We will be tipping $1 per person when we go in December...$4 a day....don't forget to print out your mouseeping envelopes...I believe it may be the TIP board that has a current theme about this!!

We tip $1 per day per person. So, a $3 tip for the 3 of us. Although, on our trip in May we are staying at the YC concierge and I'm thinking I may tip alittle more.

We travel with just 2 people, and we tip about $2-$4/day, depending on the mess and how many 1's I have.

This past trip I tipped $5 per day. That was for me, my neice and my nephew.

Monte....I would tip per day as different "mousekeepers" may be attending to your room each day.
The perks of course are that you will find little surprises on a daily basis...and the ethic is that Disney most likely does not treat their employees as "magically" as they do their guests.

One other reminder re tipping housekeeping....please leave your tip in an envelope CLEARLY marked for the housekeeping staff. You certainly don't want to lay a few dollars on a table and assume that housekeeping will know that this is their tip...I understand that they are really not permitted to disturb articles on bedside tables, armiores, etc...as these are considered "personal items"
Leave it in the bathroom or by the sink area....again...CLEARLY marked for housekeeping.

Jinnyboom made some good points, there is just one other thing I wanted to add. You MAY find some special treats done for you as a result of leaving a tip, but there's no guarantee. We left daily tips at PORiverside, had a wonderful housekeeper that made coming back to our room each day a treat. We left daily tips at the All Stars (same trip) and never had anything special done. Have a wonderful time!!!

I tip $1 per day per person. I have found that if you leave the tip on the bed pillows the mousekeepers always take it.

we tip $5 per day...there's the 2 of us...both adults (depending who you ask)....We've gotten some some "extras"..... Have fun!!...we leave disney dollars in "printed evelops" if that helps!

When all four of us go, we usually tip $5 a day. When it is just my wife and I, $2 or $3 a day. I think the $1 per person rule works pretty well!

We tip daily - five of us in our family for good service $5 per day. One trip we had a lousy housekeeper who couldn't even tuck the sheets in correctly or clean the bathroom. She got nothing more after the first day and service never improved. If they go above and beyond the call of duty like on our first trip we leave more. I also left candy for her and she gave us a Disney frame at the end of our stay. On our September trip two weeks after 9/11- I brought an extra flag ribbon pin for the housekeeper as well as her tip. She was excellent also.

Ok, you tip $1.00, or $2.00 per day for a daily service, but on checkout day how much do you leave? I'm assuming it's quite a bit more, since the housekeepers have to clean everything. Is $15.00 - $20.00 acceptable?

monte - I do not tip differently on the last day. I tip the same every day. Generally I tip $2 per person per day (it is more than the recommended - but I want to). With my family of three that works to $6 a day.

For a family of 3 we tip 5.00 for the daytime mousekeeper and 5.00 for the turndown service. It's so nice to walk into the room after the day maid has left, shower and just have everything messy again, to leave for the night and come back to clean towels again and the bed turndowned, etc... We had great service at the CR and when I asked for a few pens, she left a whole bag!
Make sure to put the tip on the pillow or somewhere in the bathroom. The first night I left the envelope on the TV, clearly labled for the maid, and she didn't take it. After that, I put it on the pillow and it was fine.
I also budget this out before we leave. I print up my envelopes and put a 5.00 bill in each one. Then I pack them in my luggage. This way when I get there all I have to do is pull out an envelope, and leave it. I don't have to waste time looking for a few bucks. It's already done!

$0 We never tip housekeeping staff. We expect the room to be cleaned for the price of staying at the hotel, whether it's a Ritz Carlton or a Motel 6.

Here goes another tip debate...

We usually tip $3 to $5 a day for two people. While we do expect our room to be clean each day for the price we pay to stay, we also realize that this is hard work and a little extra will help bring a smile to the housekeepers face.

In fact, I once tipped $5 for the housekeeper to NOT clean the room. I just got a new batch of towels from here and took a nap. :)

DW and I tip $5 per day and leave the tip on the bed pillow. We stay at deluxe hotels(WL, GF, AKL, BWI) and feel that this tip is reasonable for the people doing a hard job that most of us wouldn't do. I would rather tip a person that is working and doing a good job, than pay taxes for able-bodied bums, on welfare.

We always tip our mousekeeper (works out to the $1/person) -- we don't leave anything extra at the end of our stay since it's very possible that the person cleaning on the last day might not be the person who worked so hard for you during your stay.

I know that tipping isn't "necessary" -- we will get great service regardless... BUT I have never been greeted so pleasantly each morning or had the housekeeping staff take the time to be so kind to my children at ANY hotels/resorts other than at WDW!! :D I like to show my appreciation when someone goes above and beyond the ordinary.

A housekeeper will take the tip if it is left on the pillow of the unmade bed. It has never failed for me. This is an accepted practice for housekeepers.

I tip if I am requiring them to go above and beyond. If the housekeeper has to move a lot of our toiletries in order to clean properly, or if we've left a mess that's out of the ordinary, I'll leave a tip. I interrupted a housekeeper in the hallway during our last trip and asked for extra towels, she went and got them immdiately and I handed her a tip. I don't agree that housekeepers deserve a tip for merely doing their job. If we follow this logic out then we would be tipping everyone we see. Wouldn't the person working on the landscaping outside your room deserve a tip also? That person is probably making the very minimum that they can pay a lawnmower plus he's working out in the heat. Do you tip the CM that checks you in at the front desk? I just don't agree that tipping is NECESSARY for a normal, required service. Valets and baggage handlers, IMO, are different in that they are not providing a service that you've already paid for, (I've already paid for housekeeping, inluded in my room charge), and should be tipped.

. We do ask housekeeping to make-up our room before noon, which I appreciate. We like to come back for a nap in the afternoon and don't want to wait for the room to be cleaned.
I don't feel like anyone has to tip housekeeping, but we do chose to tip $5 a day.

I don't know what you earn an hour but housekeeper's don't earn "squat" My wife had to take a housekeeping job a few years ago but it was only temporary. They work hard for peanuts, and deserve a DECENT tip.
To answer the orig. question I tip 5to7 a day for 2 of us, and have recieved several nice thank you notes...:smooth: :smooth: :smooth:

for all the work that goes into straightening up, cleaning, and pampering, we often leave $5. per day also. Never once have we come back to a disheveled room, and for the hotel prices we shouldn't, but it's all those nice little touches that housekeeping often leaves that make us appreciate their work. We have used the envelopes a number of times and nearly always receive a nice note thanking us. So happy to see that others do too. Hats off to the housekeeping staffs!!!

Tipping is important! These people "probably" make minimum wage or slightly above. Just becasue your paying a high price for the rooms does NOT mean that the Mousekeepers see any of that money. In some cases, economy being what it is, this may be the only job some people can get and they need to support "families".

We usually tip $3-5 per day. But the looks on my childrens faces when they see the "little" things that the mousekeepers did with their stuffed animals was priceless. Once I left a note to kindly ask for some ice to be put into our ice bucket for when we returned in the afternoon and it was done. That's above "doing their job".

The rate we pay to stay at includes EVERYTHING in the operation of the resort. This includes the housekeeping, bell services, and the people at the front desk, among other things. To use the logic that they are already paid for their service when we pay for our room, we should not tip anyone. That may be fine for some but I am all for going with "tradition" in this case and I will tip housekeeping, just like I would tip Bell Services. I do not tip the person who checks me in, but that is typically not done.

One exception I made for my rule is at AKL this past November. We ordered from room service. We noticed that on the menu, it stated that a certain percentage gratuity and a delivery charge would be added to our bill. The gratuity plus delivery charge would have been just about what I would have tipped anyway, so I chose not to tip. The delivery person was in and out so quickly that it did not appear that they expected a tip.

We do tip $5 dollars a day to "mouse keeping". I prepare the envelopes at home before we leave. I enjoy decorating them with stickers, diecuts and confetti. Its something that I enjoy doing and it gets me in the "Disney mood".

This got me to thinking...there are several non-Disney resorts that DH and I frequest, and two out of three have a "housekeeping gratuity" automatically added on to your room rate daily. You are told about it when you book. My guess is that these resorts are paying less than minimum wage to housekeepers, which is permissable under Federal Law if the position is one that regularly would be tipped. (Like restaurant servers)

The resorts are always spotlessly cleaned, and graciously serviced, so I don't mind having $3 per day tacked on. I just wish that instead they would just charge $3 per day more for the room in the regular rate and pay the housekeepers that much more. But again, I'm sure it has to do with wage Laws and tax implications.

I guess you could have a major debate... waitresses.only bring you your food. Housekeepers only clean your room.To me, everyone is doing me a service, and they all need the money like everyone else. I personally could not survive on less than minimum wage, and if people didn't tip for these services we wouldn't have any one doing these jobs, and therefore wouldn't have these services. In my opinion, ANYONE who cleans TOILETS for a living deserves to be tipped!
