Does anyone know if the Disney restaurants will blend/puree food for my DS with CP?

When we took DS12 last year I called Disney dining ahead aof time and notified them of his special needs, specifically that he cannot chew up food. All his food needs to either be naturally mushy or it needs to be blended up. No problem. At each restaurant the chef came out, met with us and Christian, showed us items on the menu that might work for him , and made a meal. That was true in every restaurant, including Kona Cafe,Hoop Dee Doo, Liberty Inn, & Marrakesh. It was never a big deal and DS wasn't stuck eating fruit cocktail and pudding all week. In fact, I was pretty impressed with his dinner at that French restaurant in Epcot. The way they fixed it, the plate looked just as tasty as any of the others, which is hard to do when the food is pureed. Kudos to all the Disney chefs for making our trip very normal.

One thing to remember is they can only do it with their own food. If you bring in your own food they are not allowed, by health regulations, to bring outside food into the kitchen.

It is wonderful how accomidating the ts restaurants at WDW are. I have heard before that they will do their best to meet any special dietary needs.

But what about cs? We are not planning to eat each and every meal at a ts restaurant. Can arrangements be maded to have something available at cs, or as 'take out' to be picked up at a ts establishment (a smooth soup that can be altered by our adding 'thick-it' would suffice)? Or will we simply need to carry some sort of pureed foods along with us into the park (in a small, soft sided cooler)?

Just trying to find out as much info as I can, in order to plan ahead.

There are some links to diet information in post 3 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread that include how to contact people about dietary needs.
They should be able to answer your questions.

Thanks Sue.

I also just received the "Passporter's Open Mouse" book last night. (It is so thorough and genuinely informative) All of the important contact information, and suggestions for who to contact when (in regards to special dietary needs) is in there. So I think we will do fine.

My DS also requires pureed food. I usually bring along baby food for him, however, it is great to know that they will puree food at the restaurants. It usually provides them with more calories and allows them to eat what others are eating, even if it is in a different form. I am so amazed at how accomodating the CMs seem to be. This is a great tip!

I had another thought. When not eating at a restaurant you could try to use a portable food grinder for take out food. Kidco makes a very small food grinder. I add water to the food and it comes out to a smooth consistency. I am not sure if your child can tolerate this texture.

Thank you for your replies! Should I ask for this when I make the reservations or when I arrive at the restaurants?

When you make the reservations just state there are special medical dietary requirements. Remind them of this when you get to the Podium. Normally when you are seated a Chef will come out and talk with you.

I just spoke to a woman when I booked a dinner reservation who was very helpful. You can also call ahead to let them know specifically that you will need food pureed. Hoop Dee Doo actually confirmed what we would like pureed for when we arrive. There are also a couple of places that will puree food to go. You have to speak to a manager, but it sounds like it won't be a problem. The Main Street Bakery in M.K. and the Sunshine Seasons Grill in Epcot will prepare pureed foods to go. You may have to place an order and then come back for it.
