code?

We are a family of 4: DH(45); Me(45); DS(13); DD(10). First Disney cruise for all of us...I've been on a carnival cruise many years ago.

I think we'll pass on the Fish Extenders this time and just take it all in. Maybe we'll participate on our NEXT cruise! (Will we be hooked on cruisin?)

We are from the Minneapolis area and after the COLD winter we're having, we are already counting the days to the cruise.

We signed up for the Doubloon excursion in St. Thomas and TENTATIVELY so far, the deep sea fishing excursion at St. Croix for my DH and DS who LOVE to fish. A once in a lifetime experience for sure (it is very expensive!). Still trying to find out more info on it.....no one has responded that they've been on it or heard anyone that's tried it. We may end up canceling, just because it's a lot of money to spend on something "sight unseen" so-to-speak. But we'll see.

Still researching other options for excursions. Might do the jet-ski tour at CC unless someone could sway us towards something else!

Happy to be aboard! Looking forward to meeting everyone!:)

Hi everyone! It great to see more people signing on.. Still a long way to go till we sail, but at least its less than a year now. Winter in colorado has gone on forever this year . . I need a beach! does anyone have any ideas/or heard rumors about St. Croix excursions?

I have a good friend who lives in St. Croix so I got the scoop from a "local" who lived in the states and recently moved to VI's.

I will paste her email below and then I will also post the information on family tings to do and the site I received it from.

I apologize in advance for the long email but I think you'll appreciate it. :cool1:

- Big Beard's Buck Island Tour. It's out of Christiansted. You go to the beach at Buck Island, then go snorkeling, and then there's a BBQ lunch.

- St. Croix's Blue Water Adventures (SCUBA) West End Snorkel Tour. It's out of Frederiksted where the ship comes in. They take you to a couple of reefs and then you snorkel the cruise ship pier...not sure how it works when a ship is in.

- Tan-Tan Tours. Its a 4 wheel drive tour of the island. I haven't done this, but heard its fun. I've heard the 4 hour tour is the right length. They take you to the tide pools and through the rain forest on the west end of the island.

The website www.gotostcroix.com is my favorite for info about things to do. You could also always take your kids fishing on the boat my husband work's on! Their website is www.fishwithcarl.com.

There are a few St. Croix restaurants that know how to put on a show! They host a traditional West Indian style dinner that includes food, drinks and entertainment. BBQ chicken, ribs, grilled fish, spice rice, beans, sweet potato casserole, & (rum) punch are usually on the menu. Entertainment includes fire eaters, glass walkers, steel pan music and Mocko Jumbies. Everyone in the family will be pleased! Where? Harbormaster Restaurant, located on Protestant Cay every Tuesday evening. Divi Carina Resort & Casino every Thursday evening; and the Pirate’s Buffet at Carambola Beach Resort every Friday night. We recommend you make reservations during season, and call ahead to make sure the show is still on during off season.

Crab races take place at Fort Christian Brew Pub. Pick your winning crab on St. Croix!7. Get Crabs.
Only in the Caribbean is this allowed, or even thought of. Crab races are held several times a week at different restaurants all over the island. Let the kids pick their own crabs at around $2 a piece. You’ll recognize the crab names such as “Mocko”, “Big Beard”, “Crazy Gecko”, and “Tim Duncan”. Don’t worry, you won’t have to keep the crabs, just cheer them on in the races. Race “authorities”, Tito & Sue run a tight ship; so be on your BEST behavior; and if you can’t, well, then off with your hand! Or, maybe at least it gets taped to your leg. At the sound of the Kazoo, the crabs are released and off they go….and go…and go…some fast, some slow, but all silly to watch. Who wouldn’t love this? Those who picked the winning crabs are awarded with prizes such as locally made bracelets, t-shirts, bottles of our famous Cruzan Rum (for the parents, not the kids!) and each kid is rewarded with a small prize for participation and good behavior! Races take place every Monday evening at Fort Christian Brew Pub on the Boardwalk in Christiansted, every Wednesday night at the Divi Carina Bay Resort & Casino & Friday Night at Tamarind Reef Hotel. Read about our winning night!

Horseback riding through the lush west endof St. Croix.6. Giddy Up & Go!
A bit of a slower pace, but oh so beautiful! Each family member can be atop their own horse, or the younger ones can double up with the older ones for a trail ride through our west end rain forest. Look for larger than life millipedes, termite balls and learn about the rich history in the hills out west. Safety is of utmost importance; and even if you have never been on a horse, a quick lesson is all you will need on this trip through the rain forest. Read about our afternoon trail ride here.

Beachside Cafe at Sandcastle on the Beach + The Palms Restaurant ; one is west and one is east!5. A Hikin' We Will Go.
Exploring the land by foot is hands down the easiest and cheapest way for the family to spend time together. Pack a picnic lunch, plenty of water, wear a hat and plenty of sunscreen and make your way down one of the hidden trails. Jack & Issac Bays, Annaly Bay Tide Pools, Creque Dam and the Hams Bluff Light House are just a few well known St. Croix hikes. The St. Croix Environmental Association & The St. Croix Landmarks Society sponsor regular hikes (for a small fee) where you can also listen to an ecological & historical interpretation of the land. There is even a hiking association on island. Click here to read about our local hikes.

Mocko Junbies are a hit with the crowd at Jump Up on St. Croix.4. Jump Up.
Pretty much a hodge podge of St. Croix culture in one easy, safe location in downtown Christiansted. Jump Up is a large street party that occurs four times a year (November, February, May, July). Shops offer great sales and each Jump Up has its own theme. What remains the same is this: steel pan, quelbe, soca, calypso, traditional quadrille dancers in the street dressed in authentic madras costumes. The aroma of fried fish, salt fish, shrimp, pate, Johnny cakes, roti fill the air from the road side vendors. Vendors offer local drinks (with or with out Cruzan Rum) and you can even have a coconut cut open right before your eyes to drink the sweet ‘coconut milk”. The highlight of the evening are the Mocko Jumbies who begin dancing around 7pm at the end of Queen Cross Street. These impressive stilt walkers are derivative of African folklore and are believed to be good spirits that keep away the bad. In our modern world, to be a real life Mocko Jumbie is quite an honor and discipline that young men & women work very hard at. Jump Up is a delight for all senses and all members of your family! Just take a look at our photo album!

These young swimmers are having a great time swimming and playing on the beach at Buck Island.3. Buck Island Reef National Monument
One of our Top Ten Things you must do on St. Croix, Buck Island is also a must for families because it is sooooo easy! You can take a power boat, catamaran or private sailboat to Buck Island, all accommodating every member of the family no matter the age. The boat ride is relatively short and you’re in protected waters the entire time. Let the kids run and play in the sand on Turtle Beach, while the parentals stroll hand in hand and re-connect on a different level. Let one of the boat crew give the family a refresher course in snorkeling and then head over to the snorkel trails and explore together. Give the kids an underwater camera and see what develops! Start by looking at our Buck Island Photo Album.

Kayak with the entire family through the tranquil waters of Salt River.2. The Family That Kayaks Together, Kayaks Together.
Pretend you are pirates for the day and explore historic Salt River by kayak. You’ll be in the same waters as many well-known 17th century explorers, including Christopher Columbus. Salt River is an ecologically sensitive area which is home to an abundance of St. Croix wildlife. Kayaks seat 2, making it easy for all ages. Life jackets are provided, but the water is calm. Follow your guide as you paddle through old boat wreckage listening to their (not-so) haunting stories. Make your way to the shallows of the mangroves looking for osprey, egrets, pelicans and iguanas. The kids will LOVE it. Take a dip and cool off in the water along the beach before it is time to head back. Salt River Kayak tours are available in the morning, afternoon and evening (which is a terrific opportunity to see the bio-luminescence in the water). The day we did a morning kayak tour, a large family group from grandparents to a 5 year old all participated with ease. Read about it

Ivy's Ice Cream & Deli in Christiansted, St. CroixPack the entire family for a smooth island tour in an open air safari bus.1. Open Air Island Tour.
The number one way to see the entire island and the number one activity the entire family can participate in is taking an island tour in an open air vehicle. Chosse from two different styles: four wheel jeep or open air safari bus. Chose the jeep if you are looking for something a bit more adventurous. A local tour guide can take you to all the traditional St. Croix site-seeing spots, as well as some unique, off the beaten path locations not accessible by regular vehicles. Pack a lunch, plenty of your favorite beverages, wear sunscreen and get ready for a good time. See our jeep tour photos here. Jeeps seat 4-5 but multiple jeeps can be used to accommodate all family members. (Not recommended for toddlers).

The open-air safari bus is a good option for those looking for a less bumpy ride. Sweeny Toussaint, a Danish descendent, guides you to all the terrific St. Croix landmarks while reciting history and folklore. Have lunch on the beach in Frederiksted, then take a quick dip to cool off in the Caribbean sea. This is a perfect option for larger families, and any member, regardless of age, as he can accommodate up to 25 people on one tour – just like one big happy family! Riding in a comfortable open-air safari bus is truly a relaxing way to see St. Croix. Read about our island tour with Sweeny .

Pam

I feel your pain, my co-worker is leaving for Puerto Rico in the AM and they will be in St. Thomas all next week. I told her to give us the scoop!!!! She also said phone calls to the us are subject to intl roaming but free on her "normal-cheapy" phone plan. That is really good to know!!

Bedtime stories ROCKS!!!! I haven't seen the Beverly HC I am curious, my kids have and said it was hilarious. Bolt was just - blah...sorry! I had a hard time getting into Enchanted as did my kids. :(

pixiedust: Hi.
My DH 57, me 52 & DGS 7 will also be on this cruise & I can't wait. This is my very first time posting to any thread, so please excuse my learning curve. My DH & I have been on cruises with all the other major lines but have always wanted to do Disney so decided to take our youngest grandson. He's never cruised but has been to DL & WDW with us. We live in Alberta, Canada & thinking about the cruise is the only thing that helps me survive the cold right now. Pam, I took your email from a previous post & will email you to find out more about the FE.

Hi MUMOM95
I found the theater, where the evening shows are held, to be very chilly. I have already purchased a sweater to wear each evening. I was so cold one evening I wore my husbands suit jacket. I can't remember if the movie theater was or not. Take a sweater to be safe.

My family did the Doubloon Sail and Snorkel. WE loved Billy and the captain. Everyone was very nice. Kids get to hoist up the sails. FUN!!
:joker:

We chose to do the jeep tour to the rainforest and tide pool in St. Croix. Web site had cool pictures. Tan Tan Tours I think?! :drive:

What kinds of things do you put in the fish extenders?? :confused3

Hi,

People put different things in the fish extenders. Examples are candy, stickers, toys, tattoos and even homemade crafty items. Would you like to participate?

This will be our first Disney Cruise ... can anyone tell me what a fish extender is?!?!

disneyfreak1
01-25-2009, 01:23 PM
There is a fish that is outside the stateroom door where cast members and others can leave notes for you. The fish extender is basically an organizer the people hang from it. Actually, some just use gift bags, tote bags, Christmas stockings, etc. instead of an official fish extender. Each family that signs up for the exchange leaves gifts in each other extender. The gifts can be anything from candy to homemade crafts. In our group, you can deliver gifts however many days you want. Some deliver one day, and others enjoy delivering every day. The gifts do not have to be elaborate or expensive. It's just fun to return to your cabin to see what you got! There are numerous posts on these boards regarding the fish extenders themselves, instructions to make them and gifts that people have given and received. I am coordinating the exchange for our group, so if you are interested, just let me know.

We are so excited about our Disneymoon. We are spending 3 days in WDW (Wed-Fri), then onto the 7 day Disney Magic Cruise, and then 3 days at Portofino at Universal Studios!!!! Can't wait! My FI and I are so excited.

Keep an eye out for a "Jersey" couple in their wedding ears! lol

Okay, so I must admit that I'm somewhat "amused" that if DW & I hadn't decided to push back the cruise until DD2 is going to turn 3, that we'd still be on this cruise and I'd be able to get it for half of what I originally booked it for (since it's now eligible for Florida resident rates for all cats 4-11 even though it's a Spring Break cruise)....plus have the 3-day bonus cruise thrown in for $99pp....*sigh*....guess even Disney is feeling the pinch of the economy....

Although it's still tempting to know that the cruise that would have cost us $6,445, I could book now for the same room for only $2,905, plus get the 3-day bonus cruise.....perhaps I'll have to lean on the DW....

Hope ya'll have fun w/o us (unless I can convince DW to reconsider our earlier decision due to the price break..... )

I've been reading on other threads it tends to be quite chilly. I don't wanna bring more than necessary on this trip. Maybe we'll bring blankets versus sweaters since we like to cuddle up. ;)

Do you know if the air from the ship at night tends to be cold. In the north even though it's warm the air off the water tends to be chilly.

We'll prolly be sunburnt so I'll get my fair share of chills. hee hee

60 days ya'll!! :beach:

This will be our fourth cruise on DCL. Despite being from MN, we are easily cold (yes, we are one of those families that others say we keep our thermostats set too high....). On our first cruise, we packed lots sweaters and jackets in anticipation of being cold. We ended up not using most of that.

I say bring just a few items such as light jackets, etc. just in case but you'll find that you won't need most of it......

Also.... We posted this a while back, but are most people here set with their St. Croix excursions? We are sort of at a loss.... As far as beaches go, there does not appear to be one great beach that jumps out at us (such as Orient Beach at St. Martin). The best beach appears to be the one on the west side of Buck Island. Many snorkle operators inculding the one run by DCL excursions doesn't even go to that beach (they instead just anchor off the snorkling side of Buck Island).

Just wondering if there are any great "must-dos". We are currently signed up for the Buck Island snorkle tour but as alluded, that does not give us beach time. We are also concerned about the travel time (hour drive + 45 minute boat ride each way) only to snorkle for 45-60 minutes.....

Even though my GF lives in St Croix I still haven't booked an excursion. The island is small 21 miles - I may do a snorkle trip and walk around a but shop take in the sites, pics, maybe meet her for lunch. :) Hang at the beach. I will prolly leave kids at OClub. Who knows what kinda "fun" I'll find. lol

Today is the 28th so two months from today we board the ship. Yea!! I can't wait until Sunday when I can start saying 'next month we go'!

In St. Croix, we are going to try the jeep excursion. Driving through the rain forest and stopping at the tide pools sounding like a great way to see the island. And I was glad to see an endorsement for the trip above.

As for jackets, the times we found that we needed them was if we were out on deck or on the veranda at night. But we have only been on the Wonder which does not go as far south so that may be the difference. But as long as you have one sweater/sweatshirt, you should be set. And just typing that sounds wonderful! We are from the Chicago area and if the temperatures are not in the teens, it is snowing. It has been a tough winter this year and 80 degrees sounds like heaven (but actually 40 degrees does to but we won't talk about that!!)

Hey ya'll - less than 2 months - can you tell I am excited!!! IS anyone dieting to look smokin hot in their suit or have you thrown in the towel?

I agree with you this winter has been something else. You guys have been hit worse than we have and NOW we are getting our share, 12 inches of snow in one night. This town is shutting down. I am soo over it! ready for the beach and we deserve it.

LOL

I forgot about the jeep excursion. I think I am for sure doing that one. I read online somewhere it was $119. Let me know what you guys decide to do you can PM me. Maybe we can all go together. St. Thomas must be where I was gonna be lazy. LOL

As a timeshare owner, I love it. I called my home resort and found that I can stay in a condo for cheaper than I can a hotel. I get a luxury condo 2 bedrooms, 2 bath in Orlando for less than $150 for the night. We leave at 8:30 in the AM so this will work! As owners we have access to all the amenities too, free breakfast, lunch, video games, etc.

If you area interested in staying here or want more information - let me know via pm.

We are going to stay at the Palace which is the newest, they share the waterpark with wet and wild waterpark. very close to universal. maybe even free shuttle - i forget. I think islands of adventure might be fun after a week at disney or maybe not. who knows. it's also on the bus line, no need for a car. It will take you from the resort all the way to the international drive - outlet malls. lots of great shopping, things to do, etc. along the way. :hourglass

Hey ya'll - less than 2 months - can you tell I am excited!!! IS anyone dieting to look smokin hot in their suit or have you thrown in the towel?

I've been dieting since Jan. 2nd (didn't start on the first because we had a houseful of people over and I didn't want to have to ignore all the yummy food). I've also gone to the gym and worked out every day but 3 since the 2nd. I don't think there is enough time between now and the cruise to lose enough weight to look smokin hot, but something is better than nothing. I'm using the cruise as a motivation, I want to be down 30lbs by then, and so far I'm down 10, so I'm on track.

I may have to book another cruise while I'm on board just so I have something to keep me motivated once I get back. I can see it now "Honey, we have to book this cruise it's part of my diet" :rotfl2: I'm not sure he'll fall for it, but it's worth a shot.

We didn't get as much snow as you guys, somewhere between 7-8 inches, but we got a decent amount of ice so the roads have been pretty bad. The kids have been out of school for 3 days, and we still don't know about tomorrow. I live about 10 minutes from the new IKEA and haven't even been yet. I hear it is a great store.

Hey everyone! Just came to introduce myself!! We just booked this cruise! We couldn't pass up the deal for a spring break cruise with a FL resident rate!!! We had a 3-night planned in April (w/Kids Sail Free), but 7-nights on the Magic is SO much better!!!

Our party consists of myself (Amy/39), DH (Chris/41), DD (Emily/7) and DD (Madison/almost 5). This will be our 7th DCL cruise, the most recent one being over Christmas for our 10th anniversary. I would have NEVER imagined that we'd be sailing again so soon!

I've only planned a last minute trip like this once before (and it was also a FL resident rate), so I'm used to the whole waiting/build-up thing. I can't believe that this one is in only a couple of months!!!

We're going to research excursions (since we usually end up doing the Western Caribbean ports) this weekend. Any tips?!?!?!?

Are there any group things planned for you guys?? We had such a big group for the Christmas cruise, that we had matching shirts, Fish Extender gift exchanges, ornament exchange, onboard scavenger hunt, onboard meets, etc.

Sorry that I sound SO excited, but this is so much fun!!!

Pam,
If it is not too much trouble, could you give me an idea of where we are on the count, age, sex of our FE group. I have a $10.00 off coupon at oriental trading company that is going to expire soon and I would like to us it for some FE stuff. Thanks so much for doing all this, I know I mentioned it in the beginning and I am glad someone else took it over, I was hoping for that!:flower3:

If any of you need FE information BEFORE February 28th, just let me know. I will be happy to provide it. I am a planner, so I completely understand if you need to get a jump start and know number of cabins, people, children, etc. I can provide the information in whatever format you need. I am having shoulder surgery February 17th, so I will be out of pocket for a few days then, but other than that, I'm available. I will still close out the list on the 27th and send it to all of you participating on the 28th.

Remember, even if you aren't participating in our FE exchange, we would still love to meet you at the Meet at 3:00 pm in the Promenade Lounge on Embarkation Day.

52 days and counting!!!:cheer2: I am getting really excited!

Hi Everyone,

I just booked this cruise with the Florida resident rate (switched from a week in June). It will be my husband, two daughters (12 and 14) and me.

We would be interested in participating in the fish extender - sounds fun!

The Fish Extender I ordered on Ebay came in the mail today and it looks great, better than perfect.

Now I am even more excited (if that is possible) about the cruise. I also bought some magnetic paper today and am going to work on our door magnets this weekend.

March 28th can't get here fast enough.

Too fun though! It is awesome you are surprising the girls. When do you plan to tell them?

alikat99
02-10-2009, 07:59 AM
Our plan is not to tell them until that morning. We live on the other coast of FL (St. Pete), so we're going to make the 2.5 hr drive over after dinner on Friday night. They'll both fall asleep in the car and we'll just put them into bed at the hotel. Then, we'll get up the next morning to see the Magic. Now, they knew that we were supposed to go on the Wonder for a 3-night cruise in April, so my DH wants to tell them that maybe we can go see the Magic (since we're there), but we'll have to get off before it sails. I'm not sure if we can pull that off, but we'll at least tell them that morning.

My girls are just loving the chain AND the best part is that they think that we're not cruising until late April, not late March! So, I really think that they'll be surprised!!!

So, has anyone made plans for excursions? We haven't made any plans, and I know NOTHING about these ports!!! Any suggestions for a 5 & 7 yr old??

We are doing the Dabloon cruise in St Thomas. Make sure the kids are strong swimmers if you do any of the boat based excursions. ours are 10 and 7 and swim like fish as well as snorkel so it works. I have not been but St Johns is always raved about.

We are snorkeling in both ports, the Buck Island one in St. Croix and the Dabloon in St. Thomas. My kids are 9 and 8 (she'll turn 8 the second day of the cruise).

They are both ok swimmers, not overly strong, but we snorkeled this past summer and with it being salt water (people float much easier in salt water), having flippers, and on the disney excursions they have life vests, they did just fine.

In order for everyone to have time to get fish extender gifts together, the deadline for joining in on the fun is FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27th. If you wish to join our exchange, please pm me your names (first and last), age and sex of children and stateroom number.

Also, we will meet in the Promenade Lounge on Deck 3 at 3:00 pm March 28th (embarkation day). We can meet each other and also find out if there are any stateroom # changes we need to make. If you are not participating in the fish extender exchange, you are still welcome to meet us at 3!

Hi Stephanie,

I don't have my list with me, but I believe we have around 55 - 60 people right now.

People give anything from stickers, candy, tattoos, note pads, pencils to homemade or handcrafted items. There are numerous threads on these boards with awesome ideas. It would be totally up to you as to the gifts you give.

We would love to have you join us. If you decide to, just pm me your names (including last name), ages of your children and your stateroom number.

Our group will have three young children who would, no doubt, enjoy the exchanges in the fish extenders (this was all a new concept to me until a few days ago when I began reading these forums). It sounds great.

I know that in order to participate we share our full names and the children's full names, as well as our stateroom number. How do folks feel about the safety aspect of sharing full names? I'm not criticizing...just trying to make our own decision about what is best for us. It sounds like lots of fun. Any thoughts one way or the other, from people who do participate as well as those who don't?

Thanks so much for your perspective. Can't wait to see you all on March 28th!

Usually the FE exchanges are for all the cabins. And, it really depends on what you want to do, some will have a FE gift for each person in the cabin, and some will do just one gift per cabin. It's really, really up to you! Whatever works for you and your situation!

For us, the easy part is that they know that we're going on a disney cruise, they just think it's a 3-night in April, not a 7-night in March. So, we have the countdown chain, but we'll just be leaving earlier than they think. The hardest part will be packing, but we've talked about going away for Spring Break, so we think we can explain the bags too.

nkoelr
02-21-2009, 04:16 PM
Just a note on safety issues - if you are concerned about anyone knowing your name and cabin number, you will have a slight issue the first day and last night of the cruise. Your name is on the luggage tags that Disney sends and the luggage is delivered and picked-up from outside your cabin. So if anyone wanted to know your full name, they could just take a look when they get on board.

Not sure if that makes you feel better of worse but thought I would pass that along!

I'm a teacher too (1st year) and I couldn't believe that they were offering the FL resident rates for SB week either!! We jumped on the chance, since it never happens. Our girls are small (almost 5 & 7), so we never worried about taking them out of school for vacations, but now that I'm teaching, it's a WHOLE different world.

We went from a category 5 to a category 4 room. I looked on-line and it looks like only category 4 and category 6 rooms are still available so there must have been a need for a category 5 room. Always fun to get an unexpected surprise.

And the timing couldn't have been better. We finally got rid of all of our snow and then we got hit with another 4-6 inches on Saturday. I am so ready for the warm sunshine I can't even take it. So any talk and planning for the cruise just keeps me going!!

They've started the "great cabin shuffle" for our cruise. That's my name for when categories suddenly start appearing or disappearing every few hours. We were a gty yesterday when TA called DCL, but as soon as he got back to me to ok the gty status and flipped back to DCL's line, we had an assignment.

Early this morning, there were 8,6,5, and 4 available. Now they are showing 10s and 7s also.

The good part of this is that it means we are "almost there!" I'm also happy--couldn't find flights at any decent rates, even coming days early, leaving days late, etc. (the joy of late booking!) I got smart--by driving a couple hours, I have LOTS of open flight times for less than half the cost. Sure, I'll have to pay to park the car, but will save extra night in hotel and have kiddo in school where she belongs!

Hi! We just booked this last minute Spring Break Cruise about a week ago. Glad I found this Board (I forgot it existed - I had been using the Cruise Critic board). There will be 6 of us: me, DW, DS15, DD13, DS6, and DD6. We have a Cat 6 on Deck 5, and a Cat 7 on Deck 6 (we were lucky enough to get one of the 4 Cat 7 cabins that are really a Cat 6 with a little bit of obstruction).
We are really excited. It will be our first 7-night on DCL. All other DCL cruises have been 3 or 4 night, and have been way too short. We have done longer cruises on RCCL, but we really love DCL more.

Thanks for the TR with the navigators, etc. I'm really enjoying reading them, and really looking forward to this trip!!

My wife is also a teacher here in Orlando (4th grade). We too could not believe we were able to book FL resident rates during Spring Break. We have never been able to afford a 7-day on Disney before and always had to do the 7-days on RCCL. As I am sure you know, when you are a teacher, the only times you can really cruise are during "peak" pricing times: either spring break, winter break, or summer break.

In my quest to find something to do in St. Croix with my girls, I found out some interesting information about St Croix. We're scheduled to be there on March 31st, which coincidentally, is their annual Transfer Day celebration. They celebrate the day that the Virgin Islands transferred from the Danish to the US. Kinda cool!

We got our docs & air schedule over the weekend. Because we're in Canada, Disney air was a much better deal for us than getting our own & we got a good schedule. We fly in the night before & stay at the Hyatt & only have 1 connector which is normal.

I've also been working hard on fe gifts & hope to finish this weekend as well.

Only 23 sleeps till we leave.:cheer2:

We added a day to our plans! We were already flying out on Friday, but from an airport 3 hours from home (saving $500 on flights and getting direct flight...yeah, driving for 3 hours is a pain, but it's the same time as hanging at a connecting airport). Then, DD was invited to an information session for the Disney College Program at a college which is a 2 hour drive in the RIGHT direction!

So...change of plans...instead of getting up early on Friday, dropping dog at kennel and making tracks down the highway quickly to catch flight, we will now drive 2 hours on Thursday night and attend presentation. We will spend the night at a hotel, sleep till a decent hour, get up and have breakfast...then drive an hour farther to the airport...and still arrive in Florida at the scheduled time.

OK...time to get off the computer and go think about packing!

I'm planning on packing after this weekend. We're headed to Orlando for my daughter's cheer competition, so we need our stuff for that. But, as soon as we come home, I'm going to start packing stuff away. It's still a secret for the girls, so I need to do it little by little, so they don't catch on to my "mad-last-minute-cruise" packing that I usually do the night before!!!:rotfl:

Hi everyone, there are 4 of us DH, DD(7), DS(4) and me. Sorry we missed out on the fish thing but we would love to meet at the promenade lounge at 3pm. So see you all there. Very excited. Our first Disney Cruise and I have never entered anything on a discussion board before. :woohoo:

Strep throat and the flu have been going around my kids school, so a few days ago I said to my kids "if you are going to get sick, do it now". And guess what, yep, just got back from the doctors and my daughter has strep throat (plus some kind of a cold virus he thinks).

Luckily we have enough time for her to get better.

Oh, and we got the call, my dh got out of jury duty (he was assigned jury duty the week of the cruise).

Welcome, Welcome!! Your kids are the same ages as mine, except both of mine are DDs (and youngest DD is turning 5 next month). Welcome to the DISboards. Watch out, because they are VERY addicting (and so is DCL).

Can't wait to meet you!!!

We'll certainly be ready for this cruise with the awful weather we've been having. Next week is supposed to be really cold as well.

When are you flying out & with who?
We're out at 8:40AM on Friday with AC.

A thought....each of the WDW resorts has one or more laundry rooms...usually located near the pool. I do all my laundry either the night before or the morning we leave for the cruise. That way I only have to pack half as much and I get on the ship with everything clean. I also pack a "cruise only" suitcase of things (like formal clothes) that I know I won't need at WDW. It doesn't even have to be opened while at the parks.

I'm becoming afraid....very afraid....we are flying and I was trying to make this a "one suitcase for each" trip. DD started trying things on today. "This would be good for semi-formal night...and this would be good for formal night." I pointed out that both would be good choices because they were essentially "wrinkle free" dresses. "But mom, I want a more fancy dress for formal night." That darned prom-type dress with the built in tulle slip, etc. would take a whole suitcase all by itself!

Yesterday my dd(7) and I went shopping for her for the cruise (she has outgrown almost all of her summer stuff from last year). And while we were out, we bought her the most beautiful dress for formal night. It's much more formal than I originally expected to buy, but she looked so pretty in I just couldn't say no. I got it at JCPenny, and it was on sale, plus I had an extra 20% off, so it was only $34 when it was all said and done, which isn't bad at all. The only bad thing is that this is probably the only time she will wear it. It's too formal for church (even Easter), and she'll probably outgrow it by the time she needs another formal. Oh well, I plan on getting lots of pictures of her in it.

I also finished up my magnets last night, and finally decided what I'm going to do for my FE exchange. Three more weeks, I may actually get it all done before then :thumbsup2

But she'll be a princess in it...and she can wear it for both formal and semi-formal nights.

My teen has informed me that she intends to "pack light" so that she can take the prom dress. She has other "smashable" things that would be great, but this is big, poofy, etc. Groan. At least we're on Southwest. We could end up with a garment bag just for the dress.

Our family is not going to be dressing formally, mostly in part due to luggage restrictions.

I have to save room for all the fish extender stuff to take! ;)

We will be on the dressy side but no jacket or tie for the guys & dress pants & fancy blouse for me. I know this has been the topic of many threads but we just decided we wanted to keep it to one suitcase each & just can't fit in suit jackets, so I'm also dresssing down a little.

It is -30 + here now with windchill & supposed to warm up by the end of the week, so knowing we'll be in shorts & sandals soon is all that's keeping me going.

I finished making all the crafty parts of my fe, so now just have to organize everything. We booked over a year ago & now I'm scrambling to find time to get ready.

Hey gang--I found a new Budget rental car code that got me $6 off the previous lowest rate I could find for our cruise.....

It is Z959200 and requires that you be a Choice Privileges member. No biggie--that's a free on line sign up. You've got to be careful with these codes...one gave me the best rate on the way to the port and a different one gave me the best rate on the way back!

ALso...in the fine print....Budget is now charging $13.99 "fill up" fee on all rentals of less than 75 miles. You can get it refunded if you return the car with a full tank AND show a receipt to prove that you bought gas.

If it were totally MY choice, I wouldn't be doing the formal bit. Since DD wants to go formal, I'll go dressy...but it must be able to smash into my suitcase!
