Top Dog, if I had that type/quantity of equipment, by the time I figured out what setup I should be using the image would be long gone.

Wow! No wonder my pictures stink. I don't have enough stuff. :rotfl:

Just kidding...It is not just stuff I lack. I'm just a point & shoot kind of girl. Don't have the photographic knowledge to know what to do with all that equipment anyway. :goodvibes

A good shot is 1% skill, 99% luck. I've gotten some amazing images with a simple kodak easyshare... (shocked me!) I just wish the resolutions were better. The old film cameras would allow you to zoom in seemingly indefinitely on the image if you did your own developing (so long as the focus was there). Don't worry about sun angles etc - logic will tell you one thing, while the camera tells another. The wonderful thing about the digital age is you can afford to just go with your feelings and re-try a shot as many times as you'd like.

MM - Wish I was there right now. Thanks for posting your pics.

twinklebug - I agree--Digital rocks! Am I the only one who has a hard time deleting the bad ones? It is like a memory I hate to erase even if it didn't photograph well. I do take a ton of pictures and sometimes I get lucky. I really love to take pictures and often of odd things or signs some people wouldn't photograph. DH gets much better photos of the kids than I do.

Same here! I have lots of fuzzy and blurry pics on the computer that I just can't delete. I too have the point and shoot easy share. Inside photos are really dark, but outside are usually beautiful. One of these days I'm going to figure out how to post photos and add some of my own WL shots.

Great pictures MM.

You are right. It not the camera that takes great pictures. It's the person behind the camera that takes great picture. P&S or DSLR...it's just a tool.

It used to bother me when people told me my picture are great and that I must have a good camera. WTH? Is that mean when I find people's cooking is great and they must have great pots and pans?? Dooh...

I switch to digital full time only a few years ago. Before that, I took film photography for over 25 years. Most of my lenses I have now can use on my film camera as well. If you look carefully on my gears, you can see there are couple of P&S mixed in as well. My first digital was Nikon Coolpix 900. I hated it. It was the first digital camera Nikon ever made. Shutter lag was horrible. I used it for a few weeks and put it away. Only took it out when I have too. DSLR makes photography a lot more easier. How you see the world behind that view finder is what matter.

Anyway, I am way off topic here. Let see some more WL pictures.

The picture is in the framing (or memory if you will) but not everyone's camera captures it the same same way. I have no where near the equipment or experience with a camera you have (I am the definition of a novice), but I am still happy with the photos from our trips, as should be anyone taking pictures of their trip. Bottom line is capture what YOU are seeing on YOUR vacation, regardless of your camera capabilities. Also please share them:cool1:

Most of my gears were pretty aged. I am not sure they aren really that drool worthy. LOL... The only new addition here are the Nikon P80 and the remote shutter release. In fact, the lens I used to take this picture is 32 years old. It's a non CPU manual focus lens. Talk about antique.

We just got back from WL yesterday. I can't tell you how much I loved this resort! We stayed in 3034 and had a castle view and a hidden Mickey on our balcony! The weather was cold but it was better then home with the snow! I can now say that I get "it". I can see why people would return every year. Sadly, we will not be returning anytime soon. If and when we do, it will be to WL. And this time I would make the Lodge our main destination. Because it was our first time there as a family we concentrated on the parks. But, I could just stay at the Lodge and be perfectly happy!! I do have some sad news to report, all the ducklings are gone. By the end of our week the eagles had done what they do best. Even with all of us around the pool, they still swooped in. I will still check in to the thread and look at all the beautiful pictures! Thanks for all your help in picking WL!

DH and I got back late Tuesday night from our 8 day stay at the WL. We stayed in room 5015, inner courtyard view. We had a great stay. Great service, loved our room, loved the transportation to the parks. Buses and boats quick and almost empty everyday. The weather was in the 80's until it rained on Thursday night, but we were at Cirque Du Soliel and ate at Raglan Rd, so the rain stopped by the time we were done. It then got colder...in the high 50's & 60's, then back to 70's by the time we left.

Thanks to all who helped us make this decision. Here are some photos from my trip. WARNING! I took a LOT of photos. Let me know when you have all had enough.

View from our room, 5015. This room is in the far wing of the hotel, on the Artist Point side. You can see the restaurant when looking right from our balcony. I was also suprised that on the fifth floor while walking to our room, there are little windows in the hallway which overlook the dining room of Artist Point.

Here's a window in our hallway. If you open up the shutters, you have a great view of MK, and Wishes. You can see the AstroOrbiter, and the castle, but it is behind some trees. I watched the fireworks from the window on 2 nights.

Here are some photos of some cozy little common areas around the lodge. These are open to everyone:

Balcony on the fifth floor near the rear of the hotel looking over the courtyard and the larger balcony on the fourth floor rear. Great place to take photos and get that "bearface" room view:

This is the area inside the 4th floor balcony:

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k53/steffiesunshine/IMG_5077.jpg

This is the common area with a fireplace on the 3rd and 4th floor in the front of the hotel, over the main entrance doors.

Writing desks on the 4th floor at the front of the hotel:

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k53/steffiesunshine/IMG_4738.jpg

This is the balcony at the front of the hotel, 3rd floor over and behind the carport area. This area was a little hard to find. You go up the staircase next to WCC, through the glass doors over the bridge in the front hallway, up a couple of stairs and out a small exit door on the right. No one was ever out here. I was told you can see Wishes, but it was behind the wall and you can only see a very small portion of fireworks. It was after being disappointed here that DH and I found that if you opened the shutters in our hallway on the 5th floor that you had a perfect view of Wishes.

You guys are making me homesick....and I am sitting on my own porch at my own house :rotfl2:

We had decided to do YC this next trip to save a little money (we are a family of 5 so we have to get 2 rooms or a deluxe), but seeing these pictures makes me wonder where else we can cut back to make it work.

Stormalong and walking to EPCOT is great, but there is just no place like WL!!

Just found this thread while looking for info about an upcoming trip, our first stay at the Villas at WL. Wow, WOW, WOW!!! The photos are absolutely amazing!!! Thank you all so MUCH for sharing them. :thanks: A couple questions...

I realize any fireworks visible from WL would just be whatever could be seen above the treetops. There's a photo taken from a hallway window near room 5015 (post #1266). But does anyone have a photo of any fireworks, taken outdoors, maybe from an open public balcony or from the beach, marina, pools or other common areas at WL?

The sunrise pics and foggy lake photos are truly exceptional! :thumbsup2 Are there any public area from which to watch a pretty sunset at this resort? Anyone have a pretty picture of a sunset here?

Lastly, are there any hammocks at WL? Photo, please? :goodvibes TIA!!!

As you can see these photos were taken from the driveway into the WL. The better view would be from going inside and going up one floor. There is a balcony right behind the driveport. If you know the time of the fireworks, be up there and you can view them from the right side of the balcony.:thumbsup2

There are quite a few. We just stayed in a studio, but I didn't take any room pictures before the kids messed it up. :upsidedow

Thanks! & Happy planning!

I have been to all the sites available & seen tons of photos of Wilderness Lodge, inside & out, but I still can't get enough. :surfweb:
I am obsessed!! My son (age 12) & I will be finally staying at our dream resort this year from 11-30 to 12-7-08. We have always stayed at Pop Century, Caribbean Beach, or the All Star Music/Movies Resort. I have always DREAMED of staying at the Wilderness Lodge & when my dad passed away a few years ago (only 56 years of age), I figured that life is way too short & I have decided to "splurge" this year & go for it. This is not easy for a single mom on a budget, but I know this is probably the most beautiful resort during Christmas time, my favorite time of the year!:santa: I have looked at all the photos on the All Ears Net, the photos on the threads on the DIS boards, but I just can't get enough, so I thought I would start a thread for just Wilderness Lodge Photos- all of the resort. I want room photos, bathroom photos, refrigerator photos, shower photos, pool photos, Whispering Canyon photos, etc......
We don't have to discuss best room requests, check in, or anything like that, JUST BRING ON THE PHOTOS !!!!!! Thank you to anyone that posts photos to feed my obsession. :santa: :santa: :santa:

I am a Single Mom on a budget and I agree on the "splurge"!! We are leaving in 1 week for our 2nd trip to the Lodge and for the rest of my life will cherish the memories we make.!!!!

Awww! I am soo happy and sooo sad looking at all the great WL pictures!! :wizard::guilty:We stayed there exactly a year ago and I am missing it sooo badly! We were there 4/1-4/8/08 last year.... I have been driving my husband crazy all week by randomly saying EVERY day: "Guess where we were a year ago today!? Wilderness Lodge! And we went to such and such park and ate at such and such restaurant that night!" We plan to (Ok, I plan to) watch our family videos from our trip last year - it should send my Disboard addiction into overdrive, but thats OK! We had such an amazing time and sooo very much loved the Wilderness Lodge, its what makes us keep wanting to go back!

:surfweb:Thanks for "listening" to my rant - just had to share with all my fellow WL/WDW enthusiasts out there!!

Thanks.

I think "taking it all in" is the most fun part! WL is so amazing - the arcitecture, the themeing, the ambiance, landscaping, cast members - you name it. Its a total package! I was sure that we spent as much time there as possible so that we could soak it all in and really enjoy the resort as much as the parks, restaurants and everything else that is Disney!

My boys loved the pool, playing and hanging out in the lobby, running on the beach, walking the grounds and just experiencing as many parts of the property as possible. The Electrial Light Show Pagent on the lake has always been a favorite in my family since I was little. We never miss it! We did not take part in the flag flying or guided tours, but wish we had!

Whispering Canyon is one of our most favorite experiences at WL. Its so much fun. DH and I were sure to sneak away and get a drink and just sit and relax in the loppy or a secluded nook and just reflect on our stay and our trip overall. The kids need a little "down time" just as us adults do, too! We had rockers right outside our door, so once the younger boys were alseep, we would leave DS9 in watching TV, chill-laxing, crack the door and sit on the rockers and just people watch from our floor (we had a room off the lobby) so we had a clear view of all that was going on!

Take lots of video and even more pictures. Study and appreciate all the little things and soak it all in. Because our vacations don't last forever, and the kids aren't little forever. Each visit they are a year+ older, we are all in different parts of our lives, and we cant get those moments back. They are memories that will last a life time!! :wizard:

Well, we were not disappointed & my son & I loved the WL !!! We are taking our yearly DisneyWorld Vacation again this year back to the WL !! As I mentioned in my prior posts, we have also loved staying at the POP, All Stars, & the Carribean Beach, but it is all about LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION !!! That is one of the top reasons I love the WL !!! Plus, my son & I spent a day on the water with the Sea Raycers & that was a truly magical moment for us !!!

So, pinch those pennies-- bring your lunch to work, cut corners, & try to budget the best you can & believe me, when you arrive at the Wilderness Lodge, it will have been worth it !!!!

We already have our December 09 trip booked for Dec 10-18, 2009 !!:santa::santa::santa:

ITA!!! :goodvibes:angel::wizard: Parts of our family look at us like we are rich or have 3 heads because we try to go to WDW every 2 or 3 years... Yes, it is expensive, But to us skipping the take out, minimalizing birthdays and Christmas spending, no fivilous items or splurges, and no dining out, helps us to save for the vacations we want to take... Be it Disney or elsewehere, our kids are only small once and I want them to have fun and be kids and experince things when they are young and innocent - AS A FAMILY. We cant get these years back, so I am all for making it as great as possible!!

I'm planning a trip for May 2010 and wondered if the villas had been updated. I know the lodge rooms were done, but I cannot seem to find anything about the villas. Does anyone know??

I love the pictures of the resort...keep them coming! I cannot wait until we are there next year!! My husband loves the mountains so I thought this would be a good compromise...I get my Disney and he gets his "mountains." :) I had to twist his arm to go to Florida again next year, but I absolutely love Disney and know DS 2 & DS 5 will have so much fun!

Can we get some pics of the pool area? I've only skimmed through (there are 91 pages, and there's only so much time in each day... ...). I have DD4 who would love to have a water slide like we had last year at AKL, and then we'd like to know if they have the smooth transition into the water- like at AKL, or at the beach- walk in slowly, no stairs required. Thanks very much!!

I was so excited I shot my husband a link to the info of WL. I just KNOW my folks would like this resort.

He has decided we need to get them a combo x-mas, mom and dad's days, and 40th anniversary gifts for 2010.

The pool is not zero entry. There are pics posted of the pool on Trip Advisor. I imagine there are some posted somewhere on this thread or the resort photos board, but like you said it's a lot to go through. Look the Villas up on TA and you will see a couple. :)

Just booked this yesterday for 8 nights the 1st week of October. I'm so excited and hopefully this thread/site will keep the magic going until arrival. Families 1st trip to Dis so really looking forward to visiting. Currently live @ the foothills of the Great Smokie's and look out my back door to the mountains everyday but this still seems to def offer something different. Just loving the whole nature/woodsy theme!!!:goodvibes

btw-do any of the rooms get a glimpse of the Castle and/or fireworks or do the trees block everything...just wondering. Also, I remember reading something about balconies on certain floors where you have to stand-up to see or something? Hopefully we can avoid one of these but will love it either way.

Yep - my wife and I stayed a week in WL in 2005 on our honeymoon. We checked into the honeymoon suite and our intial thoughts were -

1/ View was of the parking lot. Not impressed.
2/ The room was small.
3. It was loud - situated right next to the concierge level breakfast nook.

We stayed one night in it and armed with those three points above talked to reception the next day. Though the room cost more, I requested a pool view room as a swap. We were more than pleased with this type of room on our last couple of visits to WL. Unexpectedly, the reception staff put us in room 7123 - the Yellowstone Suite. It was bigger than our apartment! These photos don't do it justice, but here you go (new comp and no Photoshop yet, so apols about the huge pic size) -

Maybe you want to consider a 2-BR villa at VWL. They will sleep 8 ppl. One bedroom has a king bed, the 2nd br will have either 2 queens or a queen and a pull out full sleeper. And in the main living room there is another queen sleeper. And you will have a kitchen and laundry as well.

Great pictures, it took me several hours but I made it through all 93 pages today.

I've been debating with myself whether or not to go for a Treehouse Villa or the WL villas, I really like the atmosphere that these pictures depict.

Honestly, if you take this resort out of Orlando and put it in the mountains somewhere with no other attractions around it I believe I'd still want to go to it.

Cuddos to you!:thumbsup2 That is exactly why I removed all of our photos from this thread. I was tired of people coming on here and saying that they didn't have time to look through "all the posts" to find what they wanted to see, so they would ask that you just show them their request. Thanks, I'm definitely interested and will PM you when I will have a chance (if I have the ability to PM with so few posts).

I actually downloaded several of the pictures to my computer throughout the thread if they were in a series taken from the same spot but just a slightly different view and then used some panorama software I have to make larger panoramic views just to get a more full view in one image as opposed to seeing the view in 2, 3 or even 4 images. Yeah, it's a little overkill on my part but I'm one of those people that wants to see as much of the photo as possible and if I can combine 3 or 4 photos to give a more full view then I'll do that.

When I do go I plan on taking many photos even to the extent of being able to make full 360 degree panos where you can, on a computer navigate the picture to "look around". I'll either do it all manually one picture at a time or get some lenses for my camera. I've even seen full 360 degree panorama videos where you can actaully navigate around the video!

I've only been to Orlando twice, once in 1974 when I was 5 and once in 1997 with my niece and her husband (who was a true Mickey freak lol). He passed away about a year after that trip (at 24) so I've been wanting to make another trip sort of in his memory ever since.

I know that he'd have loved the Wilderness Lodge!

I've been pricing everything from rental houses to the cheapest Disney resort and this one looks like the only one that really suits my wishes. The Fort Wilderness cabins look good too but the WL really has everything I want it seems and by renting points it looks like I can do what I want for cheaper than the All Star resorts!

I want to send a big THANK YOU to all who have posted pictures here. I have to admit, I skipped around a bit while "working" but they are beautiful. My family and I are going in September, my parents are taking us as a Christmas gift. I am so grateful!!!! It will be my sons (4 & 3) first trip to Disney - how spoiled, it took me 35 years to make it to the Wilderness Lodge :rotfl:

After seeing the pictures (some of you are wonderful photographers - AMAZING!) I am more excited than ever. Looking forward to my magical trip this September!

njprincess,

We haven't really decided on the date yet. I have my Aunt and sister helping figure out what weekend would work best for my parents without tipping them off about the trip. I should know real soon. I am hoping it is the first or second weekend. We plan on doing a Fri-Mon or maybe even a Fri-Tues trip. I will keep you posted as I figure it out. I am planning to book in August this year though (yikes--next month-WOOT!) I already have a semi itinerary laid out on paper.

Great pictures. I couldn't help but make a panorama from the ones that were in line and possible to line up. The one that displays below is smaller than the full size of course.

Wow, that's awesome VaBeachGuy. I have no photoshop skills at all so that is amazing to me. Great job!

Thanks, I have a lot of fun doing it. Photoshop does have a panorama option but I used a program called PTGui (http://www.ptgui.com/). You just load the pictures and if they're in line with eachother it'll automatically make the panorama for you. In some cases if one photo is off a little and the software can't quite work it out you might have to go in and set control points to tell the software where identical points are in the 2 pictures, then it takes those control points and can line it up.

Sometimes it works out perfectly, sometimes it gives you some odd pictures lol.

Be warned though, it can be addicting lol. When I first got the software I was taking pictures of anything in my view just to play with the software. I even went so far one time as to make a full 360 degree panorama of my back yard that you can move the picture around and look all around the whole yard.

The key is to take pictures with panoramas in mind so that the images will fit together properly.

Just be sure to stand in one spot and take the pictures so that part of the scene from the last picture is in the next picture. That way they can be stitched together properly.

This one is from 2007. My sister and I were eating at WCC and wanted to look around the resort a bit and I took a few pics. I think this one come out the best of the bunch I took. Anyway that is the reason why I am now staying at the lodge for the first time this Sept. Cuddos to you!:thumbsup2 That is exactly why I removed all of our photos from this thread. I was tired of people coming on here and saying that they didn't have time to look through "all the posts" to find what they wanted to see, so they would ask that you just show them their request. They don't take into account how much time out of their lives someone has spent taking photos and downloading them so they can observe them! If you want to see more photos of the Wilderness Lodge, I would be more than happy to share them with you! Just PM me and I will send them.:thumbsup2 Hoping you and yours has a MAGICAL TRIP!:cool1:

It was seeing your photos on this thread DizneyNutz and having you help me figure out how to upload pics that got me interested in getting a DSLR. And I ended up with my pockets much lighter! :rotfl: You have many beautiful pictures of the lodge and I'm glad I got to see them - thanks!

Aww sorry to see that your pictures are gone. :sad2:

Your photos were some of my favorites of WL and inspired me to spend more time there taking pictures on our last two trips. In fact, in May we drove over from SSR to just enjoy the lodge and I took a ton of photos of all the details. Glad I saw yours before they were gone!

I apologize for being an ole fuddy. It struck a wrong nerve when a couple of people visited the thread and said it was too large for their valuable time to look through it all and they just wanted someone to point them to the exact page where they could see what they were looking for. Some of the things they were requesting to see where in several of my photos, so I in a moment of haste went onto photobucket and deleted all the WL photos from photobucket. They don't even consider everyones time they spent downloading them all to Photo Bucket and then from there onto here. Anyhow you all have been very kind and I still visit the thread to see everyone else's photos to keep us excited and were counting down until early December again.:cool1: I hope you all have a trip planned and it turns out MAGICAL:thumbsup2

DisneyNutz, you have MADE this thread what it is !!!! Please don't let a few "it is all about me" selfish people ruin it for the rest of us. It is sad in life that we have folks that are so focused on themselves, that they don't take the time to think how long it takes to upload these photos onto the Dis boards, folks like that are not worth your time !!! I can not say how much I appreciate all your BEAUTIFUL photos & hope they return, but that is completely your choice & I respect your decision. I want you to know that when I started this thread, you are the one that made the anticipation of my first WL Trip in Dec 2008 more magical than I can express with your photos & I know many others feel the same way I do, so THANK YOU !!!!!! :santa::santa::santa:

I'm adding my 2 cents too. I love all the pics, that is the purpose of this thread. If others are too lazy to look then they aren't serious about checking out the WL, IMHO. WL is my home away from home and I enjoying looking at these pics to get my "Disney Fix" when I'm home sick and that includes yours DisneyNutz, which are some of the best.

Awwww - that's so nice DizneyNutz. They really are beautiful. I also can relate to how you felt although it doesn't compare in magnitude to the amount of effort you put into this thread. I responded to someone's request for pics one time. I got a "thank you - any others?" after taking all the time to pick them out, process, upload and post. For some reason that day it bummed me out. Normally a thank you is plenty although this time it felt more like the OP really was writing "bump". And then the next poster got huge thanks etc, etc. I'm sure (or hope) the OP didn't really mean to snub me but at the time I felt that way and was a wee bit PO'd. :badpc: :lmao:

We'll to be at VWL in Nov so I hope to have more pics to add to this thread. Until then I'll continue to live vicariously thru all these wonderful pictures. A big thanks from me also to everyone who contributes here!!!

I'd love it if you ever started a web page like "topdog" (http://www.dewlama.com/Public/HTML/Disney_DIS.html)has for all your Disney pics. I miss seeing them!!!

Btw, thanks topdog for adding all your pictures. I LOVE them!!!

That's very nice of you to say. Start a web Page:rotfl2: Oh my goodness no! I don't even consider myself a hobbyist photographer. I have taken very few photos since leaving Disney last Dec. The camera is idling however in anticipation of WL in Dec again! Topdog is a photographer and takes great photos and should have a website for them.:thumbsup2

Oh, but your photos are so great! I really enjoyed looking at them. Even if you had just a Photobucket page where we could all go and drool over your WL pictures -- it would be worth it!! I look forward to seeing your pictures from your upcoming trip. You better take lots and make sure to share them...or else!! :lmao: (Totally kidding, don't want you to think I'm threatening you on here.)

Thanks TopDog. It was a Canon RAW file photo and I just used PSE 7 to process it. I am not very knowledgeable about processing them, and sometimes go a little heavy, but I tend to like the heavy contrast. It is funny that you mentioned the detail in my photo, because that is what I always love about your photos. I figured you may be using L-Glass lenses. I just got a new lens for our next trip. 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM. I am excited about trying it out.

DizneyNutz - i forgot to ask what camera did you use for the photos? I am going back thru all the pages again - I start at the back every day at work and at night go back thru the front again (love all the photos) and I don't remember if you had said what type of camera you used. I saw a post about the Canon Raw file - again pictures are amazing. I will be upgrading my camera before November (early Anniversary present to myself). Thanks so much for posting your wonderful pictures.

Thanks for your compliments. I have the Canon Rebel xti. It is already an old model because they have already introduced the next model. It is a mid range camera (not your typical put it in your pocket camera, but also not up to the more professional level of digital DSLR cameras). It can do way more than my photographic abilities call for however, so I will continue using it. If you do not, envision yourself carrying around a full size camera every where you go, then I would not reccommend it. If you are getting into hobby level photography however, I love mine. DW says she don't know how I can stand to carry all that weight around everywhere we go at Disney, but I enjoy the end results.:thumbsup2

They were both shot using the following settings. Aperature f/5.6, Shutter 4 Sec., ISO 400 and focal length 28mm.:thumbsup2 As far as RAW vs JPEG I ALWAYS prefer RAW because it is not a Lossy format to image storage, meaning the camera stores the photo as it was taken and you can adjust it later at home with your photo imaging software if needed.:cool1:

I know exactly what you mean and it has become part of our Christmas Holiday as well. My first visit to Disney was in early December 1997 for a business trip and we have gone every year around that time ever since (late Nov, early Dec). And ever since the VWL opened, we've been staying there for our Christmas Holiday trip:santa:. Now when I go back to VWL in March or May, it seems like something is missing:confused3.
