Ohhhh, I can't wait to buy into the WL!!! It's all I talk about, I drive my husband crazy! :)
Keep bugging him until you make it happen:rotfl2: We initially bought SSR and tried to get into the WL at the 7 month window.:sad2: This place is popular at the holiday season:cool1: We sold our SSR membership and bought a WL resale and have not looked back. WL is where we want to be.:worship:
We spent a few evening warming by both of these spots for a little while.

They hold their Chamionship (Super Bowl) playoffs at the Disney Sports complex. They are also accompanied by all the cheerleaders also holding their own competitions I believe. For the past two years teams have been kicked out of Disney for unruly behavior (fights) at the All Star Resort. The cheerleaders do not restrict their cheers to the competition either. They go everywhere (parks, Transportation, etc.) in packs with non-stop cheering:eek: Wish you well with your WL Endeavor:cool1:

I would love to be there for an extended stay. Here is another view from slightly different angle that you see when you exit the elevators.:thumbsup2 The best thing about it is that the largest majority of the time, it truly is that serene and peaceful and you can really kick back in your own little world with few distractions.

DizneyNutz,
What kind of camera do you use? Your pics are gorgeous. I am going to get new cameras before our first stay at WL in January. Maybe you can give me some ideas.
Thanks for all the great pics!

Your pictures are beautiful, but they seem abnormally bright to me. The WL isn't that brightly lit even with the naked eye. Do you use a really long exposure, or photoshop them?

You must use some kinda long shutter settings and a tripod, preferably a shutter release also. But I do also adjust them somewhat to lighten the details of the lodge in the entire picture. You are correct, if you were to post a picture taken without using flash taken within the lodge, must of them would be unfavorable and not real pleasant to look at on a computer, while lovely to look at with your naked eye in person. I hope that makes sense. Our eyes see the image oone way while a camera sees and captures it another. I try to find a balance in adjusting the photos, so they look as pleasant on the computer as they did to my naked eye when I shot the photo. Mostly fill lighting is added, like I said to fill in those dark nooks and crannies. Also when shooting in very low (warm) mood lighting you will find that a picture often takes on a grainy hue. That is when you need to use a noise filter to remove that effect from the photo. You made a good observation of the photos however.

A camera that will shoot in Raw Mode and reading the book by Bryan Peterson "Understanding Exposure". Very good reading if you like dabbling in photography.:thumbsup2 That's all I am ( A dabbler). I rarely take any photos at all unless my wife and I go off to somewhere we don't venture often, we go to WDW, or a few of the grandsons. Other than that I am not a photographer at all. But that book really helped me understand a lot and shooting in raw offers you some second chances (some call it a crutch, I call it a saved opportunity) if you find out you need them once you get home.

Is this not more what you SAW when you were there? Although this was the correct exposure for the shot there is a lot of lost detail in the photo. People that don't have a pre-existing memory of the location would not know of the detail unless lightened up a bit:thumbsup2 While it is a better mood setting shot, it is not a very detailed shot and I am trying to display the lodge for anyone who may not have ever experienced it.:cool1:

We will definitely take time to relax. Now that we own DVC we don't try to do it all every trip. I'm planning to sit in both WL lobby and VWL lobby to just enjoy being there. Do you know if there is a checkers table in the VWL lobby? My boys will play anywhere we find a table like Frontierland, Ft. Wilderness store, Tom Sawyer's Island, and are always looking for another spot. :thumbsup2

WOW DisneyNutz I can't get over how beautiful your pictures are. I just bought a camera like yours (Canon Rebel XTI) but haven't opened the box yet. I'm scared that it will be too complicated for me to use. It sound like you do more with your camera than just aim and take pictures. Do you think someone could learn how to use this in 2 days (that's when I leave for WL) or should I just take it back and use my cheap camera. I suppose it will still take better pics that the Kodak easy share I have.
Another question for you DisneyNutz-since you know a lot about the WL, do you happen to know what grocery store is the closest and is it far from the lodge?

TAKE IT BACK! NO WAY:eek:
The first thing to realize, is that you won't be holding your camera out at arms length anymore and looking at the back of the camera to frame up your shots. You must use the eyepiece (diopter) now. But that is the location of some other very important information your camera is telling you when setting up a shot, so it is good to peek in there and see all the little secrets:lmao:
What kind of lens did you get with it? This will dictate to some extent the type of shots you will be able to take.
What kinds of shots do you like to take most often? The quick settings on the dial on top Have (portrait, landscape, macro, sports and I believe twilight portrait.) That should cover some scenes and ride photos (in Good light)
Do you have a tripod! A must for those shots in dark areas (Night scenes)
Do you have a software for working with photos shot in RAW mode? If not, shooting in the quick modes above will automatically capture in .jpg format same as your old camera. But you have this great new tool at your disposal and it is a must that you learn how to use it (if not before this trip, get up with me after you get back and we'll talk about Raw format photos.
If you have the raw photo software and a tripod, Then we are cooking with gas.:cool1: I would say to you that we learn how to use the manual mode at this point and shoot mostly in raw. I could easily talk you through it. If I can learn it, so can you:thumbsup2 And you must learn it eventually, now that you have this wonderful tool to use.
I have a map that I would like to pass along to you, but it is a PDF format, so I have to e-mail it to you. It shows the location of the crossroads shopping center just beyond the Downtown Disney hotels. There is a grocery store there. (kinda expensive, but close) We always use the Super Wal Mart. A little farther out, but less expensive. Anyway if you would like the map, just send us a PM with your e-mail address and I will forward it to you.
I hope some or all of this is helping you in some way. I will be around for a couple of hours, so I'll be waiting to hear back.:thumbsup2
Wishing you and yours a Magical Trip pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

DW counts down the days until our next trip all year long, then the week before it actually gets here she is slamming on the brakes, knowing that it will all be over waaay too quick.:rotfl2:
That's exactly how I feel!!! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who does this. 2 years I planned the trip, dreaming about the Wilderness Lodge, the week before I almost got a little sad because I knew it would be over so soon. When were you there in December? You may be hidden in them somewhere:thumbsup2 We were there Nov. 29 and checked out Dec. 5. We know exactly what you mean. DisneyNutz..Thanks for the wonderful photos!! We are taking our friends in April to the villas and I have shared many of your photos with them. The wife has never been to WDW and the husband has only been once as a child. The husband's father contracted with Disney to provide the white landscape rock for the Magic Kingdom when it was first built. I can't wait to share the "world" with them!:)

The funniest part was that Disney offered my friend's dad Disney stock in lieu of cash payment. He turned down the stock because he said that he didn't think that WDW would be successful because "nobody would go that far to see a mouse" :rotfl::rotfl:

That is located on the concierge level. The elevator will not take you up there unless your room key is designated for that floor.

We initially bought at SSR and we were able to book the VWL at the 7 month window in Sept. When we tried to book the VWL in December at the 7 month window, it was all booked up. We sold SSR and bought VWL and have never looked back. We love DVC especially at the WL.:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Disneynuts - I did the same thing except instead of SSR it was OKW. I purchased OKW on a resale in 1999 and initially stayed at the WLV right after it was built and then a couple of years later continued to book there until the Christmas of 2005:santa:. I tried to book at the 7 month window and waitlisted the first 10 days of December but it never came through until we were half way through our 10 day vacation at SSR. Needless to say we moved to VWL on day 5 but I came home that Christmas, sold OKW and purchased WLV and I too have never looked back. Don't get me wrong, I like OKW and SSR but I got bit by the WL bug! I am going to start calling on Monday to make my December 2009 ressie in a dedicated 2 bedroom to take my sister, BIL, and two nieces. I can't wait.

WL experts -
Hi! I've posted this a couple times on the WL thread but have had no luck yet w/ a response. Please help! :flower3:
To get a king bed room w/ full bath (not a disabled access room), we'd need to book woodsview, would that be right? Also, any tips on what woodsview room area to request?
Any help appreciated, we're trying to choose btwn WL and CBR.
If anyone's stayed at both CBR & WL, can you please compare the pool areas?
Thanks!

Our trip was so amazing! I didn't think we could top our last trip as far as special memories, but we did! The WL at Christmas time was even more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. One of my favorite things to do every morning was to get up early, before everyone else, get a coffee and go down to the special 4th floor sitting area over the entrance. I would just sit in a rocking chair, near the fire and look out over the lobby and take pictures of course! :lovestruc

This is how I took the shot.
http://www.fideela.com/vwtopdog/Photos/Disney/Parasailing.jpg
Strap on a parachute. Tow by a boat in the lagoon doing about 20 knots with a 650 feet long rope. I was floating about 500 feet high up there.
I did this twice while I was there. The first time, I only took a small point & shoot digital camera with me up there. I shot mostly digital video. I still has all the video files. If some one want to see it, let me know and I will post them on my website. Let me warn you, they are big files. Some are over 100 mb.
The second time, I say to heck with it, I took my full size digital camera set up with me. It was a little hairy because the wind was low. I was afraid because I thought I was going to fell into the water with the camera. It can happen. Luckily, the wind did pick up and I was flying again.

What an awesome view from up there.:cool1: DW and I were actually planning to do this on our last trip, but opted for the Ice at Gaylord Palms and the Segway tour at Epcot. We still have the parasailing on our list for furture new things to do.

Especially this one. It shows how high the Geyser is actually erupting. A viewpoint tough to capture from ground level.:thumbsup2

Hey - Topdog - is that mountain looking thing in the top center of your photo Mt. Everest? Or is my sense of distance off completely? Great photo by the way and I did check out your site. I just can't get enough of my WL.

Thanks cciglian. Yes, that is the Mt. Everest Expedition. It was still under construction at the time, 09/2005. Good eyes.
I will be going to WL next month so that means more pictures. No parasailing this time though.

omg :scared1:
I kind of wondered if that is how you got that shot. :worship:
Dory will just enjoy looking at yours and never plan to try to get that photo of her own.
Just thinking about it I have to find a happy place...find a happy place. I'm such a big chicken!
Thanks for sharing it with us.
I love height so parasailing doesn't bother me. To be honest, it is relatively safe to parasail at WDW. It's probably the best view to see WDW. You get to see every single park all in one shot. You do have to sign a wavier before leaving the dock in case of accident. Don't be a chicken. Just do it and enjoy the view. You will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
The only other time I ran into trouble from parasailing was when I did it at Aruba year and a half ago. I barely reach the top and the boat die. The chute and I fell into the ocean. Luckily, I come down slowly so it's not a free fall. My camera did even get wet. However, I was about 500 feet away from the beach and who know what is swimming under my feet. If there were any sharks at all, I would be doomed.
This is when I was up there.

Parasailing has the best view of WDW IMO. The only quirky part is the boat can only circle around at certain area of the lagoon. It does not go in front of WL. Therefore, you can only get the sideview of WL.
Here is a great view of the EPCOT globe.

topdog that sounds awesome! I would love to try that but I think my DH would have a heartattack. He doesn't have the same sense of adventure and fun that I do. I haven't had a chance to check out your site yet, but plan on it soon.
To all that have posted pictures on this thread THANK YOU! I love the LODGE. I have had the pleasure of staying there on both my trips. I miss this place like you can't imagine. Most days it is helpful to look at all the beautiful pictures, on occassion it is torture! I hope the pictures keep coming.
You definitely should try parasailing. I remember you can choose how high you want to go. Of course, I choose the highest they can allow. But then I am that crazy. Your DH probably won't get a heartattach until he sees how much it cost for parasailing. LOL... It cost $120 for 30 minutes. Then again, I had the premium package at the time, therefore all resort activities were included. It didn't cost me a penny extra. In fact, I went up there twice. It's the most breathtaking experience you can ever have. Only other activities that can come close is skydiving.
If you do visit my site, click the "Back to Main Index" and it will show more Disney pictures. I am going back to WL next month planning to shoot a lot more pictures. I might post them on a different site. So stay tune...

Thanks DizneyNutz! That means a lot coming from you. I think your pictures of the WL are the most beautiful I've seen. :goodvibes
It was so great to go out on the balcony and see the Geyser erupting. When we went in 2006 the lobby bridge and stream were closed off for refurbishment and the geyser wasn't going. We were so surprised to get into our room and when my DD pulled back the curtains, she yelled "Mommy the geyser is going off!" I'll never forget that and watching the Electrical Water Pageant from our balcony. We made such special memories. :cloud9:

topdog I checked out your website and looked at all the pictures. You have so many of the lodge from different angels. I loved trying to figure out where you were at. I have so many places to explore there yet!
mechtech the sunrise pictures were beautiful. There is nothing like the quiet first rays of sun at the lodge. I always relished those moments when the sun began to shine through the curtains and the rest of the family was sleeping.

I have just enjoyed looking through this wonderful thread of pics! Thank you all.
Is it my imagination, but has Disney cut back on the decorations of the lobby at WL? It seemed as though the first pics posted here at the beginning of the thread during the Christmas holiday had tons of garland draped on every floor in the lobby? These last pics show the garland only draped across one floor?
Anyone who has gone there every Christmas, what is your feeling?

I have a lot of pictures from inside the lodge too. However, I got tired after I process so many of the outside pictures. I also have a few of the villa building plus the Walt Disney museum room. Maybe I need some motivation to process and post them.
BTW, I take it everyone here took the WL tour presented by Ranger Stan.

I looked back at my 06, 07 & this years 08 pictures and they all are decorated the same with the exception of the tree. They do change the tree around some years. In 2006 it was on a base about 6 feet off the floor. My older photos are not on this computer, but if I think about it, I will check them sometime, but I believe they are the same also.:thumbsup2 Not a good picture, but here it is in 06.

Thanks for the nice compliments - they mean a lot coming from such talented photographers!
I tend to wake up early when I'm psyched up about something. I had a lot of lovely mornings tiptoeing out of the room while my family slept, with my refillable mug in one hand and my camera in the other. I was worried that some of the shots wouldn't come out very well since I didn't have my tripod, but at least a few were fine.
I've loved this thread for building my anticipation before our trip, and now it's great for reliving the great times we had at the WL.

This time was a lot of fun because I had a Courtyard lobby room, so I walked around taking different angles of the tree and lobby. I also loved using the stairs to walk down to the lobby and sitting in the great sitting areas the WL offers. It was the best! :lovestruc

Nope! On the side of the building that we were on, which I believe was the south wing, there is only 6 floors. We were room 6157. Concierges is the 7th floor.
I'm very unsure of how the layout of the building works and how some areas have 6 floors and others 7. DH tired to explain it but he just confused me more :confused3 I guess it's the natural blonde in me!

It was crazy!! I got out of bed and went to peak out the curtains and saw it! I said out loud "Holy cow!" That was the day we went to AK. Wow, have only touched the surface with this thread but all the photo's are fantastic ! was after a bit of advice WL rooms. We have never been to WDW before & are going in Dec for our honeymoon. We have been looking at a standard room on the Club Level vs 1 Bedroom Suite.
For our stay it's about $2600 more of the suite and I was just wondering what the differences are & if anyone has booked both which was better?

mickeysmyboy...WOW-what a picture! Gorgeous! I think some people have an amazing talent on these boards for taking pics-accident or not. Personally-I think that some of them should be sent to WDW & made into postcards-especialy the ones from resorts. Or even just for advertising the resorts. Great job people-I wish I could capture shots that good!!:goodvibes

The pictures on page 64 of this thread are from a one bedroom in the villas. I am sure they one bedroom in the Lodge would be about the same layout.:thumbsup2 A lot more room a washer and dryer, full kitchen, jacuzzi type bath tub, plus seperate shower, etc. If you would not be using most of the amenities, then it would be a waste of your money. They are nice though:thumbsup2

hello all, I was wondering about club lvl and the food. What is offered? I saw some pics on the above link fur allears. Very great site, love that place! But Im just wondering what it provides to decided accordingly for food.
I never in my life thought we would ever stay at WL. We came back from ASmo last month and now we are planning a vacation for next Nov/Dec with my folks. So the Jr Suite at Club Level would be awesome! (plus cost is divided in half!! :) )
But I really need to know about the club level services and the food offered. I also read that full acess to beer is available. Is this true? ANd can you bring one back to the room?
Thanks!!

Ok, so apparently we are one too many people for the Jr Suite. ACK! Even though we have 2 toddlers. Anybody suggest a way around this? I was really looking forward to this... :(:(:( We have 4 adult and a 14 yr old and a 3 and 4 yr old. I know we could all fit easily, but max people is 6 not 7 no matter their size. Is there anyway we can just pay a little extra?

look into a 2 bedroom villa. You would have to look into renting points from a DVC owner or Disney may have some open for reservations. The 2 bedrooms sleep 8 people. There's a king in one room and either 2 queens or 1 queen/ 1 double sleeper sofa in the other bedroom plus a queen sleeper sofa in the living room. Two bathrooms, a full kitchen, and a washer/dryer, too! The only bad part is not having that awesome view of the courtyard area right from your room. ;)

The 2 bedroom units are wonderful. For a few less "points" and if the kitchen and laundry aren't important, two studios would give you double the bathrooms, which it sounds to me like you'll need. A studio has a Queen bed and a pull out double bed/couch as well as a kitchenette (small fridge, microwave, toaster & coffeemaker). The problem with this plan is you can request, and they will try to accommodate, but they cannot guarantee the studios will be near each other.
Personally, the view isn't that important to me at WL (unless it's that dreaded rooftop view I had one year LOL) I love the peace and quiet of the resort as well as the boats & easy access to MK / Ft W and the Contemporary.

Yes this is strange. I don't know why it would resize the photos that you were able to post on the other link. We have never experienced this.:confused3 It may have something to do with how they were inserted on the post seeing that they are side by side instead of one over the other.

I have read a review of the WL stating that the Trout Pass Bar and Territory Lounge both offer limited food items. I am not sure but DW advises that she believes she remembers chips. However the Roaring Forks Snack Bar is just at the upper end of the pool also.:thumbsup2

I don't have many because we didn't stay there but we had dinner at AP. These were all taken on my basic Canon because I was wacky and left my awesome camera at home....
All from September 23, 2008

I am sure you all can understand how freaking hard it was to get a snap shot of this without a little kid running on that bridge and ruining the picture. But I understand why they must :)

Not sure if I knew there was a cute little bunny there in my picture at the bottom, I know now.

We made it! Inside Artist Point at oh...... 7PM ish, it was a MNSSHP night and we were seated looking over a WL corridor leading to the MK boats so we saw a lot of costumes.

Who doesn't go to WL and not get a picture of this?
We're going back to WL in September 2009 so I'll make sure to take more and better pictures! :goodvibes

Wow! No wonder my pictures stink. I don't have enough stuff. :rotfl:
Just kidding...It is not just stuff I lack. I'm just a point & shoot kind of girl. Don't have the photographic knowledge to know what to do with all that equipment anyway. :goodvibes
Can't wait to see your pictures! Have a wonderful time. pixiedust:
