How hard is it to get in? When will the new pool area be open? What is the difference in all the different point options per night? Value vs. Standard? Do you get the same type room in Value as standard if you get a 2 bedroom? How nice are the SV really? Thanks.

I think it depends on whether or not you're trying to book a Value or Concierge category. There are very limit numbers of those 2 booking types and will more than likely be taken by AKV members between the 11 month and 7 month windows. Value villas are smaller than the others in terms of square footage....Concierge villas have access to the concierge lounge and are the only one's who can make reservations (at an extra cost) for the sunrise and sunset safaris. Standard is a view of the pool (Jambo) or pool/parking lot (Kidani). We have stayed in a Savanna View (Arusha)and it was definitely worth it to us. There are threads which say that all the savanna views are not created equal and which savanna view you get is not guaranteed but you can put in a request.

hmmmm interesting? So is the new pool area open now or will it open soon? I might call MS today and see what if anything is available in July. We are staying at BCV on July 26th for 6 nights and we were thinking of doing a split and staying at AKV prior to BCV for maybe 3 or 4 nights.

value is smaller - than standard.

standard are a nice size. I like my standard view. it was not a great view - it off to the side of the pool - but near the lobby.

being near the lobby was great.

The new pool is not open and I'm assuming won't be until Kidani is finished-sometime in early 2009. There are threads of Kidani construction pics that show how it's really moving along so maybe everything will open slightly ahead of schedule. Jambo villas will be the only thing open this July.

Thanks everyone. I think I will save our AKV trip for another year when everything is all finished.

That's my plan for AKV, wait until all the construction equipment is gone and it's all finished.

Is the pool area supposed to be complete by March 2009??

Is the pool area supposed to be complete by March 2009??The only official information I've seen about Kidani is that the first phase would open in "early 2009". No information was given about what would be included in that first phase but based on the construction, it will be some part of the end of the building closest to Jambo House. The pool area is at the opposite end so I think it's unlikely that it would open as part of the first phase.

There have been rumors that construction is ahead of schedule and that part of Kidani may open as early as the end of this year but so far it's just a rumor.

Once more rooms open...won't they have to open the pool area? I would think that the pool at the main lodge area would be very crowded.

Yes, I thought that too, but when we were down in November, I could not see any pool construction going on. Of course, it could be mostly not visible to the other building, so I don't suppose that's so unusual.

the pool at AKL is BIG and I mean BIG.

so I guess over a 100 people could make it crowded - but less than that - and it is also empty.

there were 25 people in the pool when I went and believe me - I had problem even seeing them.
