It seems that I have read on the Bios thread and elsewhere that there are a lot of WISHers who are turning 40 this year. Well, I am too! I am a newbie to WISH and to running. I thought I would see how many of us are going to be celebrating this year. :cheer2:

In honor of my birthday, I convinced my husband to let me and my daughter (9) go to Disney and run the 5K by ourselves, a GIRLS ONLY trip. We had a marvelous time and met A LOT of you folks. You were all so welcoming to me and my daughter at the Pop meet. I just feel so bad that I didn't "know" y'all from the boards before we came. :sad2: I want a do over! :rotfl:

Here's my story, hope it doesn't bore you :rolleyes1 :

I have only been running since August of last year. I ran my first 5K two weeks after starting my Couch to 5K running plan. :scared1: I ran with a really good friend of mine from church. I finished my first 5K in 37:42. I ran 80% of the way. Now listen, I have had natural childbirth, and that race was so much HARDER! :scared: Fast forward to October, I run my second 5K with dd (training for Jan.). We did it in 47:30. Not bad, just need to shave off a couple of minutes. Well, that night, due to a freak accident, I injured my knee. My son went to a Halloween party, and I ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. His hockey coach was horsing around with his nephew, and they both ended up tumbling on top of me, and landing on my knee! :scared1: Now their combined weight is probably 350-400 lbs. Well, that sidelined me for quite a while. Went to the Ortho. dr. and he said everything was fine, just the beginning of some arthritis in that knee. He gave me some stretches to do, and then told me I could run in Disney. We ended up walking most of the 5K because dd was feeling sick to her stomach, and was saying she was gonna puke all the way around the parking lot of the 5K. Sorry to all of those of you that were behind us and had to pass us. :rolleyes1 I decided we just needed to hold hands and enjoy our time together. If we got swept, then so be it! Well, we didn't get swept, and we had a marvelous time. Here is our pic from the ASI website:http://www.asiorders.com/view_user_photo.asp?EVENTID=25143&ID=45610873&FROM=photos&BIB=2883

We couldn't have done it without all of your support. You still continue to make me a better and healthier person. I plan to embrace this new decade of my life, and pray for many more to come! Please come say HI, and tell me what your plans are for this year. Remember you aren't turning 40 alone, there are several of us doing it together! :grouphug:

I will be 40 in April. I decided last year that I wanted to train this year for the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon as a celebration of turning 40. I just started following the Marathoning for Mortals in January. I have a 5k to do in April (the week before my birthday) at Knott's Berry Farm and then the 1/2 at Disneyland.

I still need to lose about 40lbs, but I have managed to take off about 60lbs since Sept 2006.

I also have a bit of arthritis in the knees. I went and saw a sport's medicine Dr. and he gave me exercises to do. Of course he said the best thing I could do is lose more weight (thanks for that:rotfl:).

Sorry for your knee problems, and Congrats on your races:cheer2:

Michelle - My birthday is in April too! :cool1: :yay: Those exercises will do wonders for your knees. I have been trying to do them faithfully, and my knee didn't bother me at all this weekend when I did my two mile run. Just keep it up!

Oh and Happy Birthday!!! :bday:

Maria - Thanks for coming to the party! party: Hope you have a great one in June! :bday:

Allie, I'm another turning-40 in April b-day gal! My bio (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=22853683&postcount=35) is on the WISH thread!

I actually decided to do the Goofy to help celebrate my DH's turning 40yo last year. He didn't do all the events he wanted, though, so we're extending his celebration for another year to overlap with mine. I'm not sure what I have planned yet, except the 2009 marathon!

Remember your best years are your 50s and sixties so y'all have away's to go yet before you get in your prime.

I don't remember much about my 40th birthday except for the surprise party that the Comptroller throw for me. He closed the door's and let the whole squadron off for the party. We had it at the Hard Rock Cafe in Vegas and the UNLV cheerleaders sang happy birthday. When I returned to my office after the party the squadron was decorated with black balloons that said "Over the Hill". I had a cake waiting there with a icing social security check on it.

I have to admit that 40 was my hardest age to accept, 50 was hard also and I suppose 60 will get my attention. But I'm finding that I don't have to slow down and it's really just a state of mind.

Debra, I remember reading your bio, and thinking wow someone else is turning 40! Also, your avatar makes me laugh everytime I see it. I think of see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. :rotfl2: Well I think the 2009 marathon is quite a celebration! :cheer2: Good luck! :thumbsup2

Timeless Panda - You are most welcome to join our celebration! If it wasn't for you dreaming up this wonderful competition, I wouldn't be out there pushing myself to run a 10K in May. :worship: Now I may be doing one in March. Thanks! I still feel like I'm that 18 year old in high school. Age is in the mind, and since my mind is going, it can't remember how old I am anyway. :rotfl2:

Amy - You get to wait til the LAST minute this year! ;) Wow I feel silly for celebrating with a 5K. I am in awe that anybody can do the Goofy! My daughter and I tried to congratulate everybody we saw with a medal around their neck on Saturday and Sunday. That is something to be truly proud of! :cool2:

Happy 40's everyone! I turned last May and 40 is GREAT!

Jill - Welcome fellow Buzzer! I am lucky that my best friend in the whole world has the very same birthday as me. We will do it together this year. I am embracing the new decade. It is time for the new healthier me, so watch out! :woohoo:

Oh Sandy, you know I didn't do this to make you feel bad. You are so NOT old. Remember it is just a number. You are what you think you are. Remember I think I'm still 18. :rolleyes1 You are the best friend a girl could have, and I'm glad your my RL friend. I'll help you celebrate next year. Hey you have a kid getting married! That is something to be proud about. :cool2: BTW, I went and dusted off and cleaned up your TR. :rolleyes1

Hey gang, add mee to the list as well! I turn 40 in May. To celebrate my college friends and I are running the Indianapolis 500 Mini Marathon (1/2). Should be fun. I was never a "runner" with them, but several of them were. Disney 1/2 was really my first and my friend will do Indy as her first, but 4 others have done marathons before. I'm amazed how many of us are hitting this landmark this year!! GO US!!

Can I join the list too? I'm a newbie WISHer and a newbie runner (I've only been running for a little over a month now), so I'm still trying to read all of the posts and figure out who is who. There's so much to read here that it gets a little overwhelming, but I'm glad to have found the WISH team - you guys are great! :thumbsup2 I can't believe there are so many of us turning 40 this year. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone!

My DH & I will both turn 40 this summer. My b-day is in June and his is in July (yes - I like younger men :rotfl: ). We've decided to run the Disney full marathon in '09 to celebrate our birthdays. Since I'm new at this whole running thing, I'm a little nervous :scared1: , but I'm sure I can do it. I have lots of time to train, thank goodness.

I'm not thrilled about turning 40, but since I have no choice in the matter I'm trying to focus on how young I feel instead of how old I am. :goodvibes

I'm SO glad you said that. It is a reference to see no evil. It's a family joke. Whenever DH and I ride Disney rides where pics are taken, we do "see no evil, hear no evil." So at Tower of Terror, when you see the snapshot, there are two people posing for the camera. (We always try to get the person next to us to do "speak no evil," with limited success. Party poopers.) DH was supposed to remember to do "hear no evil" for his Goofy pic, but forgot. He was wiped after the race, I guess. (See what happens when you actually have a time goal?)

Sounds like we need to have an OVER THE HILL/40 YO B-DAY PARTY AT POP this year!!! :)

We really do need to have a big shin-dig! And invite all our WISH friends. Maybe in January 2009? You think anyone would come? :rotfl2:

No over the hill parties...you are just starting up the hill. The stuff before this has all been fluff. I ran my first 5K 2 weeks before I turned 40 and last year I ran the ToT on my 41st birthday. I feel better than ever. I will be 42 in October. I dreaded turning 40 because it made me feel old but being as active as I am and becoming more so every day, I feel and look better than my younger years. I certainly have way more self-esteem. For my 42nd birthday...the MDI Marathon in Maine 12 days prior.

Go 40 girls!!!! :cool1:

I turn 40 "again" this March. I ran my first marathon at 40. Also my first 10k and my first half marathon. 40 is not so bad considering the alternative.

40 was tough for me. On my 20th birthday, I was in the hospital facing not having a birthday so I didn't think much of it. On my 30th birthday, I was 7 months pregnant with my first child so it was a complete after thought.

Then 40 came along. 3 months after major surgery, so I completely out of shape. Not only out of shape but I had had weeks and weeks to sit around and contemplate the whole idea of turning 40. It was not pleasant.

Now that I have been here a while, I don't mind a bit. My favorite thing is when younger runners find out my age. They always do such an amazing job of acting surprised.

I hit the big 4-0, 2 days after running the Goofy this year, so I guess I am the old guy in this group! The good thing was that I was home on R&R leave from Iraq, surrounded by family and friends, and eating as much as I could at O'Hanas at the Polynesian. Nothing like a birthday at Disney to take your mind off of getting older, let alone turning 40.
I will celebrate the last weeks of my 40th year in 2009 by running the Goofy again - and like others I have seen post on this thread, I will be doing it for time this year, but I still intend to have a little fun!

I was pregnant when I turned 30 too, so it was such a non issue with me. And really, I'm not having too much trouble with this one either. Like you said, I'm glad to celebrating another birthday because the alternative isn't that great. Glad you are with us and doing so well! Maybe someday I'll get to meet you while doing the Peachtree. Wow! What a way to celebrate 40! Doing the Goofy! :faint:

My dd and I tried to congratulate every person we saw wearing a Goofy medal. I told her that those people deserved as many congratulations as they could get. She couldn't understand why we would congratulate people we didn't know. :confused3 I explained to her how much running those people had done. Then she started spotting them faster than I could. Thanks for all you do for our country too! :thumbsup2

Thanks for stopping in Diane! Yes we are NOT going over the hill, we are just journeying along. ;)

I have to share something I read today. Now it was on a wrapper of a Dove chocolate that one of my precious preschool children gave me for a Valentime's present. It said, "Age is nothing but a number." Can I get an AMEN?!!! Who knew a Dove wrapper could be so insightful. :confused3 :rotfl: It is just that a number, and we are going to celebrate it in style! :cool2: I'm glad you are all here to celebrate with me! :grouphug:

I am going to joun in the party. I will be 40 on 07/19.

So far, not a biggie...but I am hoping to finish my first 1/2 marathon ever this year, which shows that this is definately a new beginning for me.

The only birthday that has ever bothered me even slightly was 26. I found my first grey hair that day. Seems pretty insignificant now. :rotfl:

I turn 40 on June 22nd. I think turning 39 was harder for me. Last year my birthday sucked!! I was told the day before it my biopsy was inconclusive and i would need another one to determine if it was cancer. The good news it wasnt! So my 40th should be alot better. I changed my life alot after my 39th so i am healthier physically and mentally.

Wondering if it would be okay to join you? I'm not 40 in 2008 but turning 40 in June of 2009.

I'd been thinking about running a marathon for a long time. I used to work for a company that sponsored the Ironman Canada in Penticton, BC. I would see the athletes, all shapes and sizes with such wonderful stories cross the finish line and it was always so inspiring. Although I couldn't imagine a triathlon. I thought, "I want that. I want to cross a finish line. I want to run a marathon". I'd tried time and again to get into and maintain running with little long term success.

Then my SIL and I joined a local running clinic together. My SIL said she wanted to complete a marathon by the time she was 40. I am 4 years younger but thought "me too, what a great idea," something I could aspire to. She was coming off chemo after a second battle with breast cancer. Unfortunately her health deteriorated and she passed away just shortly after her 41st birthday in Sept of 2006.

I picked up running yet again in Sept 2007 just a year after my SIL passed away. I wondered what could keep me motivated to really stick with it this time. I love running and NEED it for my mental and physical well being. The marathon goal sprung up in my thoughts again. I kept playing it over and over then realized I better stop thinking and start doing. I'm NOT getting any younger.

Then I thought wouldn't it be great to pick up where my SIL left off. I could run as a tribute to her  and realize a personal goal :thumbsup2 if I complete a marathon before I'm 40. I looked around and Disney just seemed the perfect venue for my 1st marathon, although quickly approaching. I better get my butt in gear and train for this sucker.

Is it weird that I'm only 38 and I'm already planning for turning 40? :woohoo:

:woohoo:

Welcome to the club--I think it's great that you're planning on celebrating your 40th & remembering your SIL in such a special way. ITA--there's no better place for a 1st marathon than WDW! :cloud9:

And I don't think you're weird at all. I started celebrating my 40th when my DH turned 40; this year, I turn 40 & the party continues. And I think I'll try to make it last the whole year!

Well, since this has stretched into 2009...

I will be turning 40 on July 1, 2009. That milestone weighs heavily into my goal to run the marathon in 2010. I want to be able to run a marathon at 40.

DH (turned 40 in 2006) and I have decided to become healthier, and have started running at the beginning of February. We purchased a treadmill (which we  ), and will be signing up for the Expedition Everest Challenge this fall. Not sure if DH will be doing anything other than cheering at the 2010 marathon, but he might do the half. If he's really excited about the full by then, I'm sure we could bring more support people to watch our kids on that day. He doesn't need to decide for a year though, so we'll wait and see what happens.

Great plan for celebrating your 40th with the 2010 marathon! I'll be there for the Goofy, hopefully wiser but definitely older! :lmao: Also, it's cool that you're doing the EE Challenge. :woohoo:

I turn next week (March 8th). I didn't run a full marathon but a half before I turned 40. I'm doing the full in 2009. I guess my next goal is Goofy before 45! They have a danskin women's mini tri in June. I want to compete but i can't really swim. I mean I can stay up and get through the water, but not swim with any technique whatsoevery.

Have a great day everyone!

I wish someone would have told me before I started running that this marathon thing could be so addicting.

Texa - Happy Birthday next week! :cake: :bday: party: You can report back next week what it "feels" like.

I know 40 is gonna be great for me. It is a whole new era of my life. I just took my blood pressure and it was 101/68 and my pulse was 88. I was absolutely thrilled! I only had true HBP problems when I was pregnant, and after delivery, with my kids. I think I am at a higher risk of developing it because of that, but I am determined to keep it at bay as long as possible.

My friend that got me started told me that I would get addicted, and I just laughed at her, but she was SO right. Glad you stopped in to say hi!

Mel - Yes we did that. I left my car (which was a '67 Ford Grand Torino that was white with a lime green tint - guess that was foretelling of my DIS future :rotfl: ) to a girl in the Junior class 'cause she always called my car the "fossil" and we always teased that it ran on "fossil fuel". :lmao: It was a heavy duty car though, and boy could it haul butt, not that I knew that from experience or anything. ;) :rolleyes1 It had no A/C and only an AM radio. Boy my son would DIE if he had to drive something like that now. He is getting his learner's permit this week, and I think he is thinking that a car is just going to magically appear in our driveway. pixiedust: Unfortunately, he is sadly mistaken. He's gonna have to learn how to drive mama's Tahoe. Yeah now that's a really cool car for a boy, huh? :cool2: :lmao:

Okay Allie, (and Diane),

You asked for it! But before I go on to my story, Allie--a GOOSE? No, I can't top that one. But see #4, below.

I had an incredible time for my 40th birthday, and I highly recommend spending the big one, or any birthday, at Disney. I wore my button every day, not to try to score any free swag, but I so loved getting the well wishes from everyone. My favorite spontaneous moments included these:

A CM named Judy, working in the MK, noticed my button and asked me if anyone had sung Happy Birthday to me. I said no, and she immediately took me to her register area, where she phoned up Goofy. It turns out he's been "looking for me" all day. When she handed the phone over to me, he sang Happy Birthday.
Two CMs in DHS stopped to wish me Happy Birthday in the rain. I said I'd stand there in the rain until they sang to me. They sang me this very witty song, but not Happy Birthday. (It was sort of sarcastic, but hilarious!)
A young girl (tween) went out of her way to wish me a Happy Birthday...just because I was sitting alone at that moment.
On my birthday proper, a big black bird flew into my room, walked around, and apparently approved of everything because it flew away before I started to panic.

Now on to the big stuff about the surprise weekend. DOOD planned everything very well, remembering all the little details about what I loved about Disney & worked his own special brand of PD. pixiedust:

For instance, DOOD knew I'd been longing to stay at the Poly for a long time. So he made several phone calls before finally scoring a room (and we were upgraded as a birthday treat). What a great view! He made ADRs at restaurants that had sentimental meaning to us, including Rose & Crown and Crystal Palace. He also made sure I had a character breakfast at Ohana, so I could get a "team" photo. :cloud9: DOOD also took care of the arrangements for dinner with my college friends. We ate at Kona Cafe, so that we could hang out at the resort without worrying about getting home (and so my friends could be jealous, as they pointed out. :lmao:) That evening was low-key and relaxing, which represented the entire trip. We didn't go tour commando, but stopped & smelled the roses--quite literally, as we went to the Flower & Garden Show. Because we were taking it easy, I got to see DeVine for the first time, too! And I didn't even care that most of the weekend was rainy.

And then he absolutely spoiled me with the presents! I thought the trip was the present, or the APs that he upgraded us to because he's agreed we should do the ToT race. But noooooo, that was just the setting. He had two presents for me waiting at home. The first was a Disney t-shirt covered in all the pins we'd collected from our trips together; it will form the backdrop to the shadowbox he bought to create a memory of the trip. The second present was two original production drawings from Trader Mickey (1932), one of the early cartoons with a non-PC Mickey. (For some reason, I've always loved the production drawings more than the cells.)

Best of all, we spent time together--undistracted by work, household obligations, or even our cats. It provided us with some much-appreciated, maybe even needed "couple" time.

The whole trip made me feel very loved & that my birthday was reason for celebration. Now, you all know that's the way I feel about my birthday, but it's nice to know DOOD feels the same way. You can just see how happy I am by the pics I'm posting, with two of my favorite guys in the whole world. Not one of DOOD, but he's shy about my posting pics of him. :upsidedow

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b109/deekaypee/CIMG1213.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b109/deekaypee/CIMG1223.jpg

A SPECIAL NOTE TO MY ALSO-TURNING-40 WISHERS
I just want you all to know that turning 40 can be a great thing. :woohoo: Not because of the special attention, the trips, or the presents--not that I turned my nose up at any of those--but because I feel really good about who I am at 40. I know myself better, I'm more open to new experiences, and less concerned with failure or what others may think. I'm learning to challenge myself, thanks to the support of loved ones and my WISHmates. It's a great time to be me & to be 40--and I hope you all have similar feelings when it comes to your special birthdays. And know I'll be thinking of you this year and will want to hear your stories!!!!

Thanks for sharing Debra! I wonder what the significance of us both having incidents with members of the bird family mean? :confused3 Must mean GREAT things are going to happen to us.

It sounds like DOOD really spoiled you. My DH is not a Disney lover either, and I know that it took a lot for your DOOD to plan all of that for you. And for all of it to have a meaning behind it. Very thoughtful, and loving. You look like you are having a great time in those pics. :cool1:

I can't wait to enter this new decade. I am celebrating by running a 5K next Saturday in my new age bracket. ;) :thumbsup2

Thanks for sharing your trip with us. I'm afraid I don't have any big plans at least none that I know of. ;) Although, my sister did call and ask to speak to my husband today about my birthday. :confused3 Hey but I did get a new windshield for my birthday! ;) :cool2: :lmao: I've got to count my blessings.

Hi everyone!

Debra-It sounds like you had a wonderful birthday. Thanks for sharing.

Allie-Nice gift. I ordered myself a Garmin for my birthday, but I ordered the 101 (I think) because I am really bad at ordering gadgets and not using them. So I figured I try it with the cheaper one first.:rotfl:

My birthday is this Sunday but I started celebrating last weekend. I did the
5K at Knott's Berry Farm and spent the night in the hotel there with my best friend. My SIL brought my niece and nephew to meet up with us and go into the park for a few hours. Then my brother met us for an early dinner. It was hot this weekend. It reached about 99 both the day before and the day of the 5K. I think it was about 80 at race time. I managed about a 14:21 pace even with the shin splints. Now if I can maintain that for 13.1 miles, I'll be good for the Disneyland 1/2:banana:

Allie: Ooooh, a Garmin. I love it, and it's so pretty. I bet your new toy will make you run farther, faster, better! What a great gift!

Michelle: And what a way to celebrate your birthday, by doing a race, hanging with your BF (I can't add the extra F, sorry!), and meeting up with family. I think your pace bodes very well for the DL 1/2, which I'm very envious that you get to do--I love DL!

Debra you are absolutely GLOWING! You do look very very happy :goodvibes That is great that you and DOOD are going back for the TOT race too. Sounds like there will be a good turn out of the group. I keep sneaking peeks at the air but am currently commited to the Exp Everest weekend since DH thought it sounds like fun. His 1st Disney race so it will be fun.

Allie and Michelle!!!! The big weekend is almost here!!!! Allie celebrate with a 5K PR!!!! And I love the Garmin! I have the 100 and am looking to upgrade so I will have a better signal. I'm tired of waiting on it especially after a few cold nights and freezing days. I want to run not wait on my gps anymore. DH is coming around but I bought another pair of shoes (new balance!) and so the garmin is on the back burner till after Minnie. But Michelle 100 or 101 it's still the best knowing the distance you did and the pace. I'd buy it again if I were just starting. Going to eventually give it to my Mom since she is doing the 5Ks.

Debra so glad you had a such a fantastic weekend! Can't wait for Marathon Weekend to see you all and celebrate the entire weekend. WISHing you were all able to be there for Minnie but know you will be in Spirit :goodvibes

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! Y'all are the BEST!!! :grouphug:

I had a wonderful birthday. All my coworkers wore black, as I knew they would since I had done the same for several of them previously:rolleyes1 , so I wore my DIS green! :cool2: Figured I needed to add some color to the place. :rotfl2: Anyway, one of the preschool teachers I help brought in yummy banana muffins for our breakfast treat. They had treated me to lunch and a yummy chocolate dessert the day before. At my preschool, we believe in celebrating multiple days. ;) I was able to take the leftovers home. I was looking forward to those muffins this morning before my race, BUT while I was on the phone Friday afternoon, I heard my dog's tags jingling. I went to see what was going on and my two dogs had gotten the yummy muffins off the counter, and had eaten 4 1/2 of the 5 muffins. :scared1: Oh, well what can ya' do? :confused3

We met our friends for dinner at a Japanese steakhouse. She is my best friend and we both turned 40 yesterday! It was the best! We had a great time visiting, and the chef was good and entertaining. My family and I came home and they had gotten me a lovely cookie cake.

Now, a side note about my birthdays and cookie cakes......Shadow my border collie mix ate 1/4 of one of my cookie cake two years ago. Yes, I'm sure she is the one who also got the muffins off the counter since she is the bigger one.

So the cookie cake was secured this year. :thumbsup2 Although, I couldn't eat any after eating at the steakhouse. Probably not the best pre-race dinner, but it WAS my birthday. ;)

I got up this morning and got to the race early. I always worry about finding the parking, etc. I also wanted to sign up for the 1 mile fun run in addition to my 5K. It adds to my teams miles. :goodvibes So, everything was going well. I had drunk a water bottle while walking around, and decided I better go potty before the race. Well, there were nice facilities in the Family Life Center of the church that was sponsoring the race, so I go in to the potty. I had to untie my shorts, and by this point I REALLY had to go. I sit down, AND my cell phone and holder fall into the toilet! :scared1: Well, I did what I had to do, and reached in there and saved my phone. :scared: Luckily, I had not started going yet. :upsidedow Sorry if that is TMI. Anyway, I took care of business, then hurriedly dried off the phone and battery. I got out to the sink area and tried to dry it off some more. It still had a screen and all my information seemed to be fine. (remember that for later in the story)

I went out and got ready to get in line for the race. I found a guy who I recognized from our local Fleet Feet, and asked him how I set the Garmin to track my split times. He had to hurry off and change, but his friend came over and showed me how to set it up. :thumbsup2 I was all set.

The course had a hill at the beginning, but after that it was relatively flat. It was in a beautiful tree lined neighborhood, but my Garmin had no trouble at all. It was a lovely setting for the race. Even some of the neighbors came out and cheered us on. Well, I finished the race with yet another PR! It was 35:29!!!!! :yay: It's amazing that you can shave over a minute off of your time when your not trying to save it in your cell phone. :rotfl2: I was THRILLED!!! I also felt good afterwards. The ladies of the church had made homemade goodies for our after race treats. They were yummy!! I had a little time to kill before the fun run. I got me some gatorade, went to the potty again, but kept my phone zipped up in my pocket this time. :)

Well, they announced it was about time for the fun run, and all the little kids lined up at the start line. They were so cute! :lovestruc I got to talking to a lady beside me, and she was questioning me on how I had done, how long I had been racing, etc. I told her that I was running the local 10K in May, and she said, " you know it is a rough course, right?" Well, yes, I've heard about the killer hill. I told her that I had been training, and had a plan of attack. The race started and we ran and chatted, but then I got to the point that I couldn't talk and run at the same time, so I told her to go on. Well, I'm sure she was happy 'cause she left me in the dust. :rotfl2: I did well, and by my GPS, it was a little further than 1 mile. 1.16 to be exact, and I did it in 13:52, which wasn't bad considering I had to walk for a while after letting that lady go on without me.

Well, after I finished, I got some more homemade goodies, looked at the race results, and realized there would be NO prize in my future, so I decided to go on home. Well, I needed to call a friend to tell her that I saw the man selling $5 flats of flowers along the road.:flower3: He is the Best person to buy flowers from and she had been asking if anyone had seen him. Well, I dial her number, press send, AND...... I hear NOTHING in my phone. My phone appeared to be fine, but there were no sounds coming from it when I pressed the buttons, and no sounds coming from the earpiece. Oh CARP!! It wasn't working after all.

I came home and took it all apart and laid it out on the back deck, so it could dry in the warm sunshine. Then it put some crazy comment on my banner, and I read the manual and realized that it thought I had it hooked up to the "hands free" car kit. Well, I figured my phone was just toast. Oh and we couldn't go to the phone store and get a new one because my husband lost his credit card yesterday, and we had to cancel them. :headache:

Anyway, when we went to dinner tonight, I decided to hook it up to my car charger and see what would happen. Well, my husband picked it up and called our son, who had decided to stay at home and work on a Biology paper, and it worked! :woohoo: It made the little beeps when he punched in the number, and it called my son, and I could hear him. Now the said phone has been sanitized and sprayed with Lysol along with the lovely carrying case, so all is well in my world again. :goodvibes I just hope it continues working.

All things considered, I have enjoyed my new era. I know I am in the best shape of my life! Although, I could stand to shed a few pounds, but I can't wait to go for my yearly physical and see how my numbers have improved over last year. I hope Michelle has had a lovely 40th today!!!!

I have been a day off celebrating your birthday. Thought it was yesterday. Hope it is GREAT!!!!

Actually that works too because I also celebrated yesterday. My SIL and niece took me out to Tea. It was a really cute place with really good finger sandwiches and scones:thumbsup2

Today I am going to a new Barbeque restaurant with friends and come home for cake and ice cream.

The celebration continues tomorrow because my best friend and I took the day off from work and are going to get massages and go to lunch.

Tuesday it's back to reality and trying to work off whatever lbs I gain from my birthday:scared1:

Thanks everyone for the well wishes, it means alot:hug:

Thank you for starting this thread...here is my crazy turning 40th birthday....and thank you for all of those who are reading this.

When I turned 40...I pitied myself. I'm not married, I don't have kids and I pretty much have as much fun as I can. I've white water rafted, jumped out of a plane, run marathons, traveled around the world..etc.etc.etc. blah blah, blah, LOL

anyway....so I decided I'm going run/bike ride and raise money for a cause. I know it's all because secretly want to stay in shape, but in the mean time....I might as well raise money while I can. :cheer2:

Lou - That's my motto for this year. I want to be healthier at 40 than I ever was at 30. So far, so good! :thumbsup2 I would have never imagined that I could run a 10K when I was 30, now I am considering when I could do a Half marathon. :rotfl2:

Allie - Last summer as I looked out at the prospect of turning 40 I decided, "what the heck, I am going to run a marathon." My family thought I was nuts. I signed up for the 2008 WDW Marathon in January and trained all summer, completing a 1/2 marathon and 18-mile race in the process. Well, to make a long story short I managed to train hard enough that I ran the 2008 Philly marathon in November and still ran WDW in January. I think it's more a change in attitude than anything else.

What gets me more fired up is that as fast as I ran today there was someone from my town who beat my time by 10 minutes and they are 55. Makes me realize we have a lot more good running years ahead of us.

I can finally join this thread - though I am not sure if I am a WISHer or not?! I just signed up for my first race ever - the Circle of Life 5k in January. And I will be 40 years old this September. I've been wanting to start doing this for a year and with my 40th coming, well, that was good enough reason to start and join in the fun! Plus, I lost my mom ten years ago to cancer and I see it as sort of a way to run in her memory. She loved the Lion King movie and Circle of Life was a fave song of hers, so its all very fitting. Plus, I got a little encouragement from one of my DIS friends who is a WISHer too! ;) Dh is going to run (walk) with me because I am not quite sure I can keep up with her and the rest of you pros out there! Little steps...

Anyway I am looking forward (I think?) to this cougar creating time in my life.

Welcome Z!! :grouphug: , can I call you Z? ;) My daughter and I did that same race last Jan. to celebrate my 40th. You will LOVE it! Don't worry about it at all, you'll do fine. :thumbsup2 It is a fun family event. Oh, and let Debra (deekaypee) know when your actual birthday (if you want us to know that is ;) ) is so she can put you on our list, and we will celebrate right along with you. Welcome aboard, and you are most certainly a WISHer. This is the most welcoming bunch. :grouphug: Post on the Weekly Thread and you will get a lot of tips from the pros, of which I am NOT. ;) :rotfl:

Woo hoo for being, as of today, our only September celebration. We'll try to make it appropriately HUGE.

How are my 40yo and soon-to-be 40yo WISHmates feeling about their new decade of awesome athletic achievements? Any testimonials? And it feels like a year to commit to the January festivities, doesn't it?

No, unfortunately she's not, but that's ok. Maybe it planted a seed that will develop later in life? She did enjoy herself, and we ended up walking most of the race hand in hand. The ASI photographers got a picture of us holding hands through Dinoland. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I hope it is a memory that stay with her a lifetime because I know it will for me. :goodvibes

All WISHers turning 40 in 2009! Celebrate with style! Sign up for a Disney event, tell your WISHer friends, dance with the happy banana. (It freaks me out a little, but okay...).

I've updated the b-day list, keeping the just turned 40yos on the list (toward the bottom) so we can continue to celebrate all year long--or longer. After all, Disney's Year of a Million Dreams has lasted far longer than 365 years. Precedent, yes? ::yes::

I love this! A year of a bunch of WISHERS turning 40. We do deserve a 365 day celebration so thanks for keeping the ones who have already hit the big 40 on the list. I know I appreciate it.

I have to say I don't think it has really bothered me as much as I thought it would. But when i tell someone my age and respond with 40, I feel like its not even me saying it. I feel like I should be saying 29!

I decided on the Fun Card as my Disneyworld gift. You can choose a free ticket to one park for the day (I have a FL res. Pass), A Fast pass good for everyone in your party for one park, or the Fun Card which is a gift card worth the amount of a one day one park ticket!

Thanks for the great BIG welcome!!

My DH is planning me a "surprise" 40th trip to Disney this upcoming October/November. it's difficult for him to do the planning since i'm the obsessive one with Disney. But with the help of my dd(13) and ds(10) I'm sure it'll be perfect!

Then my wonderful sister suprised me with my early birthday present...registering us for the Disney marathon. We had always talked about how cool it would be to do, but never in my wildest imagination would I have ever thought of actually doing it. Hopefully it'll be successful and I'll be able to keep my feet from the sweep!
