I'm glad you like the pictures. Unfortunately, we didn't just recently return from WL. Those are pictures from our 2004 trip. But, in January we're going back to WL and staying in a 2 bdrm villa. It's my favorite resort. Here's a few more pictures to feed our WL addiction. In 2004 we were there for 14 days and had booked a Silver Falls pool view room for 3 nights, and a standard view room for the rest of the trip. Disney doesn't like to move you, so got to spend the entire trip in the pool view room. Our room was 4th from the end nearest the boat dock. Our room number was 2011. It was a great location.

Here's some pictures of Whispering Canyon Cafe. Make sure you ask for a table in the main dining room. That's where all the fun's at.
ITA. We just got back from a wonderful stay and that was my only disappointment. We booked a table but were put in the area partitioned off from the main room so we could hear all the fun going on but couldn't see or be a part of it - very disappointing but I didn't know there was a separate section when I booked the table. Will post pics of the Lodge in a day or so. Apart from that meal everything was perfect.

im so excited i can't stand it!!! I keep going around saying...30 more days...wow 30 more...just 30...Bae...we only have 30 more days!!!

My husband pretty much knows how many more days and he doesn't even have to ask!! :cool1:

Thanks for sharing the pictures! 14 days at the lodge - what fun. We've never done more than 5. And how great that you didn't have to change rooms. Love to see more pics when you get back from your January trip!:goodvibes

I'd certainly recommend this Segway tour. It starts from Fort Wilderness and you learn about the plants, trees and wildlife as well as visiting the horses at the Tri-Circle D ranch and going across to Wilderness Lodge - and it's a lot of fun along the way with very fun guides and even Disney trivia quizzes! (You can just see the Contemporary Resort and Space Mountain in the background).

Most afternoons they have duck races for the kids - they line up and drop their ducks into Silver Creek Falls and the winner gets a small prize each time.

Oh, my gosh -- we love the duck races!! I have pictures from 7 years ago when my dh was the "duck dumper" and ds (age 8 at the time) was taking part in the race! What a great memory! :goodvibes

One of the many delights of WL is the wildlife - extremely tame rabbits and lots of ducks who like to use the pool!!! Even when there were loads of people in it they came in for a swim too - the kids loved it as you can imagine!!

You know, this actually freaked my youngest DS out so much on our last trip, that he got out of the pool and wouldn't get back in. Personally, I thought it was funny. It's not like he's not used to them. My DH's parents have 6 ducks, along with at least a dozen chickens and 2 geese.

Thank you DisneyNDecember, Disney loving Iowan, tiggerlvr27 and luvfigment for your kind comments. I loved wandering round seeing all the wonderful themeing and details.

I was surprised at how many activities there were at the pool and beach for all ages as well as the duck races - chalk art, giant jenga and giant checkers, beach and pool games, dodgeball, crab soccer, water basketball, bingo and pool parties with music, games and dancing - plus just enjoying the cool water, the slide and hot tubs - bliss!!

Wow DiBerry!!!!!!!!! You knew EXACTLY what I was asking for when I asked for photos "out of the norm"--- those are GREAT !!!!!!!! I love the photo of the Hidden Mickey showerhead (nice & clean as well-- I notice this stuff)!!!

I love the little photo of the rabbit coming directly up to you for some breakfast!!! The head dress, the seating areas, the chairs by the desk. It is ALL IN THE DETAILS !!!! Your photos show the details so beautifully!!!!

This thread had the same effect on our trip. When I first saw this thread we had a MK view room at the Poly for our December trip. Looking at all these pictures made me realize that the only resort I wanted to stay at in December was the WL. Luckily I was able to change our ressie before they got booked up for our week. I was even able to get a room with bunk beds, which is the type of room our DS's have wanted since our first trip to WDW.

Never fear!

As soon as I pull up I will be snapping pictures left and right!

When I got my tax refund the FIRST thing I did was go out and buy a 8MP Cannon EOS Rebel with a CF card that can hold over 500 pics at a time!
(Depending on the setting)

Now i wanted to get a "Disney" lens too so i can REALLY zoom in but alas, that has escaped me this trip!

So as soon as September comes I will be posting while we are there!!!

You don't have to have a zoom lens to capture most things DISNEY unless you just can't get close enough.:thumbsup2 Most of the time you will find you are wanting the wide view instead of zoomed.:cool1: Looking forward to your pictures.

I saw this in the lobby but I actually have no idea what it is. It looks like it might be used for transporting logs on the railroad. Can anyone enlighten me please and what is it called?

That's a railroad hand car. Two people would pump the middle handle to make them move along the rail. I think it was just used to travel faster when building. As far as I know, they were only used for human transport rather than carrying anything like logs, but I could be mistaken.

Yes it was an angel. It was there when we arrived. This was in 2001. The villas I believe were about a year old. We will be there again on Nov 29. Just can't wait.

This was from the 7th floor club level. Our room was on the southside of the lodge, but if you went around to the north hallway there was a set of windows almost to the end of the hallway. Just open the shutters and you could see the castle and watch fireworks as well. I bet any room on that side would give you a great view.

Great photos everyone and I hope you don't mind and if you do please let me know. I am hoping to use your room view photos to make a separate thread to show the views from different areas of the WL. Courtyard, Inner courtyard, Woods views and VWL views from different floors and sides of the hotel. So I am going through this thread, the room view thread and the FAQ thread trying to compile as many room views as possible and if the poster didn't post a room number I'm using Ronald Ducks room map and numbers to try to approximate the number.

You're going to love the Lodge!!! We stayed there on our first disney trip 3 years ago and it was so beautiful - such a great atmosphere aswell, feels really homely :goodvibes I can't wait to go back, we've not stayed at the villas before - so that part is going to be all new and exciting for us :banana:

You are so lucky going when all the christmas decor is up and everything, thats when I'd love to visit - so I'm hopeing maybe our next trip will be a december one - might be a couple of years away but it will be worth it :cutie:

Don't worry, LOTS of photos will be posted ... I'll probably need a full thread :laughing: My soon to be hubbie and I have competitions to see who can take the most photos each day we are there :rotfl:

How is the new tower at the Contemporary Tower coming along??? :surfweb: It only had a bare skeleton of iron when we were at WL/WDW in April. Any word as to when they will begin selling the spectulated DVC units??? :confused:

GRENDALYNN,

The Contemporary DVC towers are coming along - they are a fairly solid frame, with the individual inner walls pretty well framed up now, and the walkway to the 4th floor at contemporary up as well. Some kind of bar/restaurant/lookout hump is sitting atop the tower units...not sure what that's going to be, but it looks to be facing Magic Kingdom. It still needs an outer skin, landscaping, glass, and all the interiors...but it actually looks like a building.

Dodie we were in the same unit just a few weeks back... I had wanted the other side of the building but I LOVED it!!! The corner room lay-out is much better IMHO than the standard layout. Kitchen does have less storage though. I'll post my pics ... uh... once I find the missing SD card :confused:

I just want to post a quick THANK YOU to everyone that has posted photos and info on the WL. My DH and I took the boat over there on our trip to WDW last December and we were just awed by the beauty of the place. Previously we had stayed at the Grand Floridian, POFQ, and CBR. None compares to the WL! We were a little sad that we didn't have plans to come back to Disney until my grandson's 5th birthday--3 years away. :eek:

When we recieved the free dining pin code from Disney, with December dates...well...:woohoo: ...we were booked before you could say "YIPPEE!!"

Now we are headed there Dec 14 (our anniversary) through our grandson's birthday (Dec. 15) and on through Dec. 20. I can! not! hardly! wait, and thanks to the good people on this board that have been so generous with their advice and info, I knew to request an "inner courtyard view, lobby" (aka "bear face") room!

Thanks so much to all! You are the best!

Well, it's at the far end of the pool really, rather than to the right when you're actually there. It's hardly any distance at all. There's a walkway from the beach past the geyser to the boat dock.

OK we have been back for over a week now and i haven't posted ANY pics!! I feel horrible!!! I uploaded all my pics to my myspace page. Everyone is more than welcome to go look. And DisneyNDecember pictures do this place NO justice!!! We stayed in room 4045 and it was wonderful! Evertime I got off the elevator i kicked off my shoes and walked barefoot!!! ( I also had to buy a lil 7.0 MP camera RIGHT before we left because my $800 canon rebel xti broke!!! I was FREAKING OUT!!! I hope these pics are good enough!)

I hope the OP won't mind me answering this question but I love this pic and it shows it really well. At the top middle you see the boat dock jutting out into the lake. Come down from that and you'll see a light brown more or less circular area to the right of the pool and hot tubs. That's the geyser.

From WL you follow the trail across to FW. You'll see a number 18 in a blue circle towards the bottom of the FW map and a small black rectangle just above it. This is the FW Pavilion where Mickey's Backyard BBQ takes place and is the meeting place for the Segway tour. About a mile from WL.

The timing of this is hilarious. The -in spelling of our name is unusual I think. (Though it's always felt right to me). While waiting at the bus stop at Hollywood Studios, Mom and I befriended a lovely couple there with their two twin grandchildren. One of the twins was named Kristin. When Mom told them that's my name, too, the lady asked - "With an -IN, too?" :laughing: She then told us how rare that is.

I bought mine at Sam's. It's an Olympus Stylus 1010 - 10.1 Megapixel. The video camera on it isn't great - makes the person filming sound like Minnie Mouse, and the colors are too bright - but I think it takes pretty good pictures. I plan on using it a lot on Halloween, trying out all the different features. I should have done all that before our Disney trip, but... live and learn.

We just booked WL yesterday and I've finally finished looking at EVERY photo in this thread. Thanks to each and every one of you for sharing! I'm super excited about our WL stay although since we'll be in Alaska 10 weeks after we go to Disney we didn't NEED the northwoods theme but oh well, lol! WL had a discount that we couldn't get at CR, so we'll take WL and enjoy every minute of it.

I'm looking forward to more photos!

Honestly we care very little about the room view, because we are going from dawn till dusk at the parks and are only there to rest in between. We have had crappy room views the last two trips, but accepted them because it didn't matter to us as long as we had a room. The real MAGIC to us is being at the WL lodge for us, and seeing it decorated for the holidays. We have not been traveling with little ones, which would make a difference.:thumbsup2
As far as the weather is concerned, we will take what comes, because it surely will be better than what we are leaving behind.:cool1:

Looks like we will be there at the same time! We are arriving for our first stay at WL on Jan. 6th and leaving the 13th. I'm in the same boat as swald. We've stayed at the Poly and were booked there but changed to WL to get the 4/3 deal. I'm loving the pictures of the WL, though! I'm very excited to get there!

I have been to all the sites available & seen tons of photos of Wilderness Lodge, inside & out, but I still can't get enough. :surfweb:
I am obsessed!! My son (age 12) & I will be finally staying at our dream resort this year from 11-30 to 12-7-08. We have always stayed at Pop Century, Caribbean Beach, or the All Star Music/Movies Resort. I have always DREAMED of staying at the Wilderness Lodge & when my dad passed away a few years ago (only 56 years of age), I figured that life is way too short & I have decided to "splurge" this year & go for it. This is not easy for a single mom on a budget, but I know this is probably the most beautiful resort during Christmas time, my favorite time of the year!:santa: I have looked at all the photos on the All Ears Net, the photos on the threads on the DIS boards, but I just can't get enough, so I thought I would start a thread for just Wilderness Lodge Photos- all of the resort. I want room photos, bathroom photos, refrigerator photos, shower photos, pool photos, Whispering Canyon photos, etc......
We don't have to discuss best room requests, check in, or anything like that, JUST BRING ON THE PHOTOS !!!!!! Thank you to anyone that posts photos to feed my obsession. :santa: :santa: :santa:

Well, my anticipation is about to become a REALITY!!!!!! The excitement building up to 11/30/08 at 5:00AM has been soooo much fun, basically in part to my fellow addicts & Dis buddy, DisneyNutz. When HUGE DEAL, stay 4 get 3 free, came out we jumped on the phone and got reservations for the WL for my Birthday. We are staying for 10 glorious nights at WL with a court yard view. :woohoo:

This is my first WDW Resort stay (last one was Shades of Green) and we are sooooo excited. :yay:

We are addicted and keep looking for more Pics... popcorn::

I just bought a really great camera for the trip so I promise to add to this pile of treasures! pirate:

We had a wonderful trip:cool1: It will be a looooong process of getting the photos downloaded then uploaded to Photobucket! But I will be working on them. We had a one bedroom villa and the very best room assingment for us. it was overlooking the villas lobby on the 2nd floor very close to the elevators:yay: DW made sure I got pictures of the room for all the ladies wanting to see them. We had several towel figures in the room when we got there. I'll start posting the pictures as I get them uploaded. :thumbsup2

We had a one bedroom villa and the very best room assingment for us. it was overlooking the villas lobby on the 2nd floor very close to the elevators:yay: DW made sure I got pictures of the room for all the ladies wanting to see them. This was probably our favorite room feature for the entire trip. We have never done any laundry on any previous trips (who wants too :confused3) but the day we checked in to this room, they were calling for SEVERE storms starting around 2:00pm. We did the Segway tour at Epcot at 7:45am this morning. After the Segway Tour we visited a few attractions, but we were wanting to visit a particular shop in the back of World Showcase before the storms hit. We made it back there and the storms caught us back there at 1:00. We didn't take our rain ponchos, because of doing the tour and we didn't want to get a locker for just ponchos. The storms brought some 40mph winds. We decided that since it was supposed to be a long storm, we would just brave the rain and head for our rental car:rolleyes1. We got about half the way around the side of World showcase in a rain blowing sideways then came the small hail:headache: Even though we were already soaked to the last thread on our bodies, I know what hail and thunderstorms together can mean (they were warning of possible tornados popping up), so we ducked into Norway. That storm cell moved on quickly and we jumped back out into the rain to gut it out to the car. We saw a Large Palm Tree snapped off about four feet above the ground and it fell across one of the wrought iron fences onto the pathway around the lagoon. Upon arriving at our car, we may as well have swam across the lagoon at World Showcase as we wouldn't (couldn't) have gotten any wetter. So upon arriving back at our room we started the washer and put everything we had on in there (sneakers and all). Then put them all in the dryer:worship:

If you happen to find yourselves at the lodge one evening and know the fireworks times for the MK, look at my photos containing the fireworks and you will notice a balcony with lighted garland on the first floor behind the roof of the carport. If you go inside and find your way up to that balcony across from the entrance to Whispering Canyon, there are numerous chairs and tables where you can sit and enjoy the fireworks from there and no one else seems to go out there.:thumbsup2

I hope that the WL Resort lived up to your year of building excitement. Your photos are fine by the way. DW and I would also gladly move in there and take up residence. We just love the entire atmosphere of the resort. You did have a nice view on that side of the building. We had an awesome room overlooking the Villas Atrium and tree area.:cool1: We probably crossed paths somewhere along the way (we were there 11/29- 12/05). I was the 6'1" guy toting a camera on a tripod all over the grounds most of the time. DW and I both took several photos for families that were posing for shots when we would walk up (so they would have the entire family photo). I love just walking all around the resort. We are already planning next year's trip around the same time and taking our oldest grandson for his first trip.:thumbsup2

That Villa room is BEAUTIFUL !!!! I agree, when we got in on Sunday 11/30, we got there early just before the storm hit & we headed to the TRex cafe at Downtown Disney for lunch & shopped all day & enjoyed the hotel. We tracked down to the Fantasmic show after the rain/wind let up !!! We also will be heading back in Dec 2009. I am debating on 11/29/09 thru Dec 6/2009 or the 3rd week of Dec 12 thru Dec 19th. Pop Warner will be there in 2009
for the 2nd week of 12/06/09 thru 12/12/09. After they changed the Touring Plans calendar from 3 & 4's to 5's & 6's for the 3rd week, I still may try the 3rd week this year because I thought this year for the 1st week was the MOST crowded I have seen it in the past 6 years during December. DW and I did the Segway Tour the morning of the 29th. It was awesome and we really enjoyed riding them. That is when we made a big mistake, because we got caught in those 40 mph wind and hail and torrential rain. We were very thankful to get back to a room with a washer and dryer and jacuzzi tub. :worship: Without the dryer I don't believe those shoes would have dried the entire trip. We had others that we switched off wearing, but still glad to have options. I see where two POP Warner got kicked out again this year. :yay:

I just showed my son the armadillo shot, he loved it !!!!
I am glad those Pop Warner groups are being kicked out, they basically RUIN the 1st or 2nd weeks in December. Isn't their contract about to run out? I thought I had read that somewhere. That is why we are looking at the 1st or 3rd week for 2009, but since crowds were so much heavier this year, we are truly thinking about 12/12/09 thru 12/19/09 this year. Again at the Wilderness Lodge !!! I knew I would get spoiled staying there. We are used to paying those Pop Century rates, but the WL spoils you with all the extras. We at a late lunch at the Whispering Canyon on Weds & it was the BEST rotisierre chicken I have EVER eaten !!!!!! It tasted like it had been smoking on the grill for days & had a garlic flavor to it, I LOVED it !!!!! We are too small of a family for the "family style" skillet feature, but we each got individual plates & we loved that dinner !!!!

Have you guys decided on which week you think will be the lowest in attendance next year, the 1st or 3rd week? :santa: :santa: :santa:

My wife raves about that chicken the same way. I am more into the ribs. We did the Hoop De Doo the night of the 28th so I got my rib fix there. We haven't decided which week we will go yet, but some of our decision will be based on when my daughter can get off work. We were there the third week last year and to me it was way worse. I don't think there really is a slow time in December anymore. Gotta run, we are carrying the grandson to see some Christmas Lights.

Don't I know it!!! Our trip is 20 days from today :banana: and I know it will be here and gone before I know it!! At this time next month we'll have been home for 3 days already :(

She is correct, that is the BEST chicken in the Whispering Canyon Cafe, your photos are unbelieveable !!!!!!

I pulled my Touring Plans Calendar from 2007 for the month of December & the 3rd week last year was the busiest because Pop Warner was the first week last year.

This year 2008, the Pop Warner group was there the 2nd week & will also be there the 2nd week in 2009 (because of how Thanksgiving falls).

This year after the Touring plans revised their numbers on 12/11/08, the 3rd week ended up being pretty close to the 2nd week numbers in which we were there (probably due to the free dining promotion offered for the 3rd week this year). Before they offered the free dining for the 3rd week, the Touring plans #'s for the 3rd week had been all 3 & 4's. They are now 6, 4, & 5's & the date of 12/20/08 jumped from a 4 to a 8 when the Touring plans revised their numbers on 12/11/08 (I printed all the #'s to compare from prior years because my son & I TRULY hate large crowds).

I just though this year was much worse than last year as far as crowds go, but we had an excellent retreat from the crowds at the Wilderness Lodge !!:santa: :santa: :santa:

We experienced them the year we stayed at CSR:sad2: Not a good experience to say the least. I have seen people post that they aren't that bad. I say they can go that week then.:thumbsup2
