Hi all,

Well, here I am 2 months after we flew home from our trip to the world, remembering (and salivating over) all the wonderful food we sampled while on the trip!

Guess I'd better start off with the cast (seen as they've snuck into some of the photos I was meant to be taking of just the food!):

Me (Catherine) :cutie: - Total Disney obsessive and the main trip planner - maker of all the ADRs :surfweb:
I'm not a fussy eater and would've been a lot more adventurous with the restaurants on this trip, but had to gradually introduce parents to the art of eating in WDW ;)

Mum :laundy: - Loves Disney and good food but has some digestion problems so mainly has to stick to non-spicy, less adventurous foods.

Dad :car:- Loves Disney and enjoys food (and lots of it). Has borderline Type 2 diabetes so has to watch what he's eating and tries to steer clear of the desserts.

So with all needs taken into account we decided the safest option was to stick some buffets into the mix along with some of the most recommended eateries from the DIS :disrocks:

So the restaurants we ended up eating at were:

Earl of Sandwich - Dinner (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=23170574&postcount=12)
Boma Thanksgiving Dinner (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=23176121&postcount=14)
Backlot - Lunch (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=23192037&postcount=18)
Hollywood & Vine - Dinner (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=23251119&postcount=23)
Raglan Road - Dinner (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=23385178&postcount=32)
Ohana - Dinner (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=24373284&postcount=37)
Sunshine Seasons - Snack (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=24487032&postcount=46)
Everything Pop - Breakfast (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=24690291&postcount=49)
Everything Pop - Lunch (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=24736716&postcount=52)
Liberty Inn - Dinner (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=24753376&postcount=53)
Sci-Fi - Lunch (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=25602876&postcount=60)
Pepper Market - Lunch (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=25654128&postcount=64)
Kringla Bakeri Og Cafe - Dinner (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=25888218&postcount=70)
Columbia Harbour House - Lunch
Tusker House - Dinner
Earl of Sandwich x2 - Lunch

Right, I think that's the background taken care of! I'll update soon with my first review.
Thanks for looking

Ok, I feel a bit weird using a post to explain my reviews before I’ve even started them, but I just wanted to say a bit on the cost and ratings section:

Cost - I’ve added this in as we weren’t on the DDP and thought it would be useful for people using/ considering the DDP to compare the OOP cost.
As we didn’t keep all of the receipts, I’ve calculated the cost of what we ate using menus from the DIS. Also, unless stated, the price is exclusive of tax.
Also, I’ve noted down the cost in GBPounds, which I’ve calculated using the exchange rate of 1.9. This was the rate we received while we were over there when we used credit cards etc.

Ratings - Just to let you know, these are out of 5.

Ok, boring bits over… on to the reviews…. popcorn::

We’d been to MK today and originally booked Trails End so that we could go straight from the park. Unfortunately, the park was really busy (well it was the day before Thanksgiving), so we decided to go back to the hotel. For the first week we stayed offsite at the Buena Vista Palace, which is opposite DTD. So, when we began to feel a bit like Pooh bear with his grumbly tumbly, we decided to walk over to DTD and try Earl of Sandwich - Fantastic decision!!
I have a bit of a sandwich addiction and will put anything between two slices of bread, so this was heaven for me!

THE MEAL
Me and Mum: Earls Club. This was fantastic.
Dad: Best BLT. He said it was nice but that the bacon was really salty.

The sandwiches were really large and packed full. The ingredients seemed really fresh - no soggy lettuce here! Also, they were really well put together and when you opened the wrapping, didn’t look like they’d been put together during a hurricane (like some fast-food chains I won’t mention)!
Our only complaint is that there’s not enough seating and the inner seating in particular seemed cramped. It’s perhaps best not to go at peak times, as by 7pm we did see people hanging around waiting for tables.
Other than that, Earl of Sandwich is definitely one of our favourite CS location in WDW.

COST
$21.90 - 3 sandwiches, 2 coffees and 1 fountain soda
£11.53

RATING
Atmosphere: 2.5 / 5
Quality of food: 4
Value for money: 4.5
Overall: 4
Would I eat here again: Yes!

Great first review. I love Earl of Sandwich though it is like Disney's worst kept secret - it gets so busy!

We decided to make an ADR at Boma for Thanksgiving as we ate there for Christmas dinner in 2006 and really loved it.
I personally love the marketplace atmosphere and theming at Boma and like the fact the food is on “pods” rather than just in one line. The only criticism about the layout, particularly on Thanksgiving, is that the carved meats are located at the far end of the restaurant, usually attracting a mammoth line snaking back around some of the tables at that end.
The ADR was for 7.30pm and we arrived at AKL at about 7.00pm. We decided to book in early just in case there was any chance of getting to the gorgeous food earlier. We ended up waiting about 20 minutes before our buzzer went off. We were led to the middle right side of the restaurant by the windows, feeling pretty pleased we hadn’t got one of those tables right by the buffet line, as we could see the line for the meats was already huge!

THE MEAL
To begin with, I attacked the salad stations, trying the seafood, potato and curry-cucumber salads, all of with were really tasty. The only thing I wasn’t keen on was the watermelon rind salad. I tried this last time and didn’t like it, so why I put it on my plate again this year I have no idea. It’s just far too bitter and chewy for me; strangely enough my Mum can’t get enough of it!
My Dad’s not a salad person - he likes “real man food not rabbit food” (his words not mine) - so he went straight for the soups. He tried both that were on offer, one being some kind of curried chicken and the other tomato. He said he liked the flavour - particularly the tomato - but said they were only luke-warm.
Now I’ve got to put in a little anecdote here about Dad and his soups. The first time we went for Christmas to Florida, in 2000, it was absolutely bitterly cold for most of the holiday. One of the days we went out to TGI Fridays for some dinner (this was before we knew the words Disney Dining or ADR). As it was so cold, Dad ordered a soup - French Onion I think. Anyway it was served to the table and Dad took one sip and proclaimed “ugh it’s cold”. He called the server over and explained to him that the soup wasn’t warm enough. The server apologised, took said soup back, reheated it and brought it back to the table. Dad took a sip of the (now reheated) soup and again said “it’s only luke-warm”. Again the poor server came back, reheated the soup and brought it back. This time Dad actually finished the soup without comment. When he was finished, I asked “was that nice?”. He replied, “not really, it wasn’t warm enough”. :faint: You can imagine my and Mum’s reactions!
Anyway - to cut a long story short- my Dad is very faddy about the temperature of his soup, so I don’t know whether the soups were actually luke-warm or whether the temperature would be satisfactory to anybody but Dad aka asbestos-mouth!
Back to the review, the main courses centred around traditional Thanksgiving - there was turkey, ham, sweet potatoes, Yukon mashed potatoes, cornbread, green beans, cranberry sauce etc. Then there was the “traditional Boma” fare. I tried the coconut chicken stew and the salmon - both of which were packed with flavour. I think that’s the best thing about Boma, that you can really taste all of the different ingredients that go into the dish. I also had some fufu, which is a delicious sweet potato dish, albeit extremely sweet.
My Mum mainly stuck to the salmon and the turkey, with my Dad seeking out the prime rib, which he assured me was lovely and a lot warmer than the soups thankfully!
The best thing about Boma though is the desserts. As it was “Thanksgiving themed”, we had gingerbread cakes - which were heavenly - as well as the usual zebra domes (and orange zebra domes), banana bread pudding, fruit tartlets, Simba paws and fresh fruit.
Here’s a few photos of our dessert plates - yum:

http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff117/Caty2312/WDW%20November%202007/DSCN0920.jpg

Oh and how could I forget about the drinks? I had a Mt. Kilimarita which was absolutely gorgeous - very refreshing - and my Dad partook of a speciality beer, which I think was called a Tusker Beer(?)
For some reason in this photo my Mum’s got her hands on my drink…

http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff117/Caty2312/WDW%20November%202007/DSCN0911.jpg

Speaking of drinks, last year at Boma I had the white wine flight and seen as we’re getting all boozy I thought I’d include it:

COST:

£61.05

RATING:
Atmosphere: 3.5
Quality of food: 4
Value for money: 3.5

Would I eat here again: Yes, but as we've eaten here on our last two trips, I think unless I was staying at AKL, I'd try somewhere else next time.

Hi all,
Thanks for reading and for the comments :goodvibes

arieljasmine - I think it must be all the hot drinks he has during the day. As I'm not really a hot-drinks person, my mouth gets burnt just from the steam
As for Boma, you should definitely give it a try - if you have any questions about it that I didn't cover in the review, just ask :)

11/23/2007 - Pt. 1
We’d already eaten a large breakfast and had an ADR for Hollywood and Vine that night, so we decided to share some food between the three of us at Backlot Express.
The timing also cleverly coincided with the Holly-Day Parade ;) so we picked a table outside with a view over to the Jedi Training Camp stage.

THE MEAL
We ordered 2 hotdogs with fries, 3 fountain sodas and a marble cheesecake. Unfortunately, as soon as we put the tray down on the table we realised why everyone else had avoid this table like the plague - lets just say it had a lot in common with the Tower of Pisa! Never mind, at least we had a good view of the parade.
As for the food, the portion size was very good and 2 hotdogs to share would’ve satisfied the three of us even if we hadn’t had rather a large brekkie. And the oracle of food warmth even commented on how hot the ‘dogs were :faint: - so that has to be a good sign!
The cheesecake was nice also - I’d say it was a bit more of a mousse with a buscuity bottom rather than a true cheesecake, but as I find cheesecakes too sickly sometimes, I thought it was really nice.
As for the overall rating of the restaurant, I think there are plenty of better places to eat in the Hollywood Studios, but the outer seating here does have the added bonus of a view of the parade (that’s of course if you don’t mind a few random people trying to squeeze into the tiniest space in front of you while you’re eating, so that they can get a better view of the parade :headache: ).

COST
$23.13 (2 hotdogs with fries, 3 fountain sodas, 1 marble cheesecake)
£12.17

RATING
Atmosphere: 3.5 - the parade was on!!
Quality of food: 3
Value for money: 3
Overall: 3
Would I eat here again? There’s no reason why I wouldn’t, but I think unless it’s for a quick bite, I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here.

Thanks for the review and your kind comments to me about Boma. We probably won't be back in the World until next year so I can't think about it too much at the moment for fear of black depression! As a fellow Englishperson, do you find the American cheesecake totally different to ours? I am always strangely disappointed with the base :confused3

Yep same depression here - I'm on the verge of starting my LLM - so no Disney hols for me anytime soon

I really don't like our kind of cheesecake - they're always too sickly and we tend to have a sweet buscuit bottom (ooh that sounds rude - of course I mean the cheesecake :rotfl2: ) But I LOVE the New York vanilla cheesecakes you get in the US - I find them more tangy and do they not tend to have more of an oaty bottom?
Mind you though, I'll take anything that has chocolate in the title :rolleyes1

Firstly just want to apologise in advance for the lack of photos - obviously this shows how good the meal was, as we were too busy stuffing our faces.
Also, sorry if my comments on holiday pricing seem like I'm ranting - I'm not (she says whilst crossing her arms and scowling) - I just think it takes a little away from the normally superb value at Hollywood & Vine.

Anyway, on to the review...

11/23/2007 - Pt. 2
This was one restaurant which really surprised me. We’d considered cancelling the ADR because of the iffy reviews we’d read on the DIS and other Disney sites, but in the end we REALLY enjoyed the meal.
We had an ADR booked for 6.30pm so that we could view the Osborne Lights beforehand (which were absolutely FANTASTIC by the way - a definite Disney must-see!!!). We arrived at H&V and waited about 10 minutes before we were seated.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is definitely better than I’d expected. It’s really well themed as a 50s diner with stainless steel abound and pictures showing Hollywood in the 1930s/40s.
The buffet is all in one long line - looking similar to a serving bar at a diner and although it looks massive to begin with, both sides contain identical dishes. Despite this though, the buffet itself is really good.

THE MEAL
To start with I tried some Caesar salad, endive and goats cheese salad, potato salad, spicy slaw, peel and eat shrimp with cocktail sauces, some olives and some cornbread. In the salad section, there’s also a variety of cold pasta salads, breads and salad dressings, a beetroot based salad and mussels. The salads I tried were really tasty - I especially liked the endive and goats cheese salad, which was really interesting - and the peel and eat shrimp were also good. My parents tried a variety of the different items on offer and seemed to like everything - in fact about the only thing we didn’t try were the mussels, as none of us are fans!
For the entrees, there was prime rib with horseradish sauce, chicken thighs with blackberries, herb crusted salmon, BBQ pork loin, seafood pasta, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans, vegetable couscous and a vegetarian rice dish. Also, at the kids station there was corn dogs, chicken strips and meatballs.
My mum and I tried a little of everything. I really enjoyed the prime rib (I absolutely adore horseradish, so I was in heaven!) and my mum’s favourite was the chicken thighs as she said the glaze was fantastic. The only thing I didn’t like was the BBQ pork, which I thought was really dry.
Although my mum and I liked the selections on the buffet, my dad wasn’t as impressed. He had three major complains: 1 - no soup (not the soup issue again!!), 2 - no carved meats, 3 - not enough beef dishes. As he’s not a fan of salad, pasta or even chicken for that matter (and he says he’s not a faddy eater!:lmao:), he ended up eating some corn dogs and meatballs from the kids station along with his pork and prime rib. Luckily, he was much more impressed with the dessert selection!
The dessert table is opposite the main buffet and contains a range of mini handcrafted desserts such as key lime tart, carrot cake, orange cheesecake, pineapple upside down cake - my Mum’s absolute favourite - and double chocolate cake - which was DIVINE!! There was also apple cobbler, berry cobbler, rice crispie treats, chocolate mousse, jelly and a soft serve ice cream station. Oh and last, but most certainly not least, the mascarpone snicker cheesecake - which is one of the BEST desserts I’ve eaten at WDW!
Although there’s no specific server interaction at H&V, our server was really attentive and even gave us hot chocolates to take out of the restaurant with us for the journey out of the park.
The only criticism I would make of H&V was that by the end of the meal we felt a little rushed, as one side of the buffet had closed and it almost seemed as if they were closing up shop on us - but then again I guess we didn’t start eating till near 7pm.
Also, during the time we went, holiday pricing was in effect. Although this isn’t the fault of the restaurant and it doesn’t deter from the fact it was a really good meal, we did feel that it wasn’t as good value for money and wasn’t to the same standard as other $28 buffets like Boma for example.

COST
$86.97 (3 buffets inc drinks with holiday pricing in effect) ($71.97 without holiday pricing)

RATING
Atmosphere: 3
Quality of food: 3.5
Value for money: 3 (would’ve been 4 without that darn holiday pricing, as for $24 it is excellent value)
Would I eat here again? Yes, definitely! - Just not with holiday pricing in effect :p

I'm enjoying your reviews so far.

I'm with your dad. If food is supposed to be hot, I want it HOT - especially soup. And I very rarely drink hot beverages, so that shoots down that theory. :rotfl: Maybe it's because I'm a slow eater, and it has to start out hot, in order to still be warm when I'm finishing. :confused3

The ADR was booked for 8.30pm, for right after Cirque Du Soleil (which by the way was awesome - I’ll tell more in my forthcoming TR).
We arrived and were seated straight away, which didn’t happen in any other restaurant on the trip. Slightly worried this was a bad sign, we followed our hostess to the centre of the restaurant, arriving at our table right next to the dancer’s stage and with a great view of the band’s stage - FANTASTIC! :woohoo:

THE MEAL
To begin the meal, we were presented with a large plate of soda bread and vinaigrette dip. It was really tasty - not too hard and brittle like soda bread can sometimes be and the bit of sweetness from the vinaigrette really set it off nicely. It was also nice to get something free from Disney! ;)
When the hostess returned, we ordered our drinks and starters. For drinks, I ordered the Dubliner cocktail - this is (as the website describes) Jameson and apple pucker infused with Strongbow and cranberry juice. Here's a photo - sorry if it's a bit blurry:
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff117/Caty2312/WDW%20November%202007/DSCN1026.jpg
This was definitely my favourite cocktail of the trip and it seemed the most potent! :upsidedow
My Dad ordered one of the beer flights and Mum ordered a coke (as you can tell, she’s largely t-total, due to digestion problems she has - poor Mum).
Dad enjoyed the beer flight - as you can see, you get a good taster of each beer - but said he would’ve preferred a long pint - so that was his next drink!
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff117/Caty2312/WDW%20November%202007/DSCN1023.jpg
Back to the food, for starter, Dad and I ordered the Dalkey Duo for two and Mum had the Colpucinno.
I’d heard a lot on the DIS about the Dalkey Duo and was really looking forward to trying it - I wasn’t disappointed! When it arrived I was slightly under whelmed at the size of the portion, but believe me looks can be deceptive and this was really filling. Basically (as I’m sure a lot of you know) the dish consists of battered cocktail sausages with a mustard dipping sauce. The sausages were gorgeous the batter was crispy and they weren’t too greasy. The mustard sauce was to die for - really creamy but with quite a kick. All in all, we both enjoyed it and would definitely order this again.
The soup, which my Mum ordered was also nice, so she tells me. It is a creamy potato, bacon and cabbage soup. We regularly make our own version at home, but my Mum modestly informed me that this was far better than the recipe she uses. It did look very frothy and creamy and was fully of chunks of bacon.
For the main course, I ordered the fish and chips and both my parents ordered the shepherds pie.
Firstly, the fish and chips. These are really attractively presented with the chips coming in their own cone of greaseproof paper - which incidentally also serves to make them nice and moist but not at all greasy - and the lemon wedge comes wrapped in a ribbon tied parcel - cute and stops that nasty (and painful) lemon-juice-in-eye scenario.
The fish itself was huge. It was gorgeously moist and flaky. The batter was crisp and again, not too greasy. The chips were massive too - just the way us Brits like them and I’m sure bigger chips mean less calories, right?
I thought the fish and chips were actually much better than most of the ones we’ve had in the UK - high praise indeed!
As for the shepherds pie, this is another that we make on a regular basis at home, so it had a lot to live up to. First of all, the pictures don’t do it justice as it was huge! It had to be about 4-5 inches deep and about 5-6 inches wide! Also, it tasted fantastic - the mash was really buttery and creamy and the meat was done in what seemed to be a red wine reduction, which made it extremely rich and delicious. How do I know all this you ask - well as it was so huge, my Mum couldn’t finish it so I very kindly and unselfishly offered to help her  :rolleyes1
Unfortunately though, the size of the first two courses meant we had to skip dessert as we were just too darn full!
I can’t finish the review however without mentioning the entertainment. During the meal we were treated to a performance by one of the resident Irish dancers, here she is:
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff117/Caty2312/WDW%20November%202007/DSCN1030.jpg
and to a performance by the band (which I can’t for the life of me remember the name of):
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff117/Caty2312/WDW%20November%202007/DSCN1035.jpg
Both were fantastic and just added to the great atmosphere of the restaurant itself!
Just to finish up, here's a photo of the interesting decor of the restaurant itself (sorry my Mum snuck into the photo) :rotfl: :

Hi guys :wave2: Sorry it's been a while - I've been so busy with work and then trying to decide whether to do more study and having lots of job interviews  and then last weekend I went to watch the football team I support in one of the biggest cup tournaments in the Enlish league - they lost :sad2: but I had a great weekend in London nevertheless :woohoo:
Hope you enjoy the rest of my reviews :cutie:

The ADR was booked for 8pm and after arriving and checking in we waited about 25 minutes to be seated. Although this was one of the longest waits of the holiday, the surroundings are so gorgeous, we enjoyed having a nosey around.
We weren’t seated in the main room, but in the one at the back of the fire pit. We didn’t mind this as it meant it was a little quieter, but it is further away from the action if that’s what you’re looking for. Unfortunately we had the strange 2/3 seater table just by the kitchen, but as it was so busy and we were starving, we decided to overlook the iffy location and size.

THE MEAL
The starters and the appetizers came together and they were both delicious! The shrimp was my favourite and I’m so glad it’s now back as a skewer item. The chicken wings were yum as well - they had just the right amount of dressing without being over-coated. The wontons and the sauces were also good, but with the delicious shrimp and wings we didn’t really eat much of them.
Then came the potatoes which were absolutely divine!! They are a bit like pan haggerty (I don’t know if you have that in the US, but it’s basically potatoes, cheese and cream). I think we ended up having about 3 servings of these! The stir-fry vegetables and the salad were nice too (but you don’t go to Ohana for those do you!)
Then along came the skewers. I tried the steak, turkey and sausage. My favourite was the sausage which was just so tasty, sweet and tender…mmmmm! The turkey was also lovely - nicely marinated and tender. The steak I found to be slightly gristly, but then again my Dad had another piece which tasted far better, so I think I was just unlucky. My Mum’s favourite was the pork, which she said had a fantastic smoky BBQ taste, without being too overpowering.
Finally, the dessert was just gorgeous and I’d definitely rank it as one of my favourites of the holiday. The bread pudding is just so creamy and light and the sauce has that really concentrated banana kick….ok now my keyboard’s getting wet…
Hmm what have I missed…ah yes: the drinks! I had the backscratcher, which is a blend of light and dark rums and passion fruit juice, all topped with Jack Daniels - and it comes complete with a cute wooden backscratcher! I can definitely recommend the drink - it was fruity and refreshing, but with a real kick.
After the meal, a couple who were celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary were invited up to have a dance and receive their leis. :lovestruc They also invited anyone else who was celebrating an anniversary to join them. As it was the 30th anniversary of my parents' first date only a week before the meal, they joined in as did a number of other couples and then everyone received their leis. I thought that was really special and sweet

Overall we really enjoyed the meal at Ohana, but we did have a few small niggles:
1. There is no time to relax in between courses - the food comes out so fast you’re almost eating your skewers with your bread pudding! If/ when we go again, we’d definitely request that the food be brought out slower.
2. In the room we were in, you didn’t feel part of the action, although you could hear all of the noise.
3. That darn ukulele player gets old after the third time you sing the theme song and although it’s a fun atmosphere, you have to be really in the mood for the floorshow.
4. At the end of the meal, they charged us an 18% service charge despite the fact there was only 3 of us and then were less than apologetic when we complained.

After the meal, we watched the MVMCP fireworks from the beach at the Poly which was a really nice way to finish off the evening. Here's one of the pics I took (sorry no food pics this time - we were too busy eating :rolleyes1 )

11/30/2007

This was our first day back from Naples and the day we checked in for our first stay at Pop :woohoo:
It was EPCOT EMH that night so we headed to the park and decided to wait out all the regular guests leaving while we had a snack at Sunshine Seasons.
It was absolutely deserted in there, so for anyone wanting a quick and easy meal during an EMH night, head there just as the park is due to close to regular guests. Incidentally, we noticed later on in the night when we went back to ride Soarin (at about 60-90 mins before EMH closing that Sunshine Seasons was PACKED :crowded: )

THE MEAL
As we'd eaten a meal ouside of Disney (shock-horror :lmao: ) we just wanted something to satisfy our sweet tooth.
Dad and I had the chocolate brownie and Mum had the carrot cake and we all had fountain drinks.
The cakes were gorgeous - really fresh and full of flavour. The chocolate brownie had a really lovely fudgey topping...mmm. As the brownie was my Dad's only really sugary dessert of the holiday because of his type 2 diabetes, he thought it was fantastic!
They were also really large portions - which I also noticed of the main meals, which a family on the next table were eating.

THE COST
I think it was about $15.

RATING
Atmosphere: 2.5 (nothing special - clean, tidy and quiet)
Quality of food: 4.5

Would I eat here again: Yes - next time we're doing the EMH, we'll probably have dinner here, but it's just so busy in normal park time.

It was our first morning at Pop and as we’d been to EMH the night before, we’d had a bit of a lie in and so we were really ready for a nice breakfast. We headed to Everything Pop at about 8.30am. Now I’d heard a few negative comments on the DIS about the food court and how busy it could get, but we found it easy to find seats and there were no queues at the checkouts - result!

THE MEAL
Dad had a breakfast platter (scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes and a biscuit), Mum and I had the pancake platter (pancakes, sausage and bacon) and we all shared a fruit cup.
I was really surprised with the size and quality of the platters - the pancakes were really soft and moist and sausage and bacon were tasty and cooked well. Dad also enjoyed his platter, with the slight complaint that his biscuit was a little dry - but then again, as eating ‘biscuits’ for breakfast is a new concept for us Brits, we’re not exactly connoisseurs!:lmao: He also commented that he would’ve liked his to be a little warmer (oh no not again…:faint: )
Also I’ve just got to comment on the food court itself. We’ve been to quite a few throughout the Disney resorts and IMHO this is one of, if not THE best. The theming is excellent, the stations are well laid out, the variety of food is good, the selection of drinks for the refillable mugs is better than any other food court we’ve been to and the prices are reasonable. We were very impressed and for us, it was one of the big selling-points of Pop.

12/1/2007 - Pt. 2

After spending our first morning at Pop hanging around by the pools we decided to grab some food before heading to EPCOT.

THE MEAL
As we'd had quite a large and late breakfast we decided to order a variety of food to share between us. We ordered the shrimp lo mein, a meatball sub, 2 sides of breadsticks and 2 tie-dyed cheesecakes.
The shrimp was pretty big and tasted really good, but it was a little sparse on the shrimp. The sub was ok (I'm not really a meatball fan, so I just had a quick taste - for DIS review purposes of course ;) - but I have it on a meatball-lovers authority that it was very tasty with a rich tomato sauce).
The breadsticks were gorgeous - really soft and they came with a lovely thick, rich marinara sauce. They were also great value as you got three with the sauce for under $2 - bargain!
Now on to the best bit - the desserts. The cheesecakes were gorgeous! They're really light and fluffy and have a very delicate vanilla taste - not at all like you'd expect from looking at them! But you'll probably want to clean up well afterwards as they turn your lips a lovely shade of purple :teeth:

12/1/2007 - Pt. 3

After spending the afternoon walking around the World Showcase we were pretty hungry and decided to head to one of the eateries to fill our tums.
Now, I’ve just got to interject here that ordinarily we would have had an ADR booked, but as the three nights at Pop were a last minute change due to the codes  (originally we were spending those night in Sarasota), we were ADR-less. :scared1: I have to admit I felt little exposed - like flying on the outside of an aircraft or walking down the street naked…:crazy2: but I had to tell myself - go with it - after all it’s not all about planning every detail of the holiday so everything runs like clockwork and making bookings 180 days in advance at one-of-a-kind dining venues, salivating while you plan each course that you will sample….BREATHE, BREATHE…it’ll be fine…I hope!
I noticed that the next performance of the Candlelight Processional was starting in the next half hour, so I thought we could head to the Liberty Inn and watch it while we ate. We’d actually booked the Candlelight dinner package the previous year, so we weren’t too bothered about how much we’d be able to see and hear.
When we got to the Liberty Inn it was pretty busy but we managed to snag a table with a good view of the theatre.

THE MEAL
We all ordered the same - hotdogs and fries with apple cobbler and a fountain drink. The portion size of the hotdogs and fries were good and the restaurant has a good fixin’s bar with all the traditional salad items and condiments. Also, the fries were thicker-cut than you’d normally find in fast food joint such as McDonalds (but they’re still nowhere near as good as those from the fish shop in the UK…yum). The cobbler was nice - it had a lovely cinnamon edge to it and again it was a good sized portion.
So all-in-all it was just ok. To be fair I don’t really know what I expected - it is what it is. It’s just you’re so spoiled in EPCOT by counter service restaurants that are so diverse and original that the Liberty Inn just feels like a wasted opportunity. :headache:

We’d made the ADR for 2.50pm, so we arrived about 10 minutes early to be told it would be about a 25 minute wait. That was quite a generous estimate, as 15 minutes later we were greeted by our server who took us to our car. Unfortunately I can’t remember her name, but she was great. She was English - from Devon - and this was going to be her first Christmas away for her family so she appreciated chatting with us about back home.
We were seated directly in the centre of the room in the front car - closest to the movie screen - AWESOME!
Here's a few pics from around the restaurant:

http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff117/Caty2312/WDW%20November%202007/DSCN1313.jpg

The atmosphere in this place is so cool. It really is like a huge drive-in movie theatre and the interaction with the staff - although not as full-on as somewhere like Whispering Canyon or Prime Time - makes the experience all that more authentic.
Ok so onto what we’re all here for - the food…

THE MEAL
Although I still wasn’t sure what to order to eat, I knew exactly what I wanted to drink (and no, it wasn’t alcoholic) :faint: - it was the Pirate Punch. I love raspberry lemonade and we don‘t really get it here in the UK and yes, ok, I really wanted that flashing Tink!! :hyper:
For starter Dad ordered the BLT soup, but Mum and I decided to skip starters, fearing that we’d not be able to make it to dessert (and that would be criminal!) ;)
Dad really enjoyed the soup - I have to say it looked really nice. He was a little wary at first due to the reference to lettuce in the title (or “rabbit food” as he so lovingly terms it), but he said it was “like a really thick tomato soup with chunks of bacon”, which I can only assume was a good thing! :rotfl2:
For mains Mum and I ordered the smoked turkey sandwich and Dad had the Reuben. The sandwiches were a lot larger than we’d expected and were really packed with filling. I was really annoyed though that I’d decided to order French fries with my sandwich, as Mum had the cucumber-melon salad and it was lush! It was really tasty - quite tangy and tart. Oh, well that’ll teach me!
Dad enjoyed his sandwich also and unlike me he was glad he’d picked French fries as “you got quite a plate-full” - his words again!
Then; onto dessert! As the sandwiches were large, Mum and I decided to share the hot fudge sundae. Again, this was a large portion and plenty to share between two. It was lovely - delicious vanilla ice cream and gorgeous hot fudge sauce….well you can’t really go wrong can you? ::yes::
We were just finishing our sundae when we had our very own bit of pixie dust. pixiedust: Our server announced that we were in the car of the day, so we were all going to get a Sci-Fi drivers licence and a packet of Crackerjacks. It was really great to feel that bit special and it rounded off a fantastic meal.

Now I know that yet again I've got no pics of the actual food, but we were just too darn busy eating it  - I don't know how some of the reviewers have the willpower to take fantasic photos of their food before they eat it :rotfl2:
Now I'm going to really break the dining review rules (yes, I am a rebel! :smokin: ) and post some pics of what we did after the meal.
We'd decided to see a performance of the Harlem Gospel Choir as a surprise for Mum (who really loves Gospel music). IT WAS FANTASTIC! It has to be one of our must-sees in WDW! We'd never actually heard that type of music performed live and the whole vibe was awesome - everyone was singing along and dancing- and the Christmas songs in particular were very moving!
Needless to say Mum loved it and as a great bonus we were even invited to have a photo taken with some of the performers!

CSR check in day! :dance3:
We left Pop at around 10am, as we were so excited about checking in at our new resort! At the desk, we were told that we’d been allocated a room in the Casitas section - building 4. I’d requested Cabanas buildings 8A or 9A, for the reasons that they weren’t too far away from the food court, were close to the bus stop and the main pool, so I really wasn’t thrilled with the location. The guy on reception was great about it - a few keystrokes later and we’d been placed in Cabana building 8A and upgraded to a water view at no extra cost - RESULT! :cool1: :cool1:
As it was early, we headed to DTD to pick up a few souvenirs - a girl can never have too many pins (although my neck will begin to look like a wrestler's with all that weight!). When we returned to Coronado we decided to try the food court, before heading to the room and then off to EMH at MK.
Rix wasn’t open yet :( (it opened on the last day of our stay), so we headed to the Pepper Market.
I have to admit, I really preferred Pop’s food court. Yes, the noise level was lower and there was a more laid-back theme here, but it was all a bit confusing. :confused3

We were seated and our server explained the “stamp” situation. Is it just me, or does having to stamp your card not feel a little bit, second-class-citizen-ish? :headache: No, just me then.
Our server asked us what drinks we wanted and as we’d purchased the refillable mugs earlier that morning, we started ask if she could re-fill them. This did not please her - she got quite snotty and told us we should do them ourselves at the station across the room :snooty: - ok fair enough, but a bit more politeness wouldn’t have hurt. ::yes::
We mooched around the stations and finally decided to go for the sandwiches.

THE MEAL
I settled on the turkey breast sandwich with coleslaw, Dad had the soup of the day (which was chicken and veg) and the BBQ beef sandwich with chips (which once again we were dumb enough to think meant English chips (i.e. fries) :faint: ) How many times have we made that mistake?? :rolleyes1 And Mum had the soup and Ham and cheese sandwich with coleslaw.
The soups were MASSIVE - seriously! So much so that Mum didn’t even attempt her sandwich and took it back to the room with her. Even now my parents will still say when they see soup on a menu, “Do you think it will be Coronado sized?” or “Will it be as thick as the one in EPCOT?” *note little teaser for future dining review*:p . So, basically, they both loved the soup - very tasty and full of chicken and veg bits - and huge to boot.
My sandwich was just ok - it seemed fresh and it tasted nice, but there was nothing particularly wow about it (I know, I know, it’s a turkey sandwich, but the one at Sci-Fi just tasted so much more flavourful).
Dad’s BBQ beef sandwich was lovely though! How do I know this? Well, as he raved about how good it was today, the following day when we decided to get a quick takeout from the Pepper Market, I knew what I wanted!

12/4 - Pepper Market Lunch - take 2
The beef was plentiful and had a really thick and tangy BBQ coating - Yum! What do you think my parents ordered on our second jaunt to the Pepper Market? Yep, you’ve guessed it, the soup! This time it was tomato and basil, which the enjoyed just as much as the chicken and veg. They said it was really creamy and tangy.
The only one thing I’ve got to mention, is that as we got our food to go, we expected not to be charged the gratuity, but when we got back to the room, we realised we had been. :( As it was only a small amount and we wanted to head off that evening into the parks, we didn’t query it.

THE COST
12/3 - $37.75 (£19.86)

12/4 - $20.85 (£10.97)

Would I eat here again: Well, we did, but only because it was convenient - I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way.

Up next - is two desserts too much? Not at Kringla Bakeri Og :cool1:

Sorry you didn't enjoy your experience at the Pepper Market. It is our favorite counter service at any Disney resort (it helps that we stay at the CSR every trip). I do know what you mean about the server--most of them are not friendly at all. I tend to ignore them because I know they are NOT Disney employees. Pepper Market and Maya Grill are not-Disney owned restaurants.

We found PM to be a bit confusing too, but more because we were on the DDP and different CM's would say different things were included  Our server always filled our refillable mugs though :confused3 At least you all liked the food, we had fajitas one night and it could have fed all 4 of us, we hardly made a dent in it :rotfl:

I think PM is definitely great for a TS type meal, but it's not one for a quick bite. It wouldn't put us off going to CSR again - we loved the resort - and now there's the new Rix cafe, there's more food options. It's just a shame it only opened on our last day
Yes, I heard that it wasn't Disney operated - do you know why in particular those two restaurants were outsourced?

The food was definitely good. I LOVE fajitas, but with having TS ADR's at other places, I really couldn't've faced them for lunch - definitely one for next time though ;)
Perhaps we just were unlucky with the service on that occasion - it was just that for every other meal, we'd had fantastic service! :)

I can't wait to try SciFi now, it all sounde great, lovely photos with the gospel choir :goodvibes

Thank-you - it was a really lovely bonus to have a photo with them and it topped off a fantatic day! :)

The Sci-Fi food sounds much improved since the last time we went there. I love going for the atmosphere though, I don't think it can be beaten on that.

Totally agree - the atmosphere is awesome.
Have a fantastic hol at DLP by the way - I'm so jealous :goodvibes

Adoring your trip report and your pictures!! Looking forward to more!!

Thank you, we had a wonderful time :lovestruc

We had a similar experience of the PM, rude servers and confused by how everything worked. I didn't realise the restaurants at CS were outsourced, that figures. I wouldn't go back, too stressful!

This was the day that really went belly up for us. We’d booked to go to the MVMCP that night, but I hadn’t been feeling well all day. After having some lunch at PM, we were starting to get ready for the party when I began to feel really ill. I don’t want to gross you out (this is a food review after all), but put it this way, lunch wasn’t lunch for long!
It was really upsetting to think I wasn’t going to be able to manage the MVMCP:sad2: , but luckily the really nice CM who’d checked us in a couple of days before allowed us to have refunds on our tickets, so at least we didn’t lose the money! :)
Later in the evening I was feeling quite a bit better and we decided to head to EPCOT. As a showing of CP was just starting we headed through to WS. Here we encountered another wonderful CM who, when she saw us invited us to have a seat in the theatre even though the show had started and there were plenty of other people queuing - I must have looked rough!
Honestly, we had better seats than when we booked the dinner package the previous year and we got to see Dennis Franz, the actor who plays one of Dad’s favourite characters - Sipowicz from NYPD: Blue! pixiedust:
After we decided to stop at Kringla Og on the way out to grab a bite to eat.

THE MEAL
We ordered 2 Chefs Specials between us, as I still wasn’t feeling like eating much. These each consisted of a Jarlsberg and leek cheese soup, a choice of beef or prawn sandwich and a rice cream (or a veiled maiden or chocolate mousse).
The portions for everything were pretty generous and the whole meal put together would definitely be a challenge for just one person.
Out of the meal, I had half the prawn sandwich and the rice cream, so I’ll review those first. The sandwich was gorgeous - lovely granary bread (which you don’t see much of in the US) with moist but not soggy salad and a good filling of lightly dressed prawns. I couldn’t believe I fancied cold rice pudding, but that was really what I felt like eating:upsidedow This was yum - lovely strawberry compote on the bottom topped with really creamy (but not sickly-sweet) rice pudding.
While I was nibbling on these my parents tucked into the soup, remaining sandwiches and rice cream. Mum said the soup was the most delicious and creamy she’d had on WDW property - soon to be corrected by Dad who question whether the PM offering was slightly better (and larger) - you can see what I have to put up with!:faint:
The sandwiches were a hit too. Dad devoured the beef while Mum ate the other half of the prawn. Both of them said they were delish - very tasty and filling. ::yes::
Mum then went on to have the other rice cream, as Dad after taking a bite and realising it was cold, pulled a face rather like Goldilocks when she realises that porridge is too sweet (apparently he doesn’t like cold rice pudding). :rotfl:
We had a really good meal here and I’d definitely recommend it. The only criticism I’d make is that there’s very little in the way of seating, so I’d imagine it would be pretty impossible to get a table at peak times.
Oh, and just one more thing; on the way out we picked up a school bread (well, we couldn’t really not, could we?). This was eaten for supper (yes it appears I got over my bout of sickness pretty quick! ) It was absolutely gorgeous and I can see why everyone raves about it, in fact if we could’ve possibly fitted it in, the next day I would’ve gone back to EPCOT just to pick one up! :lmao:

So sorry to hear that you were poorly but glad you got over it quickly. Those meals sound like a good deal, I could just fancy a rice cream :)

So sorry you were ill, do you think it was something you ate?

I've never fancied eating at Kringla but it sounds delicious, well except dessert :rotfl:

So sorry you were ill, do you think it was something you ate?

No I don't think so - I felt pretty off as soon as I woke up that morning and I had a headache and general grogginess as well as the "other stuff" (:lmao: ).

Funnily enough, the only recent time I've been ill due to food was in Orlando a few years ago. We ate at Steak and Shake in LBV on the last morning of the hol and I was ill all the way home on the plane
I'm never stepping foot in S&S again!! ::yes::
