Great job JoJo 1980!:cool1:I see you were in a one bedroom villa. It looks like you were pretty close to the Atrium area. Our last trip we stayed in a one bedroom overlooking the Atrium. It was the door on the first floor in your seventh photo you posted. Will you all be staying in the villas this trip or the main lodge? We have a two bedroom booked for this December and I would love to be on the atrium again, since it will be our daughter and grandson's first visit. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks  We'll be staying in the main lodge this year, I would have loved to have stayed in a villa or studio but there wasnt anything available for our dates :sad1: Upon arrival at check-in if something is available do you think we could upgrade to the villas? (Obviously at cost) Or are they classed as two seperate resorts? Our villa was at the end of a very long hallway, we turned right when you come out of the lifts if that helps at all  I've got a photo of the front door so when I find it i'll let you know the room number :thumbsup2 What dates will you be there this december??

Disney does reserve some rooms in the Villas for booking through them, instead of the Vacation Club, but being the smallest of the deluxes and the resort that goes so well with the Christmas theme, it books up terribly fast. We are going the last few days of Nov. and first few days of Dec.:banana: It used to be a slow time, but not so much anymore. Maybe you will get a room on the lobby if that is where you would like to stay.

DisneyNutz - Like everyone else I love your pictures. :thumbsup2

We're heading back to WDW in Nov/Dec of this year, taking advantage of the discounts on SSR, this is after having stayed at the WL or VWL every year for the last decade.

Seeing your pictures, I only hope we don't pine for the place too much.

At least were in the 'wilderness' so thats the main thing :yay: When I first entered our dates there was nothing at the villas and then in the main resort there was only a concierge room available that we couldnt afford so I was nearly heartbroken thinking that we wouldnt get a room at all. I looked again typing in different dates and 6 nights were available rather than 7 so we grabbed them with both hands :worship: We then decided that is we stayed offsite cheap somewhere we could do 9 nights rather than the 7 originally planned (even though we only had 6 booked  )- so the first 3 nights will be offsite. I'm going to let hubby pick the offsite hotel because he's always wanted to try offsite at least once - hope he gets into research mode soon :surfweb::laughing:

I love your photos so much  Would you mind if I saved a couple on my desktop to show my hubby?? It sounds like we might be there at the same time!! We're at the lodge from 30th Nov to 6th Dec

Thanks Ranger 1873.:thumbsup2 It may be a little tough due to the holiday decorations at that time of year, but at least it will let you know if you still enjoy the WL as much as you have in the past.:thumbsup2 Wishing you and yours the very best trip.:cool1:

We have stayed at the Buena Vista Suites a few nights to start off a few trips. You pass right by it on your drive in from MCO Airport. It is a nice place to stay with very spacious rooms and you get breakfast each morning for free if you are breakfast eaters. Pull out of the parking lot and it is a straight shot to WDW about 2 and a half miles. If you look into it, try through Dreams Unlimited for your best rates.:thumbsup2 (it's not a package, you can get room only).

Yes you can certainly download some of my photos. :thumbsup2 If you see me at the WL, I will be the big touristy looking guy with ALL the camera gear.:rotfl::rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl2:

Not to throw a kink into you plans but with free dining wouldn't it be worth it to stay in an a room at the All Stars for the three days, you won't need a rental car as Magical Express will handle everything. Of course this scenario assumes that you'll be spending all 9 days at Disney parks and there really is a big savings on 9 day tickets as they really only increase $3 each day you add on. Just want to be sure you consider all the possibilities. Have a great trip! We'll be tag teaming you at the WLV.

DisneyNutz, I just wanted to let you know that it was your lovely pictures that have gotten me through two major surgeries, to say nothing of the music. My hubby brought the music to be played in my ears as I laid there on morphine drip....You gave me courage and strength to fight and get better. We did get to go this May and I cried when I came through those big doors again, on my scooter, but I got there. I say this to encourage you to put as many of your glorious pictures here as you can. You have no idea what they mean to us.... Hugs...and THANK YOU....

Your kind words touched both DW and myself. We hope you are doing MUCH better and wish you the VERY BEST. We understand your feelings when entering the WL as do all others who have found their niche there. It truly is like coming home where you can escape from everything in the outside world, every time you enter the doors.:yay: Wishing you and yours the very best and a speedy recovery /and return to the WL. :thumbsup2

My other half loves your photos too, I've just been showing them to him - so were all excited again now!! Right, got it, if I spot a professional looking camera dude with lots of kit then we know too go over and say 'Boo' ;)

Oh heck, dont give me options  I'm hopeless with decisions and the more options I get the more confused I get :lmao: That does sound like a great idea though, I'll mention it to DH and see what he thinks!! I love the idea as we have never stayed at all stars and would be good to experience it even for a couple of nights :thumbsup2

Wishing you both a MAGICAL TRIP:cool1:

IMHO we have never done the sleigh ride personally, but we do know if you take the one from the WL it will take you into the dark between the WL and the FW (unlighted woods). The sleigh ride at Fort Wilderness will however take you around their grounds and believe us, There is much more to see there.:thumbsup2 Go for the FW sleigh ride.:cool1:

But just wanted to share some info with ALL the WL fans.:thumbsup2 If you like the ride SOARIN in EPCOT, the Colonial candle " Holiday Sparkle" is an EXACT replica (scent) of flying over the orange groves on Soarin! We love their candles and ordered some of our favorites for the holiday recently. I opened a jar of the Holiday Sparkle and smelled it and told DW that it "took" me to SOARIN. Then I figured out the EXACT scene. DW concurred that it was the EXACT smell you have flying over the orange grove in SOARIN! Just wanted to share this with all the WL fans. We have previously loved the smell of this candle, but just now made the connection. :cool1:

The only problem is - the more groupies we get the harder it will be for us to make our reservations. We should really tone this thread down a bit. Maybe someone can post the infamous DVC dumpster view and say that all the views are like this one. Tell everyone it's the swell woodsy view. ;)

Caught this cute little guy walking on the grass by the boat docks. Anybody know what type of bird he is? Will work for a science project still.

That is a "Great Blue Heron"

Disneynutz Thank you so much for the info on my cute little bird!! That will definitely make my job easier when i go to help my son with his project. Well, he got to stay out of school for 2 days but got several great pics for his science project.

BTW, just loved your home resort!! I know that we will be adding on within the next couple of years but would like to try some other out before we do that and VWL resort is amazing!

I just spent 25 minutes scrolling through 1/3 of this thread. There are some absolutely gorgeous photos in here. Thanks to everyone. I am super excited about my upcoming stay at WLV in May. I had dinner at Artist Point in September, walked in, and fell in love with the lodge. I told my DH I "had" to stay here in May. Called at 9am, exactly 90 days out, and my wish was granted. So please, please, please keep posting pictures and I will go back and see the rest of the thread, but I'm going to save it for another day.

Does anyone have pictures of the plaques below the Raven and Eagle totem poles? Or does someone know what they say? I found an article with information that the Raven totem pole depicts a "raven pulling the sun, moon and stars from a box to light the darkened world." I am looking to confirm this information and find the same information for the Eagle totem pole. Thanks!

:cool1:

I have been waiting for our local garden/gift stores to put out their holiday candles but came across a large oval shaped holiday sparkle candle at Marshalls today. They had a bunch and they smell just like Soarin! The best part is they were only $10.99! I bought 3 for gifts and one for myself. Oh, and I found these in the Cleveland area/west side. Thanks so much for the tip!:thumbsup2

No, 4 is the max (unless you have an infant under 2) in all of the rooms, except for the Deluxe rooms...they will sleep 6 in 2 queens and a Sofa bed.

Hi,
I rec'd a pin code and upgraded my family to WL!!!!!!:goodvibes My DH loved the look of the WL but our budget allowed us to stay at a mod. We have stayed at the cabins and CBR. Now we are booked for Apr.22-29!!! My DH is happy! I used my code and the same deal only cost $40 more to go from CSR to WL!!!!:thumbsup2
My DD 16 is in a wheelchair so I hope this resort is a good choice for her. The cabins were almost too private and CBR too big. She found it a long "hike" to the food court. We need 2 rooms because my family is 5 plus a cousin. My DD 21 and her cousin share a room. I hope we enjoy our stay there! I would greatly appreciate any advice you have to offer!:goodvibes

Does anyone know if the Photo Pass photographers are hanging around in the lobby for the holidays to take pictures? Not the Professional services you can book... just the "regular" Photo Pass folks that will take a few shots and add them to your Photo Pass card/account. We are heading down for our stay on Friday and I'm thinking about taking some nice clothes to try to get a good Christmas card shot or something. We love the Wilderness Lodge at Christmas!

I think that you will love ther WL. We chose it in Dec. 2007, when my In-laws went with us, due to some mobility issues. THey loved that it was all under one roof, and that they didn't have to go outside to go sit in the lobby, Roaring Forks, etc. It is fairly compact, as far as a Disney Resort goes. Just be aware that sometimes you may have to wait a little longer for a boat that will accomodate your DD's wheelchair, as not all can. You always have the busses, and some of the boats will be fine, but for others, she would have to transfer out of her chair and down a couple steps.

I think you can, by calling Private Dining. I don't think they have as many choices as the hotels with bigger bakeries, like the CR and GF, but I think I have seen some cakes ordered from WL on the cake thread over on the dining board. I think they even list the #'s for all of the different bakeries on it, so you can call now to order.

We returned yesterday evening. We were there for a week. I believe I had mentioned that we were taking our oldest grandson (almost 3 Years old) and his mom on their first ever trip. I carried several pounds of Camera gear and a camcorder every day (not to mention him often times), but could not get away and find time on this trip for photos other than of him enjoying WDW and meeting the characters. Although I didn't get to walk around taking photos of the lodge this trip, it was well worth it for me to see him experience it all. By the way, we were very dissapointed that the waterfall out back was not lit at all our entire trip. Anyhow DisneyNDecember you will have to take enough for the both of us. Yeah there have been some changes this year. We have been to WDW in December now about 5 times and Epcot didn't look the same without L.O.W. even though the big tree is still there. The waterfall not being lit was a real bummer also. That was one of the things I loved to shoot out back of the lodge. I miss not having walked around the lodge for some shots, especially since I had a new lens for this trip. Anytime Andrew was awake he was ready to "go ride rides" and anytime he was down for a nap or for the night, I was recharging from carrying all the camera gear and sometimes him (35-40lbs). I have never needed a recharge time except overnight before going on this trip. Andrew is a total "ride junkie" and his favorite was Goofy's Barnstormer. He rode that roller coaster 20 times in three trips to the MK. We would put our arm around the back of his head to stabilize it, but other than that he would just jump in the cart and hang on to the hand bar. He would even make the WOO holler in the drops and curves like he heard other people doing. He loved, loved, loved, the drops and sharp banking turns and I got a few photos of him doing that. The ride would be over and pulling into the station for unload and he would already be asking if someone would ride roller coaster with him again. We would have to finally say enough and drag him away crying for more after about six or seven trips around on that ride. His feet would hit the floor in the morning asking if we could ride roller coaster? We tried to make him happy by riding other rides and he would ride them several times and often ask about roller coaster again. There is no doubt in my mind he would have loved Big Thunder Mountain, but he is a couple months shy of 3 years old and he is tall at 37". I don't know of any 2 year olds tall enough to meet the 40" requirement, so he will just have to wait for a future trip. He also had a meltdown in AK when he saw the Primeval Whirl and we told him he couldn't go on it. Good thing I love them also, so when he gets tall enough we can hit them all.

DisneyNutz, I loved reading about your grandson.
My son & I are both roller coaster junkies so I feel his love for the rides !! My son's first coaster ride was Big Thunder Mountain railroad & I still have the Mickey train that we bought in the store afterwards because he carried it around in his hand the entire day after that. He is now 14 & I will always see him at at that age carrying that little train around in his hands!!

I am glad you had a great trip, but now you need a vacation from the vacation, huh??

I know I am going to have the same thoughts about the Lights of Wonder, I sent Disney a "nice" email with my sadness about not putting them up this year. I LOVED being able to sit on a bench & watch the lights, enjoy the music, & soak up the tree all in that special spot at Epcot, so I am very saddened about that choice by Disney.

Have fun planning your next vacation !!!

Wishing you and yours the most magical trip.pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

Sounds like you had a nice trip DizneyNutz even if you didn't get to do your normal photography. On our trip it seemed like the only think I got a chance to take pictures of was some at the lodge. We had our longest stay at WDW and I took my fewest pictures. :confused3 Part of having more people with us I think.

But - the waterfall light was working in November!

Yes we did have a great time and developed many new memories of the lodge. I believe you are correct about having more people with you, especially if they have never visited before. Your pictures are awesome by the way and thanks for sharing them. We are also already planning our next December trip and also trying to figure out how how to possibly squeeze in an early summer trip around other commitments I have coming up.

We just got back and boy can you guys really Capture the Magic :wizard:

Sorry to say I agree I was disappointed about the Epcot lights it just wasn't the same and the crowds were very heavy at times.

But staying focus on the positive this visit I planned time to just sit in the lobby and enjoy the beautiful tree and the resort and thanks to your pics Kat I ran around and found all the little hide aways you shared with us.

Merry Christmas :santa:

Thank You very much. Glad you had a great time and enjoyed the lodge.:thumbsup2 I miss not coming back with a bunch of new photos, but wouldn't have traded it for the memories that we gained having our grandson see it for his first time. I can always take more photos later, but the experiences can't be relived. Looking forward to our next trip.:cool1:

You are too kind.:goodvibes They were taken with the Canon Rebel xti a little over a year ago. It's kind of funny looking at them now, because they look a little drab to me now. Not sure of the exact settings without going back and digging them up, but definately longer exposures using a tripod and remote release. You have to set up and scan looking for oncoming people before tripping the release to get a photo without people walking into the picture. I had a brand new lens that I really wanted to try out on our last trip this past Dec. but the lights were not on in the fountain and we had our grandson on his first trip so I took very few photos of anything but him. Looking forward to this Dec. We are already booked.:cool1:

good to know! I have been shooting with an XTI for about a year now. I'll def have to remember my tripod when I am back in WDW this may. what lens(es) are you using? I'm looking into buying the "nifty 50" as everyone calls it to do some portrait work. What is your most fave lens to bring to disney?

I have the 50 that I wish I had never bought just because I have probably only attached it a couple of times. I have the 85mm f/1.8 that is really great for portraits and rarely use it either. I am not a photographer, so I rarely use my camera except on trips or birthdays, etc. My most used lens and the one the photos you mentioned were taken with was a 18-55mm f3.5 I believe. The new lens that will now be my favorite is the Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM. That is AWESOME and I can't wait to use it at Disney.:thumbsup2

i have read that the rooms are tired and worn - i had put that question out on the main board and got 6 or 7 responses that, yes they were like a motel 8!
then i got a response saying the rooms had been redone in 2005
is that correct?

I think you will love it! The location can't be beat, its secluded which is nice but not too far away either. We loved the boat rides to and from the magic kingdom and my DS loved the decor. We are an outdoorsy camping family so the decor was right up our alley. Good luck!

We just got back, and our room was in great shape. I'm not sure when they were redone, but it must've been recently. They've been upgraded to include the newest electronics - 30" flat screen tv, iHome, coffee maker (coffee's not that good, though). The lighting was nice, and it was very spacious. It is far from being on the same scale as a motel 8.

My brother and I had a standard room in May 2009. My brother strongly opposes paying more money for the view (unless its AKL) so we lucked out when the Standard room became available. I really enjoyed the savings, and since we don't hang out on the balcony the only thing I requested was that we be close to the lobby. When we checked in, We had the most AWESOME CM who was helping us. Our original room was going to be overlooking the service area, but since I had heard about the noise, I asked him if a different one was going to be available even if it was further from the lobby, we were willing to wait. He hooked us up! Not an upgrade, but we loved this room! Here is a sorta picture of our view through the curtains (its of the roof, but not the same infamous roof room)

http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s97/nlaskin/DIS/IMG_0016.jpg

But I think we had an awesome "view" when we just went outside our front door!!

We are booked at WL February 17 (2 Weeks from today!!!) for little brothers 18th birthday. We have a woods view because we couldn't get standard, we're hoping for another great room!

Just getting back to this thread - love the "toe tracks" DizneyNutz! Thanks for the compliments on the photos! :goodvibes

Great photos! Which lens are you using?

Thank you Nicole786! Sorry I was so long in answering this. Many of the photos were taken with the 28-135mm f/4 Minolta and the really wide angle ones with the 12-24mm Sigma.

Yes you can! We watched the MVMCP fireworks a couple of nights from the beach and I believe DizneyNutz had posted some firework shots taken from the large balcony at the front of the lodge.

Here's a couple of quick shots from the beach:

Here's a couple from our room in Nov. We had a 2 BR lockoff which means one half of it was a studio that connected to a 1BR. While we were there they were beginning to switch out the TV's to flat panels. I think I've heard that is completed.

VWL Studio sofa sleeper and bed:

VWL Studio TV armoir and table. This shows the connecting door to the 1BR which of course would be locked if you only had the studio. There are two chairs for the table but we used one to prop open the door.

There are tracks of all kinds just about everywhere there is concrete! Our DGS (3) delighted in everyone of them and spotted the "toe tracks" immediately! Looks like all the animals were stirring when the sidewalks/walkways were being poured! Also, when walking along at night, listen out for the "crickets" even in December! :goodvibes

These prints in particular were on the trail from the WL pool to the VWL pool. And as DizneyNutz said, more prints can't be found all over the outside of the resort. It's fun to figure out the different animal tracks.

We are booked at WL for our August trip. I just spent the entire evening going through this thread and loved all the photos. I have a Nikon D90 and am hoping to make the most of it on this trip (and maybe learn a few new tricks with PE7). It is such a beautiful resort and I know my DH is excited. We had origianlly booked CSR, but when we changed dates CSR wasn't available. We didn't tell the kids we upgraded so it will be a surprise. Thank you to all those that have posted their photos...thank you for a wonderful evening of magical dreams :cloud9:

Cherylsmike,

WL is a wonderful resort; I think you and your family will have a great time there.

Since you are bringing your camera take advantage of the many photo opportunities there. Here are just a few:

Have a cast member take a photo (with your camera) of your family rubbing the nose of the bear (old WL tradition bringing good luck) on the totem pole in front of the mercantile.
Pose for a family shot on the bridge in front of the waterfall down by the pool (outside the door at the bottom of the ramp).
Pose for a family shot on the bridge over the stream in the lobby area. Sometimes there is a PhotoPass photographer setup by the bridge in the evenings. They always have taken a photo with my camera when asked.
I’m not sure if Whispering Canyon restaurant has replaced their six foot cardboard cut out photo of a ketchup bottle, but if they have stop by during the day before they open and have your photo taken next to the bottle. At Whispering Canyon when you ask for ketchup everyone in the restaurant brings a bottle of ketchup to you. You might end up with 15 bottles at your table.
WL has many activities. One of my daughter’s favorites is to play “Smarter than a Lifeguard” at the pool. She has won some nice prizes.

Have a great trip!

Cosmos...thank you for the tips. I am reading through my camera manual since I have run out of trip details to plan. Starting with your suggestions I think I will make a list of all the places/events of which I would like a photo. Thanks again.

It isn't light and airy like say SSR---which to me is VERY light in color, open and airy feeling, not to mention HUGE.

VWL has more of a quiet, comfortable, take it down a notch appeal, at least to us. Like....coming home, which is comforting to me after being on overload in the parks! :rotfl:
