another gratuity charge comment

As I understand it CSR has a 10% gratuity charge at the food court. Guests are seated, food ordered and served. Is this right..in a food court?

At AKL the food court is Mara. After looking at the selections a CM comes over and takes your food order. He/she doesn't seat you. You then proceed to the cashier with your order slip and anything else you pick up like juice, salad, beer etc. The cashier charges you and gives you a number thingy that you put on your table. When your order is ready a server looks for your number and brings your food to you.

I don't think we were charged a gratuity for that. I may be wrong (sure wasn't looking for it) and would like to hear if anyone recently staying at AKL noticed a gratuity charged applied to their bill.

At CSR, you pickup your food at each of the stations. You sit down (they seat you when you come in) and the waiter brings your drink. I think they also have regular dishes & silverware. They clean-up after you. You get a card when you go in and at each station they mark what you got. You pay on the way out at a cash register, that's where they add the 10%. They don't add it for take-out, you have to get your own drink.

There is not graturity added to the bill at Mara at the AKL. We were there in May and Sept of 2001.
